Governor Juan Rodriguez conceived the idea of an official residence under his administration, especially since Governors before him came from different parts of the province. In order to ease travel, he commissioned a governor’s mansion across the Pangasinan Provincial Capitol he promptly named “Urduja Palace,” named after the legendary Urduja, a princess of Tawilisi, said to be located in the present-day Pangasinan. It was officially named “Urduja House” as a simplication since it was too small to be a palace.

Limahong Channel

House declares Limahong Channel a tourist spot: THE HOUSE of Representatives approved on third and final reading a bill declaring the historic Limahong Channel in Lingayen, Pangasinan, a tourist spot. About 192 lawmakers unanimously voted for the approval of House Bill 6682, whose principal author is Pangasinan Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil. The channel is where Chinese pirate Limahong — who invaded the northern part of the Philippine islands in 1574 — sought refuge when his army was repulsed by defenders of Pangasinan, then a royal encomienda. Limahong Channel is located along the Agno River at the mouth of the Lingayen Gulf. Bataoil, also chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and Welfare, said declaring the Limahong Channel as a tourist spot could entice local and foreign travelers, especially the Chinese, to visit the place. This would generate employment opportunities for residents of the municipality and nearby communities.

10 Places to Visit in Lingayen and Calasiao in a Day

After the wedding of our very good friend in Lingayen we spare no time to tour the stunning town of Lingayen and its nearby town Calasiao. We wanted to go to Bolinao or Alaminos but found it too far to catch the last trip of Victory Liner bound to Manila. We haven’t planned of the sites to visit when we stepped on this town. Thankfully we saw a brochure by the local tourism office and found some interesting places to visit.     We already visited the Capitol Building and Maramba Boulevard on the evening of our friend’s wedding. We just decided to skip it in the morning and comeback to it if ever we have time in the afternoon.    1. Maramba Boulevard

2. Aguedo F. Agbayani Park

3. Capitolyo

4.  Ramos House   Our first stop that day was the replica of Ramos House. Just located at the back of our home in Lingayen – The President Hotel – we gain a lot of insight about the childhood of 12th President of the Republic of the Philippines – President Fidel V. Ramos. Like all ancestral houses in the Philippines – which by the way I love – Ramos House is flourished by fine wood and made homey by antique and modern furniture.

At the time of visit, Ramos House do not collect fees nor donations. Downside is one has to make an appointment with the tourism office in the Capitol or Urduja House. We were blessed at the time of our visit because the caretaker of the house opened it for us even though it’s a Sunday and she just came from church. She enthusiastically toured us around pointing each interesting piece with a little trivia and history. She added that Pres. Ramos will soon visit the house to add more pieces and convert it into a museum.

5. Bagoong Factory

We hit the tricycle to see how the famous delicacy of Pangasinan is created. Honestly, I am not a fan of Bagoong of any kind. I just wanted to see how this thing is created. Although I don’t eat bagoong I bought some bottles of it including the Patis (fish sauce) and salt for present at home. The prices are  very cheap. I paid Php90 for all the stuff that I bought.

I fell in love with this church. St. Peter and Paul Parish Church is beautiful inside and out. This is one of the two churches where I will marry my better half. One is in Fuerza de Sta. Isabel in Taytay Palawan .

7. Puto Calasiao (Rice Cake)

lingayen pangasinan tourist spot

Filipinos loves Puto (rice cake). Almost every province in the archipelago has a version of Puto. But Puto Calasiao is definitely one of the best. From the plain flavor to cheese, pandan and other flavors your Calasiao experience will not be complete without bringing home a bag of Puto Calasiao.  Puto Calasiao cost Php100 per kilo.

8. Urduja House

Urduja House is where the Governor of Pangasinan lives. Its like their provincial version of Malacanang. Special meetings is also conducted here. The House is open to the public free of charge.

The interior of the house is Asian inspired as evident by pieces from Thailand and India. Furniture are at par and one would think that they are in a five star hotel when they enter its intricate doors.

9. Lingayen Beach

One should not forget Lingayen beach . For me this is what a public beach is. Wide, clean, without structures, fine sand and most of all free!

The waves are so fine with sand boarding enthusiast loving the water. There are vendors selling different kinds of food too. So your tummy will be happy if ever you only got your board shorts and sun blocked cream.

