Pratapgad fort trek is 150 Km and 225 Kms south of Pune & Mumbai respectively. Known for the battle of pratapgad, located in Satara district near Mahabaleshwar, Pratapgad fort is a popular tourist destination as a weekend gateway from Pune mainly. Pratapgarh is a small village located in the Western Ghats in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India.

How to reach Pratapgad fort?

Distance from Pune: 150 Kms Distance from Mumbai: 225 Kms

Driving to Pratapgad fort:

Just search on google maps for ‘ Pratapgad Parking, Pratapgad, Maharashtra’ and Google maps will show you a road until the base of the Pratapgad fort. There is a big parking space there and usually crowded on the weekends. The road ends at the base of the fort.

• Best time to trek: Winter (September to March)
• Height: 3543 feet.
• Number of steps: 450
• Difficulty level: Easy
• Time to trek: Almost two hours

There is not much of trekking here. There are 450 steps from the base of the fort to the top. It depends upon the stamina of a person in reaching the top. Take plenty of water. At the parking lot, you can find water and snacks.

Camping on Pratapgad fort:

You can camp at the top. Carry your own tents on the weekends as the temple on the top will usually be crowded and there would be much space left for sleeping inside the temple. So its a better idea to pitch your tent at the top.

Pratapgad fort History:

The main purpose of construction of the Pratapgad fort was to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers, and to defend the Par pass by Shivaji. Construction of the fort was completed in 1656. Pratapgad is famous for the famous Battle of Pratapgarh. This battle was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan. During British era, Pratapgad fort also witnesses the Third Anglo-Maratha War in 1818.

However, Pratapgad had to surrender and that was a great setback to the Maratha forces, as Pratapgad was an important stronghold, had a large garrison. Revering the valour of the warrior Shivaji, a 17-foot high equestrian bronze statue of Shivaji was unveiled by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India in 1957. This statue of Shivaji can still be seen while climbing to the Pratapgad at the beginning. The fort is currently owned by Uday Raje Bhosale, the heir of the Satara princely state.

History : This fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 16th century. The construction was completed in 1656 and it was primarily built to defend the river banks of Nira and Koyna river. One of the greatest battles, The Battle of Pratapgad was fought here between Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan. The fort is currently owned by Udayan Rajebhosale, who is the 13th descendant of Shivaji Maharaj.

Routes : For visitors from Pune, I hope you all must be aware of the route to Mahabaleshwar. From Mahabaleshwar, Pratapgarh is just 24 kms away. The roads are pretty good and the locals can guide you for the route from Mahabaleswar. And these days, with GPS devices that are so handy, I think finding the route should not be a problem. Just ensure that you search for Wada village which is the base village where your vehicles can be parked.

Difficulty and other useful Tips : This is a relatively easy trek. There are just 450 steps which you would need to cover to get to the top of the fort. The trek is not at all difficult and even novice trekkers should be able to complete it with ease. One piece of advice that I would like to give is that, everone should carry atleast 2-3 litres of water.

Camping / Accomodation:  For camping I would recommend that you take tents as there is no natural shelter on the fort. You can camp in the Mahadev temple on the fort, but if you are visiting on a weekend, you may find it full. Take plenty of water and food along with you for a night stay. The locals can help you with firewood that you may need for a bonfire or making a quick maggi. If you are not fond of camping, you can find an accomodation easily at Mahabaleshwar. There are plenty of hotels and resorts where you can stay if you are visting from a far away place.

The Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj assigned Moropant Trimbak Pingle, his prime minister, to undertake the construction of this fort in order to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers, and to defend the Par pass. Pratapgad fort Trek, Mahabaleshwar Overview

Pratapgad is a hill fort in Maharashtra. Situated close to the famous hill station of Mahabaleshwar in the district of Satara, the citadel rises to an elevation of about 3500 feet from the ground.

Much of the fortifications are still intact, and the fort is a popular tourist destination. There are four lakes within the fort, many of which overflow during the monsoons. There is a watchtower just beside the Mahadarwaza, or the main entrance, at the end of the motorable road. There is a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in his full glory, which was installed about 60 years ago. There is a Bhawani temple at the top of the fort, and a cultural library showcasing the heritage of the fort. There is a handicrafts centre en route to Pratapgad from the base village, which draws a lot of tourists.

If you are looking for a place that combines history, culture, and nature, then Pratapgad Fort is the perfect destination for you. Pratapgad Fort is a hill fort in Maharashtra, India, that was built by the legendary Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj in 1656. It is the site of the famous Battle of Pratapgad between Shivaji Maharaj and the Adilshahi general Afzalkhan in 1659, which is considered a turning point in Indian history. Pratapgad Fort is also a place of great significance for Hinduism and Indian culture, as it showcases the valor, wisdom, and devotion of Shivaji Maharaj and his followers.

