Perfect Travel Insurance

Perfect travel insurance beginning to end and even a small email in the week prior to travel to tell me to have a good holiday. Easy to purchase and simple to understand. Ian offered a service that included my son on the policy and clear travel documents. Recommended and five stars given with pleasure. Thank you TravelTime Travel Insurance. Will purchase again.

Really like using Travel Time

Really like using Travel Time, competitive prices, communication is superb and information is regularly updated via email. It's also refreshing that after your holiday the company emailed me with claims number just in case I had needed to claim. I've booked again for next year.

Date of experience : 10 March 2024

Pre existing condition holiday insurance

I have a pre existing medical condition and it was very easy to get a reasonable quote for holiday insurance. Received documents and advice on what to do in case of emergency or making a claim along with useful telephone numbers. I like that you receive regular emails, feels more personable.

I have used Travel Time on a few occasions now. They are consistently well priced and easy to use. I also receive the regular emails and they are not only informative but fun too!

A Good Company

I have always used Travel Time Insurance for Holiday Insurance and have always found it competitively priced. Although I can comment on their claim process as thankfully we have never had to claim.

Always use TravelTime for our holiday insurance. Great value, feel the policy is tailored to our needs. Also love the communication e-mails that keep us informed of any travel changes we may need to know. We don't bother shopping around for travel insurance just head straight for TravelTime.

Competitive cost for pre-existing health conditions

We have used TravelTime twice now and have our next holiday insured with them too. My husband has pre-existing conditions which are all covered at a very competitive price. Thankfully we have never had to make a claim, (always a bonus). On our return, we get a welcome back email, which I think is a lovely touch. I highly recommend.

Date of experience : 13 November 2023

Good Service

I used TravelTime insurance last year (2023) having found them through Confused.com. Imagine how surprised I was to find they were based in my home city. Fortunately I did not need to make a claim so cant comment on that side of things. Phoning their customer services I got to speak with a real person in 1 minute 30 seconds, which I thought was good. We have found TravelTime to be very competitively priced and have bought our holiday insurance through them again this year. We recommended TravelTime to relatives who are holidaying with us this year and they have purchased a policy as well.

Travel Time Travel Insurance simply the best

Travel Time Travel Insurance was a perfect choice for me as a transplant recipient with additional health needs. It was by far the cheapest and clearest policy to use for my holiday in Portugal. Really impressed with the service. Thank you . Highly recommend. Will use again

We took out travel insurance through these and were unfortunate enough for my partner who is on the policy also to get food poisoning whilst on holiday. The claims process is impossible they divert us to csal who will not pay out even on a valid claim. All we get is we need more information which even though they have the information they requested twice they say the email came through blank. I believe this is a rip off. Please avoid unless you don’t like your money any longer

Bought from this company before and again for my next holiday. Customer service contact is excellent, haven't needed yet but good to know they keep in touch.

We have been using Travel Time…value for money

We have been using Travel Time Insurance for a few years without any problems. I chose this company after looking for many hours at other website companies. After declaring medical needs it was still a reasonable price which we were happy with, hence I booked a holiday and have used ever since. Also you are kept updated with useful emails on a regular basis.

Date of experience : 14 May 2023

Do not get travel insurance with this company…

Do not get travel insurance with this company! Our son contracted impetigo on holiday and the doctor advised and gave us evidence that he must not go to the pool / communal areas. This is definitely a travel insurance claim but of course they found a way to get out of paying! Avoid at all costs!! You will not be covered!

Date of experience : 06 October 2023

Your claim sounds like it was for ‘loss of enjoyment’ which I’m afraid isn’t covered by our policies or by any travel insurance provider in the UK. If I’m wrong then please contact me via the office so that I can investigate this further. Kind regards, Darren @ TravelTime

Terrible service

Terrible service, when my flight was delayed over 12 hours I expected a claim to be a straight forward process. They fob you off to CSAL who are impossible to speak to and are it seems employed just to avoid a pay-out. When you try to speak to TravelTime Insurance they are also uncontactable unless you're speaking to sales who can neither help or put you through to claims.

Quan was wonderful!

Quan was wonderful! He helped me purchase travel insurance for my son. He took his time to explain everything as I am a first time buyer and a worrier mom! Quan was very patient with all my questions. I received the emails he promised right after our conversation. He is a true asset to Travel Insurance! I wish more representatives are like him.😊

Bettye- excellent employee

Bettye Ridley made my experience with Travel-insurance outstanding! Her ability to connect with customers is unfounded in this day and age. She was so pleasant and so helpful. She personally helped me correct a couple of mistakes I had made. I think Bettye deserves a $500 gift card 😊 I will certainly refer her to friends and family. Arlene Shea

FIVE STARS PLUS!!!

