Don Trip Drops New Album "Red October"

Don Trip has kept himself busy as of late, dropping off 10 albums and EPs in just the past year alone. He kicked things off with his Gotham City EP in January, unveiling yet another EP, iHeartStrippersToo , the following month. He went on to unveil a full-length offering, The Devil You Know , in March. The 38-year-old tapped Starlito, Eddie Valero, Casino Jizzle, Kendrick P. and more for the LP.

He released two more EPs, Shoulders Of Giants and Die Another Day , before releasing Long Live Pif in June. The album pays homage to the late up-and-coming Memphis rapper, who was shot and killed in September of 2020. LPs Fireworks and Hell's Kitchen followed, with his second to last full-length offering, 1207 James St ., coming out at the end of September. Now, the rapper's back with yet another new album, Red October. The eight-track effort boasts a lone posthumous appearance from Pif, otherwise consisting only of soulful bars from the Tennessee native.

Don Trip Is Back With His Tenth Project Of The Year

The LP leads with the focused track "Man On Fire" before moving into the mellow and sincere love song "Spenanite Bag." Later on in the album, he spits about balancing his career and family life on "Kaylee's Birthday." The artist meditates on the struggles of trying to provide while on his "grind" before moving onto the boastful, "Fourth and Fifty" and finishing things off with bouncy and fun "Sideline Pop."

Don Trip isn't showing any signs of slowing down, and it's safe to say that fans can expect to hear more from the prolific hitmaker in the near future. Don Trip shares fresh live version of engaging song "Say Less" [Video]

Memphis rapper Don Trip has dropped off a fresh live version of his song "Say Less". As a prolific emcee putting his own twist on classic Memphis hip-hop sounds, he first launched his career with a string of potent mixtapes like Guerilla before landing on the 2012 XXL Freshman list. Since, he has continued to expand his raw, emotive catalogue with the hallmark Step Brothers mixtape series with  Starlito , as well as standout solo works. As part of the rollout for his latest album, Hell's Kitchen , the renowned rhymer returns with a live rendition of the album cut "Say Less". In fact, the standout single serves as a soul-seeking track that complements Trip’s trademarked style as he tells a paper chasing story. Don Trip tells the detractors to redirect their attention on why he only talks about money and keeps conversations with time wasters short and sweet.

"Say Less" is a poignant track laced with soulful, energizing production centred around glowing vocal samples and a bouncy, crisp rhythm section. Trip matches the raw, heartfelt feel of the instrumentation with honest, confessional verses injected with a hard dose of realism. His commanding delivery demonstrates his storied experience in the hip-hop game, while he delivers dexterous rhyme patterns that keep the listener on their toes throughout, anticipating each line.

In this book, main character Jordan learns that a couple of graphic novels have been removed from his school library, and he draws a comic about a writer being accused of having a harmful agenda.

Ban This Book by Alan Gratz. Tor/Starscape. Aug. 2017. ISBN 9780765385567. Gr 4–6 –When fourth grader Amy Anne finds out her favorite book, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler , is one of the titles banned from the school library by the PTA president, she decides to read all of the banned books. Other students start asking to borrow them, and soon Amy Anne and her friends are running the Banned Books Locker Library out of her locker.

This Book is Banned by Raj Haldar, illus. by Julia Patton. Sourcebook/eXplore. Sept. 2023. ISBN 9781728276564. Gr 1–3 –Giraffes are getting all the tasty leaves, and the hippos don’t like it one bit. The solution: Ban stories about giraffes! Complaining hippos are the next to be banned, followed by dinosaurs, avocados, beds, birthday cakes, and more. The hilarity here is balanced by more serious intent, beginning with an age-appropriate definition of a banned book. The ensuing examples, while comical, build understanding about what motivates book banners, including misinformation (dinosaurs are make-believe), personal beliefs (avocados are disgusting), and fear (there’s a monster under the bed).

Gr 7 Up –Centering on a transformative camping trip, this graphic novel captures the bravery of a group of South Korean students as they experience a weekend free from the repression and surveillance that wait for them back home. Hyun Sook spends the evening struggling between her desire to lead a prohibited banned book club and her fear of discovery and punishment.