History and Significance of Pratapgad Fort

Before construction.

Pratapgad Fort was originally a small fort called Bhorpya, which was owned by the Adilshahi Sultanate of Bijapur. The Adilshahis were one of the major powers in the Deccan region of India, along with the Mughals and the Marathas. The Marathas were a warrior clan that rose to prominence under the leadership of Shivaji Maharaj, who challenged the authority of both the Adilshahis and the Mughals.

Shivaji Maharaj wanted to expand his territory and secure his borders from the attacks of his enemies. He realized that Bhorpya was strategically located on a hill that overlooked the Par pass, which connected the coastal Konkan region with the inland Deccan plateau. He decided to capture Bhorpya and build a bigger fort on it to control the pass and protect his kingdom.

Construction

Shivaji Maharaj captured Bhorpya in 1656 with the help of his commander Moropant Pingale. He then entrusted the task of building a new fort on it to his prime minister Hiroji Indulkar. The construction of the new fort took about two years and cost about 1 5 lakhs rupees (about $200,000 in today’s value). The new fort was named Pratapgad, which means “the fort of valor”.

Pratapgad Fort was designed as a strong and durable structure that could withstand any attack. It had two parts: the upper fort and the lower fort. The upper fort was built on the top of the hill and had several buildings such as palaces, temples, storerooms, and watchtowers. The lower fort was built on the slope of the hill and had several bastions, walls, gates, and cannons. The fort also had a secret escape route that led to a nearby village called Kumbharghar.

Battle of Pratapgad

The most important event in the history of Pratapgad Fort was the Battle of Pratapgad that took place on November 10, 1659 . This battle was fought between Shivaji Maharaj and Afzalkhan, who was sent by Ali Adil Shah II, the ruler of Bijapur, to capture or kill Shivaji Maharaj.

Afzalkhan was a powerful and experienced general who had conquered many forts and territories in his career. He had a large army of about 10,000 soldiers, including cavalry, infantry, artillery, and elephants. He also had a personal bodyguard of about 1,500 African slaves called Siddis.

Shivaji Maharaj had a smaller army of about 6,000 soldiers , mostly infantry. He also had about 300 cavalrymen led by his trusted commander Tanaji Malusare. He knew that he could not defeat Afzalkhan in an open battle, so he devised a clever plan to lure him into a trap.

Shivaji Maharaj sent a message to Afzalkhan, pretending to be afraid of him and willing to surrender. He invited Afzalkhan to meet him at the foothills of Pratapgad Fort, where he would hand over the keys of the fort and pay tribute. Afzalkhan agreed to meet Shivaji Maharaj, thinking that he had won the war without a fight.

However, Shivaji Maharaj had prepared a secret ambush for Afzalkhan. He had hidden his soldiers in the forests and hills around the meeting place. He also had a small group of soldiers with him, disguised as attendants. He wore a metal armor under his clothes and carried a concealed dagger called a wagh nakh (tiger claw).

When Afzalkhan arrived at the meeting place, he was accompanied by his bodyguards and a few officers. He was also wearing a metal armor under his clothes and carried a sword. He greeted Shivaji Maharaj with a hug, as per the custom. However, as he hugged him, he tried to stab him in the back with his sword. Shivaji Maharaj sensed his treachery and quickly pulled out his wagh nakh and slashed Afzalkhan’s stomach. Afzalkhan fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.

Shivaji Maharaj then signaled his soldiers to attack Afzalkhan’s army. The battle that ensued was fierce and bloody. Afzalkhan’s army was caught off guard and outnumbered by Shivaji Maharaj’s army. Many of them were killed or wounded in the first wave of attack. The rest of them fled in panic and confusion.

Shivaji Maharaj emerged victorious from the battle, having killed Afzalkhan and routed his army. He also captured many weapons, horses, elephants, and treasures from Afzalkhan’s camp. He then returned to Pratapgad Fort and celebrated his victory with his soldiers and subjects.

The Battle of Pratapgad was a landmark event in Indian history, as it marked the rise of Shivaji Maharaj as a powerful and independent ruler in the Deccan region. It also marked the decline of the Adilshahi Sultanate, which eventually fell to the Mughals in 1686. By Rail: The nearest railway station to Mahabaleshwar is Satara, which is about 55 km away. You can take a train from Pune, Mumbai, or Kolhapur to Satara and then take a bus or taxi to Mahabaleshwar.

