Currently, you do not need a visa for short trips to Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and any country in the European Union (EU). If you don’t have a visa, you can stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This 90-day limit is an accumulation of the time spent in all of these countries during the 180-day period. If you exceed this limit, you may require a visa.

These rules are slightly different for visits to Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania. Only the time spent within any one of these countries counts towards the 90-day limit within the 180-day period.

You may require a visa if you are travelling for business, work or study. It's also possible that you’ll need to complete the online ETIAS  application form before setting off.

Bear in mind that with our European Annual Travel Insurance, we include some countries that are outside the EEA for example Egypt and Libya. You will need a visa to travel to these countries. You can check the entry requirements  here.

If you’re travelling within the European Union (EU), then an EHIC card is an important document to have. It is not however a replacement for European travel insurance. Also, despite the UK leaving the EU in January 2021, the EHIC remains valid for UK holders until the expiry date of their card. However, once your EHIC has expired you will have to apply for a Global Health Insurance (GHIC). The GHIC will take the place of the EHIC and can be applied for and ordered now if you don't already own an EHIC.

Both the EHIC and the GHIC entitle you to cheaper (sometimes free) emergency treatment in a number of EU countries. Although the card entitles you to the same treatment as local citizens, you should be aware that many countries do not have their version of the NHS, so you may still have to pay for some aspects of healthcare.

For this reason, you should still take out travel insurance for Europe. That way, your medical bills will be included in your cover, and you’ll also be covered for things like cancellations, delayed flights and delayed personal possessions.

If you’re taking a holiday in the UK, travel insurance is still important. Although you won’t need health insurance because you still have access to the NHS, your European travel insurance will still cover things like cancellations, lost luggage and stolen possessions.

Schengen travel insurance is designed for travelers entering the Schengen zone, which comprises 27 (soon to be 29) European nations that have abolished internal borders.

Many visitors, including citizens from non-EU countries like India and China, must obtain a travel visa to enter the Schengen Area. And a requirement for a Schengen Visa is to have insurance covering at least €30,000 (around $32,720) in medical costs.

However, there are exemptions. For example, U.S. citizens and residents of countries such as Canada, Brazil and Mexico don’t need a Schengen visa or travel insurance for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

The Schengen Area consists of a diverse tapestry of countries. Among the member nations are some of the best places to visit in Europe , including France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Greece and the Netherlands.

Ireland and Cyprus are the only E.U. member states not currently part of the Schengen Agreement.

Having a valid U.S. passport allows you to spend up to 90 days within a 180-day period in the Schengen Area, whether for tourism or business purposes.

Once officially admitted, you can travel freely within the member countries without passing through customs each time. Stays under 90 days don’t require a visa for U.S. nationals, but your passport should be valid for at least six months past your travel dates.

Short stays don’t require travel medical insurance either, though travel insurance may still be worth it . That could be especially true if you plan to participate in adventure sports or other high-risk activities.

Travel insurance generally also covers cancellations and delays. Purchasing a policy could pay off if you’ve booked expensive, non-refundable flights or accommodations and didn’t purchase them with one of the best travel credit cards that offer insurance.

European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)

Travel requirements for European Union countries are projected to change by mid-2025. Visa-exempt travelers to all 27 (soon to be 29) Schengen countries and Cyprus will need an ETIAS authorization.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You must complete an online application and pay a small fee for an ETIAS authorization.
  • The authorization is tied to your passport and is valid for three years or until your passport expires.
  • With a valid travel authorization, you can enter 30 European countries for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
  • ETIAS authorization does not guarantee entry into any of these countries. You still have to present your passport and documents at the border.
  • The above applies to people from the U.S., Canada and dozens of other countries, so check the E.U.’s official travel website or your country’s embassy for more information. An ETIAS is not a visa and doesn’t mandate travel medical insurance.

Schengen visa requirements

You’ll need a visa if you’re from a visa-exempt country, like the U.S., and planning to stay in the Schengen Area beyond the 90-day threshold. Regardless of the length of the stay, nationals traveling from certain countries always require a visa.

Determine which Schengen country you’ll spend most of your time in and check with their official tourism or embassy website for instructions on applying for a visa. The embassy will inform you about the required documentation and instructions to meet their regulations.

Schengen visa processing time can vary depending on your country of origin and your destination country, so be sure to start the process as early as possible.

