Disney World Height Requirements: A Complete Guide

A complete guide to Disney World height requirements at each of the four parks, including the rides with no height requirements and the attractions at Disney World’s water parks.

While there are many rides at Walt Disney World that are open to guests of any age or height, some of the more thrilling attractions at the parks have height requirements they must adhere to. There are even a handful of rides that have requirements for the maximum height they will allow, not just the minimum.

So, before you start planning your Disney World vacation, it’s important to know what the ride height requirements are so you can plan accordingly. Height requirements are strictly enforced at the parks and are specified to help ensure riders are able to enjoy the attraction safely. We’re breaking down the height requirements of the rides at the four major parks, along with the two water parks!

Magic Kingdom Ride Height Requirements

At Magic Kingdom, the majority of attractions don’t have height requirements. This means any child or adult of any height is able to ride or experience the attraction. You will want to note that it doesn’t necessarily mean that the content is not potentially scary for children. For example, Haunted Mansion has no height requirement but may be a bit spooky for some younger riders. Height requirements are implanted for the safety of the ride, not for age-appropriateness, so you will want to do your research in advance.

These are the Magic Kingdom attractions with no height requirements:

  • Astro Orbiter
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  • Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station
  • Country Bear Jamboree
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Enchanted Tales with Belle
  • Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade
  • The Hall of Presidents
  • Haunted Mansion
  • “it’s a small world”
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Liberty Square Riverboat
  • Mad Tea Party
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
  • Tom Sawyer Island
  • Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid
  • Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
  • Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
  • Walt Disney World Railroad

Then there are six rides with heigh specifications. Note that for Tomorrowland Speedway, you will need to be 54 inches or taller to drive alone. If you are 32 inches or taller, you must have an adult passenger to drive.

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: 38 inches or taller
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: 40 inches or taller
  • Tomorrowland Speedway: 32 inches or taller (To drive the car alone, the guest must be 54 inches or taller)
  • Space Mountain: 44 inches or taller
  • The Barnstormer: 35 inches or taller
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run: 48 inches or taller

Rider Switch

So, what happens when you have someone in your party that does not meet the required height for a ride? In that case, you can use Rider Switch (sometimes known as rider swap or child swap). This is a service offered at the Disney Parks that allows guests with small children to take turns riding attractions that have a height requirement, meaning they don’t have to wait in line twice.

To use Rider Switch, you will first want to speak with a Cast Member outside of the attraction to let them know you would like to do Rider Switch. The Cast Member will typically issue a Rider Switch pass (whether a physical copy or digitally attached to your MagicBand). The first group will be able to wait in line and experience the attraction while the second adult and child who does not meet the height requirement stay behind. Once that first ride has been completed, the adult who stayed behind can “switch” to go and ride the attraction without having to wait in line a second time.

Disney World Water Park Height Requirements

The Disney World water parks also have height requirements that you need to know. Both Disney World water parks have requirements for certain attractions, both for maximum and minimum heights.

Guests with prosthetics, casts, or braces may be restricted from riding certain rides where the prosthetic, cast, or brace may present a hazard to the Guest or other riders. When a cast or prosthetic is permitted on a ride, the cast must fit comfortably within the ride vehicle and not interfere with the required riding position (including holding on) or function of the restraint, as applicable.

Specific information about casts and prosthetics is included on individual attractions’ pages and in our downloadable  Accessibility Guide .

Holiday World complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), in which a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability (for example, a person with diabetes may have a dog that is trained to alert him when his blood sugar reaches high or low levels, a person with depression may have a dog that is trained to remind her to take her medication, or a person who has epilepsy may have a dog that is trained to detect the onset of a seizure and then help the person remain safe during the seizure.)

Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals are not considered service animals under the ADA and are not permitted in Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.

For everyone’s comfort and safety, smoking is permitted only in the parks’ five designated Smoking Areas . There is a Smoking Area in each of the four themed sections in Holiday World, plus a Smoking Area near Bahari Wave Pool and just past the lockers in Splashin’ Safari.

  • Muziki Bay in Splashin’ Safari

Wheelchairs can be accommodated in all theaters. Check our Park Map for theater locations and our Park Hours for showtimes.

  • Thunderbird
  • Cheetah Chase

Other Holiday World rides do not require a boarding time.

Please alert the ride operator, when you arrive at the ride exit gate, by holding up your Ride Boarding Pass. The ride boarding time is based on the approximate length of the line at the time of the request. The ride operator will record the ride time on the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass. The party may then leave the ride and return at the appropriate time.

When it is time to ride, the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass holder may be accompanied by up to three (3) accompanying Guests. One or more of the accompanying Guests must be physically able to assist the Ride Boarding Pass holder on and off the ride, if help is required. Ease of boarding rides varies and must be taken into consideration when deciding which rides to ride. Most rides will require that a Guest with a physical disability be lifted onto and off the ride.

Only one ride time may be acquired at a time. Rides not listed on the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass may be ridden while the party is waiting for an assigned time. The rides not listed on the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass tend to have shorter lines; the ride operator will let the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass holder know when it is time to ride, usually within a few ride cycles.

The Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass holder must ride in order for the accompanying Guests to gain access to the ride through its exit. If the party is larger than four persons, the other members of the party are asked to wait in the queue and then the entire party may ride together when they reach the front of the line. Please be sure the ride operator is aware that this is your intent if you plan to ride with the rest of your party this way.

With the exception of Wildebeest, Mammoth, and Cheetah Chase, the Holiday World Ride Boarding Pass does not apply to Splashin’ Safari water slides, since the “exit” is the bottom of the slide. There are a number of water attractions – Safari Sam’s SplashLand, The Wave, Bahari Wave, Kima Bay, Tembo Falls, and Tembo Tides – that require little or no wait.

Questions or Comments?  Send emails to  [email protected] or call 1-877-463-2645.

Guests are carefully measured with shoes on at Holiday World and with shoes  off  at Splashin’ Safari. (Please note that the Guest’s feet, including the heels, must be flat on the ground when measured, and the top of the head – not hair – is measured. Footwear may not alter a Guest’s height by more than two inches to meet a height restriction . )
