Coronation Street set tours to return this spring

Coronation Street The Tour is set to welcome back guests to the cobbles from Saturday 12th March, promising a trip down the nation’s most famous street to discover the hidden world that lies behind the camera lens.

Following a two-year hiatus, general tickets have now been released for official tours from this spring, which will run on select weekends throughout the year. Guests will, once again, have the chance to explore the sensational external sets at MediaCityUK (Manchester) on a guided tour which takes in Coronation Street, Rosamund Street and Victoria Street.

Coronation Street set tour

Stepping on to the largest working television LOT in the country, fans will become immersed in the familiar surroundings of the Rovers Return, Roys Rolls, Underworld and The Kabin as they follow in the footsteps of their favourite characters down those Coronation Street cobbles.

Recalling stories from yesteryear as each tour takes a trip down memory lane, guides will share the secrets from behind-the-scenes, point out the locations of iconic storyline moments, give the latest low-down of who lives where and who’s up to no-good - AND ensure everyone gets that selfie on the street, all as part of the 90 minute experience.

Operated by Continuum Attractions, General Manager, Steve Masters, said:  “Even with all the drama unfolding on our screens over the last couple of years, those cobbles haven’t half been quiet and we’ve missed sharing them with all our guests! But, it’s going to be well worth the wait and we look forward to welcoming our first guests back on the street next month.”

Like the rest of the leisure and tourism industry, tours of the Coronation Street set were postponed back in the spring of 2020 as the country went into lockdown. For the safety of all, the site has operated as a closed set to critical production staff ever since. Now, nearly two years to the day, the tour is looking forward to welcoming guests back to Weatherfield on select dates throughout the year.

Coronation Street tour: Review, pictures and secrets from the set

Property, Town, Building, House, Street, Neighbourhood, Architecture, Wall, Lane, Road,

The first tours kicked off this weekend, but ahead of the official launch, Digital Spy was among the first to get a sneak peek at what to expect as the organisers held an official press preview earlier this week.

Here at DS , we've been lucky enough to visit the Street on previous occasions, but even for us this was a completely new experience as the tour proved to be much more than just a simple walk down the cobbles.

With the help of trained tour guides, visitors to the attraction almost become members of the crew themselves as they get an access-all-areas pass to sets, production rooms, wardrobe as well as the Street itself.

Liqueur, Signage, Advertising,

Next stop is the 'Corridor of Stars', which housed the dressing rooms of some of the show's original cast members including Bill Roache and Philip Lowrie. While some remain closed and locked, a couple have been opened up to the public for the first time to give fans an insight into the other main place where the cast relaxed in between scenes.

Interestingly, the tour guides explain that no two dressing rooms were the same, as each cast member used their rooms slightly differently. Some treated them as a 'home away from home' and even brought in beds for naps during breaks from filming, while others preferred to keep things as basic as possible.

After a quick trip into wardrobe and make-up, visitors are then guided into one of the tour's main highlights - Stage One, which housed the sets for the show's interior scenes.

Carla's former flat, the Platt family's home and the Dobbs house are among those on display, and they have been fully dressed for the tour in exactly the same way they would for a scene.

Lighting, Interior design, Room, Textile, Floor, Ceiling, Interior design, Light fixture, Decoration, Linens,

While it's often been said by those who have been lucky enough to see the sets, fans really will be struck by how small they seem in real life. For example, seeing how tiny the Platt kitchen is, it's difficult to imagine how the cast all fit in for those awkward family meals we often see!

Just like the dressing rooms, no two sets are the same. Set designers always made sure that Carla's kitchen was spotless - reflecting how infrequently she ever cooked in there - while the messier Platt house illustrates the chaotic reality of family life with David, Kylie and the kids.

Lighting, Interior design, Floor, Ceiling, Light fixture, Interior design, Houseplant, Picture frame, Flowerpot, Ceiling fixture,

Of course, no trip to Corrie would be complete without a trip to the Rovers Return, where fans have the chance to have a picture taken while pulling a pint behind the bar. This can be purchased later on in the tour, though fans are free to take their own photos once they move onto the exterior Street set.

While other sets on Stage One could be moved as filming required, The Rovers was the most important set of them all - always staying in the same place as it's required for almost every episode.

Lighting, Room, Interior design, Hardwood, Wood stain, Interior design, Light fixture, Picture frame, Cabinetry, Tavern,

Elsewhere in the studio, there are plenty of props and memorabilia to be found from storylines old and new - from Deirdre Barlow's glasses to the tram crash rubble and Roy Cropper's train set.

Yellow, Text, Font, Signage, Advertising, Gas, Banner, Poster, Sign,

Fans are also guided into the production suites for an insight into the responsibilities of the behind-the-scenes team who bring Corrie to our screens for five episodes each week.