Besides the application form, the following are required to obtain a Schengen visa:

  • Valid passport: Your passport must be valid for at least three months after departure.
  • Passport photo: You must submit a picture of yourself that complies with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
  • Travel medical insurance: You must carry at least €30,000 (approximately $32,720) in coverage for medical emergencies, hospitalization and repatriation that’s valid in the entire Schengen Area for the duration of your stay.
  • Documentation: You must provide evidence of the purpose of your visit through supporting documentation, demonstrate you have the financial means to cover expenses and accommodations and show intent to return to your home country after the stay.
  • Fingerprints: Most, but not all, applicants will be required to submit their fingerprints along with their application.

The largest international airport in Moscow is Sheremetyevo International Airport, located 30 kilometres from the city centre. The easiest and fastest way to reach any of Moscow's three major airports is by Aeroexpress - a fast train designated for air travelers (train departs from Belorussky Railway Station). The train ride takes 35 minutes. Another way to get here is by taxi. At the airport you can order taxis at the operator desk. You can usually book a taxi in advance through the hotel or travel agency when going to the airport. Alternatively, there are different bus routes. The buses take about 30-70 minutes depending on the route and your final destination. When traveling by car or bus, do keep in mind that rush hour traffic may sometimes be very dense, and significant delays are possible.

Domodedovo International Airport

Another large airport in Moscow is Moscow Domodedovo Airport. The airport is located 22 kilometres away from the city. You can also reach the airport from Domodedovskaya underground station by mini-bus or bus and from Paveletsky railway station by train. The train from Paveletsky railway station takes 40-50 minutes going on the Aeroexpress train, and 1 hour and 10 minutes on the commuter train. The express buses and shuttles from Domodedovskaya underground station take 25-30 minutes and leave every 15 minutes. Buses run from 6am-12am. Taxis can be ordered at the domestic and international arrivals hall. There are car rental services at the airport.

How to Phone and Send Post from Moscow

To be omnipresent in Moscow you’ll need wi-fi or cellular phone capabilities. It’s better to get a local SIM card to avoid high roaming costs. The best one is from Megafon, who offers “Mezhdunarodny” tarif with cheap calls abroad and inexpensive fast speed LTE (4G) internet (get a prepaid 3 gig pack for 10 eur). They also have lots of additional options you’d need to switch on to save money, so check out their English-language website. One thing to keep in mind is that all Russian cell phone operators have slightly higher tariffs if you travel outside of the city where you bought your SIM. So check out their roaming tariffs and buy the SIM in the region you’ll spend most of your time in or switch on the cheaper roaming options.

How to phone from Moscow

The phone code of Moscow is 495. If you phone inside Moscow , you should just dial the 7-digit number. If you phone to another country , dial 8, wait for a long tone, dial 10 (for international access), then the code of the country, of the city, and the phone number you need. If you phone to another town in Russia , dial 8, wait for a long tone, and then dial the code of the city, followed by the local phone number. If you phone to a mobile phone , which doesn't have a direct Moscow number, dial 8, wait for a long tone, and then dial the number (for example, 910 555-5555).  

Using Public Phones  

Most of the pay phones require a phonecard, which you can buy at any metro station's ticket office. Each phone has an instruction in English on the display and you can change the language of it by pressing the button "L". The telephone card - Tele`fonnaya `Karta - can be for 20 units (minutes) - 60 R ($2) or 50 units (one hour) - 105 R ($4). The public phones are usually located near or inside all metro stations and at the other popular places. It's possible to use those public phones for international calls too, but it's very expensive, better consider the options below.

  How to communicate with the outside world?