10. Old Structures in Downtown Lingayen My visit to any place would be complete without strolling in the downtown and observe its commerce and structures. The commerce evident in the downtown is the window to what kind of life the locals have. Structures on the other hand talks of the history of the town if only they are preserved by the locals and authorities.

lingayen pangasinan tourist spot

Lingayen is the capital of Pangasinan Province yet the town is laid back and calm. I like that, its my kind of province. A Jollibee and some famous local food chain are the only glimpse of a growing economy aside from the big local banks in the downtown. What thrilled me is the presence of Video City – VCD/DVD rental shop – which I think died in Metro Manila years ago.

Bus Schedule to Lingayen

lingayen pangasinan tourist spot

When it comes to bus transportation I only trust the one that is tested by time and has the credibility to move passengers safely and comfortably. Whenever I go north Victory Liner is my choice. Aside from the assurance of safety – not to mention the insurance worth Php5.00 for each passenger – the comfort that it gives to passengers is superb.

The bus that we took from Lingayen to Manila was new (lucky us) and smells so fresh. I like the fact that the seat has a head rest aside from the functional reclining seats. With these the 5 hours Lingayen – Manila journey was enjoyable and comfortable.      Updated Bus Schedules   Cubao to Lingayen (6 PM, 7 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM 10 PM and 11.40 PM) Pasay to Lingayen (12.30 PM, 3 PM, 5.30 PM) Lingayen to Cubao (last bus leaves at 6 PM)   For updates on fare matrix and schedules, please click here .     Contact Information: Website:  www.victoryliner.com E-mail:     [email protected] Twitter:  @victorylinerinc   CUBAO TERMINAL (02) 727-4688 (02) 410-8986 (02) 727-4534   PASAY TERMINAL (02) 833-4403 (02) 833-5019 to 20   LINGAYEN TERMINAL (075) 542-3984

Top Attractions of Lingayen, Pangasinan

Top Attractions of Lingayen, Pangasinan

Dubbed as “the heart, the soul and the face” of the Province of Pangasinan , Lingayen is famous for its attractions, historical value and of course bagoong (made of fermented fish or shrimp). A beautiful and peaceful place, Lingayen has a lot to offer those who visit her shores.

Reasons to Visit

Lingayen Beach Photo by: firingyourimagination.blogspot.com

  • Lingayen Provincial Capitol – The elegant structure of the provincial capitol makes you notice it whether during the day or night. The white and yellow structure features sculptures in front and stately stairs.

The Veterans Memorial Park Photo by: www.turistatrails.com

  • Veteran’s Memorial Park – Located at the back of the Capitol, this site is where you get to see some of the photos during World War II.

Getting to Lingayen

Pangasinan doesn’t have a dedicated airport. So, if you’re coming from Manila, the best way to get here is by bus or car.

Take a bus from any of the following: Dagupan Bus Lines, Victory Liner, Five Star Bus Company and the Solid North Bus Company.

Get on NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) and drive through the provinces of Tarlac and Pampanga. The trip will take around four to five hours.

Enjoying Your Stay

  • Get a taste of bangus – Known as milkfish, this is mostly taken from the neighboring town of Dagupan, but you can also savor it in Lingayen. There are lots of ways to cook this fish including souring it in guava or tamarind broth, grilling it with tomato and onion salsa or frying it to a golden crisp.
  • Visit an old house – The Urduja House in Lingayen is definitely one of the houses you should visit. It was named after a mythical princess from the 14 th century and has an indigenous feel to it.
  • Savor a lot of carbohydrates – Filipinos love rice and rice cakes. It doesn’t matter if they’re boiled, steamed or baked, these sugary cakes are always available wherever you go in the Philippines. Here in Pangasinan, taste the local variant, puto calasiao, Just like others in its family tree, it is bite sized and gummy.

Lingayen is a town filled with so much history and it shows in her historical wonders. However, it’s not just the beauty of the town itself that makes it a wonderful attraction, the warmth of her people is good enough to keep coming back to this town.

Did you get to see how bagoong is being done in the factory? I'm interested if they are using large machines and innovative systems.

We also visited Pangasinan last year (2013) but weren't able to do some of the things you mentioned here! I guess I need to visit the place again and take your adventure tips with me!

Seems like you have a great time. I love the Tupig and Romana's peanut brittle.

Saan makakabili ng Tupig at Romana's peanut brittle sa Pangasinan?