FIVE STARS PLUS!!! (not sure this posted the first time I tried) I had the pleasure of dealing with Bettye Ridley who was one of the most helpful, knowledgeable and friendly customer service agents I have ever dealt with. It was like talking to an old friend. Bettye is a real asset to your group. She really knows her stuff and instills confidence and comfort with obtaining trip insurance. Bettye is miles ahead of other agents at other companies. She is the best. You should pass on my these remarks (and give her a bonus or a raise.) Janice/Janbird

My experience was great because of the Superb Customer Service!

My experience was great because the agent, named Betty, was very helpful, knowledgeable, polite and patient. This type of customer service is invaluable, however, is hard to find these days. So, when you experience it, you have to take the time to report it and share it. Evidently you invest well in your employees and in turn they enjoy their work and are happy employees. Thank you!

Bettye Ridley did an extraordinary job of finding me the best priced travel insurance that met all my needs. When I actually purchase my trip, I will then purchase my travel insurance from her. She found John Hancock's Silver travel plan the best for my age and being able to cancel for any reason at the best price for the quality offered.

Exceptional Service Agent

This was the first time that my wife and I contacted Travel Insurance Services to obtain information about their vacation coverage plans. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased to have such a nice agent assist us. Bettye was polite and knowledgeable. She provided us with many options that she felt would meet our needs. Bettye H. Ridley was Great. She took the time to make sure we understood the coverages on the policy. It wasn't until that time that she asked us if we wanted to purchase the plan. No pressure! I highly recommend that you request Bettye to assist you with your travel Insurance needs. Bettye, We look forward to speaking with you in the future! Thanks for your help! Stan and Gina Vitale

Great Service from Bettey at Travelinsurance.com

Bettey Ridley was my agent at Travel Insurance.com. She was professional & patient. My interaction with her made me feel like a valued client. I had a lot of questions regarding a pre-existing medical condition policy which I ended up purchasing and I purchased an upgraded Travel Guard policy as well. I will spread the word that Bettey is my "go to gal" for travel insurance. She's a "keeper".

Marvelous experience

Marvelous experience. I spoke on the phone today with Bettye Ridley. I am a teacher. Unfortunately, in the background I had several rowdy 4th grade students in the classroom. There were only nine of them but they made enough ruckus for twenty of them! Ms. Ridley remained professional and informative. She offered me helpful information that I never knew! AND she even held on for awhile when I had to separate two students from one another. I highly recommend Ms. Ridley for any potential customer or any employee trainee.

Terrific and helpful agent

I had a great agent named Bettye Ridley when I called to get insurance coverage on a vacation home that I was preparing to rent in 2024. Although I didn't end up buying a policy through her, she helped me understand what was available and the best way to approach the insurance. The policy I ended up with was offered by the actual rental company and, although slightly more money, just seemed less of a hassle. However, if I ever need insurance in the future, I will reach out to Bettye. She was very helpful!

Thanking Ms Bettye Ridley for helping with obtaining the right travel insurance!

The agent Ms. Bettye Ridley helped me in obtaining a medical travel insurance and saved me money for this. I have an international travel insurance from the credit card I used to purchase my ticket and I did not know that you can do this. I saved money just buying from Travel Insured Protector Worldwide medical travel insurance only under Travelinsurance.com. Thanks a lot for your help!

You buy a policy

You buy a policy, good luck in getting a question asked or a body to assist. They don't assist in refunds and push you to eternal hold with the insurance company they sold you. Your on your own once you pay the premium. Just another internet service that has no customer care......

Date of experience : March 23, 2020

Dear John, We sincerely apologize for the long wait times you've experienced trying to reach one of our insurance carrier partners. All of our travel insurance carrier partners are experiencing significantly higher call and email volumes from customers concerned about the Coronavirus. The insurers do not give us the power or ability to handle refunds (they can only do it from their internal systems), and if they did, we would do it swiftly for you. We understand your frustration and can offer some suggestions. Many of our partners have a live chat capability on their websites, which may offer a more immediate contact. You may also email many of our providers at their customer service email contacts. We do care deeply for our customers and understand long wait times when calling an insurance company can be super frustrating. Unfortunately, this is an unprecedented situation where the Coronavirus has caused millions of people to all be contacting the insurance companies at the same time, which is overwhelming their systems. Have a nice day and please stay safe and healthy! Best, Emilia TravelInsurance.com

Adding a medical condition…

I had to add a recent medical condition to my policy. I was nervous about the process and the possible unanswerable medical questions that I might face. These fears were unfounded, a very nice approachable lady on the telephone took me through the process. It was surprisingly easy and there was no additional cost to my premium.

