NF - Hope Tour

NF raps with raw grit and emotional authenticity, born of a lifetime of taking hits and getting back up again. He’s earned 39 RIAA certifications,14 Platinum plaques, and 5 multi-Platinum honors. This success stems from genuine fan-fueled momentum — connecting directly with fans in an authentic way

Nate Feuerstein came of age in Michigan, using music as both escape and expression, a way to channel his pain. Through the years, he’s demonstrated the power of vulnerability on hits like “Let You Down” and “The Search.” In 2015, he signed with Capitol Records; thus setting the stage to climb to rap dominance beginning with his album, Mansion followed by Therapy Session in 2016 and Perception in 2017, which debuted at No. 1 and eventually went 2x Platinum. In 2019, he dropped The Search, which also hit No. 1 and went Platinum. His 2021 project CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE), an inward-looking mixtape, again connected deeply with listeners, debuting within the top three on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart and Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart.

NF Announces North American ‘Hope Tour’

hope tour calgary

Today, Michigan rapper and producer NF  announces his HOPE TOUR. The massive 47 show runs across the US, Canada, Europe, and UKin support of his forthcoming studio album, HOPE, releasing April 7. Produced by Live Nation, the North American leg of the tour will feature special guest Cordae and kick off on Wednesday, July 12th at Schottenstein Center in Columbus making stops across the U.S. in Philadelphia, Anaheim, Denver, and more before wrapping up in Laval at Place Bell on Sunday, September 3rd. The 16-date European leg kicks off on September 23rd at the Fabrique in Milan making stops in Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, and more before wrapping up in London at Eventim Apollo on October 15th.

Last month NF returned with the stirring new single “HOPE” (NF Real Music/Virgin Music). The song finds the multi-Platinum hitmaker at his most raw and unfiltered as he assesses his musical journey thus far and looks to the future. Hope is accompanied by a suitably uplifting visual, which captures the MC’s defiance and authenticity. Watch it HERE.

Next up is NF’s facetious “MOTTO”, of which The New York Times says, “in his early career, NF sounded as if he was internalizing all the pressures of the world, but now he sounds free and calm, dismissing those same pressures with a shrug.”

HOPE  is the fifth studio album from the Billboard chart-topping, multi-platinum artist. Known for rapping quick-witted lyrics over hip hop beats and cinematic production, NF has built an obsessively loyal fanbase that has earned him over 30 billion global streams and established NF as one of the most consumed artists today. NF’s  HOPE  is a 13-track album boasting instant hits, such as “HAPPY”, “MOTTO” and notable Grammy-nominated features with singer/songwriter Julia Michaels on “GONE,” and rapper Cordae on “CAREFUL”.

Anaheim ducks | ducks hope to salvage something out of trip finale in calgary, the ducks face the flames looking to secure a point from a five-game swing that has seen them go 0-4-0 while being outscored 17-5, part of a dismal 1-11-1 stretch since the march 8 trade deadline.

hope tour calgary

In the dying embers of their road trip, the Ducks flew to Calgary for a matchup with the Flames and their final opportunity to secure a point from a five-game outing that has seen them go 0-4-0 while being outscored 17-5.

Their most competitive game was also their most recent, a 3-2 loss in Vancouver in which they were a couple of minutes before they would have forced the Pacific Division frontrunner to overtime. The Ducks scored twice in 71 seconds and later drew a penalty with 5:51 to play. However, they didn’t record a shot on their power play before giving up a late game-winner to Dakota Joshua on a play when both Ducks defensemen chased the puck below the goal line.

“You don’t leave the front of the net when the puck is behind your net,” Ducks coach Greg Cronin said, lamenting Sunday’s result. “They’re not scoring from behind the net, just stay there. We’ve talked about it repeatedly this year. It’s just foolishness.”

The Ducks got a goal apiece from Mason McTavish, who had seen his power-play role and ice time alike slashed during the prior two games, and Olen Zellweger, who was born in Calgary and then moved around northern Alberta, making this trip something of a homecoming for him.

“It’s kind of like a dream for everyone to score their first NHL goal, so I’m pretty happy to be able to do it,” Zellweger said.

With his secondary assist on McTavish’s goal, Trevor Zegras found the scoresheet for the first time since his two-goal showing against Detroit back on Jan. 7. Zegras broke his ankle in the following game in Nashville and returned from the surgery just four games ago. He played nearly 20 minutes on Sunday in Vancouver, his fourth highest time-on-ice total this season after playing a season-low 11:05 two games earlier.

The Ducks also faced a pair of recently departed teammates a game earlier in Edmonton, where they fell, 6-1 , while Adam Henrique scored for the second straight contest and Sam Carrick recorded an assist in their first game against their former club.

