Daily Prayers

In addition to the weekly holy hour, it is important to commit yourself to prayer and reflection each and every day without fail. Additionally, it’s important to allow the meditations and the good spiritual fruit they produce to build upon themselves from week to week. God wants to take you on a journey that enters deeper and deeper into His life of grace. The following daily prayers will help you stay on that journey, moving forward to where He is leading.

Another helpful way to allow God to lead you is to keep some form of notebook in which you briefly write down the spiritual insights you have received in your prayer. By keeping notes and referring back to these notes regularly, you will be able to address the concerns, overcome the sins and rejoice in the victories that have come forth from the Voice of God speaking to your heart. Those notes will be used each evening during your night prayer. If you prefer, you may do this simply by making mental notes rather than written ones.

It sometimes can seem like everybody is talking about creating the perfect “morning routine” these days. Many include prayer in that perfect morning routine, but often getting started with a full-fledged habit can feel a bit daunting.

When it comes to morning prayer, we recommend picking a prayer and sticking with it for a week. A popular practice when it comes to developing new habits is “stacking” what you’re working on with something you already do every day. Try “habit-stacking” morning prayer with your morning cup of coffee, brushing your teeth, or even while you get dressed for the day. You might even find that you’re more consistent with prayer by praying before you get out of bed in the morning. 

Try a few different places, times, and prayers, and see what works best for you. What brings you peace? What helps you invite God into your day so you can be present with Him throughout it? 

Don’t be afraid to offer everything to Him in your morning prayer – both big and small moments of the day ahead. As St. Teresa of Ávila said, “You pay God a compliment by asking great things of him.”

Morning Offering 

This beautiful Morning Offering was written by Fr. François-Xavier Gautrelet in 1844. It helps us to offer everything on our hearts and minds to Him and trust that Jesus will take care of us. 

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. A Traditional Chaldean Morning Prayer 

This morning prayer comes from Chaldean liturgy of the Eastern Catholic Church. The words of this traditional prayer remind us to place our trust in the Lord at the beginning of the day; we start the day by praising Him and asking Him to sow love in our hearts. 

As morning dawns, we praise you, Lord, for you have saved your whole creation. In mercy, grant a day of peace; bestow forgiveness for our sins.

May you not ever cut off hope, nor shut the door before our face. Do not withhold your care from us, for you alone know our weakness.

Sow love, peace, and harmony; uphold our priests and calm our kings; heal all our sick and guard the strong; forgive the sins of all mankind.

A peace primer: How to go deeper in prayer

“Prayer can be difficult. Prayer can be joyful. Prayer can be deeply challenging. But always life-changing.”

That’s the beginning of a trailer for a new book on the reason we were made, our “journey into the heart of God.”

Dan Burke, executive editor of the National Catholic Register  ,  president of the Avila Institute for Spiritual Formation and the creator of Divine Intimacy Radio and SpiritualDirection.com, is the author of Into the Deep: Finding Peace Through Prayer . We talk a bit about going deeper and what it can mean.

Kathryn Jean Lopez: What’s this deep that you want people to go into? It doesn’t seem the most practical thing in the world.

Dan Burke: Well, the call to the deep did not originate with me. In fact, it was Jesus in the Gospel of St. Luke. chapter five, who invited Peter to “put out into the deep.” Peter was reluctant, but he answered Jesus’ invitation and was delighted to discover the abundance that comes from saying “yes” to God. There really is nothing of greater practical and eternal value in life than saying “yes” to God.

Lopez: Did you write this book because Catholics do not know how to pray?

Burke: At a typical Sunday Mass, nearly every hand would go up if you were to ask the congregation, “How many of you know what prayer is?” However, in my work in spiritual theology I have found that, in reality, only a small percentage of Catholics really understand or engage in the depths of prayer to which God is calling them. Catholics may know the basics, but we are called to seek more — the profound depths of prayer that God has revealed in the saints.

Lopez: How do the best practices you lay out help? Will it help someone who has never really read a book on prayer before or developed any kind of routine or plan for prayer?

Burke: The approach I propose will help anyone who is ready to make a serious commitment to prayer. The reason for my confidence is that what I propose is not my new idea, but one that is tried and tested and has been the staple of a myriad of saints. So what is new about this book? I think we succeeded in making things very simple and practical, yet not shallow. Our approach reflects ancient wisdom, practically applied to our time.

