Their Nibs cosmetic bag set, pink Mardi Gras

Their Nibs.png

Best: Overall

Rating: 10/10

This eye-catching wash bag duo includes a large and small zip-up option in the vibrant pink, floral and peacock feather Mardi Gras print. The biggest bag is 18cm x 28cm x 5cm and easily stores at least five 100ml bottles, or multiple miniature items. Meanwhile, we used its matching pouch for lipstick, eyeliner, and hair scrunchies.

The pretty satin-effect bags are machine washable and they both have a durable lining featuring Their Nibs branding, which we found quickly wipes clean. Our tester liked that the stunning print is combined with design practicality at a reasonable price. Between the two wash bags, we could pack plenty of toiletries, makeup, and accessories, and particularly enjoyed having a twin pair for travelling.

The Flat Lay Co. open flat drawstring make-up bag, tropical leaves print

Flat lay co.png

Best: For quick access

Rating: 8/10

This nifty wash bag design comes in different colours and prints, including the green, gold, and the white tropical leaves one we chose. When opened – as the name suggests – it lies completely flat, so we could access all our products at once. There’s an internal zip-up pocket, and elasticated loops to hold mascara or make-up brushes, as well as a hanging hook.

Once full, we pulled the drawstring fastening and watched it quickly scoop up all our items. On the outside, there are two Velcro-fastening pockets for storage without unravelling everything. We appreciated the perk of grabbing products in a rush from this lightweight wash bag, minus any rifling through.

Fiils travel wash bag with rose gold minis

Fiils.png

Best: Sustainable buy

Rating: 9/10

A useful buy for taking liquids away with you, this stylish silver vegan leather wash bag is made from recycled materials and includes four refillable 100ml aluminium bottles. Plus, a removable insert to stand them up in, and the option of pump or screw-top caps. There are three bottle colours to choose between including silver, copper, and the sleek rose gold we sampled.

We used this wash bag both with the bottles in and without, to keep nail varnish, make-up, or other cosmetics. There’s a zip pocket for secure inside storage too. Each bottle is named for use, across shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion picks, but we also found them handy to hold toner, cleanser, and make-up remover on the go.

Aromatherapy Associates iconic wash bag

Aromatherapy.png

Best: Vegan-friendly wash bag

A classic cream wash bag made from vegan leather, finishing touches include gold Aromatherapy Associates branding and a raised metal logo. The curved washbag has a 20cm length and 17cm height and is fully lined. This is an ideal option if you prefer muted accessories minus any print. Plus, we noted that any spills easily wiped off the cream material. Our tester put skincare products, perfume, or travel-sized haircare in the small wash bag, with their volume deciding how many would fit. As a rough guide, we slotted four 100ml bottles in comfortably.

M&S hanging make-up bag, blue

M&S.png

Best: Affordable buy

This vegan leather hanging wash bag is available in coral and sage, as well as the powdery light blue shade we chose. It unfolds to reveal two transparent zipped pockets and a detachable make-up bag held in place by Velcro, which is a generous size for multiple full-sized products. A silver hook at the top enables hanging so we could see and store our products at the same time.

The dimensions when folded are 20cm x 28cm, with the length growing to 56.5cm after opening. We appreciated being able to compartmentalise packing, keeping our phone charger in a separate section to skincare. The sturdy gold zips and textured leather-look finish make the wash bag appear more expensive than its £15 price tag too.

The White Company leather wash bag, white

The White Company.png

Best: Luxury buy

This spacious white leather wash bag is 18cm x 28cm x 14.5cm and has a strong zip closure. Our tester took the sturdy bag away for a weekend and packed several items inside, including glasses, contact lens solution, hair products, face wash, a toothbrush, perfume, and an electric shaver. We also found the extra inside pocket ideal for popping in lipsticks, and hair ties.

We think this is a timeless wash bag option, which has a luxury feel. It’s robust, without being stiff, so it can be squeezed into a jam-packed suitcase too. And although it has a premium price tag, the high-quality leather and stitching look like they would last well for years to come.

Whistles Lenni quilted nylon wash bag, dark grey

Whistles.png

Best: For space

This roomy washbag is 21cm x 32cm x 12cm and includes a black looped handle for hanging up and a sturdy zip fastening. Our tester liked the hardy dark grey nylon outer that doesn’t mark easily and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The tactile quilted finish adds a stylish edge, and we can see dual purpose clutch bag potential too.

There’s a separate grey inner lining, and a slight stiffness so the wash bag holds its shape well. We could fit a large hairbrush and several full-sized shampoo, conditioner, and skincare products inside with ease. Plus, because the bag has a wide base, the zip wasn’t stretched even when full of toiletries.

Rawr Beauty terry towel cosmetic bag, pink

Rawr beauty.png

Best: Fun wash bag

This bright pink terry towel wash bag is a small square shape with a gold zip fastening. At just over 20cm in length, there is enough room to store a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a few cosmetics. As it’s lined with quite a thick polyester inner, we found the terry towelling didn’t get wet from toothbrush sogginess either. The wipe-clean pouch worked equally well for storing a full stash of make-up on the move, without being bulky in our bag. Its bold shade and towelling texture add an uplifting summery vibe too.

FatFace bee print wash bag

Fatface.png

Best: Fore make-up

This navy blue (19cm x 9cm x 10.5cm) wash bag features a cute bee print and tassel zip detail. The outer composition is 100 per cent cotton, while its lining is polyester, which we found was durable against spills. As the shape is long and slim, our tester mostly used this wash bag for make-up, while bottles and tubes were well protected in transit, as the material and structure are quite tough. There’s also more than enough space for holding lipstick, foundation, mascara, eyeliner, an eyelash curler, a small eyeshadow palette, and blusher inside, with plenty of room to spare.

Barbour quilted wash bag

Barbour.png

Best: Soft wash bag

This soft material wash bag of (15cm x 24cm x 4cm) lies flat when not in use for compact storage. The stitched quilted design features a chic pink check print, and logo branding on the front and zip. There’s a contrasting plain interior, and the material is polyester throughout. Although wiped clean, our tester was careful not to mark it too much because of the pale pink shade. We stored the wash bag in our hand luggage on a trip, for holding lipstick, hair accessories, and hand cream. Alternatively, we could fit several small skincare bottles in there too.

Otis Batterbee makeup vanity bag, camel tiger

Otis Batterbee.png

Best: Vanity case wash bag

This medium-sized (21cm x 17cm x 15cm) vanity case is made from vegan-friendly leather and features a glam animal print design. Straightaway we noticed how well made it looks and feels, with finishing touches including a chic top handle. There are four small pockets inside with popper fastening details as well as a separate lid pocket and detachable make-up mirror. Our tester used these clever compartments for hair clips, lipstick, and jewellery.

We found we could fit multiple bottles of perfume, foundation, and skincare in the main inner, which is waterproof to protect against make-up spills. All in all, this is a stunning carry case wash bag, with a structured shape much like a luxury handbag.

The verdict: Women’s wash bags

We rated Their Nibs’ cosmetic bag as our best buy for being a matching pair to suit packing needs at a reasonable price point. Meanwhile, Otis Batterbee’s makeup vanity bag is a stunning carry-on wash bag, with clever compartments. Finally, Fiils’ travel wash bag with rose gold minis offers a stylish, sustainable option with handy refillable bottles for liquid storage.

There are a few things every traveler needs, no matter where in the world they're going — and a toiletry bag is one of them. The humble case might be an afterthought to some, but these helpful bags are crucial to keeping your travel essentials organized.

We tested 58 toiletry bags and cosmetic cases (and will continue to test them for a period of at least six months) in order to bring to you the best of the best, evaluating their capacity, design, portability, and value. We also considered the overall quality of the bags, as well as their ease of use on real trips.

Taking our test results into consideration, we've put together a list of the best toiletry bags across various categories; you’re sure to find one that suits your needs.

Best Overall

Away large toiletry bag.

This bag holds more than you'd expect from just looking at it.

The limited edition colors often sell out fast.

You might be most familiar with Away for its selection of hardside luggage and weekender bags, but the brand carries travel accessories, too, including this large toiletry bag that earned high marks across the board during our tests.

Though we found the bag to be even roomier than expected, there are so many individual compartments including a clear cosmetic bag, a zippered pouch, two mesh linings, and an exterior pocket, to name a few. You won't be reaching into a bottomless pit, rummaging around for individual products here. We also love that the bag zips open wide enough for you to reach inside with ease. We packed it with both large and small items, from travel-size liquid bottles to makeup brushes, and there was still room for more.

We also noted the durability of the water-resistant nylon, which is lightweight without feeling cheap. The interior of the bag is coated with an easy-to-wipe material, allowing you to clean up any spills quickly. The bag comes in five color options (with limited edition colorways offered on occasion), as well as a smaller size option and a hanging version of the bag.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.7 x 5.9 inches | 8.8 ounces | 3.6-liter capacity | Nylon | Water-resistant

Most Packable

Aer travel kit 2.

Not only is it packable, but you can hang it up to save counter space at your destination.

Its more petite size means that it's not ideal for full-size toiletries.

Hello, carry-on-only travelers! This toiletry bag by Aer offers the best of both worlds: it's compact enough to stash in your carry-on or personal item, but it's spacious enough to hold all your toiletries. During our tests, we were able to fit hairspray, dry shampoo, conditioner, lotions, deodorant, a small electric toothbrush, toothpaste, perfume, toner, and medications in this bag. Of course, being that this bag is so compact, they were all travel-size products , not full-size ones.

We also loved that this toiletry kit has a hook that you can twist at different angles, making it easy to hang on doorknobs, towel racks, or bathroom bars to save counter space. And we appreciated the fact that it has several interior and exterior pockets for further organization.

The Details: 9 x 6.5 x 3 inches | 8 ounces | 2.5-liter capacity | Cordura ballistic nylon | Water-resistant

Best Waterproof

Line+arc the dopp kit.

This large bag fits just about everything, including large eyeshadow palettes.

It's a bit bulky — and fairly heavy when full.

You might be wondering why you need a waterproof toiletry bag, since it's usually tucked into a larger bag when you're traveling. The answer is simple: bathroom sinks. Toiletry bags often sit on wet surfaces, so it's not a bad idea to invest in a waterproof model like this one by Line+Arc. Though the bag has a loop for hanging, we felt comfortable leaving it on the sink due to its waterproofing, which we found to be particularly effective.

Beyond its waterproof material, we were impressed by this toiletry bag's spaciousness — we could even fit an eyeshadow palette the size of a small book inside — and more specifically, for its wide-open mouth, which allowed us to access everything with ease. Of course, because it's so large, it did get a little bulky and heavy when we packed it full, so it might be best for checked or carry-on suitcases instead of smaller personal items or weekender bags.

The Details: 11 x 6.5 x 3.5 | 1.2 pounds | 3.5-liter capacity | Silicone | Waterproof

Travel + Leisure / Julia Sayers Gokhale

Best Organization

Peak design wash pouch.

The bag is lined with high-density foam for extra protection.

It would be nice if there were more colors to choose from.

When you have a large number of toiletries to bring with you on vacation, the best thing you can do is choose a toiletry bag that helps you keep everything organized. This is that bag! Though it appears small from the outside, the bag is so thoughtfully designed with organizational tools — we found that there's a pocket for just about everything. The main compartment is large enough to fit small bottles, while mesh pockets of various sizes line the walls, so you can tuck in your favorite tinted moisturizer , for example. There's also a separate pocket for your travel toothbrush , which keeps it nice and clean.

Other highlights include a wide opening to access each pocket easily and the ability to stand on its own thanks to the bag's layer of high-density foam that also helps protect the items inside. It also has a handy hanging hook if you'd prefer to keep some counter space clear.

The Details: 10.2 x 6 x 4.4 inches | 8.7 ounces | 2.5-liter capacity | 200D nylon canvas | Weatherproof

Best Dopp Kit

Beis the dopp kit in atlas pink.

It's extraordinarily spacious and capable of holding what three standard-size toiletry bags can carry.

You can only open one compartment at a time.

