Is Warner Brothers Studio Tour Really Worth The Money?

So you’re planning a trip to Los Angeles and you’re wondering – is the Warner Brothers Studio Tour really worth the money? The short answer is – yes. (You can certainly keep on reading if you’d like to hear my thoughts and observations on the entire experience!) In this article I’ll answer another popular question: what do you see on the Warner Brothers tour?

The Warner Brothers Studio Tour has been known to be one of the best backlot studio tours in all of Los Angeles for more than a decade. The first time I went on a tour was back in 2007 – when Everybody Loves Raymond was a hit TV show produced on site. I remember it well because seeing the sets of the popular sitcom up-close was a highlight for me that day.

Warner brothers studio tour

Fast forward to 2023 and the Warner Brothers Studio Tour is still great – but has been streamlined with even more unique experiences for visitors.

Buying Tickets And Starting The Studio Tour

The ticket buying process is simple – you can purchase them online and see right away which tours are still available. The studio has a paid parking garage which is immediately next to the entrance where you’ll start your tour.

You’ll begin the experience with a video presentation that lasts about ten minutes and gives a nice overview of the studio’s history, location, and what you can expect as the tour begins.

As you exit the theater, one of the tour guides will drive you around the backlot on a small tram that holds about 15 people. It’s not a crowded experience – each tour is quite intimate and you shouldn’t have any trouble at all hearing the trivia tidbits or seeing things they’ll point out along the way.

The Warner Brothers Studio Tour finally begins!

You’re likely to see some notable locations as you cruise around the lot. For fans of the show Friends , you’ll see where they filmed the introduction of the popular sitcom and splashed around in the “Friends fountain.” You also may spot the Tanner’s San Francisco home from Fuller House or the cafe featured in Shameless . Be on the lookout for the courthouse – it’s used in many films but notably was where Batman & Robin went to visit Commissioner Gordon in the 60s TV series Batman .

Friends set at Warner brothers studio tour

While you’re on the backlot tour you’ll likely stop to see one of the actual production sets for a current television show. Back in 2007 – I remember getting to visit the sets of The West Wing; ER; and Gilmore Girls. Since I don’t watch much television these days, I wasn’t really familiar with the sets we were able to see this time. The good news is – even if you don’t know the show, it’s still really interesting being on a sound stage and seeing how they produce television programs.

You’ll also likely visit some of the empty facades which line the streets of the backlot. It’s interesting to hear which classic films or shows previously used the same buildings – with different paint jobs or decorations. Warner Brothers is known for making good use of everything they already have built! It’s cool how many of these buildings you get to see during the Warner Brothers Studio Tour!

Dress Appropriately For The Tour!

The first part of the tour is almost completely outside (the tram has no doors or windows) and you’ll be subject to whatever the weather happens to be doing. Bring a light jacket in the winter months or prepare to be hot in the summer months.

Explore Warner Brothers Studio Tour Visitors Center

The second part of the tour takes place in a visitors center where you’re able to take as much time as you want to explore. You can even grab a bite to eat! It’s here where you are able to have some really interesting hands-on experiences and learn about the production process that takes place at Warner Brothers.

Warner brother studio tour

You’ll have a chance to try your hand at voiceovers and see how sound effects are produced for films. You’ll learn about the process for creating a musical soundtrack and how to creatively use camera angles. There are quite a few wardrobe pieces on display from notable films and even a section of drawing cartoons – like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

See The Set of Friends and Big Bang Theory Set

The most popular attraction for guests at the visitors center is getting to see the Friends set. The iconic sitcom is still popular and people love getting the chance to sit on the Friends couch.

Personally, my favorite part of the Warner Brothers Studio Tour was having the chance to sit in Sheldon’s spot on the set of The Big Bang Theory. For no additional charge, you can have your photo taken while you visit the set Friends or see the Big Bang Theory set. (They also offer a paid version if you’d prefer a higher quality image. I just used my Iphone!)

Now on to the third and final part of the Warner Brothers Studio Tour – a tram whisks you away to another building that’s connected to where you started your tour. This building has memorabilia and artifacts from various Warner Brothers productions like Batman Returns, Superman, and Harry Potter. (I’ve honestly never seen Harry Potter – but if you read the books or watched the movies – this is something you’d probably really enjoy.)

Warner brother studio tour

Again – you’re allowed to take your time browsing and once you’re finished, you’ll exit back into the main lobby where you can go through the Warner Brothers Studio Tour gift shop or head back to your car in the garage.

Is Warner Brothers Studio Tour Worth It?

Overall, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour is a great bargain if you’re looking for the best backlot tour in Los Angeles. If you can find a southern California resident to tag along – the tickets are about $10 cheaper!

You can find tickets and tour times on their website . They also offer a “deluxe” tour experience for a much higher price – but for the average person – the general tour is going to be more than enough.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

The people you pass aren’t actors (well, they are actors, but they aren’t acting as if they’re real movie and TV crew when they’re not – you know what I mean!)

And while you will see sets that have been frozen in time on the WB Studio Tour (Friends set, we’re looking at you!), you’ll also experience the constantly changing backlot.

What to Expect at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Los Angeles

From the iconic Friends fountain and orange couch to facades of the exterior of houses that you’ll recognize from everything from Growing Pains (1980s) to Fuller House (2020s), there’s something memorable literally around every corner on the Warner Bros tour.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

We couldn’t possibly cover everything you’ll see, and we wouldn’t want to because part of the fun is the element of surprise.

Instead, we’ll touch on some highlights to get you excited and give you some of the best tips for making the most of your day.

Practical Tips for Visiting the Warner Bros Tour

Buying tickets to the wb studio tour.

Buying tickets to the studio tour needs to be done before your visit, but it’s very easy to buy them online here.

Prices are $69 per adult and $59 per child, and you’ll just keep your confirmation e-mail with you as you go through the experience and arrival process.

Discounts and Cheap Tickets for Warner Bros Studio Tour

Sometimes, you can find discounted tickets for the tour using a couple of different methods.

Firstly, if you’re a SoCal resident, you get discounted tickets anyway as long as you have proof of residency.

If you’re not from the area, sign up for the mailing list through the official website for the chance to keep an eye on any promo codes (they aren’t frequent, but there is a space on the booking site for promo codes so it is possible).

Alternatively, check out the Warner Brother Studios Tour on Undercover Tourist here , as they often have discounted tickets available for about $5-10 off the regular price.

Opening Days and Times

Currently, the Warner Bros Studio Tour is open five days a week, excluding Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

On days they are open, the first tour usually begins at 9am and the last tour begins at 3:30pm (again, you have unguided time to walk through afterwards).

warner brothers studio tour

How Long is the Warner Bros Studio Tour?

The guided portion of the tour is about 1 hour, and you should leave about 2 to 3 hours total as the rest will be unguided at your own pace.

Parking at Warner Bros Studio LA

Los Angeles is a driving city, which means your main options to get to the tour are either driving yourself or taking an Uber or Lyft.

If driving yourself, parking is $15 and is located in a dedicated, security-guarded parking lot adjacent to the Warner Bros main visitor building ( 3400 Warner Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505 ).

If you get an Uber, they are allowed to drop you off and pick you up right outside the visitor building in a dedicated rideshare landing zone.

The Warner Bros Tour website also makes mentions of buses and trains that can “get you” to the tour, but these are convoluted and long processes and they’re only going to drop you off a quarter mile away from the tour.

Stick to the Uber or driving yourself.

Arrival and Movie

When you first get to the visitor center, you’ll show your tour confirmation and go through an airport-style security section.

Then, before you know it, you’re in!

You can check out the café and shop, or you can save that until afterwards and head straight to the first part of the tour, the Storytelling Showcase.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

This is a look-in-your-own-time room with plenty of artifacts from movie studio history, including letters to and from famous studio execs, address books that include Walt Disney’s information, and a year-by-year rundown of how the Warner Brothers started the studio in the first place.

warner brothers studio tour entrance

When you’re ready, you make your way to the start of the official guided tour, the backlot tour, where you’ll get in a line similar to a theme park ride line and wait until it’s time for the next tour to depart.

Note: Despite the tour entry time on your confirmation page, tours do run continually and they will get you on the next one. Aim to arrive at the Studios so that you are entering the main visitor center 10-15 minutes before the time on your confirmation if you want to make sure you’re on that tour, or arrive at the visitor center at the time it says on your confirmation and then just know you’ll get on the next tour when you’ve made your way back to the starting area – they really do run frequently.

Warner Brother Studios Backlot Tour

The Backlot tour, for many people, is the best part of the Warner Brother Studios tour.

This is the main, guided, section, where you hop on the iconic little trams with your tour guide and driver and wind your way around the real, working Warner Brothers backlot.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Not only will you pass by the buildings that house the interior sets, but you’ll get to see many of the exterior sets that have been used for so many of your favorite movies and TV shows (and you may be surprised how easily they are to recycle and use again and again!)

One of the most fascinating sets is Warner Village, which is actually a collection of offices within houses that replicates a typical American street.

These are exterior sets only, in case you need a front yard or standard American street to film in.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Then you’ve got the Midwest Residential Street, which is where you’ll find the famous Gilmore Girls sets like the chapel, “Luke’s Diner” and that gazebo in the middle of the park.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

You’ll also see the brownstones, a classic New York style area, as well as the exterior of a school, a bank, and more industrial areas.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Along the way, your guide will point out many of the most important productions that have been filmed using these locations and, better yet, they’ll ask you ahead of time what your favorite Warner Brothers productions are so they can be sure to point out filming locations that you might be interested in.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

You’ll pass by actor’s trailers, often see real productions taking place (and in that case, you may be rerouted as they need all to be quiet on set!), and you will get down a couple of times from the vehicle and get to explore with your guide on foot.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

We saw production designers working on a set for a new scene for an upcoming Warner Brothers movie, as well as plenty of movie and TV crew who were milling around, eating their lunches and going from set to set.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

The energy here is electric.

Even when there isn’t filming taking place, you can feel that this is truly a place where magic is created and history is made.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

One of the most famous outdoor sets includes the fountain from the Friends intro.

This is the real fountain – it was filmed here, on the studio, not on location in New York.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

When you pass by the soundstages, where interior sets are built, you can take pictures unless the doors are up.

If the doors are up, there may be sets inside that you can see on the tour, but cannot be shared via photo with anyone else as it may be a spoiler for an upcoming episode or movie.

Oh, and did I mention celebrities?

Yes, those working actors show up to the Warner Brother Studios for work, and they have to walk around like the rest of the crew!

If you see someone you recognize, the etiquette is simply to keep your mouth shut and enjoy a spotting.

Don’t yell at them, run towards them, or do anything besides a kind wave if they happen to make eye contact.

It’s not because the actors themselves are stuck up or don’t want to meet fans, but with tours running continuously, it’s easy to make them feel like they’re an animal in a zoo and at the end of the day, they’re a professional who is at work, not roaming the streets of Beverly Hills, so let them get on with their day.

