Tata Safari is one of the most popular SUVs on sale in India. Here, we tell you everything about the Tata Safari to help you choose the right model for you.

Tata Safari 2022: The Tata Safari has been one of the best-selling SUVs in the Indian market since the early 2000s. So when the Indian automakers announced a new-gen version of Safari last year, it was received with great response from the buyers. It was not just another facelift but a complete revamp of Safari. The reworked exteriors marked the new design language for the SUV inspired by Tata’s other SUV, Harrier. The new Safari is loaded with all modern safety and convenience features along with a premium finish for the interiors.

The new-gen Safari is offered with a single 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine unit delivering an output of 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. So, buyers at least don’t have to stress about selecting the engine unit but making a call between the seven variants of Safari is not going to be easy.

First up is the base model, Safari XE which comes with a base price of Rs 15.02 lakh (ex-showroom). And with that, the buyers get features like, tilt & telescopic adjust steering, projector headlamps, daytime running lamps, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, hill control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control and 16-inch steel wheels. The buyers also get AC went for the second and third-row passengers, with reclining second-row seats and 50:50 split in the third row.

With a price of nearly Rs 1.5 lakh over the XE variant, the Safari XM offers 7-inch touchscreen infotainment and a 6 speaker audio system with steering mounted control. The vehicle gets follow me home headlamps, fog lamps, rear parking sensor display, and Driver seat height adjust. The Safari XM comes with three driving modes, Eco, City & Sport in addition to all features of the base model.

Add another Rs 1.5 lakh and you get the XT variant of Safari loaded with features like Auto climate control, 8 speaker audio system, LED DRLs, auto headlamps and wipers, power-folding wing mirrors, rear centre armrest, keyless entry, ambient lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, tyre pressure monitoring system, rearview camera, cruise control, android Auto & Apple CarPlay Connectivity and iRA Connected Car Technology.

With Rs 80,000 premium over Safari XT price, you get a panoramic sunroom in the Safari XT +. For a little more than Rs 90,000 over the price of the XT + variant, you are offered Safari XZ with options like Oyster White leatherette upholstery, Xenon HID projector headlamps, fog lamps with cornering function, terrain Response Modes – Normal, Rough & Wet, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 9 speaker JBL audio system (4 Speakers + 4 Tweeters & Subwoofer) with Amplifier, part-digital instrument cluster with 7.0-inch TFT display, 6 Airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, 6 way electrically adjustable driver seat, electronic parking brake with Auto Hold and Auto-dimming rearview mirror.

With the XZ+ variant, you get all features of Safari XZ+ with a panoramic sunroof and middle row captain seats for almost Rs 1 lakh premium.

There are also other Dark and Adventures of Safari sporting a few cosmetic upgrades in the interiors and exteriors.

Starting with Rs 15.02 lakh for the base model, Tata Safari prices go up to Rs 23.32 lakh for the XZA Plus Gold automatic variant.

2000 km in 4 days with my new Tata Safari facelift: 10 Pros & 7 Cons

car

Had the Nexon EV Prime previously and currently own the Nexon EV Max, alongside the new Safari.

BHPian shashankw839 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I am also a fellow Safari Accomplished Plus owner. I have recently purchased the car. I have been a strong EV enthusiast but there are no options in 7-seater cars in EVs so decided to pick up the Safari. I have owned the Nexon EV Prime before but my experience was not good and also now have the Nexon EV Max which has certain niggles too and I am waiting for a proper resolution still. I have owned tons of cars from different brands so far but love to support our brands and want them to succeed. However, I must sadly say that the customer service approach from our local brands particularly Tata and Mahindra is not up to the mark for sure. I’ll list some pros and cons I found with my car after driving it for 2000 in 4 days recently.

Tata Safari facelift Pros:

  • The car is solidly built. The LR platform outshines on the highways. The car eats up the miles in comfort.
  • Seating comfort for 7 passengers is quite good. I have the 7 seater configuration and 6 adults and 1 kid could travel without feeling cramped for space. The last row is usable by adults too.
  • Cameras are crisp and clear in the daytime and are okay in the nighttime. The parking guidelines are accurate. The 360-degree camera and front and back sensors are a boon to handle the bulky size of the vehicle.
  • The JBL music system is simply awesome. It’s too good for the car at this price point. The infotainment screen is crisp and Android Auto and Apple carplay being wireless is a very good feature.
  • The car has ample charging sockets for all occupants. The utility part of the car is neatly done.
  • Seats are super comfortable for all occupants. Just the right amount of cushion and ergonomics for everyone. Seat ventilation is a bonus.
  • I am simply blown away by the suspension setup on the car. I have used luxury cars with 2x and 3x the price of the safari and they would also unsettle on some bad road conditions when driven with full load. However, the safari is rock solid on bad roads. The suspension setup is very impressive.
  • The electronic power steering is light to drive and does not cause any fatigue. The driving position is perfect for my liking and I could do almost 500+ kms a day on an avg for 4 days straight without getting tired.
  • The engine is very well refined and noise levels are well isolated from the cabin. A commendable job has been done to make the cabin experience smooth on the new version.
  • The engine is very efficient as well. At lower three-digit speeds constantly, I could extract 13-15 km/l mileage with a full load which is very good.

