SAFARI PARK'S MAGICAL CHRISTMAS EVENT IS BACK

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

From 25 November and running daily until Christmas Eve, guests will have the chance to see Santa during the day, or on selected dates, visit Santa in his grotto during the evening’s Lantern Festival event.

Ahead of the month-long celebration, Santa had a good look around the Park’s Discovery Trail, which has been transformed into a winter wonderland, with over 400 Christmas trees, lights, baubles, new photo points and even thick layers of ‘snow’.

Additionally, the Park has installed two amazing winter lantern scenes, which look incredible during the day, but really come to life when the sun sets.

Bethan Davis, PR & Events Officer, said, “We are so excited to welcome guests to this year’s Santa Safari, as the Park has never looked this magical. Our team of ‘elves’ have been working really hard to make sure everything is perfect for Santa’s arrival, with not a garland, tree or bauble out of place!

“This year, we’ve installed a whole host of brand-new features, including a gigantic Christmas tree, two photo points for children, animated characters in the grotto and our outdoor sleigh has been transformed. Children will be able to experience falling ‘snow’ and write a letter to Santa too, which they can post in our cheeky talking post-box. Santa has given everything his seal of approval, so has now retired to his cosy grotto, ready to meet families from Friday. We hope everyone has a magical and festive time with us.”

Guests to the grotto will be greeted by Santa’s team of friendly elves who will magically transport families to the North Pole on Santa’s sleigh, captained by a new welcoming owl.

Disembarking the sleigh, they will follow a path through a magical winter wonderland, busy elf workshop and reindeer stables, finally reaching the grotto to pay a visit to the big man himself.

Children will receive a memento of their day by having a picture taken of themselves with Santa which they can then take home, alongside being able to choose their very own present from the elves’ workshop.

Also included in the package is a visit to Mrs Claus’ Kitchen, where children can enjoy a drink and cookie, whilst adults are treated to a hot drink and mince pie.

There is also the chance for guests to win a Family Annual Pass, by entering the ‘Letters to Santa’ competition, where children can write a letter to Santa and post it in his magical talking post box.

Additionally, guests visiting this winter can experience a virtual reality sleigh ride – a magical 4D adventure to the North Pole, helping Santa to test out his sleigh before his big journey on Christmas Eve.

As Santa Safari coincides with the Park’s Lantern Festival event, a variety of ticketing options are available, including an evening ticket which includes lanterns and an ‘Ultimate Winter Ticket’, which includes a day visit to Santa Safari, all the animal attractions, talks and shows, then Lantern Festival on the evening.

Tickets can be booked in advance via the Park’s website, where guests can also see the calendar of events: www.wmsp.co.uk/tickets .

Santa Safari runs from 25 November until Christmas Eve, and the charge is £33.00 for adults and children aged 3-64, £13.00 for under 3s and £30.00 for concessions. Adventure Theme Park rides are not open during the winter season.

Further information about West Midland Safari Park is available from the Park’s website www.wmsp.co.uk or by telephone 01299 402114. Find out more on the Safari Park’s official Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/WestMidSafari .

Christmas experience

We took our daughter to see the santas grotto on the santa safari, we booked online but did not have it explained to us to go direct to grotto and she missed her slot, the staff were very accomadating though and soon fixed it so she could still see santa! She certainly enjoyed her visit there!

really fun, very expensive. great family atmosphere, but looking at about 40 pounds per adult, so expensive if in a family. try get the vouchers somehow?

Lots of queues, very expensive including food and ice lollies! Facilities not clean enough, maybe not enough staff during peak times? bins over flowing etc... Kids enjoyed it, free return but we didn't use it - maybe they could put the prices down a tad and not give return tickets?!

This is not the best safari park I've been to. Most of the animals are behind cages and you rarely see them. Inbettween enclosures you have to stop and wait around 5 mins until they open the gate and let you in to the next enclosure. On the other hand they is a wide range of animals from all over the world. They is a lot of Restraunts and fun rides.