Lopez: Why would God ever desire you or I or any other imperfect human being, as you write? Doesn’t that suggest a God who needs higher goals?

Burke: No, it suggests that God’s love has no bounds. Jesus went to the cross to pay for our sins, and there has never been a greater demonstration of love and the lengths to which love will go to bring healing and hope. There is nothing unforgivable, no mind too confused, and no heart too broken that God cannot and will not heal if we would simply allow Him to do so.

Lopez: Can one really find peace through prayer? A lot of people might say about now: Killing terrorists would be higher on their priority list.

Burke: Could the 1st-century Christians find peace under persecution that was brutal and relentless? Some of the worst persecution in history is happening now, but the level of brutality and ruthlessness is not new. In the 1st century, in the face of the radical assault against humanity and the work of God, Jesus promised peace. The Holy Spirit also promised a “peace that passes all understanding” through St. Paul. The fact is, it doesn’t matter how loudly and powerfully the storm rages around us and sometimes in us, if we know intimacy with God in and through the sacraments and mental prayer, we can know the peace promised to us by Jesus.

Lopez: Why is prayer a “battle?”

Burke: Prayer is a battle because of our brokenness. Our hearts yearn for God, but we often don’t understand that yearning, so we seek to satisfy it in everything but the “one thing that is needful.” Once we discover that one thing, there is much in our nature that must be confronted in order to develop a healthy discipline of prayer. The battle lies in the constant assault of the world, the flesh and the devil, but the victory is won through perseverance and the grace that God promises to give as we say “yes” to Him.

L opez: What do monkeys have to do with prayer?

Burke: I use the idea of “monkeys in the head” as a way to illustrate the significant challenge of distractions. Monkeys are quite rambunctious and usually do all they can to disrupt our focus. Everyone with a pulse has “monkeys” that want to keep them from prayer, and we provide a few key strategies to deal with these monkeys and eventually win them over to even help us in prayer.

Lopez: What does a “solemn commitment to God” look like?

Burke: A solemn commitment is one that we can make to God to increase our ability to persevere in prayer. It is solemn because we recognize how important prayer is to our relationship with God and because we deeply desire to honor this commitment. It can be applied to any person and their own specific desire and approach. It can be five minutes a day or thirty minutes. Whatever the commitment we make, when we work hard to keep it and truly seek to “draw near to God” in this way, He promises that “He will draw near” to us.

Lopez: How can one experience God? Especially anyone reading this who thinks this all sounds impossible, implausible, even silly?

Burke: Well the good news is that Jesus and the saints didn’t think it was silly. Jesus promised in St. John’s Gospel, chapter 14, that He would “manifest” himself to those who live within a covenant of love with Him. It is not only possible to know this reality; it is abnormal to not experience God in this life. The secularization of our culture, coupled with false beliefs about piety, have done a great deal of damage to our ability to understand what it means to be in relationship with God. The fact is that the saints had a dynamic and living relationship with God that empowered many of them to change the world that they lived in and some to literally change the world as a whole. The path that many of these saints followed to experience God is the essence of what I am trying to reveal in the book. I have not only seen this lived out in the lives of the saints, but also in the lives of moms, dads, college students, grandparents — anyone who is truly ready to yield to the work of God in their soul.

Lopez: Is there a way for Christians to influence better politics through prayer? Why does that seem like a cop-out to many? Surely you’ve seen some of them.

Burke: Well, as a matter of fact, anyone who says, “Don’t just pray … do something!” has a deeply impoverished view of prayer. In fact, if whatever endeavor we engage in is not empowered by prayer, the most important results will be either temporal or elusive. We need deep change in our world, but that change won’t come through the power of politics. Any lasting change can only come through hearts transformed by an authentic encounter with Christ. Those who know this reality will change the world and will engage in politics in a way that is in keeping with what it means to have an authentic relationship with God — one immersed in the power of His presence within and engaged in serving the world without.

Lopez: How does being “scrappy” help with holiness?

Burke: Most of us who make a living and are good at our work know what it means to be scrappy at work. However, few apply that same diligence, creativity, and resourcefulness to prayer. Thus we often “give it a try” rather than make a serious commitment to do whatever it takes to find this “pearl of great price.” When we make a serious commitment, we are saying that no matter how many times we fail or how much we struggle, we will never give up on the most important reality of this life: a life of union with God. Being scrappy is absolutely necessary if we are to be holy.