Unsurprisingly, the highlight of the tour is the 'grand reveal' of the Street itself. Emerging from the door to Nick's Bistro, visitors are brought onto the cobbles and given free reign to explore Coronation Street and the surrounding area.

The Rovers, The Kabin, the Corner Shop, Roy's Rolls and the rest are all still standing at Quay Street as they were last year, so there are plenty of photo opportunities before the tour reaches its conclusion with a visit to the medical centre on Rosamund Street, which has now been transformed into a gift shop.

Building, Facade, Architecture, Brickwork, House, Brick,

With so much covered in the 45-minute tour, it's difficult to see how any fans wouldn't be impressed by the experience. As well as the obvious excitement of touring the show's famous locations, the attraction really does offer a strong insight into what life was like for the cast and crew as they worked on some of soapland's most memorable storylines at Quay Street.

Just don't let your visit spoil the illusion too much!

Brick, Architecture, Road surface, Infrastructure, Brickwork, Arch, Asphalt, Wall, Concrete, Composite material,

The Coronation Street tour runs until October 4 and tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

What's it like on the Coronation Street tour?

Coronation Street tours have been so successful at the ITV studios site at Trafford Wharf that they will return in 2019 - we take a tour to see what you get for your money

“The real world ends here,” says tour guide Jonny Grimshaw as he leads a group of 40 soap fans out on to the hallowed cobbles of Coronation Street.

There are audible gasps as young and old get their first glimpse of Manchester's most famous TV street, on the first visit of another busy weekend on the official Coronation Street tour.

One young lad sprints straight to Dev's corner shop to get a selfie, and then, when he sees all the rest of the group staring at him, apologises for his giddy enthusiasm.

Jonny laughs: "Don't worry, I've seen people kiss the cobbles before now. Some people even cry when they first walk out on to here."

For fans of the ITV soap, heading on to the set of the show can inspire plenty of emotions - and there's no doubting that on a sunny day in Manchester, the tour is a fun, interactive and quite special experience.

Click or swipe on the image below for a full gallery of images from the Corrie tour:-

Since tour operator Continuum announced the set visits in May, fans have been flocking to the ITV studios in their thousands each weekend on the £35-a-time tour.

Around 3,000 people get to head onto set each Saturday and Sunday, with tour dates announced up until November so far, although the MEN can exclusively confirm the tours WILL return for more weekends in 2019.

The tour starts by assembling at Dock 10 on Media City, where you meet your jovial tour guide and are given a brief history of Corrie's past 58 years on our screens.

It's then a short walk over the Manchester Ship Canal for the first stop on the tour - a photo opportunity with the huge Coronation Street sign outside the Trafford Wharf Studios that has been home to all things Corrie for the past five years.

coronation street tour guide jobs

Then it's on into the set through security gates. Jonny firstly points out the main reception to the ITV studios - where the majority of the interior scenes are filmed for the show.

We won't be allowed in there during our tour, but we get to hear some insider secrets from Jonny - like the fact the modern reception actually doubles up as the entrance to Weatherfield General Hospital.

Then it's what we've all been waiting for - our first glimpse of the famous terraced street and the iconic shops and businesses like Rita's Kabin, Dev's corner shop and Kevin Webster's autocentre.

You can dash up the steps of knicker factory Underworld, or peer in the window of Gail Platt's modern household - the scene of plenty of dramas over the years - without fear of being called a nosy neighbour.

coronation street tour guide jobs

Of the terraced houses on Corrie, none is as popular as number 9 - famously the house of iconic characters Jack and Vera Duckworth, who plastered the house with that hideous blue and yellow cladding 29 years ago.

coronation street tour guide jobs

I visit on the last weekend of tours for a whole month - as the set will be closed to visitors during October while filming of all the big Christmas storylines takes place.

But we do get a sneaky peek at the Christmas preparations - with fir trees lined up outside Dev's, twinkling festive lights already up in the trees and a cheery tyre snowman assembled inside Kevin Webster's garage.

Naturally, it's the Rovers Return, Corrie's iconic boozer, which becomes the focal point of the tour. Everyone waits patiently in line to get their "turn" posing in the doorway - and tour guide Jonny happily gets photos on people's mobile phones. This is also the moment you get your "official" photo on the tour.

coronation street tour guide jobs

There's also plenty of time to take your own selfies at this end of the street, and explore around the corner on to Rosamund Street and under the bridge to the seldom-seen Mawdsley Street.

Holly O'Driscoll and her mother-in-law Susan O'Driscoll were among those taking the tour on Saturday, and loving the whole experience.

Holly, originally from Sale, now lives in Australia but her family treated her to the tour when they knew she was back visiting home.

