Pack travel documents and any medication you take. We suggest packing comfortable outfits that are ideal for walking around and sightseeing.  You will also want to bring one or two nicer outfits for dinners out or at the hotel.  Pack comfortable walking shoes and a swimming suit.  For the beautiful beaches, remember to bring plenty of sunscreen and a pair of sunglasses.  For the mountains, a light jacket will be nice.

Quick Checklist For Women:

• Jeans (or any pants you are comfortable in longer than knee-length)
• A long skirt that you can dress up for dinners or wear to be cool

The easiest way to get the local currency is to bring a bank card and withdraw cash as needed. You will be able to find Banks and ATMs in every major Sri Lankan city. Sri Lanka is mainly a cash society. Hotels, larger restaurants, and some more touristy businesses in main tourist cities will accept major credit cards, but most smaller stores do not. We recommend that you keep a ready supply of cash, including small change for taxi fare and miscellaneous tipping on hand during your stay in Sri Lanka. If you do pay by credit card, we recommend that you double check the receipt before signing, as working in an unfamiliar currency can allow you to be charged more than you expected, either intentionally or inadvertently.  A currency conversion app on your phone would be a helpful tool.

Please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions! We will do our best to serve you and will certainly communicate this to your driver and hotels. However, we also want you to be aware of a few things. We have no control over “traces” of nuts or any other allergens in containers, or bags, or kitchens. Sri Lanka does not have the same food standards as the United States and other countries. If you have a member of your tour who has a serious condition, you may want to bring food with you based on the seriousness of the allergies. We also have no control over what insects you may come into contact with. If you are in any questionable circumstances, you will want to be extra careful.

Our drivers are licensed to give tours of Sri Lanka. Your driver will guide you throughout Sri Lanka assisting in any way needed as he makes sure you enjoy the journey and arrive safely at your destination.  Your driver will be your “eyes” into the culture of Sri Lanka as he is very knowledgeable about the sights and history of Sri Lanka.  All of the drivers that we work with are fluent in English, so that they are able to communicate well with you. Drivers typically stay in lodging near your hotel and are available when needed.

Sri Lankan electrical sockets/outlets have all been standardized to the type G plug.  If your appliance’s plug doesn’t match the shape of these sockets, you will need a travel plug adapter in order to plug in.  Most hotels will have adapters, but we advise travelers to bring their international travel adapter.

Electrical sockets/outlets in Sri Lanka supply electricity at between 220 and 240 volts AC. If you’re plugging in an appliance that was built for 220-240 volt electrical input, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need.

IMPORTANT : Travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same 220-240 volts the socket is supplying. North American sockets supply electricity at between 110 and 120 volts, far lower than in most of the rest of the world. This being the case, North American appliances are generally built for 110-120 volts. That doesn’t mean that your specific appliance isn’t already compatible with the higher voltage or that you won’t be able to use your appliance in Sri Lanka…you will just need to make sure that your appliance will be able to facilitate 220-240 volts and that you have the appropriate adapter plug.

Sri Lanka is completely safe to travel to with the resumption of political stability in July 2022. Things have calmed down, and the country is on its way to recovery.

2. Do I need a visa to travel to Sri Lanka?

All visitors to Sri Lanka must obtain a visa, either on arrival to Sri Lanka or in advance. Most visitors entering for tourism purposes are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in order to receive a visa on arrival, unless they are exempt from obtaining one. 3. When is the best time to travel?

