Port Bar Harbor cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Bar Harbor, Maine. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Bar Harbor is a port town on Mount Desert Island (Hancock County, Maine USA), with a population of around 5,000. It is a very popular tourist destination in Maine's Down East region.

Since January 2024, Bar Harbor Port (locode USBHB) has limited cruise shipping to 1000 daily disembarking tourists (passengers and crew), which is a substantial reduction from the previous 3000 daily visitors to the cruise port.

It is estimated that cruise tourists contribute USD 20+ million annually to Maine State's economy. Before the cruise shipping industry's pause (since mid-March 2020), the port expected nearly 200 ship calls and 300,000+ passengers. However, the entire 2020 season was eventually canceled. By mid-November 2020, Bar Harbor ME had booked 150+ cruise ship dockings (scheduled port calls) for season 2021.

Regularly scheduled ferries connect to Canada ( Yarmouth Nova Scotia ), with crossing time 3,5 hours.

In 2016, the port handled 105 cruise ship calls and around 169,000 passengers. During season 2016, cruise tourists spent at Bar Harbor around USD 15 million, with total economic impact USD 20,2M (based on a University of Maine study). To these figures must be added passenger fees (USD 0,7M) paid to the city. Also additional is spending by crew and cruise companies themselves. The study team handed out surveys to cruise passengers arriving at Harbor Place or Harborside Dock. Tourists returned 2231 surveys by mail (47% response rate). According to the study, 138,285 passengers disembarked in the cruise port in 2016. This was 87% of vessels' combined passenger capacity (163,000 pax). Note: passenger fees are based on the ship's capacity. The study also showed that in 2016, around 2 million tourists visited Bar Harbor and Acadia NP, of which cruisers were around 10%.

During season 2017, the cruise port handled a total of 171 ship calls (40% increase over 2016) and over 225,000 passengers.

On November 17, 2020, Bar Harbor Town Council discussed the popular policy (for smaller seaports in the USA) to limit the annual number of ships due to the ongoing concerns over the COVID crisis. In November 2022, via voting (1780 vs 1273) was placed a daily limit of 1000 cruise tourists, effective January 2024. A fine of US$100 per person is imposed on the company/operator for every disembarking passenger over the daily limit.

The small town is nationwide famous for its MDI Biological Laboratory (1898-founded independent nonprofit biomedical research facility), The Jackson Laboratory (JAX - large research facility specializing in mammalian genetics, nonprofit with over 2100 employees), College of the Atlantic (COA - private liberal-arts college).

However, Bar Harbor is best known for Acadia National Park/NP, which includes ~1/2 of Mount Desert Island (Cadillac Mountain) plus adjacent smaller isles. The town is served by Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (in Trenton ME), located approx 15 km (9 mi) northwest of downtown Bar Harbor. The county-owned airport serves regularly scheduled domestic flights (carriers Elite Airways, Peninsula Airways, Cape Air, PenAir) connecting to Boston MA, Newark NJ, and Vero Beach FL.

In close proximity to downtown, Acadia NP offers numerous outdoor activities, such as hiking, trekking, biking, mountain climbing, bird watching. Tourists interested in the island's marine life can visit the yacht marina (at the end of Main Street) and sign up for boat tours for wildlife viewing (puffins, whales, seals, lobster, pelagic seabirds) or harbor cruises.

Bar Harbor cruise terminal

Bar Harbor ME is a tender cruise port, which means cruise liners anchor in Frenchman Bay and their passengers are transported to the pier via the ship's tender boats.

After the ship drops anchor, cruise passengers are ferried back and forth to one of the port's 2 piers/docks in downtown (at 121 Eden Street). From there, they can connect (with trolleys and buses) to local attractions, including Acadia National Park.

(NEW) Bar Harbor cruise terminal "Marine Atlantic"

As tendering passengers increase cruise companies' costs, there is a plan for the conversion of the old ferry terminal (on Eden Street) to a combined ferry -cruise terminal facility.

The town voted on June 13, 2017 (Article 12) to re-zone the old ferry terminal. Following the vote (945 to 658), the town purchased the state-owned Marine Atlantic property (former ferry terminal) from the Maine Department of Transportation. This facility served two Bay Ferries ships (The Cat, The Bluenose) connecting Bar Harbor with Nova Scotia Canada ( Yarmouth ).