Lopez: Who is Into the Deep for?

Burke: I worked very hard to write Into the Deep f or anyone who is ready to say “yes” to God in prayer. Matthew Kelly is responsible for helping me to simplify the effort without dumbing it down, giving it broad appeal and applicability — but significant depth. People can read this book in an hour, but it will take a lifetime to implement. I truly believe it can help anyone who has a real desire to answer Jesus’ invitation to “put out into the deep.”

Dear Lord, You have brought me to the beginning of a new day. As the world is renewed fresh and clean, so I ask You to renew my heart with Your strength and purpose. Forgive me the errors of yesterday and bless me to walk closer in Your way today. This is the day I begin my life anew; shine through me so that every person I meet may feel Your presence in me. Take my hand, precious Lord for I cannot make it by myself. Amen.

God loves when you pray for strength. And He promises to answer you: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am Your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Dear Lord, I don’t know who or what will cross my path today. But I do know that You are my rock and my fortress. You are my shield and my strong tower. Help me to anchor myself to You today. Dear God, I thank you for my job. You have provided me with steady income and I’m so thankful. I pray that You watch over me today at work and I pray that there are no accidents, so that everyone can go back to their homes. I thank you that my job has provided an income to support me and my family. I thank you for the provisions that You have given me. I pray for safe travels to and from work and I pray that You will use me as You see fit today for Your glory. Amen.

Our Heavenly Father has filled our lives with incredible opportunities. It’s important that we are always ready so that we can hear God’s voice when He is calling us. We don’t miss these opportunities when they come to us. Start your day off with this morning prayer for opportunity :

Dear Lord, I pray today that I will yield my spirit completely to You, that You may use me as You please. I pray that You will provide me opportunities to show people how much You mean to me. Give me discretion to know what to say and how to say it. Make me bold enough that I may proclaim salvation cheerfully and joyfully. I pray that the seeds You allow me to plant will grow and mature. I am forever grateful for the cross; may I proclaim it in a contagious way today. Amen.

Contentment is a simple grace. It is certainly reasonable and logical. It is our Father’s world, so we should rest in His care. While many of us desire to be content, it is not easily attained or kept. For, no sooner than we begin to enjoy the grace of contentment, it is gone and dissatisfaction returns. Start your day off with the prayer for contentment:

Dear God, I pray that I will stay focused on You today. I pray that You will constantly remind me to be content in all of my circumstances. I pray that You will fill me up that I may be joyful all day, even if stress creeps in. I know that through my contentment, You will be glorified. I want to honor You, Father, in all that I do. Amen.

Half birthday.

Today is my half birthday. This means that in exactly six months I'll be thirty years old. I find myself looking forward to thirty, but not in quite the same way that I've anticipated other birthdays. There is, of course, the excitement as a new year approaches, but there is too,  a sense of peace that whispers to me that my thirties will be just fine.

Like most people, my twenties have been turbulent. I've finished college and grad school, transitioned from being a student to being an employee, lived in three different states in the US. My friendships have changed too: I've made new friends and parted ways with some old ones; and of course I've had friends that have been with me through it all. At the start of my twenties all of my friends were students, all of us trying to work our way through early adulthood, today my friends are students and teachers and wives and mothers and professors and educators and business professionals and writers and dancers and so much more. As we've gone down different paths I've been constantly reminded that there's more: more people to love,  more opportunities to take, more places to go.

My twenties have shaped me into the woman I am, and helped me determine who is the woman that I want to be. They have been filled with music and prayer and dancing and reading and writing. As thirty approaches I know these things to be true in my life:

1. Community in the body of Christ is imperative. I do not want to live life without being connected to, and serving in a church.

2. Prayer is important, and God is faithful to answer our prayers. I want to be a woman who prays consistently, in every season of life, not just the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

3. Fear of failing is not a good enough reason for not trying. I've been disappointed quite a bit over this decade, about things for which I've been most hopeful, but I've been the most upset about the things that I never tried because I was too scared. "I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.  I can do all things through him who strengthens me." (Phil 4:12-13)

4. I want to write. I've always wanted to write. I've been unknowingly creating opportunities for myself to write since forever. I will always want to write. I want to write as a major part of my job (which I do, currently). I want to write a book. And then another book. And then more books. I understand Jeremiah's feeling of having fire shut up in his bones.

