You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.

Where is it located?

Kingston University is made up of four campuses. They can all be easily reached by walking or public transport. The university also provides a free inter-site bus that connects all the campuses.

Kingston upon Thames is a historic riverside borough located approximately 11 miles southwest of central London. It takes just over half an hour to get into the capital by train or for a cheaper but longer journey you can catch a bus.

FACT SHEET: President   Biden Announces New Actions to Keep Families   Together

Since his first day in office, President Biden has called on Congress to secure our border and address our broken immigration system. As Congressional Republicans have continued to put partisan politics ahead of national security – twice voting against the toughest and fairest set of reforms in decades – the President and his Administration have taken actions to secure the border, including:

  • Implementing executive actions to bar migrants who cross our Southern border unlawfully from receiving asylum when encounters are high;
  • Deploying record numbers of law enforcement personnel, infrastructure, and technology to the Southern border;
  • Seizing record amounts of fentanyl at our ports of entry;
  • Revoking the visas of CEOs and government officials outside the U.S. who profit from migrants coming to the U.S. unlawfully; and
  • Expanding efforts to dismantle human smuggling networks and prosecuting individuals who violate immigration laws.

President Biden believes that securing the border is essential. He also believes in expanding lawful pathways and keeping families together, and that immigrants who have been in the United States for decades, paying taxes and contributing to their communities, are part of the social fabric of our country. The Day One immigration reform plan that the President sent to Congress reflects both the need for a secure border and protections for the long-term undocumented. While Congress has failed to act on these reforms, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked to strengthen our lawful immigration system. In addition to vigorously defending the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals) policy, the Administration has extended Affordable Care Act coverage to DACA recipients and streamlined, expanded, and instituted new reunification programs so that families can stay together while they complete the immigration process.  Still, there is more that we can do to bring peace of mind and stability to Americans living in mixed-status families as well as young people educated in this country, including Dreamers. That is why today, President Biden announced new actions for people who have been here many years to keep American families together and allow more young people to contribute to our economy.   Keeping American Families Together

  • Today, President Biden is announcing that the Department of Homeland Security will take action to ensure that U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children can keep their families together.
  • This new process will help certain noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence – status that they are already eligible for – without leaving the country.
  • These actions will promote family unity and strengthen our economy, providing a significant benefit to the country and helping U.S. citizens and their noncitizen family members stay together.
  • In order to be eligible, noncitizens must – as of June 17, 2024 – have resided in the United States for 10 or more years and be legally married to a U.S. citizen, while satisfying all applicable legal requirements. On average, those who are eligible for this process have resided in the U.S. for 23 years.
  • Those who are approved after DHS’s case-by-case assessment of their application will be afforded a three-year period to apply for permanent residency. They will be allowed to remain with their families in the United States and be eligible for work authorization for up to three years. This will apply to all married couples who are eligible.
  • This action will protect approximately half a million spouses of U.S. citizens, and approximately 50,000 noncitizen children under the age of 21 whose parent is married to a U.S. citizen.

Easing the Visa Process for U.S. College Graduates, Including Dreamers

  • President Obama and then-Vice President Biden established the DACA policy to allow young people who were brought here as children to come out of the shadows and contribute to our country in significant ways. Twelve years later, DACA recipients who started as high school and college students are now building successful careers and establishing families of their own.
  • Today’s announcement will allow individuals, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers, who have earned a degree at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education in the United States, and who have received an offer of employment from a U.S. employer in a field related to their degree, to more quickly receive work visas.
  • Recognizing that it is in our national interest to ensure that individuals who are educated in the U.S. are able to use their skills and education to benefit our country, the Administration is taking action to facilitate the employment visa process for those who have graduated from college and have a high-skilled job offer, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers.

PGA TOUR University On TOUR:  John Pak, Frederik Kjettrup add to alumni victory count

PGA TOUR University

Change Text Size

Two PGA TOUR University alumni – and also Florida State alums – won last weekend, with John Pak winning the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship and Frederik Kjettrup winning in his debut on PGA TOUR Americas at The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist. It marked the first time two PGA TOUR University alumni won on the same weekend, and alumni have now combined for 21 professional victories since the first class turned pro in June 2021.