Self-Guided Warner Brothers Studio Tour

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

After your backlot tour is over, you’ll be taken by your driver to the self-guided portion of the tour, which takes you through more movie and TV history as well as some of the world’s most famous soundstages.

Some of the first exhibits you pass by include information on the actual movie-making process, from the writing to the casting to the costume design.

Friends Set and Café at Warner Brother Studios

Friends fans, listen up.

This is it.

The moment you’ve been waiting for.

Friends is one of the most-watched shows in the world, particularly in syndication and has been beloved by fans since it was on air from 1994 to 2004.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

While it was set in New York City, it was mostly filmed in Los Angeles at the studios, and the interior Central Perk set is now available for fans to see in-person.

Yes, the original Friends cafe set, almost as it was during filming, is there in Studio 48 in all of its glory, waiting for you to discover it.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

You won’t be allowed to roam around the real set too much because they don’t want it to be damaged, but you can get your picture taken on the famous couch!

If you want to spend more time in the Friends world, the Friends café at the end of the self-guided part of the tour is the perfect place to do that.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Grab a coffee, sit on the replica orange couch, and enjoy the replica sets including Monica’s apartment, Monica’s kitchen, and Chandler and Joey’s place!

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory is another popular show that has retained its sets for fans to view, and if you want, you can also get some of your pictures taken here pretending that you live in the same world as these characters.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Other Exhibits at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour

From the real Batmobile to a Harry Potter exhibit featuring some props to iconic superhero costumes, there really is something for everyone on this tour no matter your movie tastes.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Again, so much has been filmed here, from superhero movies to La La Land to Pretty Little Liars to Gilmore Girls to Fuller House to Growing Pains to some older movies that used the original exterior soundstages.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

Warner Brothers Studio Tour Gift Shop and Exit

When you exit into the main visitor area, you’ll get to experience the incredible gift shop, which is one of the best gift shops I’ve ever been in.

warner brothers studio tour hollywood

There’s a big emphasis on merch that you can only buy here (there is also Friends store connected to the Friends café for exclusive items).

I purchased some Gilmore Girls memorabilia, as well as some Warner Brothers studio merch including a T-shirt and coaster.

It’s hard to get out of there without buying something, so budget some money to make sure you can get a souvenir from one of your favorite movies or shows.

Is the Warner Brothers Studio Tour Hollywood Worth it?

The Warner Brothers Studio tour isn’t a cheap investment.

It can run a family of four into the hundreds of dollars, and the experience is about 2-3 hours long (though you can spend as much as you want after you exit the backlot tour and go to the self-guided interior section).

There are a lot of options of things to do with that money in LA, but this is the one studio tour that is an absolute must-do.

It’s the most iconic one, even better than Universal or Paramount, and the fact that it’s a working studio and you’re constantly looking for actors or being rerouted so you don’t get in the way of active filming brings an energy and excitement to the experience that makes it well worth the money involved.

Where to Eat Near Warner Bros Studio Tour: Dine with the Stars

If you’re finished at the tour and looking for somewhere to eat, head across the road to the Smoke House Restaurant .

With plush red booths and an old-timey Americana feel, this restaurant has been a favorite with celebrities over the years, including George Clooney who named his production company “Smokehouse Pictures” after the restaurant!

Prices are decent for LA and the pulled pork sandwich is one for the ages.

Pin for later!

Batman emblem in light at Warner Bros studio tour Hollywood review

Touring a TV and movie studio simply has to be on your travel itinerary when visiting Los Angeles for the first time. But which of the four major studios should you choose? Well, this first hand review will give you a rundown of what you can expect if you plump for the  Warner Bros  studio tour.

By the end of this unbiased review, you will know if Warner Bros is the perfect studio tour for you. On the other hand, you could end up certain you need to choose one of Sony, Paramount or Universal instead.

Hollywood movie studio tours are not cheap and take up a considerable portion of the day. Unless you’re a HUGE film fan, we’d recommend picking only one tour before spending the rest of your time and money on the other  awesome things to do and see in Los Angeles .

As avid movie fans ourselves (but not quite in the HUGE bracket) we chose Warner Bros because our research led us to believe it was the “purest” movie studio.

Each studio tour has its pros and cons which we’ll get into later, before giving you our opinion on whether Warner Bros is worth the money.

Let’s find out if Warner Bros is your golden ticket!

Warner Bros Studio Factfile

How To Get To Warner Bros Studio Tour In Hollywood

Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood Sign

Warner Bros Studio tour is located in Burbank, Los Angeles. The easiest way to find it on a map is by looking to the North West corner of Griffith Park.

LA is huge and traffic is renowned for being congested. If you have your own vehicle and don’t mind driving across the city, there is an underground parking garage right beneath the WB building.

No matter if your hotel is in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills or Hollywood, your most efficient route is to drive up Cahuenga Boulevard. Take the right turn at Barham Boulevard which transitions into W. Olive Ave. Turn right onto West Riverside Drive and right onto Warner Boulevard. Follow signs for tour parking.

Note : Driving in LA is not a lot of fun so consider arriving by other means if you’re not the most confident driver!

If you don’t have your own vehicle or you’d prefer to leave it parked at the hotel, you’ll need to use the metro and/or Uber or Lyft.

  • Cheapest option  – Metro B Line (Red) stops at Universal City/Studios. This is the closest you can get by Metro and your options are either walk 2.4 miles or take a Lyft/Uber.
  • Most convenient option  – Simply have a Lyft/Uber pick you up wherever you are in LA. But this will cost more!

Getting Around The Studio Complex

Tour carts for 10 guests at Warner Bros studio

The tour is well organized, they’ve been doing it a long time and have cracked the ‘guest arrival efficiency’ code. You will wait in a lounge type area for your designated time slot before beginning the tour.

A brief welcome movie in an intimate cinema setting introduces you to the day ahead, then it’s straight on with meeting your guide and hitting the road.

You will be transported around the Warner Bros studio tour by 9-10 seater electric powered carts. However, there are plenty of walking parts where you can stretch your legs so no need to worry about being cramped up for a few hours.

You are not allowed to wander off on a rogue mission to find famous people and the guides will keep a close eye on your group.

It is important to remember this is a working studio, which means there could be several tv shows and movies being filmed at the time of your tour. Correct etiquette is non-negotiable!

Warner Bros Studio Tour FAQ’s

Carts around fake facade buildings in Los Angeles

How Long is the Warner Bros Studio Tour?

Expect the tour to take approximately 3 hours. That includes 2 hours guided tour and 1 hour self guided at Studio 48 at the end of your tour.

Can You Take Pictures on the Warner Bros Tour?

You can take photos but only at certain allocated times. Your guide will inform you at every stop and in between whether or not photography is permitted but video is not permitted at any point of the tour.

Which Movies Are Associated With Warner Bros?

We can’t list every film from such a historic and comprehensive catalogue but some more recent movies include The Matrix Trilogy, The Hobbit (and LOTR under New Line Cinema), Batman (including Dark Knight Trilogy), Harry Potter, Inception, Sherlock Holmes, The Hangover, 300, Twister, The Departed, Mad Max, Oceans 8, 11, 12 & 13 … and the distinguished list goes on!

What Is Included In The Warner Bros Studio Tour?

So now you know how to get there, let’s dive into exactly what you can expect from this world famous studio tour.

One of the most important things to remember from this review is no two tours are the same. Each time slot throughout the day will plot a different route through the studio grounds.

That means what we saw on our tour will not be identical to what you will see on yours!

Backlots & Soundstages

Warner Bros studio tour backlots street facade

Warner Bros is home to 10 backlots and 30 sound stages. But what are backlots and soundstages exactly?

Backlots are permanent exterior buildings used for outdoor scenes in movies and tv shows. Think the old west or New York buildings.

One example is the alleyway where Tobey Maguire hangs upside down as Spiderman to kiss Mary-Jane. That same alley and brick building surrounding has also been used in other major blockbuster movies.

Once widely used in cinema, the use of backlots quickly diminished as movies began shooting with actors physically on location and as CGI technology advanced.

Sound stages (or just Stages) are huge sound-proof warehouse like buildings where many of the major movies film scenes that are not on location. Entire sets are constructed inside these buildings and can stay in place for as long as necessary.

The entire series of Friends was filmed inside studio 24 and Saito’s castle scenes from Inception were filmed inside Stage 16. We won’t give any more away!

Backlot at movie studio in Hollywood California

On the outside of every Stage building is a plaque showing each of the movies and TV shows filmed inside that particular Stage.

You will be able to go inside and walk around one Stage to view the set of a currently running TV show.

On our visit we went inside the full sized apartment of ‘Lucifer’.  We were also told that Denzel Washington was on the premises shooting scenes for a movie.

Old Movie Props

Old movie props might not sound exciting but when you get there you will see why it is one of the best stops on the Warner Bros studio tour.

The last samurai movie props in Hollywood

Remember the 2 faded red leather chairs from the Matrix? The neon Comedy Club sign from Joker? How about the armor worn by Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe in the Last Samurai?

All of these and (so much!) more can be found inside the prop storage building. We were even lucky enough to see the building next door with its shutter open.

What was inside?

Only Phoebe’s taxi from Friends and Austin Powers’ Shaguar!

Austin powers car and phoebe's taxi from friends in garage on movie studio lot

You are guaranteed to see props from some of your favorite movies when you walk around this building.

Many will be a surprise because who really knows which movie studio produced their favorite movies?!

DC Universe Exhibit

Wonderwoman costume Warner Bros studio tour Hollywood

Any superhero fans out there? At Warner Bros it’s best if you’re team DC and not team Marvel!

One of your first stops will be to walk around DC’s Aquaman and Wonderwoman exhibits. The majority of displays are costume design and accessories, such as Diana Prince’s Lasso and Arthur Curry’s armored suit.

Aquaman armored suit in exhibit at movie studio in Los Angeles

Although not overly exciting, this part of the tour does allow you to appreciate other elements of what makes movies so engaging.

Who ever looks to see who the costume designer was in the end credits?

But when you stop to think about it – costumes, weapons, design etc are vital to every movie!

Hmm, Mark has some work to do in the gym to emulate Jason Momoa holding the trident.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter characters costumes at Warner Bros studio tour in Hollywood Los Angeles

Another stop on the Warner Bros studio tour is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts. You will walk a one way route around all things Hogwarts, Dumbledores Army, Newt Scamander and Grindelwald.

Signatures of all actors who played Dumbledores army in Harry Potter

Now, we implore you not to get too excited, this is not like the Harry Potter tour in London where you can see full sets.  We wouldn’t recommend choosing Warner Bros based solely on your love for the Harry Potter franchise!

What you do get to see is authentic props like Dobby the House Elf and the sorting hat, plus real costumes worn by most of the main characters.

