Christina Anstead is a whiz at finding great houses. The star of Christina on the Coast and Flip or Flop knew exactly what she and her husband, Ant, wanted when they were looking for a place in Newport Beach, CA, last year. “Single level, preferably farmhouse style, and I’ve always loved a black-and-white home,” she says. And that’s exactly what they got. It didn’t need a ton of work—just enough for them to put their stamp on the place, blending their different styles. “I’m bohemian, he’s more industrial,” says Christina. The result: a winning marriage of black and white and natural wood tones. Take a look!

Take a Tour of This Remodeled Home's Interior Design

Ashley | Authentic Design Studio

One of the best parts of any house tour is the interior design. After all, remodeled home tours are a great way to find architectural features, furniture, and decor that ultimately inspire you to redecorate your own home in a fun, new style. Check out this Sandy, Utah home tour for interior design you won’t see anywhere else.

New entryway

A lot has changed in this home, and I wanted to point out a couple of items that we really hit hard on. We no longer have a door here. This goes into an office space, and it originally had two entrances, which wasn't necessary, so we thought closing this off would be the perfect solution to making it feel more like an entryway.

New sconces

We also wanted to give them some beautiful sconces so that it kind of added that extra element and provided some additional ambient lighting. It is going to be beautiful with the console table and the more abstract mirror that they have coming to complement those.

New flooring

Also, our flooring is now the same throughout the home. We had several different flooring transitions before, like hexagon tile throughout the entryway.

Custom black metal baluster

We even got rid of the original '70s wooden baluster and replaced it with this custom black metal one. I wanted to kind of soften everything up, so that was the purpose of bringing in these arch balusters as you see here. Together, everything just feels a little bit softened.

There's a little hint of contrast with the carpet, wood, and black tones. It all merges beautifully together.

Another thing that has changed is that it feels like an open space that pulls you inward as you come in from the front door. There used to be about three feet of drywall framing each side of this entryway, so we've eliminated that, which has opened up the space and highlighted some awesome features that this home originally had.

Bar area

We've relocated her bar area. It used to be centered on this wall and felt very ‘70s, so what we wanted to do was relocate it to a place that feels like this perfect little nook area that you can come to and not have to worry about your furniture placement or getting in the way of anything else. This is the perfect home for that.

Leathered quartzite countertop

We wanted it to feel cohesive with the kitchen because it's in that same general area, so we reused this amazing leathered quartzite countertop, which you'll see in the kitchen in a bit. Then, we brought in the wood stain element that is also in the kitchen and these beautiful brass gallery rails.

We wanted to hit it hard by making this space feel cohesive with everything else but have some more of those organic elements our client loves at the same time.

Natural wood trim

Heading over here, you can see the impact that removing these walls has made. It's so much lighter and airy, and you'll notice that the windows stayed the same. I didn't want to paint the wood trim or the wooden beam because I wanted to keep some of those natural pieces to ground the space but also give it some contrast.

New dining room

Right over here is the new dining room, and I am so happy with how this came together.

Dining room before the remodel

Originally, we had the window seat with grid lines on the window, so we eliminated that to let in more light.

Dining room table

We also reused the dining room table that was there, and the previous window seat sat pretty low, so we were able to give that some height. Now it's at the perfect measurement for the dining room table that we wanted to reuse. We've added millwork detail at the bottom of the bench and even centered the lights.

New light fixture centered with the table and window

In the original dining room layout, the light fixture was not centered with the window whatsoever.

Simple artwork on the walls

I wanted to keep a light, organic, fresh, and clean feeling in here, so we did some simple artwork on the walls and brought in a pop of color in the little nook area where the window seat is.

Remodeled kitchen

Just over here is the kitchen. It went through one of the biggest transformations. In the kitchen area previously, the island was much smaller and it was rotated in direction.

Remodeled kitchen and open-plan area

We also eliminated some of the soffits so that we could take the cabinets from the floor to the ceiling.

Matching countertop

A couple of other things that I want to mention are the materials that we chose. This is the same countertop that you see in the bar area.

Leather quartzite countertops in the kitchen

It's a leather quartzite, and it has all of this texture that you can actually feel. It also gives it a little bit more of a matte finish, which I love.

Remodeling the kitchen and changing the location of appliances

We really changed up the whole footprint of the kitchen while we were at it, moving the dishwasher and refrigerator placement.