The story was similar on PGA TOUR Americas – Kjettrup built a three-shot cushion through three rounds, and a long birdie putt on No. 17 in the final round proved to be the difference in a one-shot victory over Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira . Though Kjettrup made his pro debut at the U.S. Open, he joins Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Ricky Castillo as alumni who won his first start on his member tour.

On the PGA TOUR, Michael Thorbjornsen made his professional debut at the Travelers Championship after finishing No. 1 in the PGA TOUR University Class of 2024. For the first two rounds, Thorbjornsen was paired with Ludvig Åberg , the top player from the Class of 2023, and he carded a second-round 64 to enter the weekend T24. Thorbjornsen closed with rounds of 66-70 and finished T39.

Also last week, the final men’s Olympic Golf Ranking was published, and three PGA TOUR University alumni were among the 60 qualifiers. Ludvig Åberg (Sweden), Adrien Dumont de Chassart (Belgium) and Kevin Yu (Chinese Taipei) qualified to make their Olympic debuts and represent their countries at Paris 2024, August 1-4 at Le Golf National.

Entertainment | boulder garden tour returns to its mapleton hill roots with flourishing fauna — and funds for a fruitful foundation.

For the past two decades, minus a two-year pandemic hiatus, the annual Boulder Garden Tour has educated the wider community on all things green — from sustainable gardening practices to fostering pollinator habitats, the tour offers a chance for attendees to connect with nature, learn from local experts and steal some garden inspo for their own backyards.

Formerly called the Whittier Mapleton Garden Tour, the event took place in the University Hill neighborhood for years, but this year will return to its Mapleton Hill roots. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, in honor of its 20th anniversary, the Boulder Garden Tour invites guests to spend a sunny Saturday exploring private gardens and homesteads on a self-guided tour in the historic neighborhood (where the tour took place in the early 2000s).

But the Boulder Garden Tour is more than just a mere educational stroll around Mapleton Hill: The event also serves a philanthropic purpose, with all proceeds benefiting Garden to Table, an organization dedicated to empowering Boulder County’s youth through hands-on garden education. By snagging a ticket to the Garden Tour, participants contribute directly to garden management, curriculum development and training for over 6,000 students annually across 16 local schools. From north Boulder, south to Broomfield, and from the foothills east to Lafayette, Garden to Table provides experiential, garden-based learning for students.

“There’s a lot of excitement to bring the tour back to Mapleton Hill, both from tour-goers who have been to the past events, and from homeowners who are excited to show off their homes and gardens again,” said Lindsey LeCuyer, executive director at Garden to Table. “Mapleton Hill is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Boulder, and anyone who has ever been in that area knows that there is some pretty spectacular gardening going on.”

Indeed, it’s hard to walk around Mapleton Hill without craning your neck to get a peek into the backyards of some of the iconic Colonial Revival and Victorian-style homes in the neighborhood. For a $27 ticket, guests can get up close and personal with the gardens — and save themselves some neck pain.

Mapleton Hill resident Tila Duhaime is thrilled to invite tourgoers into her garden. An avid gardener and New York City transplant, Duhaime said she inherited her green thumb from her grandmother.

“My grandma was born in the (Great) Depression era and the Dust Bowl, where growing your own food was a way to survive,” Duhaime said. “She taught me everything she knew.”

Duhaime said she believes that garden and agricultural education have disappeared in modern America — which is why organizations like Garden to Table are vital in rekindling interest among students and children.

“Americans have a pretty long history of gardening for themselves that has vanished,” Duhaime said. “This lack of understanding of the lifecycle of plants and where your food comes from is a little alarming to me. Organizations like Garden to Table aren’t just teaching people, but also indoctrinating the youth — normalizing gardening, imparting understanding on where food comes from and teaching kids how to listen to plants and nurture them.”

She added: “Plants can’t talk, but it’s a different kind of communication — plants will tell you if they’re happy by their leaf color, or by the kind of fruit they are bearing, or the quality of their blooms. Learning how to care for, listen to and live in symbiosis with plants is essential to the human species. A lot of Americans these days are so separated from that. So programs like [Garden to Table] is, in my mind, remarkable — and essential to a complete education.”