All of your favorite wizards outfits are on display and it is kind of fun to imagine the actors being there in person … o r putting on one of the costumes yourself, picking up a wand and shouting ‘Expelliarmus’.

However, the most interesting part for us personally was being able to see some of the original storyboards. It’s fascinating to see how the drawings compare to the end product on screen.

Old Batmobile to combat Mr Freeze in Batman and Robin

Maybe you were wondering why we didn’t mention Batman in the earlier DC Universe section? Well, that’s because there’s an entire Batcave dedicated to the caped crusader!

Dark Knight trilogy batted on display at Warner Bros studio tour exhibit

Personally, we loved the Christopher Nolan / Christian Bale Dark Knight trilogy, so getting to see the tumbler and Batpod was pretty cool!

The room is very dark and looks more like a strange car showroom with purple lights but information plaques do have individual lights for reading.

Batman Cowl worn by christian bale as batman in the dark knight trilogy

Also inside the Batcave are replicas of the Neutron Bomb from DKR, and older Batmobiles like the Bathammer from Clooney, Keaton and Kilmer eras.

Even the Batsuit Christian Bale wore is on display!

Mark collecting an Oscar in studio 48 at Warner Bros studio tour

Stage is 48 is called Script to Screen, which means you get an insight into what happens at pre-production, production and post-production stages of making a movie.

This is another aspect of filmmaking that often gets overlooked by the average movie watcher.

But consider editing, sound, casting, green screens for CGI etc – a movie cannot be made without these elements.

This section of the Warner Bros studio tour is self guided and interactive. The best thing you can do is ask questions and explore every part of production.

You could rush through in 10 minutes or easily spend an hour looking at storyboards and creating costumes for a movie. It is the first time you are able to slow down and read everything.

You can also ride Harry Potters Firebolt broom or Batmans Batpod with a green screen behind. A guide will instruct you to ‘turn left’ or ‘cast a spell’ as you watch yourself on a monitor.

This is of course being filmed and you can buy a video souvenir but they are not cheap and we personally did not buy one.

It’s hard to get into character when you don’t have the full Batsuit on shouting WHERE’S THE TRIGGER at Bane in your deepest and harshest voice (with a peg on your nose)!

For us, the best (and only real unmissable) part of Studio 48 is the sound engineer insight called ‘art of sound’.  A guide will explain to you how sound was composed in space for the movie Gravity, it’s a truly fascinating and intriguing part of the tour.

Oh, and you can hold a shiny Oscar, like Mark winning his Best Actor award from the 1950’s.

Central Perk

Central Perk set full size at movie studio in Hollywood

Fans of TV show Friends will enjoy the entire authentic set of Central Perk cafe.

You can take a seat on the famous sofa, order coffee from imaginary Gunther and maybe even pretend that you are also being paid US$ 1 million per episode!

Mark and Kristen sitting at the famous sofa in central perk from friends tv show

With a total of 236 episodes, Friends has to be regarded as one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time, right?! Classic feel good background noise at worst, engaging emotional rollercoaster at best!

It is one of the only American sitcoms that used to get replayed over and over again growing up in the UK but is still widely adored.

Netflix even paid over US$ 100 million for rights to stream re-runs between 2014 and 2019. Not bad for a show that finished all the way back in 2004. #timeless

Big Bang Theory

Big Bang Theory staircase and elevator studio prop set in Hollywood

Moving swiftly onto another show where you can imagine earning a cool million per episode is one of America’s favorites: Big Bang Theory.

Big Bang is the longest running multi camera sitcom in history with almost 280 episodes across 12 seasons.

Kristen sitting on sofa of Big Bang theory apartment set

Imagine how much time each of the main actors playing Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, Penny and Howard spent filming in front of live audiences at Warner Bros!

Much like the Central Perk set, Big Bang sets Caltech Cafe, the Elevator and Apartment 4a can all be explored as part of the tour in Studio 48.

Warner Bros studio tour guide explaining about the backlot set and which movies were filmed there

We’ll take a wild guess you consider yourself a bit of a TV and movie buff? We thought so too, but we were wrong.

Our tour guide set the benchmark for being considered a bona fide movie buff. Shout out to Erik, this guy lived for it!

These giant world beating movie studios want to give the best possible experience for those who travel from around the world to get behind the scenes of their favorite TV shows and movies.

The guides have to be fantastic, it is as simple as that.

Our advice to you is speak up whenever you have a question about anything. Ask away and your guide will enjoy responding!

Warner Bros Studio Tour Price

Stage 28 at Warner Bros studio movie tour backlot and stages

Warner Bros offers what is widely regarded as the best pure movie lovers tour out of all the studios in LA. We didn’t tour the other studio so can’t give a definitive agree or disagree on that claim.

If you truly love TV and movies, the price here won’t matter too much because you’re going to pay it anyway!

An adult ticket for the Warner Bros studio tour will set you back a fairly hefty sum of US$ 69 .

Which is the Best Studio Tour in LA?

Costumes of Neo and Trinity from the Matrix on exhibit in Warner Bros studio tour Hollywood

Now you know what to expect and the price of Warner Bros, it’s important you know the most pertinent information about each of the competition.

There are 4 major movie studios to choose between in Los Angeles.

What are the most important aspects for you to consider when choosing which studio you want to visit?

Is it price, which movies they made, location (ease of access), what you will see or something else entirely?

We created this Warner Bros, Sony, Paramount and Universal comparison table to look at pros, cons and differences of each tour and to help you determine if Warner Bros studio tour is the one for you.

Warner Bros vs Sony vs Paramount vs Universal Studio Tours

Is warner bros studio tour worth your time and money.

Warner Bros is worth your money as long as you have some interest in Harry Potter, Batman, DC universe characters, friends or Big Bang Theory. Consider choosing one of the other studios if none of that sounds exciting!

Let’s take a quick look at what we liked, didn’t like and how much we would pay for this tour.

What Was Hot

  • The sheer scale and magnitude of the Warner Bros studio grounds.
  • We thought it would be more about sets and backlots but thoroughly enjoyed the costumes, props and production aspects.
  • Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the industry and always had informative answers to questions.
  • The tour is longer than any other studio offers (for the basic package).
  • Parking the car was not a problem thanks to the multi-story underground parking lot.

What Was Not

  • Tours leave every 30 minutes from 8.30am – 3pm so it can at times feel a little like you’re on a conveyor belt of tourists. You will run into a number of other tour groups throughout.
  • The tour slightly lacked a personal touch overall and would benefit from a few freebies or take homes.
  • Paying for parking adds a further US$ 15 to the overall ticket price and we think that is a bit harsh as tickets are already expensive enough.
  • In certain exhibits (such as DC Universe and Wizarding World) the tour group moves too quickly which makes it difficult to read all information boards.

It is definitely worth mentioning the GO Los Angeles card for those of you who intend to do more tourist attractions on your visit to Los Angeles.

You can seriously save money with this card but only if you get busy!

You have two options:

  • Explorer Pass – 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 ATTRACTIONS (value & savings increase the more attractions you do). Click to see options .
  • All Inclusive Pass – 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7 DAY pass (value & savings increase the more days you do). Click to see options .

Warner Bros studio tour is included in all pass options. You could potentially save a substantial amount of money by including this tour with others in Los Angeles.

What Is A Fair Price?

We personally thought the Warner Bros studio tour was worth US$ 69 each. We probably would have paid up to around 80-90 dollars but any more and we would have written it off.

It’s not every day you get to go behind the scenes of a movie studio, especially when you’re a big fan of movies.

You have to set a reference point, like paying 10 bucks for a beer at a Dodgers ball game or US$ 100+ on a meal out in Beverly Hills and entrance to Warner Bros won’t seem so high!

If you love movies and have a morning or afternoon spare on your Los Angeles itinerary, we think the Warner Bros studio tour could be the one for you.

It certainly didn’t disappoint us.

They tell you to get there a half hour early, our tour time was 1100, we waited until after 1140 for the video to begin

Thanks for sharing your experience, Terry. The FAQ’s page on the Warner Bros Hollywood Tour site does state “plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your tour” so you can find a parking spot, check in and pass through the security checks before your time slot. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Warner Bros Studio Tour London: Harry Potter Deluxe Tour

Harry Potter has been a part of my pop culture life for over 20 years, and I have successfully made Elizabeth a huge fan, too. I knew that going to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London to see the real sets, costumes, and props from the Harry Potter movies would be a must-do on our trip to Ireland and England. The Harry Potter Studio tour is extremely popular and sells out very early. It sells out so early, in fact, that the only option left during our trip was the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour, a VIP experience at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.

No trip to London in your future? That’s okay! Find out more about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando.

What Is The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour?

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

The Warner Bros. Studio London Deluxe Tour is a VIP experience that provides a different experience than the self-led tours. The Harry Potter deluxe tour gave us a private tour guide for 2 hours within the exhibits, a full meal in a private seating area, vouchers for Butterbeer or Butterbeer ice cream, a complete guidebook, 4 photos and 1 video for each ticket holder, and then access back into the tour where we could explore the exhibits more in-depth on our own. By far the best part of the Harry Potter deluxe tour was our guide, Joe. There were 10 of us in the deluxe tour group, and Joe did an excellent job of sharing fascinating anecdotes about what went on behind-the-scenes during the filming of all 8 Harry Potter movies.

The VIP Experience – Value of a Tour Guide

Each Harry Potter Deluxe Tour guide is well educated on everything associated with the filming of Harry Potter from characters, costumes, props, and sets to fun trivia. The two guides we spoke to were both huge Harry Potter fans and it really showed in how they presented the information. We learned details about the movies, and it made me appreciate everything I saw on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London even more.

Elizabeth asked a lot of questions of our tour guide, and he impressed us by knowing the answers right away. One of the most interesting things she asked Joe was how they made Madame Maxime appear so large. The answer was fascinating! The actors for Madame Maxime and Hagrid both had a body double who wore an animatronic head to make them even taller. Madame Maxime was a 7’1” basketball player, and Hagrid was a 6’10” rugby player.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour guides lead you through the exhibits and sets. The guides are allowed to go into the displays and even handle some of the props. This allowed us an up close look at the amazing detail in everything associated with the films. When we went to the potions classroom we could see all of the potions textbooks have lovely hard covers. While filming a scene there, the director thought it odd that all the students would have closed textbooks on the desks. Because of that director, an entire book of potions was written for the scene. On our deluxe tour our guide Joe went into the display and showed us the beautiful hand lettered potions textbook with a foreword, full textbook of chapters, and even a bibliography inside.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

Thanks to our tour guide we also saw up close one of Harry Potter’s scars made for the film and Bellatrix Lestrange’s teeth. Did you know that they made thousands of the scar for Daniel Radcliffe, as one would expect of a young actor, he kept picking at them. Once they even had to re-shoot an entire scene because there was a visible fingerprint on the scar.