Front apron exposed porcelain sink

We also replaced the previous sink and added a front apron exposed porcelain sink, which is so stunning. It no longer has a divider in it, and it makes an impact on the overall space, especially paired up against the darker cabinet color and the darker countertops.

Custom hood and a beautiful gas cooktop range

Another big change that this kitchen went through is that we eliminated the microwave as well as the stove and oven that was right below it, elevating it with a custom hood and a beautiful gas cooktop range.

Kitchen with double ovens and extra storage space

We were even able to give this kitchen some extra storage space and beautiful double ovens.

House tour interior design

I love working with clients in a collaboration-type form while not being held back by any restrictions. Having that mutual respect between your designer and yourself as the client is super important because it really helps transform your space from something that you wouldn't have even thought of into something magical.

Take a Tour of the South's Most Extraordinary Homes

These houses are filled with a lot more than just Southern charm.

Only in the South will you find a decorating code where comfort overshadows formality. Pedigreed antiques tell century-old stories of the many people and places they've lived—often within the same family. Hospitality and entertaining are always the top of mind for Southern decorators, with layered interiors and a lively host always ready to welcome you in.

Born in Atlanta, VERANDA strives to deliver a global perspective on the best of design, but we often return to our roots to understand how to make our homes feel just as warm and inviting as they are beautiful. Here, we take a look back at 17 extraordinary homes, from the Low Country to our current home base of Birmingham, Alabama, all of which exemplify the magic of Southern design.

The World Within (I): Dazzling Interiors of the Loop

Everyone does a boat tour when they visit Chicago. But as fun as that is, it’s a very tiny sliver of what Chicago has to offer architecturally! Let Inside Chicago Walking Tours guide you inside some of the most stunning interior spaces you’ll ever see — spaces you’d surely pass by without a second glance if you weren’t shown them by a seasoned, in-the-know tour guide.

Inside Chicago Walking Tours has scoured the Loop and carefully selected a number of buildings worth visiting for their interior architectural details, buildings that offer tourists the opportunity to enjoy over two centuries’ worth of hidden architectural wonders lying just behind closed doors.  On these walking tours, you’ll be amazed at the beauty beyond the façade that everyone else sees.  With Inside Chicago Walking Tours, you’ll get to know Chicago like you’ve never known it before!

Chicago’s Loop, full of offices, courtrooms, retail spaces, and business, is truly an overlooked treasure in terms of its gorgeous interior spaces.  There is so much beauty there, behind that well-known exterior:  it’s a beauty that is available to you to experience!  Let Inside Chicago Walking Tours show you this “second side” of the Second City!

NOTE: Sunday’s version of this route is slightly different, as a building we usually visit — The Rookery — is closed on Sundays. Instead, we visit a stunning interior that we ONLY visit on Sundays to make up for not seeing the Rookery. You’ll love it!

Tour This Timeless Coastal Home

Though I adore every last home I’ve ever featured in my House Envy vertical, every once in a while one comes across my desk that leaves my jaw aghast. And if a coastal home wasn’t originally in the cards for me, I’m just going to go ahead and manifest this exact situation right here.

Designed by one of my very favourite designers, Weeth Home , there isn’t a single detail in this expansive home that wasn’t thoughtfully designed. I mean, the attention to detail is unparalleled. From taking advantage of the incredible vantage points (hellooooo lakeside views) to the architectural details to the lighting placement and beyond… Every moment is perfection. It was hard to narrow down my favourite photos so I apologize (but not really, heh) for the abundance of interior inspiration I’m about to bombard you with.

Beyond modern decor, modern interiors are not only meant to look good but also be functional, according to Andrea West, interior designer and owner of Andrea West Design .

Between staples in modern interiors and making decorating your home to suit your needs, here are 30 modern interior design ideas to make your home look timeless and chic.

One of the benefits of modern design is its versatility that can adapt to your day-to-day, one example being modular seating. Modern homes and modular sofas and sectionals are a match made in heaven. With most designs, you can reconfigure them to your liking, whether you want spacious L-shaped seating or a deep and cozy day bed for movie nights.

Bathroom With Modern Lighting

When you're upgrading your modern house interiors, an easy way to do so is through lighting. Bathroom lighting, in particular, is a fantastic way to add a modern touch. In this bathroom, three black and white modern sconces are stacked between two angular mirrors.

Modern Bedroom With Wall Art

When you pair a bright and airy bedroom with modern design, the end result is a welcoming space. In this bedroom, black, white, gray, and neutral hues are used throughout in the bedding, oversized headboard, and modern lighting. But the most eye-catching piece is the singular piece of wall art that adds a burst of yellow to the modern bedroom.