5. There's nothing more encouraging than having friends and family and mentors who believe in you, especially on those days where you don't even dare to believe in yourself.

I'm thankful for the crazy turbulence of my twenties, and I look forward to seeing what the last six months of this decade will bring. Thirties, I'm looking forward to meeting you in six months!

Tensions have soared in the Middle East more than six months into Israel’s war on Gaza.

  • Iran has fired air defence batteries to shoot down three drones over Isfahan, according to state media, as regional tensions rise following Iran’s retaliatory strike on Israel after an attack against its diplomatic premises in Syria.
  • Unnamed United States officials have told US media that Israel launched an attack against a site in Iran, but the Israeli army has yet to comment.
  • Italy’s foreign minister says the US was given a last-minute warning about the attack on Iran.
  • Flights in several Iranian cities were briefly suspended. There were also reports of explosions in Syria and Iraq.
  • The escalation comes more than six months into Israel’s devastating war on the Gaza Strip , which has killed more than 34,000 people, and heightens fears of a spiral of violence across the region.

Here’s what’s happened today

We’ll be closing this live page soon. But before that, let’s have a quick recap of the day’s events:

  • Iran says its air defence systems shot down three drones in Isfahan province early in the morning. There were no reports of damages, but an investigation is under way to determine where the drones were launched from and who was behind the attack, officials said.
  • Israeli officials have not commented, but the reports came after Israel threatened to attack Iran following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on April 13. Meanwhile, unnamed US officials told media outlets that Israel had launched an attack on Iran.
  • Iranian officials have sought to downplay the attack, with a senior official saying there was no plan for retaliation.
  • There were also reports that mini-drones were flown by “infiltrators from inside”.
  • While countries around the world called for de-escalation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken refused to comment on the reported Israeli attack, only saying after the conclusion of Group of Seven (G7) talks in Italy that the United States “has not been involved in any offensive operation”.
  • Even so, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the US told the G7 foreign ministers that it received “last minute” information about the attack on Iran.

Attacks by Iran and Israel set ‘precedent’

This month’s escalation between Israel and Iran has set an important precedent, according to Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst.

“In these past weeks, a threshold has been crossed: For the first time in 45 years, Iran and Israel exchanged direct attacks on their sovereign territory – this is new,” Bishara said.

“That has set a precedent that we can no longer overlook, and we can no longer say ‘This is not going to be repeated’. There is a very good possibility, especially because it did not deteriorate too far.”

And because the attacks have been contained, “we could probably see more in the future”, Bishara said.

Turkish, Iranian foreign ministers discuss regional developments: Report

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian have spoken over the phone to discuss the recent developments in the region following the reported explosions in Isfahan, according to Anadolu news agency.

Anadolu quoted sources as saying that the phone call was made at the request of the Iranian side, without sharing further information.

Afifeh Abedi, an Iran analyst, said that it is likely that Ankara “has become a channel” for exchanging messages between Iran and the US.

“It seems that this call was made to convey Tehran’s message to Washington after the events in Isfahan,” she wrote on X.

Earlier, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it is “closely” monitoring the recent developments in the region, and called on all parties to refrain from steps that could lead to a wider conflict.

“In light of the latest developments, it is becoming increasingly evident that the tensions that were initially caused by Israel’s illegal attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus risk turning into a permanent conflict,” a ministry statement said.

Global calls for ‘de-escalation’

From Germany and Russia to Japan and Egypt, countries around the world have called for “de-escalation” following the suspected Israeli attack in Iran.

Meanwhile in Gaza, death toll rises to 34,012

We’re taking a quick break from the live coverage on the rising tensions between Israel and Iran to bring you the latest from Gaza, where the death toll in more than six months of Israeli attacks has now topped 34,000.

According to the latest figures by the Health Ministry in Gaza, at least 42 people were killed and 63 wounded in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

These figures bring the overall number of people killed since October 7 to 34,012, with 76,833 wounded.

‘Clear this was going to be a limited exchange’

Iranian officials say they don’t have a plan to retaliate – and that’s not surprising.

I think it was very clear from the very beginning that this was going to be a limited exchange, just as we’ve seen between Israel and Hezbollah.

So there’s a certain that there is hostility, that there is an exchange of hostilities, but that it will always be somehow contained.

Iran is not interested in a direct confrontation with Israel because conventional war between Iran and Israel – backed by the US and other Western power – is not to Iran’s advantage.

