The Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid is extremely compact.  Definitely designed for the better player.  Adjustable weight adds to the shot shaping versatility.  Huge distance potential.

tour edge exotics pro 721

Introduction

It’s not uncommon for an OEM to put “Pro” or “Tour” on a club that actually aims to split the difference between what the best players want and what recreational players need.  This isn’t the case with the Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid.  From the minute you lay eyes on it, you know that this is a club built to the specifications of TEE’s Tour Professionals.

For more pro-style clubs from Tour Edge Exotics, check out our reviews of the Pro 721 driver HERE and the Pro 721 fairway wood HERE .

Check out the latest Exotics pro-style hybrid, the C722, HERE

The Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid is billed as “the most compact, iron-like hybrid available,” and I’m not sure anyone can argue.  Compared to some of the distance hybrids out there, this thing is microscopic.  But it’s more than just small, it’s also unique in its shaping.  Like many players hybrids, it has a taller face and square toe.  However, the head has a symmetrical, oval shape as opposed to the pear-shape we often see.  The club is topped with a clean, matte black crown.

tour edge exotics pro 721

Flipping the club over, we see a sole that’s aesthetically similar to the other Pro 721 clubs.  Tour Edge Exotics branding is flanked by weights in the heel and toe.  A small “Pro 721” designation sits on the toe side.

Though the Pro 721 hybrid does not have the carbon fiber wings or Ridgeback technology of the fairway wood or driver, it does share that look in the headcover.  I like the consistent look of the headcovers in the line; I think they’re some of the better stock covers on the market right now.

Sound & Feel

Hitting the Pro 721 hybrid, I had the sensation that I was hearing two sounds in quick succession.  First was a very solid, low-pitched “thwack” – the kind of sound you might expect from a players hybrid.  Then came a high pitched, metallic ringing, almost like a bell.

The feel of impact aligns more closely with that initial sound.  Contact feels very solid, and you get a precise sense of the strike through your hands.  Overall, the sound and feel of this club are unique and satisfying.

tour edge exotics pro 721

Performance

I’m typically able to hit a club on the range and make a fairly accurate guess as to what the launch monitor numbers are going to look like.  The Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid, however, baffled me.

Hitting it outside, I was a little surprised by how easily this club launched the ball into the air .  I was not surprised by the piercing, low spin flight – that’s been a hallmark of TEE hybrids for several years.  What shocked me was that the ball was landing softly.  I couldn’t figure out if there was more spin than I realized or if the ball was hitting an invisible net around 220 yards.

When I got to the launch monitor, I got my answers.  Compared to my beloved CBX 119, the spin on the Pro 721 has been dialed up slightly.  There’s still plenty of distance potential for those that strike it well, but there’s also enough spin that you can also stop the ball on the green.  If my CBX 119 hybrid is a pure distance cannon, the Pro 721 is a sniper rifle .

In terms of forgiveness, the Diamond Face 2.0 does a good job of retaining ball speed on mishits, but this is still a players club.  If you hit the ball in the extreme heel or toe, expect your shot to fall well short of target.  It’s a similar story with shot shaping: this is a club that makes you responsible for your shot.  If you want a point-and-shoot hybrid, check out Tour Edge Exotics C721 hybrid HERE .  The Pro 721 is for players who want to be in full control.

tour edge exotics pro 721

As with the other Pro 721 clubs, Tour Edge Exotics offers multiple Mitsubishi TENSEI shafts as stock options .  In the hybrid, you can choose between the TENSEI Blue and the TENSEI White .  The TENSEI White is heavier – approximately 90 grams vs. 80 – and promotes a lower trajectory.

Finally, as has become their habit, Tour Edge Exotics is offering their Pro 721 hybrid in single loft increments from 17 to 20 degrees .  This gives you an idea of their target audience for this club as the average ten handicap is not going to see a consistent difference between an 18 and 20 degree hybrid, let alone 18 and 19 degrees.

tour edge exotics pro 721

As is often the case with my bag, the only thing that can threaten my gamers are new versions of my gamers.  I’ve happily played the TEE CBX 119 hybrid [full WITB HERE ] for over two and half years, a lifetime for an equipment writer.  The Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid is making a compelling case to take its spot.  If you want a ball striker’s hybrid with plenty of distance potential, this is one to check out.