Here are some of my other favorite bits of trivia from the Harry Potter Studio Deluxe Tour:

  • All external shots of Hogwarts were filmed with an extremely detailed model. Each miniscule brick is hand painted in the massive scale model. There are even miniature furnishings in some rooms to make them look real as the camera flies past.
  • It took one of the graphic designers three months to hand draw the Marauders Map. Unfortunately, right after completion her toddler decided to color it. It then took her another four months to create an even more intricate Marauders Map which is the one we are all familiar with.
  • Creating Dobby the house elf’s appearance had been difficult for the creative department. They couldn’t quite find the right inspiration. One day, a staff member brought her dog to work. The German Shepherd’s big eyes and floppy ears were perfect inspiration for the Dobby we know from the films.
  • Although there are a lot of animatronics and practical effects, Dobby is all computer generated. Dobby was just a puppet on green sticks to help actors know where to look during filming. The only “real” Dobby is the one that Harry cradles in his arms after his great sacrifice.
  • The beds in the boys dormitory are tiny! They only built the Gryffindor boys dormitory set once, and the beds were a only a good fit at the very beginning of filming.

Harry Potter Deluxe Tour Procedure

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

Once you arrive at Warner Bros. Studio you will check in for the deluxe tour. Your tour guide will then come out to greet you, escort you to security screening, and then into the lobby of the studio. We arrived early, because I did not want to chance being late. Our guide, Joe, covered the procedures and what to expect on the tour. He then told us we could look through the store and use the restroom while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive.

Our tour started right on time despite one family not being present. The Harry Potter Studio tour starts the same way for everyone whether self-guided or a deluxe tour. There is a holding room with a brief introduction on how the Harry Potter books got the green light to become films. Next you are led into a small movie theater and shown some clips from the movies. Then you move to a large set (but I won’t spoil the surprise). After this first set is where your Harry Potter Deluxe Tour really begins.

Your guide will walk you through the many exhibits. Halfway through the tour you stop to place a meal order. When we told the cafe staff about Elizabeth’s food allergy, they were able to research ingredients and provide us some options. Our only food allergy disappointment was that we could not find out if Butterbeer was safe. The formula is secret, and the only allergen information is a sheet showing safety for top allergens, a list that doesn’t include corn.

After placing your meal order, the second half of your Harry Potter Deluxe Tour begins. There is no set script for the guide, so they each provide a special flair to the tour. We learned tons of fun and interesting facts about the movies. The two-hour tour seemed to fly by, and we were disappointed for it to end.

Once the guided tour was over, we were led to a roped off dining area where our food was brought to our table. Don’t fret if you think two hours is too little time to see everything at the studio. After eating, the guide will allow you special re-entry into the tour. As a special perk of the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour your guide escorts you through a special hallway. This special access allows you to explore the Great Hall in between sets of traditional tour groups before you resume the self-guided portion of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London was high on my bucket list and taking the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour made made our visit informative and fun! #harrypotter #warnerbrosstudio #london

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Deluxe Tour

  • Book Your Tour Early – Booking early gives you the best options for tour times. Our deluxe tour was at 3 pm, so we had limited time to spend exploring on our own after the guided portion was over. A morning deluxe tour would give you more time for the self-guided portion.
  • Arrive To Warner Bros. Studio London early – The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour will begin on time, with or without you
  • Use Your Photo Vouchers – There are 1 video and 3 professional photo opportunities in the studio tour. Your vouchers allow each person 4 digital/printed photos and 1 video. Have fun taking goofy pictures! We laughed so hard when each of us was making our flying broomstick videos.
  • Redeem The Voucher For Butterbeer – The Harry Potter Deluxe Tour voucher entitles each person a Butterbeer or Butterbeer ice cream in a souvenir plastic cup or dish. We tried both. The Butterbeer tastes exactly like the traditional drink at Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando . The ice cream was a thumbs-down in our family, but I know some people like it.
  • Get Your Guidebook – As part of your Harry Potter Deluxe Studio Tour you receive a souvenir glossy, color guidebook with tons of fun facts about the movies.

Getting to Warner Bros. Studios London

Warner Bros. Studio is located in Leavesden which is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) outside London. If you are comfortable with city public transportation in general this is an easy trip to navigate. You will need to take the West Midland Rail train from Euston Station in London to Watford Junction. Once you arrive in Watford Junction you exit the train station and follow the signs to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London shuttle bus. This air-conditioned double decker bus cost us £2.50 per person for a round trip and brought us directly to the studio.

Find out more from Warner Bros. Studio London about transportation , including self-park options.

Final Thoughts

Although more than I had originally budgeted, I left our Harry Potter Studio Deluxe Tour feeling extremely glad we booked it. Having a private guide to share their knowledge and answer our questions was invaluable. I got much more out of the tour by having our expert guide, relative to just perusing displays ourselves. After adding in the cost of drinks, meals, a souvenir guide, and photos to the general admission tour price the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour was a better value than it first seemed.

The fascinating details and stories our guide shared with us and seeing props up close was a special experience. I never dreamed I would see the Great Hall empty and stand alone by the gigantic doors into Hogwarts. The tour guide, special experiences, and the wonderful service from everyone we met made the Warner Bros. Studio London Deluxe Tour feel well worth the additional cost. Even Mr. Smart Mouse, who to my utter shame is not a Harry Potter fan, said that the tour was fabulous and made the experience more interesting for him.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour – Is It Worth It?

Los Angeles is known as the city of the stars! Home to celebrities and numerous studios, this city is every movie-buff’s dream. Me over here – the self-proclaimed movie-buff was ecstatic to book a trip to the one and only Los Angeles. And before I even purchased my flights, I knew a studio tour had to be on my itinerary. I’m just going to come right out and say this: no trip to Los Angeles is complete without taking the Warner Bros. Studio Tour.

warner bros. studio tour

Why the Warner Bros. Studio Tour?

Perhaps I’m dating myself here, but growing up I always looked forward to watching Bugs Bunny on weekends. It was a childhood memory that has stayed with me into adulthood. But that wasn’t the only reason I wanted to check out the Warner Bros.Tour. Some of my favourite movies growing up were a Warner Bros. production: The Goonies, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Free Willy, Little Giants, the Harry Potter series and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – to name a few. And then there were the TV shows that got me through my childhood, teenage years and into adulthood: Full House, Step-by-Step, ER, the O.C., Gilmore Girls, Friends, and Gossip Girl… If I was going to be in LA, I had to see behind the scenes.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Experience

If you’re looking for a behind-the-scenes Hollywood movie experience, Warner Bros. is definitely that tour. We purchased our tickets in advance online, and selected a mid-morning tour time. I actually liked registering for a specific  time because it made it easier to plan our day around our visit. The studio is located in Burbank, California a short drive from Hollywood and close to Griffith Park. Tours are fairly small – as everyone piles onto a golf cart, so we were a group of about 12 people, making it easier to keep track of everyone and move through the studio easily.

warner bros. studio tour

5 Reasons to Take the Warner Bros. Studio Tour:

  • They have small tour sizes : Like I mentioned above, the Warner Bros. Studio tour groups were small with approximately 10-12 people on each tour. This made it easy to keep the group together and ask questions to our guide along the way.
  • See and learn about history in the making: The Warner Bros. Studio lot has so much history! As we walked through the streets our guide told us about different movies and shows that were shot onsite, famous actors who filmed there and some interesting stories. The studio dates back to 1918, so you can just imagine how much it’s grown over the years. The tour even drives by the various sound stages for popular shows and you can see the plaques for everything that filmed in that studio.
  • You get to go behind the scenes: We were able to go into some of these buildings – most of which were facades with not much (if anything) on the other side of the doors. Our guide took us to the set of the Big Bang Theory (sadly we couldn’t take photos) and I got to go to Stars Hollow! As we drove through the lot we also saw some really interesting sets – like the haunted house from the movie “It” being dismantled.
  • There’s lots of variety: On this tour you’ll get to see the back-lot exterior sets, a sound stage (depends on what’s filming that day), the prop department, the archive, the car vault and their outdoor “nature” areas. The tour ends at Central Perk where you get to go on-set at the popular Friends coffee shop. We especially liked visiting the car vault and the archive – there were so many interesting movie props and displays to look at. The Harry Potter props were very neat to see in person, especially the sorting hat that sorted me into Hufflepuff!
  • You have to visit a studio if you’re in LA: Going to LA without visiting a movie studio is like going to a brewery and not trying the beer. We did two studio tours, and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour was by far our favourite because it was more interactive (than Universal Studios).

warner bros. studio tour

Know Before You Go – 7 Things to Know About the Warner Bros. Studio Tour:

  • Arrive approximately 20 minutes before your scheduled tour time as you have to park and go through security.
  • You’ll need photo identification when you check in.
  • This tour isn’t for kids under the age of 8. You must be over the age of 8 and minors under 18 need an adult to accompany them.
  • Check their website about what you can and cannot bring: large bags and video cameras are on the list to leave at home.
  • Book your tour in advance if you can. This is a popular tour and can sell out quickly depending on the day.
  • There is moderate waking required – wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Parking is available across the street for $12. It’s a small lot, so arrive early just in case.

warner bros. studio tour

So if you’re in LA, I would highly recommend a tour of the Warner Bros. Studios. This review was based solely on my own experience! I didn’t receive any compensation or discount to review this tour. And even still – I think you need to go. If I go back to LA in the future, I’ll probably add this to my list again. Check out my 1-Week LA Itinerary for trip planning help.

Have you been to Warner Bros.? If so, what was your favourite part of the visit?

  • Age restriction – Children under the age of 8 are not permitted to visit the studio tour and children aged 8 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Book in advance – This is a popular studio tour in Los Angeles so make sure to book your tickets ahead of time.

  • Photography – You are not permitted to take videos during the tour but photographs can be taken in certain areas; your tour guide will let you know when this is allowed.
  • What to wear – There is no dress code for the studio tour but we recommend you wear comfortable footwear and Dres for the weather. The tour is spread across 110 acres of a back lot, meaning quite a bit of walking is included. If it is sunny, make sure to bring sunglasses and a hat as a large portion of the tour is outside.
  • Places to eat – There are a few places to get drinks, snacks, and food whilst at the studios. At the start of the Tour, in the Welcome Center, you will find a Starbucks which is open from 8.30am to 5pm. There is also a Warner Bros Studio Plaza Cafe if you are looking for a proper meal but note this is only open 8am to 2.30pm and is closed on the weekend. During the tour, there is also a cute replica of Central Perk, where you can pick up Friends-themed bakery items along with branded Central Perk Coffee.
  • Speak to the guide – If there is a particular set or TV series you love, make sure to let your guide know. As long as the set isn’t being used, guides will do everything they can to make sure you get to see your favorite sets.