Since the March 8 NHL trade deadline, the Ducks have lost 12 of 13 games (1-11-1) by a combined count of 55-18. Over that period, they’ve scored the fewest goals in the NHL and allowed the most while owning the league’s worst points percentage, lowest penalty kill rate and the second worst power-play efficiency.

Next up they’ll face the Flames, a club that was just as active as the Ducks in moving out assets this season and that has also struggled on the penalty kill and overall defensively, especially since the deadline. They’ve been off since Saturday when they halted a five-game skid with a 4-2 victory over the Kings .

Center Nazem Kadri has been a point-per-game player in the 2024 calendar year, in which fellow pivot Yegor Sharangovich has picked up 31 of his 53 points this season. The 25-year-old Belarusian was acquired from the New Jersey Devils over the summer in the Tyler Toffoli trade and has set career highs in points, goals, assists and power-play points during his first campaign with Calgary.

On the Ducks’ injury front, defenseman Radko Gudas (upper-body injury) has not joined the group, extending his absence to 10 games. Rookie rearguard Pavel Mintyukov (lower-body) should be considered questionable after missing the Vancouver game.

Season 2 of ‘Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock’ shot in Calgary

The second season of the rebooted Fraggle Rock franchise premiers March 29 on AppleTV+.

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock season 2 was filmed inside the Calgary Film Centre.

During Global News Calgary's exclusive tour on set, we got to see the world of fraggles, gorgs and doozers come to life in real time.

John Tartaglia is a writer and executive producer on the show. He's also the puppet captain and plays a number of characters, including Gobo fraggle and Sprocket the dog.

He felt the pressure to deliver on season 2, after a very successful season one that got a 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and awards from the Directors Guild of Canada, Canadian Cinema Editors Awards, PGA Awards and Children's Family and Emmy Awards.

"It's still the beautiful show that we love and the fans love, but we've just kind of upped the stakes a little bit," Tartaglia says.

The original Jim Henson Fraggle Rock series debuted in 1983 and was filmed in Toronto.

Both seasons of the rebooted franchise were filmed in Calgary.

Tartaglia says it was so important to come back to Canada.

"There's something about the heart of the show that's always had a Canadian feel to it, and I think that's really important to capture here."

Calgary crews were used throughout production, too, including prop master Kesar Lacroix, who got to create all the vehicles and tech for the doozer characters in season 2.

"Everybody in our department has grown up with Fraggle Rock, period. It's part of our childhood, and we all became prop makers and prop builders and prop on-set technologists in order to get the shot of hopefully doing a show like this, and we've had the best time doing it."

This latest series is another notch in the belt for Calgary's film and TV industry, which continues to grow and grab the attention of Hollywood.

The Calgary Film Commission says between 2021 and 2023, $1.2 billion was spent on production, nearly 15,000 jobs were created and more than 750,000 square feet of studio and production space was built. It's got big plans for 2024, including building a website to recruit, train and retain talent.

Jordan Lockhart, the puppeteer and voice for Wembley Fraggle, grew up in Ottawa. He believes Canada is gaining a foothold on the market.

"Things have come a long way from when I was in high school, dreaming of being in film and television.

"There's amazing talent here in Canada.

"Toronto and Vancouver are touted as being the hubs, but having been here now for two seasons in Calgary, I'm so impressed by the crews out here."

Karen Prell has been the puppeteer and voice for Red fraggle since the original Fraggle Rock series more than four decades ago. She's thrilled to see star power like Ariana DeBose, Brett Goldstein, Adam Lambert and Catherine O'Hara join for guest appearances in Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock season 2.

She also says outside of the cold and snow, Calgary is a magical place.

"I love Calgary. It's just beautiful. I love the people here, I love the scenery. I love running along the river. I've made several trips to Banff."

As for what to expect in the latest Fraggle Rock series, executive producer and writer Alex Cuthbertson says they keep Hensen, the original creator, in their minds.

"We knew we wanted to stay with the elements of the Earth because that feels so connected to Fraggle Rock . So, we decided that wind was a really cool way to explore the season. We used wind as a metaphor to talk about change that is both scary and exciting."

"It's hope punk. It's making hope cool again," Tartaglia said. "This family of characters can speak to a new generation of kids and hopefully make the world a better place."

You can watch Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock season 2 on AppleTV+ starting March 29, 2024.

‘We were a step behind’: Underwhelming Kings now must hope to salvage road trip

Mar 30, 2024; Calgary, Alberta, CAN; Calgary Flames center Blake Coleman (20) celebrates his goal against the Los Angeles Kings during the second period at Scotiabank Saddledome. Mandatory Credit: Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

CALGARY — How much of a letdown and a disappointment was the Los Angeles Kings’ 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday night at Scotiabank Saddledome?

