The 21-year-old was hampered by a stomach bug during her loss at the Australian Open but her tennis was encouraging and she stepped up her comeback with victory over Marie Bouzkova in Abu Dhabi before being denied a spot in the quarter-finals by Ons Jabeur.

I've been feeling really good physically. I did a lot of gym work at the end of last year when I couldn't train but there have been no setbacks. Emma Raducanu on Sky Sports Tennis
She received a wildcard into the Qatar Open on Friday where she has been drawn to face world No 32 Anhelina Kalinina in a tough opening round match, with former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko awaiting the winner.
Speaking on Sky Sports Tennis as the new channel launched, Raducanu said: "It's been good for me to have a few matches under my belt now and in practice I'm really improving some specific areas technically. I think that is really helping me and now it's just about implementing it more and more in matches. I started relatively recently after surgery, so it's only been two months of me back on court.

"I played a really good match in the first round last week [against Bouzkova] so I'm looking to build throughout the season.
"Honestly, I feel really good physically in terms of niggles or anything. The one thing is I haven't had a lot of matches in a week back to back, but I've been pulling up completely fine so that's refreshing for me because a lot of the time in 2022 and 2023 I was hurt after one match.

Laura Robson's column: Emma Raducanu, Andy Murray and working with Nick Kyrgios
"I've been feeling really good physically. I did a lot of gym work at the end of last year when I couldn't train but there have been no setbacks."
Raducanu, who has reunited with childhood coach Nick Cavaday, added: "My main goal is to stay healthy injury-wise, sickness-wise, also another goal is consistency. One thing I needed to do after Australia was that I knew I had areas to develop and obviously when you start working with a new coach they implement new things, so you want to give yourself time to do that, but on the tour there is no time.
"In recent months I made a few technical tweaks so I mean to try and change something technically it's difficult. You start with hand feeds, baskets, drilling, point play and then match play. I think I made some tweaks straight after Australia into Abu Dhabi and seeing them in the first-round match was a real positive for me. That's a week of practice and seeing it come through was encouraging."
Where could Raducanu play after Qatar?
The first two WTA 1000 tournaments of the season are in Doha from February 11 - when our dedicated Sky Sports Tennis channel launched - and Dubai on February 18.
Whether Raducanu plays Dubai will likely depend if she receives another wildcard, as her ranking is currently not high enough to get into the main draw.
She is ranked at No 296 in the world although she is set to rise to No 261 following her latest win. Not even her protected ranking (which is given to players who are out of action for an extended period) of No 103 is enough to get into the draw at most top tournaments.
But given the fact she is a former Grand Slam champion and draws in big crowds, there is a high possibility she will be offered wildcards into the main draw of many future tournaments.
After that, we could well see her at Indian Wells in early March.
The third WTA 1000 of the season is set in the California desert and is known as the unofficial fifth Grand Slam. It is one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar as it has a larger draw size of 128 singles players. The Miami Open which follows will also be an option for her.
Whether we will see Raducanu represent Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup or the Paris Olympics is not yet known. Great Britain play France again on April 12-13, but Raducanu may not feature.
The tie will be played on indoor clay, which is the same surface as the following week's tournament in Stuttgart, where Raducanu is likely to play as it is organised by Porsche, one of her sponsors.
Last year she lost in the first round while in 2022 she made the quarter-final.
What is a protected ranking?
A player who is out of competition for more than six months but less than one year may use her special ranking for up to eight tournaments in a one-year period. A player who is out of competition for one year or more may use her special ranking for up to 12 tournaments in a one-year period. If a player is out of competition due to pregnancy or a medical condition, she is allowed three years to use her special ranking. In the event of pregnancy, the time period is calculated from the birth of the child. Upon her return, a player is eligible to use her special ranking for seeding purposes at the first eight WTA tournaments she plays. A player may freeze her ranking up to two times. Under the previous rule, a player was allowed to freeze her ranking just once.