Other Los Angeles Studio Tours

Warner Brothers Studio Tour isn’t the only backlot-style tour you can take in Hollywood. Some other great options include:

  • Paramount Pictures Studio Tour – Paramount offers 3 different tours that range from 2 to 4.5 hours long. This is a very active film set meaning you can see some sets as long as they are not being used at the time. Highlights also include Forrest Gump’s bench and the Bronson Gate.
  • Sony Pictures Studio Tour – Home to the sound stages of The Wizard of Oz and Spider-man this walking studio tour costs $45 and takes around 2 hours. This is the cheapest studio tour on this list.
  • Universal Studios Tour – As a popular part of their amusement park, Universal Studios Hollywood includes a backlot tour that takes around an hour. Here you will see attractions based on King Kong 360, Bates Motel, Fast & The Furious and Jaws.
  • Adventures By Disney: Disney backstage – This is a more expensive package and tour but the package includes meals and accommodation at the Lows Hollywood Hotel and Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa. This Disney Adventure includes a tour of the Walt Disney Studios and Archives, an Imagineering tour, a Hollywood walking tour and a tour of the Jim Henson Company. However, this week-long package costs a whopping $3399 and includes a VIP Disneyland ticket.

That's so cool! I didn't know everything was being recorded at the same place... Do you know if "How I met your mother" set is also at the "Warner Brothers Studio"? I would die to see it live!

Thanks so much for sharing it, seriously... I'm gonna share it on my Facebook account! It just surprised me so much!

Hey Marina, Yeah it is amazing how much is filmed there! I am not sure about How I met your mother,I don't think so as they didn't mention it!

Janine Good

How lovely! I hope to get to Los Angeles soon as I truly love being near the rich and famous! I love the Daffy Duck statue and the fact you got to see Ellen's parking spot. Such neat nostalgia in a destination.

Warner Bros Studio Tour, Hollywood Review

Warner Bros. Studio Hollywood is one of Los Angeles’s oldest and most iconic Movie Studios. Home to countless classic and iconic films from the last century along with a host of cutting-edge and modern masterpieces and some really cult TV Shows. The studios are a place where your favorite TV and Movie scenes came to life! Warner Bros. Offer Studio tours of the legendary Sets, Sound Stages, and Props that are found inside the Movie lots and buildings that make up the Studio.

Warner Bros. is not the only studio in the area offering tours and while visiting a studio is often on most people’s to-do lists in L.A, they are quite expensive. So we take a look at the tours and see if they are good value in our Warner Bros Studio Tour, Hollywood, Review. We take a look at the ticket options and where to bag some bargains. Before telling you what you can expect from the tour and give you a few tips and tricks to get the best out of your visit!

Warner Bros Studio Tour, Hollywood, Review 2023

Warner Bros. Studio Hollywood Tours

  • Studio Tour: $ 69 Adult – $ 59 Child (8-12) – 2+ Hours
  • Classic Tour: $ 69 Adult – $ 59 Child (8-12) – 2+ Hours
  • Deluxe Tour: $ 295 (8yrs+) – 5+ Hours

The Studio tour is the most popular tour and the one we recommend. The Classics tour is for fans of the older movies shot at the Studio, the Golden age ers movies. While these sets will be pointed out on the standard tour the focus is on more modern films and TV shows.

The Deluxe Tour is really just more of the same. Smaller groups and more time to focus on what you find most interesting, Along with a few locations not on the Standard tour such as the costume department and the Property Department. You also get lunch in the Fine Dining Room (but don’t expect Fine Dining!)

It is A lot of money and really you do not get that much more for the price, the Standard tour is so comprehensive there is little missed off. 5-6 Hours is also a long time to commit to the studio. We tend to find the Standard tour suite 95% of people and is the tour we most recommend. Only die-hard movie buffs need to think about the Deluxe Tour.

Warner Bros. Studio Tours are timed slots so you need to know when you are going to arrive. This is not set in stone and a little leeway is fine. The system is just designed to keep the flow steady throughout the day with no HIUGE queues and the studios getting rammed.

These are working studios and a huge influx of guests could disrupt the filming schedule, besides there are only so meant buggies and Guides.

When you book your tickets you simply choose when you want to visit the studio. If you are using an attraction pass (see below) then you can simply call or Email the Studio to book in a time slot.

It is worth noting that the Studio, despite bearing the name Hollywood, is, like most Studios today, not in Hollywood but over in Burbank .

Where to get Cheap Tickets?

Really discount tickets are pretty hard to come by for the tour. The most common ticket resellers do not carry the tickets. It seems Warner Bros keep a monopoly on the tours meaning you have few choices but to pay full price. However, we find the best way to get hugely discounted entry is by purchasing an attraction pass.

Go Los Angeles Pass

The Go Los Angles Pass is a brilliant addition to any Los Angeles Vacation. The pass is packed with top attractions and tours and can bring a whole new lease of life to your trip. We really loved using the pass and found it completely made our last trip to L.A. The Warner Bros. Studio tour is included in the attractions and the pass can save over 50% if used properly.

  • 1 Day Pass  – Adult – $ 92  ($ 92  per day) Child – $ 72
  • 2 Day Pass  – Adult – $ 141  ($ 70  per day) Child – $ 112
  • 3 Day Pass*  – Adult – $ 238 ($ 79  per day) Child – $ 214
  • 5 Day Pass * – Adult – $ 307  ($ 61  per day) Child – $ 269
  • 7 Day Pass * – Adult – $ 360 ($ 51  per day) Child – $ 318

* includes Universal Studios

Take a look at our full review here, but this is our top pick for saving money on Warner Bros. Even with just the one-day pass it is not hard to save a heap of money by just choosing two attractions from the list! The longer the pass the more you save and with 3,5, and 7-Day passes you get Universal Studios included as well!

Go California Explorer Pass

The Go California Explorer Pass is another option but we do not find this pass as good value as the Go L.A Pass. The selection is limited and only covers the high-ticket attractions meaning the pass is fairly expensive. But you can read our review to see if it suits you.

Go City Pass Discount Code – We also have regular discount codes available for the Go City Pass’s above, so check out our discount page to see if you could save even more?

Starline Tours

Starline Tours, one of Los Angeles’s oldest Tour companies offers two options:

  • Warner Bros. Studio Tour Discount Tickets & Transportation – $104 Adult – $94 Child (8-11yr)
  • Warner Bros. & Stars Homes Tour Packages – $139 Adult – $119 Child (8-11yr)

The First option is fairly poor as it is not really discounted as you have to pay $35 for transportation. If you have no way of getting to the studios this may be reasonable, but you could get an Uber there from most places for less!

The second option is more appealing. Transportation is included as is the tour again but it is still $25 and the tours are not really discounted. We love the Celebrity Homes Tours but these are included in the Go Los Angeles Pass and with that pass starting at only $92 it offers FAR better value.

Parking at the Studios is charged at £15 a car, which is a little frustrating when the entry is $69. The lot is close by and after arriving you simply head into the studios to start your tour.

After check-in, you are assigned a tour guide and will join a small group of around 16 people and led to the Tour Buggy. These small electric carts are a great way to get about and let the guides pull up at certain locations to allow you to explore.

Tour Experience

The Warner Bros Studio Tour, Hollywood is a far more authentic experience than the Universal Studio Tours where you are taken around the actual sets and filming locations in and around the Warner Bros. Studio. The sets and sound stages all have a far more “real” and in-use feeling as you are guided around in a large golf-buggy style vehicle, as opposed to the huge multi-carriage “truck” in Universal. The Universal Tours feel a lot more like a “ride” whereas the Warner Bros feels very much like you are exploring a living and breathing motion picture studio.

This is mainly because that is exactly what is happening and many of the people you see coming and going are engaged in the complex process of actually shooting Movies and TV Series. Our last visit saw us witness several scenes being shot from high-profile franchises and offered a real glimpse into the world of film production. The tour comprises of a few different parts.

First, you take a look at the backlots and outdoor filming locations, next you take a tour of the indoor soundstages where some of the highest-profile TV shows and films have been shot. Then you are taken to the exhibits and archives to see a selection of actual movie Props before the final Sound Studio (Stage 48) which is custom set up as an interactive experience to finish the tour off.

The Tour starts off in the Back-Lots of the studio. These are the outside sets that have been used in countless scenes from the big and little screen. This is probably the most interesting part of the tour as you are shown iconic sets from classic films and modern TV productions. You get a bit bombarded with information as the list of things shot on all the different sets is reeled off by your tour guide.

Warner Bros Jungle

The Jungle is an area of the Studio where any scenes are shot that requires a remote jungle or woodland scene. There are several remote cabins and a Lagoon used for the ER finale. The area is really unassuming and it’s quite amazing the kinds of scenes that can be made with just a thin veneer of foliage!

– Pretty Little Liars – Heart of Dixie – Muppets – Million Dollar Baby – E.R. – True Blood –

Hennessy Street

Warner Bros Hennessy Street

One of the oldest sets in the Studio and the setting for thousands of scenes for film and TV over the years. The set is based around a classic U.S city block often New York but can be any major Downtown U.S City.

– E.R. – Batman – Pretty Little Liars – Gremlins – Annie – Minority Report –

Midwest Street

Warner Bros Lost Boys Church

Our Favourite stop with many iconic building facades such as the Church from lost boys, The Geller House from Friends, and the Redwood High School from Pretty little liars. The street is your quintessential Small Town USA town square and could be used for just about anywhere you can imagine, and pretty much has.

– Friends – Gremlins – Pretty Little Liars – Greece (Live) – Growing Pains – Shameless – The Waltons –

New York Street

Warner Bros New York Street

New York Street is a typical downtown New York City Block complete with diners, Court Houses, Brownstone Town Houses, and even an L-Track (Chicago). On our last trip, we had limited access to this area as it was closed off for filming. We witnessed a scene being shot for Lethal Weapon involving a female stunt woman being pulled into a window by one of the star actors!

 Live Scene

– Blade Runner – Shameless – Friends – Lethal Weapon – House Of Wax – Argo – E.R –

Sound Stages

Live Ellen Show

The Tour then moves onto the Sound Stages. These buildings have been home to some of the most iconic Movie scenes ever shot and some of the biggest TV Shows as well. Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Ellen, Gilmore Girls to name a few along with Dunkirk, The Dark Night Trilogy, The Goonies, La La Land.

While the list of films is incredible, the stages are fairly boring. You simply drive around non-descript large concrete buildings with the only clue as to what goes on inside is the plaques by the door. Unless a door is ajar or you time it perfectly as a star arrives, there is not much to see.

However, you are allowed into one of the working studios to get a look at a real TV set! What you get to see will depend on the day and the current filming schedule. On our last trip, we got to visit the Ellen set! It is not a quick glimpse either you are allowed to have a good look around and go on stage (Partially) for selfies!