What’s a dopp kit, anyway? Though the term is used interchangeably with toiletry bag today, the dopp kit was originally devised by German leather maker Charles Doppelt and was popular with military personnel in the 20th century. It typically takes the silhouette seen here in this Béis bag: a large main compartment, sometimes with side pockets.

Béis' dopp kit, however, has an extra compartment beneath the main one (like the well-known Béis weekender bag ). On the plus side, we absolutely love having all this extra space. In our tests, we were able to fit the capacity of three standard toiletry bags into this one. So if you're an overpacker, this is the bag for you. Note that you can only open one compartment at a time, though — the top one needs to be closed if you open the bottom one, otherwise all your items will fall out. But a big pro to this setup is that it's a very sturdy dopp kit, and it stands alone with ease, thanks to its wide base.

The Details: 6.5 x 11 x 6 inches | 14 ounces | Cotton-jute canvas or poly canvas | Water-resistant lining

Travel + Leisure / Dera Burreson

Best for Men

Bagsmart toiletry bag for men.

It opens wide with a double zipper.

It's made of canvas, which may be hard to clean but is water-resistant.

Fun fact: dopp kits were originally designed for men so it makes perfect sense why this one is designed to fit shaving and grooming products in particular. It's made of canvas for a rough-and-tumble look, and it's offered in six colors (mostly neutrals, but also light pink) and two sizes. Though we consider it sturdy enough to stand on its own, we also found it flexible enough to stuff into a packed weekender.

As for storage capabilities, there's a main compartment that's accessible via a double zipper, which means the kit opens nice and wide for you to be able to access your items. That main compartment can fit bulkier items, while smaller items can fill the pockets along the sides. There are also two separate side pockets, one of which is designed to hold wet items.

The Details: 10.2 x 5.9 x 6.3 inches | 6.4 ounces | Canvas | Water-resistant

Best Hanging Bag

Sea to summit hanging toiletry bag.

Small and lightweight, it's perfectly portable.

It has to hang as it won't stand up on its own.

When it comes to hanging bags, this one is perfectly balanced. It's made from an ultrathin, water-resistant nylon and takes the shape of a saddlebag, which is ideal for hanging. We found that no matter how many items we stuffed in there, the bag never really felt weighed down; all the products were perfectly situated and easy to access, thanks to a plethora of pockets.

This bag also comes with a detachable mirror, which makes it great for outdoor adventures when you don't have access to a vanity, as well as handles for easy transport. Ultimately, it is perfect for people limited on space and weight, whether they're on a multiday trek that requires them to carry all their gear or traveling for an extended period of time with limited storage space. The toiletry bag comes in two sizes (we tested the smaller one) and three color options.

The Details: 9 x 6 x 3 inches (small); 10 x 9 x 4 inches (large) | 2.8 ounces (small); 4 ounces (large) | 3-liter capacity (small); 6-liter capacity (large) | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Budget

Wandf toiletry bag.

It's the most affordable option on this list and comes in more than 20 colors.

The main compartment only has one zipper, which makes it a little tough to retrieve items.

As you're probably well aware by this point, toiletry bags can get quite expensive — but they don't have to be. This is a particularly budget-friendly model, yet it accomplishes just about everything you'd need a toiletry bag to do. For one, it has multiple compartments. And for another, it's a water-resistant case, which means it can handle being splashed on a bathroom counter.

The compartments are both the success and the downfall of this toiletry bag. We were beyond impressed with the amount of space inside the main compartment, as well as with the two side compartments with mesh pockets. But we found that the main compartment was almost too spacious and could benefit from another divider of some kind. Given its size, it could also benefit from a double zipper opening, which would allow you to access more items throughout the bag than the existing single zipper.

The Details: 10.24 x 4.72 x 5.91 inches | 3.53 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Splurge

Tumi response travel kit.

It opens like a clamshell for easy access.

The outer material is not water-resistant.

Luxury brand Tumi doesn't only make high-end suitcases and travel bags — it also makes high-end toiletry bags. Made from ballistic nylon, this is one of the most durable toiletry bags out there, and it wouldn't be surprising if this bag lasted years, even with regular use.

Its best feature is the fact that it opens like a clamshell, with two distinct compartments in each half. That makes it easy to access everything in the bag, whether you're laying it flat on a countertop or you're hanging it via the attached hook. There are four pockets, including one water-resistant one, and two elastic loops to hold products like toothbrushes or razors. We think it’s a reasonably spacious bag, but only for travel-size products — that's why we'd recommend it for short trips rather than long ones.

The Details: 6.3 x 9.5 x 3.5 inches | 14.4 ounces | Ballistic nylon

Other Toiletry Bags We Liked

The following three toiletry bags didn’t quite make our main list but still offer some handy features that some travelers might find useful.

Briggs & Riley Baseline Executive Essentials Kit : This fairly large toiletry bag can hold plenty — we had more than enough room for travel-size hair and skin care products for a weeklong trip. But the lack of interior organization makes it difficult to keep things in place. It might be better suited for carrying fewer larger products instead of numerous smaller ones.

Travel + Leisure / Ella Crosby

Thule Subterra 2 Toiletry Bag : This toiletry bag's standout feature is a removable plastic interior pouch, which you can use to keep liquids separate (a plus for going through airport security and to prevent leaks!). It also has various pockets to keep your things organized.

Travel + Leisure / Elizabeth Rhodes

Bagsmart Large Hanging Toiletry Bag : This hanging toiletry bag has four separate compartments to keep your belongings organized — and it has the capacity to hold many belongings, too. But it's not a particularly protective or durable bag with its softside material, which could be a problem for transporting certain products.

We tested 58 toiletry bags and cosmetics cases in our lab and during real-world tests to determine the best products to travel with. Testing started with an analysis of each bag when it was empty; we examined the materials, the construction, and the overall design.

We packed each bag full with toiletries, makeup, and essentials, taking notes of the case’s capacity and organizational design features, such as compartments, pockets, hanging straps, and hooks. If the toiletry bag was advertised as waterproof, we held the bag under running water to see if anything inside got wet and how quickly the bag dried. We packed the toiletry bags into different types of travel bags to see how portable they felt, including weekenders , carry-ons, and checked luggage.

After our initial lab tests, we sent the toiletry bags home with editors to test for an additional six months on their real-world travels to gather further insights, including how durable they are.

Tips for Buying a Toiletry Bag

Look at the design of the bag.

Some toiletry bags are voids — they have one cavernous space to fit all your items. But others are separated into compartments with pockets and pouches to keep your items in place. Depending on what you're storing in your toiletry bag, you might prefer more organizational tools than a single open space. Some toiletry bags have additional features like built-in mirrors or removable pouches. Also consider the material: more durable, water-resistant materials are ideal for toiletry bags, since they'll be getting quite a bit of use on the road.

Consider capacity and the items you pack

What do you plan on putting in a toiletry bag? If you're a minimalist who carries very few toiletries — say, just face wash and toothpaste — you might only need a small case. But if you have an extensive skincare routine — including sunscreen and after-sun lotion — and you travel with all your makeup, you'll need a bag with enough space for everything.

Think about portability

If you plan on taking your toiletry bag in your carry-on, you'll want it to be as compact and lightweight as possible to save room for everything else in your bag. And if you're packing liquids, gels, or aerosols, make sure your items’ sizes comply with the TSA's 3-1-1 rule . If you're checking your toiletry bag, though, you might have more flexibility with size and weight.

Since toiletry bags frequently come into contact with liquids — either from leaking products or from the bathroom counter — water-resistant or waterproof materials are best. Another factor to consider is durability. Toiletry bags are typically fairly heavily used when you travel, so it's best to look for tear-proof fabric that will hold up over time.

A TSA-approved toiletry bag is one that meets the TSA's requirements for the 3-1-1 rule regarding liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes packed in carry-ons. These products must be 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters or less, and they all must fit in " 1 quart size, clear, plastic, zip top bag ."

You can pack just about anything in a toiletry bag, from heatless hair curlers to body washes to makeup. Depending on what you plan on putting in your toiletry bag, you may want to look for ones with special pockets — many toiletry bags have designated spots for items like makeup brushes or palettes to keep them secure.

Best toiletry bags 2023: practical and stylish wash bags for travel

Going away? Keep your toiletries in a selection of these fantastic washbags

One of the best toiletry bags on a table, surrounded by a toothbrush, glasses, cactus and watering can

Every traveller needs a good toiletry bag. You may be the type that can get by on just a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste, but the accessories you need for more than a few days away quickly mount up. Shampoo and body wash is increasingly provided by hotels these days, but you still need to travel with your own deodorant, razor, shaving cream, moisturiser, creams, gels, medication, tablets… for some travellers, the list goes on and on.

So while you may aspire to travel with just a toothbrush and a credit card, the reality is very different. Cue the travel wash bag, a long-time travel staple.

However, they come in many different shapes and sizes. There are luxury-looking wash bags fashioned from leather, canvas bags designed for camping, and all kinds of styles in-between. There are clutches, products with integrated hanging hooks, and ultralight designs that are all about saving weight.

These toiletry bags must be paired with the best suitcase , best carry-on luggage , or best backpack .

How to choose the toiletry bag for you

Why you can trust T3 Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

You may not spend as much time choosing a wash bag as a wristwatch , but what you choose will say a lot about you.

You can pay for materials and style, of course, with leather (both faux and real Italian hide) in our lineup. Those materials are easy to clean and exude style, but they come at a high price.

The soft leather James Purdey & Sons Leather Wash Bag is a high roller at aroud £295, but it's very basic in design. Even the faux leather Ted Baker Cobbler Wash Bag is more intriguing, though not as impressive as the ultra-organised Aspinal of London Men's Hanging Washbag .

In the mid-rage sits the attractive Filson Canvas Wash Bag at around £120, with the rest of our roundup concentrating on more affordable and outdoorsy, unisex designs using man-made fabrics, such as the feature-packed Snugpak Luxury Wash Bag , and the compact Lifeventure Travel Wash Bag ,

For those who prefer to travel ultralight, check-out the Osprey Ultralight Washbag Zip , which also acts as a hanging wash bag, but includes a tear-off, see-through pouch for storing liquids in hand luggage, as does the unisex OneNine5 , which is fashioned from recycled plastic.

From business trips and plush hotels to camping and backpacking, there’s a travel wash bag here for you.

The 8 best toiletry bags you can buy

OneNine5 travel wash bag

1. OneNine5 travel wash bag

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

If you’re the kind of traveller that takes a lot of creams, lotions and potions, this generously-sized wash bag is for you. Designed by a London based start-up, OneNine5 has the Millennial crowd in its sights; it’s got a 100% recycled plastic lining, but also a magnetised clear liquids bag for getting through airport security when you’re travelling carry-on only.

Coming in three colours, the OneNine5 travel wash bag has seven separate compartments to maximise space, including a zipped area for must-not-lose items as well as a hanging hook and a separate toothbrush holder. It’s available in three unisex colours; blue, pink and grey.

Snugpak Luxury Wash Bag

2. Snugpak Luxury Wash Bag

Sometimes you don’t have to spend big to get your money’s worth. If you can live with the polyester outdoorsy look, Snugpak’s offering has all you need and more; as well as two main individually divided and zipped compartments, the Luxury Wash Bag has a useful wet storage compartment, a detachable mirror, and a stainless steel hanging hook to store it up and out of the way in bathrooms. That’s three features you don’t usually get from a washbag. It’s also got four elasticated sections for sundries.

James Purdey & Sons Leather Wash Bag

3. James Purdey & Sons Leather Wash Bag

If you want to travel in luxury, look no further than this beautiful leather wash bag. The clutch design may be reminiscent of a handbag, but elsewhere it's masculinity defined; where else would you find a 'signature oak bark tanning technique' applied to hide?

At 8x18x26cm it's roomy enough for most toiletries, while the nicely lined main area contains a small pouch for contact lenses. Elsewhere it's all about style, with excellent quality zips and an embossed designer emblem. It's beautiful, if a little basic, but does anyone need to pay this much for a washbag?