Great review Matt. I believe Tour Edge, too often perceived as a club for older players, is making a real effort to be the club of players of all ages. I still occasionally game my old Bazooka GeoMax hybrids. While I currently game Ping G400 hybrids, the case made here for the TEE hybrids has me thinking these may be well worth the try.

Great review as always. I have a feeling your cbx 119 will be staying in your bag for now. Tour Edge really hit the nail on the head with their “CBX 119” line. Its going to be tough to top. Thank again Jon

Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid Review

Tour edge pro 721 hybrid.

We’re about to cover a really neat and interesting club in this review. When I first heard about the Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid, it was explained to me that feedback from the Tours indicated that players wanted the benefits of a hybrid while still being able to make a regular iron swing. They also wanted a tight and compact profile that allowed for versatile shot making and maximum control. David Glod and his team got to work and delivered the “pure Tour pro design” Tour Edge Pro 721 hybrid. Like the rest of the Pro 721 lineup, the hybrid is “straight off the Tour Van” and limited to 1,000 pieces between all four lofts.

Looks 3

It doesn’t get much more compact than the Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 when it comes to hybrids. With a taller and more squared face, it almost looks like you could just chop off the body of the club and you’d be pretty close to an iron. Of course, you can’t do that so the small “peanut” look is reminiscent of a lot of the great minimalist hybrids from back in the day . When they say “they don’t make them like they used to”, well now Tour Edge does. I’m excited to see this shape and look come back to the hybrid game.

Of course, we can’t forget the Pro 721’s matte crown. This helps with “anti glare” and makes the crown look extremely smooth. The face is slightly “shinier” and rolls into the topline a bit creating a nice contrast. Maybe it’s just me, but I find this contrast helps me frame the ball better in my setup. Overall, looking down at this club makes you feel like you can hit any type of shape or flight that the next demands of you .

Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid 9

How Does it Feel?

Somehow Tour Edge managed to squeak Diamond Face 2.0 technology into this little guy! Behind the Pro 721 hybrid’s face are 41 diamond shapes that vary between seven different thicknesses. These diamonds act as “mini trampolines” so there is more ball speed off of the face as well as a larger sweet spot. This also makes the extreme toe and heel less punishing so you will have less distance loss on misses. As a result of all of this, the Pro 721 hybrid feels very responsive, clean, and hot . There was a lot of smooth jump in my hands at impact.

As much as the Pro 721 lends itself to an iron swing, you can really do both with it. The sole of the club glides through the turf very cleanly with a shallower “wood-like” swing. Of course, how well it passes through the turf with a shallower swing will depend on the lie. With a steeper iron-like swing, the Pro 721 doesn’t dig and will come through the turf pretty clean and evenly. The benefits of Diamond Face really kick in here as you might make impact higher on the face, but won’t lose speed. What’s also nice is that this steeper swing is much friendlier in a juicy lie with the ball down so you can get a crisp cut into the rough. It almost feels like you can just attack downward and pick the ball out which is not a common feel for a hybrid.

Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid 6

How Does it Sound?

I thought long and hard about how to describe the Tour Edge Pro 721 hybrid’s sound. It took me two sessions with it to land on what I feel is the correct description. The sound is a reserved and light metallic “ting” mixed with a hint of “tick” . It’s definitely reaffirming, but appropriately tight and solid for a compact head of this nature . That said, there’s a sense of breathing room that’s almost like taking a deep breath with your ears. (Try it, you’ll see what I mean. It’s not as crazy as it reads…) This is what I believe contributes to the clean feel mentioned above. Through the turf has a clean “clip” to it and a heavier shot has a hint of a light thump. Overall, a very smooth and clean sound with minor metallic tones.

Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid 1

On-Course Performance

Versatility. I’m not sure there’s much more I can say about the Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid. Ok, we all know I can say plenty, but that’s what really stood out to me immediately. Tour players wanted a hybrid that played more like an iron with low spin and maximum control. What I experienced was that the Pro 721 made it easy to hit every shot in the book . I could float shots high in the air, both directions, and land soft on my target. I could also just as easily flight one low and drill it down a fairway with a tight draw or cut and some roll.

Tour Edge’s Flight Tuning System (FTS) allows the player to influence the center of gravity (CG) in the club as necessary. First, with the weight more forward in the sole, the spin will be lower and the natural flight will be more piercing . A lot of better players prefer their hybrids to be more anti-left in terms of flight. By placing a heavier weight toward the toe, the flight will naturally be more neutral to fade biased. In the event you want you want to play more of a draw flight, you can place the heavier weight toward the heel. Should you want to fine tune the CG and flight further, Tour Edge also offers an additional weight kit.