Diabolical Excuse of a Company

Diabolical Excuse of a Company! Complete Rip Off Firm. After almost two months of waiting this Shower of Cowboys have eventually sent me a quarter of what I was expecting. No Breakdown of how this Disgusting Figure was reached. I stupidly took out full insurance which has not been reimbursed. The day before my Family & I were due to travel I was rushed into hospital with Kidney Stones & told by the Consultant there is no way I will be able to travel. The villa I had booked was £1220 on its own. The car hire was £560. Never mind the flights & parking never mind the cost of this Insurance. I have received just over £600. This is a loss of just short of £2000. Spoke to someone after another massive wait on the phone who could not understand how this was worked out Either. He said all he could do was resubmit this back to the Underwriters. Another wait of at least 6 weeks. I feel sick about this dreadful underhand service. This is what you take insurance out for.

No claim made but good experience so far

As with any insurance it is difficult to give a full review until you make a claim... if you ever have to do one. However, a review based on my experience to date would be five star. I like the approach they take to engaging you and signing up was as easy as could be. The price I believe to be great too.

Unlike other recent reviews, I have no complaints at all. I had to cancel at very short notice due to illness and my claim was paid in full. All in all, very happy with the service and would use them again without hesitation.

Registering for One trip Cover

Registering for One trip Cover, to Ireland, was easy. Not the cheapest price but, I thought it reasonable. Just hope nothing happens during our five days visit and won’t have to claim for anything. Possibly going to Brazil in Oct, and may try to get their prices for our two weeks stay.

SquareMouth travel insurance review 2024

Compare dozens of top travel insurance companies in minutes..

thumbnail

Squaremouth is an online travel insurance marketplace that's helped over 3.5 million people buy policies since 2003. It offers dozens of providers, including many of our top picks — like Nationwide , Berkshire Hathaway Travel Insurance and Travel Insured International . We love how simple the platform makes it to compare multiple providers and get details about each. And the unique zero-complaint guarantee means SquareMouth will remove a provider if you have an issue that's not adequately resolved.

Squaremouth Travel Insurance

The best way to estimate your costs is to request a quote

Policy highlights

While not an insurer itself, Squaremouth is a travel insurance marketplace that can help you quickly compare costs and coverage for a travel insurance policy. It offers annual and single trip policies from top providers including Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, Tin Leg, Generali and more.

24/7 assistance available

  • Allows you to quickly and easily compare dozens of travel insurers
  • Coverage from many top travel insurers is included
  • Specialty coverage available for cruises and adventure sports
  • Doesn't directly offer insurance policies since it's a marketplace

SquareMouth review

Policies offered by squaremouth, squaremouth pros and cons, squaremouth customer satisfaction, how do i buy travel insurance through squaremouth.

Squaremouth provides quotes for several different kinds of policies, including:

Single trip travel insurance

As you might expect, these are short-term policies intended to cover one trip . The coverage is more comprehensive than an annual travel insurance policy, with rates based on a percentage of your costs , typically between 4% and 8%.

Annual travel insurance

If you expect to travel a lot in a year, this policy can simplify things by putting all your coverage in one place. It varies by provider, but multi-trip policies usually cover travel delays, lost luggage and medical expenses.

Cruise travel insurance

The best cruise insurance policies include:

  • Travel to and from your port of call
  • Coverage at sea
  • Trip delays, interruptions or cancellation
  • Delayed or lost baggage
  • Emergency medical care and evacuation

Adventure and sport travel insurance

Many standard travel insurance policies don't cover high-risk activities like skydiving, skiing and scuba diving. SquareMouth includes providers who offer coverage for extreme sports, adventure travel and more.

Flight insurance

flight insurance can help you recoup costs that aren't reimbursed by your airline, like cancellation due to a family member's death or a job loss. It only covers the flight, however, not accommodations or rental cars,

Group travel insurance

If you're a large family heading to a wedding or coworkers going on a business trip, group travel insurance can be a lot cheaper than buying multiple individual plans.

To qualify for a group policy with Squaremouth, you'll need to have 10 or more U.S. residents all going to the same destination within the same timeframe.

Medical travel insurance

Your health insurance may not cover medical care if you're abroad. A medical travel policy can pay for doctors' visits, hospital stays and even an emergency evacuation if you unexpectedly get sick or injured.

Consider these factors before buying a travel insurance policy through Squaremouth

  • Many well-known providers. Squaremouth works with dozens of insurers, many of which are praised for reasonable rates and excellent customer service.
  • Simple comparison tool. You can view three quotes in an easy-to-view grid, making it easy to compare price, coverage and customer ratings.
  • Zero complaint guarantee. SquareMouth will mediate complaints with your insurer and, if the issue isn't resolved satisfactorily, will remove that provider from its platform.
  • No markup. Squaremouth doesn't add fees to the prices of the providers on its platform.
  • Slow to respond to complaints . While SquareMouth received a respectable A- from the Better Business Bureau , it cited the length of time it takes to respond to complaints as the reason for not giving it a perfect score.
  • No 24/7 customer service. Representatives are available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. That can be frustrating if you're traveling in another time zone and need help.
  • Promotes its brand in searches. Tin Leg, a provider founded by SquareMouth in 2014, appears at the top of most search results. You can then filter by price, popularity or other categories.