It depends on your destination, activities and season of travel. Our destination specialists will recommend certain travel times after learning more about your preferences. The favorable months are usually December - March for the west coast and south coast , and from April - September for the ancient cities and the east coast . Ranil hat für meine Mutter und mich 2017 eine 10 tägige Rundreise auf Sri Lanka organisiert. Wir haben die Rundreise aus Deutschland heraus gebucht und Ranil hat sich super um alles gekümmert: Vom Abholen am Flughafen bis zum Abliefern an unserem Strandhotel am Ende der Rundreise! Dabei begann der Urlaub mit leichten Startschwierigkeiten:Unseren Flug hatte KLM hatte gestrichen, sodass wir nicht wie geplant um 16 Uhr gelandet sind sondern erst 3 Uhr nachts! Wir haben uns schon seelisch auf eine Nacht im Flughafen eingestellt, weil wir damit gerechnet habe erst morgens abgeholt werden. Aber als wir Ranil geschrieben wann wir ankommen, hat er nur mit einem Ok geantwortet und gesagt dass er uns dann eben um 3 abholt und zum mehrere Stunden entfernten Hotel bringt. Dabei hatte er, wie im ganzen Urlaub, immer gute Laune und hat uns jeden Wunsch von den Lippen abgelesen. Die Rundreise war traumhaft und viel besser als es mit einer größeren Reisegruppe hätte sein können. Ich kann es wirklich nur jedem Empfehlen eine Rundreise mit Ranil zu machen!

For our two week tour of Sri Lanka we contacted Ranil based on a recommendation. This turned out to be an absolute stroke of luck. After a few phone calls and emails, our tour was complete. Taking our age and fitness (time difference, heat) into account, we created an individual round trip with him that was perfect for us. We have adapted a tour package he already offered for our interests and needs (Culture Triangle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Horten Plains, Worlds End, tea plantations, train ride to Ella, river rafting Kitulgala, Yala Safari, Rakawa Beach Turtle Egg Storage at night, Udawalawe Safari, Tangalle, Cooking Class Ranil is an excellent driver/guide who drove us carefully and safely through the traffic system, which we did not understand. We felt safe and comfortable with him at all times and became friends with him after a short time. Through his friendly and respectful dealings with people and his subtle sense of humor, we have had many wonderful experiences. The round trip and hotels were very well planned and we will always remember the many small excursions and detours. Thank you again Ranil for accompanying us everywhere and looking out for us, which certainly cannot be taken for granted. The booked middle class accommodations were all great and very clean. Ranil knows Sri Lanka very well and he not only showed us the visits and regions we had previously planned with him, but also many things worth seeing on the tour off the usual tourist path. Thanks to his extensive knowledge and good connections, he was always able to arrange a good local guide or jeep driver for us. Cooking course, rafting, hikes will certainly remain in our memories. We also learned a lot about the country and its people through many good conversations with him outside of his normal working hours and also with locals with whom we would otherwise never have spoken. Before we left, Ranil invited us to visit his family at his house. There we were excellently cooked by his wife and we were able to get an insight into the life of a modern Sri Lankan family. Sri Lanka itself is such a fantastic holiday destination. COVID-19 was better under control there than in Germany and we definitely felt safe. Thank you again for this unforgettable time – we keep our fingers crossed that more tourists will soon come to Sri Lanka and that your country will soon be on the up again economically. We can recommend Ranil 100% at any time and thank you again for the fantastically beautiful time in beautiful Sri Lanka.

We are very happy that we decided to take our annual trip to Sri Lanka again after the problems caused by Covid and despite the difficult economic situation. We didn’t notice anything at all about the difficulties reported in the media. The now modernized hotels, restaurants and sights could be used without any problems or restrictions. There weren’t any demos or other problems. People wear masks everywhere and keep their distance, and sufficient safety measures have also been taken. We found Ranil in 2017 through our internet search for a German-speaking travel guide in Sri Lanka. The contact in advance by email and Whatts app telephony was very uncomplicated because he speaks German and English well. Ranil accommodated all of our extra requests with ease. Changes in route and accommodation were not a problem. Since then we have traveled through this beautiful country with him every year. For professional reasons, I (female, 65) have already traveled with him twice alone and he took good care of me, so that I felt safe at all times. We have tried different round trip models with Ranil. Sometimes tours organized by him in advance, sometimes spontaneous hotel searches. Due to his good contacts, this was not a problem either and we were as flexible as possible. It was really extraordinary 14 days that we were able to experience with Ranil again. From the warm welcome at the airport to departure. Apart from the visits planned for our round trip, we visited many places and places that are not included in normal tourist round trips (cooking courses, turtle night watching, remote mountain temple complexes) and saw a lot at many stopovers. Thanks to Ranil, we always have a lot of contact with the locals, with whom we would otherwise not be able to communicate due to a lack of good English skills. Ranil is an excellent and safe driver and knows all the beautiful corners of Sri Lanka. He knows the best Ayurveda masseurs and Ayurveda pharmacies, the most delicious banana, coconut, mango and other fruit stalls and safe restaurants where tourists can safely eat very cheaply. The hotels he chose were all great and often better than middle class. Dear Ranil, we thank you again for the wonderful 14 days and are already looking forward to the next tour with you and leaving your beloved Sri Lanka with a smile.