One last point I want to discuss is the Pro 721 hybrid’s forgiveness. While I don’t think Tour Edge would try to tell you this is the most forgiving club, I personally think it was shockingly easy to hit . True, I think you have to be able to generate some club speed to get the ball in the air with its forward CG, but this hybrid was impressively automatic for me. If you’re more of a “mini fairway wood” hybrid player, I’d say stick to the C721 . If you like to play a wide range of controlled shots with a hybrid, the Pro 721 is pretty impressive.

Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid 5

Final Thoughts – Tour Edge Pro 721 Hybrid Review

I’m not sure if my review does the Tour Edge Pro 721 hybrid justice, but it really is an impressive tool of the trade. Frankly, this is the closest I’ve seen a hybrid able to perform as an actual iron replacement in quite some time. I can’t remember the last time I was able to so easily hit the same variety of shots with a hybrid in my hand. Keep in mind, hybrids fill very different and specific roles from player to player so that should be considered here as well. But if you’re a good ball striker looking for crazy shot versatility in a small hybrid package, the Pro 721 might currently be the best option in the market.

tour edge exotics pro 721

In February, Tour Edge announced the release of two new families of clubs, the Exotics E721 and Exotics C721 woods and irons . The Exotics E721 clubs are max-game-improvement offerings designed to deliver the most distance and forgiveness possible to golfers who struggle to generate clubhead speed. The Exotics C721 clubs are game-improvement clubs for mid-handicap golfers who love the looks of better-player gear but still need more distance and forgiveness.

Now Tour Edge is completing the line with the release of the limited-edition Exotics Pro 721 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids. No new irons have been announced. Only 1,000 of each driver, fairway wood and hybrid are being made. The new clubs will be made available August 13.

The Exotics Pro 721 series was designed with input from tour players and elite golfers, and they were made to appeal to low-handicap players who love classic shapes. At the same time, they have plenty of modern technologies to help improve performance.

Tour Edge is touting that this driver comes “straight from the tour van.” At 440 cubic centimeters in volume, it is smaller than the C721 driver and most others on the market. It has was designed with a more-forward center of gravity, which helps it produce about 400 rpm less spin than the C721 driver while increasing ball speed for more distance.

The Exotics Pro 721 driver has a deeper face, which is often preferred by golfers who like to shape shots off the tee.

The Ridgeback crown features a titanium beam bracketed by large carbon-fiber pieces on top of the clubhead. (Tour Edge)

One aspect the Exotics Pro 721 shares with the C721 is a Ridgeback crown design. Engineers created a thin titanium center bar extending from the topline to the back of the head, then flanked it with two large carbon-fiber pieces to save weight and help lower the center of gravity.

Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 driver

Diamond Face 2.0 technology broadens the sweet spot for more distance and ball-speed retention on mis-hits. (Tour Edge)

Behind the thin titanium face, Tour Edge added Diamond Face 2.0, a series of 43 different thick and thin diamond-shaped areas. They work to expand the sweetspot and allow the face to flex more efficiently at impact.

The sole has two ports to hold moveable weights. The club comes with a 3-gram and a 12-gram weight. Putting the heavier weight in the heel encourages a draw, while shifting it to the toe area should help players hit a fade.

The adjustable hosel allows players and fitters to increase or decrease the stated loft by as many as 2 degrees. Tour Edge also added a series of sound-defusing panels inside the head to improve acoustics.

The Exotics Pro 721 driver is available in 9.5-degree and 10.5-degree versions and comes standard with a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip.

The Exotics Pro 721 fairway woods complement the Pro 721 driver and feature several of the same design features.

At 155 cubic centimeters in size, the three 3-wood designs are smaller than many 3-woods on the market. Still, they have taller faces, generate less spin and have a more-forward center of gravity to help golfers achieve a more-piercing ball flight.

The Exotics Pro 721 fairway woods’ Diamond Face 2.0 helps create more ball speed and broaden the sweet spot. They have a Ridgeback crown design with a center beam flanked by large carbon-fiber panels, and moveable weights in the sole help create either a draw or a fade bias. There are also sound-defusing panels inside the heads to improve acoustics.