Primary school teacher Holly said: "I'm a massive Corrie fan and I still watch it in Sydney, we're only a few weeks behind on storylines.

coronation street tour guide jobs

"It's so surreal, I actually felt starstruck walking out on the cobbles today even though there's no stars around today! It's amazing. Having my photo outside the Rovers was my highlight."

The tours all take place on weekends so as not to disrupt filming schedules, and that is the reason why you're not allowed on any of the interior sets - if you accidentally toppled a vase it would cause havoc with continuity.

Continuum operated Corrie tours on the former set at the Old Granada Studios from 2014 to 2016 - after filming ceased there in 2013 to move to the brand new studios at Trafford Wharf. The sets there have since been bulldozed for new development.

But bosses believe the new tour, while not allowing any interior access, gives an unrivalled experience to soap fans.

General manager Simon Lord says: "For anyone who went on the old Corrie tour, that set was effectively a museum. But here, you are walking out on the real, live set that the actors have used just the day before to film.

"It's a different experience, it's a chance to come and walk on the street on the weekend, and then see the very same cobbles and houses on screen on Monday."

coronation street tour guide jobs

And it's also a chance to see the recently extended set which stretched onto Victoria Street - where Speed Daal, the urban garden, a tattoo parlour and the Costa Coffee shop and Co-Ops that were introduced on screen in April 2018.

Venture around a secret corner and you'll also get to see the most recent development - Weatherfield Police Station complete with full interiors.

Soap secrets

For dedicated Corrie fans, the tour is a chance to hear some behind-the-scenes secrets about how the show is filmed.

On my visit this included spotting the little wheels on the walls in the terrace backyards - so they can be moved in and out to film more easily.

Tour guide Jonny also told us how there's a green room for the show's stars inside the Kabin, and how everything inside the Co-Op is fake - even the very convincing sandwiches we could see were actually photos stuck inside boxes!

coronation street tour guide jobs

And no, you can't get a skinny latte inside the Costa Coffee on Victoria Street sadly.

There are no storyline spoilers, obviously, although we did spot a lot of scaffolding outside the old gym which may hint at some developments there to come...

Do you see any of the show's stars?

As the tours all take place on the weekend, there is no filming taking place on the street so you're unlikely to bump into Ken Barlow at the Kabin or Roy Cropper in Roy's Rolls.

However, we were told that sometimes cast do make an appearance on the weekend to collect scripts, and that they're always "very friendly" so you're told to keep your eye out for any celebrity sightings!

Can you go inside any of the houses or shops?

In a word, no. The tour is entirely of the exterior set of Coronation Street including the new Victoria Street. However, you do get to see inside Prima Doner and Preston's Petals which have sets inside.

coronation street tour guide jobs

You can peek through plenty of windows though, and are actively encouraged to have a nosy through the letter boxes!

But as the tour is exclusively outside, you're advised to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing as you'll do the tour whatever the weather. The good news is, since running the visits in May they've only had two rainy days!

When can you go on the Coronation Street tour?

Tickets are still on sale for tours on the weekends of November 3, 4, 10, 11, 24 and 25 and on December 1, 2, 8 and 9 in 2018, at time slots from 9am to 6pm. Tours start every 15 minutes through the day, with a maximum of 50 people on each tour.

The tours WILL resume again on selected dates in 2019, with bosses set to confirm the new dates in the coming month. Check back here for further information as we get it.

Tours can only be booked online, via the website coronationstreettour.co.uk

Is it worth it?

The tour costs £35 and you spend around 80 minutes on your visit around the street.

If you're a big Corrie fan, it's a fantastic chance to see all the iconic exteriors of the show - and of course photograph yourself on them. You can make like Liz McDonald and pose up a storm in the doorway of the Rovers, or perhaps re-enact a famous evil Phelan moment with a storming run down the cobbles.

You can take as many photos as you like, and you also get a free official photo at the end of the tour.

How to get cheaper tickets

You can also buy discounted tickets from wowcher.co.uk for a limited time. The offer is priced at £49 for two people, £74 for three people or £99 for four people on selected dates until December 9.