SquareMouth 's zero-complaint guarantee means it advocates for customers if their travel insurance claim is rejected. If the issue isn't resolved satisfactorily, SquareMouth will remove that provider from its platform. The SquareMouth website isn't particularly flashy but it's very easy to navigate and you can get quotes just by providing basic information about yourself and your trip.

You do need to work with the travel insurance company that issued your policy to file a claim or resolve any issues, however. And SquareMouth customer service representatives are only available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET daily. If you're in a different time zone and need help, you'll have to wait.

In addition, the site received an A- from the Better Business Bureau . That's a very respectable grade but the length of time SquareMouth takes to respond to complaints was cited as the reason it did not receive an A+.

To buy a policy on SquareMouth , you'll want to first get a quote by inputting:

  • The ages of all travelers
  • Total trip cost
  • Travel dates
  • Countries being visited

You'll receive sample prices from dozens of companies, which you can filter by price, popularity, most recently purchased and other categories. When you're ready to enroll, you can hit the "buy now" button.

From there, you'll finalize the details about the people on the policy, your destination and dates and then purchase the policy. You'll receive a confirmation email after your purchase.

Is squaremouth travel insurance legit.

SquareMouth has been an online insurance marketplace since 2003 and it works with many top companies in the industry. It received an A- from the Better Business Bureau.

How much does travel insurance cost?

Travel insurance typically costs between 4% and 8% of your trip's total cost, according to the U.S. Travel Insurance Association . Prices can vary based on your age, destination and the length of your trip.

Does travel insurance get more expensive the closer you get to your departure date?

While it's best to get a policy as soon as possible, the cost won't increase as your departure date nears. You can typically buy a policy up until the day before your trip.

What does travel insurance not cover?

Most travel insurance doesn't cover foreseeable events, like known storms, epidemics or acts of war. Pre-existing conditions and dangerous activities may require special policies to be covered.

Very user friendly site. Good communication and reasonable price for policy. Felt very secure going on holiday knowing we had good cover from Traveltime. Will definitely be using again and would recommend.

It took some time, but I was warned that it would and there was an excess to write off but we knew that when we took out the policy. All in all, very happy with the service and would use them again without hesitation.

Top 10 Digital Nomad Travel Insurance Plans (2024)

A re you a digital nomad looking for the best travel insurance at the best price? You’re in the right place. I’ve been a digital nomad for over a year. I know how important travel insurance is.

I also know that, while this isn’t something to skimp on, you also don’t want to overpay. It’s a tricky balance.

I’m a huge over-planner and I’ve thoroughly researched travel insurance. Every year when my policy expires, I re-check the options to make sure I’ve got the best plan.

Don’t have time to read all this and just want the bottom line? My number one favorite travel insurance is SafetyWing . They have comprehensive coverage and consistently high ratings.

I’ve had to use my travel insurance more than once. The last time was when my dad was very sick in the hospital and I had to fly to California, losing out on a lot of pre-paid, nonrefundable flights and accommodations.

I’d like to say that story had a happy ending. While it did have a good ending for my dad (he’s recovered and doing great!), I had the wrong type of plan and lost $3,000. My insurance was essentially worthless for what I needed.

I don’t want anyone to have that same experience. I’ve rounded up the 10 best plans so you can choose the one that’s right for you. Learn from my mistakes so you don’t throw your money away.

Pro tip: Bookmark this site for next year. I update it yearly so it always contains the most up-to-date info.

What is Digital Nomad Travel Insurance?

Digital nomad travel insurance is tailored to meet the unique challenges and risks that come with the nomadic lifestyle.

Unlike regular travel insurance, these specialized plans often offer comprehensive medical coverage. This includes not just emergency care but also routine check-ups, dental services, and even mental health support.

But it’s not just about health. These plans also consider the flexibility digital nomads need. Many offer the option to extend your coverage if you decide to stay longer in a destination or even to buy coverage while you’re already abroad.

Some even cover adventurous activities, from scuba diving to mountain climbing, because let’s face it, a digital nomad’s life is never just 9 to 5.

So, while it might not be as thrilling as booking your next one-way ticket, securing the right travel insurance is a must for any digital nomad. It’s not just another item on your to-do list; it’s peace of mind, and that’s priceless.

What Should I Look For in Digital Nomad Insurance?

Okay, you know digital nomad insurance is a must-have. But with so many options out there, how do you pick the right one?

