OZZY OSBOURNE will have his new album, "Black Rain" , reissued on November 20 as a "Special Limited-Edition Tour Package" featuring a bonus CD of live tracks and B-sides. The bonus CD includes the following cuts:

01. I Don't Wanna Stop (live) 02. Not Going Away (live) 03. Here For You (live) 04. Nightmare 05. Can't Save You 06. Love To Hate

"Black Rain" has sold 406,000 copies in the United States since its May 2007 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan .

In an interview with Australia's Herald Sun published earlier today, Ozzy Osbourne made it clear that he wasn't too happy about the effect of downloading on the music industry. He said, "I've been suffering terribly from people downloading [' Black Rain' ]. If they don't find something to stop it, people won't be able to make records. There won't be any new bands. How are they going to survive? I'm an old-timer, I've been doing it 40 years now, but new bands are going to suffer. It's ridiculous, you could be doing it for nothing. Sharon said I'd be astounded to find out how many bands are touring because you can download a record but you can't beat a rock show."

As previously reported, Ozzy Osbourne 's official web site is currently hosting a poll for fans to vote on what song should be the next single from his "Black Rain" CD. There are three tracks to choose from: "Black Rain" (currently with 51% of the votes), "Civilize the Universe" (12%) and "Here for You" (36%).

"Black Rain" was reissued in August by Epic in a new jewel-case package containing the full booklet with lyrics and new color cover art and photos. It also contains CD extra bonus content featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the "Black Rain" photo shoot.

"Black Rain" , which originally came out on May 22, was released in "eco-friendly" packaging, with the CD sleeve made out of recycled paper. In addition, the record came out without a booklet to further save paper, with the lyrics, credits and other inside material available to buyers of the CD at .

"Black Rain" features several songs based on current events and the state of the world in general. But Osbourne told The Pulse of Radio that he hasn't turned into an "issues-oriented" artist. "Believe me, I've not suddenly woken up and I'm sane," he said. "But I'm not one of these guys that can write about boy-meets-girl and, I mean, it's got to mean something to me. I don't write all the lyrics, but I have to say, 'Well, you know, isn't that strange that that happened when this happened,' you know, and I'll get going, you know."

"Black Rain" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart, with first-week sales of 152,000 copies.

It’s been six years since The Ozzman Cometh … with all new material, of course. Seems eons ago since the release of Down To Earth , Ozzy’s last release with original material. Needless to say it had some moments, but never really showed up on anyone’s radar as “Classic Ozzy.” It’s now 2007 and the Oz released new material earlier this year, May 22nd to be exact, entitled Black Rain . It was a world event release as it signaled the start of a (still in progress) world tour that began in Moscow five days after the album hit the stores. It’s now six months later, and as most devote fans who already bought the original release dread … another “version” of Black Rain appears and hits the shelves looking for more of their money. This one is quite simply entitled: Black Rain Tour Edition . The “catch” this time around? The tour edition features a bonus CD containing three live tracks and three “B-side” tracks.

If you didn’t get a chance to buy Black Rain the first time around, you might like to know what to expect. As far as the band’s performance is concerned, including Ozzy, their musicianship seems to fire on all cylinders on this release. It’s amazing how well Ozzy’s voice sounds and how Zakk has many moments of grandeur and his guitar playing here is some of his finest in years.

The downfall is that all the songs are not as strong or memorable as say “I Don’t Wanna Stop,” which was the first single and one hell of a tune … a bit of melody, great riff, tasteful false harmonics by Zakk, and a great chorus! This track is also reaching out to a new generation of fans as a lot of teenage Metallers are loading this track into their iPod playlists along with the timeless “Crazy Train!” “Not Going Away,” which opens the album isn’t as strong, but it’s a decent rocker that should please most Ozzy fans. The other highlight of the release is the track “11 Silver” where Zakk puts down one hell of a great solo, which is also accompanied by a mean bass line by Blasko, who tries to give Zakk a run for his money!

There’s also a few of the standard Ozzy ballads on the release, as it feels like Ozzy’s still basking in the glow of the popular success of “Mama I’m Coming Home” from years ago. If you liked “Mama,” then the two ballads here should be digestible.

The album’s writing seems to indicate that perhaps Ozzy is making some social statements about his state of mind and/or health with tracks that have lyrical themes like “Not Going Away,” “I Don’t Wanna Stop,” and “Here For You.”

The bonus CD with six tracks in total makes for quite a nice EP. The three live cuts are actually tracks off of Black Rain and were recorded last summer on the Black Rain tour.

The three live tracks include the caffeine fueled “I Don’t Wanna Stop,” “Not Going Away,” and one of those popular Ozzy ballads in “Here For You.” The band, including Ozzy, sound great and it’s pretty cool to have live tracks from a tour not even completed yet. Additionally, it’s pure joy to hear Ozzy crank out classic “Ozzy-isms” like “tonight’s motto is … the crazier you go, the crazier I go!” That’s only half the story!