Once you reach Mahabaleshwar, you have two options to reach Pratapgad Fort:

By Bus: You can take a state-run or private bus from Mahabaleshwar to Pratapgad Fort. The bus fare is about Rs. 50 per person and the journey takes about an hour. The buses are available from 8 am to 6 pm and depart every 30 minutes from the Mahabaleshwar bus stand. The bus will drop you at the base of the fort, from where you have to climb about 500 steps to reach the entrance of the fort.

By Car: You can also drive your own car or hire a taxi from Mahabaleshwar to Pratapgad Fort. The road is well-maintained and scenic, passing through the lush green valleys and forests of the Western Ghats. The car fare is about Rs. 1000 for a round trip and the journey takes about 45 minutes. You can park your car at the base of the fort, from where you have to climb about 500 steps to reach the entrance of the fort.

Pratapgad Fort is open for visitors from 10 am to 6 pm every day. The entry fee is Rs. 25 per person for Indians and Rs. 300 per person for foreigners. You can also hire a guide for Rs. 200 per hour, who will explain the history and significance of the fort and its attractions.

Trek Routes

If you are feeling adventurous, you can also trek to Pratapgad Fort from different points. There are three main trek routes to Pratapgad Fort:

Pratapgad Fort Pratapgad (also transcribed Pratapgarh or Pratapgad) literally ‘Valour Fort is a large fort located in Satara district, in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. Significant as the site of the Battle of Pratapgad, the fort is now a popular tourist destination. This is a relatively easy trek. There are just 450 steps you would need to cover to get to the top of the fort. The trek is not challenging and even novice trekkers should be able to complete it easily.

A bridge from the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

One the route one can see the old bridge on river Koyna made with interlocking stones. One side of the bridge has a plane facade while the other side has a pointed facade to cut the water flow and minimize the damage due to strong water flow.

It is said that the bridge is from the 17th century and was built during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj era.

Radtondi Ghat

Radtondi Ghat is known for Afzal Khan’s descent from the Deccan plateau to Konkan on the way to the mighty “Pratapgad”.

Radtondi Ghat starts at village Met-Tale and ends at village Par. Once the route was a well-developed route at the time when it was under use. Big pathway, gravel and clay as pavement, jungle to provide shade and gradual slope, in and all a nicely constructed route.

The pathway was so wide that at least 4 horses or 4 bulls or 2 bullock carts could pass each other at one time, leaving no room for doubt that Afzal Khan could descend this route sitting in a palanquin.

Day 1 Par-Radtondi Ghatwat Trek

04:00 – 05:00 We arrive at the base of Pratapgad fort. You can rest for an hour.

05:00 – 07:00 You can get freshen up yourself here. (Toilets are available.) Have breakfast & tea.

07:00 – 09:00 Our field experts will provide pre-trek information and instructions to all participants. Visit & Explore the “Pratapgad Fort”.

09:00 – 10:30 Now we will start our trek towards the Par village. You can visit one of the ancient temples, “Shri Ramvardayini”.

10:30 – 12:30 Resume trek journey to Radtondi Ghat. In between, you can witness the bridge built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

12:30 – 15:00 Climb to Radtondi Ghat through the dense forest of Jaoli. We reach Mahabaleshwar Sunset / Bombay Point. Our trek ends here.

16:00 Drive to Wai & let’s have a meal together near Wai Ganpati Mandir. Served hot and tasty local vegetarian food. (Toilets are not available.)

17:30 – 20:30 Start the journey back to Pune with very pleasant memories and non-biodegradable garbage.

At a distance of 20 km from Mahabaleshwar, 140 km from Pune & 221 km from Mumbai, Pratapgad, also known as Pratapgarh, is a large hill fort located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is one of the best heritage places to visit near Mumbai , and among the popular attractions not to miss as part of Mahabaleshwar packages . The fort lies at an altitude of 1080 m and is built on a spur that overlooks the road between the villages of Par and Kinesvar. Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj had commissioned Moropant Pingle, his prime minister, to commence the construction of this fort to defend Nira and the Koyna River banks, and also to guard the Par pass. It is one of the most scenic places to visit in Mahabaleshwar . The construction of the fortress was completed in the year 1656. The fort stands as the witness of the historic Battle of Pratapgarh between Shivaji and Afzal Khan, the commander of the Bijapur Sultanate, on 10th November 1659. In 1818, the Maratha forces had to surrender the Pratapgad Fort after losing the third Anglo-Maratha War. After the Battle of Pratapgad, the Afzal tower was constructed outside the fort as a lookout for enemies. It is said that Afzal Khan's head is buried under the Afzal tower which is also known as Afzal Buruj. Afzal Khan's tomb is situated to the northwest of Afzal Buruj. The fort is divided into two parts, the lower fort, and the upper fort. The upper fort was built upon the crest of the hill. It is roughly square, 180 m long on each side. The upper fort comprises several buildings, including a Mahadev Temple. The lower fort situated at the southeast end of the fort is defended by tall towers and strongholds which are 10-12 m high. The lower fort is around 320 m long and 110 m wide. It houses Bhavani Temple on the eastern side. It is believed that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja was blessed with a shining sword at this temple. A 17 feet tall bronze figure of Shivaji was erected and unveiled by Jawaharlal Nehru, on 30th November 1957 to commemorate and pay homage to Shivaji Maharaj. Today this fort has become a famous tourist spot near Mahabaleshwar as it is still in fairly good condition. There is a motorable road up to the entrance of the fort. Visitors have to explore the fort by walk/trek (around 1 km ). Inside the fort, there are small eateries for food and a rest house available for tourists. Pratapgad fort is in the Satara district of Maharashtra, India. While I had not heard about this fort before, it is a popular destination for anyone who is visiting Mahableshwar or Panchgani, both of which are popular hill stations in Maharashtra.

