1 HOUR CRUISE

PERFECT FOR A SIGHTSEEING EXCURSION

We'll depart from our moorings at Windermere Marina Village and head South toward Lakeside, or North toward Ambleside. You choose, or we can help you based on what you want to get out of the experience.

Heading North we'll pass the majestic Belle Isle, then Bowness, and head towards White Cross Bay. This is the widest section of the Lake and offers stunning scenery - headlined by the fabulous Langdale Pikes.

Alternatively, heading South we'll take in the eastern shore and pass Ramp Holme and Storrs Hall, and head toward Beech Hill Hotel and Tower Wood before circling back along the western shore where we'll pass Ling Holme. This tends to be a less busy route than heading North and offers some equally stunning scenery.

Conditions permitting we may be able to cruise over to one of the secluded bays so that you and your guests can sit back, and enjoy taking in the beauty of the surroundings.

We'll provide you with soft drinks and a selection of savoury nibbles. Or you may prefer some more elaborate catering, which we can arrange for you.

ISLAND TOUR CRUISE

APPROX 1.5 HOURS

The ultimate Lake experience. Indulge yourself and your guests in a once in a lifetime Windermere cruise!

A lot of people don't realise that there are many islands on Windermere. Most of these are named ___‘holme’ which is a local dialect word for ‘island’, which has its origins in the ancient Norse language.

Typically we'll start out by cruising from Marina Village across to the western shore and take in the far side of the fabulous Belle Isle and the "Lillies of the Valley". Further north there is Thompson Holme and Haws Holme, all equally majestic in stature.

Emerging from Belle Isle we'll head further north around Hen Holme, Lady Holme and Rough Holme - one of which has a very interesting and curious heritage which our Skipper will tell you all about!

We'll then head back towards our starting point via the eastern side of Belle Isle, passing Bowness Bay and Cockshott Point. All the while you just sit back and take in the stunning surroundings, and enjoy the peace and tranquility that this beautiful Lake offers. We'll do our best to tailor the trip to exactly match your requirements so that this is a truly magical experience for you.

Please let us know if you have anything specific that you'd like us to try and arrange for you, and let us know if it's a special occasion such as a proposal, birthday, anniversary, etc.

Also included in this luxury experience are soft drinks and a selection of sweet and savoury snacks and nibbles.

Windermere Lake Cruises Private Hire - The Langdale Hotel & Spa

Windermere Private Circular Cruise with Windermere Lake Cruises

The largest lake in the England, and undoubtably one of the largest attractions to the Lake District, Windermere is known by many for its breathtakingly calm aura and picturesque views. With piers leading onto the lake from multiple locations, including Bowness, Ambleside and Lakeside, you can explore every inch of its water.

Services have been operating on the lake since 1891. Windermere Lake Cruises operate 364 days of the year, offering a range of boating experiences. From a chilled paddle out in a rowing boat, an historic ride on one of their famous steamers, or a hosting a private party on the water, there’s a way to set sail for everyone.

One of their more unique offerings is their ‘Private Circular Cruise’ which encompasses a private trip out on one of their traditional launches. Four in total, the launches speak for themselves. Grand with historical heritage, the traditional launches are not only wonderful to look at, the smooth design rides the water seamlessly. One of the launches, ‘Queen of the lake’, even travelled down to London to take part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

With exclusive access to the boat for you and your group, enjoy the launch to yourself with just your dedicated skipper to accompany you. As you sail around the lake, the most scenic route takes you up to Ambleside Pier and circles back down around to Bowness, showcasing the most beautiful parts of the surrounding areas.

If requested, your skipper will educate you on the history behind the boats, stunning location and surrounding activities. And if you have a specific route in mind, this can be tailored exactly to your group with the option of ‘any pier’ pick up and drop off, fitting for when you want to explore every inch of the Lake District.

So, whether you want to sit back and soak up the views, or listen to their knowledgeable commentary, it is an ideal way to cruise the water. The Private Circular Cruise is a brilliant time out on the water, with the only people you want to share it with. Able to take up to 30 people, make the occasion exactly what you want it to be. Bring your friends, family and simply enjoy the breathtaking tranquility of Windermere Lake.