Qatar Open draw: Iga Swiatek-Jelena Ostapenko rematch on cards, Emma Raducanu features, Coco Gauff leads bottom half
Iga Swiatek and Jelena Ostapenko are once again on a collision course as they are in the same quarter of the Qatar Open although both players have tricky early encounters to negotiate.
The top eight seeds in the draw have a bye into the second round and two-time defending champion Swiatek will face either Sorana Cirstea or 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the first round while she could meet 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round.
If the seeding projections hold, then Swiatek – who is assured of staying at No 1 even if she loses early as world No 2 Aryna Sabalenka opted not to play – will face Ostapenko in the quarter-final in what will be a rematch of their 2023 US Open last-16 clash that was won by the Latvian.
Ostapenko is in good form as she is 13-2 in 2024 having won the Adelaide International and the Ladies Linz.
However, the eighth-seeded Ostapenko herself has a tough path as she will meet either Emma Raducanu or Anhelina Kalinina in the second round. Raducanu, who lost in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open last week to take her record for 2024 to 3-3, accepted a late wildcard into the main draw.
Ostapenko could face former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka or Beatriz Haddad Maia in the third round.
The winner of the first quarter is projected to meet either Ons Jabeur or Maria Sakkari in the semi-final.
Fourth seed Jabeur faces Lesia Tsurenko or wildcard Zeynep Sonmez in the second round while she could meet Naomi Osaka or Caroline Garcia in the third round. Osaka and Garcia meet again just weeks after facing each other in the first round of the Australian Open.
Seventh seed Sakkari starts against either Linda Noskova or a qualifier with ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova a projected third-round opponent.
With no Sabalenka in the draw, world No 3 Coco Gauff leads the bottom half of the draw and she will face either Donna Vekic or Katerina Siniakova in the second round. The American could face 14th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the third round with Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova a likely quarter-final opponent.
A Coco Gauff-Elena Rybakina semi-final could be on the cards with Rybakina headlining the third section. Rybakina kicks off her campaign against either Zhu Lin or Varvara Gracheva while she could meet 16th seed Emma Navarro in the third round and Australian Open runner-up Zheng Qinwen in the quarter-final.

Saudi Arabia to host WTA Finals until 2026 with record £12m prize money
- WTA chief says deal is positive step for growth of women’s tennis
- It will be biggest annual women’s event in the country
Saudi Arabia has won the race to host the next three editions of the WTA Finals , the flagship tour event in women’s tennis, offering a record prize money of $15.25m (£12m) for what will be the biggest annual women’s sporting event held in Saudi Arabia.
The WTA Finals, the tour’s year-ending championships, feature the top eight singles players and doubles pairs in the world competing for the title. The WTA Finals will be held in Saudi Arabia from 2024-26, with this year’s edition taking place from 2 to 9 November.
The agreement between WTA and the Saudi Tennis Federation had been anticipated by tour insiders since the end of last year. It has already received significant criticism due to Saudi Arabia being accused of sportswashing its human rights records and the restrictions placed on women in the country.
Earlier this year, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert urged the WTA not to hold the event in Saudi Arabia in an op-ed with the Washington Post .
In a statement, Steve Simon, the WTA Chairman and chief executive, said: “Bringing the WTA Finals to Riyadh is an exciting new opportunity for us and a positive step for the long-term growth of women’s tennis as a global and inclusive sport.”
Last year, the WTA and Saudi Arabia had been in talks to hold the event there before the tour decided on a one-year deal in Cancún, where the event offered prize money of $9m (£7.1m).
The 2019 edition, the first of what was supposed to be 10 years in Shenzhen, China, had offered the previous record prize money of $14m. The event was cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and then, after the WTA’s short-lived public protestations over its concerns for Peng Shuai’s personal freedom following her accusations of sexual assault against the former Chinese vice premier Zhang Gaoli, last year Shenzhen broke away from their deal.
Since it was cancelled in 2020, the event has been held in Guadalajara, Dallas-Fort Worth and Cancún on successive one-year deals. Last year’s edition was criticised by the players for heavy winds and an uneven court surface making conditions extremely difficult in a temporary stadium completed days before the event began.