• In February 2019 was signed a 5-year lease deal (thru 2024) with annual rent CAD 264,000.
• By the lease agreement, Bay Ferries started a major terminal renovation project that includes demolition and rebuilding of Customs Plaza, as well as a renovation of outbuildings and portions of the terminal building's interior.
• Customs Plaza's renovation also includes installing new equipment (required by US Customs and Border Protection), repairs to the existing docking pier, installing a new fixed bridge section (adjacent to the pier), transfer of the floating ferry ramp from Portland to Bar Harbor.
• Nova Scotia contributed to the cost of the ferry terminal's border services. Since the Maine-Nova Scotia ferry service was resumed (2015-2018), the NS government spent CAD 32 million in subsidies.

Article 12's zoning change allows cruise (and other) vessels to dock at the ferry terminal. Several lawsuits (filed by locals) were against this port development project. As of 2019, Ferry Terminal Visioning Committee has approved the state-owned property to be used as a multi-use terminal. The current deal includes a 5-year lease for the CAT ferry providing daily connections Bar Harbor-Yarmouth. Other terminal uses could include a possible yacht marina, boat storage, overflow parking (for tourists), cruise ship tendering.

In early-July 2020, due to the progressing in the USA COVID pandemic, Bar Harbor decided to close its seaports to cruise ships for the remainder of 2020. On July 7, town councilors voted to ban cruise ships after ACL-American Cruise Lines announced its plan to resume coastal voyages with some itineraries visiting several Maine coast towns.

In early-August 2021, the Town Council voted unanimously for the 65-year-old ferry terminal to be demolished, once there's money and a plan to replace it with a new facility. Most of the existing infrastructure (including the pier) will be demolished, to fulfill the contract with Bay Ferries. The decision was made following a workshop with the Harbor Committee in July, during which was also suggested building a new Marina (yacht-serving port facility).

• In late-July, the Canadian company announced plans to restart its fast-catamaran service (THE CAT ship) linking with Canada (Yarmouth) .
• The 1956-built old ferry terminal was originally designed to serve the Canadian ferryboat MV Bluenose (1977-built/1982-scrapped), so the current layout is obsolete. 
• The current terminal consists of 2 causeways, 2 piers/docks (north and south), 2 vehicle bridges (between both piers), and a dilapidated building.

A Super Fun Bar Harbor Cruise Port Itinerary (On Your Own)

During our unforgettable Canada and New England vacation, my friend Angie and I sailed into the breathtaking port of Bar Harbor, Maine, aboard a Holland America cruise. As our last stop, we couldn’t wait to explore all this charming destination had to offer— from exploring picturesque Acadia National Park to catching glimpses of celebrity homes. We crafted a meticulously planned itinerary that perfectly suited our desires. Here is the Bar Harbor cruise port itinerary we created that left us with perfect Maine memories.

First, Rent a Car

As we had arranged in advance, Angie and I were promptly picked up at the port by Enterprise rental cars. After a 30-minute drive, we arrived at the airport and collected our vehicle.

Although reaching our destination and completing the necessary paperwork took some time, the rental price was reasonable, and we were pleased to have control over our day’s itinerary.

With excellent fuel efficiency, the car proved cost-effective, resulting in a total price of $140, including refueling and the rental itself. While the roads were easily navigable, cellular service was intermittent in certain areas.

Seal Harbor

Located just 30 minutes from the Bar Harbor cruise port, we decided to take the scenic route toward Acadia National Park and explore the highly recommended areas. One such area is Seal Harbor, renowned for its stunning mansions and celebrity residences, including Martha Stewart .

Navigating through the winding roads of these charming neighborhoods can be a challenge when trying to find specific addresses of the homes you wish to see. Nonetheless, we strolled along, marveling at the magnificent multi-million dollar properties that dotted the landscape.

Venturing out to MDI (Mount Desert Island) is an absolute delight, as it is home to Bar Harbor and a cluster of upscale Maine towns. These towns are favored summer destinations for affluent socialites and boast impressive art galleries, exquisite dining options, and unique accommodation.

The charming city of Ellsworth, nestled on the way to Acadia National Park, offers a picturesque gateway filled with delightful attractions. There is plenty to enjoy, from museums to birding hotspots and the captivating Timber Tina’s  Great Maine Lumberjack Show  that runs throughout the summer. Take advantage of the incredible telephone museum, an intriguing dive into our communication history.