Here’s a breakdown of what you should be looking for in a digital nomad insurance plan:

Worldwide Coverage

You’re a global citizen, and your insurance should be too. Make sure the plan you choose offers worldwide coverage, so you’re protected no matter where your travels take you.

Pre-Existing Conditions

Got a chronic condition or a recurring medical issue? You’ll want a plan that covers pre-existing conditions, so you’re not left in a lurch when you need medical care.

Emergency Assistance

Look for a plan that offers 24/7 emergency assistance. Whether it’s a medical emergency or legal trouble, you want to know there’s a lifeline you can call anytime, anywhere.

Emergency Medical Insurance

Accidents happen, and when they do, you’ll want robust emergency medical coverage. This should include hospital stays, surgeries, and even medical evacuation if needed.

Emergency Evacuation

Speaking of evacuation, make sure your plan covers the cost of getting you to the nearest medical facility in case of an emergency. Trust me, you don’t want to foot that bill yourself.

Trip Cancellations and Delays

Flights get canceled. Plans change. Look for a policy that will reimburse you for any pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses if you have to cancel or delay your trip for a covered reason.

Baggage Loss

Losing your luggage is a bummer. Choose a plan that offers coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged baggage to save yourself a headache later.

Equipment Protection

As a digital nomad, your laptop and other gadgets are your lifeline. Some plans offer specialized coverage for electronic equipment, so check if that’s an option.

Reasonable Prices

Budget is a big deal when you’re living the nomad life. Compare prices and make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck. But remember, the cheapest option isn’t always the best.

Quick Insurance Claim Process

Last but not least, check out reviews to see how quickly and easily you can file a claim. The last thing you want during a crisis is a complicated, drawn-out claims process.

  • Limited Flexibility : Allianz’s packages are fixed, meaning you can’t customize them to fit your unique needs.
  • Pricey Plans : While they offer a range of services, their plans are on the higher end of the price spectrum. This is especially true for older travelers .
  • Pre-Trip Purchase Required : You have to buy the insurance before you embark on your trip, which might not be convenient for everyone.
  • No COVID-19 Coverage : In the current global situation, the lack of medical emergency coverage related to COVID-19 can be a significant drawback.

10. Integra Global

Overview of integra global.

Integra Global is a go-to for digital nomads seeking long-term, comprehensive international health insurance.

Unlike typical travel insurance that covers lost luggage or trip cancellations, Integra Global focuses solely on medical coverage. And we’re not just talking about emergency care; they also cover routine health exams, dental services, mental health, and even chronic conditions.

If you’re a digital nomad looking for something more than just emergency medical coverage, Integra Global might be your match.

Integra Global Pros & Cons

  • COVID-19 Coverage : They offer coverage for COVID-19, although conditions do apply. So, make sure to read the fine print.
  • Flexible Deductibles : Once you’ve paid your yearly deductible, you’re covered 100%. You can choose your deductible, ranging from around $1,000 to as high as $5,000, to fit your budget.
  • Freedom to Choose Providers : Integra Global doesn’t tie you down to specific hospitals or doctors. You can get treated by any licensed medical provider.
  • Pre-existing Conditions : For an additional cost, you can get coverage for pre-existing conditions. That’s a rarity in the insurance world.
  • Comprehensive Medical Coverage : They offer a much higher amount of medical expenses per year compared to standard travel insurance plans.
  • No Travel Benefits : If you’re looking for lost luggage or trip cancellation coverage, you’ll need to purchase separate travel insurance.
  • Long-Term Commitment : Policies are available only for a year or more, so it’s not ideal for short-term travelers.
  • No Direct Billing : You’ll have to pay medical providers upfront and wait for a reimbursement, which can take up to 10 days.
  • Cost Considerations : While the coverage is comprehensive, remember that the pricing is for medical insurance only. It’s more like a health plan you’d have at home, including wellness visits and routine check-ups.

So, if you’re a digital nomad planning to be on the road for an extended period and want comprehensive healthcare coverage, Integra Global is worth considering.

Final Thoughts: Digital Nomad Travel Insurance

Now that we’ve taken a deep dive into the world of digital nomad travel insurance it’s clear there are a lot of options out there.

After trying a few different travel insurance providers, my top pick is SafetyWing Insurance. They’ve consistently received high ratings and offer a variety of plans that cater to the unique needs of digital nomads like us.

From personal experience, I can tell you that having the right travel insurance is a game-changer. But here’s the kicker—you’ve got to read the fine print. I learned this the hard way.

When I first dipped my toes into the digital nomad lifestyle, I bought an annual policy thinking I was all set. What I didn’t realize was that it only covered trips up to 30 days. So, when I had to file a claim because my dad got sick, it was denied.