The best thing that happened was about 1,900 miles away. The Kings were the beneficiary of the San Jose Sharks rising up after nine straight losses, and 18 losses over a 19-game stretch, to beat the Blues on the road in St. Louis. It was a bad loss for a Blues team whose playoff hopes are faint and it allowed Los Angeles to keep a five-point cushion for the last playoff spot in the West.

But in Calgary, Adrian Kempe wore a letter for the first time in his career and got a goal for the occasion. And that was about it.

The Kings might have had looks at the game, but they were never truly in it. Not the way they had been invested in Vancouver and Edmonton, even though they had mixed results. Those two opponents are foes they may run up against in the first round — operating under the assumption they do get in. And they should be in, considering a relatively breezy year-end schedule with only two of the final nine opponents bound for the postseason.

Calgary won’t be in the playoffs. And yet on Saturday, when Vegas collected another two points by beating Minnesota in overtime, the Kings had four shots on goal after 20 minutes and nine after 40 minutes, before bumping that up to 18 after 60. Jacob Markstrom , who somehow didn’t get traded even if he’s been open to moving, didn’t have to be outstanding.

Meanwhile, the Flames put 35 shots on Kings goalie David Rittich and basically had the edge everywhere. They never trailed, deservedly so, which left coach Jim Hiller more disappointed and upset with his usually hardworking club than any other time since replacing Todd McLellan.

“They were quicker, faster, stronger,” Hiller said. “And when you’re a step behind like we were, the question for me is, why were we a step behind? Then you’re going to look like it did. First period, they had probably seven, eight grade-A chances. We had one. It was on a power play.

“Just not good enough. Not good enough.”

What could have been a road trip that helped define the Kings as a postseason threat has become one to salvage as they wrap up Monday in Winnipeg against the playoff-bound Jets . The Kings must recalibrate themselves from an emotional standpoint, because while Kempe and Anze Kopitar felt their energy was there against the Flames, their coach saw a club that didn’t look as engaged as it was when facing the Canucks and Oilers .

Facing the Flames had to feel like a letdown, and the Kings fell right into that trap.

“We were a step behind,” Hiller said again. “So why were we? That could be part of it, for sure. We got to get to the bottom of it because at this time of the year — and we’ve talked about it — we’ve had a pretty good run, we’ve played hard night after night. Why weren’t we ready to play hard tonight? And that’s a question that we’ve got to find an answer to.”

Before the game, the Kings realized Phillip Danault couldn’t play as he was dealing with an upper-body injury. Danault has been a high-valued center since general manager Rob Blake signed him as a free agent. He plays in all situations, is a determined backchecker and defender and isn’t shy about going into the greasy areas offensively. And he has a central role in their penalty kill, which is vastly improved over last season.

His absence was felt in a number of ways Saturday.

“We miss him all over the ice,” Hiller said. “He’s one of those guys that pretty consistently shows up to play hard. We didn’t have enough guys to do that. Phil would have been one, there’s no question. It’s the penalty kill, it’s the faceoffs, it’s the checking. We didn’t have our checking legs or our checking mindset.”

Kempe served as an alternate captain in Danault’s place. He’d answer Nazem Kadri ’s power-play goal with one of his own just 57 seconds later to forge a 1-1 tie. And then the Kings got another with the man advantage as Kopitar finished a nice passing play fed by Kempe and started by Kevin Fiala .

But the Kings still lost the special teams battle as their top-ranked penalty kill was solved by Calgary three times. Blake Coleman and MacKenzie Weegar each gave the Flames two-goal leads. Mix in a very poor night in five-on-five play and a propensity to keep the seat warm in the penalty box and the score didn’t reflect how much they were outplayed.

hope tour calgary

“Obviously, our start wasn’t good enough,” Kempe said. “I think we came out and wanted to play too much rush game. At this time of the year, that’s not the way we play. Calgary, they’re a good team. I think they can play a little bit more risky than we can at this time of the year right now.

“We turned too many pucks over in the first period. We weren’t hard enough. Didn’t get to the net. I think it got better as the night went on but still I think overall we played too much on the outside. I think we didn’t get to Markstrom hard enough. Obviously didn’t have enough shots either. Didn’t give us a chance to win tonight.”

Added Kopitar: “We just weren’t connected as a unit on the ice really. I don’t think our passing was sharp today.”

To the six minor penalties they took — two for high-sticking, two for cross-checking and one each for roughing and tripping — Kopitar said, “It’s definitely too many penalties. We’d like to keep it at three and below. It’s just too much.

“I don’t think we have to hit the panic button for our penalty kill,” he added. “It’s been solid all year. We’ll get back to looking at the video for a bit and correct our mistakes.”