Filson Canvas Wash Bag

4. Filson Canvas Wash Bag

If you're after a more vegetarian retro look, consider canvas. It's light, durable and much more versatile than leather. Oh, and it's cheaper, too. Cut from canvas and lined with nylon for extra waterproofing, this simple toiletry bag from Filson is a one-compartment affair, though inside is an open side-pocket for easy division of kit.

A grab handle on one end is a nice touch, as is a high quality zip. Measuring 14x19x30cm, it's big enough to take some serious gear, but it folds down to nothing when not in use, which is handy when you're back at your bathroom base.

Osprey Ultralight Washbag Zip

5. Osprey Ultralight Washbag Zip

Take two wash bags into the bathroom? If you're quite the jet-setter who's just as likely to pop over to Europe for a business meeting – with hand luggage only – as you are to go long duration, long haul, you don't want to have to buy a different wash bag for every kind of trip.

This well-designed and incredibly lightweight 14x23x7cm option from outdoor specialist Osprey has three separate sections that can be unfurled when you get to your destination. Weighing just 12g, it's got a small coat hanger and plenty of pockets, a built-in mirror, and a transparent compartment that doubles as a rip-off toiletries pouch.

Ted Baker Cobbler Wash Bag

6. Ted Baker Cobbler Wash Bag

At first glimpse this looks like a solid leather trunk bag, but a clever compartment saves the day. Made from faux leather, with brass-look zips and with some attractive detailing, this 12.5x13x26cm toiletry bag has one big compartment ideal for storing the usual suspects like deodorant, shaving cream and a tube of toothpaste.

However, another compartment on its undercarriage contains a few mesh pockets and a host of elasticated straps ideal for securing shaving accessories (or even cables). It adds some much-needed functionality because despite the attractive look, the build quality here is actually pretty basic.

Aspinal of London Men's Hanging Washbag

7. Aspinal of London Men's Hanging Washbag

  • Aspinal of London Men's Hanging Washbag - £225

Are you the organised type? If you're the kind of man who likes to travel with everything you need at your fingertips, there are few better options than a hanging wash bag. When closed it looks like a regular wash bag, with a magnet keeping everything snug. There’s even a carry handle on rear.

However, unfurl it and you find three separate compartments, two of them zipped. There's even a mirror. Handmade in smooth calf leather, each pocket is lined with water resistant fabric. It's a joy to use, but the bizarre choice to have a loop rather than a hook makes it harder to find it a home.

Lifeventure Travel Wash Bag

8. Lifeventure Travel Wash Bag

If you have no need for leather and looks, you'll love this small unisex toiletry bag that looks like a packing cube. Available in blue, red and grey, the 22x18x8cm Lifeventure is all about practical design rather than style. It's made from ripstop nylon, and has two compartments one a mesh pocket and the other a more secure zip top security pocket.

Thankfully, the loop design also comes with a hook, and there's a zipped pocket to make tablets easily accessible without opening the whole bag. It's also got a mirror, though in practical terms it's mere novelty.

What should women pack in their toiletry bag for travel?

When you're packing to go away, there are a million and one things going through your mind. There are so many things you need to remember to pack, that you're bound to end up forgetting something. Do you always write a packing list? We've saved you a job when it comes to your toiletry bag. Here is our list of essentials we think you should pack while you're away from home:

• Toothbrush and whitening toothpaste – if you don't want to take your electric toothbrush, we'd recommend taking an eco-friendly bamboo toothbrush to use while you're away.

• Soap/body wash

• Shampoo and conditioner

• Deodorant

• Sun cream – a mineral sunscreen is ideal for more sensitive skin.

• Hair brush/comb

• Skincare (such as an eco-friendly moisturiser and cleanser)

• Make-up (think lightweight foundation for mature skin , waterproof mascara, plus anything else you may need if you want to get glammed up while you're on holiday)

What is the best toiletry bag for travel?

The most important thing to consider when purchasing a travel toiletry bag is whether it will fit all the products you want to take.

If the bathroom in your accommodation is on the smaller side, you won't want your toiletries to take up lots of space. So, you may invest in a set with multiple-sized bags or a toiletry bag with different layers and compartments.

For that reason, you might also think about buying a hanging toiletry bag to keep your essentials together without adding clutter to the bathroom.

If you need a hand picking the best toiletry bag, we've rounded up some of our favourites you can buy online.

Best hanging travel toiletry bag for women

Rrp: £ 29.99

Hotel bathrooms don't tend to have lots of space, but you won't need to worry about that with this hanging toiletry bag. You can simply pop it up on the back of the door for the complete convenience of having your toiletries all in one place. It folds up compactly so it won't take up loads of room in your suitcase either.

Review: I'm so pleased with this purchase. At first, I wasn't sure about purchasing the pink model, (not my usual choice) but the colour is really quite pleasing in an old fashioned way. This is a dusty pink. An old rose perhaps. With the black and gold zipper it has a distinctively Chanel look, and the feel is absolute luxury. It fits an amazing amount of stuff (I always travel with miniature bottles) and even with a few more items introduced, it takes up less room than my old one, which I'd always considered quite compactly designed. The quality feels really solid, the zips are strong, and the stitching is excellent. (I used to make a lot of clothes, so I'm quite critical about bad sewing.) After viewing quite a lot of toiletry bags, I decided on this one, (in spite of the colour, to be honest) because of the design. After using it, I'm really glad that I chose it. It's really well thought out. Highly recommended.

  • Spacious compartments
  • Hangs easily
  • Different colour choices
  • It can be difficult to fasten if filled

Recommended hanging toiletry bag for women

Rrp: £ 7.99

Another great hanging travel toiletry bag is this funky flamingo print one. It's got three layers and six compartments that are all different sizes and it's made from a durable, water-resistant fabric that is lined to stop any accidental spills and leaks.

Review: "I'm finally going away again and I needed a little bag for all my toiletries, this is perfect! I want to start by saying I love the product design, it looks really nice and bright. The quality is superb, it's made well and built to last. Perfect storage space if you're going on a short trip, not so sure if you're going for more than two weeks though. I love that it has a hook inside and the only issue I have is that it comes in a plastic bag, a waste of plastic. I think it's great value for money and I can't wait to take it everywhere I go."

  • Numerous pockets
  • 13 colour options
  • Hook is plastic, not metal so isn't as hardwearing

Best value travel toiletry bag

You get two bags for the price of one with this travel toiletry bag set. You can use the smaller bag to store your make-up separately from your main toiletries, giving you more room to take everything you need. In the main bag, there are three sections. A pouch section where you can pop taller items like your toothbrush and toothpaste and two zipped sections which are perfect for skin care, shower gel and suncream.

Review: "Really nice design. Lots of compartments to separate all your toiletries and jewellery. Great for use when travelling. Comes with a nice mini cosmetic purse perfect for popping a couple of small things in your handbag. Would definitely recommend it."

  • Cute floral print
  • Large capacity
  • Mini bag included
  • Zip can get stuck easily

Best travel toiletry bag for make up lovers

You can never take too much make-up with you on holiday, but if you're not sure where you're going to put it all, this is the travel toiletry bag for you. It's nice and deep so you can fit in plenty of your beauty must-haves. There's also an elasticated section for you to neatly store all your brushes. If that wasn't enough, there's an additional transparent layer where you can put those all-important skincare essentials.

Review: "It’s perfect. Fits so much! Used the lower part for Make-up and the top part for skincare. Easy to clean as well. Definitely recommend it."

  • Great for both large and small toiletries
  • Transparent compartment
  • Five different colours
  • Limited room for taller bottles

Recommend travel toiletry bag for women

We love this pretty blue leaf print design of this travel toiletry bag. It's just what you need to keep all of your essentials organised while you're away from home. It's got a flexible velcro divider so you can group all of your products into their separate categories, such as shower, hair, make-up, and skincare.

Review: "Loved this, keeps everything tight and safe when travelling. It's washable and seems fairly leakproof. You can fit plenty in it too. Brill for holidays and weekends away!"

  • 12 different pattern options
  • Lightweight
  • Water resistant
  • Dividers can be flimsy

Frequently asked questions on travel toiletry bag for women

Can toiletries go in hand luggage.

Are you travelling by plane? We're sure you're aware of the  government rules  for going through airport security, but if you need some refreshing, we're here to help.

The short answer is yes. Toiletries can go in hand luggage when you're flying. That said, any liquids must be under 100ml in volume to be cleared by security.

You may be tempted to take a half-empty bottle, but please don't. There are restrictions at UK airports that state your containers must hold no more than 100ml. Your toiletries must fit into a sealed, clear bag ready to be scanned.

You're also limited to just one plastic bag per person. If you're someone that takes a lot of toiletries on holiday, going hand luggage-only might not work for you.

Do toiletry bags need to be clear for flying?

Your whole toiletry bag doesn't need to be clear for flying if you don't want it to be. However, remember that liquids in your hand luggage will need to come out to be scanned. Even if you have a clear toiletry bag, some UK airport security require you to use the bags supplied.

What size toiletry bag is TSA approved?

If you are planning on travelling with toiletries in your hand luggage, your toiletry bag needs to meet Transport Security Administration criteria. A toiletry bag can measure no more than 7 x 5.5 x 1.5 inches to be TSA-approved.

By Jenny Elliott | Last updated Feb 15, 2024

Woman with a toiletry bag

As sure as night follows day, a shampoo bottle will somehow leak while sitting in a suitcase . But no worries – a good toiletry bag will save the day.

As well as keeping your clothes safe from unsightly spills, a toiletry bag can also make life easier. Nifty pockets and compartments ensure shower gels, sanitary products and plasters are all easy to find.

The trick is picking the right wash bag to suit your travel style and family size. Are you that mythical beast that can travel with hand luggage only ? Or do you need all your potions and lotions to make a trip away feel like a real holiday?

Whatever your budget, suitcase size or destination, you should be able find a toiletry bag to suit your packing needs in our roundup below which includes plenty of recommendations from the Mumsnet forums .

Here are the best toiletry bags to buy.

1. Best overall toiletry bag: Reisenthel Toiletry Bag XL

Price on writing: £20 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 28 x 25 x 10 cm | Material: Polyester

What we like

Sturdy and durable

Range of different patterns and colours to choose from

What we don't like

If you want to travel light, you may want to consider something smaller

What Mumsnet users say

"Fab and very big." Tried and tested by Mumsnetter BarchesterFlowers

Our verdict

This good quality toiletry bag is a firm favourite with Mumsnetters. It comes in different colours and designs and the compartments hold full-sized bottles as well as keeping smaller bits and bobs organised. There’s also a sturdy hook for hanging it up in bathrooms and a handy little mirror too.

It’s not the bag to choose if you have plans to travel light, but its generous size should save you packing a separate makeup bag.

2. Best budget toiletry bag: FIYUK Clear Tote Bag

Price on writing: £9 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 32.5 x 28.5 x 4.6 cm | Material: PVC

Budget-friendly price

Handy straps for easy transportation

Can't be used to take items through airport security

This transparent, wipe-clean toiletry bag is made from robust PVC and is a great option for the price. Its size means there shouldn’t be any problems fitting in full-sized shampoo bottles and toothbrushes. Hang it on the back of a door using the long handles or save some suitcase space, and double it up as a beach bag . It’s too big for carrying toiletries through airport security, but otherwise it’s a practical choice.

3. Best large toiletry bag: Liberty Large Mabelle Wash Bag

Price on writing: £48| Buy now from Liberty

Size: 29.5 x 19 x 7 cm | Material: Tana Lawn™ Cotton with a nylon lining

Classic Liberty print

Nice and roomy

It is on the pricey side

"Perhaps have a look at Liberty - I have one of their own label wash bags that has been very hard wearing (travel a lot for work)." Recommended by Mumsnetter piscesangel

If you are looking for a stylish, but hard-wearing, wash bag option, then you could do no better than this beautiful bag from Liberty of London.

The Liberty Large Mabelle Wash Bag has a roomy interior, so it can comfortably accommodate your makeup essentials, beauty tools and skincare products. An internal zip pocket will help to keep your personal or small items secure and safe. The gorgeous Mabelle print was created by Liberty Fabrics’ in-house team. It's the perfect companion if you like to travel in style.