Tata Safari facelift Cons:

  • The legacy of cons remains and they need to be sorted by Tata ASAP for the product to succeed. The first and foremost is the fit and finish of the car. There are uneven panel gaps all over the cabin and on the exterior.
  • The paint finish is not up to the mark at all places on the car. The fitment of plastic parts in the interior is not correct in many parts of the car. This causes some rattles when travelling.
  • The biggest hit-and-miss is Adas functions. In 4 days of travel, I got ADAS sensor malfunction warnings around 6 times. Adaptive cruise control would become unavailable when the sensor used to go mad. Lane keep assist is not active and the lane departure warning is very late in responding. Collision assist also does not work well and is very late to warn even when sensitivity is set to the highest level. Overall ADAS calibration is not up to the mark. The only thing that I found working correctly was the rear cross-traffic alert.
  • The OE tyres provided with the cars are hard. The lower trims get Bridgestones while the top trim gets MRFs with an odd size. The size 245/55 R19 is very odd and if you end up damaging one of your tyres, it is very hard to find a tyre of this size easily. I have upgraded my tyres to Pirelli Pzeros and they have made a huge difference to the car and its handling.
  • There are hardly any accessories available for the car with TML. The floor mats they provided do not match and they say it might take some months for the mats to arrive. So the car gets dirty easily.
  • As I said the cons continue and so another big issue is the lack of knowledge of the model with TML technicians. I took the car 2 times to the dealership so far and both times did not have a great experience. First, it was for the number plate fitment and the person there started fitting the plate right in front of the Adas sensor and was not even aware that he was going to block the radar. Fortunately, another technician was available who could understand what I was saying and then repositioned the plate. The second time the fog light was making noise and was loose and the technician mentioned that the full bumper needed to be taken down while it was just a matter of removing one cover from the wheel arch.
  • The headlights on the car are not good at all for highway conditions. The throw is not bright enough and neither it is long enough. The spread is ok but the throw is hardly 150-200 feet even on a high beam. Tata needs to provide better headlights for sure for safety reasons. I had to drive very cautiously at night due to the bad headlights.

Overall, it is a great car and Tata has come a long way with its improvements, however, they need to solve the niggles and basic customer service issues asap to give the owners a better experience. The issues with ADAS need to be solved on priority because they are related to safety.

Engine specifications, key features, specifications.

People who are aware of the name Tata Safari, now hold a different silhouette of this phenomenal beast in their eyes. Tata Safari has always remained to be the mightiest rivalry of its segment in terms of its design language, overall luxury appeal, and comfort. However, in this modern era of rapid technological advancements in the automobile sector where competition is getting highly tough for the car manufacturers. Tata has announced the revival of its most capable flagship SUV, Tata Safari in a modern avatar. Even the new tata safari 2022 mileage figures and handling dynamics are far much better than the previous generation Tata Safari Storme , all thanks to Jaguar-inspired aerodynamics. The SUV feels very confident at high speeds or corners due to those bold and streamlined aerodynamics, which efficiently avoids the vehicle from body roll and trembling to an extent. Now if we talk about the new tata safari images from the front, one might get mistaken between the Safari and Tata Harrier . But once you’ll notice it closely, you can easily differentiate it from the Harrier. As the new tata safari 2022 colors are way different from the ones offered on the Harrier. Apart From that, the front facia carries a delightful presence of added chrome touches which can be noticed further in the entire design language. The front grille of the safari comes finished in a brushed silver theme with Tata’s new tri-arrow motifs that are highlighted in chrome. Coming to the split-headlamps provides a great stance of luxury with chrome underpinnings. Overall you’ll notice the same front that you see on the Harrier except the new chrome treatment.