A blunt Hiller dug further into their penalty troubles, which resulted from their not driving play like they do on many other nights.

“What happens is when you’re a step behind — it happened all over the ice — you get frustrated,” he said. “You get frustrated at yourself, you get frustrated at your teammates. … And that’s what we did.

“It all comes down to not being ready. Not moving your feet. And then you get frustrated. Oftentimes, when you take penalties it’s because you’re frustrated.”

Sunday will be a practice day for the Kings after they canceled a Friday on-ice session in favor of an off-ice workout. They can use the time to sharpen up their game. Sure, their power play got things done Saturday but otherwise, they didn’t generate much offensively over the first three games of the trip. A nice redirect by Kopitar early in the third would have created a 3-3 tie but Markstrom foiled that with his best save among the 16 made.

Maybe that would have given them the boost they needed, which was missing most of the night. The Kings must get it going again soon. Back-to-back losses after a four-game winning streak wouldn’t usually sound an alarm, but there is a playoff berth to be had with Vegas edging away for the third-place spot, leaving them in wild-card land.

“We’re going to have to get ourselves back together and come out and play how we do,” Hiller said. “And that’s a heck of a lot harder than we played tonight.”

Young Lightning fan battling brain cancer skates with his heroes

  • Eduardo A. Encina Times staff

TAMPA — When the NHL was returning during the pandemic four years ago, young hockey fan Easton Beatch was looking for a team to cheer on. A Calgary resident, his hometown Flames were eliminated in the first round. He started following the Lightning and watched them win the Stanley Cup in the bubble.

“So I kept them,” Easton said of his favorite team.

Last June, Easton wasn’t feeling well. Initially, his parents thought he might have concussion symptoms, but he was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer that originates in the cerebellum, which controls muscle coordination, balance and movement. He needed two emergency brain surgeries within two weeks of his diagnosis.

Easton next required immediate proton radiation therapy, which isn’t available in Canada. So with six days notice, the family moved to Jacksonville for two months so Easton could receive treatment at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. Six months of chemotherapy back home in Calgary followed.

On Saturday morning, Easton, now 10, lived out a dream, hitting the ice with the Lightning during their morning skate at Amalie Arena. Easton emerged from the tunnel wearing a blue No. 12 Lightning jersey with his name on the back and started feeding passes to his favorite player, Steven Stamkos.

He participated in the team’s skating drills, weaving around a cone and shooting on net. He scored on Andrei Vasilevskiy and even ended his ice session getting to tussle with Lightning enforcer Tanner Jeannot, pulling Jeannot’s jersey over his head.

“Yeah, he jerseyed him,” said Easton’s mother, Amanda. “All Canadian kids work on that.”

The Beatch family came back to Jacksonville for a checkup with Easton’s oncologist, so an invitation for Easton to skate with the Lightning a few hours away was a can’t-miss opportunity. The family also attended Saturday night’s win over the Islanders.

“He’s a strong guy,” his mother said. “Getting through two brain surgeries and even watching him skate (Saturday) was unbelievable. After this type of brain surgery, it can be really hard to even walk and talk again, so we are so grateful. To see him standing there with his favorite team and his heroes and getting tips and a pass from Stamkos, it’s unbelievable.

“He’s been through so much, so having these moments created for us, it just brings him so much joy and makes him smile after all he’s been through.”

The #GoBolts had a special guest for today’s skate. 10-year-old Easton Beatch, a Calgary resident who is a huge #TBLightning fan, joined the them on the ice. Easton was diagnosed w/ brain cancer in June & has endured 2 brain surgeries, 2 months of radiation & 6 months of chemo. pic.twitter.com/MQJoj18zDu — Eduardo A. Encina (@EddieInTheYard) March 30, 2024

Easton also received a tour of the Lightning dressing room, where his family immediately took note of the Bolts logo in the middle of the room. Easton’s bedroom wall has three Lightning logos painted on the ceiling and walls.

“Now after hearing about the logo on the floor, I just wanted to confirm, ‘You cannot paint the floor,’ ” his mother said. “Him and his grandpa painted three huge logos a month ago. So he’s a legit fan.”

Easton also received a game stick from fellow Calgary native Brayden Point, who signed the blade in silver Sharpie. He clutched a dressing room stall plate with his name on it, while wearing his Lightning cap with Stamkos’ No. 91 on the side.

Easton is looking forward to getting back on the ice and playing again. His last two scans showed no signs of disease, so after six months of home schooling, he will go back to his fifth-grade classes when he returns home.

“We’re nervous to say he’s cancer free,” his mother said. “But apparently there’s no evidence after two scans, and on April 11 he has another scan, and then from there on, there’s no more treatments. You just hope and pray that it’s OK.”