4. Best compact roll-up toiletry bag: Osprey Ultralight Washbag Roll

Price on writing: £25 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 15.2 x 7.6 x 22.9 cm | Material: Nylon

Lightweight and doesn't take up much room in luggage

Limited space means it may not the best choice for a family holiday

Weighing less than 400g, what this toiletry bag lacks in style it makes up for in no-nonsense practicality. It can roll up small, has a sturdy hook for hanging and even has a small mirror.

The larger main compartment will keep travel-sized bottles safe. The mesh pockets are good for toothbrushes and other bits and pieces and although it’s too compact for a family holiday, it’s a great wash bag for a night away or a trip to the gym.

5. Best luxury toiletry bag: Stackers Blush Hanging Washbag

Price on writing: £59 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 26 x 14 x 27 cm | Material: Faux leather

Made from vegan-friendly material

Very spacious

This chic toiletry bag, made from blush pink vegan leather, lives up to Stackers’ reputation for clever, high-quality design. The main compartment holds full-sized bottles, and there are plenty of handy pockets too. The champagne-gold hanging hook and zips add a touch of elegance. The removable, clear wash bag is a brilliant little extra; it fits in the main bag but is also ideal for overnight trips and slipping into hand luggage.

6. Best toiletry bag for travel-sized toiletries: Elizabeth Scarlett Palm Tree Pouch

Price on writing: £32 | Buy now from Anthropologie

Size: 20 x 30cm |  Material: 100% cotton velvet

Vibrant design

A bit on the pricey side

“Elizabeth Scarlett do beautiful velvet ones.” Recommended by Mumsnet user bubblicious3

The velvety-smooth Elizabeth Scarlett Palm Tree Pouch is the perfect size for stashing your makeup and travel toiletries before setting off on your next big adventure.

Here at Mumsnet we love this hot pink bag, covered in carefully embroidered gold palm trees. But if palm trees aren't your (ahem) bag, then the pouch is available in a range of other vibrant colours and designs, including embroidered turtles, seahorses and suns. If this tropical-themed bag doesn't manage to get you in to the holiday spirit, then we're afraid nothing will.

7. Best clear toiletry bag for airport security: BlueSkye Airport Security Liquids Bag

Price on writing: £13 (for six) | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 22 x 21 cm | Material: PVC

Great for avoiding airport faffing

Not the prettiest toiletry bags around - these are all about practicality

These transparent toiletry bags come in packs of six and should ensure minimum faff at airport security. Designed to conform to Civil Aviation Authority guidelines, the bags are designed to fit 100ml travel bottles. They’re made from one sheet of good-quality PVC, so they’re stronger than cheap freezer bags and the fact they’re reusable adds to their eco-credentials. The loop handle is a convenient plus when you are juggling children, passports and multiple cases.

8. Best compact drawstring toiletry bag: The Flat Lay Co. Make Up Bag

Price on writing: £23 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 18 cm across when closed with a 51 cm diameter when opened | Material: Woven polyester

Great for those who like minimal faffing around when they pack

Good for stashing quite a lot of toiletries and makeup

Everything can get a little bit jumbled - you may want to look elsewhere if you like a little more order when packing

For packers who prefer the quick and simple approach, this drawstring toiletry bag is ideal. Lay it out flat, and it’s easy to see where everything is. Select what you need, then quickly scoop it all back up. There are two outer pockets, an inner pocket and a few elasticated holders for added organisation. When rolled out, it can also double as a handy cosmetics mat to protect any surfaces or linen from stray powder or lipstick smudges.

9. Best toiletry bag with compartments: OneNine5 Eco-Friendly Travel Wash Bag

Price on writing: £49 | Buy now from Amazon

Size: 18 x 23 x 7 cm | Material: PU Leather and 100% recycled polyester

Made from vegan and eco-friendly materials

Slimline design

A little on the pricey side

Not as spacious as other toiletry bags on our list

Keen on a helpful compartment? This smart, eco-conscious wash bag is too – the seven separate pockets are great for keeping everything organised. What’s more, the larger, transparent bag detaches and can be used for taking travel-sized toiletries through airport security.

The lining is made from recycled plastic; the outside is crafted from water-repellent, vegan leather. It isn’t as spacious as some other toiletry bags, but its slim design and hanging hook make it a practical, elegant option.

FIYUK Clear Tote Bag Amazon

Liberty Large Mabelle Wash Bag Liberty

How to choose the best toiletry bag

Start by thinking about the toiletries you want to fit into the bag. Are travel size bottles and a handful of essentials normally enough for you and your family? If so, opt for a compact wash bag that will save on suitcase space.

If you don’t want the faff of decanting shampoos and shower gels into smaller bottles, a more generous toiletry bag may be the answer. In which case, it might be a good idea to measure the bigger bottles in your bathroom cabinet to make sure they’ll fit.

Either way, a quality toiletry bag can be a good investment, so it might be worth spending a little more on something that will last for years.

What’s the best material for a toiletry bag?

Above all, a toiletry bag needs to contain any leakages. So water-resistant PVCs, nylons, polyesters and faux leathers all work well. Also, consider how easy the bag will be to clean. Choosing a reusable wash bag is a good choice for the environment; selecting a bag made from recycled, cruelty-free materials is even better.

What is the best toiletry bag to buy?

We love the chic Stacker's hanging toiletry bag and the eco-friendly option from OneNine5 . However, in terms of quality for the money, the Reisenthel Toiletry Bag XL gets our vote. Its generous size and hanging hook makes it a practical choice for families.

How we chose our recommendations

We’ve thoroughly researched the best toiletry bags you can buy this season including tried-and-tested experiences from a wide range of honest, trusted sources. Here’s how we narrowed it down to our top picks.

Mumsnet community

When it comes to stylish and practical toiletry bags, Mumsnetters know a trusty carrier when they see (and use) one.

We first assessed all the recommendations from the  Mumsnet community , getting feedback on the best toiletry bags they have personally used, reviewed and rated, including their favourite models, and must-have additional features. We also considered the reasons why Mumsnetters would avoid certain toiletry bags.

Expert opinions

We know that choosing the right toiletry bag takes a lot of thought and consideration, so we made sure our recommendations were well received within the bags and luggage industry, rated or recommended by travel experts and industry leaders.

Trusted consumer reviews

Finally, we scrutinised honest customer reviews on retailer sites such as Amazon and John Lewis to get wider consumer opinions on the products on our shortlist. Through this research, we were able to weigh up the best toiletry bags for a variety of needs and gain a greater understanding of the pros and cons of each.

Some travel bags are smaller, with a simple interior, and others are larger with more pockets. What you decide to invest in comes down to how long you'll be traveling for and whether or not you like to travel light or heavy. Regardless of your preferences, just know that there are plenty of options out there for you. In fact, Women's Health editors tested and rounded up seven of their favorite picks to help you decide on the best one for you. Before you shop though, here are a few things to keep in mind.

What to consider

The goal is to find something that will fit all your personal care items without taking up a ton of space, being mindful that TSA rules will also limit the sizes of these products. "TSA’s 3-1-1 rule states that all liquids must be in containers that are 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters or less and fit inside one clear, quart-sized, resealable bag," says travel expert and blogger at The Smart Travel Guide Peggy Carlaw. "The trick to packing a toiletry bag is decanting your own products into small containers or purchasing travel-sized containers." This hack will save you space while lowering your bag weight. Once you do this, choose a bag that's big enough to hold the amount of containers and makeup you're traveling with.

Finding a bag that fits within your budget is the priority. That said, certain materials are more travel-friendly than others. Carlaw recommends a bag made from either nylon or polyester. "These are long-lasting, lightweight, water-resistant, and easy to clean," she says. "Cotton and some other fabrics are not waterproof, hard to keep clean, and not sturdy enough to protect their contents," she adds.

Water-resistance

While this feature is optional, having a water-resistant bag will ensure that everything else in your suitcase will stay dry if any of your toiletries spill out or leak during travel. At the same time, if your luggage gets wet or clothes get damp, all the items in your toiletry bag (like powders, medications, and electronics) will stay dry. This is especially helpful if you're traveling somewhere where the humidity is high, Carlaw says.

How 'Women's Health' selected

For the past year, Women’s Health editors, including associate health and wellness editor Tianna Soto and lifestyle commerce editor Jasmine Gomez , tested the bestselling, most popular, and top-rated travel toiletry bags. Our team consulted one travel expert and evaluated bags based on size, fabric material, ease of use, and more to narrow down the seven best travel toiletry bags for a wide range of needs and preferences.

Below, check out the seven best travel toiletry bags, tested by Women's Health editors.

After testing several travel toiletry bags over the past few weeks, our best overall pick is this hanging toiletry bag from Pavilia. For starters, it hits all the callouts that our expert recommends—clear plastic pockets, a water-resistant shell, and polyester material.

The hook at the top makes it easy to see and access your items without having to take them all out, or having to dig through each pocket. Editors also like that this bag has a budget-friendly price of $24, which is a total steal compared to some of the more pricier options on this list.

Women's Health health editor Tianna Soto appreciates that this bag comes with eight pockets that fit all of her self-care products. For her, it makes organizing a breeze, and it folds up without taking up too much space in her luggage. However, she notes that if you over-pack it too often, there's a chance that the zipper can get stuck. Additionally, it might not be the best choice if you value your privacy while traveling with company. "If you’re sharing a hotel room with someone and don’t want everyone to see what you have in there, you may not love the clear pockets," she says.

Read more: Best Travel Coffee Mugs

If you swear by all things Lululemon, you'll be thrilled to know they have a toiletry bag that's perfect for your next trip. It comes with three main pockets that can be easily folded up. Unlike some other options on this list, this bag is closed using a security buckle, ensuring that your belongings won't fall out during travel.

WH lifestyle and commerce editor Jasmine Gomez is a big fan of this bag because of its waterproof-material and mesh pocket, which she says makes room for some items that need more breathability (think: makeup sponges and toothbrushes).

She also likes that it provides easy access to her products. "I love that it rolls out vertically with a hook at the top, making it easy to access what I need without having to dig through an entire bag," she says. One thing to keep in mind is that there isn't an added layer of protection for whatever is inside, aside from the pockets. So keeping this in your backpack or in a hardshell suitcase might be best.

When it comes to durability, this toiletry bag from Fjallraven is our top pick, especially if you're a frequent flyer. We like that the fabric feels sturdy, and it's on the thicker side, so it can easily stand up against frequent use or bumpy trips. The dark color makes any dirt or marks less noticeable, too. It comes with two spacious compartments that can fit anything from makeup to skincare or haircare. Because the pockets inside aren't clear like some of the other bags on this list, you might have to dig around in different sections to find what you're looking for, though.

Still, this option is well worth your dime, according to WH associate news editor Charlotte Walsh. "I typically have to pack two separate bags—one for my makeup and the other for shower products—but with this, I can fit it all in one!" she says. She also appreciates the waxed fabric liner inside, which serves as a barrier in case anything spills.

Victoria's Secret Travel Toiletry Bag

Travel Toiletry Bag

A personal favorite of WH beauty editors, this toiletry bag from Victoria's Secret has deep pockets that are perfect for those who prefer the perks of a roll-up bag with the structure of something more durable. It comes with two main compartments and one smaller one that sits closest to the hanging hook. While this bag isn't water-resistant, we appreciate that the clear pockets make it easy to find your belongings.

"It's easy to see everything that's in the bag without having to spread everything out on the sink and make a mess," says WH senior beauty editor Danielle Jackson. She adds that this bag eliminates the need to bring two toiletry bags with her since the pockets are extra spacious.

Mark & Graham Clear Coated Cosmetic Train Case

Clear Coated Cosmetic Train Case

Feel like a splurge? You will adore this customizable toiletry bag from Mark & Graham. While this is the most expensive option on our round up, the variety of prints to choose from, in addition to its durability and deep double pockets, make it worth every penny.

Its rectangular shape allows for a smooth packing process, as it can easily fit into the corner of a small suitcase or duffel. It also has a handle on top that provides "easy access when you're digging around in your bag after a late-night or early-morning arrival," says WH features editor Currie Engel. "[The bag] makes me feel like an incredibly put-together person even on my most hectic and chaotic trips." If you're not shopping for yourself, this bag also makes for a great gift for your jet-setting bestie or family member.