Hey Roch! We didn't get to see the Bagoong being processed in actual, kasi nasa fermentation process na siya. The ones we saw dun sa small factory that we visited (several in big plastic containers and parang concrete vessels) were around 2months old na.. And they didn't have any big machinery. Meron lang isa, medyo maliit pa. I think they used it pa for bottling purposes. Nonetheless, interesting makita yung mga ginagawa sa factory kahit may malansang amoy. :P

You should Marianne! I fell in love with Lingayen and Calasiao, so I intend to revisit these places soon! :)

What I missed visiting there was the Capitol beachfront. I was fortunate to check out the rooftop of the capitol, though, on a Sunday. From there I saw the beachfront.

I know so many people who've already had so much fun in Pangasinan and all I can think of is how far away from Manila it is. Definitely showing this to my dad for future trips as reference! :)

Really, I can't wait to visit other parts of our country...and this one's awesome!

Anak, to be Frank, ang alam ko lang sa Pangasinan, eh bangus.. Whah.. But I do have an in-law who keep on egging me to visit her province. Now I know, my hipag is telling the truth.

I couldnt agree more! the capitol building is exquisite... looks like its from other country. (dont get me wrong. im not undermining our own)

wow i learned a lot in this post . I never knew that Pangasinan reallycame literally from the tagalog word Asin.. and it is a revelation that this province is filled with beautiful structures . I envy you coz you'd been to Urduja Residence and Ramos'. I wish i could visit this soon.I want to taste the calasia puto . must be yum yum ...

Baka kailangan nio ng van for rent next time going anywhere in luzon.. text me at 09175180965.. :)

Hi Anne! I'll keep that in mind. Maraming salamat! :)

Thanks for visiting Lingayen and Calasiao! It was nice meeting you rin finally :) balik kayo at food trip tayo sa Dagupan! :D

No, thank you for meeting us, and for recommending The President Hotel to us, Mica. I really enjoyed our stay in Lingayen, as in! :) And yes, Dagupan naman next time!!! :)

Sayang Karl! Di bale, balik na lang ulit para naman magswimming sa beach. :)

Di bale, Dennis.. malapit lang naman ang Pangasinan. Pwedeng-pwede puntahan, anytime. And yes, masarap talaga yung Calasiao puto! Bigla tuloy ako nagCrave! :) Try mo soon.

I've only been to Lingayen. I didn't realize there is so much to see in Pangasinan. Hopefully someday I can go back and meet other bloggers din. :)

Hi Aleah! I was also surprised that there were a lot of noteworthy sites in Pangasinan, specifically in Lingayen and Calasiao. Hopefully, next time maMeet na din kita! :)

December to May | Dry and Peak Season

Tourism arrivals peak on the summer months of March, April, and May, when the beaches of Pangasinan becomes one of the most popular holiday setting in the island of Luzon.

Additionally, cultural festivals are held every month in different towns in Pangasinan. The two most attended revelries are the Bangus Festival and Pista'y Dayat.

Bangus Festival | April

Named after the national fish of the Philippines, The Bangus Festival, pays homage to the milkfish (bangus) aquaculture industry that has powered the local economy of the province for the longest time. Held in the city of Dagupan every April, the celebration usually lasts up to 10 days.

Bangus Festival attractions you should watch out for include a colorful street dancing competition called the Gilon-Gilon ed Baley, which is participated by contingents from the 31 barangays of Dagupan City.

Adorned with vibrant costumes and creative milkfish figures, the performers put on an entertaining display of showmanship as they re-enact the "Gilon" (a local term for harvesting bangus) while parading the streets of Dagupan.

Aside from the street parade, you can also witness other cultural events, local art fairs, sports competitions, parties, and a cooking contest featuring chefs demonstrating the hundred different ways of cooking bangus.

Pista’y Dayat | May

Celebrated every 1st of May in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Pista'y Dayat—meaning "Sea Festival"—is a festival intended to express gratitude to the year's bountiful sea harvest.

A medley of activities is held the whole month of May highlighted by a parade of local boats called "Banca Parada", happening along the Limahong Channel of the Agno River.

Other activities include triathlon events, orchestra competition, art fairs, community coastal clean-up and other variety shows and sporting competitions.

The town of Burgos is where you can find another stretch of white beach called Cabangaoan. Making this place exceptional is the existence of the so-called "Death Pool”.