Walking towards its side profile is where one can notice apparent changes made to the all-new Tata Safari 2022. However, the bold design and hefty haunches of the new Safari remain largely the same as that of its sibling Tata Harrier till the C-pillar. Also, the wheelbase, as well as the width of the car, remains to be the same as the Harrier. Although, the new-gen tata safari gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, which carry over the same diamond-cut design as seen on the Harrier’s 17-inch ones. The new Tata Safari 2022 sports a higher roofline as the sloping roofline of the Harrier has now been replaced by a stepped roof with engraved Safari name on the chrome-lined roof rails to make it sort of identical to its predecessors. As we are very much aware of the fact that the new-generation Safari is based on the 5-seat Harrier. Mr. Pratap Bose, Head of Design at Tata Motors, respectfully deserves a standing ovation for beautifully incorporating the third-row of passenger seats into the Safari with the 60mm longer rear overhang and full-size rear quarter glass. The roof rails are fully functional on the non-panoramic sunroof variants of the Safari which can further be equipped with carriers while holding a weight capacity of 130kgs. However, the panoramic sunroof-equipped variants are forged with a rising roof panel to incorporate the glass. Due to which the panoramic sunroof variants of the Safari just get a set of non-functional roof rails for the stepped effect.

The rear end of the vehicle showcases a more upright tailgate. As the silver lines drop down into rear quarter glass from the roof rails, it reduces the heft around the thick D-pillar. Which makes the Safari look spectacular from the rear profile. The part-LED taillamps are placed phenomenally at the rear, connected by a widened gloss-black panel. Unfortunately, The taillamps of the Safari look identical to the Harrier but aren’t actually. The auxiliary fog lamps placement looks impressive as well while the rear bumper comes finished in black and silver treatment. Disappointingly, the new Tata Safari offers dual exhaust tips, but none of them are functional as the exhaust of the vehicle is placed right under the rear bumper.

Tata has also introduced a blacked-out chrome variant of the new-gen Safari just like the Harrier’s Dark Edition, named as Tata Safari adventure persona. This variant has nothing to do with more features or a more powerful engine. Things which make a difference are all cosmetic. The difference between the Tata Safari adventure persona and normal Safari is the fully blacked-out chrome and silver treatment which we get to see on the other variants of the safari. Overall, the new tata safari images have a much better design than that of the Harrier, which looks commanding on road.

The new-generation Tata Safari 2022 interior images aren’t something new to see, as there are not any significant changes made to the Harrier’s cabin except the new off-white interior theme and the addition of third-row passenger seats. However, things inside the new Tata Safari have improved to an extent than the Harrier. The dashboard design as well as the entire cabin, reflects Jaguar Land Rover’s DNA, as the new Safari SUV itself is derived from the Jaguar Land Rover’s OMEGArc monocoque platform just like the Harrier. If we go by the metrics, Safari’s built quality looks tough both from the inside as well outside. The overall fit and finish inside the cabin feel a step forward from the Harrier, the high-quality materials used are quite soft to touch as well. The panel fittings and upholstery stitches have also been improved to a great extent, which was a huge disappointment on the Harrier. However, some ergonomic issues still persist inside the cabin including the small as well as nonadjustable front row armrest and the uneven placement of the dashboard’s center console which is a compromise to the comfort of driver and co-passenger knees and arms while driving such a big SUV.

New Tata Safari 2022 colors on the inside offer delightful cabin appeal, and its Oyster White interior theme which comes with the top-spec Safari, brings in an irresistible airy charm to its interiors. Although, it gets quite typical to maintain the charm of the cabin as the light-themed leatherette upholstery isn’t the easiest to keep clean in the Indian climate conditions. The dashboard looks smarter than the Harrier with the introduction of ambient lighting and a supporting dark ash wood dash trim which is present in the oak wood finish on its donor sibling. The 2022 Safari gets the same 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s present on the Harrier and is a wide-screen variant of what we’ve seen in the Nexon and Altroz . The infotainment system does feel slightly responsive and comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play support. The 8.8-inch touchscreen UI even needs an update, as it gets very confusing for people sitting in the car to toggle between tiny icons on the screen to figure out if they have been enabled or not. Apart from that, the new Safari even gets wireless phone charging and numerous USB charging ports all across the cabin to charges your smart devices across the aisle.

Apart from all that, you’ll even get to see iRA connected car tech and TPMS that’s available with the Tata Altroz iTurbo . This feature comes into play with amazing remote accessibility options such as basic geofencing security features, enabling or disabling the horn and lights remotely. Although, it does miss out on numerous remote accessibility features like engine start and stop or enabling climate control which is present in its other market rivals such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Toureg, and many other non-competing sedans and hatchback cars. Moreover, we didn’t find anything much to complain about the tata safari 2022 interior images when we got to experience the new tata safari in real.