Among the charming towns, my favorite is  Northeast Harbor , reminiscent of serene hamlets in upstate New York. Its quaint village shops, captivating eateries, and an air of sophistication make it a playground for the affluent, including notable homeowners like the Rockefeller’s.

While exploring, visit Main Street Mercantile, a must-see shop brimming with souvenirs, glassware, household items, and delightful baby gifts. It’s truly a joy to uncover the hidden treasures of these enchanting small towns at your own pace.

Lunch at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound

Angie and I share a love for food, and we were thrilled to indulge in some delectable fresh Maine lobster. I’m confident that you’ll feel the same way. After receiving a local recommendation, we eagerly went to  Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound . This charming restaurant has been serving customers since 1956. 

Here, you’ll discover some of the finest lobsters in the world, sourced from Mount Desert Island and sold within hours of being caught. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!

For our meal, we both opted for a Lobster Roll accompanied by sides of coleslaw and potato salad. The rolls were perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside. What’s more, the rolls were generously filled with juicy lobster meat. A side of melted butter provided the ideal complement for dipping our lobster rolls, resulting in a truly divine bite.

Visit Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park, commonly known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, is the premier attraction in Bar Harbor. It is easily one of the key reasons the cruise ships tend to visit here on their  Canada and New England itineraries . Our  Holland America ship  featured some fantastic Acadia National Park trips, but we wanted to see several other things in the area, hence curating our own itinerary. 

Immerse yourself in the grandeur of this massive park, spanning across half of Mount Desert Island. Begin your exploration by traversing Park Loop Road’s winding 27 miles, where scenic overlooks and captivating photo opportunities await at every turnout.

Marvel at the breathtaking views the oceanside cliffs offer, granting you a splendid vantage point of the park’s pristine beauty. Encounter the serene beach setting of Thunder Hole and Sand Beach, starkly contrasting the lush, tree-covered mountains. The rhythmic force of the surf lapping against the rocky shore will surely mesmerize.

During our visit to Acadia National Park , we unfortunately couldn’t find the time to explore the renowned Jordan Pond House and its scenic trail or indulge in the famous popover restaurant. Instead, we decided to head to Frenchman Bay, where we captured breathtaking photos of the stunning beachfront and the majestic mountains in the background.

Keep an eye out for the picturesque Porcupine Islands, the charming mounds of land rising from the shimmering waters of Frenchman Bay .

Cadillac Mountain

The pinnacle of Acadia National Park awaits at Cadillac Mountain, its granite-topped peak towering at an elevation of 1532 feet. As the highest mountain along the North Atlantic seaboard, this awe-inspiring summit treats visitors to a panoramic 360-degree vista overlooking Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay, and the Cranberry Isles.

A close second in terms of natural beauty lies within Jordan Pond, an exquisite area framed by the majestic Penobscot Mountain and the iconic “The Bubbles.”

Watch for the wild blueberries that flourish in the area, adding a delightful touch to your journey. While witnessing the nation’s first sunrise may prove unlikely for cruising enthusiasts, Cadillac Mountain proudly holds this title. Trust me when I say the pictures depicting this remarkable spectacle are nothing short of magnificent.

Bass Harbor Head Light

Visiting Bass Harbor Head Light is a must for those passionate about lighthouses. Perched on the rugged granite shoreline of MDI, this historic beacon, dating back to 1855, stands as one of the most photographed lighthouses along the Eastern Seaboard.

While visitors can explore the impressive grounds, please note that the lighthouse is privately owned and not open for public entry.

Shop for Souvenirs in Bar Harbor

Downtown Bar Harbor, steps away from the cruise port, is the ultimate destination for all your souvenir needs. From unique and cheesy mementos to adorable and fantastic treasures, you’ll find practically every type of souvenir here. Spend your day leisurely browsing through the relaxed and fun offerings in this port.

Don’t miss out on visiting two must-see stores:  Cool as a Moose  and Fair Trade Winds. These stores are packed with goodies that will leave you spoiled for choice.

If you’re a jewelry enthusiast like myself, you’ll be thrilled to know that Maine is the source of the elusive watermelon tourmaline. The pieces available here are stunning. Additionally, upscale food products such as jams, jellies, sauces , syrups, and more are perfect for taking home as souvenirs.