We brought our 3 year old son to the park for his birthday. The principal behind the park is good as you can go around the animal enclosure as many times as you want but the problem we encountered is other visitors stopping for too long and blocking the road so others can not get past. People seem to ignore the huge queues building up behind them and the VIP tours were even worse as they park up for ages so the entire van load of visitors can feed the animals. The weather wasnt great so the park was quiet. I would dread to think what it is like on a nice day. All in all a good day out for the money

I took my boyfriend and young sister to the safari park in may. Entrance fees are a little pricey and you have to pay for the rides on top of that. Although there is plenty to see, wide range of animals and discovery areas. The drive around the safari itself takes about an hour and fifteen. You can go round as many times as you like. The other part has the African village where you see the meerkats and go into the lemurs woods. The reptile enclosure has loads of species to see. You can walk into the bats area as well. The penguins are really adorable. Overall it's worth a visit on a nice sunny day.

West Midland Safari Park offering two-night Christmas stay at cost of at least £2,000

West Midland Safari Park is offering guests the chance to spend Christmas with the animals, but it'll cost you at least £2,000 for the two-night stay.

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

The Bewdley attraction has advertised its festive break package, which includes staying in one of the park's animal lodges from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day, with meals, admission to the park, and a chance to see Santa on Christmas Eve all included.

However, the break will set animal lovers back at least £2,090 for two adults, with the cost increasing for additional guests.

Two adults and two children will have to pay £2,810 for the festive trip, while four adults would have to pay £3,130.

Only two lodges are now available for the special stay: the Red Panda cottage, which sleeps five guests, and the Rhino Lodge, which sleeps six guests.

The other nine lodges, where you can marvel close-up at lions, tigers, cheetahs, giraffes, and elephants, have already been booked up.

A chance to see Santa in his Grotto on Christmas Eve (optional)

Dinner served in the lodge on Christmas Eve

A continental breakfast served in the lodge on Christmas Day

Children can also pick their own presents in the Elves' Workshop on Christmas Eve and go ice skating on the park's new eco-friendly ice rink alternative.

West Midland Safari Park has introduced its animal lodges to the attraction over the last few years, giving guests a chance to watch some of the park's most majestic animals close-up during a luxury stay.

The safari park opened its Lion Lodges earlier this year, and recently announced that its next lodges will give guests views of hippos and African wild dogs.

One of the most anticipated events in the year for us is our annual trip to West Midland Safari Park . We first went in September 2017. You can read all about our first trip here . We then returned in November 2017 for their Santa Safari which you can read about here , and then we were lucky enough to return again earlier this year for their Ice Age Exhibition which you can read about here .

Last Saturday we returned again for their Santa Safari. The Santa Safari is a magical festive day out for all the family. It combines a 4-mile self drive safari and a visit to Santa to make a truly memorable experience.

When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly elf who confirmed our booking, handed us a map of the safari drive through and walk through, and also allowed us to buy some animal feed.

The self drive safari is always a favourite of mine. In particular feeding the giraffes and seeing the elephants. This time, however, the star of the ‘safari show’ was definitely the baby rhino.

One minute we were feeding the deer through our car window when all of a sudden a fully grown rhino ran by our car chasing after her baby rhino!

It was such an amazing sight! The baby rhino was having lots of fun chasing the birds around!

Another amazing moment was hearing the white lions roaring! It was truly amazing! Here are some photos from the drive through safari.

After the drive through safari we headed into the walk-through area. In the summer, you’ll find lots of rides suitable for all ages. These are closed during the Santa Safari, but there’s still plenty to see and do! With Christmas crafts, face-painting, the BOJ playground, stalls and more!

When booking your Santa safari online you can choose a time slot to see Santa. Our time slot was 1-1.30pm. When we arrived we were greeted again by a friendly elf who talked to our twin girls whilst leading the way for us.

We boarded Santa’s sleigh and sat right at the front! We had a great view of the reindeer!

The elf talked to us about Santa whilst we rode on his magical sleigh. The walls began to move which really did give the impression that the sleigh was moving. It had me believing that we were anyway! When we arrived at the ‘North Pole’ it was like entering a magical winter wonderland! There was lots of snow, twinkly lights, Christmas music and polar bears!

After a short queue a friendly elf asked our girls for their names and talked to them about Christmas, and Santa. She even complimented our girls on their Christmas jumpers and said that Santa would love them!

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

Before we knew it, it was time to meet Santa! My husband and I were really impressed. Santa really took the time to talk to our girls about what they’d like for Christmas before telling them all about how his elves and himself had forgotten to do the dishes that morning leaving Mrs Clause in a bit of a mood! It was very funny! Our girls then posed for a photo on their own with Santa, and then for another one with mummy and daddy too. We then headed into Santa’s workshop where our girls were able to choose a special gift each from Santa.