Duhaime’s verdant love and understanding of plants is evident throughout her garden — which she tends alongside her husband Steven Phillips. In a quarter of an acre, their planted area garden includes two side gardens of shade-loving plants, a front garden with wild grasses and perennials and a terraced backyard garden. Their gardens are all fed by a low-water demand system called drip irrigation.

Guests can peruse all four garden areas, though the crown jewel of Duhaime’s garden is perhaps the rear garden, planted on a steep hillside in stone terraces. The lush space is dotted with fruit trees, one large berry patch, spring bulbs and a dedicated vegetable bed, with various other plants sprinkled throughout.

Duhaime’s approach to gardening is both welcoming and laid-back — she and her husband use no pesticides and allow plants to grow where they feel comfortable, creating a diverse, abundant, and harmonious space that attracts everything from painted lady butterflies to broad-tailed hummingbirds.

“I tend not to pull things up unless they are dandelions or invasive weeds,” Duhaime said. “But some things pop up all over that I just let grow, even if I didn’t plant them there originally — like right now, there’s some oregano that migrated over that is just thriving. And in one area, there’s an iris that’s decided to come up between two stones. Throughout the whole garden, a lot of my plants are volunteers — if they have decided they want to grow there, then fine. They’re welcome to live there, as long as they can survive. It creates a gorgeous ecosystem.”

Garden tour guests can look forward to seeing outdoor spaces that vary from rigidly manicured, to more loosely enforced, like Duhaime’s, and everything in between. In addition to touring the gardens, visitors will also be treated to what Garden to Table calls “edutainment” —  a mixture of education and entertainment on topics related to sustainable gardening and yard care, such as native plants, backyard birds, regional seed banks, soil health, beekeeping and pollinator habitats. Food trucks and refreshments will be on site throughout the tour, because garden touring is always more fun on a full stomach.

Garden to Table is a nonprofit that is an official partner of Boulder Valley School District and provides garden designs, seeds and seedlings, irrigation repair, garden check-ups, teacher and parent volunteer training, community workdays, teaching supplies, online scheduling tools and all necessary curriculum resources to each partner school.

Garden to Table also works closely with district curriculum staff to ensure its modules align with district academic priorities and schedules. The nonprofit received a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant in 2022, which expires on Sunday.

Lecuyer said the past two years of the grant allowed Garden to Table to completely update its curriculum and to offer three or four lessons per year, as opposed to formerly offering only one lesson per season.

Second graders, Bailey Kerning, left, and ...

“We have had an overall 45% increase in student touchpoints with the garden since implementing this new curriculum, and at our Title 1 schools we had a 185% increase in student visits to gardens,” Lecuyer said. “In 2023, 96% of teachers reported students experienced an increase in physical activity, exposure to vegetables and nutrition concepts and positive states of mind.”

In addition, Lecuyer said the funding helped support a garden educator to lead lessons, rather than having an overworked school teacher take on the curriculum.

Lecuyer said through events like the Boulder Garden Tour, the nonprofit hopes to raise enough funding to continue to grow the Garden Educator program.

“Our goal is to eventually grow the program so that there can be garden educators not just at our Title 1 schools, but at every school,” Lecuyer said. “We want to be able to grow our budget and grow our staff so that everyone has access to a meaningful educational and hands-on experience with cultivation.”

PGA Tour players' belief in selves gets a boost at 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

kingston uni tour

Cameron Young paused for a moment before he politely asked for the exact definition of "imposter syndrome."

It's not that Young didn't want to answer the inquiry — when did he shed his imposter syndrome and prove to himself that he belonged on the PGA Tour? — he simply wanted "to make sure I don't sound stupid."

By the dictionary? A behavioral health phenomenon that causes people to doubt their own skills, accomplishments, or intellect, despite evidence of their success. Put more simply, it's this recurring thought: There's no way I really belong here.

