COVID 19 OPERATION PROTOCOLS

My gue sts' and my safety is of paramount importance. If any one is feeling ill, I will reschedule your charter or refund your deposit at no charge.   The boat is deep cleaned between trips.  Hand cleaning and sanitizing wipes are available on board.   ‍

As the owner operator, I have reduced my fishing schedule and sold the larger aluminum fishing machine the "Ultima" and replaced it with a smaller 21 foot Arima Sea Ranger Hardtop.  I now only offer  5 or 8 hour charters for up to 3 persons.  Crab and prawn traps will be set out at no extra costs if we are fishing near the crabbing and prawning areas.

The local waters around the City of Vancouver offers spectacular year round salmon fishing with the magnificent city skyline and mountains as the back drop to amplify an amazing fishing experience.

We offer 5-hour, 6-hour, 8-hour and full day (10-hour) charter packages on our high quality boats..

Our Transport Canada certified captains and guide are professional, friendly and very knowledgeable in all aspects of fishing the waters of Georgia Strait, the Gulf Islands and Howe Sound.

Our prime months for fishing are April through October but even during the winter months, you can also produce some very nice Chinook/King Salmon. Our vessels are equipped with the latest electronic fish finding equipment to ensure your best chance for catching salmon.

Our fishing charter: “deep respect”.

  Deep Respect fishing charter is a 26 foot ZETA Command Bridge Cruiser. Locally designed and built for west coast water and weather conditions. She is powered with twin V8’s generating 500 horsepower. Government inspected and certified. Equipped with the latest marine electronic. GPS, Sonar Fishfinders, Radar, VHF Radio, fishing equipment, cell phone and stereo (bring your favourite CD’s) Amenities include comfortable cabin, shelter from sun and rain and a full private washroom.

How to Get to Ucluelet

If taking a flight to Ucluelet, you’ll arrive at Tofino Long Beach (YAZ), which is located 22 km north of Ucluelet. The shortest domestic route to Ucluelet departs from Vancouver and takes around 45m. Take Airport Rd 1.7 km to Pacific Rim Hwy 4. Go south on Hwy 4 for 23.4 km to Ucluelet city centre.

From Victoria, take Trans Canada Hwy 1 north 103 km to Colvilletown. Take Hwy 19 west for 51 km to Qualicum Beach. Take Hwy 4 south for 152 km to Ucluelet city centre.

The Foggy Moon Chalet is highly recommended as a unique and cozy West Coast experience. 

Beds wonderfully comfortable, clean and comfortable. The covered hot tub was enjoyable and said was an absolute must to warm up after a walk on the beach or surfing! The chalet is dog friendly and the owners dog was friendly! Highly recommended hosts who gave their guests space and were quick to help when having questions.

The Ucluelet Aquarium has a colourful diversity of the local ocean life, without having to snorkel! Absolutely stunning with so many fascinating species! The Aquarium uses specimens that are collected and released each season for study and display.

One of the most interesting tanks is one that has been untouched for a decade but fed by local ocean waters. You can see what has thrived and settled in the tank. If you have children, they will love it. This is not a big city aquarium nor is there a big city price tags. The staff are really friendly, super knowledgeable and love to share their knowledge while needing out.

The Lighthouse Loop is gorgeous and only takes 45-60 minutes to enjoy lovely views while getting some fresh air. It is relatively flat, easy and accessible with some incline that is accessible to any fitness level. There are many viewpoints, benches and interesting, informative panels. This is the best part of the Wild Pacific Trail and the entire trail is actually spectacular. You can do shorter sections or enjoy the entire loop. Ocean Views are stunning; make sure to go to the black rock where you will get the best photos. The trail is safe and very popular for both the young and older generation.

Fishing for Halibut is one of our favourite things to do at Alberni Charters and the Folger Halibut Grounds in Barkley Sound is one of our best spots. Jigging for halibut is a great group activity and the satisfaction of landing one is beyond compare. Our average halibut catch is over 46 pounds.

Departure Points

Poett Nook is one of our favourite departure points for our west coast charters , as well as being one of the best Vancouver Island fishing grounds in any weather. This area of Barkley Sound is on the edge of sheltered waters with deep sea fishing opportunities, but without the danger of trip cancellations due to rough seas. Every year, derby-winning fish come from the shelves around Poett Nook. Salmon are plentiful here and our average halibut catch is 47.6 lb.

China Creek

China Creek is an ideal place to begin your journey into Barkley Sound and the wild West Coast of Vancouver Island. A short drive down a logging road from downtown Port Alberni, China Creek offers a beautiful Marina and world class fishing opportunities in sheltered waters.

Bamfield is another excellent place to begin your West Coast Fishing Charter. Surrounded by deep waters rich with diverse marine life, Bamfield has long been regarded as one of the main sportfishing hubs of Vancouver Island. Home to some of the coast’s best halibut fishing and the unparalleled Music By the Sea festival, this idyllic seaside town is a beautiful place to launch an unforgettable Alberni Charters Adventure.

We Fish Hard For You To The Last Cast !

2021 Barkley Sound Outlook - the Chinook run forecast is 133,000 fish. We have full limits - 2 Chinook per day, 4 in possession. This will be a solid fishery!

Pat Ahern and team have many decades of fishing experience that we offer our guests. Our Guides are Transport Canada safety certified and are CTAG certified. We operate Grady White charter vessels, which are Transport Canada Safety certified, and equipped with washrooms. We have a passion for sharing our fishery with guests and creating adventures that will leave lasting memories. Our interest is in providing honest fishing reports - we tell it like it is, that way you can plan with full knowledge of what fishing conditions are likely to be. While we cannot control the fishing, we will do our best to offer solid advice on when to book your trip based on past experience. Moreover, we will put in the extra effort to ensure you have a successful fishing experience...in other words, we fish hard to the last cast for you. Our season starts in April, where we fish Nanaimo, Nanoose and French Creek until mid-June. We move over to Port Alberni and Bamfield, fishing Barkley Sound and off-shore for Salmon and Halibut. Barkley Sound also offers amazing opportunities to see whales and other wildlife.

• Barkley Sound

We offer salmon and halibut fishing charters departing from Port Alberni, to Barkley Sound, Bamfield and fishing offshore. These areas offer truly wild west coast fishing experiences. Offshore halibut, ling cod and salmon trips are 2 to 4 day adventures - we base these trips from Bamfield staying at local lodges so we can be out on the water quickly. For these adventures, we will pick up and drop off guests in Port Alberni, saving you the long drive to Bamfield.

Barkley Sound offers some amazing opportunity to view Hump Back Whales, Eagles, Sea Lions and other marine mammals such as Pacific White Sided Porpoises.

• Port Alberni

We offer guided fishing charters in the Alberni Inlet, in Port Alberni, B.C. In June and July we target sockeye, which migrate up into the inlet staging to run into the Somas River. These fish are highly sought after as they are very tasty and a perfect size fish for younger fishers. Sockeye trips are usually 4 to 5 hours in length, departing the dock at first light for the best fishing. We also offer Inlet Chinook and King fishing trips in late August and early September. These trips are 6 hour morning trips.

Nanoose Bay

We offer salmon fishing charters departing from Nanoose Bay in the spring (April to June). These trips target Chinook (King) salmon that stage in the east coast Vancouver Island. We offer both full day fishing adventures and an evening night-bite special. North Nanaimo fishing trips are great for families and children. Give the family an experience to last for a lifetime.

While out fishing we do on occasion encounter Killer Whales, sea lions and other wildlife such as Bald Eagles.