Harry Potter Original Costumes

The next stop is the Archive where you get to see a selection of actual props from some of the Studio’s biggest films. The Current exhibit has Costumes and props from both the Harry Potter Films and the current (disappointing) DC Universe films.

While the DC exhibit did not interest us that much as we are not the franchise’s biggest fans, we loved the Potter Exhibits. There were costumes, wands, and sets from all of the films and a whole host of characters. There was even Aragog and the Sorting Hat, who was available for sorting you into your respective houses! (I was Slytherin and Kate was predictably Griffendor)

The Tour of the Archive is self-guided and you are simply given time to explore. We found we had plenty of time to have a good look around and were back ready to resume the tour with time to spare.

Warner Bros- The Tumbler

The Bat Cave is another part of the tour that is self-guided. In this soundstage is a host of different Batmobiles for the different eras of Batman films. Including the Tumbler from the Dark Knight trilogy, The Batman Returns Batmobile, The Bat Bike, Bat Plane, and the Joker’s Lamborghini from Suicide Squad.

The Bat Cave was not the most enthralling part of the tour. Sure it’s pretty cool to see the actual vehicles used in the films and the attention to detail is staggering, but it just feels a bit forced and not really part of a studio tour.

Warner Bros-The Hangover

As we headed to the Prop house we were getting a little over our tour. It felt like a real tag on that we just didn’t need to see. However, it proved to be one of the most interesting parts of the tour. The Prop House is the store for all props used in Warner Bors productions. Any prop used is stored in this giant warehouse for movie memorabilia. The store must be worth $millions as really iconic pieces are simply sitting around on shelves.

Some are very specific such as the array of items from the Hangover trilogy, including Marshall’s mansion (the model, not the real one!), and the Piano from the Caesar’s Palace villa. others are iconic and used time and again such as the President’s desk from Scandal. Other items are completely generic and can be used in any film. Clocks, lamps, furniture, etc. Whenever a set needs to be furnished they head here to loan out the items. If they don’t have it, the item is built (we got a look at the workshop too) or procured and then stored forever in the Prop Room.

It really was a fantastic place to look around.

Friends Set Warner Bros Tour

The final exhibit of the tour is Set 48. This is essentially the end of the tour and your guide says goodbye as you look around the interactive sets and displays. The final section Starts well and tails off to disappointment.

The first stop is the Friends Central Perk Set. The set is made up as in the TV Series but is a little underwhelming. It feels incredibly small and unlike the set, but this is the magic of TV. You do not really get to explore the set but you do get to Sit on THE couch and pose for photos. The attendant will also happily use your own camera/phone to take a snap for you, or you can purchase the official image. While the set was a little disappointing it is still a fun and worthwhile part of the tour.

The next few exhibits are about how certain elements of films are created, things such as forced perspective and CGI/Green Screen. There are also a few more iconic movie props, however, these are the more “priceless” type such as Rockies Gloves.

Finally, you are given the chance to be in your own movie. Either a Quidditch scene or a Batpod. Overall this is disappointing and little more than an attempt to sell you overpriced pictures and videos.

Finally, you are transported back to the Welcome Center and the whole tour is a little over 2 hours.

Overall we have a great time. The tour was one of our highlights of this L.A. trip and really exceeded all our expectations. The insight into movie-making was pretty staggering. The overall feeling was how all we had seen was so obviously fake and unrealistic and how this is shot and edited into something that is totally convincing and believable is the real magic of the movies.

The $69 ticket price is a little steep considering the tour is a mere 2 hours and just up the road, the Universal Studios Tour offers a similar experience and a whole load more! The actual tour is far better than Universals, but their tour is included with the entry fee to one of the best theme parks on the planet and is better value in our opinion.

That said they are really different experiences and we do recommend both. Of course, if you have a Go Los Angeles Pass doing both is no problem and will not cost you any more than choosing between them!

Tips For Visiting

Take lots of Photos – You are barraged with a LOT of info. Sets come thick and fast and trying to remember it all is impossible. Taking a photo log helps jog the memory. Also, go through the photos soon after and make a few notes if you want to have any hope of remembering what is what!

Dress appropriately – We tend to Visit early in the morning and even in spring the June Gloom can make the area a little chilly. Likewise in the summer, it can get scorching. For the most part, you will be out on a buggy in the cold or heat for a few hours. The best bet is to layer up, as once on the tour there is no way to go back a grab something you forgot.

Keep an eye out for Celebs – More on this below, but Tour guides are not allowed to point out celebs as they go about their work so it’s up to you to spot them.

You do not need to buy your Action Photos – In the Final Sound Stage 48 feel free to have a go at the Green Screen CGI demonstrations without feeling obligated to buy the overpriced photos and Videos. Make sure for the Friends, Central Park Set you to get a few snaps on your own phone as well as the official photo.

Do Universal as well – It is definitely possible to visit Warner Bros. in the morning and then Universal in the Afternoon. We did both Studios in one day and got on just about every ride at Universal and even left early with several hours left till park close.

Visit during the week – Another tip based on Celebs. These are WORKING Studios. Like most people Celebs and TV Lovvies like Their weekends off. so most shooting takes place on weekdays. You Celeb spotting chances go RIGHT up.

Will we See Celebrities?

Johnny Galecki

Nothing is guaranteed, and there are NO organized meets but the chances are really good. We already mentioned we saw live filming on our last tour but also we ran into Johnny Galecki arriving for work on the Big Bang Theory. While the tours are treated as a bit of a nuisance to the guys and girls working on the productions they are an unavoidable part of the Studio. Interactions between Guests and Celebrities are very common.

Have Your Say

Have you been to the Studios on a Tour? What did you think of the Experience? What was your highlight? Did you spot any Celebs? If you have any comments about the Tour or are planning a trip there yourself and have a question, just fire away in the comments below.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour: Know Before You Go

is the warner brothers deluxe tour worth it

If you've ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes during the making of a television show or major Hollywood movie, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Los Angeles gives visitors an opportunity to find out. For more than 75 years, Warner Bros. has been making movies at their Burbank studios, and they generously share their heritage with visitors on daily tours of the facilities.

However, unlike the extensive  studio tour at Universal , the Warner Bros. tour is unscripted and changes depending on what's currently in production at the studio. While Universal Studios has many sets from previous films, the only set you'll find at Warner Bros. is from the "Friends" television show, which has been relocated to a small room near the prop department so that visitors can enjoy it.

Tips for Enjoying the Tour

  • Some walking is required, and you'll get on and off the tram several times.
  • Adults must bring legal photo identification, and you will have to show it at the ticket counter.
  • Children under 8 are not allowed. Additionally, children ages 8 through 17 must be accompanied by an adult to take the tour.
  • Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled tour departure. Arriving early will allow time for parking and security.
  • Leave your video camera in the car as much of the tour doesn't allow photography; however, there are parts of the studio where you can snap a picture on your phone.
  • Do not bring large bags like backpacks or suitcases, or anything that might be considered a weapon (including pocket knives, mace, or pepper spray).
  • You will be check by a metal detector and have your personal belongings inspected before being allowed to enter the studio.
  • If you're visiting several Hollywood attractions on the same day, you can save money on the Paramount Tour with a Go Card.

Tour Options

Besides the basic tour, Warner Bros. offers an expanded tour or two that cover more areas, go into more depth, and may include lunch in the commissary. Visit their website to find out about these options if you're interested. However, keep in mind that the deluxe tour experiences may also have higher age requirements for guests—experiences that feature drinks are often only available to guests over the age of 21.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

The standard Warner Bros. Studio Tour takes guests through a real, working film production area—not a theme park. Every tour is different and depends on the film and television production schedules, but they regularly include a visit to a set or two and a peek at some of the behind-the-scenes productions of Hollywood. Highlights of the tour include:

  • The reception center shows a short film highlighting the history of Warner Bros.
  • Visitors travel in groups of 12 or less in an open-air tram. The tour varies, but you may see the Costume Department, Scenic Department, sound stages, editing rooms, screening theaters, and the 2-million-gallon tank used for filming water scenes.
  • Some parts of the Warner Bros. Studios are off-limits to photography, such as the sound stages where movies and television shows are filmed. The tour guide will stow your cameras when you visit these areas.
  • Tours usually visit at least one or two filming sets, which are typically for television series; the sets you visit will depend on the filming schedule for the studio.
  • The tour visits some of the studio's twenty acres of exterior sets. It's in this area where most of the picture taking are allowed. This is also where the tour guides shine, showing visitors spots such as the scene of Spiderman and Mary Jane's first kiss. They'll also take you behind the facades, building fronts made just for show and into a "practical" set, which has rooms inside.
  • Even though only a small portion of the studio's memorabilia collection is on display in the Studio Museum, you'll probably still be looking around at the costumes, scripts, props, and letters when your tour guide says it's time to leave. Vigilant guards keep itchy hands off the treasures, and very little is behind glass so that you can see it all clearly.

Once you've been on the studio tour, you'll never think of a movie or television program in quite the same way again.

We rate the Warner Bros. Studio Tour 4 stars out of 5. It's an authentic tour of a working studio unfettered by special effects, and the museum is excellent.

What You Need to Know

Tours are available on weekdays year-round (when you'll find more things going on) and weekends during summer vacation time. Check the current schedule before you go (not required but highly recommended). Open spaces are sold on a first-come, first served basis. There is an admission fee charged (expensive) and parking is extra. The basic tour lasts a little more than two hours, the expanded tour options last longer. Any time is a great time to visit.

Getting There

3400 Riverside Drive Burbank, CA

Parking is in a visitor lot near Gate N which is located across from the above address. A parking fee is charged. Driving directions from all the Los Angeles freeways are available at the Warner Bros. website.

The Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood – A Thorough Review

I love TV.  I have one of those brains that has a hard time relaxing. One of the few ways I can get a break is to watch a show…or two.  My favorites over the years have ranged from Cheers & Seinfeld to Breaking Bad & Survivor to current favorites like Ted Lasso & Fauda. So, when I was tripping activities in the LA area for our recent Rose Bowl trip , and came across the Warner Bros Studio Tour, it seemed like a no-brainer.  A chance to see where and how TV and movies are made?  Sign me up!

Some of the links in this post may be affiliate links.  If you buy something after clicking one of these links, I may earn a small commission.  This does not cost you anything extra and helps support this blog .

First, a Little History

The Warner Bros Hollywood Studio is located in Burbank, about 15 minutes north of downtown LA.  The studio was established all the way back in 1926. Films – and then TV – have been made there for almost 100 years!  The studio sits on 62 acres and is made up of outdoor movie sets, multiple sound stages, and buildings dedicated to all facets of movie & television production.  Well-known films made here include Casablanca, My Fair Lady , Goonies, and several of the Batman movies.  Well-known TV series include Friends and The Big Bang Theory.