Herschel Milan Toiletry Bag

Milan Toiletry Bag

The most stylish option on this list, this toiletry bag from Herschel is great for quick weekend getaways. It's on the smaller side and made from vegan leather. The bag comes with an expandable internal and rear storage sleeve, and it's available in six colors and two sizes. It's worth noting that while this bag is fashion-forward, it doesn't have clear pockets and isn't big enough to guarantee that all your travel must-haves can be stored away.

Ultimately, it will securely store whatever you do travel with, though. WH executive digital director Amanda Woerner, who has been using hers for years, is a fan of this bag for its overall quality. "Herschel toiletry bags hold a ton of makeup and skincare products, and despite the fact that various tinted moisturizers, face washes, and who knows what else, have spilled inside there for years, it's still in great shape," she says.

Beis The Cosmetic Pouch Set

The Cosmetic Pouch Set

Some people prefer to have one bag, while others don't mind two. Whether it be for organizational purposes or for having two bags to use individually, you can't go wrong with this matching set from Beis. These are not water-resistant nor do they have clear pockets, but editors like that they're compact enough to fit in small suitcases, and that you're essentially getting two bags for the price of one. Plus, they're a sleek and stylish option for travel.

"I love the matching neutral color, and the bigger size means that I can still squeeze in some of my full-size products," says Walsh. She notes that one downside to the rounded shape of the bags is that you lose some of the extra space that you may get from a square pouch.

rugged toiletry bag

Fat Felt Dopp Kit

  • Feature Highlights > Excellent Craftmanship
  • > Versatile

A toiletry kit acts as a portable bathroom cabinet for your essential toiletries – shampoo, soap, deodorant, dental care, etc.

In many cases, these are just the basics, and you may also need to carry and organize your sunscreen, repellent, medication, and more.

We’ve likely all been there: the moment after you realize your travel toiletries have exploded in your suitcase… Well, a toiletry kit is your solution. A travel toiletry bag will help you organize all of your liquids and minimize exploding suitcase scenarios.

Organization is absolutely essential when you are living out of a suitcase. From compact to large toiletry bags to hanging travel bags, you’ll soon find the one that works best for you.

Not all toiletry bags are considered equal. We’ve done the work for you by compiling our favorite travel toiletry bags for this list, but there are different bags for different travel styles and uses. Consider the following before you buy one.

Materials and Durability

Your travel bathroom bag should be the right balance between durable and flexible. You want it to be able to fold into your backpack or suitcase while still withstanding any travel abuse. If you’re looking for the best camping toiletry bag for example, you’ll want something super rugged.

Many travel kits are made from nylon and synthetic materials, and some from leather. I suggest looking for a toiletry bag with water-resistant or waterproof materials. Also, look at the sturdiness of zippers and internal/external pockets. You should always ask yourself, how long will this bag last? The same is true for travel bags , sleeping bags , and beyond!

We checked all of these bags’ materials, the quality of the seams, and zippers too. Not all of the zippers were up to perfect standards – all reviews have noted if that is the case – but they were either more affordable or lightweight because of it.

Size and Capacity

Size is a matter of preference, but I suggest traveling as compact as possible. You should also keep your travel toiletries to a minimum; they can be heavy and take up a lot of space.

That said, you want a bag that can carry all that you need: travel-sized toiletries, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a razor, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, feminine hygiene products, condoms, cotton swabs, a hairbrush, hairpins and ties, sunscreen, etc. It definitely adds up quick! Try looking for a lightweight toiletry bag if you want to keep weight to a minimum.

Pockets and Organization

Getting a toiletry bag with organizational dividers and internal pockets will help you keep your things organized. Generally though, the more bells and whistles, the more expensive the bag. If you don’t need anything super high tech, then there is no need to fork out the extra money, but having at least a couple of pockets will make your life easier.

Ability to Hang

This is the main feature I would look for in a toiletry bag. Hanging toiletry bags are especially useful in hostels and pubic bathrooms, where you can keep your products hung neatly from your bunk bed or shower.

Easy to Clean

Since you are storing liquids, the occasional spill or leak is inevitable. You want a toiletry bag that can be easily wiped down or washed.

Below are my top picks for toiletry bags. Each one has a short review that explains its pros, cons, and best features.

travel wash bags for womens uk

REI is one of America’s biggest and most-loved outdoor gear retailers.

Now, for just $30, get a lifetime membership that entitles you to 10% OFF on most items, access to their trade-in scheme and discount rentals .

travel wash bags for womens uk

Lets’ get the bad news out of the way, this bag not available in Europe so if you are reading this in Europe, scroll on.

Not all toiletry bags were created equal. This clean and durable offering from Nomatic sets the high standard, being made from a water and stain resistant fibre which gives it years of extra life and usability when compared to inferior products.

The bag is beautifully compartmentalised so there is a place for everything and you can keep your paracetamol separate for your shampoo. The external toothbrush pocket is also a great innovation which allows quick access and also keeps it separate meaning it won’t drip onto everything else when wet.

You can easily find toiletry bags on Amazon for a fraction of the price of this but believe me, if you buy cheap you buy twice (or more). We wholly recommend investing in the Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2.0 which will last you for and miles years of travel.

  • Water and stain resistant
  • Lovely compartments
  • The toothbrush pocket is a huge win
  • Not available in Europe
  • Not exactly cheap
  • Doesn’t roll up

Is the Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2.00 For Me?

There isn’t much wrong with this bag, to be honest. The only drawbacks are that it’s perhaps not as stylish as the RER one (below) and of course, if you are reading this in Europe no the Nomatic is not for you!

Our team really loved this toiletry bag and feel it offers pretty much everything you could want from this kind of gear and more. They loved the different sized pockets on each side of the bag and how well it kept their gear organised and separated when needed. The addition of the water-resistant zippers and material also was a standout feature for keeping their wet stuff away from the rest of their gear.

REI Co-op Shower Roll

travel wash bags for womens uk

REI has been coming out with awesome products over the last few years, often at a lower cost than many of the famous brands they carry in-store. If you are just looking for an overall great travel toiletry bag, then their Shower Roll is an EXCELLENT choice!

This toiletry kit has a large mesh pocket and small stash pocket to organize your toiletries as well as a removable pocket at the bottom with a clear window. Having a detachable clear pouch is perfect for TSA checks or any of those moments where you don’t want to take your entire toiletry kit into the bathroom.

The webbing strap that wraps around the bag doubles as a hanging strap too. I am also a fan of the detachable mirror as were the rest of the team. They loved that the bag had a simple design that could easily just be rolled out for easy access to their gear whilst being pretty compact when needed. They also loved all the different pockets and sections each designed to carry different bits of gear which kept everything easily organised.

  • Made of light, durable ripstop nylon
  • Detachable clear pouch
  • Detachable mirror
  • Comes in both small and large sizes
  • Not cheap, though not overly expensive
  • Marked as small, but not that small

Is the REI CO-OP Shower Roll for me?

Overall, this is a smartly designed and functional product that helps you organize your items. We give REI an A for material quality, sturdiness, and convenience and yet simplicity.

TropicFeel Hanging Toiletry Bag.

The Tropicfeel FidLock Toiletry bag is designed to attach to the front of their awesome, pioneering Shell Backpack saving space inside the pack.

However, if you don’t have the Shell Backpack then the FidLock still works as a standalone toiletry bag which will of course fit inside any backpack you want to chuck it into. And a perfectly worthy toiletry bag it is too, with dimensions coming in at 16cm x 21cm x5.2cm it is designed to be the optimal size for your toiletries. It offers Easy open access with a double zipper. Includes a mesh zippered top compartment and open mesh compartment.

It’s both water and leak proof and the hanging hook feels pretty strong and sturdy to us.

  • Perfect size
  • Ideal for using with the Shell backpack
  • Very well made
  • Not big enough for sum
  • Not as durable as some

Kodiak Leather Toiletry Bag

Kodiak Toiletry Bag

In case you need a toiletry bag that is a little bit special, then go for this handsome leather toiletry bag by Kodiak. The single biggest problem you face with most toiletry bags is that after a while, the daily exposure to shower steam, water splashes and stray toothpaste splodges take their toll and wear the bag to bits. Not with this one though, its made from robust, single grade water proof leather which will last pretty much forever.

Most toiletry bags on this list are functional but this one, is seriously stylish and rather masculine. Its a very simply design, using 1 main compartment with one zip pocket on interior side wall made from heavy duty nylon liner.

Its available in both walnut brown and light brown and makes a great gift to yourself.

The team loved this for those wanting something a bit fancier and higher-end than your standard bag. They felt it was especially useful for people who might need to carry their kit in a professional setting. They also loved the feel of the material and how durable it was, especially as it ages.

  • Made of quality leather that will last forever
  • Simple design
  • A thing of beauty
  • Does not hang

best wash bag peak design

This is one of my favorite travel toiletry bags due to its organization and water-resistant material and also the fact it comes from one of my favourite tra vel brands, Peak Design .

It has a ton of pockets and thoughtfully designed dividers. The main internal compartment is divided into two, and it’s big enough to hold a 12-ounce bottle or electric razor.

There is a magnetically-closed toothbrush pocket in the middle of the bag, so your toothbrush doesn’t have to mingle with your other liquids. On the outside, there’s a razor pocket where I keep my blade, tweezers, and other small tools.

I also like this Dopp kit because it’s made out of tough, recycled 200-denier nylon. It’s light, flexible, and durable. The main drawback is that this bag does NOT hang, however.

The internal mesh pockets are coated in silicone, so they are easier to wipe clean than traditional mesh pockets. As a bonus, all pockets turn inside out for cleaning.

While not specifically a ladies toiletry bag, it is one of the most thoughtfully designed bags in terms of organization, so it works well for make-up and other items.

Our team really loved how well thought out the organisational features of this bag were and especially loved how easy it was to separate different items from each other whilst keeping them all accessible. They felt it also offered an impressive amount of storage for such a compact bag and on top of that they felt the outer material and burly zip were great for long-term use.

Check out our full review of  Peak Design’s travel backpack , which this wash bag was designed to accompany!

  • Made of light, durable, water-resistant material
  • Great for organization
  • Thoughtful design

Is the Peak Design Wash Bag for me?

Get this if you want a water-resistant toiletry case with lots of pockets and thoughtful ways to organize your things. It doesn’t hang, so buy this if you don’t usually need or want to hang your bag.

Generation Nomad Backpacker Toilet Kit Bag

tbbteam-gear-toiletry-generation-nomad

Generation Nomad may have custom-designed the ideal toiletry bag for backpack travellers! Unlike typical travel dopp bags, this new to market toiletry bag is tailored for those who don’t carry bulky bathroom appliances like electric shavers and hair dryers.

Coming in at $35 its amongst the cheapest on this list and while yes you could find at Wallmart or on Amazon for $20 I strongly advise against this and must insist that this is THE entry level bag.

In terms of criticisms, its not going to be big enough for every one, isn’t made the water and splash proof material like others and doesn’t have the same high spec feel as pricier options but thats the point innit?

  • Built for light packers
  • 3 useful sections
  • Bargain price
  • Too small for some
  • Cheaper materials than others

Gravel Explorer PLUS Toiletry Bag

The Explorer PLUS from Gravel is a toiletry bag with a difference. Made from high quality, waterproof, washable nylon and coming with a lifetime guarantee, once you invest in the Gravel Explorer PLUS you may never need to buy another toiletry bag again.

The Explorer PLUS is designed forensically well and internally has 8 different pockets so everything has its place from razors to, shampoo to condoms. Perhaps best of all, as its pocket is sealed and water proof you don’t need to worry too much about those unwelcome mid-air shaving foam explosions ruining the whole bag.

Finally, this highly organised, wipeable and washable travel toiletry bag also comes with an adjustable strap so you can hang it up wherever you go. Oh, and it even comes with a couple of re-usable, travel sized plastic bottles for putting your liquids into PLUS a bamboo toothbrush!!!