Wir haben es nicht bereut, dass wir uns nach den durch Covid verursachten Problemen und trotz der schwierigen wirtschaftlichen Situation für unsere alljährliche Reise nach Sri Lanka entschieden haben. Von den in den Medien berichteten Schwierigkeiten bezüglich Krawalle und Notstand haben wir kaum etwas bemerkt. Die Hotels haben die Zeit genutzt und modernisiert, Restaurants und Sehenswürdigkeiten konnten ohne Probleme und Einschränkungen genutzt werden. Es gab keine Demos oder andere Probleme. Überall tragen die Menschen Masken und halten Abstand, zudem wurden ausreichende Sicherheitsmaßnahmen getroffen.

Auf Ranil sind wir im Jahr 2017 über unsere Internetsuche nach einem deutschsprachigen Reiseführer in Sri Lanka gestoßen. Der Kontakt vorab per Email und Whatts App Telefonie war sehr unkompliziert, da er ausreichend gut deutsch und englisch spricht. Ranil erfüllte alle unsere zusätzlichen Wünsche mit Leichtigkeit. Änderungen der Route und Unterkunft waren kein Problem. Seitdem reisen wir jedes Jahr mit ihm durch dieses wunderschöne Land. Aus beruflichen Gründen bin ich (weiblich, 65) schon zweimal alleine mit ihm gereist und er hat sich gut um mich gekümmert, sodass ich mich jederzeit sicher gefühlt habe. Wir haben verschiedene Rundreisemodelle mit Ranil ausprobiert. Mal von ihm vorab organisierte Touren, mal spontane Hotelsuche. Aufgrund seiner guten Kontakte war auch das kein Problem und wir waren so flexibel wie möglich. Es waren wirklich außergewöhnliche 14 Tage, die wir wieder mit Ranil erleben durften. Von der herzlichen Begrüßung am Flughafen bis zum Abflug. Abgesehen von den für unsere Rundreise geplanten Besichtigungen haben wir viele Orte besucht, die in normalen touristischen Rundreisen nicht enthalten sind (Kochkurse, Schildkröten-Nachtbeobachtung, abgelegene Bergtempelanlagen) und bei vielen Zwischenstopps viel gesehen. Dank Ranil haben wir immer viel Kontakt zu den Einheimischen, mit denen wir uns sonst mangels guter Englischkenntnisse nicht verständigen könnten. Ranil ist ein ausgezeichneter und sicherer Fahrer und kennt alle schönen Ecken Sri Lankas. Er kennt die besten Ayurveda-Masseure und Ayurveda-Apotheken, die leckersten Bananen-, Kokosnuss-, Mango- und andere Obststände und sichere Restaurants, in denen auch Touristen sicher und sehr günstig essen können. Die Hotels, die er auswählte, waren alle großartig und oft besser als Mittelklasse. Lieber Ranil, wir danken dir nochmals für die wunderbaren 14 Tage und freuen uns schon jetzt auf die nächste Tour mit dir und verlassen dein geliebtes Sri Lanka wieder mit einem Lächeln.