"Oh, yeah, I think it’s gradual,” Young said Thursday at Detroit Golf Club, a few minutes after he finished with a 5-under 67 to sit tied for second at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic , ahead of the afternoon wave. “I was fortunate early on to have some good finishes that, at least golf-wise, makes you think there’s no reason you shouldn’t be out here. I’d imagine it’s the same for Nick.

“I know he hasn’t played his best golf since (the win) but he’s going to have that as proof that he can play well out here, so it’s just a matter of doing what he does.”

WATCH: Nate Lashley makes hole-in-one in first round of 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

That "Nick" is Nick Dunlap, a 20-year-old who as recently as January was a sophomore at the University of Alabama.

Of course, he's no longer a student in Tuscaloosa; that ended when he earned a sponsor's exemption to The American Express in La Quinta, California, then went out and shot 29 under par (which included a tournament-record 11-under 60 on Saturday) to win it.

That made him the first amateur to win on tour since Phil Mickelson took the Tucson Open in 1991 and the second-youngest winner on the PGA Tour in the past 90 years. (The only younger winner? Jordan Spieth, who won the 2013 John Deere in his final weeks as a teen.)

But since Dunlap accepted his Tour card and moved toward living out his dream full-time, reality has been less pleasant: In 14 starts, Dunlap hasn't finished higher than a tie for 11th (in late March). He missed the cut at the Masters, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, with just four finishes under par and two in the top 20.

Needless to say, Dunlap's 67 on Thursday morning, leaving him tied with Young, one stroke back of early leader Aaron Rai, was exactly what the doctor ordered.

"I haven't started very well the last couple weeks, so that's nice," Dunlap said. "Swing felt really nice today coming out pretty early morning. I drove it great, ironed it nicely. Clean up on some speed work around the greens, but overall very, very impressed with the way I kind of navigated around today."

Dunlap, who opened his round on the back nine, got going with a 7-foot birdie on the par-5 14th, then followed with another birdie in 15 as he put his tee shot inside of 8 feet, then sunk the putt.

After a par at 16, Dunlap reached the par-5 17th green in two, then just narrowly missed a 22-foot eagle putt before tapping in to get to 3-under. That's where he sat when he caught fire at the turn.

The 20-year-old putted for four birdies in a row — an 11-footer on No. 1, a 10-footer on No. 2, a 13-footer on No. 3 and then a 9-footer on No. 4 — to get out in front of the entire pack at 7-under.

ROCKET MORTGAGE CLASSIC 2024: TV channel, stream, key tee times, leaderboard

"I still wouldn't say it's normal yet, it's been a bit of a whirlwind," Dunlap told the Free Press, describing the past six months. "It's a dream to be out here, it really is. I knew it was going to be a bit of an adjustment, some things I had to get better on. I saw that in college, and it was only going to be magnified when I got out here.

"I've just been trying to look at it as going through this little rough stretch is the best thing for me in the long run. I'm learning as quickly as I can."

That included lessons on the next two holes: On No. 5, Dunlap short-sided himself in the green-side bunker then, after failing to get up-and-down, blew his bogey putt by the hole as well. He found the fairway and the green on No. 6, but couldn't make a 5-footer for par, dropping three strokes in two holes.

Finally, Dunlap made a 13-foot birdie putt on No. 8 and parred No. 9. The final tally: eight birdies, seven pars, two bogeys and one double bogey.

It's ironic that Young was the one discussing Dunlap's staying power, considering the Alabama native has done something Young hasn't: Win on tour.

It's not that Young's not close, or not an elite player. He entered the Rocket sitting No. 34 in the Fed Ex Cup standings and No. 23 in the world rankings — the highest-ranked competitor in the Rocket field. Young has made 15 of 16 cuts this year, complete with six top-25s, five top-10s and a runner-up finish.

But back to the original question — Young harkened back to 2022, and to an event that helped him off the course.

"The Presidents Cup was really nice for me because I got to sit around the same table as some of the bigger names in the game," Young said. "To be considered in that group, even for that week, was cool for me and made me more comfortable, personally."

Dunlap, Young noted, doesn't seem nervous.