First, you can phone from the hotel or hostel you're staying in. Usually hotels charge much more than it really costs, so it's not a very good idea. If you live in an apartment, the price would be around 20R ($0.7) a minute if the call goes through MGTS local provider (it will, in most cases). You can also go to the Tverskaya ulitsa, 7 (central telegraph, opened 24 hours) or to another telegraph office . You can order a telephone call or send a fax anywhere. A call to Western Europe is around 20 roubles (0.7$) a minute. For some reason, there are no special 'budget call centers' in Moscow as in some other countries. Another way to phone abroad is to make a collect phone call . In this case, you will not pay for the phone call, but the party you're phoning to will. You can do it by dialing AT&T access number in Moscow (755-5042 or 747-3323), dialing the number you wish to reach, waiting for an operator to answer (English-speaking only) and telling him / her you'd like to make a free phone call to this number. You will need to repeat the number again to the operator, then you'll be connected, the person you're phoning to will be asked if he's willing to pay a phonecall from Russia, and voila. The cheapest way to phone abroad , is to use a special telephone card for IP-telephoning . You can use these cards from any phone in Moscow, even public ones. Just dial the Moscow access number written on the card, switch to the tone mode (usually a * (star) button), dial your PIN and then the number you're calling. There are many companies selling those cards, such as Comstar (Maxicard) or Rinotel, besides they have an English-language menu to explain you what to do while calling. Those cards can be bought either directly from the providers or easier from the telecom shops (sa`lon s`vyazi - usually next to metro stations -- the places where cell phones and accessories are sold). Regarding the prices, IP-cards from MTU cost 150 R ($5) and one minute of speaking with US, Canada, Western Europe costs $0.2. Even if you're calling from a public phone, the phonecall will cost you the same $0.2, plus $0.07 a minute you'll have to pay for the payphone.

You can also buy phonecards online , this way you will be able to use your card instantly. Using Mobile Phones in Moscow

All the operators have the same level of service and about the same prices: about $0.20 for a minute of a local call (incoming or outcoming), and $0.15 mobile to a mobile. Normally, you will be able to subscribe for a short period of time, because there are no 1-year minimum term contracts in Russia -- you can usually cancel with 1 month notice. To subscribe, you just can go to any telecom shop (there are many), pay a set-up fee ($30-$90) and a deposit $35-$40 which will directly go on your account, and you'll have a new SIM card and phone number. Just make sure your mobile isn't blocked by another provider. Once subscribed, if you want to add money to your account, you can buy a top-up card, which is sold in most shops.

Sending the Post in Russia

If you want to send something by post from Russia, you can do it either through the government post service or a courier service - the difference is the price and speed. State post service. The government post system in the whole Russia is unexpensive, not quality enough and slow, either if you send it inside or outside of Russia. Besides, sometimes the letters don't come at all. It'll be ok in the most cases with the parcels though.

How to send it. You should buy the post stamps at a post office, which you can find by Pochta sign. Post offices usually work monday - friday from 9.00 to 19.00 and saturday - 9.00 to 17.00, sunday is day off. The stamps you need to send a letter to Western Europe will cost around 12 R ($0.5). For that price your letter will arrive in 2-4 weeks. You can send your letter or postcard by putting them at any of the light blue post boxes on the streets or directly at the post office (better). Sending an average (around 500gm) parcel costs around $15 A more secure option is to go directly to the main post office of Moscow - Tsentralny Telegraph (Central Telegraph), it's on Tverskaya ulitsa, #7. It'll cost around $3 to send a letter from there and it'll take 2 weeks for it to arrive.

Courier services. It costs about $50 US to send a letter with a major courier service (see contacts below) from Russia to Europe, and about $70 US to the USA. I don't live in the UK. Can I take out a Post Office Travel Insurance policy?

We’re sorry, but no. Our policies cover UK residents only (including those in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man).

My partner and I live at separate addresses. Can we still buy family cover?

Family cover is available on Post Office Travel Insurance single-trip and annual multi-trip policies.

It covers a person and their husband, wife, civil partner or Common Law Partner (who must be residing with them). It also covers any dependent, adopted or fostered children or grandchildren aged under 18.

Family cover is not available on our backpacker policies.

Is there an age limit for single-trip and annual multi-trip travel insurance policies?

There’s no upper age limit for single-trip policies. For annul multi-trip policies you need to be 75 or under.

Is there an age limit for backpacker travel insurance policies?

Yes, you must be aged between 18 and 60 years of age when your policy starts.

Backpacker policies are only available on our economy level cover.

Covid-19 cover and trip durations

Does post office travel insurance include coronavirus cover.

All new Post Office Travel Insurance policies include a degree of cover against Covid-19 related disruptions, such as cancellation, curtailment and medical costs in some circumstances.

We also offer a trip disruption cover option that provides protection in other scenarios. These include missed departures or changes in testing and quarantine rules.

How long can I travel for on my Post Office Travel Insurance policy?

It depends on the level of cover.