Customer Testimonials

We booked this for a birthday treat! There were 4 of us in total and we booked an afternoon tea onboard. Such an amazing experience!!! I can’t recommend enough! Our skipper and host were so nice and made our trip really enjoyable, the food was spot on and the views were to die for. We are already looking to book out next visit with you guys!

Unreal experience on the lake, came with a small group of friends and Les and Julie offered a great experience and hosted us exceptionally well. Will definitely come back and have already recommended to others we know!

Les and Julie were fantastic hosts. They decorated the yacht for my wife’s birthday. We all had a go at being captain. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Les was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area.

Celebrated my dad’s 88th birthday with a 2 hour session, what a fantastic experience for the whole family. From start to finish Les & Julie looked after us all, they were so friendly and easy going and we could participate as much or as little as we liked, even my mum and dad took part in steering the boat. We ordered the sandwiches and sweet treat box which was delicious and tea and coffee were offered throughout the trip (other drinks were offered too). I would highly recommend this activity because it’s brilliant. The surprise at the end was a lovely thought and we’ll always have special memories of this occasion. Even the rain didn’t spoil our day! Thank you Les & Julie.

Les and Julie couldn’t have been more welcoming. We cruised down to the south of the lake and back up again, where the sails were finally unfurled. Our hosts were very knowledgeable and pointed out landmarks and points of interest. We had a lovely lunch with Prosecco on board and were very sorry when it all came to an end. What a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

4 of us had a “delayed” 50th birthday celebration on the most beautiful boat with the simply wonderful Les & Julie. They were knowledgeable, likeable, considerate and welcoming – absolutely perfect hosts, really fantastic. Cannot recommend this experience enough – the weather wasn’t the best for us but it didn’t really impact on what was a fabulous day. Thank you so much Les & Julie.

PLEASE NOTE: For your safety and protection. unless you are otherwise advised all the Yacht sailing activities will be run by Lakeland Adventures. There is no smoking policy onboard Elana or when in our premises. Click here for Terms and Conditions

Special D-Day 80th anniversary tribute on Windermere's historic boat

Cumbria have commemorated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, with a special tribute on board one of Windermere’s historic cruise vessels.

This tribute took place on Wednesday, June 5, a day before the day before the anniversary of D-Day.

It began at 8am in the morning, featuring a lone piper playing on the deck of Windermere Lake Cruises’ historic boat, MV Teal.

This poignant performance was in honour of Bill Millin, the brave piper who famously played tunes on Sword Beach on D-Day in 1944, boosting the morale of the Allied troops.

The bagpipe tribute is part of a series of 10 performances, organised by Cumbria Freemasons with the Royal Pageant Master of Buckingham Palace, part of a schedule that started 80 days ahead of D-Day's anniversary.

Bill Bewley, chairman of Winander Leisure, and head of Cumbria Freemasons, was full of praise for this unusual commemoration.

Mr Bewley said: "This was a very special, poignant event and a very important one too.

"D-Day was a defining moment in our history and its only right we commemorate it and remember all those who took part.

"Windermere Lake Cruises has been honoured to be involved."

Richard Cowie, a member of Cumbria Freemasons, performed the touching song 'Highland Laddie' and will complete his performances on Thursday, June 6, D-Day.

Mr Millin boldly contravened the British military’s prohibition on pipers at the front and in his Cameron tartan kilt walked along Sword Beach.

German soldiers later admitted they were reluctant to target him.

The final bagpipe tribute will take place on June 6 at 8am at Kendal Rugby Club.

Later that day, an event will also take place at the club at 5.30pm, celebrating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The event will feature a commemorative parade, military vehicles, the Burneside Brass band, and a period singer, with all proceeds going to Armed Forces charities.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A 76-year-old man from Gainesville drowned in Lake Lanier on Wednesday, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Georgia game wardens, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and the Forsyth Fire Department were called to the lake near Keith Bridge Park at around 9:30 p.m. Jim Hansard’s body was found in 13 feet of water using boat-mounted sonar, the department said.

Hansard hadn’t been seen since lunchtime when he was at his dock, the department said. A friend noticed Hansard’s golf cart at the dock and spotted a water shoe floating nearby.

Forsyth County divers were able to recover Hansard’s body.