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

As always the gifts available were fantastic. There was plenty of choice for all ages from cuddly toys, board games and even a ukulele! R chose a big, yellow Power Ranger toy, and M chose a doll and horse stable set.

We then headed over to Mrs Claus’s kitchen for a nice, warm hot chocolate, cookie and a mince pie!

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

After our hot chocolate we wandered over to the BOJ park for the girls to have a play before seeing the meerkats and feeding some of the goats!

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

Lastly we went through the Ice Age Exhibition and the girls couldn’t resist counting some of the animals teeth!

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

Overall we had a wonderful time at West Midland Safari Park, in particular the Santa Safari really put us in the Christmas mood!

The Santa Safari runs daily up until the 24th December. Booking online costs £20.40 per adult, £17.00 for children aged 3-15, and under 3’s are £6.80. You can also buy animal food for £3.50 online. For more information and to book  click here .

Whilst at West Midland Safari Park I filmed some of our favourite bits, including our sleigh ride and talking the elves! You can watch the video below.

My husband has also written about our trip. You can read his review here .

For the purpose of this review we received complimentary tickets for the Santa Safari. All views and opinions are 100% my own!

I started Twin Mummy and Daddy in 2012.

Over time Twin Mummy and Daddy has gone from strength to strength. I write about our family life, my love for running and our passion for adventure and travel.

We’ve also started living a more eco-friendly life. As such I also write about our zero waste journey in a bid to encourage others to think about the impact they have on the environment.

I’m a keen runner and in April 2019 I ran the London Marathon for an amazing charity called WellChild. It’s one of my biggest achievements to date. I raised over £2,000 for the charity and learnt so much along the way.

This year we’re passionate about spending time outdoors. We’ll be sharing our travel, days out and camping adventures right here on Twin Mummy and Daddy.

The Amazing Adventures of Me

Christmas light trails in the Midlands

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

This is a collection of Christmas light trails in the Midlands this winter. The ideal activity to get the family in the festive spirit. Wrap up warm, embrace the season and enjoy a hot chocolate as you explore some of our most loved attractions after dark.

Most of these light trails are tickets events and you can follow the links to book and find out more. In general my advice would be to wear wellies as lots of these trails end up getting very busy with footfall affecting paths and routes. Lots of these places sell lanterns and flashing toys so if you can take a trip to Poundland in advance to get some sort of torch or toy it might save you some money. I also like to buy a box of candy canes and whip these out as a treat en route.

Table of Contents

Safari Park Lanterns

We can’t wait to see how this light trail manifests itself at the West Midlands Safari Park. After dark the drive through closes and there’s a new walk through to explore with all sorts of glowing installations. You can also add on a visit to Santa here too. This is one we will be booking for animal mad Arlo to enjoy. The event starts at 5pm.

Tickets from £19 – under threes free

Webbs Enchanted Garden

Our personal favourite at Webbs of Wychbold last year the riverside gardens were transformed in to a fairytale haven. This year promises to be even more spectacular. You can go all out and book an igloo pod for a family treat – and then don’t forget to go and explore the garden centre and the Christmas displays too.

Tickets from £10 kids/ £16 adults and under twos free.

The Illuminated Arboretum

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

This event at the National Memorial Arboretum is simply stunning. With the extensive 150 acres of woodland full of beautiful lights it’s a wonderful walk and really shows the grounds off in their best light. There’s always something new to spot, the lights on the trees and the natural surroundings are stunning. This one mile route is a lovely one for little legs. Relaxed sessions are available which is a lovely inclusive touch. Check the website for details.

  • The Illuminated Arboretum route is around 1 mile long, starting around 200m from the entrance to the Remembrance Centre, and goes past many beautifully lit memorials to those who have served and sacrificed for the country
  • Once you have entered, you are welcome to stay and walk the route as many times as you like until the Arboretum closes at 9.30pm.? If you would like to visit the Remembrance Centre and then re-enter the route, just let a member of the Arboretum team at the ticket check in know, and they’ll give you a wristband

Kids £9 / adults £19 and under 5s free

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

Winter Glow UK

Based at the Three Counties Showground. This year’s light trail is called “A Christmas Odyssey” and they also host a wonderful ice rink and a big wheel. The terrain here is flat so it’s a nice one for little legs but this place can get extremely busy and crowded due to its popularity. I would suggest looking at an off peak visit and booking all the attractions to make the most of your day.

Tickets from £9.80 – under 3’s are free.

