This eight day Catholic Pilgrimage to Lourdes visits one of the most sacred sites in the world where Apparitions of Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary, occurred. Lourdes is a special place of grace where Pilgrims attend Mass, go to Confession, and pray the Rosary in nightly candlelight processions. Walk in the footsteps of St. Bernadette in the very places where she lived and prayed. In 1858, St. Bernadette witnessed eighteen apparitions of Our Lady who revealed herself as the “Immaculate Conception”. In one of these miracles, Our Lady asked Bernadette to drink from the spring as an act of penance which resulted in the spring’s muddy water turning clear. Since then, Pilgrims have been visiting the beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes seeking healing and conversion from the Lourdes baths. Almost every part of the Shrine is accessible by wheelchair. Six million pilgrims visit this holy place of healing each year!

Pilgriamge Information

Know Before You Go

Day 1: Depart for Lourdes

Make your way to your local airport, where you will board your overnight flight(s). Your meals will be served on board.

Day 2: Arrive in Lourdes

Upon arriving at Pau or Toulouse airport, make your way to the baggage claim area and collect your luggage. Proceed to the arrival hall, where you will be greeted by your tour guide and/or driver. You will embark on a scenic drive to Lourdes. Check in to your hotel, and relax or explore before dinner. Following dinner, you will have free time to pray the Rosary and attend the candlelight procession (April – October only). These processions are lit by candlelight and guided by the Most Holy Rosary. Following this prayerful experience, you will return to your hotel for an overnight.

Days 3 & 4: Lourdes (Guided)

Over the next two days, you will stay in a small town nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains. During your time in Lourdes, you will have the opportunity to pray and meditate in a site of Our Lady’s apparitions. Our Lady first appeared to Bernadette in 1858 and announced herself as “The Immaculate Conception” near the Grotto of Massabielle. During the first two apparitions, little Bernadette prayed the Rosary with Our Lady and left without exchanging any words. During the following apparitions, Our Lady emphasized God’s love for us and the necessity of performing acts of penance for sinners. Throughout your time in Lourdes, you will have the opportunity to attend Mass at the Grotto where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette. Watch a video presentation that explains, in detail, the story of Lourdes. Participate in the gesture of the miraculous spring by washing your hands and face, as well as drinking the water. Finish with a short prayer: Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. St. Bernadette, pray for us. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to experience Christ’s unconditional love as you meditate upon the life-size Stations of the Cross that overlook the Grotto of Massabielle. In Lourdes, you will walk in the footsteps of St. Bernadette. Your group will have the opportunity to see Boly Mill, the birthplace of St. Bernadette, and the “Cachot,” an abandoned prison where Bernadette’s impoverished family lived. Each evening following dinner, you will have an opportunity to attend the candlelight procession and pray the Rosary before a restful overnight.

Days 5 - 7: Lourdes

This pilgrimage was designed for those who would like to pray, reflect, and spend more time in Lourdes. As a result, your itinerary is planned accordingly. The first three days will be sightseeing with your group, Spiritual Director, and Tour Guide. The following three days will be dedicated to private prayer and reflection. During this part of your trip, you will have complete discretion over how your time is spent to have the most spiritual experience possible. *Please note, that there will not be a Spiritual Director or Tour Guide with you for the last three days. However, English Mass will still be offered daily at the Basilica in Lourdes.

Day 8: Return Home

After an early breakfast, your group will leave by motor coach and transfer to the Toulouse or Pau airport for return flights home.

About your trip

About lourdes:.

She came for you and for everyone of us! 6 million pilgrims come to Lourdes each year and 10,000 visit this site daily. At the foot of the Pyrenees mountains in southwestern France, nestled between the spectacular mountain river, Gave de Pau, is Lourdes, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the World. Lourdes is the birthplace of St Bernadette to whom Our Lady appeared in 1858 near the Grotto of Massabielle. Our pilgrimage and tour of Lourdes includes visits to the sanctuary and the Basilica of St Pius X, the world’s largest underground Church. Drink from the spring that the Virgin directed Bernadette to locate at the base of the Grotto, which has flowed uninterrupted since 1858. Wash yourself in the baths where hundreds of miraculous cures have taken place. Contemplate Christ’s Passion as you pray the unique three-dimensional Stations of the Cross. Attend the blessing of the sick, and participate in nightly candlelight processions requested by Our Lady. Daily Mass, and Mass at the Grotto on Sunday will be followed by a video presentation telling the miraculous story of Lourdes. Visit Lourdes and experience a spiritual journey from which many have claimed healing and conversion.

What is a Christian Fellowship Package?

Have you been on a vacation that was not a blessing because you did not travel with other Christians? This list of Christian Packages is simply a means for you to enjoy the friendship, Bible study, and encouragement that you gain when traveling with people of like mind and faith. Many group leaders offer study tours and private group packages as well.

Reserve your tour at least 6 months in advance for an Early Booking Discount

Groups and parties of 6 or more click here for special rates, scheduled tours, christian tours: frequently asked questions.

Are there opportunities for spiritual enrichment and worship during the tours?

Yes, there will be opportunities for spiritual enrichment and worship during our Christian tours. You’ll get to visit and learn about sites that played a key role in the stories of the Bible and Christian history. These experiences also give you a chance to learn more about the world and the different cultures that have shaped it.

What type of accommodations can I expect during the tours?

Most of the tours we offer are all-inclusive, which means airfare, lodging, and most meals are included in the price of your tour. This includes everything from Ireland tours to cruises and tours of Alaska. You can find individual itineraries and tour details for each of our tour packages on our website, and you can contact us if you have any questions.

What safety measures are in place for travelers?

We can’t guarantee your safety, but we do take traveler safety seriously. Safety is a top priority with all of our Christian travel groups. We work with destination management companies who prioritize/commit to safety, and we’ve built strong relationships that allow us to provide an incredible experience whether you book one of our Europe or U.S. tours .

Are meals provided during the tours? Are dietary restrictions accommodated?

We provide meals and other accommodations during most of our tours, but you should check the details on our website before booking your tour. Hotels may also provide various options that can accommodate different types of diets, allergies, and other restrictions.

Can I customize my tour itinerary to include specific religious sites or activities?

We offer several Christian tours, so you can choose the tour that piques your interest. Some of our tours — including Italy and Greece tours and cruises —include optional activities and visits to religious sites. You can decide which sites you want to visit and spend your time relaxing on the shore or cruise ship when you’re not busy sightseeing. We do offer pre-nights or post-nights before and after our tours for those that want to take some time to rest, relax or get caught up on jet lag.

What is the group size for these tours?

Group sizes are typically between 25 and 35 people, although group sizes can vary. Some tour groups may be as large as 40–45 people, but it depends on the tour and the group leader. We try to maintain reasonably sized tour groups for our Christian vacations.

How far in advance should I book my Christian tour?

The sooner you book, the better. Our tour groups can fill up fast, but we do our best to give everyone a chance to visit other countries and learn about early Christian history throughout the world. Many of our tours offer an early reservation discount if you sign up for a tour 6+ months in advance. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to have a valid passport — and visa if required — before departing.

Do I need travel insurance for these Christian tours? Is it included in the package?

We strongly recommend purchasing a travel insurance plan — whether you’re booking one of our Christian Alaska cruises or a trip to Europe. Travel insurance charges can be added to your final bill, but they’re not included in your tour package. We can provide a total approximate cost for travel insurance when you book your tour.

Are there any extra fees or expenses not included in the tour package?

We do our best to offer tour pricing that includes as much as possible. You’ll need to pay a $300 (USD) deposit per person to book one of our Christian tours, $100 of which is non-refundable at time of deposit. However, most of our Christian travel packages include lodging, food, and all the other accommodations you’ll need during your trip. From Costa Rica tours to Alaska cruises, we offer a luxurious and enriching experience.

What is the cancellation policy for these tours?

You must notify Pilgrim Tours of your cancellation 91+ days before your departure date for a refund of your deposit minus service fees. Canceling on shorter notice will result in a smaller refund, and you won’t receive any refund if you notify us of your cancellation 7 days or fewer before your departure.

Can I extend my stay at any of the destinations beyond the tour dates?

Our Christian tours follow a specific itinerary, so you’ll need to stick with the tour group throughout the tour. During some of our tours, we’ll even travel to different countries and meet new tour guides throughout the trip. Travelers do have the option to book extra hotel nights either before the tour or after the tour.

Do you provide transportation between destinations?

We provide transportation for all of our Christian tours, from US to Germany tours . While transportation costs are included in the price of your tour, tips to guides and drivers aren’t covered.

What should I pack for the tour? Are there any specific clothing or items recommended?

You should pack appropriate clothing for the destination you’re visiting. Consider the culture you’re immersing yourself in and dress modestly according to cultural norms. You should also pack a phone charger, personal care products, medicine, and anything else you typically bring on a vacation.

Holy Land Pilgrimage & Jerusalem Pilgrimage

Nothing brings the Gospels to life like a Catholic Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour to the Holy Land with a Jerusalem stay in 2024 or 2025. During this pilgrimage to Jerusalem and Israel, you will walk in the Footsteps of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the Apostles, visiting and celebrating daily Mass in the most important Shrines and Basilicas of Christianity. You will visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, where the Angel of the Lord appeared to the Virgin Mary, and she professed her Magnificat. You will visit Bethlehem and celebrate the birth of Christ at the Church of the Nativity .  During this Holy Land Pilgrimage tour, you will have the opportunity to renew your baptismal vows at the Jordon River and your wedding vows in Cana, where Jesus performed His first Miracle. You will spend two days around the Sea of Galilee where Jesus began His ministry, preaching to thousands as He gave His sermon on the Mount of Beatitudes, and miraculously fed the multitudes with fish and loaves of bread. The highlight of the Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour will be in pilgrimage to Jerusalem where you will pray in the Garden of Gethsemane and experience the Lord’s Passion along the Via Dolorosa , also known as the Way of the Cross, on the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which marks the place where Jesus was put to death on Calvary, and was buried and rose again! Visits to Mount Tabor,  Sepphoris , Bethany, and Jericho are just some of the other places that you will visit on this Holy Land Pilgrimage Tour. For a wonderful reading of Holy Land Pilgrimage tour guidelines issued by the USCCB click here.   Why don’t you go ahead and book the Holy Land & Jerusalem Pilgrimage Tour for 2024 or 2025 today?

Fr. Dan Dashner

Each day, early in the morning on this Holy Land Pilgrimage we were off and running. The driver of the van was a very safe and considerate driver who not only ensured that we arrived at all our assigned destinations on time, but he also ensured that there was plenty of water for all of us to drink as the weather was very hot and we needed to constantly hydrate our bodies. All Holy Site visits were well-planned, and our tour guide was well known by the guards and site coordinators and several occasions we were even granted head of line privileges.

Every day of our journey was fruitful and fulfilling and we were given the opportunity to visit and spend ample time at each site identified in the Catholic Journey Pilgrimage Brochure. In fact, we even visited some sites that were not scheduled and not offered in the itinerary. Confession and spiritual direction were announced as available and was provided as requested and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was celebrated each day with the group. Every morning, on the tour motor coach, I led a recitation of The Holy Rosary or the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Everybody joined in and I’m sure that our pilgrimage was blessed and especially protected by the Blessed Virgin Mother of God because during this pilgrimage, I was hit from behind by an electric motor bike. However, I was not seriously hurt and there were no injuries to the operator of the electric motor bike.

On the last day of the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, we went to the Via Dolorosa, and I led stations of the cross all the way to Golgotha where I was privileged to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

This Holy Land Pilgrimage was a dream come true for me because when I was ordained to the presbyterate, I was scheduled to go to the Holy Land This trip was on my bucket list of things I wanted to do and an answer to my prayer. Due to our very close group interaction and relationships, we developed with each other, we now have new spiritual families (members of our pilgrimage group). Each of the nine members of our group have called or texted me and each other and assured us of their prayers & support.

Words cannot express my gratitude to Catholic Journeys for giving me this great opportunity to go on pilgrimage to the Holy Land as group Spiritual Director. I commend Catholic Journeys for hiring knowledgeable guides and skilled driver for these pilgrimages. May God continue to Bless & Protect You and All Pilgrims that make this Extraordinary Journey to the Holy Land through Catholic Journeys.

Reverend Father Daniel L. Dashner,

Patrick and Linda

We went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land on 9/17 and returned 9/26. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary first by renewing our vows in Cana and spending last full day on our actual Anniversary with a special Mass at Golgotha and a visit to the Tomb.

Our guide was an extraordinary mix of historian, geography, religion and Shepherd! He kept us all safe and taken care of whatever we needed.

Our Priest, Father Dan, is now the head of our Pilgrimage Family and we are grateful to God and everyone at Catholic Journeys for making this possible!

The pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the Holy Land was wonderful and David, our guide, was fantastic. I was amazed at his knowledge and wish I could have recorded the entire trip. Unfortunately I became ill on the flight over so wasn’t able to fully enjoy trip. Sadly I have been diagnosed with cancer and would appreciate prayers. My roommate was also wonderful to me. Please add me to your prayer list. ✝️🙏🙏🙏🙏

Margaret and Richard

Our pilgrimage to the Holy Land was amazing. Everything was perfect from the time we were picked up at the airport until the day we departed. We had the best tour guide David. I felt blessed each day by his vast amount of knowledge. We were able to gain access to the most beautiful basilicas and had Mass each day. I felt very cared for and safe the entire pilgrimage. I would recommend Catholic Journey to everyone who is considering a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

The pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the Holy Land was awesome despite the heat. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge. David, our tour guide was so passionate about his country and so willing to share his knowledge.

Loved every step. Great experience with excellent guide, hotels, restaurants and of course, the spectacular Camino. I really appreciate the way the tour started before the last 100 km (where there are lots of people) because we trekked through beautiful quiet villages, long stretches of nature and it was a chance to feel like a real pilgrim with plenty of contemplative time, challenging hills to dig deep inside.

What The Travel Corporation Sale Means for Tour Operators and Travel Agencies

Dennis Schaal , Skift

July 17th, 2024 at 5:19 PM EDT

If the deal goes through, Apollo might merge some of The Travel Corporation's brands, or pair them with other assets the private equity firm owns.

Dennis Schaal

Expect more private equity deals in the tour operator and travel agency sectors.

That was the view of a source familiar with The Travel Corporation’s operations in the wake of news it would be acquired by Apollo Global Management . The source added that multiple private equity firms had also expressed interest in the Travel Corporation.

“And one of the themes all of these PE guys are talking about is the next generation of tour operators, which of course, are digital natives and connected from a data perspective,” the source said, who predicted that there will be plenty of private equity deals to come in these areas.

Travel agencies with a luxury clientele are attractive targets post-Covid, the source added.

Not A Fire Sale

The Travel Corporation is a family owned business and one factor driving the sale was that there was no heir apparent, the source said.

“We know globally that some of the old school tour operators have seen growth slow, but by no means was the business [TTC] in a terrible place. The business was in a strong place,” the source said.

The source didn’t comment on the value of the deal but wouldn’t characterize it as a “fire sale.”

The Tollman family opted to retain ownership of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, which generated a big chunk of the group’s profits, but well under 50%, the source added.

What Apollo Might Do

“I imagine one of the things Apollo is thinking is in line with what all the other VC firms are doing,” the source said. “Can you take these traditional businesses, put in a better technology stack, which both potentially reduces the cost of customer acquisition, and increases operating margin. And then all of a sudden, you take a business that has OK margins, and turn it into a business that has pretty good margins.”

The source predicted that Apollo might consolidate some of The Travel Corporation brands — it owns 18 brands — and/or merge them with other Apollo assets. Over the years, Apollo has owned or invested in the Venetian Las Vegas, Great Wolf Resorts, American Express Global Business Travel, Oceania Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Caesars Entertainment, Diamond Resorts, Expedia and Atlas Air, among other holdings.

World Travel Holdings Co-CEO Chimes In

Brett Tollman, CEO of The Travel Corporation, declined to comment on the deal.

But another CEO of a major family owned business in travel, Jeff Tolkin, the co-CEO of World Travel Holdings , one of the largest cruise and vacation sellers in the U.S., spoke to Skift Wednesday about the implications of the Apollo-The Travel Corporation deal.

“As for the future of family owned businesses, I don’t think this portends anything but a bright future because this deal clearly evidences a successful conclusion for the Tollman assets sold,” Tolkin said.

Tolkin, who said he didn’t know the sale price of The Travel Corporation deal, added he doesn’t believe there will be many similar deals for acquisitions of family owned tour operators because there aren’t many big ones left.

Tauck’s Take on The Travel Corporation Sale

Tauck is one of the few large family owned tour operators that remain, and the company has been public about not being for sale, the source familiar with The Travel Corporations’ operations said.

Tauck CEO Dan Mahar confirmed that the company is not for sale, adding: “Every family and every family business is unique and one transaction does not represent a broader trend.”

He said Tauck is “thriving” as it approaches the beginning of its second century in business, adding that the company has “zero debt and robust family-capital to power our new strategic plan and [we] require no outside funding.”

“We love what we do,” Mahar said. “We are in great businesses, serving a growing market with a strong outlook in the decades ahead. Our guests are engaged with our brand and more loyal than ever. Our team is exceptionally strong and engaged by our business purpose and opportunity. We have respectful, deep relationship with partners around the world and we are united to bring the very best experience to our guests.”

Mahar added that the Tauck family is deeply engaged and has a strong governance system with involvement of multiple generations of the Tauck family, and all are united for the long term.”

Tolkin’s Take on Private Equity

Tolkin said the sale of The Travel Corporation would have no impact on World Travel Holdings.

Family owned travel agencies could be acquisition targets, though, Tolkin said.

“Private equity firms often use a rollup strategy or increase profitability in other ways,” Tolkin said. “Travel agencies are clearly here to stay and a growth sector in the travel business.”

He added: “The underlying fundamentals are there.”

Tolkin said family owned businesses are “the backbone of the American economy. Private equity is one exit strategy that many family owned businesses eventually employ. This is a natural progression where both sides win.”

The tour de france is a study in game theory.

As I have previously written , the Tour de France is a unique and complex event, both from a sporting and business perspective. As to the competition, the race is complicated by the fact that an individual is identified as the winner, but that he needs his team to get there. Moreover, aside from the overall (General Classification or GC) winner, there are multiple other ways to win during the three-week event. This mix of individual and team pursuits, combined with the multiple races within the race, creates a complex web of scenarios and strategies well-suited to the field of game theory.

Game Theory

Game theory can be described in varying levels of complexity by different disciplines but, generally, is a way of analyzing “ interactions among competing individuals .” The field was particularly developed during the 1940s and 50s as a tool in grappling with the new age of nuclear weapons. Its chief luminary was John von Neumann, a brilliant Hungarian-American polymath, who helped to develop the policy of mutual assured destruction which continues to underpin nuclear weapon strategy to this day.

Outside of military usage, game theory has been applied widely, including in social sciences, economics, computer science, business, law, negotiations, and more. Its models help businesses and individuals to evaluate risk, understand possible outcomes and courses of action, and make strategic decisions. While many of its theories rely on complex mathematical models, some are more accessible, and even intuitive, to lay people.

The Games within the Tour

The casual (American) sports fan is familiar with the idea that a single cyclist wins the Tour de France and perhaps even knows that part of the reward for doing so is wearing the maillot jaune (yellow jersey). But the race offers many more ways to win.

As an initial matter, the race is 21 stages long. Each stage is a race in and of itself and winners of a Tour de France stage are forever immortalized. On that day, they beat the best in the world – while also providing meaningful broadcast coverage for their team’s sponsors. Moreover, the stages vary in their length, terrain, and difficulty, with certain days suiting certain types of riders.

‘the acolyte’ episode 8 recap and review: a dreadful season finale and the cameos can’t save it, amazon prime day 2024: the 110 best deals of day two so far.

To that point, there are other jerseys to win besides yellow. The green jersey is awarded to the rider who earns the most points, which are awarded in varying amounts for the first person to cross each stage’s finish line. The green jersey is for the sprinters – the riders who come out of the pack on flat stages at 50 mph and risk serious crashes in order to claim the title “fastest cyclist in the world.”

Next, there is the King of the Mountains (KoM) competition, the leader of which wears a red and white polka dot jersey. The KoM competition awards points to the riders who first cross the tops of the many mountains in the race. While the GC winner is often near the top of the KoM competition, the winners tend to be aggressive climbers who break away from the main group of riders (the peloton) and hunt the hills.

In addition to the green and polka dot jerseys, there is a white jersey awarded to the best placed rider under the age of 26. Twenty-five-year-old Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, in the lead of this year’s Tour, has previously won both the yellow and white jerseys in the same year.

And finally, there is a team competition, which is awarded to the team with the best cumulative time of its top three riders.

Let the Games Begin

Game theory can be used for studying all kinds of games, from the kinds of simple binary (zero-sum) contests we are used to watching every Sunday in the NFL (one team wins and one team loses), to the more complicated set of outcomes possible in a Tour de France. While there is a finite number of awards to be won in the Tour, the relation among the different awards is not clear. In other words, teams and riders are often uncertain about how their pursuit of one jersey might affect their hopes of achieving another goal.

An example of these challenging dynamics was shown in Netflix’s coverage of the 2022 Tour de France in “Tour de France: Unchained.” The series showed consternation among team Jumbo Visma as to how to support eventual winner Jonas Vingegaard while also seeking opportunities for Wout van Aert, a multi-talented rider who eventually won the green jersey in that Tour. Van Aert had the ability to win stages but doing so potentially detracted from his ability to protect and assist Vingegaard. For his part, van Aert insists Vingegaard winning was always the team’s goal.

The Prisoner’s Dilemma on Wheels

The application of game theory is particularly acute in breakaways. Breakaways are situations in which a handful of riders from different teams (usually between two and ten) leave the peloton and race ahead with the hopes of winning the stage. Doing so is a battle against physics. Riders at the front of the race break the wind and thus materially reduce the effort required by the riders behind them. The peloton normally has more than a hundred riders to share in this effort. A breakaway though must share the heavy work of pacemaking among a small group by taking turns at the front, which becomes increasingly difficult as the race goes on. It is not surprising then that breakaways only succeed about 23% of the time , depending on various factors.

Whether, in fact, each rider in the breakaway shares in that effort is where game theory can be enlightening. The prisoner’s dilemma is a classic theoretical game with application here. In that game, two criminals are arrested and placed in individual cells. If both refuse to cooperate with the police, they will each get a year in jail. If one testifies against the other, the cooperator will go free while the one who stayed silent will get three years. If both testify against each other, they will each serve two years. Each criminal is thus incentivized to turn against the other (known as defecting), which would ultimately leave them both worse off.

Riders in breakaways often fail to win the stage when one or more of them fails to take their turn at the front. A rider might want to save himself for the last kilometer or 100 yards of the race and try to literally free ride on the work being done by the rest of the breakaway. All of the riders are incentivized to do the same thing – but if they do, the breakaway will slow down and likely be caught by the chasing peloton shortly before the finish line.

The peloton is often faced with the same conundrum. On flat stages, teams with sprinters typically come to the front of the race with perhaps 10 or 20 miles to go. Teams with climbers or GC contenders do the same on mountain stages. Their goal is to eliminate the breakaway’s advantage and place their rider in a position to win the stage. But here too, some teams might try to free ride on the work of others. Moreover, teams with riders in the breakaway will not help and may even try to impede the peloton’s progress. Consequently, when the peloton is not sufficiently organized, a rider from the breakaway stands to win.

For example, on the very first day of this year’s Tour, the sprinters’ teams failed to pull back a two-man breakaway, giving Frenchman Romain Bardet a five second victory over the charging peloton. In contrast, on stage 5 , the sprinters’ teams pulled the breakaway back from a four minute and 35 second advantage to enable sprinter Mark Cavendish to get his record-breaking 35th Tour stage victory.

A Theory of Cooperation

The solution to these and many problems is cooperation. In a famous study turned into successful book , professor Robert Axelrod asked game theory experts to submit computer programs for a prisoner’s dilemma tournament. The programs, encoded with each expert’s preferred strategy, faced off against each other in repeated rounds of the prisoner’s dilemma to see which strategy would prevail, i.e., end up with the best cumulative results. In short, it turned out, that the prevailing strategy was not someone who regularly defected. Instead, the programs that were built to cooperate – and to draw their competitors into cooperation over multiple games – prevailed.

Similarly, cyclists and their teams should (and do) recognize the value of cooperating with their rivals in the right circumstances. Riders in the breakaway need to cooperate to have a chance of winning. And the teams behind them need to cooperate to catch them. Yet the question will undoubtedly linger in the back of their minds – will someone defect and try to take glory for themselves?

Travis Kelce couldn’t keep his hands to himself as he escorted Taylor Swift out of the Veltins-Arena on the second night of her Eras Tour stop in Germany.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was seen leaving Swift’s concert with his arm wrapped around her shoulder as they exited the venue in Gelsenkirchen together on Thursday night.

Kelce wore a white T-shirt and a pair of blue shorts which he paired with some white sneakers and a matching colored hat.

The songstress hugged him back during their walk out.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

The outing comes just days before the NFL champion is expected to report to the Chiefs training camp in Kansas City, Missouri, on Friday. The camp officially begins on Sunday.

The team is currently hosting a mini camp for the rookies and quarterbacks, which started earlier this week.

Kelce, 34, was also present for the team’s mandatory mini camp last month which ended on the same day as the team’s ring ceremony where they picked up their Super Bowl LVIII championship jewelry.

“I think everybody is pretty motivated to keep the mentality we had last year,” Kelce told the Chiefs news site . “We didn’t get to ‘back-to-back’ by always talking about ‘back-to-back.’ We got there by trying to figure out the best way to get better from the last week. I think that mentality is key.”

In the meantime, Kelce has been spending time with his leading lady.

On Wednesday, they were spotted packing on the PDA while they left the arena on night one of her Germany shows.

The songstress, 34, chose to combine her songs “Invisible String” and “Superstar” while Kelce was in the audience, leading fans to believe she did it as a special nod to her boyfriend.

Travis Kelce Eras Tour

It’s been rumored that Swift wrote the 2009 tune, “Superstar,” which talks about falling in love with a celebrity at the peak of his career, about ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas.

“Invisible String” is allegedly about her more recent ex, Joe Alwyn.

“taylor removed invisible string from the setlist only 4 shows [into her Eras Tour] bc it was too painful to sing… since she sang it tonight, it makes me believe that it doesn’t hurt to sing anymore bc travis IS her soulmate. she was always tied to him, it just took some time to find each other,” one fan commented .

The Best Prime Day Deals on Travel and Luggage Gear I Swear By

Christine Ryan

By Christine Ryan and Wirecutter Deals Team

Christine Ryan is an editor overseeing coverage of travel and outdoors gear, which has entailed testing down-filled vests in Iceland in June.

As Wirecutter’s senior editor overseeing travel-gear reviews, I know all too well that, for most people, summer travel rarely involves jetting off to glamorous destinations with a fancy aluminum Rimowa trunk in tow .

In fact, I write this as I recover from a four-day road trip from California to Calgary, sharing an EV with two dear friends, their adorable toddler, and two large, fluffy, equally adorable dogs.

I brought no fancy luggage—just a carry-on backpack roomy enough to hold my clothes, squishable enough to wedge into the overpacked frunk, and comfortable enough to wear while I waited in a seemingly endless TSA line. (I flew home!)

Here at Wirecutter, we see a lot of seemingly helpful but actually useless travel paraphernalia for sale, meant to appeal to anxious travelers braced for any eventuality.

What we actually recommend—after months of testing on trips like the one I just took—is the luggage, bags, and other gear that will truly make your journeys easier. The carry-on backpack I used, for instance.

I can’t promise that this particular bag will be on sale during Prime Day , but I can promise that all of the deals listed below are for things that we’ve tested, that we use ourselves, and that we stand by.

An Amazon Prime account may be required to secure the deal prices below.