  • High quality materials
  • Shampoo spill proof
  • Ace Organization
  • Too organised for some
  • Quite heavy

travel wash bags for womens uk

The Portage Toiletry kit is a great choice if you tend to pack a lot of bottles. It sits flat and has a large space in the center section for bottles, with mesh pockets to hold your travel toiletries in place.

The bag opens in a U shape and has a few elastic bands to store your razor and make-up brushes. Zippers and zipper pull work well. Has a removable hanger hook, which is very useful.

The Portage toiletry kit comes in 3 different sizes too. Because this is a large toiletry bag, it’s more appropriate road trips versus flying, when you have to be cognizant of travel-sized toiletries.

Our team loved that there was an option out there for those of them who needed to bring bigger items like specific shampoos or lotions. The fact that the bag also facilitates being stood upright was also a massive bonus alongside the zip that allows the bag to be fully opened up from the front.

  • U Shape Opening
  • Organization
  • Not good for air travel
  • Elastic top mesh pockets are low

Is the EBAGS Portage Toiletry Bag for me?

The interior has plenty of room and has a place for just about all of your toiletries. This is a great bag if you are traveling with a lot of cosmetics or carrying things for your family, but not for air travel.

best toiletry bag for men

This (synthetic) leather, the vintage-styled bag is perfect for storing your travel toiletries! The main compartment works well for shaving accessories and basic bathroom supplies.

The bottom section reveals two mesh compartments for your smaller things and has a waterproof bottom to keep your things protected.

Overall, it’s a nice and stylish bag that’s quite functional as well. It’s not genuine leather, so keep this in mind.

Our team loved the stylish and minimalist exterior of this bag which inside hides a surprising amount of organisational features. In particular, they found the bottom zippered section actually holds a lot more than they first imagined.

  • Nice vintage design
  • Good organization
  • Zippers are not great
  • Synthetic leather

Is the Vetelli Leather Toiletry Bag for me?

The interior has plenty of room, with one large clear vinyl pocket with a zipper at the top, and a place for just about all of your travel toiletries – from make-up brushes to toothpaste. This is a great bag if you are traveling with a lot of cosmetics or carrying things for your family.

Sea To Summit Toiletry Bag

When it comes to lightweight backpacking gear, no one can beat Sea to Summit. They make the lightest sleeping pads, tents, and beyond!

This toiletry pouch is no different. If you are looking for the lightest hanging travel toiletry bag and travel organizer on the market, then this is the bag for you! It’s crafted with strong and water-resistant Ultra-Sil fabric.

It includes multiple, thoughtfully placed mesh pockets and durable zippers to open and close the bag. To keep the weight down, they’ve kept this bag simple yet functional. Oh, and it even has a mirror built in!!

I bloody love this lightweight toiletry kit that and it has become my go to. It has a number of different pockets and sections which once hung up are in super useful positions for easy access. It still feels super strong considering how lightweight the material it’s made from is.

  • Super lightweight
  • Plenty of pockets
  • Has a hanger
  • Zipper catches often
  • Doesn’t stand alone well

Is the Sea to Summit Lightweight Toiletry Bag for me?

The Sea to Summit small Travelling Light Hanging Toiletry Bag has multiple internal pockets for personalized organizing. The hanging design is extremely convenient to use too. Overall, it’s a good size with plenty of features; most of all, it’s the lightest toiletry bag you’ll find!

rugged toiletry bag

Not only is this a rugged and durable kit, but it’s also a great travel kit for men (though as a girl I’m also a fan!). This bad boy is bomber built to handle abrasions with a hardy leather handle and heavy-duty waxed canvas, making it a great camping toiletry bag.

They also use 100% natural wool for their felt (no chemicals!) While this is a travel toiletry kit, it’s hardy enough to use for tools, bike repair tools, or an artist field bag. It’s a versatile bag!

  • Excellent Craftmanship and style
  • Doesn’t’ hang
  • Heavier than other bags on this list

Is the Fat Felt Dopp Kit for me?

The quality of this Dopp Kit is amazing. A high-quality canvas, durable and snag-proof design, a hardy zipper, and more will keep your travel toiletries protected!

Our team felt this was their best toiletry bag for camping due to the rugged nature of the materials and construction of the bag. The inside does feature a small zippered pocket but the team kinda loved the simplicity of this burly bag where you just throw in your essentials and off you go!

travel wash bags for womens uk

Now, you  could spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.

So give the adventurer in your life the gift of convenience: buy them an REI Co-op gift card!  REI is The Broke Backpacker’s retailer of choice for ALL things outdoors, and an REI gift card is the perfect present you can buy from them. And then you won’t have to keep the receipt. 😉

There is no perfect or exact science when it comes to testing out travel and outdoor gear. That said, the team here at The Broke Backpacker do have a LOT of experience so we’ve gotten pretty good when it comes to judging gear.

Whenever we test a piece of gear, at least one team member takes it out for a spin to put it through its paces. We firstly see how well it fulfils its primary purpose, so when it came to a backpacking toiletry bag, that was things like how compact and light it was, how much it held and what additional features it had. We also were sure to test out how well-made each piece of gear was as well as how packable.

Finally, we also take into account how item costs – so when it came to expensive items, if they performed averagely they lost points, whereas budget items may be given more leeway and minor failures treated more less harshly.

Still have some questions? No problem! We’ve listed and answered the most commonly asked questions below. Here’s what people usually want to know:

The best travel wash bags to pack on your next trip

Image may contain Adult Person Box Baggage Accessories Bag Handbag and Baby

All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.

As a team that's constantly travelling around the world, our editors have strong opinions when it comes to packing. A quality suitcase is a must, packing cubes are the secret key to travelling hand luggage only, and an organised wash bag is an absolute essential. The tricky part is pretty much every accessories brand, hotel and even airline has a wash bag now. Much like the mass of branded tote bags out there, the average bag tends to be a printed canvas zip-up pouch that can look nice but isn't that practical when it comes to travelling.

In our experience, the best way to choose the right travel wash bag depends on the kind of trip you're set to take.

For short trips: I love the ease of a clear case for stashing all of your essentials. Not only is it easy to find everything, but if you're travelling with only carry on luggage , a clear case avoids the need to unpack and repack your items into one of those plastic sleeves when going through security at the airport.

For long trips: Whether you're in one place for a long time or travelling around multiple destinations, hanging wash bags offer the feel of unpacking without having to actually unpack all of your products.

For beauty fans: Regardless of the length of your trip, if you're not one for travelling light consider investing in a cosmetic case, which are larger than your average wash bag and full of compartments and pouches to keep everything organised.

The best clear wash bags

travel wash bags for womens uk

Why we like it: If you’re travelling for more than a couple of days, I use the  Space NK Large Travel Bags  or  Medium Travel Bags . They are brilliant for organising your wares into categories, and because they’re clear, it’s easy to find things fast. Anita Bhagwandas

Image may contain: Accessories, Bag, and Handbag

Why we like it: This svelte wash bag has all the hallmarks of an Anya Hindmarch piece. Much like the brand’s clever in-flight bag, it’s been crafted to house all your essentials just so, with smart embossed labels for each compartment. There’s a roomy monogrammed nylon section, and a clear one for easy access to most-used products. Gold finishes and smart monogramming makes this an effortlessly chic buy that’ll work comfortably for trips of up to two-weeks in length.

travel wash bags for womens uk

Classic wash bags

Image may contain: Accessories, Bag, Handbag, and Purse

Why we like it: This is one of the roomier wash bags we rate, so it should be all you need to keep your personal care items safe throughout trips of up to two weeks. There are separate compartments for your makeup and skincare, along with additional pockets for brushes. Choose from four colours, or there’s also a clear version. At under £20, it’s a steal – and it would make a great gift for a frequent traveller.

Why we like it: Because of the pockets. This sleek, unobtrusive wash bag packs in six side pockets, a separate hidden compartment and two main sections for bulkier products, making it as easy as can be to organise all your products abroad. A handle makes it easy to tote from suitcase to bathroom, and the PVC outer can be easily refreshed with a quick wipe down if needed.

For long trips: hanging wash bags

Image may contain: Accessories, Bag, and Handbag

Why we like it: I fit a week’s worth of makeup and skincare with room to spare in this Mary Poppins-esque washbag on a recent trip – and the shape fits snugly into a corner of your case. I like that it opens out flat, banishing the need to rummage, and there are two interior pockets for hair ties and little bits and bobs. Good to know? I accidentally spilled something inside the bag and was nervous to put it through the washing machine, but it came out good-as-new – I appreciate this, given it’s on the pricier side. Charley Ward

Why we like it: After hours of research, Bagsmart Toiletry Travel Bag With Hook is the ultimate long-haul travel bag. It may look like any other wash bag, but it is the smallest details that make this a winner. The design ensures that it packs flat, even when it’s stuffed full, there are compartments for everything you’d ever need, and it has a hanger to save valuable space in the bathroom. It’s perfect. Anita Bhagwandas

Why we like it: I recently took this on a two week trip where I stayed at three different hotels. I was travelling with my family and this made storing and organising all of our bathroom items a breeze. I particularly loved the bottom compartment which can be completely detached and has a sheer top so you can store all of your in-flight essentials and take it through security and onto the flight. Very clever. Lauren Burvill

For beauty fans: vanity cases

Image may contain: Accessories, Bag, Handbag, Baggage, and Suitcase

Why we like it: Fans of Steamline’s vintage luggage pieces can complete their set with the brand’s sweet little vanity case. It’s on the pricier side, but what other wash bag doubles up as a handbag? Inside there’s a roomy main compartment for all your bits and pieces, along with a mesh bag to keep jewellery and hair ties easily to hand. This case can be attached to your suitcase with the passthrough band too – good for if you’re using it as an underseat cabin bag.

Why we like it: Firstly, the colour – when it comes to brightly coloured luggage Beis is the best in the business. Inside there's plenty of storage and pockets including a very clever removable makeup brush holder with hidden magnets – a genius hack to avoid getting your brushes dirty or damaged. My favourite part though is the slip pocket with a removable mirror – ideal for when the lighting in your hotel bathroom isn't the best. Lauren Burvill

Why we like it: For a truly luxe option, this Smythson case is crafted in their signature Panama cross-grain leather and comes in three shades – black, pale blue and beige. Inside, there are two main zip-up compartments, as well as additional storage pockets, including ruched pockets and elastic straps to keep everything neatly in place. Lauren Burvill

How to choose the best travel bag for women

What types of travel bags are there .

Virtually any bag can constitute a travel-worthy one, but the size, shape and overall style of bag you opt for will depend on the type of trip you’re taking. A travel bag that conforms to airline cabin requirements is the most beneficial option for a city break or short international trip, so all the bags included in this roundup are carry-on friendly.

A wheeled suitcase with either a hard or soft shell will be a common choice for city breaks or a week away, since it’s easy to manoeuvre through airports and along flat surfaces.

Backpacks are a versatile option for more adventurous travels, spreading the weight evenly across your back while keeping your hands free.

Crossbody bags again allow for your hands to remain free, and are great for keeping your belongings secure in crowded places. Sling bags can also easily make the transition from day to night, eliminating the need for packing a few different bags.

Duffel-style bags can be carried on the shoulder or via handles, and their cylindrical shape makes them a good choice for stuffing beneath seats on trains and planes.

Tote bags offer a generous capacity and are usually structureless, meaning they can be easily compressed when they’re empty or half-full.

What features should I look for in a travel bag for women?

For travelling, you want a bag that delivers security, accessibility and pockets – lots of pockets! Pay particular attention to the following:

Material – Your main options here are soft, hard and waterproof. While most bags aren’t able to be fully submerged in water, a bag made of a water-resistant material will prove handy for inclement weather and will be durable, too. This will also be the best choice if you plan to carry tech and electronics. Canvas and cotton are lightweight and flexible but are also more absorbent, while leather is sturdiest but will be heavier when the bag is empty.

Security – There are a variety of closures available: zippers, buckles, magnets or popper fasteners . Regardless of type, you want a bag that can be closed securely (even when it’s full to capacity) while also proving tricky for sticky fingers to burrow their way in.