Marvel at the Umbrella Rocks and Abagatanen Beach in Agno

In the quaint town of Agno, Pangasinan, a unique set of rock formations carved by the natural sea elements appear beautifully out-of-place. Located a few steps from Sabangan Beach, these bunch of huge boulders are called "Umbrella Rocks" because of its shapes.

A short distance away from the Umbrella Rocks and facing the West Philippine Sea, is another beach destination called Abagatanen. A small fishing village is located right at the white sandy shore of the beach.

Apart from enjoying a quiet day at this remote beach, visiting this place also gives you the chance to witness daily scenes of local life.

Learn Salt Farming at Pacific Salt Farm

The name of Pangasinan came from the word "Pang-asinan" which means "place of salt", because salt-farming used to be one of the biggest industries in the province. The Pacific Farms in Bolinao, conducts Agri-Eco tours for tourists wanting to learn more about the intricate yet fascinating process of salt farming, harvesting and packaging.

As the largest salt producer in the Philippines, producing more than 15,000 metric tons of salt each year, there's no better place to learn about salt farming than at Pacific Salt Farm. Their Agri-Eco tour takes visitors to at least six stations in the farm concluding with hands-on experience in harvesting and stockpiling of salt.

Say a Prayer at Our Lady of Manaoag Church

Pangasinan is also famous for being a pilgrimage tour destination. One of the most visited churches in the country, the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag is a popular pilgrimage site among Catholics.

The image of the Mother Mary housed inside the church is said to perform miracles to churchgoers who pray for their personal intentions.

Manaoag Church is also the site of an unusual religious practice where new car owners drive here to have their vehicle blessed by the priest. Outside the church, one can buy one of Pangasinan's famous dessert, the tupig (local rice cake).

Seafood platter in a local restaurant in Pangasinan

Each town has its own specialty and as you eat your way through the province, you’re sure to discover heaps of gastronomical delights—aside from gaining a bit of weight.

Local Cuisine

Local fish paste called bagoong made by locals of Pangasinan

Traditional Pangasinense cuisine is known for the use of "bagoong" (fish paste) either as a condiment or a main ingredient. Many travelers always make it a point to stop by the town of Lingayen to buy bottles of bagoong as pasalubongs.

Compared to the typical bangus cultivated in freshwater, the ones on Pangasinan are bred and harvested in the salt water of the Lingayen Gulf. This gives the milkfish a saltier taste with lesser stench—making it an ideal type of fish to cook in a variety of ways such as fried, grilled, or to be added to other dishes like sinigang or pinakbet.

The coastal towns of Bolinao, Dagupan and Alaminos are where you can find rows of restaurants serving an assortment of bangus dishes and other seafood staples.

Other Pangasinan food you shouldn't miss out are Alaminos Longanisa, Kaleskesan (Pangasinan's version of Papaitan), Bagisen (sort of like the Dinuguan but cooked with a local twist) and the Pigar-Pigar (beef or carabao meat and liver jerky served with onions and cabbage).

Pangasinense Sweets

Binungey is a sticky rice delicacy soaked in coconut milk and slow-steamed in a bamboo shell

Be sure not to miss out on tasting the “Binungey” when you pass by the towns of Anda and Bolinao. This sticky rice delicacy is soaked in coconut milk and slow-steamed inside a bamboo shell over fire. It is best paired with a slice of ripe mango. People always compare it to Thailand’s Mango Sticky Rice.

Recommended Best Restaurants and Bars

Seafood platter at Matutina's in Pangasinan

True to it, a selection of worldwide cuisines from Moroccan, Mediterranean, Chinese, American, and even South American constitutes the rich menu of this restaurant.

You can't go wrong with a choice of Moroccan Salad, Buffalo Wings, Osso Buco, Poached Surgeon Fish, Chicken Parmesan and more. Cuisinero can be found along MacArthur Hi-way in Urdaneta City.

They also serve other house favorites such as Sinigang na Salmon Head, Crispy Pata, Dinuguan ala Kapampangan, Crunchy Hito, and more. But of course, the real star is always the Baby Back Ribs—so it’s wise to include it in your order.

Jacobo’s Seafood Grill

In a province known for seafood, expect to see a few floating restaurants. One that stands out the most is Jacobo's Seafood Grill in Dagupan City.