Modern Kitchen With Grays and Clean Lines

Natural materials, clean lines, and cohesive color palettes are all staples in modern design, and you can find all three in this kitchen. From the shelves to the dining chairs, modern elements make the space look simple yet visually appealing.

America is renowned for representing a truly eclectic and diverse mix of design styles, from Californian cool to luxurious uptown elegance; and behind these ever-adapting movements of design, are some of the biggest and best interior designers in the world.

For the very latest in interior design and for some beautiful inspiration, explore our collection of our favorite American interior design talents.

America's interior design stars

Some of the freshest interiors come courtesy of creatives in the US, and we have curated a collection of designers who are all making an impact on the world of interior design – in America and beyond.

Apartment 48

Following an organic approach that is based on storytelling to build strong narratives for the interiors he designs, Rayman Boozer expresses his talent through bright colors, vibrant materials and strong patterns – the result translates visually into optimistic spaces that are a joy to be in.

Since founding Apartment 48 in 1994 in New York City, Rayman has honed his design voice and now helps clients to reveal their own through beautiful homes, offices and boutiques. Drawing inspiration from fashion, cinema and travel, he has an inimitable, effortless style that immediately catches the eye.

Becca Interiors

Owner and principal designer Becca Casey grew up in the English countryside, before eventually moving to the other side of the Atlantic and launching her design career in New York City.

Currently based in Connecticut where she leads her interior design firm, Becca Interiors , Becca brings her style – rooted in the UK – to homes across the US. Weaving vintage and custom designs with warm tonal finishes, she finds inspiration from many sources, including her travels back home to the UK and to other destinations.

‘I think my work is unique in that it blends British and American influences,’ says Becca. ‘Though we may have a rich focus on patina and traditional English silhouettes, we are nuanced in serene backdrops and often play with scale, similar to styles you would find on the West Coast of the US.'

Commune

Known for their work across architecture, interiors, and graphic and product design, Roman Alonso and Steven Johanknecht are the creative duo behind Los Angeles-based studio, Commune .

Collaborating with artists and artisans around the world, they chose a name that stands for community. While Roman was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and emigrated with his family to Miami where he studied film and art history, Steven grew up in New York and studied communication design, followed by painting and art history. Together they have designed the interiors of several Ace Hotels , including Kyoto, Chicago, Downtown LA and Palm Springs, in addition to boutiques, private homes and furniture.

Throughout the years and the projects, their creative spirit has become the epitome of California cool.

Jean Stoffer Design

Kitchen-centric interior design is Jean Stoffer’s trademark, but it’s not everything. ‘Although we work on new construction, we love old homes and maintaining their character while modernizing them for the way people live,’ she says.

A family affair, the studio welcomed Jean’s adult children John, Grace and Daniel in 2016. Since then, they have opened a brick-and-mortar store in Michigan, called Stoffer Home, followed by an online shop .

The launch of Stoffer Home Cabinetry crystallized Jean’s passion for British-inspired kitchens. With her TV show The Established Home and first book Establishing Home: Creating Space for a Beautiful Life with Family, Faith and Friends released last November, Jean never stops expressing her creativity.

Establishing Home: Creating Space for a Beautiful Life with Family, Faith and Friends by Jean Stoffer |  $20.30 at Amazon In Establishing Home, Jean tells her story of her life as a part-time receptionist to the founder of an award-winning home design company and star of the Magnolia Network’s show,  The Established Home . Along the way, she shares what she learned about design, business, parenting, and relationships.

Ken Fulk

‘I don’t consider myself a designer as much as a director, casting a team of brilliant artisans and creating experiences from beginning to end,’ says Ken Fulk , who has offices on both the West and East coasts (in San Francisco and New York).

‘Whether it’s a penthouse in London, a members’ club in Texas, or a yacht in the South Pacific, it’s always about making every moment matter – from the scent to the soundtrack to the wardrobe – and all the daily rituals that add up to a life well-lived.’

Currently working on an upcoming hospitality project located on Northern California’s best-kept secret destination, Ken is teaming up with veteran hotelier Clark Lyda to reimagine Mankas, an epicurean retreat at Point Reyes National Seashore, scheduled to debut in summer 2023. The duo also plans to transform New Orleans’ historic Soniat House and the Berkshires’ famed Blantyre estate.