Warwick Castle

One of our most beloved attractions in the midlands. Christmas at the Castle hosts all manner of festive themed events which includes an evening light trail which takes you around the grounds to see the castle and green spaces from a whole new perspective. Take a peek inside the great hall for one of the most breathtaking Christmas trees, enjoy ice skating and the street food and market in the shadow of the castle for all sorts of unique gifts and tastes.

From £17 per person. Under 3’s are free.

Luminate Live

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

This groundbreaking events company are bringing their A game to the light trail game this season, hosting 8 different trails across the U.K. and here in the midlands we are lucky to be home to three fabulous events. Birmingham Botanical Gardens , Coombe Abbey and for the very first time Shugborough Hall . Each of these venues is spectacular in their own right and even better – Luminate will be planting a tree on behalf of every booking.

west midlands safari park christmas tickets

Ticket prices vary – from £14.50 kids / £19.50 adults

Cotswold Farm Park

We love Adam Hensons Farm Park, this year an eternal blizzard of snow and ice has befallen the Farm Park. Mysterious creatures have appeared in the woodland. Three of their little piglets report sounds of a witch’s cackle. Strawberry the cow claims she’s seen a beaver’s den. The Highland bull, Prince, says he’s been invited to a dance in the palace. I think this one will be a huge hit with the little ones! Witness the magical transformation and explore the illuminated barns, paddocks and woodland this winter.

Code WARDROBE will give your readers 10% OFF (ends 24 th  Nov, Midnight).

Alongside the light trail, CFPwill also have a Father Christmas experience. Included in the visit is:

  • Personalised visit with Father Christmas in his winter grotto
  • Special make-a-bear activity led by our Elves
  • Festive gingerbread decorating (daytime) or toasting S’mores at our crackling – firepits (evening)
  • A magical coin token to choose a gift from our Festive Shop
  • Entry to the Farm Park (daytime) or Enchanted Light Trail (evening)

Further information can be found here: https://cotswoldfarmpark.co.uk/christmas/

Tickets £12 toddlers / £16 kids / £25 adults

Snow Disco at Wethele Manor

If you are looking for a magic elf and fairy trail with a difference then Wethele Manor is your spot. You can also buy your Christmas tree here so it’s a lovely fun filled day out for everyone to embrace the festivities. The Light Trail promises to be filled with snow bubbles plus there’s a disco and photo opportunities galore.

Tickets from £6 here

Alton Towers

Merlin always pulls out all of the stops. Whilst Warwick Castle embraces the traditional aspects, Alton Towers is an event which I feel brings a modern twist on festivities which will be more popular with older kids who are not so easily impressed. The award-winning Illuminated Light Trail Lightopia is back at Alton Towers and this time it comes with a brand new grand water show finale.

Tickets from £15 per person.

Trentham Gardens

This estate is stunning all year round and the fairy trail always feels magical. This year the gardens will be transformed again as a stunning light trail is placed all around Trentham Estate. We love this one because you can also explore the shopping village and all it has to offer, pick up some great stocking fillers in the garden centre and maybe some treats for yourself too.

Kids £14.60 / adults £22.10

Christmas at Belton House

A Brand new light trail bought to the National Trust venue. Christmas at Belton promises to be even more magical this year, with a new after-dark illuminated trail transforming the gardens with over a million twinkling lights and seasonal sounds. There’s also a mini fairground here with a carousel which is the perfect Xmas selfie opportunity.

Kids £15 / adults £21.50 – car parking not included.

Nordic Winter at Chatsworth

Enjoy a magical atmosphere of a Nordic Winter at Chatsworth House and Garden light trail and themed illuminated display around the gardens from dusk. This walk is about 1.8km and will take anything from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to appreciate the surroundings. Look out for the northern lights across the pond which promise to be a showstopper.

Adults £29.50 / kids £18

The perfect Christmas at Blenheim Palace

A little further south but one of the UK’s Christmas highlights is the experience at Blenheim Palace . The picture perfect gardens form the backdrop for one of the most beautiful trails in the country. Look forward to some time together with family and friends as you discover glittering tunnels of light, dancing lakeside reflections and trees drenched in jewel-like colour. For a moment of reflection, pause at mesmerising flickering flames in the fire garden, larger-than-life illuminations and don’t forget to glimpse Father Christmas along the way. With a market, street food and all sorts of other activities to enjoy this promises to be fun for all the family

Adults £25 / kids £18