Policies sold from 31 March 2022 to 27 March 2024

Single-trip travel insurance covers you for trips of up to:

  • 365 days (for persons aged up to and including 70 years)
  • 90 days (aged 71 to 75)
  • 31 days (aged 76 and above).

Annual multi-trip policies cover you for: 

  • 17 days per trip (with economy and standard cover levels)
  • 31 days per trip (premier cover).

If you pay the appropriate extra premium, this can be extended to:

  • 31, 45 or 60 days (economy, standard) 
  • 45 or 60 days (premier)

You can take as many trips as you like as long as you’re not away for more than 183 days in the policy year.

Our backpacker travel insurance policy covers you for trips lasting anything from 31 days to 18 months.

Policies sold from 28 March 2024

Trip durations for policies sold from 28 March 2024 are the same as for those sold before that date.

The maximum trip duration annual multi-trip policies will cover is 31 days. This can be extended to 45 or 60 days with optional trip extension upgrades.

How long must a UK trip be to be covered by my travel insurance?

For your Post Office Travel Insurance policy to cover you for trips in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, the following rules apply.

  • For multi-trip policies, 1 nights’ pre-booked accommodation must be in place, and can’t be a stay with family or friends, or your stay must be at least 100 miles from your home, or you must have at least 1 sea crossing

For example, if you fly from Scotland to Cornwall to stay with friends and family in their home or second home and your baggage was lost or damaged on the way it wouldn’t be covered. Similarly, if you have a second home of your own this doesn’t class as pre-booked.

This doesn’t apply to trips taken overseas, outside your country of residence.

Are flight cancellations covered on my policy?

There’s no cover for flight cancellation on your Post Office Travel Insurance policy if you have not already started your trip. If the airline cancels your flight before you arrive at your departure point you should always discuss this with your airline or travel provider to see what options are available to you.

Regulation EU261

This is a regulation that protects passengers in the event of inconvenience caused by long flight delays or cancellations of European flights. It allows up to £520 compensation per passenger in the event of such disruptions.

Entitlements are only in force if the delay or cancellation is within the airline’s control and has not been deemed an “extraordinary circumstance.”

However, if you’re delayed at the airport on your outbound or inbound journey, several of our cover levels provide cover for the delay, any missed departure it causes and, if the delay is of a longer duration, abandoning your trip if you decide to do so. Please read the answers below for details.

What flight delay scenarios aren’t covered?

We will be unable to process claims for delayed flights if:

  • You don’t arrive at your departure point in the recommended time for your scheduled departure
  • You claim for delays having already made a claim for missed departure
  • You’ve travelled against a non-essential travel advisory from the FCDO – and the cause of the delay is related to that advice
  • You claim for a delay less than 4 hours
  • You haven’t provided written confirmation from your travel provider of the duration of and reason for the delay
  • You were aware of the strike/industrial action (or any other listed peril) prior to buying your travel insurance policy or booking your trip
  • You haven’t provided any written confirmation of the vehicle breakdown/traffic delays

While at the airport my departure from the UK was delayed. Is that covered?

If you bought our standard, premier, max or extra cover levels, you’re covered if you arrive at the airport and your flight is delayed due to one of the following – including if this will impact a further connecting flight or flights to your final destination:

  • Industrial action
  • Bad weather not including anything listed as a natural catastrophe
  • Technical fault of transportation including bird strikes
  • Shortage of crew

If a flight you’re booked on is delayed for 4 hours or more for one of these reasons and you have a standard, premier, max or extra policy, you can claim for each 4-hour delay, up to a maximum of 12 hours, upon your return to the UK. Please check the policy wording for the delay benefit amount depending on the level of cover chosen.

If it’s a premier policy, you can also make use of Flight Delay Assistance Plus if you’ve registered for it. This means that, upon a delay of 1 hour or more, you can receive either a lounge access voucher or a £25 payment into your PayPal account. (For policies sold from 31 March 2022 to 27 March 2024 the amount was £50.)

What if delayed departure leads to me abandoning my trip?

If you’re a standard, premier, extra or max policy holder, we provide abandonment cover if you arrive at the airport and your flight is delayed by 12 hours or more due to:

If that happens, and you aren’t offered an alternative flight within 12 hours or provided with a refund, and you hold one of the cover levels listed, then cover is provided for your unused travel and accommodation costs.

This policy is designed to provide a refund of your unused travel and accommodation costs, at the point we are satisfied that these expenses cannot be refunded elsewhere. If your trip has been booked or paid for via one or more of the following, you must contact them to discuss a refund before claiming from us: a tour operator; an airline; any other travel, accommodation, or service provider; a credit or debit card provider or other payment providers such as PayPal.

There is no cover for delay or abandonment for trips taken solely within the UK

Am I covered if I miss a departure from the UK?

If you have our Standard, Premier, Extra or Max level cover and are delayed on your way to your departure point in the UK due to one of the following reasons, and this causes you to miss your pre-booked transportation (such as an outbound flight), we’ll cover it:

Delay or cancellation of public transport due to:

  • Bad weather not including anything listed as a natural catastrophe 
  • The vehicle you are travelling in is involved in an accident, breaks down, or is delayed by an incident that causes traffic jams or road closures
  • The flight you are travelling on is diverted 

Please note:  Public transport includes flights

You’ll be covered up to the sum insured for either additional travel and accommodation costs to get you to your destination. Or, if the only reasonable alternative transport means you’ll lose more than 50% of your trip, you can claim for unused travel and accommodation costs.

Am I covered for travel delay outside of the UK?

You are at the airport abroad, and there is a delay in your flight leaving to return to the UK.

On Standard, Premier, Extra and Max policies, there’s cover if you arrive at the airport abroad and your flight back to the UK is delayed or cancelled due to:

  • Mechanical fault of transportation including bird strikes

If you’re delayed by at least 24 hours beyond your original return date, there is cover for additional transport costs to return you home when these aren’t paid for by your travel provider, up to the limit for your level of cover.

We’ll pay a delay benefit for each full 4-hour delay up to a maximum of 12 hours for the sum insured for your level of cover.

If your trip has been booked or paid for via one or more of the following, you must contact them to discuss a refund before claiming from us: a tour operator; an airline; any other travel, accommodation, or service provider; a credit or debit card provider or other payment providers such as PayPal.

Am I covered if I miss a departure from outside the UK?

What if you are delayed on your way to the airport abroad and miss your pre-booked return flight home, or you have no travel documents and are delayed in obtaining them, so are unable to make your flight?

Medical Assistance Plus

Does my policy include medical assistance plus.

If you bought your Post Office Travel Insurance on or after 3 July 2023 it includes Medical Assistance Plus.

How much does Medical Assistance Plus cost?

Nothing. Medical Assistance Plus is included in all policies sold from the 3 July 2023, no matter the type or level of Post Office Travel Insurance you’ve purchased. It applies whether you bought your insurance on the Post Office website, in branch, via our contact centre, on the app, or even through a comparison website.

How do I access the Medical Assistance Plus service?

Within 48 hours we'll send you an email with a unique link to launch the service. This has all of your details. Just enter your date or birth to validate and the service will launch for you.

If you’re traveling within 48 hours of purchase you can launch the service directly from our Medical Assistance Plus page on the Post Office website, then choose to continue in browser or open in app on your mobile device.

As an extra reminder, we’ll also send you a reminder SMS message the day before you travel (for single-trip and backpacker insurance) or the day before your start date of your policy (for annual multi-trip insurance). This will include links to launch the Medical Assistance Plus service.

What illnesses and situations can I use Medical Assistance Plus for?

Medical Assistance Plus is for outpatient medical care only. This includes any non-emergency medical services, including:

  • GP (general Practitioner)
  • Orthopaedist
  • Paediatrician
  • Gynaecologist

If an online or in-person consultation concludes that in-patient care is required, your medical case will then be handed over to the Emergency Medical team in the UK to be managed for wherever you are.

When shouldn’t I use the Medical Assistance Plus service?

If you require immediate emergency care, you should go directly to a hospital or an emergency clinic.

There is no cover for trips taken within the UK.

Are there any limitations to the service?

This service is not available for trips taken in the UK, only for international travel. The service allows up to 3 separate medical events per person and for each medical event up to 3 appointments per person listed on the policy.

What languages can I receive my medical care in?

The global network has over 20,000 doctors in 75 countries, including the most popular destinations such as the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, China, Japan, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Thailand, and Nepal.

The doctors in the network speak a wide range of languages, so travellers can find one locally who speaks either their native language or one in which they are comfortable conducting a consultation.