Unter Berücksichtigung unseres Alters und unserer Fitness (Zeitverschiebung, Hitze) haben wir mit ihm eine individuelle Rundreise zusammengestellt, die perfekt zu uns passt. Es gab immer genügend Zeit zum Ausruhen. Wir haben ein von ihm bereits angebotenes Tourpaket an unsere Interessen und Bedürfnisse angepasst (Kultur-Dreick im Norden,  Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains, Worlds End, Teeplantagen, Zugfahrt nach Ella, River Rafting Kitulgala, Yala Safari, Rakawa Beach Schildkröteneierablage nachts,  Udawalawe Safari, Tangalle, Kochkurs)  Ranil ist ein ausgezeichneter Fahrer/Führer, der uns vorsichtig und sicher durch das für uns chaotische Verkehrssystem gefahren hat. Wir haben uns bei ihm jederzeit sicher und wohl gefühlt und uns nach kurzer Zeit mit ihm angefreundet. Durch seinen freundlichen und respektvollen Umgang mit Menschen und seinen Sinn für Humor haben wir viele schöne Erlebnisse gehabt. Die Rundreise und Hotels waren sehr gut geplant und die vielen kleinen Ausflüge und Abstecher werden uns immer in Erinnerung bleiben. Nochmals vielen Dank Ranil, dass du uns überall hin begleitet und auf uns aufgepasst hast, was sicher nicht selbstverständlich ist.  Die gebuchten Mittelklasse-Unterkünfte waren alle super und sehr sauber. Ranil kennt Sri Lanka sehr gut und er zeigte uns nicht nur die zuvor mit ihm geplanten Besuche und Regionen, sondern auch viel Sehenswertes abseits der üblichen Touristenpfade. Dank seines umfangreichen Wissens und seiner guten Verbindungen konnte er uns immer einen guten lokalen Führer oder Jeep-Fahrer vermitteln. Kochkurs, Rafting, Wanderungen werden uns in bester Erinnerung bleiben. Durch viele gute Gespräche mit ihm – außerhalb seiner normalen Arbeitszeit – und auch mit Einheimischen,  haben wir auch viel über Land und Leute gelernt. Am Ende der Tour hat Ranil uns noch vom Strandhotel abgeholt und uns eingeladen, auf dem Weg zum Flughafen, seine Familie in seinem Haus zu besuchen. Dort wurden wir von seiner reizenden Frau hervorragend bekocht und konnten einen Einblick in das Leben einer modernen srilankischen Familie bekommen. Sri Lanka ist ein fantastisches Urlaubsziel. COVID-19 war dort aufgrund der Sicherheitsmaßnahmen und Rücksicht der Menschen besser im Griff als in Deutschland und wir haben uns jederzeit sicher gefühlt. Nochmals vielen Dank für diese unvergessliche Zeit. Wir drücken fest die Daumen, dass bald mehr Touristen nach Sri Lanka kommen und das Land wirtschaftlich bald wieder auf dem Vormarsch ist. I really enjoyed the ayurveda tour, which I customised to do some sight-seeing as well. Mr. Lal went out of his way to make the tour memorable, driving for over 10 hours on some days so that I could see as much as possible, and get a good dive into the Sri Lankan culture, cuisine and lifestyle.

The tour with Lanka Safe Tours was great, we started with the driver/guide Akeel, after a few days Akeel had to leve to make acquaintance with his bride and Dinesh "took control", after two days Akeel came back and did the rest of the trip. It wasnt simple with us, we had extra-wishes and didnt want to see animals because we've seen enough of them. So they had to change plans all the time, but they managed it quite eficiently. For us, the Lions Rock in Sigiriya, the dancers show in Kandy, the vew over the mountains and the waterfalls in Ella, especially the cloud crossing the hotel lobby, wer the hilites. And Mirissa, the last station, was paradise. Except for the mane rode with all its trafic, but we know thare is nothing the agency can do for it, they certanly cant aford building a new rode only for pedestrians. Anyway Akeel and also Dinesh wer always frendly, eficient and good drivers, we always felt safe despite the bus drivers driving like berserks, the truks, cars, tuktuks, motorbikes, dogs, monkys and ellefants playing on the rode. Sri Lanka is a safe, nice and butiful country ennyway.