The Exotics Pro 721 fairway woods are available in 13.5-, 15- and 16.5-degree versions and come standard with a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip.

Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid

Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 hybrid (Tour Edge)

While the standard C721 hybrid blends fairway wood and iron-style shaping, the Exotics Pro 721 are true long-iron replacements designed for golfers who want hybrid-like ball speed and distance with iron-style control.

The heads are compact and have a shorter blade length, but the Diamond Face 2.0 hitting area helps amplify ball speed and distance. Moveable weights in the sole allow players and fitters to create a draw or a fade bias, while bars inside the heads improve the sound of impact.

The Exotics Pro 721 hybrids are available in 17-, 18-, 19- and 20-degree versions and come standard with a Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grip.

Certified Pre-Owned Limited Edition Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 Hybrid

Certified Pre-Owned Limited Edition Tour Edge Exotics Pro 721 Hybrid

Description.

The “straight from the tour van” Exotics Pro 721 Hybrid is a Limited-Edition small batch production that is being offered to the public in only 1000 total pieces.

The Exotics Pro 721 Hybrid ultra-compact shape was designed to be the most iron-like hybrid on the market. It features tour-inspired shape with a tour-prototype look and feel that features a new matte finish on the crown.

Exotics clubs have been in play by over 120 different PGA TOUR players with over 1,600 Exotics clubs in play on the three PGA Tours over the past few seasons.

The Pro 721 hybrid was designed with the feedback from those PGA TOUR professionals

Tour-Inspired Shape - The limited-edition Pro 721 Hybrid features tour-inspired ultra-compact shape with a deeper square-face. Ball strikers with faster swing speeds tend to gravitate towards smaller, more compact hybrid designs that they can swing with an iron-like swing.

Extreme Heel and Toe Flight Tuning System - The clubhead features a Flight Tuning System (F.T.S.) adjustable heel (3 grams) and toe (15 grams) weights on the sole. Adjusting the F.T.S. dual weights in these ports that are placed to the extreme heel and toe of the clubhead can drastically affect ball flight and shaping shots in this compact design.

Diamond Face 2.0 Technology - Different diamond shapes of variable face thickness behind the face act as mini-trampolines to create faster ball speeds and expand the sweet spot to outer areas of the face. There are a total of 41 total Diamond shapes featured on Diamond Face 2.0 on the Pro 721 Hybrid.

Sound Diffusion Panels - Sound Diffusion Panels are placed strategically inside the club head vastly improves the acoustic engineering of the entire new Pro 721 metalwood line up.

TrueLoft System – A TrueLoft System ensures extra quality control in the bending process of unfinished Pro 721 hybrid heads and includes an extensive triple-check on loft and lie in the final stages of the manufacturing process. This commitment to making sure that each club head fits the exact intended loft helps players expertly dial in their preferred distances.

The Tour Edge R&D team expects an average of six to eight yards in between each loft, giving the Pro 721 a 24–36-yard distance gap from 17-degree to 20-degree.

Stock Shaft Options

The stock shaft for the Exotics Pro 721 Hybrid is the TENSEI AV RAW hybrid series from Mitsubishi.

Both of these RAW hybrid shafts feature a RAW finish that reveals the Aluminum Vapor (AV) Coated Weave in the butt section, a visible look at the added stability this unique weave provides.

  • TENSEI™ AV RAW Blue hybrid shaft provides Mid-Launch, Mid-Spin properties.
  • TENSEI™ AV RAW White hybrid shaft is the heavier option of the two and provides Low-Spin and Low-Launch.

Golf Club Hybrids

What is a hybrid club?

golf hybrid FAQ image

What are the advantages of a hybrid club?

Because of their versatile design, hybrids offer two essential elements. One, they can provide precision like an iron. Second, they can give you more distance than an iron, in many ways rivaling that of fairway woods. An example is the Callaway Golf Mavrik Max Hybrid offering both distance and accuracy.

What is one reason some golfers think a hybrid is easier to hit than a standard iron?

Hybrids are built with a more prominent clubface like a fairway wood. This offers more surface area in which to strike the ball during a swing.

How does the design of a hybrid contribute to its performance and versatility?

Hybrids are designed with a similar length, loft and weight of an iron while offering a head and face similar to that of a fairway wood, making the club easier to hit like a fairway wood while offering the loft and control of an iron.