The 2022 Safari nails out its market rivals apart in terms of safety, comfort, and overall cabin appeal, as the car comes featured with top-notch cabin and safety equipment which includes the addition of an electronic parking brake, 6 airbags, hill-descent control, electronic stability control, ventilated seats for front & second-row passengers, a terrain response system, and an electronically adjustable driver’s seat. However, the electronic parking brake could have been offered with a small LED indicator to let the driver know whether it’s engaged or not. Though, you’ll get to see the same Aircraft-inspired handbrake design on the low-end variants of the new tata safari images. The rest of all, the JBL-branded music system remains untouched while offering great pleasure to the listener’s ears with decent bass. And if we talk about the panoramic sunroof, it is a brilliant feature that has never been seen on a safari. The panoramic sunroof significantly increases the airy appeal inside the cabin with easy-to-use individual rocker controls for shade, vent, and opening.

Moving towards the second row is where you’ll get to see a 3-seat bench as standard on the 7-seater variants of the new tata safari. However, on the top-of-the-line variants of the safari, tata gives you an option to opt for dual-captain seats with armrests, as a 6-seat configuration. No matter if you go with the 7-seat or 6-seat configuration, the SUV offers great under-thigh support and cushioning to the second-row passengers with more than enough legroom as well as headroom on both of the seat configurations. The second-row passengers can even adjust the position of the front passenger seat with the new “Boss Mode” for more legroom. As we’re are all well aware of the fact that tata safari is a 3-row SUV, passengers can now easily access the third row from the aisle between the two captain seats or fold and side-access the bench seat configuration to 60:40 split. Access to the third row comes in with impressive comfort and space to easily accommodate two average-sized adults. However, this comfort can be slightly painful for adults on long trips as the third row suits best for kids as there isn’t much under-thigh support offered on the third-row passenger seats. Apart from that, you’ll even get to see two cup holders, two USB ports, dedicated AC controls with air vents, and decent storage spaces. If we talk about the boot space of the new safari, it isn’t that great if the third row remains unfolded(73l), but once you fold them away the boot space significantly increases up to 447 liters.

Overall, there’s nothing much to complain about storage on the safari as there are many practical storage spaces offered inside the cabin, and you can also increase the boot space up to whopping 997 liters while flat-folding the second and third-row passenger seats on the 7-seater variants of the 2022 safari.

Disappointingly, the all-new Tata Safari comes equipped with the same Fiat Sourced 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine (Kryotec 170) which produces the same amount of power that we get to experience on the Harrier. The transmissions options remain to be the same Hyundai Sourced automatic torque converter and 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the 170hp motor fits quite well on tata safari 2022 mileage figures, as the tata safari 2022 mileage remains somewhat equivalent to the Harrier even after 75kgs of added weight. If we talk about the power delivery and performance from the 2.0-litre Kryotec 170 diesel engine, well the new Safari pulls exceptionally well and quick enough without many vibrations felt inside the cabin. The motor offers a huge amount of refinement from the engine and works remarkably well while being tuned with the Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission offers slick gearshifts and is very responsive to operate as well. Though, with the 6-speed manual, power delivery comes with some effort from a heavy to operate clutch setup that feels sluggish to change gears. Also, you’ll notice the diesel growl from the engine at times when you start the vehicle, but things get smooth quite quickly once the engine warms up.

The new Safari even offers three drive modes, Eco, City, and Sport, that further enhance the overall driving experience to the front-wheel-drive safari. However, if you want to access the full potential from the engine, it works best in sport mode where you can access the highest 350 Nm torque output. Whereas the power remains limited to 320 Nm in the default City mode and 280 Nm in Eco which dulls the drivetrain’s responsiveness to an extent. The rest of all, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine provides more than enough power to the Safari without any hassle between 2000 to 3000rpm but does get vocal when someone pushes it above 3500rpm.

Overall the powertrain works amazingly on the front-wheel-drive Safari, but one thing which distracts the buyers looking for an SUV in this segment is the lack of a 4×4 or an all-wheel-drive powertrain option. Though Tata has promised to introduce an all-wheel-drive variant on the Safari if there’s sufficient demand.

Despite sharing the same monocoque chassis construction and powertrain, the new tata safari expresses a way more different handling characteristics than the Harrier. The SUV feels much more confident to drive on highways as well as off-road when we compare it with the Harrier’s ride quality. Though the ride and handling balance remains quite similar between both the siblings. There’s a wide band of power and torque available from the Fiat Sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that offers great pull to the 1,800+ kg SUV from 1500rpm itself. The motor sounds very refine and effortless to drive even at higher rpm’s while being mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. We personally liked the way Safari drives while being mated to Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, as the gearshifts were highly firm than that of the manual ones. Also, the automatic variants provide you an option to manually shift via gear lever, but this comes at a price of lesser tata safari 2022 mileage figures.