McGrath II

Co-founded and led by Suzanne and Lauren McGrath , the NYC-based studio, McGrath II is known for infusing classic interior details into homes where past and present subtly intertwine through a holistic approach that makes every detail count.

Passionate about layering textiles to bring life and energy to a room, Lauren – who worked as a fashion news writer at Teen Vogue for years – enjoys sourcing vintage and bespoke artisanal pieces globally to shape playful atmospheres with Suzanne, a former style editor and television producer for Martha Stewart Living Television – and the recipient of five Daytime Emmy Awards.

The duo leaves no stone unturned in their quest for memorable interiors. ‘Quarterly trips to the UK and France are part of our work schedule to find antiques and lighting for our client’s interiors,’ they say.

Nicole Hollis

With offices in San Francisco, California, and projects in Hawaii, Mexico and Napa Valley – to name only a few locations – creative director and principal Nicole Hollis – who leads her team with her husband, CEO Lewis Heathcote – designs timeless residential and hospitality interiors where elegance and sophistication are always reflected, without forgetting the bold touches.

Constantly pulling inspiration from nature, fine art and fashion, Nicole Hollis weaves character into each project and collaborates with designers, craftspeople and artists to create custom pieces, with the ambition of ‘elevating the human spirit’ through the spaces conceived.

Roman and Williams

After designing sets for Hollywood films for a decade, principals Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer founded their multidisciplinary architecture and design studio, Roman and Williams in 2002, focusing on craftsmanship and history in all their projects – which range from NoMad London and the British Galleries at the Met to La Mercerie and their OVO furniture collection .

Fascinated by nature, geometries and historical archetypes, they create timeless spaces and objects in pursuit of elevating the everyday. In 2017, the duo opened Roman and Williams Guild with a curated selection of furniture, lighting and home accessories designed by them and created by artisans from around the world.

At the end of 2021, they launched Guild Gallery . ‘While the Guild celebrates a beauty that derives from function, the Gallery focuses purely on form. The Guild is all about an eclectic mix; the Gallery spotlights the object, artist and process,’ they say.

Romanek Design Studio

'We don’t have a stamp look,’ says Brigette Romanek . ‘We work to listen to our clients about what’s important to them and make that stunning.’ Case in point: Gwyneth Paltrow’s estate in Montecito .

Brigette lived in different parts of the world before landing in Los Angeles, where she leads her studio filled with team members who – as she puts it – need to ‘think differently’. ‘I call my style “liveable luxe” – beautiful interiors that aren’t precious,’ she says. ‘Good design has a function and that’s to serve you and make sure you are comfortable. I make spaces that are meant to be enjoyed and not just looked at or used occasionally. They are soulful rooms.’

Sean Anderson Design

‘I’d say my layering is what I’m best known for,’ says Sean Anderson , a Mississippi native based in Memphis, Tennessee. ‘I love juxtaposing colors and textures that live within that classic, organic palette and finding new ways of presenting them.’

With his small team, Sean likes to mix high and low, pushing the boundaries a bit in either direction. ‘That’s part of what thrills me about this work – the tension created by colligating something light with something dark, or something rough with something fine,’ he says. ‘There’s a balance I seek out and when I feel the work is balanced, that means it’s complete.’

Sheila Bridges

Creative visionary and design tastemaker, Sheila Bridges , has called Harlem her home for more than 25 years. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she lives and works in this neighborhood of New York City where she has created two of her most renowned projects: the 8,300-square-foot offices of former US president Bill Clinton and her custom-designed Harlem Toile de Jouy wallpaper , which is part of the permanent collections of several museums – including the Brooklyn Museum, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.

Colors and multiple layers characterize Sheila’s sensitive work. With rich textures and visual surprises in every nook, her interiors, which feature the best of craftsmanship, are full of character.

Studio Shamshiri, Dewey Nicks

Approaching design as a holistic process driven by human experience, Los Angeles-based Studio Shamshiri was founded by Pamela Shamshiri and her brother Ramin in 2016.

‘The greatest compliment is when people think we didn’t do a thing, that this was all existing from the time the house was created,’ says Pamela, who has a background in production, art direction and set design. ‘We want our projects to feel like they were there forever with craftsmanship and integrity.’

Working on residential, commercial and hospitality spaces, the studio is also well-known for restoring homes originally designed by iconic architects. ‘We draw inspiration from the past to create environments uniquely attuned to the rhythms of contemporary life, spaces that nourish the mind, body and soul,’ says Pamela. ‘Our hope is the unexpected, homes that don’t remind you of anything you have seen before and might inspire a new vernacular in design.’