I thought overall the experience was average, there were some really good aspects but then some that let the tour down. The tour is value for money and reasonably priced. We did the star tour and it was fantastic to meet a star of the show and somebody who has been prominent in the storylines, the star was fantastic with everybody but it felt rushed and spending a-bit more time with them to ask the odd question would of made the experience even better. Overall that was a great experience and worthwhile. The other big positive is you get 15 minutes on the cobbles to explore and take photos at the various places seen in the show. Our tour guide was Alfie who did a great job, he’s a very good tour guide however I think the structure he has to follow is not great, I felt he talked too much at times but again that’s because he’s following a structure and script as such it would be much better if there was less talking at the stops, I also think the stop points on the tour were poor and better locations could be chosen by the tour providers Car parking and facilities were poor and needs improving however it looks like that’s currently being developed. Entrance to the tour was extremely poor, long queues down a road is not great, it takes sometime for everybody to get though. Really confused why the we stopped down an alley with old props that looked like a car boot sale, maybe if they had less items and only had ones that were really relatable to the show and identified. Gift shop was reasonably priced but not great. It felt really busy with not much time between tours so we had tours clashing and waiting for tours to Finnish, also because the tours are so close and volume of people it can become busy at times I think smaller groups would be better all round. In summary an average experience with some good elements but the old coronation tour was much better we seen some of the indoor sets and heard some good stories from the show which made it an all round better experience. I would recommend if your a fan of the show and never done the tour before but if you have been the old set then your not missing anything but again the star tour was a great addition Sorry it’s mainly negative but without valid feedback then it will never be improved.

Our guide, Elle, provided an excellent interactive experience, relating the street's history and testing our knowledge of it. She made it both an amusing and an informative tour. It's ninety minutes' worth of Corrie, with ample time to photograph the cobbles and learn some behind - the - scenes secrets.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to write a review! We're so glad you enjoyed yourselves!

Had a wonderful time. Shaun was full of knowledge and amazing jokes! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Will definitely go back again to see what changes are made to the sets. Wonderful day certainly reccomend to any corrie fans!

It was ok, was expecting a little more activities to do maybe for kids to see they were bored. But the tour guide was lovely and friendly

As a life long Corrie fan (l’m 65) the visit to the street was 5 star. And I enjoyed the experience overall. However:- 1) very overpriced in terms of value for money 2) unnecessarily dragged out. There seemed to be lots of waiting about at the entrance and in car parks with the guide trying to drum up enthusiasm that just was not there. 3) the star reveal turned out to be a damp squib in terms of the lead up the tour guide had given. Yes she plays a character that has had some high profile story lines but once revealed had absolutely nothing to say to us. You would think that these stars would prepare for the tours with a witty anecdote or 2 (and there are script writers who could help them - surely?) 4) The tour ends on a flat note. We were taken to see some props. To be honest just looked like what one might see in any one’s garage. And more standing about in a car park. Constructive feedback: end the tour on a high after the star reveal. Only use cast members who have something to say to the group who have paid a lot of money to see them. The alley with the props in adds nothing to the tour, rather it just leaves everyone glum because it is so underwhelming. Oh and can someone explain the purpose of the black lanyard everyone was given? Nothing to clip to it and we already had wrist bands.

Myself and my Parents attended the Coronation Street Tour Last Sunday.I am a wheelchair users so didn't know how my chair would cope on the cobbles but it was easier than I had imagined to get around.the tour guides were amazing and very Friendly and very funny.i would definitely love to do this Tour again and hopefully meet&greet some Cast members.ITV are very Very lucky to have two tour guides like Scott and Dave they added to the atmosphere of my trip. Kind regards Jennifer,Liz and Joe Barrett Cork,Ireland

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The Alexander Garden

  • The park is open every day and has no entrance fee

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

Ostankino Television Tower

  • Television and radio tower in Moscow

It takes just 58 seconds for visitors to reach the Tower’s observation deck by super fast elevator. The tower is open every day for long hours and is a great site in Moscow to check out! There is even a restaurant at the top where you can enjoy rotating views of the city while you dine on traditional Russian cuisine or European cuisine!

The tower is somewhat of an architectural surprise in a city that is not known for skyscrapers! To see the city from a new perspective, make sure to add this stop to your Moscow itinerary!

Izmaylovo District

  • The most popular attractions in this district are the kremlin and the flea market
  • Outside of the city center and easy to reach via metro

Travel outside the city center and discover a unique area of the city! The Izmaylovo District is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, and one of the coolest places to see in Moscow! The two main attractions we recommend checking out are the Kremlin and the flea market.

The Izmailovo Kremlin was established as a cultural center and molded after traditional Russian architecture. This colorful complex is home to several single-subject museums, including a Russian folk art museum and a vodka museum!

Izmaylovo District

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

You will find many hand-made and hand-painted options available at higher prices, as well as mass-produced souvenir options at lower prices!

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

  • Closed on Mondays
  • Filled with old arcade games that visitors get to try out!
  • The museum also includes a small cafe and burger shop

For something a little different, check out the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games! The museum features roughly 60 machines from the Soviet era, including video games, pinball machines, and collaborative hockey foosball! The machines inside the museum were produced in the USSR in the mid-1970s.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

Don’t Forget Your Travel Insurance for Moscow

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .
