Dusan T. I went to Turkey with my parents, my brother and my sister-in-law. We went for 10 days. It was winter ❄️ at that time and the temperature varies from 2°C to 10°C (depends on which area you are, in Cappadocia the temperature can go as low to -1°C and Istanbul the temperature was around 7 to 10°C).

We had a luxury mpv 🚐 (mercedes sprinter) for transportation. The mpv was very comfy and big and they even have plug in there (to charge your phone during journey).

During the trip we visited to a lot of places (mostly historical sites) which is very interesting especially the Ataturk’s Museum ❤️ All the hotels are 5⭐️ and we really like hot spring in one of the hotels. I was an amazing experience.

We also get chance to got on the air ballon!!! The view was lit 🔥 ! We also tried hamam (turkey spa/massage). It was nice, they bath you in warm water and massage and brush off your dead skin with soap water. The show in Hodjapasha was amazing.

By far the best family vacation we ever had, that’s all we can say 😊 I would like to thank Mr Ender(our tour operator) and Mr.Ozcan (our guide). Thanks for all the experiences.

Hotels: Celal Sultan is in a perfect location for you to explore Istanbul on your own during your free time and is in a walking distance to the Grand Bazaar, Mosques, Bosphorus, Galata Bridge, and other places.

The other hotels were amazing but Mdc Hotel in Cappadocia has the real Turkish breakfast and it was the best breakfast of all the hotels we stayed in.

Overall, the package is excellent and shows a lot about the country. Turkish People hospitality is simply amazing! You feel welcome and safe everywhere you go in Turkey. We definitely recommend a visit to Turkey!

We booked a trip to Croatia and a final destination in Budapest with June The beginning of the trip was on the coast through Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split. The trip along the coast was excellent as expected. The accommodations were wonderful, the people welcoming, and the tour guides were very knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. However, the drive included a stop at Plitvice Lakes National Park which was beautiful and, upon arriving in Zagreb, we were pleasantly surprised with the city tour that June arranged and also the day trip in the area outside the city including historical sites (Tito's birthplace), wineries, and mountainside restaurants. The trip to Budapest included and stop as a couple wineries overlooking Lake Balaton. The trip concluded with a wonderful sunset cruise on the Danube watching the city becoming bathed in lights. We would highly recommend Jelena and this travel agency. She had great ideas to help us plan our trip and she checked in on us several times while were in Croatia to make sure things were going well. the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip Dubrovnik was wonderful. We enjoyed the architecture, the history, the food, and the scenery. We missed one of our most anticipated activities of spending the day on the water in Hvar due to the south wind, but we really enjoyed the tour of the island with our guide. We were surprised how much we enjoyed Zagreb. I think the tours and the tour guide were instrumental in that. We might have reversed the order and gone from Budapest and finished in Dubrovnik. However, we still really enjoyed how we did it. We liked the resort in Hvar, but the room was really small.

The tour guide must be fluent in English; on our last day, we received a Spanish-speaking person and were not sure what information was shared and where we were going in a strange land. The Novotel hotel rooms need modification shower need replacement. On our first day we received mixed confusing information bus driver did not show up and later on bus is broken down, Our tour was delayed for 2 hours. Need to have better communication and plan. Tour guide must come to the hotel early and inform and introduce the group This is a crowded place none of us has no identification tag, group has 60-75 people with one tour guide these things has to change. Bus toilet availability has to be improved. It will be great to inform travellers what to bring according to the weather conditions.

Citypass was late coming through until I chased it and hotel had an issue with the single supplement so tried to charge me again for a room trying to make me refund with Contiki. Spoiled the start of my trip so had to chase Contiki when I just had arrived. Think I could've done the entire trip cheaper to be honest. Not sure what value Contiki added.

I loved this tour and our guide Jon was great. However it should be advertised as a 3 day tour as the 4th day is just check out of the hotel, no activities.

Luxury Travel Agency Lists Top Hotels for 2024 and It's Full of Gems

P lanning a big, blowout luxury vacation this summer? Know the destination you want to visit, but can't narrow down the perfect luxury resort to splurge on? It's easy to get options paralysis when there's dozens of great-looking hotels to choose from (especially when you've got luxury resort money riding on the line).

Fortunately, luxury travel agency Fora Travel might help you narrow down those options with a few notable recommendations. They just came out with their top-booked luxury hotels for the summer travel season, and there's not a dud on this list.

Fora Travel ( @foratravel ) compiled this list based on the hotels their customers booked the most for a truly trendsetting lineup. Fora condensed their fan faves down to the best of the best by honing in further on their top three states: California, New York, and Florida.

Unsurprisingly, Southern California dominated summer travel bookings with its famous Pacific coastline, sunny weather, and Mediterranean-esque landscapes. Fora's three SoCal superstars were:

1.  Ojai Valley Inn,  Ojai- Home to the world-class Ojai Country Club gold course and a luxurious spa, guests can also flex their creative muscles at the Arists Cottage & Apothecary, which offers activities like candle and soap making classes, local olive oil tastings, and much more.

2.  Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach - Located on Dana Point's famous seaside cliffs, the AAA Five-Diamond resort boasts another world-class golf course and its own private beach club!

3.  Terranea Resort - Located in Palos Verdes, Terranea also has a great golf course, spa, and luxury pool, along with guided guest activities like paddleboarding, nature hikes, and even archery. Notably, at a glance, rates at the Terranea appear to be a couple hundred bucks cheaper on average than the Waldorf Astoria. 

Two NorCal resorts made it on Fora's list, too:

1.  Le Petit Pall at 8th Ave - This boutique hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea only has 24 rooms, but makes up for its small size in complimentary amenities (including a daily Continental Champagne Breakfast and in-house bicycles) and white sand beaches. Plus, they're dog-friendly!

2.  Stanly Ranch - It's in Napa Valley's wine country . Need I say more? This Auberge Collection resort hosts an unbelievable amount of guest activities, including falconry, wine tasting (no duh) and hot air balloon rides! 

Switching coasts, the Empire State came in hot with some some truly choice stays, all but one of which were in the big apple:

1. The Whitby Hotel - This Midtown Manhattan hotel is a short walk away from iconic places like Central Park, the MoMA, and the Rockefeller Center. Day guests can pop in to book a table at their daily Afternoon Tea!

2. Hotel 50 Bowery - One of the cheaper entries on this list, the hip, pet-friendly Hyatt hotel is located in Manhattan's Chinatown within walking distance of popular neighborhoods like SoHo and Little Italy.

3. Times Square EDITION - Smack dab in the middle of Times Square , this sleek, modern hotel offers fine dining from Michelin-starred chefs and the Paradise Club, which hosts world-class DJs and performers on the weekends. Perfect for nightlife lovers!

4. Thompson Central Park - Another Hyatt Hotel, Thompson Central Park is just up the street from The Whitby, with all the delights of Midtown Manhattan just a stone's throw away.

5. Wildflower Farms - Another Auberge resort, this Hudson Valley retreat offers idyllic countryside scenery, another incredible spa, and unique outdoorsy activities for every season of the year.

The Sunshine State had the biggest curveballs on Fora's list:

1. Virgin Voyages - Yeah, the cruise line. Plenty of cruises sail out of Florida, but Virgin's adults-only ships are unique for their wild nightlife, racy entertainment, and a deluxe, grown-up experience other cruises can't replicate.

2. Pop! Century Resort - Surprised? I was too. This is technically one of Disney World's "value" resorts , but with its colorful pop art theme, extensive pools, and family-friendly amenities, it's proven a big hit with Disneygoers!

Of course, Florida had plenty of great traditional resorts, too. Miami stole the show with three similarly-deluxe resorts: the "eco-luxurious" 1 Hotel South Beach , the IHG Intercontinental on the waterfront in downtown Miami, and the ultra-deluxe Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne , located on its own five-mile long private island. Further south in the Florida Keys, Fora wrapped their list with Isla Bella Beach Resort , a beautiful beachfront getaway with ocean views from every room.

Fora's top hotels list ran the gamut in terms of mood, location, experiences, size, and price. Simply put, there's something for everyone on this list, but no matter which of these hotels you choose, you're guaranteed a great stay!

Russia and North Korea’s Defense Pact Is a New Headache for China

The treaty raises the risk of confrontation in the region and could prompt the United States and its allies to bolster their military presence on China’s periphery.

In the contest of global narratives, China has sought to cast itself as a peaceful nation opposed to dividing the world into rival camps. In contrast, it has accused the United States of building alliances that will drive the world toward a new Cold War.

Yet Russia and North Korea’s mutual defense treaty , which calls for the two countries to provide immediate military assistance to each other in the event of war, is exactly the kind of bloc-building that China has charged the United States with. China’s closest strategic partner and its only treaty ally — Russia and North Korea — are now the ones heightening the risk of Cold War-style confrontation in northeast Asia.

The pact also creates more headaches for Beijing by appearing to deepen the semblance of a trilateral axis between China, Russia and North Korea, which China has sought to avoid. “Beijing has very carefully stayed away from the optics of a China-Russia-North Korea axis,” said Yun Sun, the director of the China program at the Stimson Center in Washington. “It wants to keep its options open.”

Japan, South Korea and the United States could now decide that the threat posed by a Russian and North Korean defense treaty requires them to enhance their own security arrangement , announced last year at Camp David, by increasing troop levels or strengthening defenses along China’s periphery.

For those reasons, China’s top leader, Xi Jinping, might not welcome the budding bromance between President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea. Meeting in Pyongyang on Wednesday, Mr. Putin and Mr. Kim heralded the defense agreement as the beginning of a new era in their relations.

The pact also exposed the limitations of China’s partnerships with both countries, analysts said.

Mr. Xi has declared a “no limits” relationship with Mr. Putin and pledged “unswerving” support for North Korea — linking arms with two like-minded authoritarian countries to push back against what they regard as American bullying around the world.

But by aligning with two pariah states, Mr. Xi is also at risk of facing fallout from the actions of their unpredictable leaders. Mr. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has severely damaged China’s relationship with the West, which has accused Beijing of not doing enough to rein in Russia. And Mr. Kim’s nuclear saber rattling has helped bring two tense neighbors — Japan and South Korea — together in a trilateral defense partnership with the United States.

Fears already abound that Russia may provide North Korea with technology to bolster Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program in exchange for munitions for use in Ukraine.

Mr. Xi can ill afford more surprises at a time when he needs to turn around China’s struggling economy. Despite his increasingly adversarial tone toward the West, Mr. Xi remains invested in maintaining China’s position in the current economic global order.

“The new pact between Putin and Kim is not good news for Beijing,” said John Delury, a professor of Chinese studies at Yonsei University in Seoul. “Xi Jinping has never had an easy relationship with the headstrong Korean dynast and now has increasing reason to worry about Putin encouraging Kim’s aggressive tendencies.”

Between the war in Ukraine and the risk of conflict on the Korean Peninsula, Mr. Delury said, “Putin and Kim are forces of instability at a time when China benefits from an orderly environment.”

China has sought to distance itself from the new pact, with a spokesman at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday declining to comment, saying it was a Russian and North Korean issue.

In reality, the Russia-North Korea treaty, coupled with the alliance between the United States, Japan and South Korea, has “significantly exacerbated” the risk of “confrontation, rivalry or conflict” in the region, in China’s view, said Shi Yinhong, an international relations professor at Renmin University in Beijing.

Mr. Shi said peace on the Korean Peninsula was a top priority for China, and the increasing militarization of the region put one of “China’s vital interests at stake.”

China still holds considerable sway over Russia and North Korea. The United States contends the Kremlin would not be able to sustain its war in Ukraine if China did not buy massive quantities of Russian oil or supply Russia with consumer goods and dual-use technologies, like chips and machine tools, to fuel its war machine. At the same time, North Korea relies on China for virtually all its trade, including food and energy.

That sway over Moscow and Pyongyang has bolstered Beijing’s importance at times when other countries have called on China to use its influence — unsuccessfully — to rein in North Korea’s nuclear buildup or Russia’s war in Ukraine.

But Mr. Putin’s wooing of Mr. Kim creates a new competitor for Beijing for influence over North Korea, creating “a windfall for Kim and a headache for Xi Jinping,” said Danny Russel, a diplomacy and security analyst at the Asia Society Policy Institute.

“Importantly for Pyongyang, the partnership with Putin — while not without limits — generates valuable leverage against Beijing,” Mr. Russel said. “Playing major powers off against each other is a classic play in Korean history, and North Korea’s massive dependence on China in recent decades has been a liability that Kim Jong-un is eager to reduce.”

“The scorecard shows North Korea gaining the most by far, with China potentially the biggest loser,” he added.

Keeping the Kim regime in power is a priority for Beijing to preserve a buffer between the Chinese border and U.S.-led forces stationed in South Korea.

China and North Korea officially say they are as close as “lips and teeth,” but relations between the two neighbors have long been fraught, with a mix of mutual mistrust and common interests.

Since taking power in 2011, Mr. Kim has made China uncomfortable by rapidly increasing the number of missile tests and expanding North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. Mr. Xi initially refused to meet with Mr. Kim. It was only when President Trump announced plans to meet with the North Korean dictator that Mr. Xi changed course, eventually holding talks with Mr. Kim in 2018, before and after the summit with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Xi could now feel compelled again to meet with Mr. Kim, said Victor D. Cha , a professor of government and international affairs at Georgetown University and the Korea chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, because “Xi cannot afford to let Putin flaunt all of this influence over his neighbor.”

The growing closeness of Russia and North Korea could give China more of an incentive to try to repair and stabilize ties with South Korea.

On the same day Mr. Putin and Mr. Kim met in Pyongyang, Chinese diplomats and military officials met with their South Korean counterparts in Seoul. China wants to drive a wedge between Washington and Seoul in hopes of weakening South Korea’s military alignment with the United States.

At the meeting, according to Chinese state media on Wednesday, Beijing said that the Korean Peninsula’s priority should be to cool tensions and avoid moves that would intensify confrontation — language that is vague enough that it could be read as a critique of either the United States or the Russia-North Korea pact. Despite its alliance with the North, Beijing sought to depict itself as a neutral player in the dispute, saying that it has always “determined its position based on the right and wrong of the matter itself.”

TSA in Upstate New York is prepared for busiest summer travel season ever

ALBANY, N.Y. --The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is prepared for the highest passenger volumes the agency has seen at airport security checkpoints across Upstate New York and nationwide during this summer’s travel season, which runs through Labor Day.

Since mid-May, TSA has seen multiple days break into the top 10 busiest days in the agency’s 22-year history. Typically, TSA had been screening approximately 2.5 million people per day nationwide, however since last month, the number of people screened has increased by several hundred thousand per day.

“Here at Albany International Airport (ALB) we also are seeing a spike in checkpoint volume,” said Bart R. Johnson, TSA’s Federal Security Director for 13 airports in Upstate New York. “Travel volume expected out of Albany, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo is expected to be high. Our teams have been in close coordination with airport, airline and travel partners, and we are more than ready to handle this summer’s increased travel volumes as we approach the July 4th holiday,” he said.

“Knowing that travel volume will be high is why it is vital to give yourself plenty of time to park or return a rental car, check in with your airline to check bags and prepare for the security checkpoint. If you find yourself in a checkpoint line, travelers can save time by removing items from their pockets and placing them in a carry-on bag, instead of putting items directly into bins at the conveyor belt,” Johnson said.

“The summer travel period is officially upon us and the dedicated team at ALB is more than ready to accommodate a surge in air travelers,” said Phil Calderone, CEO at Albany International Airport. “The airport will be very busy, and we’re asking that all travelers plan ahead and arrive no less than two hours before their schedule departure – especially given the changes caused by ongoing construction at ALB. We look forward to serving the thousands expected to arrive and depart ALB this summer and remain committed to ensuring that everyone has a positive airport experience.”