The Warner Bros Studio Tour is a great way to see and understand the process that goes into making film and TV.  And I will say right off the bat that the tour exceeded my expectations.  In my research, I discovered that the tour is one of the highest-rated area activities on TripAdvisor. But still, I thought our access to a busy working studio might be somewhat diluted.  Not the case!  It was an in-depth tour with a great deal of insight and access to what seemed like a big portion of the studio.  Plus, it featured a lot of really impressive interactive displays.  Let me show you….

Getting Started

Warner Bros Studio offers a few different kinds of tours. We went on the most popular – The Studio Tour.  This tour starts every 30 minutes between 8:30am and 3:30pm, 5-7 days weekly (depending on the time of year). The Studio recommends that you buy your tickets online ahead of time, though limited walkup tickets may be available depending on demand. The guided portion of the tour lasts about an hour.  Self-guided touring through various displays can take another 1-3 hours depending on how long you want to linger.  We spent 2 hours on the lot.

You can click here to purchase tickets on Viator

Our tour started in a screening room where we watched  a short 5-minute movie quickly covering the Studio’s history.

We were then directed outside where we divided up into smaller groups.  Each group was assigned a guide and a tour cart.  Our guide’s name was Maxx.

The Backlot – You Might Recognize Some of This

First we drove through and explored the Backlot – a series of outdoor sets that have been constructed over the years, and have been used in countless movies and TV shows. Many of these sets date to the 1930s and all are still in use today. As Maxx took us down one street after the other, we jumped from small town Midwest to downtown New York, from tree-lined residential streets to seedy back alleys.

And we didn’t just stay in the cart. We got out and walked up and down these empty streets. We were even allowed enter a few of the buildings. Some are just empty shells like the photo below….

While others are called “Practicals” and are used for their interiors as well. In the photo below, Maxx explains how the decor of the room is changed constantly depending on what’s needed for the production, and how the open ceilings are used for gear.

Maxx also explained how even the exteriors can be adjusted. The bricks aren’t bricks. They are made of styrene and can easily be replaced in en masse for a different look. All the buildings also lack exterior features like door handles and lights, as you can see in the picture below. These are added at the time of filming, based on each production’s needs.

As we walked from location to location, Maxx would point out the storied filming history of individual streets, storefronts, and buildings. Memorable scenes like the alley for Spiderman’s upside-side down kiss, the cafe in Casablanca, the street outside Annie’s orphanage, the last shot of the Seinfeld series, and many many more.

Once back in the cart after each set, a short video would then show us each set’s transformation from one movie to another over the decades – very cool!

The Front Lot and Stage 16

Next up on the Warner Bros Studio Tour was the Front Lot. This is its collection of 30 sound stages where the interior production of films and TV takes place. Inside these huge soundproof buildings, elaborate sets are built, specific to each production.

We stopped at Stage 16. At 65 feet tall, it’s the largest on the lot and one of the tallest in the world. It also has a 2 million gallon water tank under its floor, extending another 30 feet below ground, allowing films like The Perfect Storm and Poseidon to be filmed inside.

At the time of our tour, the soundstage wasn’t in use. So we were able to walk inside and take in its cavernous enormity.

Each soundstage has a plaque on the outside listing its production history. Take a close look and you can see plenty of classics on Stage 16’s list including Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park.

We also had the chance to drive directly through The Mill. This is the construction department where the interior sets are created.

We also drove past the large building that houses the property department. This is where all the furniture and fixtures required to dress a set are kept. We weren’t able to enter, but could see stacks of lamps and other fixtures through the windows. Maxx described the intricate cataloguing and ordering system that the Studio has set up as we passed.

After this, the guided portion of the tour ended, and Maxx dropped us off at a building called Stage 48.

Stage 48 – Friendstravaganza

Stage 48 is the first of two interactive experiences on the Warner Bros Studio Tour. And there was lots going on in this building. Most popular is the coffee shop set from the TV series Friends. I personally never watched much of Friends, but this seemed to be the highlight for a great percentage of tour participants. Here, fans can line up and get a photo on the couch. I had to act fast to get the shot below in between groups of giddy fans.

There is also a Friend’s-themed fully-functioning coffee shop inside the building. Plus, a large gift shop mostly dedicated to Friend’s paraphernalia. Important note to those who need to eat midday like I do – the coffee shop has what looked to be a decent food menu, too.

Stage 48 also features the living room set from The Big Bang Theory where fans can also pose for photos.

In addition to the sets from those two popular TV shows, Stage 48 also offers an immersive experience called Script to Screen. As we walked from room to room, we were learned about the many sequential steps involved in film and TV production. It was all very interesting, especially all the costume displays. And I finally know what a foley artist does (creates the every day sound effects that are added post-production).

To Couch or Not to Couch

It would be easy to spend several hours at Stage 48. But we breezed through pretty quick, spending about 30 minutes. When we were ready to leave, a tour cart was waiting outside, and we were taken to the final displays on the tour.

First though, while again passing through the Backlot, we were given the option to get off and have our picture taken on the couch and fountain from Friend’s opening sequence. Again, not big Friend’s fans, so we stayed on the cart and headed directly to The Archive, which is located in the main tour building.

The Archive – Where I Became Hufflepuff

First up – costumes from many of the DC Comics movies, all made by Warner Bros Studios, including Michael Keaton’s Batman and Christopher Reeves’s Superman,

Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman,

and one of a long line of Batmobiles used in the movie franchise – this is the Tim Burton version.

Next, was Harry Potter’s Wizarding World. Harry Potter was filmed at the Warner Bros Studio in England rather than this one, but it is still a big deal on the Hollywood Studio Tour.

Here, several Harry Potter sets and scenes were recreated for our photo-taking pleasure.

Plus, we had the opportunity to participate in a Sorting Ceremony. We may have not wanted to sit on the various Friend’s couches, but we couldn’t pass up the Sorting Ceremony! The hat was lowered on to our heads (kind of), and our House was chosen by a voice above and around us. Me – Hufflepuff! Mrs. TT – Slytherin!! I’ll have to watch out around her now….

Finally, we found ourselves in a room surrounded by various awards collected by the Studio over the years, including a few of their Oscars. This is the first time I’ve ever seen an actual Oscar. The one pictured here is My Fair Lady’s Best Picture Academy Award from 1964.

Final Thoughts

Our time on the Warner Bros Studio Tour was thoroughly enjoyable. We learned a lot about film and TV production, had much better studio access than I imagined, and we were impressed with the interactive displays. We don’t tend to linger at displays, so our tour only took about 2 hours. But I can certainly understand why the Warner Bros website states that it could take 3-4. If you love TV (or movies) as much as I do, then don’t hesitate to spend a few hours on the Warner Bros Studio Tour in Burbank. You can click here to purchase tickets on Viator

If you would like to read about some of other great tours from my travels, then check out this post about an Air Tour in Kauai , this one about Touring Ballard Locks in Seattle , or this one about a Cooking Class in Seville Spain .

And during this trip to LA, I decided to exclusively use ride share for our transportation needs rather than renting a car like I usually do. Did I save money? Yes! A lot actually. Click here to check out my blog post about Uber vs Car Rental in LA

Tom smalltownplussize.

I enjoyed reading about your tour. Mrs Small Town has been so I’ve heard a lot of fun stories. I can’t wait to see it myself.

thethoroughtripper

Thanks Tom! As I think back to many trips to LA over the years, it’s definitely a highlight. Not sure why I’ve never done it until now.

Paul (Paul Passing Through)

Really interesting article. I think it’s so fascinating that the outdoor sets don’t have doorknobs or light fixtures. It would be so neat to walk through those soundstages where some of my favorite films were made. I do think it’s funny that they have Harry Potter sets. It would be fun but odd knowing none of them were filmed there.

We really learned so many interesting facts like that about TV and film production. Never read any Harry Potter myself. Watched each movie with the kids, but they came out so far apart that I had a hard time remembering the full story line over all the subsequent years. Still though, couldn’t pass up getting Sorted

Peggy Zipperer

Looks like a fun tour! I am completely fascinated with the huge water stage – 30 ft underground?!?! Mind-blowing! The Harry Potter scenes are great!

And we walked right across it. Would have loved to see what it looked like underneath that floor.

David Chalem

It’s actually *Maxx

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll add the second x to her name 🙂

Chalk and cheese travels8

What a great tour to do and see all the famous sets. Something we would love to do. We took the driving tour around Universal Studios and that was fun but this looks so much better

Brian Archambault

That Batmobile isn’t from the dark knight series. It’s from the 2 Tim Burton Batman’s with Michael Keaton

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll change it. I’m clearly not a Batman expert 🙂

I loved your letter I found it really interesting id love to see it in person that and tmz tour bus tour. I’d love to see the friends set when I know I’m going to la I’m going to book a tour with wb thats for the information. Pat

Glad to know that you found it so helpful. Hope you get the chance to experience yourself!

Lisa at Following the Rivera

I would love to do this tour! I love all of the Hollywood films and of course the shows too. It’s so cool to see the sets like this, it makes it more real!

Elena at TravelByExample

That’s a place I would love to visit one day! I’m sure everyone from my family would enjoy it, and I would be the one of those giddy fans to rush to take a picture in Friend’s coffee shop :))

Vanessa Shields

What an awesome tour! This is one thing I keep saying I’m going to do but never drive up to LA to go on it. You’ve motivated me to go this year! I’d love to see all the different sets and learn about productions. That’s neat that you can see everything that’s been filmed in each stage before entering. I had no idea there was such a huge water tank in one. Filming in that must be pretty cool to see.

Dylan Jones

I love the idea of doing this tour, it looks great. It’s great that they have the names of productions filmed in the soundstages listed outside. Definitely adding this to my list when I finally get back to LA.

I would love to take the Warner Bros Studio Tour. So cool to see the magic behind the scenes! Great pics and overview!

Exactly – the magic behind the scenes! Well put!

Stefan (Berkeley Square Barbarian)

Cheers, Seinfeld & Breaking Bad are all series I loved too, especially the latter. It is amazing that the studios have been around for nearly 100 years, yes, and that the Backlot outdoor sets are still in use but lack door handles or lights…

The dimensions of Stage 16 are truly mindboggling wow..

Fascinating! I would definitely go out of my way to take this tour. I am a huge fan of Big Bang so the chance to sit in Sheldon’s “spot” would be hard to resist and My Fair Lady is one of my favourites. The tour looks interesting and informative as well as fun. I suppose my only worry might be that seeing the shell behind the facade might take away some of the magic? Probably not! The suspension of disbelief is alive and well 😊

It’s so interesting seeing how iconic films and TV shows were made. I really like that they’ve kept the historical aspects like Stage 16 and the costumes. Would love a go on the sorting hat too!

It’s hard to pass up a hat sorting!!

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Deluxe – Is It Worth It?