Iran has preferred for the past 40-plus years to engage in asymmetrical, indirect, proxy wars with Israel rather than direct conflicts.

What is clear is that Israel hit, but it was not the kind of hit that is meant to cause civilian damage or to humiliate Iran but to satisfy Israeli military ambition without angering the US.

Iran’s former top diplomat says attack on Iran a ‘diversion’ from Gaza

Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned the “reckless fireworks” carried out in Iran’s city of Isfahan, urging world leaders to instead focus on “ending Israeli transgressions” in its ongoing war on Gaza.

In a statement posted on X, the former Iranian foreign minister said nothing should divert international public opinion from “Israel’s atrocities”.

“Genocide continues apace in Gaza,” said the chief Iranian negotiator of the ill-fated 2015 nuclear deal with the US and world powers.

He also criticised the US veto on the UN Security Council resolution on Palestine’s UN membership, saying it was “clearly a step in the wrong direction”.

Zarif added that the council’s failure to condemn the April 1 strike on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria compelled Iran to invoke its right to self-defence, referring to the April 13 attack on Israel.

No signs of appetite to further escalate situation

An investigation is under way to determine where the drones were launched from and who was behind the attack, but according to Iranian officials nothing has been damaged.

The IAEA has also said there is no damage sustained to any of the country’s six nuclear facilities.

Things are still very tense and whether or not this is the final response by Israel is unclear.

But what is clear is that this attack has been successfully repelled by Iran and its forces for the time being. Whether or not anything else will happen in the coming hours or days remains to be seen, but for now there doesn’t seem to be any appetite here to further escalate the situation between Iran and Israel.

Are Israel and Iran seeking a way out of escalatory cycle?

Some analysts say the limited nature of the suspected Israeli attack in Iran and the restrained reactions among Iranian officials suggest that both parties are looking to de-escalate the tensions in the region.

  • “We seem to be at a moment when both sides are seeking to exit the current escalatory cycle, with Israel conducting a very limited attack to demonstrate some response to the Iranian strikes and Tehran quickly playing down the incident in order not to be compelled to respond,” said Julien Barnes-Dacey, director of the Middle East and North Africa programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations. “For the moment, neither side want a direct war,” he told AFP.
  • “What should be emphasised is a quasi-symmetry between the two strikes. There is a certain restraint on both sides,” said Hasni Abidi, director of the Center for Studies and Research on the Arab and Mediterranean World in Geneva. “Objective indications show us that for the Iranians this is a closed matter, and that for the Iranians, more than the Israelis, there is no interest in this tension continuing.”

UN chief says ‘high time to stop dangerous cycle’ of retaliation

In a carefully worded statement that does not mention the latest attack on Iran, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that “it is high time to stop the dangerous cycle of retaliation” in the Middle East.

“The Secretary-General condemns any act of retaliation and appeals to the international community to work together to prevent any further development that could lead to devastating consequences for the entire region and beyond,” Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in the statement.

Five things to know about Isfahan

News of an attack on Iran has brought attention to the central city of Isfahan, which once served as the capital of the Persian Empire during the Safavid dynasty.

In January 2023, a military factory belonging to the Iranian army in Isfahan was also attacked by multiple drones. The province of Isfahan is home to Iran’s main nuclear site, Natanz .

Here are five things to know about Isfahan:

  • From 1598 to 1736, Isfahan served as the capital during the rule of the Safavid dynasty.
  • Shah Abbas made it his capital and rebuilt it into one of the largest cities in the world during the 17th century, leading to the coining of the phrase, Isfahan nesf-e-jahan ast (Isfahan is half of the world) to highlight the city’s importance as a seat of power.
  • The city has a population of approximately 2.2 million, making it the third-most populous city in Iran, after the modern capital, Tehran, and Mashhad, a religious centre in the country.
  • Counting the greater Isfahan province’s population of four million, it is considered as the second-largest metropolitan area of modern-day Iran.
  • The UNESCO World Heritage site, Naqsh-e Jahan Square, is located in Isfahan. Constructed between 1598 and 1629, it is considered one of the largest ancient squares in the world. Next to it is the Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest bazaars in the Middle East.