Pockets – Separate compartments are super handy for keeping items organised: a padded section for your laptop, an internal zip pocket for any valuables (we’re thinking phone, wallet and passport, for example), side pockets for water bottles, and an easy-access outer pocket for those items you need to keep to hand.

Handles or straps – A variety of handles will mean you can switch carrying styles, which will bring relief when one part of your body gets tired. It’s important to check whether carry straps are made from a durable material, if they’re padded and if they’re comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

How we test travel bags for women

At Expert Reviews, we know how important hands-on testing is when recommending products. We’ve put these bags through the wringer, checking the seams and closures for their strength and durability, then assessing the ease and security of access.

We fill each bag to its capacity with an array of clothes, shoes and electronics, and test the resulting weight and manoeuvrability, including how comfortable the bag is to carry. Finally, we use each bag for outings of various lengths to determine how well it performs overall in real-life settings.

The best travel bags for women to buy in 2023

1. ethnotek premji pack 20: best travel backpack for daily use.

Price when reviewed: £87 | Check price at Ethnotek

travel wash bags for womens uk

The Ethnotek Premji is a slimline, lightweight backpack that offers decent capacity thanks to its myriad of zips, clips and straps. We’ve used our Premji Pack as our favourite catch-all backpack for years, and aside from a little compression of the shoulder strap’s padding, there’s no noticeable wear or tear at all to the bag’s heavy-duty ballistic nylon material.

You’ll find a padded laptop pocket inside the main section, while the front panel unzips to reveal different-sized pockets for notebooks, pens and all manner of flat objects. There’s an elasticated water bottle pocket on one side and a slip pocket on the other for quick-access items. Useful snap-lock double-sided straps let you load up either side of the bag with yoga mats, scrunched up jackets, camera tripods or any other bulky items, too.

In addition, the beautiful designs on offer are a result of Ethnotek’s partnerships with local artisan communities from Vietnam, India, Guatemala, Ghana and Bali, who design each of the patterned textiles that make the bags unique. The Raja Pack (£219) even allows for interchangeable front panels, enabling you to switch out the design in a flash.

Key spec – Dimensions: 28 x 48 x 14cm ; Capacity: 20l; Pockets : 9; Colourways : 20+; Material: 90% recycled PET, 10% cotton

2. Florrie & Bird Leather Sling Bag: Best sling bag for travel

best travel bag for women - Florrie and Bird Tan Leather Sling

Sling bags are a perfect option for festivals, dog walks, plane travel or even an evening out – but they need to be comfortable, lightweight and spacious enough to hold the essentials. The Florrie & Bird sling bag is a lovely little option that wins extra points for its versatility, since its design means it can be worn over the shoulder, as a crossbody or even around the waist as a bumbag.

At first glance, the compact design doesn’t appear to offer much space inside. Nevertheless, we still managed to fit in a phone, slim wallet and a few extras such as keys, earbuds and gum without issue. An internal zip pocket is useful, the gold hardware on the outer zip eye-catching, and the bag itself is made from gorgeously butter-soft leather that sits comfortably against your side or hip, or under your armpit.

Arriving with a thin leather strap in a matching colour (which can extend to a maximum of 100cm), there are plenty of interchangeable material straps in different patterns on offer, too. If you’re in need of a little more room, the standard sling bag is also available in large.

Key spec – Dimensions: 24 x 12.5 x 3.5cm ; Pockets : 2; Colourways : 17+; Material : Leather

3. Mous Extreme Commuter Backpack: Best stylish bag for tech travellers

best travel bag for women - Mous Extreme

If you travel with tech – as many now do – you’ll probably be looking for a bag that can adequately protect your laptop, camera equipment, chargers and precious backup hard drives. Enter Mous and its “extreme” backpack that’s designed for keeping technology safe.

Thickly padded on all sides, the sturdiness of the bag is immediately apparent. It’s made with impact-absorbing AirFoam technology, meaning a dropped bag won’t result in damage to any electronics stored inside. Although the front “Fidlock” magnetised clasp did take some getting used to, it’s a satisfying, secure-feeling mechanism that brings reassurance.

There are tons of pockets and compartments of different sizes to help with organisation, including a zip pocket lined with microfibre up top, a hidden compact pocket behind the shoulder straps and a padded laptop sleeve that can be accessed independently from the zippered main compartment.

Price-wise, this backpack is certainly an expensive option at £250, but it’s a seriously sturdy bag that promises durability – there’s even a limited lifetime warranty of 25 years. A slightly smaller 18-litre version is priced at £220.

Key spec – Dimensions: 48 x 33 x 17cm ;  Capacity: 25l; Pockets : 12; Colourways : 1; Material : Carbonated nylon and a PU coating

4. Chrome Ruckas Tote: Best versatile tote bag for women

best travel bag for women - Ruckas Tote

Those who hoard canvas tote bags for their travels will love the Chrome Ruckas Tote, which easily converts into a backpack with just a quick pull on the handle straps, but otherwise lays neatly flat, whether against your side or packed inside a larger suitcase.

Weighing just 0.5kg when empty, the bag can hold a surprising 27 litres – although since the straps aren’t padded, that maximum capacity may feel a little heavy on the shoulders.

The interior offers three compartments of reducing size, including a padded sleeve for a laptop, while a spacious and zippable front pocket on the outside is accompanied by two side pockets.

All three colourways (white, black and pale green) come with the same bright yellow interior, making it easy to see what you’ve packed inside, and the bag is made from weather-resistant recycled poly liners to keep your possessions safe and dry.

Key spec – Dimensions: 40 x 29 x 13cm ;  Capacity: 27l; Pockets : 6; Colourways : 3; Material : Recycled poly liners

5. Fjällräven Kånken Weekender: Best lightweight 3-in-1 travel bag for women

best travel bag for women - fjallraven kanken weekender

We love the structure-less design of the Kånken Weekender bag from Fjällräven. Despite being roomy enough to hold 30 litres, it barely weighs anything, and the oblong shape can easily be squished down when not in use – or when small spaces require it.

The Weekender bag is divided into three sections: a padded laptop pocket, a spacious central compartment and a separate zipped area, perfect for splitting up clean and dirty laundry or storing a pair of shoes. There’s also an expandable outer front pocket with a key hook, which can easily hold useful quick-access items such as your phone, wallet and passport.

Thanks to the variety of straps, you can choose to distribute the bag’s weight in three ways: via two holdall grab handles, a removable crossbody duffel-style strap, or thin shoulder straps that can be secured away with popper fasteners when not in use. It’s weather-resistant against any sudden storms and can easily be hand-washed if it gets a bit dingy (as the lighter colourways are prone to do).

As a lightweight but still hard-wearing bag, it’s certainly weekend-worthy, and it also meets Ryanair and EasyJet carry-on requirements, which is always a benefit!

Key spec – Dimensions: 44 x 30 x 20cm ;  Capacity: 30l; Pockets : 5; Colourways : 6; Material : Polyester and cotton

A free streaming service to rival the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ is being launched in the UK by Rupert Murdoch's Fox Corporation.

The service called Tubi will be funded by advertising and provide personalised streaming.

It already operates in North America where Fox said it has attracted 80 million active users.

More than 20,000 films and TV episodes will be on offer, Fox said, "one of the largest and most diverse content libraries in the UK".

While no specific titles were listed, Fox said users can expect blockbusters, original stories and hidden gems.

Is it any good?

It depends who you ask.

It has a pretty bad 2.3 score on Trustpilot - but it's a relatively small sample at 66 reviews.

A PC Mag review was way more positive - rating it "excellent" with four stars out of five.

They said: "Tubi is a free, ad-supported video streaming service that features a delightfully large and frequently updated library of movies and shows. There's no reason not to give it a try."

Drawbacks were said to include no ad-free options and the 720p streaming resolution cap.

Why is it coming to UK?

Business presenter Ian King has been looking at this today.

He says: "Tubi's entry to the UK market has got some scratching their heads.

"Not only is the market seemingly saturated but production costs are rising, obliging the streamers to either raise subscription fees or rely on an increasingly smaller pool of advertisers.

"But rivals would do well to take the new competitor seriously and not least because Tubi has already, in the US, shown a clean pair of heels to many of the businesses it will be competing with here."

The average UK house price ticked up in June, leaving first-time buyers spending almost £2 out of every £5 on their mortgages.

Typical house prices rose by 0.2% to £266,064, meaning there has been a 1.5% increase on the same time last year, a report by Nationwide found.

June saw prices rise at half the pace they did in May, but housing affordability is "still stretched", said Robert Gardner, Nationwide's chief economist.

And Amy Reynolds, head of sales at estate agency Antony Roberts, observed more people were looking to downsize to release capital to live on and pay bills in a "hugely concerning" trend.

A bank with millions of customers in the UK will soon start charging people to use their debit cards abroad .

Metro Bank emailed customers last week to tell them it will introduce a 2.99% charge on all transactions outside the UK, including Europe, as of 29 August.

Anyone wanting to withdraw cash from their account will also pay the fee plus a £1.50 ATM charge.

The bank currently does not charge for debit card use and cash withdrawals in Europe.

Walkers have confirmed one of its  snacks has been discontinued .

The Walkers Stax, which were similar to Pringles, are no longer available in the UK.

Writing on X, a customer said he had been able to find the product abroad and asked if he could buy them over here.

"We used to make Walkers Stax here in the UK, but sadly they're no more," the crisp brand replied.

It also said there were no plans to bring them back to market.

However, it seems like the crisps might not have been around for some time...

In 2021, Walkers replied to another online post saying it was sorry that they were no longer available.

Savers transferred £4.2bn extra into cash ISAs in May, according to new figures from the Bank of England - a record for the month.

It built on the previous record £12.3bn poured into the accounts in April, as people made the most of their annual tax-free savings.

Investment platform AJ Bell said figures show the 2024-25 tax year has "started with a big bang" for cash ISA savers.

Laith Khalaf, head of investment analysis, said: "Early bird ISA savers are no doubt out in force because they know taxes are rising as a result of frozen income tax thresholds."

He added: "At the same time tax thresholds have been frozen, interest rates have risen, making it more likely that savers will breach their tax-free savings allowance," he said.

"That means more people pushed up into the higher rate income tax band, where the personal savings allowance (the amount of interest you can earn each year before paying tax) falls from £1,000 to £500, or indeed to £0 for those in the additional rate tax bracket."

ISA savers can earn tax-free interest on their ISA savings, which are limited to £20,000 each year.

The Mortgage Works has announced it will reduce its rates by up to 0.3% across a range of its buy to let products tomorrow.

The new rates, which will be available to new and existing customers, will start at 3.69%.

Here are some of the deals:

  • Buy-to-let - two-year fixed rate (purchase and remortgage) at 3.69% with a 3% fee, available up to 65% LTV
  • Buy-to-let - five-year fixed rate (purchase and remortgage) at 4.04% with a 3% fee, available up to 65% LTV
  • Buy-to-let - five-year fixed switcher rate at 4.14% with a 3% fee, available up to 75% LTV
  • Buy-to-let - two-year fixed rate (purchase and remortgage) at 5.69% with a £3,995 fee, available up to 75% LTV

"Our products are some of the most competitive in the sector and, with rates now starting from 3.69%, these new deals will improve affordability and help widen market access for buy to let investors," said the company's Joe Avarne.

It comes after The Telegraph reported three major lenders had already cut rates this week.

Halifax and NatWest slashed rates by up to 0.23% - Clydesdale Bank by 0.38%

The cuts come as economists hope interest rates will fall in August, which will increase buyer activity.

Wimbledon is in full swing (sorry!) and the world's best tennis players are battling it out on the famous grass courts in the hopes of being presented with the trophy in under two weeks' time.

But it's not just pride that comes with winning - there's a fairly decent prize fund as well.

This year, the prize for winning the singles is a huge £2.7m - up by an inflation-busting 15% compared with £2.35m in 2023. The prize money is the same for both sexes and has been since the rules changed in 2007.

Players don't have to win the championship to get their hands on some cash though, as there's also a prize fund for getting through each stage of the competition.