This renovated flat in a converted Victorian mansion is a haven of pattern and colour

Step inside this once derelict Nottingham home...

a blue panel with a bird picture on it

Like many people, make-up artist and interior designer Jodie Hazlewood started an Instagram account, @thehouseupstairs , to record the progress of a home renovation when she and her husband, commercial photographer Olly Hunter, purchased a derelict two-storey flat in March 2020. But unlike most, Jodie stuck at it – both the refurb and regular updates – and found a niche that saw the number of her followers soar and prompted a career pivot. Now, with more than 100,000 followers and her own collection of bespoke furniture being sold to a legion of fans up and down the country, the hard work and frequent posting is paying off.

homeowner holding her dog

‘When we found our home, I don’t think a single other person was interested in buying it as it had no working plumbing or heating, not to mention terrible 1960s windows and damp everywhere,’ recalls Jodie. ‘But we saw great proportions, as well as the potential to knock through into a very large loft space, which we’ve since done.’ The couple are the first to admit that they outsourced to professionals rather than tackle it themselves – as most of the initial jobs were so big they wouldn’t have known where to start – but the process provided a steep learning curve for them both. ‘Our confidence in DIY is slowly growing,’ says Jodie, ‘so we definitely do more things ourselves now.’

a hallway with a table and chairs

But where to begin with such an enormous undertaking? Pragmatism, it seems, was key. ‘The most important question we asked ourselves at the start of the renovation was: “How do we want to live?”’ remembers Jodie. ‘Our answer was that we wanted to entertain with ease, to be able to relax and be comfortable, and to live in an open-plan way but with private areas tucked away.’ And more than three years later, it’s clear that this is exactly what they have achieved, with fluid spaces that flow seamlessly from one to the other and feel casual but convivial.

a living room with a blue table and chairs

First task on the list was ripping out and replacing the electrics and plumbing, followed shortly after by removing those unfashionable windows, many of which were missing lintels so major structural work was required. This led to yet more structural work, such as knocking through the separate sitting and dining rooms to create the open-plan living/kitchen space they wanted, then replacing the main staircase and extending into an unused loft void to create their bedroom and adjoining dressing room.

a living room with a couch and a wall of pictures

Next, they turned the original kitchen into a guest bedroom with ensuite, upgraded all the bathrooms, changed a bedroom into a snug complete with freestanding bath and converted a box room into a second guest bedroom by reinstating the vaulted ceiling, adding a new door and window, and replacing rotten walls. Last, but certainly not least, was replacing the front door. It was a major reconfiguration by anyone's standards.

a bed and a wallpapered ceiling

As with any refurb, there were some unforeseen costs, as well as some welcome surprises, mostly in the form of much sought-after period features – gold dust for those in the throes of converting a Victorian house. ‘We discovered all the original ceilings – hidden behind suspended ceilings that were installed when the mansion was converted into three flats in the 1960s – as well as beautiful floorboards, stained glass and chimneys,’ says Jodie. ‘We’ve really tried to put personality back into the property by reinstating its history.’

a kitchen with an island and high stools

With the hardest part done, Jodie and Olly were free to channel their creativity – and remaining budget – into furnishing their blank canvas. Jodie explains: ‘We wanted the interiors to look lived in – as though they had always been there – with nothing too perfect or overly staged.’ Seeking inspiration from travels, social media, hotels, stately homes and books, they set about adding to their already eclectic collection of furniture, accessories and textiles, sourcing vintage pieces and reclaimed treasures via Instagram as well as from the occasional auction.

a blue bookcase with books and a table

‘We also love flea markets, eBay and Facebook Marketplace,’ adds Jodie. In fact, the reclaimed kitchen, marble fireplace and reupholstered sofas are just a handful of spoils from a pick and mix of fruitful resources. But building up their scheme didn’t stop there. Colour and pattern, too, have been layered to add further character. ‘I love to throw everything together, but always with a sense of balance,’ continues Jodie. ‘So I try to counter any vibrant elements with calmer touches.’

a bed with a canopy

Throughout, she and Olly have created an aesthetic that feels effortless, well-travelled and absolutely timeless, somehow managing to evoke both British charm and Mediterranean spirit: ‘Once you open the door, we wanted it to feel like you could be anywhere, a bit like a magical escape.’

But not everything has been completed. Next on the couple’s hit list is the dressing room – ‘a bit of a dumping ground’ – and the garden . And then... who knows? ‘A life abroad might be in our future,’ says Jodie, ‘and I think we’ve got another big project in us.’ Watch this space, because if it’s anything like this joyful maisonette, it’s going to be wonderful.