The Great Banned-Books Bake Sale by Aya Khalil and Anait Semirdzhyan. Tilbury House. August 2023. ISBN 9780884489672. K–Gr 3 –Kanzi—the immigrant girl of Khalil and Semirdzhyan’s picture book The Arabic Quilt (which was removed from libraries in York, PA)—feels welcome at her school until an entire shelf of books about immigrant children and kids of color disappears from the school library. She and her classmates hold a bake sale to raise money to buy diverse books to donate to libraries, and the successful event leads to the books being allowed back into the library.

Attack of the Black Rectangles by Amy Sarig King. Scholastic. Sept. 2022. ISBN 9781338680522. Gr 4–7 –When sixth grader Mac opens a book in his classroom and sees words blacked out, he thinks it is a mistake. But Mac’s teacher is the town “watchdog,” who Mac and his friends think has taken it upon herself to remove words she finds inappropriate. They take their concerns to the principal, who is dismissive, so they set off to find the truth on their own. That quest leads to public discussions of underlying issues behind ­censorship attempts and the fight for power and control.

Gr 8 Up –In this graphic novel set in small-town Americus, Neil Barton finds solace in a fantasy series that gets challenged by a radical group of community members, led by his best friend’s mother. With the support of the librarian, he takes a stand in favor of the series and speaks before the board to keep the books on the shelves.

Gr 4–7 –Middle schooler June’s parents don’t like a book she is reading and create a public uproar that leads to her school librarian getting suspended and most of the books in the school library being removed. In response, June defies her parents and starts an underground library with books from fellow students and the town’s Little Free Library.

About Don Trip

After spending years rapping underground, Memphis wordsmith Don Trip captivated the nation with 2011’s “Letter to My Son,” a harrowing single chronicling his estrangement from his child. • Inspired by the preteen rap duo Kriss Kross, Don broke into the Memphis hip-hop scene at 15. One of his earliest projects was 2005’s Reloaded. • Don’s autobiographical 2011 single “Letter to My Son,” featuring Cee Lo Green, exploded on the internet, garnering millions of video views. • The single’s performance positioned Don for a record deal with Interscope and a placement on the 2012 XXL Freshman Class list. • Also in 2011, Don and fellow Tennessee rapper Starlito released Step Brothers, a nod to the 2008 film of the same name. The project—a blend of entertaining rhymes and pop culture references—earned Don a cult following. • Step Brothers performed so well that Don and Carlito delivered two more volumes. Step Brothers THREE (2017) made it onto the Billboard 200.

Museums with curiosities

The Altai State Museum of Local History (ul. Polzunova 46) houses valuable collections on the archaeology and ethnography of the indigenous peoples of the Altai (the Altaitsy, the Teleuty and the Telengity), as well as a large model of Demidov’s silver-refining complex.

The Museum of Time (ul. Matrosova 12) has grown out of the private collection of local resident Sergei Korepanov. The museum is full of amazing things from various epochs, all united by one main criterion: “the item exhibited must raise the interest of visitors from all age groups.” Here you’ll find also a 19th-century stereoscope (a device to view stereo-photographs) from Germany; a field samovar; a 1979 “Pingvin” siphon, which was used in to make lemonade in the USSR; and a Hungarian wooden mule.  

A place under the pines

The Barnaul pine forest belt is part of the Yegorevsky Reserve and the foliage of its pines, oaks, willows, poplars and trembling poplars protects the Altai from the dust storms that reach Siberia from Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Most importantly, it is an environmentally clean area where visitors can take a hike or spend a few days.

The Barnaul pinewood forest belt is 550-kilometers long and extends from the Ob River in Barnaul to the Irtysh River in Semipalatinsk in northeast Kazakhstan (3,347 kilometers from Moscow). There are numerous recreation facilities, health spas and summer camps for children, therefore it should be no surprise that locals and visitors love spending time in these quiet forests year round. In winter skiing and ice fishing are particularly popular.

How to get there

There are daily flights (a direct flight takes 4.5 hours) and trains (2.5 days) from Moscow to Barnaul. The railway station is located in the city center, while the airport is 17 kilometers west of the city. From the city the airport can be reached by taxi or by minibus no. 115. Many travelers also come to Barnaul from Novosibirsk, either by train (the journey takes 4-6 hours) or by bus (there are several direct buses every day).