What are some keys to getting the most out of your hybrid during the swing?

Hybrids were designed to be substituted for irons in terms of loft. Therefore, emulate the same swinging motion you would with an iron versus a wood.

What is an example of a situation on the course where a hybrid would be ideal?

When you are on the fairway approaching the green, the distance is not appropriate for a wedge or iron. The power and accuracy of a hybrid are ideal here. Hybrids are also helpful for punching out of tight lies.

What is the cost range of name-brand hybrid clubs?

While the costs vary for different hybrids, many name-brand versions fall between $100 to $300. An example is the Callaway Golf Apex Pro 21 Hybrid which is priced in the high 200s.

What loft options are available for hybrids?

Hybrids offer loft options between 16° and 28° to seamlessly replace long irons, providing versatility and easier ball lift.

How do I determine the correct shaft flex for my hybrid?

Shaft flex should align with your swing speed; a slower swing benefits from a flexible shaft, enhancing distance and accuracy.

Are there specific hybrids recommended for beginners?

For beginners, higher loft hybrids are recommended for their ease of use, aiding in launching the ball higher and landing softer on greens, making them an essential tool in improving game play.

9 Things to See in Moscow's Red Square

 Sir Francis Canker/Getty Images

In most cases, you'll be entering Red Square from the north, passing landmarks such as the Bolshoi Theatre and Duma parliament building as you make your way southward. Although you don't necessarily have to pass through the Voskresensky (or Resurrection in English) Gates in order to gain access to the square these days, they definitely provide a sense of arrival, to say nothing of the way their left arch frame's St. Basil's Cathedral if you look from just the right angle.

An interesting fact is that while a gate of some kind has stood here since the mid-16th century, the one you currently see wasn't built until 1994, having been destroyed in 1931 so that tanks could enter and exit Red Square during military parades.

St. Basil's Cathedral

TripSavvy / Christopher Larson

Few sights are as iconic not only of Moscow and Red Square but indeed of Russia than St. Basil's Cathedral, whose colorful, onion-shaped domes are a symbol of the country around the world. Officially known as the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, this church has stood since 1561, which is quite miraculous when you consider all the turbulent history that has transpired since then.

Among other things, religion was severely prohibited during the Soviet period , which led some to believe that this emblem of the Russian Orthodox church might not withstand the tenure of the USSR.

An interesting fact is that St. Basil's is the so-called "Kilometer Zero" of Russia; all of Moscow's main roads (which can take you anywhere in Russia) begin at the exits to Red Square. In this way, St. Basil's iconic status also has an extremely tangible element.

The Kremlin

TripSavvy / Christopher Larson

When you think of The Kremlin, it's unlikely that positive images enter your mind. The fact that simply saying the word "Kremlin" is too vague a descriptor (most Russian cities have their own Kremlin complexes; you should say "Moscow Kremlin") notwithstanding, this misunderstood place is incredibly beautiful, even if you don't like the policy that comes out of it.

Senate Square

In spite of its name, which refers to the role the building that rises above the square played during Imperial Russia, Senate Square is actually home to Russia's presidential administration, currently helmed by Vladimir Putin. In order to see where Russia's legislature operates from, walk just outside Red Square to the Duma parliament building.

Dormition Cathedral

Dating back to the year 1479, the gold-domed Dormition Cathedral pays homage to an Orthodox religious feast that commemorates the death of the Virgin Mary . As is the case with St. Basil's, it is curious that such a conspicuously religious structure was able to survive through the Soviet period.

Armoury Chamber

Though it takes its name from the fact that it housed Russia's royal arsenal when it was built in the 16th century, the most notable resident of the Kremlin's Armoury Chamber today is the Russian Diamond Fund.

Notable Kremlin Towers

Robert Schrader

The interior of the Moscow Kremlin is more beautiful and inviting than you'd expect, but the walls and towers that rise around it better live up to the intimidation with which the complex is associated.

Borovitskaya Tower

Named to commemorate the dense forest that once stood atop the mount where it's built, this tower is extremely picturesque. Built in the late 15th century, it's visible from most places in the square, and also as you walk along the Moskva River.

Nikolskaya Tower

Also built in the year 1491, this tower currently suffered destruction at the hands of Napoleon's army in the 19th century. What you see now is the result of an 1816 re-design and renovation, though artillery fire during the Russian Revolution also caused superficial damage to the tower, named to honor St. Nikolas of Mozhaysk , so it's difficult to know which elements of it are original.