The three included “B-side” studio tracks are gems, not just “fillers.” Each track is a Rocker unto itself; no ballads included. In fact, these tracks are so strong that if had they been included on the original Black Rain release, they would have made that release a stronger offering. “Nightmare,” for example, has some cool Classical piano coupled with a nice melody, a strong chorus, and bridge that harkens back to Ozzy’s The Ultimate Sin era! The chorus spouts great lyrics like “I’m running fast and getting nowhere, I see the light but I never get there …” “I Can’t Save You” and “Love To Hate” are both riff-laden gems, not as strong on the choruses, but just as infectious!

This is one special edition worth owning, as the bonus material contains no “fluff” or “fillers” at all. For devote Ozzy fans, it’ll be worth spending the extra copper to purchase this tour edition! Certainly a no-brainer purchase if you’ve been thinking of buying Black Rain and haven’t yet!!!

  • At release time, there was a limited run of Black Rain copies for the US that included a pass which guaranteed a ticket to Ozzfest 2007.
  • There are two different versions of the cover art for Black Rain for the original release. Neither has the album title on it, which is unusual. However, the image to the left (the grey image) is the cover art the US cover art. The one with Ozzy himself on the cover is the “everywhere else” cover art. Why they chose such a boring cover art for the US release is beyond me. it’s also odd that if you buy the album through iTunes in the US, you get a “digital booklet”, which contains most of the same art as the non grey one anyway.
  • The album was re-released on August 14th as an “Enhanced” Edition.  It replaced the paper sleeve version with a “proper” version that had a jewel case, a CD insert and booklet.  It also added a video file with some behind the scenes footage from the “Black Rain” photo shoot.  It looks like the second image below.
  • The third image is what you get when you buy the CD in Japan (the fire was an artistic choice, it’s not part of the CD package or anything).
  • The US Tour Edition has the “Ozzy in the Black Rain” cover as it’s cover, there’s still no title on the front, but it does come in a standard jewel case, and the “Tour Edition” notation is on the spine of the disc.  It looks like the second image below.

This is when I got back into ozzy. Ozzmosis, Down to Earth, and Under Cover all disappointed me. This album is great. It’s got a sorta Rob Zombie Vibe and killer tracks to headbang to. This album rekindled my love of Ozzy. Even though there are those 3 albums I don’t like, there will always be Blizzard through No More Tears and Black Rain through Scream.

Ozzy osbourne - black rain (tour edition) (2007).

black rain tour edition

Black Rain was released just a year and half before Ozzy 's 60th birthday, and he does sound like a veteran -- he can't wail like he used to, opting for a lower-register growl, but perhaps the biggest indication that he's getting on in years is that he doesn't rock as hard as he once did. Sure, longtime axeman Zakk Wylde is here playing some mean guitar, but this isn't as heavy as he was even a decade ago, lacking both the gut-level punch and monster riffs of even his post- Randy Rhoads work. Certainly, this level of heaviosity is missed, but it's also true that if Ozzy really strived for a brutal attack he might wind up sounding older than he already does here, so hearing him ease into a hazily dark, vaguely psychedelic heavy rock as reminiscent of Lennon as it is of Sabbath is oddly appropriate. Nothing on Black Rain could really qualify as an Osbourne classic, but there's something curiously comforting about Ozzy relaxing a little bit and singing songs that are strangely age-appropriate -- something that's not respectable, necessarily, something that is still metal, but something that isn't quite as heavy as before, yet retaining that swirling, circular melodies and murky grind that has been his stock and trade for nearly 40 years. If the music feels a bit older, so do Ozzy 's lyrics. He spends a startling amount of time addressing the ills of the world, ranging from terrorism to consumerism, and for once his fondness for gloomy doomsday imagery jibes with the conventional-held opinion of the state of the world (although he never gets as apocalyptic as Cormac McCarthy 's The Road, or the Left Behind series, for that matter, which frankly is a relief). This unintentional zeitgeist piggybacking helps Black Rain feel timely and appropriate, which is a mildly shocking turn of events, and helps the album feel something closer to a work of art than a piece of product for the Ozz machine. It's hardly a perfect record -- producer Kevin Churko , who engineered Osbourne 's Under Cover and also produced Cheap Trick 's 2006 Rockford , has a long history of pop editing and engineering, including credits on Britney 's Oops!...I Did It Again, Shania Twain 's Up! , and Celine Dion 's New Day Has Come , and all that history is evident in the album's slightly too punchy and precise sound. But even if Black Rain is a bit clean, a bit soft in the center, it's far from an embarrassment, and it's surprisingly likeable -- kind of like Ozzy himself in the new millennium, really, so it's nice that he finally has an album that lives up to his well-scrubbed, reputable persona.