Day 1 Negombo

Welcome to Colombo! 

On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), you will be met in the arrivals hall by a local representative and escorted to your waiting private chauffeur guide who will be transferred to your Negombo hotel. Check in and relax after your international flight.

Your private chauffeur guide is at your disposal for the duration of your trip. During any free time, your private chauffeur guide is available to take you on any extra sightseeing, shopping, or to a recommended lunch or dinner. You will be given your private chauffeur guide’s mobile number at the beginning of your trip and he or she can be reached at any time during your stay.

Day 2 Negombo Sigiriya

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then meet your private chauffeur guide who will take you on a tour of Negombo. Vist the local fish market and understand the traditional methods of catching and drying fish. See the remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort and Negombo Lagoon, lined with fishermen’s huts which feeds into the Dutch-era Hamilton Canal.

Following your morning tour, we drive approximately 3 hours to Sigiriya arriving mid-afternoon at the beautiful Sigiriya Jungles resort. Take time to relax and unwind in the hotel grounds, take a dip in the pool or venture to the hotel lookout for incredible views of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Day 3 Sigiriya Anuradhapura Sigiriya

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the hotel before we travel approximately an hour to visit the UNESCO site and ruins of Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka and is known for its well-preserved ruins. Visit the sacred Bo Tree, a spiritual reminder of the beginnings of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and the inspiration for Anuradhapura’s great buildings. The ruins themselves are spread over quite a large area, some in woodland settings and others appearing park-like with columns and ponds dotted about.

Travel back to Sigiriya where the afternoon is a leisure. Alternatively, you may wish to join an optional tour of Minneriya National Park.

Day 4 Sigiriya Sigiriya Rock Fortress Polonnaruwa Sigiriya

After breakfast, proceed to Sigiriya Rock Fortress and climb ther monolith, one of the most extraordinary artistic complexes of its time (477 – 498 AD). Declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1982, this magnificent citadel allures artistic and architectural curiosity from around the globe. 

Return to the hotel late this morning with time to relax before we head out this afternoon to visit the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa was declared as an UNESCO heritage site in 1982. After the demise of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa became the middle historic capital of Sri Lanka (1017 – 1235 AD). In comparison to Anuradhapura, here your private chauffeur guide will show you well preserved remains of temples and ancient homes and describe the meaning behind the relief and carvings that can still be seen today. 

Following our tour, travel back to Sigiriya in time for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Day 5 Sigiriya Dambulla Matale Kandy

After breakfast, we leave Sigirya and proceed to Kandy via the Dambulla Cave Temple Built in the first century BC, It is recognized to be the largest cave sanctuaries in the world with its 2000 m2 of walls and ceilings painted more than 150 Buddha images whose largest engraved in the rock reaches 14 metres.

Following this, we visit one of the spice gardens in Matale. Enjoy a tour through the garden as you learn of the different spices that have framed Sri Lanka’s trade history. Learn of the harvesting process and the use of each spice in Sri Lankan cooking and herbal medicines. 

We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then continue our journey to Kandy, “The Hill Capital” (1514 – 1815 AD). Originally known as Senkadagala, the city eventually came to know as Kandy, derived from the word “Kanda” meaning “the Mountain”. Kandy was declared as an UNESCO heritage site in 1988. The style and character of the Sri Lankan civilization at the time is well articulated in the heart of the city itself, with its lake, the temples including the Temple of the Tooth Relic and the well-preserved ruins of the royal palaces. 

Arrive at the hotel late this afternoon where the rest of the day is at leisure. 

This evening, you may wish to join an optional cultural performance followed by dinner.

Day 6 Kandy

After breakfast, visit the lake and the beautiful Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, this venerated temple is a deeply spiritual and sacred Buddhist site that contains a fragment of the tooth of Buddha, collected from his funeral pyre.