No trip to this region of Maine would be complete without indulging in the flavors of blueberry. We highly recommend trying the blueberry soft-serve ice cream cone from CJ’s Big Dipper. Heavens to Betsy, it’s truly phenomenal!

As you stroll along the pedestrian-clad sidewalks and explore the immaculate stores, galleries, and wineries, it becomes evident why Bar Harbor has remained a beloved New England summer retreat for over a century.

Bar Harbor: A Visit to Remember

Upon completing our day tour, we returned the car to the airport. Angie and I were then chauffeured back to Bar Harbor, allowing us to explore the area near our cruise ship at our leisure. Opting for self-guided exploration in Bar Harbor proved to be an excellent decision. We avoided waiting for large groups to embark and disembark from buses, skipped unwanted destinations, and were not bound by rigid itineraries.

Bar Harbor is home to the largest parts of Acadia National Park, including Cadillac Mountain the highest point within 25 miles (40 km) of the coastline of the Eastern United States.

The Bar Harbor Whale Museum (West St facing the harbor). 10AM-8PM. The museum is devoted to whales and other sea creatures. There are many real skeletons (from stranded marine mammals) on display including a 28-foot long juvenile humpback whale. Other exhibits include climate change, bioacoustics, marine adaptations, and a brief history of whaling. Great for kids and adults.

The Island Explorer features eight bus routes linking hotels, inns, and campgrounds with destinations in Acadia National Park and neighboring village centers. Clean propane-powered vehicles offer Mount Desert Island visitors and residents free transportation to hiking trails, carriage roads, island beaches, and in-town shops and restaurants. There is no charge for this service. It does not provide commentary.

The second most visited National Park in the United States, Acadia National Park is open year round. Visitors can visit the visitor's center from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May through early October.

In Acadia National Park there are more than 120 miles of marked trails. There are 17 mountains to climb. The Carriage Road consists of over 50 miles of broken stone roads built by John Rockefeller, Jr. which he later donated to the park. There are 18 stone bridges in the park. The Park Loop Road is 27 miles long. You can get to Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain and Otter Cliffs on the Park Loop Road. In the park, you will find 20 lakes and ponds.

Acadia National Park also includes substantial tracts of land off Mount Desert Island. Fifty miles from Bar Harbor by road. Acadia preserves 2000 acres on the tip of Schoodic Peninsula, the only section of the park on the mainland. A one-way, six-mile loop road skirts the edge of the peninsula, bringing into view a rugged coastline offering sweeping panoramas of Mount Desert Island. Acadia also preserves another 2000 acres on Isle Au Haut, an offshore island linked to the mainland by a mail boat from Stonington.

2 crew members die during ‘incident’ on Holland America cruise ship

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Two crew members on a Holland America cruise ship died during an “incident” in the ship’s engineering space, the cruise line said.

The unidentified crew members died Friday while the Florida-based Nieuw Amsterdam was at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, Holland America said in a statement.

Authorities were notified and the cause of the accident is being investigated, the cruise line said. Crew members were being offered counseling.

“All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our team members’ families at this difficult time,” the statement said. “The safety, security and welfare of all guests and crew are the company’s absolute priority.”

The cruise line did not offer any further details about the crew members. It later said the Bahamas Maritime Authority was leading the investigation. The ship set sail out of Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a seven-night trip.

Pinnacle Grill

As Holland America's newest specialty restaurant, Morimoto By Sea opened on Nieuw Amsterdam in December 2023. Showcasing Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's talent and creativity, the menu includes everything from Hamachi tacos and vegetable curry to sushi and lobster pad Thai. Expect a $55 cover charge, and look for Morimoto By Sea pop-up experiences offered once per cruise on the fleet's other 10 ships in either Pinnacle Grill or Tamarind.

Is the food free?

Meals in the main dining room, Lido Market, New York Pizza and Dive In are included with your cruise fare. All other eateries have a la carte pricing (per item) or a cover charge. (Some specialty restaurants with a cover charge also feature specific menu options with additional a la carte fees.) Each specialty restaurant also adds an 18% service fee.

Do I need a reservation?

Dinner times in the dining room are at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Alternatively, you can arrive at any time between 5:15 and 9 p.m. to be seated at the first available table. You must select your preference for set-seating dining or anytime dining prior to your cruise.

Reservations are recommended for specialty restaurants and can be made prior to boarding (for best date/time choices) or once on board.