When browsing for doctors in the app, simply filter your search by your preferred language. When scheduling video consultations, you can also select your preferred language when you make the appointment request.

If you’re unable to find a doctor who speaks your preferred language, please head to the “Contact Us” section in the app to get assistance from our customer care team.

Will I have to pay for any support or treatment I receive while I'm away?

No, Medical Assistance Plus is covered by your Post Office Travel Insurance policy. There are no upfront fees or extra payments required. You automatically get access to Medical Assistance Plus, no matter what type or level of insurance you’ve purchased from us. All appointment charges are covered by your travel insurance policy under Medical Assistance Plus. You won’t need to pay any excess fees for this service. For any online appointments or where the appointment was held at your accommodation, where a prescription is issued, you’ll need to pay for any medication and claim upon your return home.

No excess will be applied for any prescription charges. If your appointment takes place at a clinic and they have a dispensing chemist, you won’t need to pay for your prescription and all charges will be covered by your policy at the point of appointment.

If there’s no dispensing chemist at the clinic, you’ll either be given a prescription or the prescription will be sent to a chemist by the treating doctor and you’ll need to pay for any medication and claim upon your return home.

If your medical situation needs to be handed over from an outpatient case to an inpatient case and requires hospital admission, you will be handed over to our emergency medical assistance team in the UK. For any inpatient cases, no excess will apply.

Is my electronic prescription valid anywhere in the world?

You’ll be able to check with your doctor if they can prescribe a valid prescription in your current location. Make sure with the selected doctor before your consultation if they can provide a prescription based on your electronic prescription.

There’s no cover for trips made in the UK and you should see your GP practise you’re registered with in the UK for any appointments or prescriptions.

Flight Delay Assistance Plus

Registering your flights, how do i register a flight.

We'll send you an email with details of how to register for the service online as soon as you buy our premier travel insurance. If you arranged your policy in a Post Office branch or don't have an email address, all the information you need will be in your policy confirmation pack.

To register your flight you’ll need to set up self-service for your account and add your flight details there.

Can all flights be registered?

Flight Delay Assistance Plus is built to track almost all major commercial airline flights, but there are limitations against airlines/airports that do not report data regularly. You can register any flight where the airline accurately reports the announcement to FlightStats. If you try to register a flight that does not meet these conditions, the system will inform you of this and you will not be able to register.

Where the flight is departing from an airport with a lounge that's part of the  LoungeKey network you’ll be offered the choice of a lounge voucher, or PayPal payout in the event of a delay Not every airport has a lounge and if this is the case the PayPal option will be selected for you.

Can I register more than one person?

Yes, you can include up to four additional passengers who are named on your Post Office Travel Insurance policy when you register. Make sure the names you register match exactly those included on your flight booking or boarding passes and travel insurance.

Why has my flight registration failed?

Registering your flights could fail for two reasons:

  • You’re attempting to register less than 24 hours before your scheduled departure time
  • Not all airlines provide timely and accurate flight tracking data which is necessary for us to trigger compensation and issue your benefit

As such, we restrict registrations for airlines that do not provide reliable tracking data. This is done to ensure the best possible experience for customers.

Can I cancel a flight registration?

Yes, you can cancel a flight registration up to two hours before your scheduled departure time. Please do this via the link in your registration confirmation email.

LoungeKey lounge access

What is loungekey.

It's a global network of  over 1,100 airport lounges .

How will I know if free lounge access is available to me?

During your flight registration you’ll be provided with the lounge access option at the "Select Your Benefit" stage. If you have selected this option and a qualifying delay is met, we'll send an SMS text and email message with a PDF voucher attached, so you'll need a mobile device with you that can accept them. These messages are sent if:

  • You register the flight online at least 24 hours before its scheduled departure time
  • There's an announcement about a minimum one-hour delay (either a single delay or an accumulation of multiple shorter delays amounting to two or more hours)
  • You selected lounge as your benefit option

How will I receive free LoungeKey access?

You'll need a mobile device that can receive SMS texts and emails with PDF attachments. If your flight's delayed by one hours or more, we'll automatically send you:

  • A text notification, which includes a link to your PDF LoungeKey voucher
  • An email with a PDF attachment containing your free LoungeKey voucher
  • The SMS and emails will also contain the vouchers for any other passengers you registered

Are children welcome in the lounges.

Not all lounges are open to younger passengers. You can check out the lounge policies at  your departure airport .