Following our morning tour, we enjoy an Inspiring Taste as we join a local in their home to learn the art of traditional Sri Lankan cooking. Get an understanding of the locally grown spices and their importance to Sri Lankan dishes, then learn to make five different curries using traditional methods cooked over an open fire in clay pots. Afterwards, enjoy the benefits of your tuition as you enjoy lunch together. 

Return to the hotel where the rest of the day is at your leisure before enjoying dinner at the hotel.

Day 7 Kandy Nuwara Eliya

Today ascend by rail towards the British hill station of Nuwara Eliya. The train journey is truly a great local experience and an adventure in itself. Apart from the breathtaking scenery of the tea country and picturesque waterfalls, it is a chance for you to mingle with the local people. 

On arrival into Nuwara Eliya, we head to the hotel to freshen up and have a short rest.

This afternoon, enjoy an Inspiring Taste at probably the most talked about property in Nuwara Eliya, with an indulgent high tea at the iconic Grand Hotel.  The High Tea can be taken at any time from 12pm - 6pm and is included as your lunch today

Note: Sri Lanka Railway tickets can only be booked 30 days prior to departure. The 1st and 2nd class is basic but has air-conditioning. The non-air conditioned 3rd class sometimes is the only option based availability. On the rare occasion the train is fully booked we’ll conduct the route by road. Your chauffeur guide will transport your luggage to Nuwara Eliya and you will travel by yourself.

Day 8 Nuwara Eliya

For those adventure seekers, you may wish to join an optional hike to the incredibly scenic Horton's Plains and World's End (see below for more detail). 

Today we tour Nuwara Eliya. Often referred to as ‘Little England’, this genteel highland community we see the rose-tinted colonial-era bungalows and its beautiful gardens and lake. Also today, we visit a tea plantation and factory. Here you will enjoy an absolute tea experience, taking you from the moment young tea leaves are plucked to being processed in the factory to make a steaming cup of tea. If you are interested, the tea factory is the best place to purchase high quality tea.

Return to your hotel where the rest of the afternoon is at leisure. 

At approximately 5:30am, leave for Horton Plains National Park. This park holds great importance due to the rich and unique biodiversity and being a catchment area feeding some of the main rivers of Sri Lanka. It is also known to be a 'super biodiversity hotspot' and thus declared a UNESCO site in 2010. The national park is most famous for the vista - World's End.

You will be accompanied by a private escort the entire duration of the hike - from the Horton Plains Park Park Office, to World's End (via Mini World's End) and back. Wear strong and comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunglasses. Bring sunscreen, food and water. The weather can change very quickly on the plains – one minute it can be sunny and clear, the next chilly and misty. Bring a few extra layers of warm clothing.

There are no safety rails available so we recommend this activity for those who are physically fit and go on long walks often. We do not recommend this if you have a difficult time walking along uneven, potentially wet, and rocky terrain. 

Day 9 Nuwara Eliya Yala National Park

This morning after breakfast, depart for Yala National Park. Enroute, travel through incredible landscapes and make several stops at stunning local waterfalls before continuing to Ella and onto Yala. 

On arrival, enjoy lunch before proceeding into the National Park to spend the afternoon on a private guided game drive. Being one of the largest parks in Sri Lanka, it is the ideal place to possibly sight elephants, sloth bears and the elusive leopard.

Return to your hotel and enjoy dinner. 

Note: Yala National Park closes for a period between the months of September and October. The exact closure dates are made clear closer to the time. The closure is due to the prevailing dry weather prior to this time and taking into consideration the well-being of the wildlife in the reserve. For departure dates that fall over this period, Yala National park will be replaced with a visit to Udawalawe National Park, while still being able to visit Block 4 or 5 of Yala National Park.

Day 10 Yala National Park

This morning, enjoy another safari in the Yala National Park by private jeep to spot the diverse wildlife which calls the park home.

Return to the hotel for breakfast and enjoy a free day to relax.

Visit a typical farm to witness how local people use traditional methods to make buffalo curd. End your lesson with a tasting of this popular and delicious Dessert.