TSA is continuing to modernize airport security checkpoints across the country with a focus on enhanced detection methods to best secure the aviation system. If individuals have not flown since last summer, they are likely to encounter a second generation of credential authentication technology (CAT) units at our travel document checking podium so they will want to listen for guidance from our TSA officers.

These units ensure the authenticity of a passenger’s ID and match the face of the passenger with the face on the ID by snapping a photo of the person who is presenting the ID. After the CAT unit validates the ID, the photo is deleted and travelers who prefer not to have their photo taken may opt out and the TSA officer will validate the traveler’s ID without the use of a photo.

“The best advice that I can offer is to get to the airport well before your ticketed departure time,” said Johnson. “We ask that the travelling public do their part in efficient checkpoint screening by arriving to the airport at least two hours prior to their scheduled flight departure and know what they can – and cannot pack – in their carry-on luggage,” he said.

It is important for travelers to come to the airport prepared to go through the security screening process. Passengers need to make sure that there are no prohibited items among their carry-on items. Prohibited items will result in a need for our officers to open and inspect a bag to determine what triggered the alarm. This process takes a few minutes and will slow down someone’s trip through the checkpoint.

When packing, it is recommended to start to pack with an empty bag, so that travelers are well aware of the contents of their bags. Prior to packing that empty bag, individuals can check TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” tool to know what is prohibited. Individuals who are heading to the beach, may wonder how to pack their sunscreen. Any liquids, sunscreen containers and alcohol over 3.4 ounces must be packed in a checked bag. Liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes are allowed in carry-on bags as long as each item is 3.4 ounces or less and placed in one quart-sized bag . Each passenger is limited to one quart-size bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes.

It is important for individuals who own firearms to remember that they are prohibited to pass through security checkpoints, even if a passenger has a concealed carry permit or is in a constitutional carry jurisdiction. Passengers may travel with a firearm, but it must be secured in the passenger’s checked baggage; packed unloaded; locked in a hard-sided case; and declared to the airline when checking in at the airline ticket counter. If a passenger brings a firearm to the security checkpoint on their person or in their carry-on luggage, TSA will contact local law enforcement to safely unload and take possession of the firearm. Law enforcement may also arrest or cite the passenger, depending on local law. TSA may impose a civil penalty up to $15,000 when weapons are intercepted, and passengers will lose TSA PreCheck® eligibility.

TSA PreCheck® members should make sure that their known traveler number (KTN) is in their airline  reservation. It is essential that airline reservations have the passenger’s correct KTN, full name and date of birth so they can receive the program’s benefits. Those who fly with multiple airlines should ensure their KTN is updated in each of their airline profiles every time they travel. TSA PreCheck passengers are low-risk travelers who do not need to remove shoes, belts, 3-1-1 liquids, food, laptops and light jackets at the TSA checkpoint. TSA’s wait time standards for TSA PreCheck lanes are under 10 minutes and less than 30 minutes for standard lanes. Travelers may visit https://www.tsa.gov/precheck for more information about enrolling or renewing in TSA PreCheck and to find enrollment locations and pricing information for all TSA PreCheck enrollment providers.

“It is also important to remember that our TSA officers are working throughout the summer, including the upcoming July 4th holiday, so respect TSA and other frontline airport and airline employees,” Johnson said. “Our officers along with all frontline airport and airline employees and local law enforcement, are working together to ensure safe and secure travel. Consider offering them a kind word of thanks.” 

TSA also reminds travelers that starting on May 7, 2025, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or driver’s license to fly within the U.S., make sure you have a REAL ID or another acceptable form of ID. If you are not sure if you have a REAL ID, check with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles . Passengers who need additional assistance through security screening may request a TSA Passenger Support Specialist (PSS). A PSS is a TSA officer who has received specialized training, including how to effectively assist and communicate with individuals with disabilities, medical conditions or those who need additional screening assistance.