Here’s what happened at G7 meeting after attack

The rising tensions in the Middle East dominated discussions as the G7 foreign ministers met in the Italian island of Capri:

  • Addressing reporters after the talks ended, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken refused to comment on the reported Israeli attack against Iran, only saying that the US “has not been involved in any offensive operation”.
  • Blinken added the G7’s focus is on de-escalation. Asked to describe the current US-Israel relationship, Blinken noted that Israel makes its own decisions, but the US is committed to its security.
  • His comments came after Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the US told the G7 ministers that it received “last minute” information about the attack on Iran.
  • The G7 ministers’ communique, meanwhile, warned of new sanctions against Iran for its April 13 drone and missile attack on Israel and called on both sides to avoid an escalation of the conflict.

All Blinken says is US not involved in offensive action

Antony Blinken reiterated the message of de-escalation and also said that the US has not been involved in any conflict alongside Israel, in terms of the strikes in the early hours of the morning on Iran.

He wouldn’t be drawn on whether the US had received prior warning from Israel as it’s being reported, therefore whether the G7 ministers themselves had received that warning via US channels, nor he would be drawn on the question of whether he thought that G7 pressure had helped in getting Israel to limit its strike.

The Italian foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, though confirmed that both of those things had happened.

Iran’s army says ready for any further air attacks

Kioumars Heydari, the commander-in-chief of the ground forces of the Iranian army, says Iran remains vigilant to confront any other potential aerial threats.

“If suspicious flying objects appear in the sky of the country, they will be targeted by our powerful air defence,” he was quoted as saying by the state-run IRNA ahead of Friday prayers in Tehran.

“Even though last night’s objects were suspicious, our country’s defences reacted intelligently.”

Heydari also said Iran’s April 13 attacks on Israel “showed that the Islamic republic has the upper hand in the region and can establish security without the interference of any foreign power”.

Lufthansa, subsidiaries suspend flights to Israel amid tensions with Iran

The German airline Lufthansa and its subsidiaries Swiss and Austrian Airlines said all flights to Israel are temporary suspended.

Four flights scheduled between Friday and 7am (05:00 GMT) on Saturday have been cancelled so far, a Lufthansa spokesman told dpa news agency.

US got last-minute warning about attack on Iran: Italy FM

The United States told the Group of Seven foreign ministers that it received “last minute” information about the attack on Iran, Italy’s foreign minister said.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told reporters in Capri that the US provided the information at a morning session that was changed at the last minute to address the attack.

Tajani said the US told the G7 ministers that it had been “informed at the last minute” about the attack.

“But there was no sharing of the attack by the US. It was a mere information.”

He also said that Italians living in Iran were all accounted for and “without problems”.

Iranian president makes no mention of Isfahan attack in new speech

Ebrahim Raisi is on a visit to Damghan, in the central province of Semnan, where he made a speech but made no mention of the attack on Isfahan.

He mostly discussed local affairs, remaining focused on the goals of provincial trips that he has been making across the country since assuming power – but he did talk about the April 13 attack on Israel.

“Operation True Promise led to authority, unity and cohesion in the country,” Raisi said. “Today, all political groups and factions believe that this response was necessary and a big honour for the country.”

Iran’s army has said the Isfahan attack is being investigated and further information will be made public later.

Blinken says US not involved in offensive operation, does not confirm Israeli attack

The US secretary of state, taking questions in Capri, has refused to comment on the reported Israeli attack against Iran.

“I’m not going to speak to that, except to say that the United States has not been involved in any offensive operation,” Blinken told reporters.

‘Desperate attempt’ failed: Iranian MP

Mehdi Toghyani, a member of the Iranian parliament from Isfahan, says the “desperate attempt” from Israel “with the help of local agents” had “failed and brought new disgrace for them”.

“Let them know that we are at peak readiness to protect our dear Iran,” he wrote on X.

Blinken delivers statement

The US secretary of state is speaking to reporters in Capri, where he attended the G7 meeting.

So far, Antony Blinken has yet to mention this morning’s reported Israeli attack in Iran.

He did say, however, that the US is committed to Israel’s security and to “de-escalation” in the Middle East.

Foreign minister says Russia told Israel ‘Iran doesn’t want escalation’

Sergey Lavrov says Russia has held conversations with both the Iranian and Israeli sides.

In an interview with Russian radio stations, the foreign minister said:  “There have been telephone contacts between the leadership of Russia and Iran, our representatives and the Israelis.”

He added: “We made it very clear in these conversations, we told the Israelis that Iran does not want escalation.”