Apart from that, you’ll still notice some body roll while leaping it into corners, however, the re-tuned suspension setup takes care of it quite responsively. Tata has entirely retweaked the suspension setup borrowed from the Harrier, as the new Safari soaks in bumps and uneven roads very efficiently without compromising passenger comfort. Tata has tuned the Safari’s suspension at slightly softer parameters to deal with 75kgs of added weight and enhance low-speed bump absorption. All thanks to this softly tuned suspension setup, the new 2022 tata safari feels exceptionally light and rigid to handle on rough terrains. If we compare the new 2022 Safari with its previous generation, the Land Rover’s monocoque underpinnings are an excellent replacement to the old body-on-frame chassis. The new bold aerodynamics assists the Safari in sharp acceleration and maneuverability at high speeds. The SUV runs flat and confident at any terrain you dive the car in with a full load of passengers, which reveals the toughness of its JLR(Jaguar Land Rover) DNA.

Tata is now offering the Safari with disk brakes on all four tires replacing the rear drum brake setup of the Harrier with discs. With the help of disc brakes on all four tires, Safari sheds speed more effectively compared to the Harrier. Also, the new Safari offers the best-in-class bite point with a disc wiping feature as standard that resultantly brings such a heavy SUV to a stop within a few seconds. However, Tata could have improved the long-travel brake pedal which affects the bite point to an extent and fades the braking performance in panic braking situations. Another room for improvement includes a slightly heavy tuned steering setup and long-travel clutch, something which can get tiring to drive in heavy traffic. Apart from that, the ESC-based terrain modes ( Eco, City, Sport) offer plenty of driving dynamics, but with no AWD or 4×4 on offer, they aren’t of much use on an FWD powertrain.

Overall, the new generation Tata Safari is a great option to consider between the 15 to 20 Lakh price bracket. In terms of practicality, however, tata safari 2022 mileage figures and ride & handling balance, the new 2022 Safari performs far much better than its predecessors such as the Safari Storme and Safari Dicor. But unlike its predecessors, one thing which makes the new Tata Safari adventure persona more of a front-wheel-drive softroader rather than being a highly capable 4×4 offroader SUV, which wasn’t the case with the previous generation Safari’s. However, all thanks to the Jaguar Land Rover underpinnings, the lack of a 4×4 system may not remain to be permanent as Tata Motors has clearly stated that the Omega ARC Land Rover architecture is perfectly capable of accommodating a 4×4 system. In light of this fact, Tata Motors will surely introduce a 4×4 variant for the new Safari if there will be sufficient demand, and the market is willing to bear the price hike for so.

Apart from that, this new flagship SUV from Tata Motors has made the competition much tougher for its rivalries including the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector & Hector Plus, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos, and many other SUVs competing in this segment. Now with JLR(Jaguar Land Rover) DNA, the new tata safari images offer incredible road presence in real while justifying its Safari badge with the stepped-up roof and a head-turning design language. The vehicle is evidently more capable than the old generation Safari’s in terms of performance as well as ride and handling balance. The upgrade from a body-on-frame to a monocoque chassis has just changed the rules for the new Safari, as this Safari offers great stability while driving at high speeds, without much body roll or trembling felt inside the cabin. The car smoothly glides through the worst you throw it in. However, the interiors aren’t the best in the segment and remain to be somehow similar to that of the harrier’s cabin. But Tata has improved the overall built quality of its interiors to an extent with new upholstery color options as well as reduced panel gaps.

So Should You Buy One?

Well, this new flagship SUV from Tata Motors is an amazing package overall and the brand is now offering new attractive tata safari 2022 colors schemes. No matter if you’re a family guy who likes going on long road trips with family or a busy routine office guy, the new Safari fits in very well with almost every character. The car loves to be ridden on rough terrains and straight highways while delivering great confidence to the driver with staggering high stance visibility from the cabin. However, we would personally recommend you the automatic variants of the new Safari, as the automatic powertrain is very responsive and easy to maneuver even if you’re driving such a big SUV for the first time. The manual isn’t that bad either, but, doesn’t provide enough feedback that you get to experience with the automatic Safari.

The Tata Safari is the flagship model for the Indian car maker that was first introduced in the country in 2021. At that time, the focus was as much on drawing inspiration from an iconic name as was on putting a brand-new model on a pedestal. This eventually resulted in the introduction of a three-row vehicle that promised SUV-like style but claimed MPV-like comfort. Fast forward just two years and the updated Tata Safari has a new wardrobe to show off in 2023.

And then there is the pivotal factor of in-car features - the more, the better, even if you end up not using a significant chunk of these in the long run. The Koreans started the trend and rivals like Tata Motors are only too keen to hit back. The Tata Safari, therefore, was always going to be pampered and peppered with features galore. So how do all of these factors come together to manifest in the flagship product from Tata Motors? Here is the first-drive review of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift:

expand

The updated Safari looks a tad bit more sporty compared to the outgoing model, while still retaining its largely sophisticated exterior design language. The face, for instance, has been reworked and now sports a new grille, a reworked vertical housing for the fog lamps and headlights, and a stretched DRL bar that connects the sequential DRLs on either side. In a nutshell, the comprehensive updates of the front fascia have given the SUV a butch yet premium look, making it significantly distinctive from the previous model which it has replaced.