What dining options are available for kids?

Children are welcome in any of Holland America Line's dining venues. A special kids menu is available at each venue, including such fare as pizza, chicken strips, mac and cheese, salads and fresh fruit. Menu items from the daily menu are also available in half portions upon request. Children 12 or under pay half price in the specialty dining restaurants or can select items from the regular kids menu for free.

Is room service available?

Yes, 24-hour room service is included in your cruise fare, unless otherwise noted in the in-room menu.

Where does Holland America source its fish?

Holland America recently launched a Global Fresh Fish Program, an initiative that engages a global network of 60 ports to source and serve 80 types of fresh fish on board in all restaurants. This fish goes from port to plate in less than 48 hours. Additionally, Holland America was the first cruise line to serve 100% fresh, certified sustainable Alaska seafood on board its ships in Alaska.

Is there an all-inclusive package that includes specialty dining?

Specialty dining is featured as part of Holland America's Have it All package . Guests receive one night at Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto or Tamarind on six- to nine-night voyages, two nights on 10- to 20-night cruises and three nights on cruises of 21 nights or more (excludes Grand Voyages).

What if I have food allergies?

Guests with food intolerances or allergies that are not life-threatening should contact the Ship Services Department at 800-541-1576. Guests with life-threatening food allergies must provide detailed information to the Guest Accessibility Department by completing a Special Requirements Information Form . Passengers should indicate on this form which foods might cause a severe reaction.

Are there any other food-related offerings to know about?

Don't miss the Cake Me Away dessert celebration event in the Lido Market, which occurs once per seven-night cruise, and the Sea Food Boil pop-ups, which take place mainly on Alaska and Canada/New England itineraries.

Bar Harbor alternatives?

We've recently booked a trip ex Boston 29 July on the Zaandam. They advertise a stop at  Bar Harbor but I believe that port has recently banned ships bigger than 1000pax . 

Any talk of what the alternative port  will be. Or as its our last day before returning to Boston  do you think we will return a day earlier and spend the last night in Boston?

Interesting, but it is a combo of both pax and crew=1000.

I would think Portland will be on future itineraries.

Yes our cruise is much shorter than yours with mostly Canadian ports. You have several ports in Newfoundland, we only have Cornerbrook.

Just one more case of this disturbing trend (for cruisers) of ports trying to limit or ban cruise ships.  This is happening all over the world.  Why?  I think that folks are reacting to the larger capacities of ships and the disruption on the community.  Multiple studies have shown that cruisers do not contribute a lot of money to local economies (much less per person than a land-based tourist) and I think that the tendency of many cruisers to use large tour buses, travel in large groups (i.e. cruise line excursions) has been a "turn off" to locals around the world.  Since we live in a cruise port (Puerto Vallarta) and are also avid cruisers, we see this issue from both points of view.  When most ships carried less than 1000 passengers it was not such a big deal.  But now, with some ships carrying over 6000 it has become a major political issue in many communities.

I would check with Hal, I believe that the ship will still be able to stop at bar harbor.

On same cruise, so when I first saw this online did a little research. Like riffatsea said it does not affect us. According to the reports I read in local the papers around Bar Harbor the 2023 port schedule was finalized prior to the vote, so the ban is scheduled to take effect in 2024.

It looked like the cruise lines and local officials were working on mitigating the overcrowding issue, but not to the local's satisfaction hence the referendum.

Too many cruise passengers = more crowding + negative impact on residents + negative impact on visitors when the ships are in port + conversion of unique shops to those that set up shop in all of the busy cruise ports.

Princess Cruises: 7-Day Voyage of the Glaciers with Glacier Bay

Departure city: Vancouver, British Columbia

The 2024 cruise season brings Princess' 55th-anniversary sailing to The Great Land, and the line is offering more than 150 Alaska voyages between April and September. The popular Voyage of the Glaciers with Glacier Bay itinerary northbound from Vancouver to Anchorage (Whittier), Alaska , is available on dozens of dates this season on Grand Princess , Royal Princess or Sapphire Princess . The sailing includes stops in the ports of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, as well as scenic cruising in beautiful Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve and College Fjord in Alaska. If you prefer a smaller ship, choose Grand Princess or Sapphire Princess, which hold 2,610 and 2,680 passengers (double occupancy), respectively. Meanwhile, Royal Princess accommodates 3,560 guests at double occupancy.