Built on stilts over a bangus fish pond, this restaurant serves a tasteful mix of Filipino and Cajun cuisines. Bestsellers such as Cajun shrimp, boneless bangus, pork binagoongan and coconut shrimps are just some of the favorites.

Kuya Max Restogrill

What started as a modest side-street carinderia in 2003 has now grown to become one of Dagupan's most popular restaurants.

Some of their bestsellers includes: crispy hito, sizzlling pork bingoongan, kare-kareng gulay, spicy clam soup, pigar-pigar, bangus max, seafood tinolo and more. Kuya Max Restogrill is located along De Venecia Road in Lucao District, Dagupan City.

A Breathtaking Experience To Lingayen Beach

Lingayen Public Beach can be found in Lingayen, the capital of Pangasinan province. This beach is a very relaxing place for everyone. Its long seashore, fine sand, clear water and cool breeze from the ocean are extremely fun and enjoyable.

lingayen pangasinan tourist spot

It is near in Manila so you can easily get here during your free time, especially weekends. You can travel more or less 250 kilometers from Manila. It is also a perfect place to relieve your stress from the hectic urban life.

The beach has different amenities – picnic huts, camping grounds and a bathhouse – about 20 meters away from the coast.

Lingayen Beach is well known for resorts that provide inexpensive but beautiful beach cottages and huts. Beach hotels, resorts and restaurants serve freshly grilled seafood which is perfect when you are on the beach. The area is also a fishing center for shells, oysters, sea and fresh water fish, squids, and other succulent seafood in Pangasinan. Lingayen is also known for its specialty sauce which is the Lingayen Bagoong. It is a favorite sauce by both locals and tourists.

The Lingayen Gulf and its whole municipality had been one of the strategic points used during World War II. The long beach served as the landing strip of numerous attack planes. The area where the beach facilities are now established was one of the landing areas of the American Forces that paved way for the liberation of Northern Luzon on January 9, 1945.

The Lingayen Gulf is a strategically historical stage of the battle between American and Japanese Forces during World War II. The bay is very significant to the province of Pangasinan. On December 22 1941, Japanese 14th Army under Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma landed on the Eastern part of the gulf at Agoo, Caba, Santiago and Bauang, where they betrothed in a number of relatively minor scuffles with the defenders, which consisted of a poorly-equipped contingent of predominantly American and Filipino troops, and managed to successfully invade and occupy the gulf. After the defeat, General Douglas MacArthur issued the order to retreat from Luzon and withdraw to Bataan. For the next three years, the gulf remained under Japanese occupation after the Lingayen Gulf Landings.

The people in Pangasinan are so blessed to have beautiful beaches situated in their province especially the Lingayen beach. They are near at the beach anytime they want they can visit and have fun in the beach. Many have said that it is a perfect place to live and work because of its peaceful environment.

If you want an affordable and unforgettable vacation this place is for you. It is packed with beauty and serenity – a good spot for everybody who wants to have a sweet relaxation.

Ramos Ancestral House/Museum In Lingayen Pangasinan

Pangasinan Tourist Spots

The ancestral home of former President Fidel Ramos has become one of the tourist attractions in his home province of Pangasinan.

The current structure is the replica of the original ancestral house of the Ramos family. Their first home was destroyed during World War II. The one that stands today was established in 1995 by the Ramos Foundation. And it is believed that it is the exact spot of the family house of Narciso Ramos, his wife Angela Valdez, and their children Fidel, Leticia, and Gloria.

Location Map

Inside the house.

Upon entering the gate, their is a historical marker which provides a quick insight of the Ramos family and the house.

For many years, the site was widely known as the exact location of the family house of lawyer, journalist, statesman and diplomat Narciso Ramos, his wife Angela Valdez, a former English supervisor at the Pangasinan Vocational High School and their children Fidel, Leticia and Gloria.

It was here where the former President was born and where he spent his childhood.

The house is made mostly of hardwood – the ceiling, walls, and windows; even the chairs, tables, and beds are made out of wood. Even though the original residence was destroyed, some of the family’s memorabilia have been saved and are now on display in the restored home.

Pangasinan Tourist Spots

The walls of the house are adorned with framed pictures of President Fidel V. Ramos’ family and his achievements in life, as well as other family memorabilia. Aside from the pictures of the siblings, there are also those of the couple, Narciso and Angela, meetings with global leaders such as the Clintons and Queen Elizabeth of London.