Homeowners of this 5-room HDB BTO in Tampines, quality manager Marcus Loh and his accountant wife, Jamie Koh wanted their new home to be light-filled, spacious and possess a clean, minimalist aesthetic. The result was a beautiful home with curved interior design .

Who Lives Here: A couple in their 30s, their three-year-old son and a baby on the way Home: A five-room BTO flat in Tampines Size: 1,216 sq ft

Living room in a minimalist 5-room HDB BTO in Tampines.

Open concept kitchen

As the couple hosts guests from time to time, but do not usually do any heavy cooking, they feel that an open-concept kitchen with a kitchen island counter and built-in storage would be ideal for their needs. With a growing family, they chose to retain most of the flat’s original layout comprising three bedrooms and provision for a study instead of hacking walls to combine rooms.

The couple engaged the interior designers at By: Dan & Co based on the recommendation of Marcus’ childhood friend, whose home was also designed by the home-grown firm. The door and frame of the DB box beside the main entrance were replaced with a built-in cabinet that cohesively blends in with the rest of the cabinetry at the entrance foyer.

To the left of the entrance foyer, the household shelter door is concealed within a feature wall. This turns the corner and continues into a row of built-in cabinets with curved edges that are cladded with the same laminate for consistency.

Further along, the provisional space for a study has been enclosed to create a workspace and recreation room for the homeowner Marcus as part of his renovation wish list.

The absence of a feature wall in the living was a deliberate move. To conceal the television cables, Daniel introduced a partition wall with a rounded corner detail. This curved form helps to soften the design, as well as make the home more child-friendly.

Curved carpentry

It is also applied to other parts of the home, such as the built-in carpentry around the entrance foyer, the kitchen island and even the master bathroom.

“Although the couple does not do much heavy cooking, we made it a point to design a very functional kitchen with ample storage and room to manoeuvre,” Daniel points out.

A cream, curved kitchen island runs along the kitchen in a minimalist 5-room HDB BTO in Tampines.

Kitchen island

The star of the kitchen is without a doubt the kitchen island counter. “It is fabricated from a semi-circular piece of solid wood with a quartz countertop and it is the talk and marvel of many visitors to our home,” shares Marcus.

The dining room is next to the kitchen island and the dining table is arranged perpendicular to the counter, which makes for an efficient and practical layout.

The door frames for the bedrooms, which came with the flat despite the couple having opted out, were something that they wanted redone.

A full-height wardrobe serves as a privacy partition in the master bedroom of a minimalist 5-room HDB BTO in Tampines.

Concealed aircon trunking

Homeowner Jamie says: “We intended to keep the corridor clean and free of any air-conditioner piping. With the headroom limitation and a four-inch pipe trunking beneath the air-conditioner unit, the original bedroom door frames would have been a nasty clash.”

“As a result, the height of the doorways to the bedrooms would be lower, but this is a trade-off that the couple was more than prepared to accept as it allows them to maintain a clean look,” interior designer Daniel comments.

A walk-in wardrobe comprising a pair of His and Hers closets in the master bedroom not only provide sufficient storage for the couples outfits, but it also serves to separate the sleeping and changing areas in order to preserve the restful quality of the former. The attached master bathroom has a frosted glass door that allows more diffused light into the adjacent walk-in wardrobe.

White and teal two-tone coloured walls for the son's bedroom.

Son’s bedroom

The couple wanted a fun and age-appropriate room for their son. To achieve this, interior designer Daniel used two colour tones for the walls. The decision to go with loose furniture rather than built-in cabinets was in anticipation of the son out-growing the furniture in a few years’ time. Loose furniture gives homeowners Marcus and Jamie the option of redecorating the room and replacing the furniture more easily.

$69,000 Renovation cost

The renovation cost around $69,000 excluding furniture and furnishings. It took about 10 weeks and the family moved into their new home in July 2023. Marcus and Jamie consider the renovation close to a perfect 10.

“It encapsulates what we were seeking for in our new home and it reflects experiences from our growing-up years, as well as what we desire,” the couple concludes.

For interior designer Daniel, the project is about translating the clients’ inputs about what they want in their home in order to create a home that is unique to their lifestyle.

“Every home has a story to tell. Beyond aesthetics, good design should be functional and complement the lifestyle of the owners, not the other way round,” he emphasises.