The Princess Cruises North to Alaska program features immersive, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the history and traditions of the 49th state. Guests can sample fresh local seafood and meet famous Alaskans such as Libby Riddles, the first woman to win the 1,100-mile Iditarod dog race. In Skagway, families can meet some of the newest sled dogs and their handlers during Puppies in the Piazza on the ship. Younger cruisers and teens can participate in the Alaska Explorers Youth Program in partnership with Glacier Bay National Park and the Discovery Channel, which includes activities like the "Deadliest Catch" Crab Sort Challenge.

This seven-day round-trip voyage from Seattle is available on Norwegian Bliss from April to September during the line's 2024 Alaska season. The sailing includes the ports of Sitka, Juneau , Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan (Ward Cove), plus scenic cruising in Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier in Alaska. There's also an evening stop in Victoria, British Columbia , before disembarking in Seattle. Norwegian Bliss can carry 4,004 passengers at double occupancy and 4,266 passengers at maximum capacity.

The entire family will enjoy excursions like the Whale Watching & Bear Search tour in Icy Strait Point, while thrill-seekers of all ages will want to book an adrenaline-pumping ride down the mountain on the massive ZipRider zip line. In Ketchikan, take a hike through Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the U.S., where you might catch glimpses of wildlife like black bears or bald eagles. You can also head offshore from Ketchikan aboard the Aleutian Ballad, the famed ship from Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch," to pick up the day's bounty of king crab and search for marine wildlife along Alaska's Inside Passage.

Plenty of family activities and entertainment options are offered on this Norwegian Cruise Line ship, including the Bliss Speedway, a two-level racetrack at sea; laser tag; mini-golf; an interactive aqua park with waterslides that zip above the side of the ship; a video arcade; and live entertainment. You'll also find kids clubs designed for younger children and teens , as well as adults-only escapes like Vibe Beach Club and Spice H2O. When it comes to dining, there's no shortage of casual fare for hungry kids at venues like the Garden Café buffet, American Diner and The Local Bar & Grill.

Disney Cruise Line: 7-Night Alaskan Cruise from Vancouver

This seven-night itinerary aboard Disney Wonder departs round-trip from Vancouver on several voyages throughout the 2024 Alaska season, which runs from May to September. The weeklong Disney Cruise Line sailing includes glacier viewing along the Stikine Icecap and stops in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Plus, you'll enjoy plenty of Disney fun on board, with character meet-and-greets, Broadway-quality shows, and entertaining activities and venues for kids and adults alike.

Many of the ship's nautical-themed staterooms are designed with families in mind and feature a "split bath" concept and extra under-bed storage for suitcases. Disney Wonder can hold 1,750 passengers at double occupancy and 2,700 passengers at maximum capacity. The ship's unique rotational dining venues include an "under the sea" adventure at Triton's, a dinner show with Disney characters at Animator's Palate and Southern specialties with jazz music at Tiana's Place. For a night out sans kids, adults can savor a quiet evening with northern Italian cuisine at Palo or nosh on casual pub fare at Crown & Fin Pub. Holland America Line: 7-Day Alaska Inside Passage

Holland America's Koningsdam will sail the line's seven-day Inside Passage itinerary more than 20 times between April and September in 2024. This round-trip voyage embarks in Vancouver and includes multiple days of scenic cruising. You'll sail through the Inside Passage for two days; through Tracy Arm Inlet, where you can disembark for a shore excursion; and through Glacier Bay, where the Junior Ranger Program is a highlight for kids. The ports of call on this itinerary are Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan in Alaska.

Koningsdam features dedicated family staterooms with beds for up to five guests, two bathrooms and extra closet space. The ship carries 2,650 guests at double occupancy and 3,194 passengers at maximum capacity. A wildlife expert on the ship helps guests spot Alaska's incredible marine and land animals through announcements and during daily programs. Keep an eye out for humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, moose, brown bears and other wildlife. While in the Tracy Arm Wilderness Area, you'll want to take the Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer excursion to explore glacier-covered mountains, jagged cliffs and the largest temperate rainforest in the U.S. surrounding the fjord. Royal Caribbean International: 7 Night Alaska Adventure Cruise

Hop aboard Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas for the seven-night Alaska Adventure Cruise, sailing round-trip from Seattle . This itinerary is available on several dates between May and August 2024 and features stops in the towns of Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, plus scenic cruising in Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier in Alaska. There's also an afternoon call in the Canadian city of Victoria. While there, book an off-roading excursion through the coastal rainforest that includes a zip line adventure. Or, take a self-guided tour through Victoria's famed Butchart Gardens and the tropical Butterfly Gardens filled with wildlife.