Last Updated on November 24, 2023 by Suzy McCullough

As a pre-Christmas surprise for my Potter-head 9-year-old son, I wanted to book us a short break to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London. In the winter it is transformed into Hogwarts in the Snow and becomes one of the most sold-out winter attractions in the UK. This event sells out weeks in advance and there were no tickets left when I looked at booking. The only available option was to book a Studio Deluxe Tour . This is not cheap, but then again neither is entry to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. The Deluxe Tour can be booked all year round.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Deluxe - Is It Worth It?

Table of Contents

What is Included With the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Deluxe?

  • 2 ½ hour tour with one of their expert guides
  • Breakfast with unlimited tea, coffee and fruit juice
  • Priority parking next to the Studio Tour entrance
  • All digital greenscreen photographs and videos from both the broomstick flight over London and the Hogwarts Express carriage, 1x A3 printed wanted poster and 1x printed Ministry of Magic ID card
  • Butterbeer or Butterbeer ice cream in the Backlot Café, with souvenir cup
  • Re-entry to the Studio Tour after the guided tour to proceed at your leisure
  • Exclusive photo in front of the Great Hall doors
  • Souvenir guidebook and lanyard

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Deluxe - Is It Worth It?

Deluxe Tours Vs Regular Entry

Before our account of our day out including the Deluxe tour I just wanted to weigh up the pros and cons. Regular entry costs around £53 for an adult and £43 for a child. The Deluxe tour costs from £250 for an adult and £225 for a child. This package has become increasingly popular and you may need to plan your visit some months in advance.

I paid £475 for the two of us. We didn’t get to park in the priority parking as despite telling the parking attendants that we were on the deluxe tour they still directed us in to park with everyone else. This may or may not happen to you. As your breakfast isn’t included you may also have to purchase lunch there to take advantage of your tickets for the day. It was a lovely breakfast but I feel that having lunch included would be better. You can take a picnic with you which you can eat in the Backlot area or the picnic area.

Deluxe Tour Breakfast

Is the Harry Potter Deluxe Tour Worth It?

Without the cost of a Deluxe Tour, a souvenir guidebook costs £9.95. The green screen photos and videos costs around £75. A butterbeer in a souvenir cup costs around £7. The lanyard is around £4. Plus entrance costs, that is around £200 already spent not including breakfast. When you look at it like that the added bonus of the guided tour of 2.5 hours, plus re-entry to wander around by yourselves and photos by the doors of the Great Hall makes the cost entirely worth it to me. If you can afford it do it! It’s such an expensive day out anyway and you get so many insights through the guided tour. Plus of course some great memories.

Enjoying a butterbeer and butterbeer ice cream at Warner Bros Studio tour London

Another bonus of the Deluxe Package is that you get to skip all the queues. Simply flash your pass in your lanyard at the staff members and you will go straight to the front of the queue for the broomstick green screen experience. Which is more than worth it as it always has a huge queue. There was also a long queue for butterbeer and we were allowed to skip straight past this. You also go to the front of the queue for the Hogwarts Express green screen experience. Plus on the tour with the guide, we skipped the queue to board Hogwarts Express (this was very long) and the queue for Privet Drive.

Are The Green Screen Photos Worth It?

This is a tough one. The full package is included with your Deluxe Package so you don’t notice the cost as much. The green screen photos are incredibly expensive. There is a price for a photo of around £14 or you can upgrade to include a video and also extra photos. The all-in cost of the broomstick flying greenscreen is around £40. If I hadn’t been on the tour I’d have just bought a singular photo which would have just been for my son and not myself as well. The photos and videos we now have I feel are great memories to be cherished forever. My son has his Wanted poster framed on his wall. We also have photos and videos from the Hogwarts Express greenscreen which is slightly cheaper for the full package at around £35. You are given physical photos plus digital downloads.

Deluxe Package Warner Bros Studio Tour Review

As mentioned above we weren’t shown to the designated priority parking when we arrived which was annoying as it was part of the Deluxe Package. I had shown our deluxe ticket to the parking assistant so I’m not sure what went wrong.

Make sure you arrive with at least 30 minutes to spare before your meeting time for the tour. When we arrived at 9:30 it had already been open for an hour so there was a big queue for people to get their tickets. If you don’t have your tickets posted to you in advance you have to exchange your printed tickets at the box office. As part of the deluxe tour we also had to queue here and it was annoyingly long. After a few minutes wait we were met by our tour guide. We were then led to a small roped-off area in one of the cafes. Here we had waiter service for our included breakfast. This was actually very good.

There was just one other family on our tour which was a group of Americans with very little knowledge, it turned out, of Harry Potter. They loved the tour though. Once we had all finished our breakfast it was time for the guided tour to begin. We entered the Great Hall with a larger group of people with standard tickets. After some time in here, our guide led us secretly back round to the doors of the great hall. They then took photos of us by the doors. On a standard ticket, you do not get this opportunity.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Great Hall door deluxe tour photo

We were then guided around all the sets and props by our guide. Because your tour takes place during opening hours there were quite a lot of people that were trying to listen in to our tour. Our guide actually mentioned a few times to people not to listen in as it was a private tour. We learnt so much from her. As you walk around most exhibits don’t have information stands. If you are visiting without a tour you may not have the opportunity to learn much. They do have audio-visual guides you can rent for a small charge but there is nothing quite like learning facts from a real guide and Harry Potter fan.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Moving Staircase

There is so much to see and I have so many photos I could share but I will try and keep it to our highlights. I will also not partake in any facts we learnt as I’d rather you learnt them on a tour. You will learn how sets were used in filming, how costumes were made, the use of props and snippets about many of the characters. A lot of the film’s scenes were filmed on location right there at the studios.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London dorm at Christmas

Our tour guide also went into Snape’s laboratory to give a talk which of course everyone could listen in on.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Snape's lab

She also pointed out many things we may not have spotted ourselves. When you walk around there are some interactive elements including buttons you can press to make things move or happen.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London kitchen

One of my favourite areas is the square next to the cafe that’s about 3/4 of the way around. Here there is the Knight Bus complete with sound effect buttons, plus a recreation of number 4 Pivet Drive and the greenhouse with squealing Mandrakes. Our tour guide offered to take photos of us here on the famous Hogwarts Bridge and also sat in the blue Ford Anglia car. This is also where the butterbeer is. There is no time for this during the tour so you must re-enter later so you can use your voucher for a free butterbeer or butterbeer ice cream.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Knight Bus

We certainly made use of our free re-entry after the tour and used it to take more photos, drink some butterbeer and pull up the mandrakes yet again.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Gringotts Bank

Diagon Alley is dusted with ‘theatre snow’ during Hogwarts in the Snow. It’s almost impossible to take a photo of the whole alley without other people in. I think the only way you’ll manage this is if you arrive at 8:30 am but even then you’re not guaranteed as you don’t want to rush around just for a photo as you can’t re-enter with a standard ticket.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Diagon Alley

The large-scale model of Hogwarts is also given a dusting of snow. This is where our tour ended and where the tour guide took the last photos of us. Another reason to re-enter after the tour is to use your vouchers for the green screen experiences. Our actual tour over-ran and lasted for almost 3 hours. We had lunch after the tour before we used our free re-entry privilege.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Hogwarts in the snow

All in all, it was a wonderful and memorable day out and I didn’t feel ripped off. What we experienced was well worth the cost and I’d do it again if money allows. It’s the ultimate experience for any Harry Potter fan. With the deluxe package, we had a lovely relaxed experience. I’m pretty sure the queues to spend more money and to look inside Hogwarts Express would have annoyed me otherwise.

Warner Bros.’ Iconic Burbank Studios Traded Back for $375M

By greg cornfield july 15, 2024 2:55 pm.

Worthe Real Estate Group , QuadReal Property Group and Stockbridge Capital Group have acquired the iconic Burbank Studios as part of a yearslong deal with Warner Bros. Discovery .

The three companies paid $375 million for the 27-acre film studio campus in the Burbank Media District in Southern California, property records show. Representatives announced the deal Monday but did not disclose the value of the sale.

The Burbank Studios along West Alameda Avenue — which was the former headquarters of NBC Entertainment — spans 685,000 square feet and includes eight existing soundstages, production facilities and creative office space.

It’s also entitled for further development of soundstages and production space. The first of two phases will include five new soundstages.

Warner Bros. provided $281.3 million in seller financing as part of the transaction and will be the primary tenant of the property by way of sale-leaseback.

The same owners sold the property to Warner Bros. last year for $300 million in a complex deal that included the entertainment giant leasing the adjacent 800,000-square-foot Second Century office, which was developed by Worthe and Stockbridge and designed by starchitect Frank Gehry . Earlier this year, the developer secured a $475 million fixed-rate mortgage led by Wells Fargo and Morgan Stanley for Second Century.

The latest sale is another milestone part of a larger deal announced in 2019 between the developers and Warner Bros. that, at the time, was valued at $1 billion. It also includes Worthe and Stockbridge acquiring The Ranch Lot in Burbank, which is already undergoing $500 million redevelopment and will be leased to Warner Bros. for 926,000 square feet of offices and soundstages.

Jeff Worthe , president of Worthe Real Estate, said the acquisition is another sign of their confidence in the partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery and in the Burbank Media District.

“We never really wanted to sell the Burbank Studios,” Worthe told Commercial Observer. “We had to sell it in order to buy The Ranch Lot, which we really wanted, too. [Warner Bros. Discovery] ultimately decided it’s better if we operate it and they stay on as a tenant. … We’re big believers in Burbank and have been since the late 1970s.”

Development at Ranch Lot is on schedule to open in 2025, he added.

UPDATE: This story has been updated to include commentary from Jeff Worthe.

Warner Bros has locked the release date of its animated musical Bad Fairies.

On Tuesday, the makers announced that the film will hit theatres on July 23, 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie from director Megan Nicole Dong, known for creating and directing the Netflix animated musical series Centaurworld , is currently in production in London.

Warner Bros. also announced that Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss -- who co-created the Tony-winning musical Six and the new musical Why Am I So Single, premiering on London's West End next month -- will write the songs for Bad Fairies. Grammy-nominated musician Isabella Summers (Florence and the Machine) has come on board to compose the score and produce the songs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bad Fairies is touted as a "subversive musical comedy set in present-day London and focusing on a rule-breaking group of fairies.” Dong directs the feature from a script by Deborah Frances-White, host of podcast The Guilty Feminist. DNEG Animation serves as digital partners for Bad Fairies. "

"Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation are excited to welcome this extraordinary dream team of musical talents, Toby Marlow, Lucy Moss and Isabella Summers into our Bad Fairies family," said Warner Bros. Pictures Animation president Bill Damaschke and Locksmith Animation CCO Mary Coleman said in a joint statement.

"Together they will bring vibrant and unforgettable dimension to the story, and we cannot wait to share it with audiences around the world in 2027."

Details regarding the voice cast have not been disclosed yet.