There is not much change in the side profile of the new Tata Safari SUV, apart from the reworked alloy design on the 19-inch wheels. The design is likely to evoke different reactions from different viewpoints instead of inviting unilateral awe. But what works really well is how Tata Motors' designers have managed to snub the use of chrome elements and still come up with a visually striking profile. Overall, the side profile of the SUV looks slightly curvy and pretty clean. The subtly flared wheel arches give the SUV a bold and muscular look, while the new design alloy wheels enhance the premium sporty feel.

There are no chrome elements on the rear of the Safari either, where a stretched LED bar connects the two tail lights and runs all across the length of the trunk door which, by the way, offers powered powered-open option. Besides that, the tailgate looks pretty sculpted thanks to the glossy black panel running through the centre of the trunk that also houses the sleek LED bar. The integrated roof spoiler and chunky black bumper with a thick metal skid plate are other design elements that come enhancing the SUV's bold visual appearance.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Interior

The new Tata Safari's cabin has become much more premium now and a slew of updates to the feature list as well as to the upholstery lend the vehicle a premium appeal that would have otherwise been restricted to models in segments above the one this car competes in. The top-end Accomplished variant - or persona, as Tata Motors refers to it, comes with a dual-tone colour scheme inside the cabin but the White theme on the seats would be quite hard to maintain in pristine condition.

The layered dashboard now gets an artificial wood panel which is a nice touch while the central section is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit that is intuitive, puts out clear feed from the 360-degree cameras and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The map feed can also be redirected to the all-digital driver display screen for better navigation which now sports customisable layouts.

The steering wheel has also been updated and is now a four-spoke set with mounted controls and has an illuminated Tata logo on it. This is certainly another nice touch from Tata Motors enhancing the premium quotient inside the cabin of the new Safari SUV. The updated steering wheel is quite easy to operate and control the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functionalities that this car offers, courtesy of the layout of the control buttons on the wheel. On that note, the new Tata Safari SUV offers 11 ADAS functions in a further bid to aid driving safety and convenience.

There are plenty of other convenience features that the new Safari packs as well, whether it is the dual-zone climate control function, air purification system, ventilated seats at the front and middle, voice-activated panoramic sunroof, Alexa to Home technology or remote access to the vehicle.

Space remains the same inside the cabin of the new Tata Safari, which means that the SUV continues to be a decently spacious vehicle for passengers in all three rows. Space in that third row, however, continues to come at the cost of a compromised boot storage space. But that's really expected, right?

Overall, the new Tata Safari SUV come as a very well-appointed vehicle with quite a lot of space for comfortable long trips but now, at least in the top-spec version, is significantly more premium than before.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Safety

Tata Motors has been taking the front row across different segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market over the last few years when it comes to making safe cars. While the modern Tata cars come with a wide range of safety features, they also come with robust build quality as well. The Tata Safari facelift too comes following the same strategy.

The Tata Safari comes well-equipped with a host of safety features designed to provide peace of mind to the occupants. Some of the advanced safety technologies available onboard the Tata Safari facelift include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rain-sensing wipers, rollover mitigation, hill hold control, 360-degree view HD camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, front collision prevention function, blind spot detection etc. Moreover, it also gets features like ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors etc.

Here are some of the key safety features onboard the Tata Safari.

2023 tata safari facelift: performance.

Here is where the updated Tata Safari SUV could have been improved so much more. But isn't. So much has already been mentioned - and experienced - about the 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor under the hood and the choice between an automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual stick. Yes, the turbocharged diesel motor could have been refined further. Yes, the grunt is still uncomfortably palpable when pushing the vehicle to its limits. But yes, the new Tata Safari - especially with the automatic transmission - is still quite a fun car to drive and has enough power to get a move on when required. The suspension continues to hold its own on rough roads and the steering still has a nice heft to aid matters.

But why this otherwise very capable model does not also come with a petrol engine under its hood is beyond the comprehension of many. Tata Motors is almost snubbing the petrol-buying audience in the country, a group that is steadily increasing. There is also no 4x4 option for the updated version of the SUV because the platform on which the new Tata Safari is based on does not allow for it. But here is also a miss, especially as this model does go up against authentic off-road options in the market as well.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Verdict

The updated Tata Safari is a big step up in terms of its exterior design and cabin features and quality when compared to the previous model. Space has always been this car's strength but the additions to the feature list arm this SUV to the absolute teeth.

