Protoje shares how he has found inner peace over the pandemic in his new song and video “Hills”. Seeking restoration and seclusion, the Jamaican wordsmith has had time to realign with nature’s gifts and cut off the outside noise. Boasting a vibrating Jamaican dub baseline fused with hip-hop, the hard-hitting anthem (produced by 8TRACK & IV The Polymath) is a precursor of what’s ahead for Protoje. “Hills” is the first single off his summer album, out via In.Digg.Nation Collective / RCA Records.
Its video, directed by Samo, gives us an inside look into his domain and his journey to wellness. Set high above sea level in the hills of Jamaica, The Habitat is where the artist calls home. From fresh air, herb, fruit and water to daily runs and meditations in the hilltops, the openness of his tropical surroundings provide a sense of clarity—to feel without distractions.

Born and raised in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica to singer Lorna Bennett and former calypso king Mike Ollivierre, Protoje blends hip hop, soul and jazz into his native sounds of reggae and dancehall. The musical prodigy, along with a collective of fellow artists, began getting mainstream attention for their addictive melodies and conscious lyrical messages in a movement dubbed the “reggae revival.” Publications such as VOGUE, Rolling Stone and The FADER have declared him one of the brightest talents out of Jamaica. His catalog consists of the following studio albums: Seven Year Itch (2011), The 8 Year Affair (2013), Ancient Future (2015) and A Matter Of Time (2018) and In Search Of Lost Time (2020). As a producer, he receives a co-credit for Rock & Groove Riddim (2019). His studio album A Matter Of Time earned him a GRAMMY nomination for Best Reggae Album and his national U.S. TV performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, both in 2019. He has toured with Ms. Lauryn Hill and appeared on major festivals including Coachella (US), Glastonbury (UK), Afropunk (US), Reading & Leeds (UK), Sole DXB (Dubai) and Lollapalooza (Chile), reaching audiences far and wide with his genre-fusing sound. In 2020, the musician signed an unprecedented major deal with RCA Records in partnership with Six Course Records and his label and management company In.Digg.Nation Collective. Under the RCA deal, Protoje brokered individual album deals for himself as well as rising female artists Lila Iké, Sevana and Jaz Elise. He has received praise from the likes of NYLON and Uproxx for In.Digg.Nation Collective’s forward-thinking sound. He performed on NPR Tiny Desk and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert #PlayAtHome and graced one of i-D magazine’s digital covers for Spring 2021. In 2022, Protoje will release his 6th studio album.

Protoje’s Lost in Time Tour w/ Jesse Royal & Lila Ikè Coming to Denver, CO
Protoje’s Lost in Time 2022 Tour will be making a stop in Denver, CO, at Cervante’s Maseterpiece with support from the one and only “Small Axe” Jesse Royal and Lila Ikè. On Sunday September 25, 2022, we will get the chance to see three of the top names in Jamaican reggae music today all under the same roof. Many Colorado reggae fans got to see Protoje put on a spectacular performance at Reggae on the Rocks in 2019 and many others were lucky enough to see Jesse Royal at Cervante’s earlier this year, where he shared the crowd with some of our favorite local acts. To our knowledge, this will be the Lila Ike’s first performance here in Colorado. So we have make sure it is a memorable one!
Jesse Royal
Jesse Royal was born in St. James Parish, Jamaica, and belongs to the Easy Star Records record label, under which he released his first two albums, “Lily of da Valley” (2017) and “Royal” (2021).
As one of the driving forces behind the so called “reggae revival” movement, Jesse Royal has already amassed a considerable fan base across the world, including here in CO.
Lila Ike is a Jamaican singer and songwriter who first signed with Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation record label label in 2017. Protoje has acted as a musical mentor for her over the years, with both artists appearing on several of eachother’s tracks and with Lila opening for Protoje on his last US tour.
Lila Ike’s debut album, “Never Leave” was released in 2020 and she continues to guest vocals on tracks from other big name reggae artists.
We can only hope that we will see all three on stage together for a song or two during this show.

Protoje Drops New Single 'Family' Ft. Jesse Royal & Shares Tour Dates
Protoje's new album will drop in September.
Protoje is making his rounds. The Jamaican artist's 2020 album was entitled In Search of Lost Time, and he is back on the road to do just that. The Grammy-nominated vocalist has been performing the album live for the very first time since the pandemic, almost two years after its release.
LATEST NEWS
Fresh from his sold-out European tour and U.S. festival stops - running the gambit from Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival to the Roots Picnic - Protoje will return to the states this fall for The Lost In Time Tour. Fellow Jamaican artists and comrades Jesse Royal and Lila Iké will join him on his headlining tour. See full dates below.
In celebration of this announcement, Protoje aptly drops his new single and video "Family" featuring Jesse Royal. The iotosh-produced bop is the third single, following "Hills" and "Incient Stepping," from his anticipated sixth studio album slated for release in September 2022 via In.Digg.Nation Collective/RCA Records. Stay tuned for details within the coming weeks.
Protoje keeps his pack tight and ignites an inviting energy on "Family." The video, directed by SAMO, showcases his loved ones in a series of vignettes. The stand-out visual features Protoje, Jesse Royal and friends rolling through the streets of L.A. in candy-coated classic cars.
"This song started out as a positive meditation about being back on the road. Then once I said the word "family" it changed the tone, because I started to think of how loosely we use the word family in Jamaica. I thought about how many people I call family, who did not really deserve that reference. Family are those who you can count on in your times of need, those who are there for you at your lowest.
The last two years have shown me who my family is. Jesse was a perfect fit for this song. He has this amazing energy about him that uplifts you. We have a close relationship that has developed steadily over the years, so it's going to be awesome for us to tour together this fall," states Protoje.
Protoje is one of the forerunners of reggae's new generation. Known for his innovative spirit and genre-bending sound - blending reggae with hip hop, R&B, dancehall, dub and afrobeats - he has been a consistent force in Jamaican music over the last decade. Since his 2014 breakthrough hit "Who Knows" ft. Chronixx (approaching 175 million YT views) to his 2018 Grammy-nominated album A Matter of Time to an unprecedented record deal in 2020 with RCA Records via Six Course Music for his label In.Digg.Nation Collective, Protoje continues to break new barriers and execute his vision.