Quantum of the Seas – which holds 4,180 passengers at double occupancy and 4,905 passengers at maximum capacity – is one of the two larger Royal Caribbean ships sailing in Alaska in 2024 (Ovation of the Seas is the other). As such, it offers abundant activities and entertainment for families at sea. On board, guests can experience Ripcord by iFly (the only skydiving simulator at sea) and take in snow-capped mountain views from the FlowRider surf simulator or atop the ship's rock climbing wall. Other onboard activities include bumper cars, an escape room, an arcade, pickleball and The Silent Party (a dance party where everyone wears headphones).

At mealtime, kids will have plenty of choices for casual and quick bites, from carefully crafted hot dogs at the Dog House and specialty pies at Sorrento's Pizza to around-the-clock snacks at Café Promenade and grab-and-go fare at The Café@Two70. When the little ones want to play or chill out with kids their age, Adventure Ocean offers activities for children 3 to 12 years old. Carnival Cruise Line: 7-Day Alaska from Seattle, WA

Carnival's 2024 Alaska season runs from May to September, with the 7-Day Alaska from Seattle itinerary available every month during that time. The round-trip sailing aboard Carnival Luminosa stops in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan, Alaska, as well as Victoria, British Columbia. You'll enjoy scenic cruising in Victoria and through Tracy Arm Fjord. You'll also have one "fun day at sea" to check out the activities and entertainment on the ship, which offers a double occupancy capacity of 2,260 passengers and a maximum capacity of 2,826 passengers.

Younger sailors ages 2 to 11 can join in on ocean-themed games, songs and programming at Camp Ocean, while tweens and teens (ages 12 to 17) can participate in destination-focused activities at See the World. Club 02 is a designated space for guests ages 15 to 17 to watch movies, play sports and video games, and more. Families can enjoy Dive-In Movies together at Carnival Seaside Theater and watch live musical productions at Playlist Productions. When it comes to dining on Carnival , families will have a choice of several casual restaurants to satisfy finicky eaters, including Pizzeria del Capitano, The Carnival Deli, Lido Marketplace and Swirls for soft serve ice cream. When going ashore, Juneau offers many family-friendly excursions – some of which you may not have the chance to experience anywhere else in the world. The Taku Lodge Feast & 5-Glacier Seaplane Discovery takes guests airborne by bush plane over the five glaciers in the Juneau Icefield. After the ride, you'll land in the Taku River at the historic Taku Lodge, which sits across from Juneau's largest glacier, the Taku Glacier. At the lodge, you'll feast on a bountiful meal featuring homemade side dishes and one of the best-known local seafood specialties, Alaska king salmon.

Celebrity Cruises: 7 Nights Alaska Hubbard Glacier

Celebrity's seven-night Alaska Hubbard Glacier itinerary is available on nine voyages between May and September 2024. The Celebrity Solstice (which holds 2,852 guests at double occupancy) sails round-trip from Vancouver and stops in the ports of Icy Strait Point, Juneau and Ketchikan in Alaska. You'll have two days of scenic cruising in the Inside Passage and around Hubbard Glacier. While in Icy Strait Point, book a guided nature walk excursion along the "Trail of the Bears" in the bush country of the Spasski River Valley. UnCruise Adventures: Glacier Bay Adventure Cruise

If you prefer a small-ship cruise experience without the bells and whistles of some larger vessels, UnCruise offers adventure-style cruises to Alaska on its fleet of safari- and expedition-style ships. With these intimate cruises, you and the kids (ages 8 and older) can get up close to glaciers, wildlife and Alaska's vast wilderness directly from the ship via Zodiacs and kayaks. You may even see wildlife from a short distance away along the shoreline, as UnCruise vessels are able to sail into smaller waterways that are inaccessible to larger ships.

The line's Glacier Bay Adventure Cruise features two full days in pristine Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve aboard the Wilderness Discoverer, which holds a maximum of 76 passengers. Here, guests can hike along remote coastlines amid old-growth forests, view sea life up close and go birding at South Marble Island.