Day 11 Yala National Park South Coast

Continue east today along Sri Lanka's picturesque coastline.

Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day relaxing by the pool or in the sea. We recommend heading to a local restaurant or beach bar and enjoying the coastal scenery. 

Day 12 South Coast

Today is free to relax by the pool, walk along the beach or try a local cafe or restaurant for some tasty treats. 

If a day of relaxation is not your thing, your private chauffeur guide is at your disposal to show you around the local area, or to take you to one of the local restaurants or bars.

Day 13 South Coast Galle

Enjoy breakfast overlooking the ocean before we head to Galle and enjoy a tour of the Galle Fort. This is a city that exudes an essence with a perfect blend of past and present. Declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1988, the presence of Portuguese, Dutch and British is evident in the fascinating architectural styles of the fort. Walk the relaxed residential streets inside the fort and keep an eye out for some great local shopping and cafes as well as some excellent photo opportunities.

Enjoy lunch at one of the local colonial styled restaurants before you check into your beautiful heritage property situated in the heart of the city of Galle inside the historic Dutch Fort. 

The rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure to wander the narrow streets of this beautiful heritage town filled with museums, boutiques, cafes and antique stores.

Day 14 Galle Colombo

After breakfast  head north towards Colombo. Along the way, visit the small town of Balapitiya where you will take a boat trip on the Madu River and its 64 scattered islands. Cinnamon Island, locally known as “Kurundu Doowa” is one of the islets you’ll visit to get an informative experience of cinnamon production. Sri Lanka is the largest producer of pure cinnamon in the world.

On arrival into Colombo, check into your hotel located in the heart of the Galle-Face district and enjoy some time to relax and wander the local streets. 

This evening, tour the capital of Sri Lanka, whose long history as a port on the ancient east-west trade route, was ruled by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. This heritage is reflected in its architecture, mixing colonial buildings with high-rises and shopping malls. 

Enjoy a final dinner to celebrate your time in Sri Lanka.

Day 15 Colombo

Today, your Sri Lankan adventure concludes as you are transferred (approximately 4 hours prior to your flight) to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in time for your departure flight - please ensure tour fligh details are inputted into your Traveller Hub portal no later than 90 days prior to travel or your transfers may not be confirmed.

Should your flight be departing in the PM, feel free to store your bags at the hotel's reception and spend the day at your leisure. Your private guide will let you know what time you will be required to meet your private airport transfer at the hotel.

Please note: If you are departing the destination later and have made your own arrangements post to your tour, airport transfers will not be included. However, if you are purchasing post-nights accommodation as part of your Inspiring Vacation airport transfers will still be provided for departure.

This package is sold as land only, however you do have the option of adding domestic & international airfares to your booking. Simply click on’ book now’, and under upgrades ,  you will be asked “Would you like us to contact you around our flight service?” . By selecting this option Inspiring Vacations will contact you to discuss adding flights to your chosen destination. We can then assist with turning your booking into a flight inclusive package. Upon completing the purchase of your package and fulfilling the following booking requirements, you will be granted access to our flight portal via your Traveller Hub.

• 1st installment or full payment has been made
• Your booking is within 11 months of departure
• Your booking is labeled as ‘confirmed’ in Traveller Hub

Once these criteria have been met, access will be made available to you via Traveller Hub to book your flights via our flight portal. The following requests are able to be processed through the online flight portal:

• Airline Preferences - You may wish to fly with a particular airline
• Cabin Preferences - These include upgrading to premium economy or business class
• Extensions (start and end cities must remain the same) - You may request to extend your stay pre or post tour.

The online flight portal is unable to process the following requests and you must book these yourself independently:

• Stopovers - Is where you might want to stop in transit for a certain amount of days prior to your tour or after your tour.
• One way flights
• Different start or end city to the tour - you may not amend the arrival or departure city of your itinerary. 
• Around the world tickets  - Is when a ticket includes multiple stops in different continents.
• Return home to a different city from the one you departed.
• Frequent Flyer point redemption - Is when an airline allows you to redeem points to pay for your flights or upgrade your ticket.  