Here's a breakdown for the singles championship:

  • First round - £60,000
  • Second round - £93,000
  • Third round - £143,000
  • Fourth round - £226,000
  • Quarter-finalists - £375,000
  • Semi-finalists - £715,000
  • Runner-up - £1.4m

Meanwhile, the prize for winning the doubles is £650,000, with runners up getting £330,000. For mixed doubles, it's £130,000 and £65,000 respectively.

Players taking part in wheelchair singles have the chance to nab £65,000 for winning.

Overall, the total prize money on offer across all championships is a whopping £50m - up 12% from last year.

Food inflation has fallen to its lowest level since 2021, new figures show.

New data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC)-NielsenIQ Shop Price Index reveals that food prices in June were 2.5% higher than a year ago.

This was down from 3.2% in May, and marked the fourteenth consecutive slowing of food inflation.

It means the rate is now lower than at any point since December 2021, with the drop fuelled by tumbling prices for staple products such as butter and coffee.

Inflation on fresh food slowed to 1.5%, down from 2% in May, while overall shop price inflation fell to 0.2% - the lowest level since October 2021.

BRC chief executive Helen Dickinson said the winner of Thursday's general election "will benefit from the work of retailers to cut their costs and prices, easing the cost of living for millions of households".

In the eastern Aegean, the islands of Chios and Kos experienced dangerous fires yesterday - with blazes raging on Kos for a second day today amid tinderbox conditions and unusually strong winds.

The Greek prime minister has warned his country faces another dangerous summer for wildfires.

Beyond the human tragedy these blazes can cause, there's a knock-on effect on tourism in the country.

So what are your rights if your holiday is disrupted by the fires? We've got a quick explainer here…

What if I have a package holiday and face cancellation or disruption?

The Foreign Office is not currently advising against travel to Greece, and with the majority of the country and its surrounding islands unaffected, holidays are still going ahead.

But holiday operators do have the right to cancel holidays for situations out of their control.

If the company you booked your package holiday with cancels your trip, the Competition and Markets Authority says customers are entitled to a refund within 14 days of the cancellation date.

Alternatively, they should be offered a replacement holiday of the same or better quality, or a lower-grade holiday with a partial refund.

If something goes wrong while you're away on a package holiday, Citizens Advice recommends getting in touch with the company or travel agent you booked with as soon as possible.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) advised package holiday customers during last year's wildfires they may be entitled to a partial refund for a trip cut short due to wildfires, depending on several factors including what services were included and how much of the holiday had already been taken.

Will my insurance cover any issues?

This depends on a few things - including when you took out the policy, who you took it out with and what the exact terms and conditions are.

If your policy includes trip disruption or natural disaster cover, you should be covered if you have to cut short or cancel your holiday due to wildfires, according to the ABI.

Natural disaster cover isn't included in every policy, so read the T&Cs carefully.

You're unlikely to be covered if you took out the policy or booked the trip to a specific area affected by wildfires after they were known about. You also won't be covered if you travel against Foreign Office advice.

If you have booked a package holiday with an operator and it comes with an Atol certificate, you'll have extra protections, although you'll still need insurance for health and accident cover.

If you've booked the separate parts of your trip yourself, you're more reliant on insurance and will need to make sure you've got a policy in place that would cover you for wildfires and other natural disasters such as floods and storms.

What are my rights if my flight is cancelled?

Your flight is covered by UK law if it departs from a UK airport, arrives at a UK airport on a UK or EU airline, or arrives at an EU airport on a UK airline.

Under UK law, if your flight is cancelled the airline must either give you a refund or book you on an alternative flight - either with them or a rival airline.

Each airline will have its own cancellation policy for customers.

If your flight is cancelled within 14 days of travel - and you can prove it was the airline's fault - you are entitled to compensation. However, extreme weather and other "extraordinary circumstances" mean the airline can get out of paying.

And if I cancel the holiday myself?

If the Foreign Office doesn't advise against travel to a wildfire-affected country or area then under normal booking conditions, you'd be ineligible for a refund.

However, you could speak to your travel agent or holiday company if you're particularly concerned. They may offer a change of dates or destination - but there's no guarantee.

Some holiday accommodation will allow refunds until a certain date - so just check the details of your booking first.

The rate of price rises is slowing but consumers are still shopping "more cautiously" at J Sainsbury plc, the company that owns Argos and the Sainsbury's chain of supermarkets announced today.

"Unseasonal" wet weather in recent weeks dampened some sales.

Argos sales were down a worse-than-expected 6.2%, particularly purchases of consumer electronics, most notably gaming sales.

As a result, J Sainsbury plc was the biggest share price faller on the FTSE 100 index of most valuable companies with a 4.34% tumble. Overall the index was down 0.38% on Tuesday morning while the larger FTSE 250 list was 0.15% down.

The strength of the euro still means the pound buys less than for the majority of the last month - £1 = €1.1778. Sterling is also down against the dollar, around levels seen six weeks ago. One pound buys $1.2630.

Bad news for motorists as the oil price is at a two-month high - a barrel of Brent crude oil costs $89.90. It's still below last year's September high point of $98.36.

A popular electric car sold in the UK has a "potentially significant" issue that could veer the driver into oncoming traffic, research has found.

Consumer group Which? says it discovered issues with the MG4's lane-assist technology while testing it on public roads.

It said the system, which is designed to keep the car in lane, twice pulled the car onto the wrong side of the road, with the tester having to use a "significant amount of force" to steer it back.

In another incident on a narrow country road, the lane-assist tech steered the car towards an oncoming vehicle, again forcing the tester to manually intervene.

According to Which?, visibility was good in all cases and the wider road had a "clearly defined centre line, while the country road had a clearly defined edge line".

It said the incidents were noticed during testing outside of controlled lab conditions, and couldn't be repeated in subsequent tests.

The issues come despite MG4 boasting a five-star Euro NCAP score, which takes into account safety features such as lane assist.

A spokesperson for the assessment programme told Which? that manufacturers "have a responsibility to ensure that the vehicle performance seen on a test track is also reflected in on-road driving".

Meanwhile, MG told the consumer watchdog it was "aware of some inconsistencies relating to the lane-departure warning system", making it "oversensitive" in certain conditions.

"We have been working on a continuous improvement programme with the supplier and the relevant regulatory authorities," the company said.

"This has resulted in an improved calibration of the ADAS systems, which we are close to having approved. Once this has been completed, we will implement it as a full software upgrade at no expense to the customer."

MG added that customers can turn off the lane-assist function via the car's touchscreen menu - but it insisted it had received no safety-related reports.

Just 18% of companies in the UK are led by women, and while data suggests female entrepreneurs are on the rise, men still receive more funding and are entrusted with higher average loans to get them started.

In an eight-part series every Tuesday, Money blog reporter  Jess Sharp  speaks to women who are bossing it in their respective fields - hearing their stories, struggles and advice for those who want to follow in their footsteps by starting a business.

This week, she has spoken to Kelly McCabe, the co-founder of the UK's first virtual cancer care clinic Perci Health...

When Kelly and her co-founder Morgan Fitzsimons set up their business, they made an unusual decision - they sat down and planned when they'd both have children.

It's a topic many men will never feel the need to discuss with their business partners, but as two women, it was something they realistically needed to think about.

"We had a long conversation and made a decision that we would have children at different times so that one person would stay in the business to allow the other to take the time out they needed," Kelly said.

"Of course, you can't plan this thing perfectly, but we were fortunate enough that it kind of happened that way."

Morgan was the first to have her baby and returned to work after a couple of months off, and Kelly gave birth six months later.

A month after having her now nearly two-year-old son, Kelly returned to work and Perci Health has continued to grow ever since.

'Whether it was NHS or private care -  I saw the same problem'

Despite Perci Health being a virtual care clinic, Kelly's career background had nothing to do with app development - she started out in the NHS.

One of the roles she had was helping people with cancer eat and drink while receiving treatment.

Working mostly with people with head and neck cancer, she supported them with tube feeding and their rehabilitation back to solid foods.

After working in a similar area in private healthcare, she realised all cancer patients were experiencing the same problem.

"There was a universal experience at the end of treatment where you would have your final review with your cancer nurse or oncologist, and they would say 'see you again in six months or 12 months time'," Kelly said.

"Patients would come back into our follow-up clinics with all sorts of problems they had been living with for six months or 12 months and no one was really managing them.

"They had just be grinning and bearing it, thinking it was just par for the course after having cancer."

She decided to come up with an idea that would connect people living with cancer with professionals who could provide long-term support and optimise their wellbeing.

Male investors in a male-bias sector

With a plan in mind, she reached out to her friend Morgan, who had a background in digital marketing, and the pair got started working weekends and evenings to build their company.

When COVID hit, they made the decision to "just go for it", quit their jobs and put all their focus on the business.

Their first round of funding came from family and friends, raising £500,000, which gave them enough to pay themselves a reduced salary and hire a small team.

But more funding was needed, and they started reaching out to investors.

With Kelly's clinical experience, the issue she was trying to solve in the health care sector seemed "obvious", but the first hurdle she faced was convincing others that it was "important enough to solve".

"The challenges seemed very obvious to us, but they might not necessarily be obvious to investors, and I think that is particularly true if you're solving a problem that affects women," she said.

"The majority of investors are still male... and when you are trying to describe yourself as a technology company, then sadly there is still a male bias in that sector."

"I'm really sad to say that it's kind of the old-fashioned things you think of, like a lot of them sell on the golf course or over lunch or going shooting, and we don't get invited to golf or to shoot.

"You don't get many female-owned technology businesses, so that was a barrier."

Pregnant, pitching and spotting red flags

While meeting potential investors, Kelly was heavily pregnant and was "nervous" to explain her situation out of fear it would put them off investing.

"When I had my first conversation with our now lead investor, I was 38 weeks pregnant, so we just did all the conversations on Zoom," she said.

"She called and said 'we'd like to invite you in to meet the team and do a formal pitch. Can you do it next week?' and obviously I had to tell her I was heavily pregnant.

"She could tell I was nervous about telling her... but she said she was sorry that I had to explain myself, and we could just delay the pitch.

"We pushed it back about six weeks, but not all investors are that understanding, which is why I was so nervous to explain it."

Unfortunately, Kelly said she was "definitely asked" in the early fundraising rounds if she was planning to have children.

"The feedback from male investments clubs was that women don't know how they feel and may not return to work after having a baby or their motivation to run a business may change," she said.

"Early on, we were just looking for investment and we would have taken any partner, but now these are the red flags that we look for.

"There is some definite progress to be made."

In total, Kelly has raised £5m and still owns 40% of Perci Health.

All the challenges

Away from the challenge of fundraising, Kelly also had to deal with life as a new mum, which brought its own challenges as a business owner.

She explained how having children early in the company's life meant it was still "relatively fragile" and there wasn't the chance to take maternity leave knowing her job would be safe when she returned.

"There was a bit of a juggle with that and needing to go back to work very quickly after the baby was born, and then the other challenge is childcare," she said.

"You don't want to be taking too much money out of your business and you're rewarded with equity rather than a salary - but of course, equity doesn't pay for childcare."

Kelly also found there was an "underestimation" of her abilities from male investors, and it was something she noticed in the choice of language used to describe her.

"I believe women business owners are underestimated and that is evidenced by the fact that less investment goes to us, but there's research that shows women-owned companies are more profitable," she said.

"The language they use is interesting. For example, I'm often described as a conservative CEO within the portfolio because I'm focused on financial preservation... but would my male counterpart be seen as such or would he be seen as having optimal control?"

Kelly's advice

Kelly's top tip is to find a business partner, possibly even two, that can help your business grow.

"Building a business alone would be significantly harder," she said.

"Co-founders just help ease the burden when one of you needs to take time out, so find yourself a good business partner."

She also recommended taking "a lot of time" to build a "strong network", which she said would help "protect you as your business grows".

"There are a lot of female entrepreneurs or female business networks that are great. Morgan and I are members of lots of them," she added.

"It's amazing how the amount of advice and support that we have been given for free from other women just wanting to help."

She said it was important to have a "really thick skin and to be very persistent".

"Even in the very best businesses, you get those 100 no's before you get that one yes," she added.