Jesse Royal
Jesse Royal is an internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, performer, and recording artist from Kingston, Jamaica. Through vivid storytelling rooted in the belief of a universal truth, his music carries a message of hope, strength, love, and consciousness. Not just a musician, Royal is a father, a community activist, a thought leader, and a global citizen guided by his spirituality and sense of righteousness.
Born in the spring of 1989, Jesse spent his early years in the hills of Maroon Town and the District of Orange in St. James before moving in the late 90’s with his mother and brother to join his father in Kingston. As fate would have it, Royal developed a special relationship with Daniel ‘Bambaata’ Marley (son of Ziggy Marley) at school. His friendship with Marley proved to be fuel to the fire as they shared a deep passion for music and football. As these cubs became lions, so grew their devotion to music. With the help of longtime friend Curt ‘Qban’ White, they began composing and creating their own music. And together they proceeded to fulfill what they knew was a predestined musical journey, designed to inspire, engage, and unite people beyond all geographic borders.
Over the course of his career, Jesse Royal has been blessed to collaborate and create with some of the world’s most respected artists, musicians, and producers, including Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Protoje, Chronixx, Noise Cans, Steve Aoki, Damian Marley, Major Lazer, and many others.
In 2017, Jesse Royal began his relationship with the internationally-known label Easy Star Records, releasing his debut album, Lily of da Valley, which he co-executive produced along with Lamar “Riff Raff” Brown. The record featured legendary musicians Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Donald Dennis, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, and Monty Savory. The album was received with critical acclaim and topped the Billboard Reggae Album charts.
In 2019, Jesse Royal released “LionOrder” featuring Protoje (produced by GRAMMY-nominated producer Sean Alaric), followed by the single “Natty Pablo” in 2020, as part of the roll-out for his highly anticipated full-length sophomore album, Royal, slated for June 2021.

Reggae Hero Protoje Returns From the ‘Hills’ With Fierce New Music
By Mankaprr Conteh
Mankaprr Conteh
One of the titans of modern reggae is back. Protoje — the Grammy-nominated singer, rapper, and label chief — has dropped his first solo release in more than a year with “Hills,” an ode to peace, nature, and frankly, being left the hell alone. “This song narrates what the last two years have been like for me, living in the mountains while the world was on lockdown,” Protoje says in a statement. “Connecting with the simplicity that exists here and being inspired with what I see surrounding me.”
“Hills” is made up of tittering drums and slick flows that lean heavily into rap. “We are much more experimental than our predecessors,” Protoje says of he and like-minded “reggae revival” artists like Koffee and Chronixx . “We’re influenced by hip-hop , rock, pop music, with a reggae base underneath it.”
In the video, set in the hills of Jamaica, two women ask locals to point them in Protoje’s direction, seeking out the mountainous retreat where he enjoys a brisk jog, a mug of beverage, and the company of a bevy of goats. Before the out-of-place looking pair can find him, he’s taken off in a helicopter overlooking the majestic green terrain.
With “Hills,” Protoje announces that his sixth album is coming this summer via In.Digg.Nation Collective and RCA Records. Protoje founded In.Digg.Nation Collective in 2014 and the company is now home to fellow Jamaican artists Lila Iké and Jaz Elise. In.Digg.Nation received support from RCA through a deal announced in 2020.
Protoje will also tour North America and Europe this summer, with dates including Bonnaroo , the Roots Picnic , and the California Roots Festival. His full tour calendar is yet to be announced.

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. The judge said, "Considering the undisputed evidence presented by the defense, the extreme nature of the news coverage in this case, and the smaller population in Latah County, the defense has met the rather low standard of demonstrating 'a reasonable likelihood' that prejudicial news coverage will compromise a fair trial in Latah County. Thus, the Court will grant Kohberger's motion to change venue for presumed prejudice."
The new location was not immediately clear. The decision will be left up to Idaho's highest court.
Lawyers for the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, pushed to move the trial to Boise, arguing the local jury pool in Latah County, which encompasses Moscow, was tainted by pretrial publicity.
Defense lawyers surveyed Latah County residents and said their results found that the "pressure to convict" Kohberger was shown to be "so severe" that the venue couldn't be impartial.
The defense said one respondent answered they would "burn the courthouse down" if he were not convicted. The same survey, according to the defense, found "much less emotional" responses from people living closer to Boise, which is about 300 miles south of Moscow.
The prosecution has said the case has national and international interest, and that the case has been covered plenty in Boise, so a change of venue would not solve any problem.
Moscow Mayor Art Bettge said in a statement in August that, if the case stayed in Latah County, "I firmly believe people would be able to set aside any personal feelings they have ... set aside any information they may have read or heard ... and make a determination of guilt or not guilty based on the evidence presented in the courtroom and deliberate according to the instructions provided to them."
The trial is set to begin on June 2, 2025, and run until Aug. 29, 2025. The judge said in June that if the venue changed, the trial date would still hold.
Kohberger is accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students in an off-campus house in the early hours of Nov. 13, 2022. Kohberger was a criminology Ph.D. student at nearby Washington State University at the time.
Kohberger was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary.
A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