Why can't I gain access to a lounge?

There are a number of reasons why you might not be able to access a lounge, even if you have a valid voucher:

  • If the lounge is closed when the delay occurs – during the night, for instance
  • If the lounge is at full capacity
  • If the passenger names on the boarding passes don't exactly match those on the LoungeKey voucher
  • If you or a member of your group doesn't meet the lounge terms and conditions, such as dress code or minimum age

How much will i receive.

We’ll provide a compensation payment of £25 per passenger into your PayPal account.

Will additional passengers receive a payout?

Yes, we’ll send you an email and SMS to let you know the PayPal payout has been issued.

We’ll pass your email address to PayPal when we trigger the PayPal payout request.

How do i make a claim on my travel insurance policy.

What should I do if I need emergency medical assistance while on a trip my policy covers?

Please call the emergency medical assistance line that’s correct for your policy as soon as possible. It’s open 24/7. The number to call is 0203 865 3074 .

How do I renew or cancel the renewal of my Travel Insurance policy?

When you buy an annual multi-trip policy, it’s your reassurance of continuous cover for all the trips you’ll take in a year. For reassurance that extends beyond that, your policy can be renewed automatically or manually. You can also make sure your policy doesn’t renew if you don’t need it to. Whatever you choose, we’ll write to you around 28 days before your current policy’s end date with details of any changes we’ll make should you wish to renew it and a quote for the next year’s cover.

Automatic renewal: if you buy an annual multi-trip policy, it will be set to renew automatically at the end of its term to keep you covered. If you prefer to opt out of this, you can do so then or any time during the policy. You can also turn auto renewal on later. Just call our contact centre. If you’ve declared medical conditions for anyone listed on the policy, it can’t be set to auto renew.

Manual renewal: if you’ve opted out of auto renewal, you can opt in manually later, such as when we send your renewal reminder or by calling our contact centre to set this up. It’s easy to renew through your online account or by calling our contact centre. If you miss the renewal date, you can still take out a new policy later. You’ll need to start a new quote, as the renewal quote is only valid until your current policy’s expiry date. This may also mean a gap in your cover until the new policy starts.

Turning off auto-renewal: if your policy’s set to renew automatically but you change your mind later, you can turn it off at any point during the life of the policy. You can do this yourself in your online account or call our contact centre team. If you’re within the last 8 days of your policy, you’ll need to call our contact centre to do so. The later you do this the greater the chance a renewal payment will be taken by the bank. If this happens before your renewal cancellation is processed, we’ll make sure your payment is refunded.

In a blistering article in the Daily Telegraph, former home secretary Suella Braverman has laid the blame for the Conservative's poor showing in the local elections at the feet of Rishi Sunak.

But she says it would be wrong to replace him.

Ms Braverman writes: "Let me cut to the chase so no one wastes time overanalysing this: we must not change our leader.

"Changing leader now won't work: the time to do so came and went.

"The hole to dig us out is the PM's, and it's time for him to start shovelling."

She goes on to say that victories for councillors in her constituency, and the win for Ben Houchen in the Tees Valley mayoral race, were with "with no thanks to the national Conservative 'brand'".

She goes on to call for action from the government on a variety of issues, including tax, migration, small boats and law and order - adding that she wants to see "strong leadership, not managerialism".

Not changing course will mean the party has "no one else to blame when this week's political earthquake is made to look like a mere tremor come the general election night".

Transport Secretary Mark Harper is out to bat for the government after the Conservatives lost hundreds of council seats and managed to win only one mayoral election.

He will be looking to steady the ship - with potential rebels against Rishi Sunak waiting in the wings when MPs return to Westminster.

Pat McFadden , the shadow chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, will have an easier job as Labour's representative on the airwaves this morning.

The party clinched the West Midlands mayoralty last night by 1,508 votes, ousting Conservative incumbent Andy Street - after also romping home in London and a swathe of other contests.

Trevor will be speaking to John Swinney , who is eyeing a return to the top of the Scottish National Party after Humza Yousaf's resignation.

Elsewhere, the deputy director of the European Broadcasting Union - Jean Philip de Tender - will be speaking to Trevor about Eurovision and political row over Israel.

Richard Parker has pulled off a surprise victory in the West Midlands mayoral election.

The Labour candidate unseated Andy Street, winning by just 1,508 votes, to end the Tory's seven-year term.