Spasskaya Tower

Known in English as the "Savior's Tower," this iconic, star-topped tower is perhaps the best-known of all the Kremlin's towers. Built in 1491 like the other two towers on this list, it's certainly the most photographed. As a result of its proximity to St. Basil's, it often makes its way into tourists' pictures.

Mausoleum of Lenin

Just as it's strange to learn how many religious monuments survived through the Soviet period, it's a bit odd to think that Lenin's preserved body still sits in a mausoleum just beneath the walls of the Kremlin on Red Square, given the lack of consensus about the ultimate impact of his Revolution, even in Russia.

It's not guaranteed that you'll be able to see the body (which, believe it or not, seems to be improving with age ) when you go, and if you do you will likely have to wait in line, but even strolling past the outside of the Lenin Mausoleum, flanked by stone-faced guards that almost look like statues, illuminates the gravity of his body still being here.

GUM Shopping Center

You might cringe, at least initially, when you realize that one of the most iconic stops on a tour of Red Square is a department store—until you see said department store, that is. Built in 1893 and known during Soviet times as the State Department Store, GUM  ( Glávnyj Universáľnyj Magazín or Main Universal Store in English) hearkens back to the grandeur of the late 19th century, both seen from the outside (especially, when lit up at night) and the interior, which might have you feeling like you're further west in Europe.

A trip inside GUM is a particularly good idea during winter, when frigid temperatures outside will have you savoring the heat, the quality of souvenirs, confections and other goods sold inside notwithstanding. Also, make sure not to confuse GUM with CDM, which sits near the Bolshoi Theatre, even though both are stunning and iconic in their own right.

State Historical Museum

The Russian State Historical Museum is located near Voskresensky Gates, though you should wait until after you've seen the first few attractions of Red Square and the Kremlin to head back there and go inside. To be sure, as you pass by its facade (whose late-19th century grandeur somewhat obscures that fact that it's currently a museum accessible to the public) you might not even think to try and gain entry.

Once inside the museum, you can plan to spend at least a couple of hours, given that artifacts here date back to the very beginning of the Russian state in the ninth century. As is the case with GUM, this will be a particularly alluring prospect if you visit in winter, when Moscow is arguably at its most beautiful, but certainly at its least tolerable.

Minin-Pozharsky Monument

It's somewhat easy to disregard this monument, which pays homage to the two Russian princes who ended the so-called "Time of Troubles" in the mid-16th century, during which Polish-Lithuanian forces occupied Russia, among other awful things including a famine. That's because the statue currently sits just at the base of St. Basil's Cathedral, which makes it very difficult to photograph or even see without being overwhelmed by that much more famous edifice.

Though the statue originally sat at the very center of Red Square, it came to be an obstacle to the movement of tanks during the Soviet period, much like the Voskresensky Gates. As a result, authorities moved it during that time, and it's stayed where you currently find it ever since.

Kazan Cathedral

Taken by itself, the smokey-pink Kazan Cathedral is an architectural marvel; originally built in the 17th century, the church you find here today, located just north of the GUM department store, dates back only to 1993.

Unfortunately, since it sits not only in the shadow of GUM, but also in the shadow St. Basil's and the Towers of the Kremlin, it's easy to miss entirely if you aren't looking. As a result, you might wait until you've seen just about everything else in Red Square before coming here to take photos, and to appreciate the understated beauty of this oft-overlooked cathedral.

Moskva River

As you head south from St. Basil's Cathedral to exit Red Square, make sure to walk onto Bolshoy Moskvoretskiy Bridge, which crosses the Moskva River. If you look due north, you can get an excellent shot of the church framed, on the left, by the towers of the Kremlin. Directing your gaze a bit to the west allows you to see the skyscrapers of Moscow City as they rise above the Kremlin's walls.

Walking westward along the riverbank is also a worthwhile excursion, for the views it provides of Red Square and the Kremlin, as well as the fact that doing so takes you to other iconic Moscow attractions, including Gorky Park and the Pushkin Museum. The views you enjoy from the river and the bridge are particularly stunning at night, though you should make sure you bring a tripod if you want to get a clear picture, given how strong winds over and near the river can be.

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Kremlin in the times of Ivan III

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