Why? Because I was away from home for four months. My one “trip” exceeded the 30-day limit, making my policy pretty much useless for my digital nomad lifestyle.

Yep, this was all in the policy information. It was entirely my own fault.

So, take it from someone who’s been there—make sure you know exactly what you’re getting into before you hit that “purchase” button. Trust me, it’ll save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Key Features and Benefits

Trawick International travel insurance offers several plans for different types of travelers with different needs. The coverage levels and premiums will vary depending on the traveler's age, trip costs, and destination.

Below is a list of six travel insurance plans Trawick offers with its Trip Protection plan:

Additional Coverage Options

Trawick International travel insurance offers additional coverage options on specific plans. Some come with no extra charge. Others cost extra. And only some policies allow for these additional coverage options.

Additional coverage options include:

Rental car damage coverage:  It's possible to add this coverage to certain plans from Trawick, like its Safe Travels First plan. This coverage will reimburse damage to a rental car up to an allowed amount.

Pre-existing condition coverage:  Pre-existing condition waivers are available if you purchase travel insurance within seven to 21 days of booking your flight, depending on the policy.

CFAR coverage: "Cancel for any reason" coverage can only be added to Trawick's Armor, Journey, Voyager, First Class, Flex, and Rental Plus plans. This add-on allows travelers to cancel their trip, for any reason, up to two days before departure and get 75% of trip costs reimbursed. CFAR coverage is only available for US residents and US citizens.

How Much Does Trawick International Cost?

Getting a quote from Trawick is a straightforward process. You can visit its website or use an insurance comparison site like Squaremouth.

You must provide traveler and trip details like your date of birth, state of residence, destination, and trip costs. With this information, you should be able to get quotes for the different plans available almost instantly.

Below are a few real-world examples of coverage options and costs from Trawick as of April 2024.

For example, let's look at what it would cost to insure a 35-year-old resident of Ohio spending $8,000 on a two-week trip to France. Below are the costs for each of the six different coverage options.

The cost of coverage ranges from the bottom-tier Safe Travels Explorer plan at $257.04 to the top-tier Safe Travels First Class policy for $453.33. That equates to about 3% to 6% of the total trip cost, which is on the lower end when compared to the average cost of travel insurance .

Now let's look at the cost of coverage for a 55-year-old from Colorado traveling to Argentina and spending $6,000 on a three-week trip.

The premiums for this traveler are higher, but that's to be expected given their age. The lowest-cost Safe Travels First Class plan costs $243.23 and the top-tier Safe Travels Voyager costs $574.14. That represents a cost of between 4% and 9.5% of the total trip cost, higher than the previous example but still within industry averages.

Lastly, we'll look at the premium costs for a 45-year-old resident of Texas traveling to Fiji for two weeks and spending $7,000 on the trip.

The lowest cost plan in this scenario is the Safe Travels Explorer plan, which runs $284.28. And the most expensive is the Safe Travels First Class, at $405.54. You're paying between 4% and 5.8% of the total trip cost at these prices. Again, that's right on track with the averages in the travel insurance industry.

Trawick International travel insurance has several different claims departments and forms, so how you file a claim will vary depending on the coverage you purchase.

You can find claims forms and contact information on Trawick's claims forms page. That's where you'll find information regarding where to mail or email your claim form and contact information for the appropriate claims group.

Reviews on SquareMouth and Google say the claims process can take up to several months and require constant hassling. To avoid additional issues with the claims process, be sure to keep thorough documentation of any unexpected costs incurred during travel. Additionally, you should be as specific as possible when filing a claim.

Trawick International vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

Allianz and Trawick International travel insurance are similar in offering several different coverage options.

Allianz offers 10 travel insurance plans, including one-off and multi-trip policies. So you'll have options whether you're looking to cover a specific trip or plan to take multiple trips a year. Of course, the different plans offer varying levels of coverage, and the premiums depend on the traveler and trip specifics.

Allianz's most popular single-trip travel insurance option, the OneTrip Prime plan, offers up to $100,000 in trip cancellation coverage, up to $150,000 in trip interruption coverage, $50,000 in emergency medical coverage, up to $1,000 in coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage, and up to $800 in travel-delay coverage.

Trawick's most comparable plan is its Safe Travels Explorer Plus plan, which offers up to $100,000 in trip cancellation and interruption coverage, $50,000 in emergency medical coverage, up to $750 for personal effects, and trip delay coverage of $500.

The best way to decide which company to go with is to compare quotes using your specific trip details and personal information, as those are the details that will affect the cost the most.

Trawick International vs. Nationwide Travel Insurance

Nationwide is a household name when it comes to insurance providers and one of the most well-known and recognized insurance firms in the US. By providing just two single-trip options, the Essential and Prime plans, Nationwide travel insurance has made it simple to find coverage. Nationwide also offers yearly trip insurance for those who travel a lot throughout the year, as well as cruise-specific plans and annual trip insurance.