Online check-in 

Some airlines may not permit online check-in where flights have been booked by a travel company. Where unavailable to do so online, you will be required to check-in at the airport. Inspiring Vacations cannot check-in online on behalf of our customers

Important Information

Fitness Requirements While the tour itinerary should give you some guidance and overview to the expected requirements, to determine if this tour is right for you we categorise each of our tours in terms of their intensity. These guidelines are to ensure that each tour group is conducted as expected and to ensure the overall satisfaction of all Inspiring Vacations customers

As a general rule, porterage is not included, therefore at all times you are expected to handle your own luggage where help may not be available.

This particular tour is categorised as a”3”

3 – Moderate Tour: A good level of fitness and mobility is required, as this tour includes a moderate level of physical activity and is considered a medium-fast paced tour. You should be able to walk up and down stairs, get on and off the coach and able to walk reasonable distances of approximately 2 kilometres per day or more with ease. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at the time of booking to determine your suitability. If you have any form of walking aids, other than a walking stick or hiking poles, then this tour is not suitable.

Tipping A friendly reminder that tipping is not included in your package. At the commencement of your tour you will be asked to provide tipping to your guide towards a ‘kitty’, which is then used towards the guide tipping for the services of helpers, hotel staff, restaurants and airport porterage. You will be asked for AUD$35 per person. Please note that this tipping is not for the guide or driver, merely for the guide to tip the services of other local workers during your tour. Tipping towards the kitty is compulsory. Your cooperation in this instance is most appreciated.  

Further, tipping for your guide and driver will be collected at the conclusion of their services.  To remove the uncertainty and stress of not knowing how much is appropriate to tip we recommend AUD$6 per person per day for your guide and AUD$3 per person per day for your driver to be paid in local currency. The amount you wish to contribute is dependent on the services received and at the complete discretion of the guest. Thank you for your understanding.

Accommodation The accommodation listed is subject to change. Any changes will be of an equal or higher standard. Bedding configurations (double or twin) are requests only. All efforts will be made to meet your preferences, however, any changes are beyond our control.

Single Supplement Single supplement is $1,206.00 per person, in addition to the twin-share price.

The Single Supplement applies to a person who wishes to have their own room but who is part of a travelling party. For example, 2 people travelling together who both wish to have their own rooms OR a party of 3 people where 2 people share a twin room and 1 person has a single room. The single supplement would be applicable to the person wishing to stay in their own room.

Tour Length The total length of the tour in days includes time spent in flight and is subject to change depending on the flight schedule, please refer to the day by day itinerary for the time spent on land.

Travel Insurance Travel insurance is recommended to protect yourself against the unexpected. In addition to the support that a policy may provide, you may be asked to present a copy of your travel insurance documentation while traveling.

Visa & Passport information It is the traveller's responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of return.

An e-visa is required for entry into Sri Lanka. The Department of Immigration and Emigration launched a system called "Electronic Travel Authorization - ETA" in order to grant prior approval for a visa online for foreign nationals who visit Sri Lanka. You can visit http://eta.gov.lk/slvisa/ to purchase your visa online. E-Visa's are only valid for 30 days, so you can only apply closer to your travel dates. please do not apply for your visa until you have your travel documentation. It will take 3 business days to be approved. The cost is US$50 per person.

Please note that you must select your Optional Tours no later than 70 days before departure, after which you will be required to purchase them on tour. Although smaller in size to Yala National Park, Udawalawe National Park is considered one of the world's best places to see wild elephants. Largely comprised of grasslands and bush forest, Udawalawe is also one of the best national parks in Sri Lanka for game spotting and being far less crowded than Yala, it makes for a more enjoyable experience for travellers and therefore, we believe is a more than suitable alternative for one safari day. You will still be able to visit Block 4 or 5 of Yala National Park, so you are able to experience both.