Here's what you need to know about the relatively unknown politician.

Originally from Bristol, Mr Parker's father was a dock worker and his mother a school secretary.

He left school aged 16 and went straight to work at a local port authority before getting an economics degree.

Mr Parker went to work for PwC in 1989, where he gained his accountancy qualifications and went on to become a partner, managing the accountancy firm's relationship with the Labour Party.

Mr Parker also worked with council leaders to set up the West Midlands Combined Authority in 2016 before leaving to set up his own company RP Strategy.

Tory incumbent Andy Street has suffered a shock defeat to Labour in the West Midlands mayoral election after a partial recount was ordered.

Labour's Richard Parker beat Mr Street by just 1,508 votes - 0.25% - to deliver a major blow to Rishi Sunak in the key electoral battleground after a hammering in the local elections.

With the race neck-and-neck, in the end it came down to the results in one borough - Labour-supporting Sandwell.

"This is the most important thing I will ever do," Mr Parker said in his acceptance speech.

"I promise you that I will deliver jobs," he added.

He told Sky News he would take buses "back into public control" and deliver the "largest programme of social housing we've had in this region for more than 40 years".

And he thanked his predecessor, who he said had "led this region through a number of great challenges and you deserve great credit for that".

Labour's win in the West Midlands has left Rishi Sunak with "just one man standing", Sky's  political editor Beth Rigby  says. 

The Conservatives have now lost all of the mayoral races in this election, with the exception of Tees Valley. 

Beth says one senior Labour figure has told her the West Midlands was the Tory scalp Labour really wanted - and were pulling resources from Tees Valley to make it happen.

"They were really fighting hard to take this Tory jewel from the crown," she says.

The "energy and the euphoria was palpable" within the Labour camp after victory was declared, Beth says .

"They were so wired, excited, euphoric about this win because for them it is huge."

She says you could feel among the Labour activists, and Sir Keir Starmer himself, that they are beginning to feel "they can really do this" in the general election.

Symbolically they can say "we took your crown jewel in the West Midlands and we are coming for those seats".

"It gives Starmer momentum and it will leave the Conservatives hugely deflated," she adds.

Labour's new mayor for the West Midlands Richard Parker tells Sky News he plans to "work really closely with a future Labour government".

"I think that's the best way for us to work together for the wider benefit of this region," he says.

Mr Parker defeated Tory incumbent Andy Street in a major blow to the Conservatives.

Labour's election success is a "vindication of the hard work that we've done to change the Labour Party," Sir Keir Starmer says.

He heralds the "phenomenal result" in the West Midlands, which saw Labour's Richard Parker defeat the Tory incumbent. 

But he says Labour is now stepping up again towards the general election "so that we can serve the working people once again as a new and changed party".

He is asked about the extent to which Labour's stance on the Gaza war has cost the party votes.

"Where we have not been able to persuade people who might otherwise have voted for Labour, it is important to acknowledge that - to say I have heard, I've listened and I am determined to meet the concerns they have and win back their trust and confidence."

"But nothing takes away from the significance of this victory here in the West Midlands," he says.

Labour's Richard Parker is appearing alongside Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer after winning the West Midlands mayoral race. 

"It's time for a fresh start ... we start on Monday," Mr Parker says to a loud applause.

Speaking next, Sir Keir declares: "What a way to end the local elections in 2024". 

"This is a significant piece of political history that we have made here today," he says.

Defeated Conservative mayor Andy Street tells Sky News he would advise against his party drifting to the right, saying his brand of "tolerant conservatism" has come "within an ace of beating the Labour Party".

"The thing everyone should take from Birmingham in the West Midlands tonight is this brand of moderate, inclusive, tolerant conservatism that gets on and delivered has come within an ace of beating the Labour Party in, what they considered to be their backyard," he says. 

"That's the message from here tonight."

Asked if he is worried the Conservative party is drifting to the right and over-emphasising the threat from Reform UK while "ignoring other voters", he said: "I would definitely not advise that drift.

"The psychology here is really very straight forward isn't it: this is the youngest, most diverse, one of the most urban places in Britain and we've done, many would say, extremely well over a consistent period.

"The message is clear: winning from that centre ground is what happens."

Mr Street lost to Labour's Richard Parker in the West Midlands mayoral race by a margin of 1,508 votes.