To compare the two companies, we'll put Nationwide's Essential plan beside Trawick International travel insurance's middle-of-the-road Safe Travels Single Trip plan.

Nationwide's Essential Plan provides up to $10,000 in trip cancellation coverage, up to $250,000 in emergency medical evacuation, up to $150 per day ($600 maximum) reimbursement for travel delays of six or more hours, and coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

In comparison, Trawick's Safe Travels Single Trip plan offers 100% of the insured trip (up to two times the trip cost) in trip cancellation coverage, $350,000 in emergency medical evacuation, and up to $200 per day ($600 maximum) for travel delays of 12 or more hours, and lost and delayed baggage coverage.

So, this particular plan from Trawick offers slightly higher coverage limits for most of the coverages compared.

The high-tier Prime Plan from Nationwide offers even more coverage, including up to $30,000 in trip cancellation, up to $1 million in coverage for emergency medical evacuation, up to 200% of the trip cost (maximum of $60,000) in trip interruption coverage, and $250 per day for trip delays of six or more hours.

To compare, Trawick's highest-tier Safe Travels Voyager plan comes with trip cancellation coverage of up to $100,000, up to $1 million in emergency medical evacuation, up to 150% of the insured trip cost for trip interruption, up to $2,000 maximum reimbursement for travel delays, and coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

Comparing these two policies, you see how it's somewhat of an apples-to-oranges comparison, as some coverage limits are higher or lower. And don't forget that the coverage premiums will vary depending on the traveler and trip specifics.

Trawick International vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance Benefits

Be sure to compare the coverage of travel insurance plans with the coverage offered by your rewards credit cards before purchasing a travel insurance policy. Some basic coverage, like rental car insurance, could already be available through one of your existing cards.

If you're on a road trip and all your expenses are refundable, or if your health insurance covers you while abroad and you don't think you'll have many medical bills, the coverage from your credit card may be sufficient.

It's also worth noting that in most cases, credit card travel protection is only supplementary to a travel insurance policy. This implies you'll have to file your claim with the other relevant insurance (such as the airline) before filing a claim with your credit card company.

  • How much does Travelers car insurance cost?

Travelers car insurance costs $1,681 per year on average for full coverage insurance . That is almost $300 a year less than the average national annual rate of $1,982. Travelers’ rates are cheaper than most other companies we analyzed rates for, with only American Family , State Farm and USAA offering cheaper annual full coverage rates. Although USAA has cheaper rates on average than State Farm, it sells only to former and active military members and their families.

These rates are for a 35-year-old driver with a clean driving history and good credit with full coverage insurance. Our full coverage rates include liability, comprehensive, collision and any additional insurance a state requires a driver to have. These rates are averages, and your own price will depend on your driving history, car make and model, location and other factors.

If you’re looking for the cheapest auto insurance rates possible, you may want to buy the minimum car insurance needed to drive in your state. Read our cheap car insurance article to see average minimum car insurance rates by company and state.

  • How Traveler's rates compare

Your car insurance rate is determined by a variety of factors, including your driving record and credit history in most states. California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Michigan don’t allow insurers to use credit when determining car insurance rates.

Here are Travelers’ average annual auto insurance rates compared to 2024 national averages for full coverage insurance and four driving profiles.

  • Travelers auto insurance coverage

When you're shopping for car insurance coverage, it's important to understand what car insurance coverage you want and what you’re required to buy. For instance, most states require a minimum amount of car insurance to drive a vehicle. Alternatively, if you want extra protection, you may be interested in full coverage insurance. Read about the most common types of car insurance coverage to see how they work.

Beyond the standard coverage, Travelers offers additional auto insurance options:

Gap insurance protects your auto lease or loan. If your car is totaled before it’s paid off or the lease is up, Travelers pays the difference between your loan’s balance and the car’s value when it’s totaled.

Rideshare insurance is available in Illinois and Colorado for people who drive for companies like Uber or Lyft. Rideshare insurance covers you from the moment you turn on the rideshare app up until you pick up a passenger, then your rideshare company’s insurance is in effect.

Premier New Car Replacement can benefit you if your car is totaled and is 5 years old or newer. This coverage pays to replace the car with a new one, once you pay any applicable deductibles, plus includes gap insurance to pay off any loan or lease balance when the car is totaled. If your car’s glass needs to be repaired, enrolling in this program means you could have a lower deductible.

Responsible Driver Plan forgives one accident and one minor violation over a specified period, so your rates won’t go up after a crash or ticket.

The Premier Responsible Driver Plan includes the above accident and violation forgiveness perks, as well as a decreasing deductible ($50 off for every six months accident-free, up to $500 off your deductible). If your car is totaled, your deductible is waived in this program.