The diesel motor and the automatic transmission work extremely well in tandem but as mentioned previously, Tata Motors ought to strongly consider a petrol option for the model as well, especially considering the number of buyers favouring the petrol engines are increasing across India over the last few years

Best Cars for Long-Distance Road Trips in 2024

GoMechanic

Covering long distances on the road can be an exciting experience when done in a great car. In 2024, a few cars will be particularly known for their exceptional comfort, unparalleled ride quality, innovative features, excellent reliability, and performance you can count on— these will make great choices as touring cars for those long journeys you are planning this year. Choosing the best touring car for long distances can be done based on the parameters of the price bracket and then further choosing the best option for the purpose. Here we provide an in-depth look at the top cars under 30 lakhs for long-distance road trips in 2024.

Maruti Ertiga

Maruti-Ertiga

The Maruti Ertiga has been present in the Indian car market for the last 13 years. It has been the go-to choice for buyers seeking the best car for comfort and space and also providing the best value for money.

Comfort and Space: Its suspensions are softly sprung and tuned for comfort on long-distance road trips. These suspensions provide a very cushiony ride. The seats in the car have great under-thigh support and very nice bolstering. With its spacious and flexible interiors, the Ertiga can comfortably seat seven passengers with all the adjustments in hand for adjusting the seats by sliding back and forth, making it ideal for families or groups during long-distance touring. The 3rd row of seats in this car is handy, even for adults.

A large number of cubby holes and storage spaces are carved out nicely, and large cupholders and a temperature-controlled cup holder in the front make it versatile for touring purposes.

It has decent boot space and is further expandable by folding the 3rd row.

Performance: The Ertiga has a tried and tested 1.5 liter petrol engine. It is an utterly reliable engine that offers good fuel efficiency, upwards of 20 km/L in petrol and 26 km/kg in the CNG variant, which is a crucial factor for long trips.

Some of the important features Ertiga comes equipped with are:

Dynamic Chrome Winged Front Grille, Auto Headlamps with Follow Me Home/Lead me to Vehicle Feature, 17.78cm SmartPlay Studio and SmartPlay Pro Touch Screen Infotainment System, Quad Airbags, Suzuki Connect, Machined Two-tone Alloy Wheels, Plush Dual-Tone Seat Fabric, 6-Speed AT with Paddle Shifters, Steering Mounted Audio Controls, Suzuki Heartect Platform, Electrically Foldable ORVMs, 2nd Row Roof Mounted AC with 3 Stage Speed Control.

TATA Safari

The Tata Safari has been a tough-built body-on-frame SUV and used to be considered a great touring car. The all-new TATA Safari is no exception. However, this new Safari is a full monocoque construction, it comes with some solid benefits as well.

Space: The Safari comes fitted with a proper front facing 3rd row of seats, which makes it much more versatile in this segment. Space and comfort are great in this SUV with its monocoque chassis showing its capability to carve out space along with excellent ground clearance.

Storage spaces in this car are plentiful, and the cup holders are deep enough to hold large bottles.

Safari also boasts a good boot space capacity and is further expandable by tumbling the 3rd row flat.

Ruggedness and tough build: This car is built on the D8 OmegaArc platform from the house of Land Rover. This is a great platform and can take some solid beatings.

Tackling the bad Indian roads and highway undulations is a piece of cake for this vehicle, owing to its chassis and suspensions. For people looking for a car for long-distance road trips to some off-beat and remote areas in India, this is a great option.

Engine and Features: TATA’s Safari has a 2.0L diesel engine sourced from FCA. This engine has been doing its duties for a long time and is very reliable. It has enough grunt and reliability at your feet and is great for a touring machine.

It comes feature-loaded from the factory itself. Some of the most useful features for a vehicle being considered for a long-distance road trip are seat ventilation on all four seats, captain seats for the 2nd row, and a boss mode with a recline function.

  • Toyota Innova Crysta/Hycross

Toyota-Innova-Crysta

In India, the name ‘Innova’ is enough to portray an image of roads vanishing in the horizon in the rearview mirrors, a road trip, a mountain journey, and a comfortable, no-nonsense vehicle.

This car has been in business for almost two decades now. It has been the first choice for people looking for a mile-munching long-distance touring car since its inception. This car has been presented with many different engine and gearbox options as standard through the years, but one thing that has remained unchanged is the reliability of the package provided by Toyota.

Comfort and Ride: The ride quality of the Innova has been a key factor in its sale, especially the body on the frame of the Innova Crysta. The suspensions are probably one of the best on the market, and the chassis is similar to the one used in the Hilux pickup trucks. This provides great comfort, and it rides even on the worst roads in our country.

There are no issues related to storage spaces, as this car has a decent glove box and a center armrest with a cooled storage box. Cup holders are also plentiful in this car.