"I've spent a little bit of time with him the last little bit, had lunch with him a few times. ... He seems older than he is," Young said. "I feel old saying this, but every group who comes out is younger and younger. ... It's not a shock to see guys that are performing on their level."

Something that is a shock? Miles Russell, the 15-year-old phenom playing the Rocket on a sponsor's exemption.

Russell parlayed a top-20 finish on the Korn Ferry Tour earlier this year into an exemption at Detroit Golf Club —and a pass on the rule that hangs in the DGC clubhouse: Players must be 16 years of age or older to play.

And yet, he may be too young to have imposter's syndrome. In making an unprecedented early PGA Tour debut, an argument could be made that though he can't collect any winnings, he's the only one playing with house money.

"The more you can get out here and experience it, it definitely makes it easier when you try to do it for a living and for your job,” Dunlap said. “I was fortunate to have one or two starts, not at 15, but early. It’s nerve-wracking, but he's obviously got a ton of talent."

Dunlap would've collected $1.5 million for his win had he not still been an amateur, but he's not bitter about that. Living out his dream one day at a time, Dunlap said he never could've imagined his time with the Crimson Tide would be done in less than two years.

To be fair, it's not done done. He still lives in Tuscaloosa; earlier this month, he moved into a new one-bedroom apartment, though it's in the same building as nearly the entire Alabama golf team.

His hope is to have time in the fall to get to go to some football games — the Huntsville, Alabama, native is still a bit upset about Michigan's Rose Bowl win over the Tide — but business comes first. He has proven he can win at this level; he just has to prove it to himself again.

"I think people are starting to see that, maybe not week-to-week, but college kids are good enough to compete out here," Dunlap said. "The more we get that opportunity early on to get comfortable early on and learn about these golf courses the better.

"Maybe then it's a little easier, a little more comfortable when we get there later."

Travis Kelce: Sam LaPorta Best Tight End at TEU

John maakaron | 4 hours ago.

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta

  • Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is expected to have a significant role in Ben Johnson's offense this upcoming NFL season.

With a record-breaking rookie season, the 2023 Detroit second-round pick has caught the attention of others across the league, including future Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce.

At the recently completed 'Tight End University' camp, hosted by Kelce and George Kittle, the Chiefs standout tight end was asked his opinion of who was the best attendee.

"LaPorta had a (expletive) year last year," Kelce expressed, while praising the Lions offensive weapon and stamping the 23-year-old as the best player he saw during the three-day camp.

Not giving away tells

After a successful rookie season, the former Iowa Hawkeyes tight end is working on his blocking technique and not giving away tells when running routes.

While fans, the media and pundits are expecting an encore performance, LaPorta is not putting any undue pressure on himself. Instead, the focus is on making improvements with grasping the details of the position.

“Certainly the blocking aspect. I’m trying to throw my hands, play a little bit lower in the run game," LaPorta said. "And then, in the receiving game, trying not to give so many tells in my routes, crossing over, late hands catching the ball. Just a few things.”

Travis Kelce was asked who the BEST TE is at TEU His Answer: Detroit Lions TE Sam LaPorta “LaPorta had a f*cking year last year…” 🎥: @BussinWTB | #OnePride pic.twitter.com/6vbC2Un5oD — Crunch Time Sports (@officialctpod) June 28, 2024

Kingston School of Art, Knights Park (KT1 2QJ)

First-class art facilities.

Situated in central Kingston, yet tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood on the banks of the Hogsmill River, the picturesque Knights Park campus has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Its size and location make it more intimate than the larger sites, with Kingston School of Art providing a creative and artistic feel.

The hub of the campus and home of Kingston School of Art is the Mill Street Building , which recently underwent a major refurbishment. Stirling Prize-winning architects, Haworth Tompkins , identified the best characteristics of the existing site while transforming the interior. They created more light and made better use of the space so that students on courses with natural symbiosis can collaborate more easily. It now houses new workshops and studios, packed with first-class facilities where the next generation of designers, architects, journalists and photographers hone their craft.

The University's Stanley Picker Gallery is also based at Knights Park. The gallery has a broad programme of exhibitions and events by artists, designers and Kingston students.