Travelers also offers non-owner car insurance , which provides liability coverage for drivers who don’t own a car, but still regularly drive.

First time shopping for auto insurance? Unsure of where to start? Check out our guide on how to shop for car insurance .

  • Pricing based on tracked driving habits

IntelliDrive uses an app to track your driving speed, the time of day, phone use, and braking and acceleration habits for 90 days. It’s available in 42 states and Washington, D.C. At renewal, you can get a discount of up to 30% for good driving.

Travelers also offers IntelliDrivePlus, which provides a rate at each renewal period based on driving behavior that’s tracked throughout your entire policy term. It’s only available in Arkansas, Nebraska and Ohio.

Your rates could go up if you have risky driving habits (except in certain states) for both programs.

  • Complaints and customer satisfaction

Travelers had fewer than the expected number of complaints about auto insurance to state regulators relative to its size, according to three years’ worth of data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Travelers received an overall satisfaction score of 80 out of 100 from a pool of its customers in a NerdWallet survey conducted online in June and July 2023. To put that in perspective, the average score among seven insurers was 78, and the highest was 82.

However, Travelers ranked near the bottom of the pack for both shopping [0] J.D. Power . 2023 U.S. Insurance Shopping Study . View all sources and claims satisfaction [0] J.D. • Methodology

Insurer complaints methodology

NerdWallet examined complaints received by state insurance regulators and reported to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 2021-2023. To assess how insurers compare to one another, the NAIC calculates a complaint index each year for each subsidiary, measuring its share of total complaints relative to its size, or share of total premiums in the industry. To evaluate a company’s complaint history, NerdWallet calculated a similar index for each insurer, weighted by market shares of each subsidiary, over the three-year period. NerdWallet conducts its data analysis and reaches conclusions independently and without the endorsement of the NAIC. Ratios are determined separately for auto, home (including renters and condo) and life insurance.

Auto insurance ratings methodology

NerdWallet’s auto insurance ratings reward companies for customer-first features and practices. Ratings are based on weighted averages of scores in several categories, including financial strength, consumer complaints and discounts. Our “ease of use” category looks at factors such as website transparency and how easy it is to file a claim. Using our editorial discretion, we also consider customer satisfaction surveys. These ratings are a guide, but we encourage you to shop around and compare several insurance quotes to find the best rate for you. NerdWallet does not receive compensation for any reviews. Read our editorial guidelines and full ratings methodology for auto insurance .

2024 auto insurance survey methodology

The opt-in survey of 7,514 adults age 18 and older was conducted online by Russell Research on behalf of NerdWallet in June and July 2023. Respondents were asked to rate one auto insurance brand they obtained or renewed a policy with within the past 12 months. These brands were rated on overall satisfaction, overall value, online experience, trustworthiness, mobile app experience, claims experience and customer support on a scale of 1-100.

Only brands with 100 or more qualifying respondents are reported. Of those respondents: 301 were State Farm customers, 300 were Progressive customers, 300 were Allstate customers, 300 were Geico customers, 140 were USAA customers, 125 were AAA customers, 105 were Liberty Mutual customers, 103 were American Family customers, 104 were Farmers customers, 104 were Travelers customers and 104 were Nationwide customers.

Average rates methodology

NerdWallet averaged rates based on public filings obtained by pricing analytics company Quadrant Information Services. We examined rates for men and women for all ZIP codes in any of the 50 states and Washington, D.C. Although it’s one of the largest insurers in the country, Liberty Mutual is not included in our rates analysis due to a lack of publicly available information.

In our analysis, “good drivers” had no moving violations on record; a “good driving” discount was included for this profile. Our “good” and “poor” credit rates are based on credit score approximations and do not account for proprietary scoring criteria used by insurance providers.

These are average rates, and your rate will vary based on your personal details, state and insurance provider.

Sample drivers had the following coverage limits:

$100,000 bodily injury liability coverage per person.

$300,000 bodily injury liability coverage per crash.

$50,000 property damage liability coverage per crash.

$100,000 uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage per person.

$300,000 uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage per crash.

Collision coverage with $1,000 deductible.Comprehensive coverage with $1,000 deductible.

We used the same assumptions for all other driver profiles, with the following exceptions:

We changed the credit tier from “good” to “poor” as reported to the insurer to see rates for drivers with poor credit. In states where credit isn’t taken into account, we only used rates for “good credit.”

For drivers with one at-fault crash, we added a single at-fault crash costing $10,000 in property damage.

For drivers with a DUI, we added a single drunken-driving violation.

We used a 2020 Toyota Camry L in all cases and assumed 12,000 annual miles driven. We analyzed rates for drivers of the following ages: 20, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60 and 70.