Efficiency: The new Innova Hycross is available as a Strong-Hybrid option, which has great fuel economy in the city and can cover more than 1200 km on a single full tank of petrol.

Selecting an appropriate car for a long journey is not just looking at fuel efficiency and reliability. There are four primary factors: comfort, space, performance, and features. The Maruti Ertiga, TATA Safari, and Toyota Innova Crysta/Hycross each offer distinct benefits that make them a good choice in 2024, whether you are traveling with family members or seeking adventure, these vehicles have your needs covered. For those who are simply looking to relax on their journey while enjoying all the bells and whistles available onboard a vehicle such as this one, it will certainly be memorable.

5 - Star for its Safety

Tata Safari passed the Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP car assesment program with flying colours. It recieved a perfect 5-star rating, both for adult occupant protection and child occupant protection, plus it's considered one of the safest SUV on indian market. All thanks to its rigid D8 platform taken from the Land Rover automobiles.

Some other saftey features include, all disc brakes, hill hold control, emergency control 3-Point SeatBelts with Reminder on all Rows, ISOFIX child seats. Additionally, all models of Safari get 6 airbags as standard.

Range of models to choose from

The Tata Safari offers a total of 15 models, providing a wide range of choices. The starting price is Rs 16,19,000, while the top model is priced at Rs 27,34,000 (ex-showroom). With so many options, you can easily find a model that suits your needs. Additionally, you can opt for accessories to add specific features without upgrading to a higher model.

Loaded With Features

Tata stands on par with international brands like Mercedes-Benz and Audi when it comes to adding features. The 2024 Tata Safari includes thoughtfully designed tech that enhances its appeal, such as ventilated seats in the 1st and 2nd rows, a comfort headrest in the 2nd row, rain-sensing wipers, 2nd level ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 4-way powered co-driver seat, drive modes, a 26.03 cm digital instrument cluster with navigation display, and steering-mounted controls.

Tech Mania in Tata Safari

The 31.24 cm touchscreen infotainment display acts like the car's computer, providing all the necessary information while allowing passengers to play media, navigate, and wirelessly connect their Android or Apple devices. Additionally, the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) brings us closer to autonomous driving with features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.

Considering its humongous size, Tata has added a 3600 camera to the Safari, making parking in tight corners much easier. Additionally, the facelift model features a gesture-controlled powered tailgate, so you don't have to worry if your hands are full and no one is around to help.

Tata Safari Rear Profile

Improved driveability

The suspension in the 2024 Safari has been tweaked, and with the help of 19-inch MRF tires, the overall drivability has significantly improved. Now, you can cruise comfortably for long hours. The excellent visibility, thanks to its height, allows you to see objects from a distance. While the Safari is capable of off-roading, the 2WD variants may find it a bit challenging.

On the other hand, the Kryotec 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine easily handles this 2126 kg vehicle. Producing 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the engine provides more than adequate power for the Safari. Two transmission options are available: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, both of which work perfectly with this engine.

Trunk Space

The Tata Safari is available with either seven or six seats. However, it offers only 420 liters of boot space. If the family is going on a trip and every seat is occupied, all suitcases won't fit in the trunk. You might have to carry a suitcase in the legroom or on laps. For such a large car, this amount of space is quite limited.

Panel gaps in the dashboard

The facelifted Safari features a touchscreen system to control the dual-zone automatic climate control. However, according to several customers, they hear a crackling noise whenever they press the screen, which seems to come from an empty space indicating panel gaps. This is concerning, especially considering its price tag.

Uncomfotable driving position

The placement of grab handles below the center console is not ergonomic for the driver's knee comfort. When the driver shifts their knees towards the left, the grab handle becomes a barrier, which is inconvenient. Consequently, drivers tend to avoid using it. This issue has persisted from the previous Harrier and Safari models and continues in the current version.

Not the best in offroading

oThe older Safari was renowned for its legendary off-roading capabilities. However, the new model has shifted to a front-wheel-drive setup and a monocoque chassis, which limits its ability to traverse rough terrain like traditional SUVs. The new Safari is now positioned more as a luxury vehicle rather than an all-terrain adventurer. While it enjoys high demand and popularity among families, many enthusiasts miss the unique charm of the older Safari's rugged capabilities.

So, here are the five pros and cons of the 2024 Tata Safari. We believe this will help clarify all your questions and expectations about this flagship Tata SUV.

Verdict The Tata Safari is selling like hotcakes these days, and people can't get enough of it. One major reason for its popularity is the name itself: "Safari," a dream car for millions of Indians. Another key factor contributing to its success is that it is a sensible choice over the Tata Harrierit drives better, offers more space, and has better road presence.