Since we were in the vicinity we decided to head out and see the Pratapgad fort. In retrospect I’m glad that we made the decision. We spent a relatively quiet day exploring the intriguing structure. When I say quiet, I’m referring to the part when we escaped the crowds.

Plus, there is nothing like scaling up to the peaks of the western ghats to take in the view. Till date, I will always say that Maharashtra has some of the best forts in the country. Then again, I may be biased. I spent over eight years in the state.

It even has a fitness center, a pool and 2 restaurants that you can pick from.

The rooms have everything you could possibly need. From a flat screen tv to a bathroom with all the amenities. Plus if you don’t feel like heading out to explore the area, you can just spend the day wandering around the complex itself.

Getting To Pratapgad Fort

Pratapgad fort is a drive away from Mahableshwar. If you have a vehicle then getting there is no problem at all. If you don’t then most of the hotels/accommodations provide transport to the different sights around for a fee.

We were on a road trip, so we decided that it made the best sense to take our own vehicle and we were so glad that we did. Keep in mind that you must pay a fee when you enter the National Park. Make sure you keep the receipts safe or you will have to pay the fee again.

The History Behind Pratapgad Fort

Pratapgad fort was built by a famous Indian king called Shivaji. It was built to defend three parts of his kingdom: the Parr pass and the banks of river Nira and Koyna. Pratapgad fort was completed in 1656. There is a small museum and a documentary which tells you about the structure and the history of fort.

The documentary is in the local language i.e. Marathi. Luckily for us we could speak and understand the language. The museum holds some old artefacts including the vessels and religious articles belonging to that time.

What Is Special About Pratapgad Fort?

Pratapgad fort is iconic because it was the fort at which a major battle was fought. If you literally translate the name of the fort, it means ‘Fort of Valor’. When Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (king) built the fort in 1656, he was still a young king.

However, his decision was a wise one because just 3 years later in Afzal Khan tried to take over his territory. The battle was fought and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj won. In fact, this battle gave rise to the Maratha empire.

Pratapgad Fort Timings

Pratapgad fort is open every day from 6 am to 7 pm. It is highly recommended to visit either early morning or later in the evening because you can avoid the crowds. Generally speaking the climate is mild and not too hot because it is in the hill stations. It can get pretty wet in the monsoons.

The Lower Fort

The fort is divided into the lower fort and the upper fort. The lower fort doesn’t require much leg work (read climbing). The large archway welcomes you into Pratapgad fort.

A number of vendors selling local produce will pitch their wares as you pass them by. We bought a few fruits and they were delicious. A few monkeys may even try to take your belongings away, so it is wise to be vigilant.

The lower fort extends straight ahead and gives you a view into the valley below. There are a couple of cool places to click a few photographs. A lot of people just stop here and carry on because they have many places on their checklist to cover. We however wanted to explore so we headed on towards the upper fort.

The path towards the Upper fort is well defined. Vendors selling different local drinks have their stalls at different parts of the way.

Since we were very thirsty we stopped for a glass of chaas/taak. It is a yogurt based drink that is popularly known as buttermilk in India. Unlike yogurt the consistency is thin and more liquid. It is drunk on hot days and is said to help prevent dehydration. We love it and it was refreshing. It is one of the best street food in India.

At the top of the fort we decided to take the path less trodden and had a little adventure of our own. We followed the fort wall all round. In some places the path did get a bit tricky. We had to push through shrubs and bushes, but it was so much fun. Once the sun started to get to hot to handle, we headed back to the old path.

Lunch At Pratapgad Fort

Lunch at Pratapgad fort was a simple and delicious.

Lunch at Pratapgad fort was a simple affair that I enjoyed immensely. We sat on the ground and enjoyed lunch sitting cross-legged on the floor. It was something that I hadn’t done for a long time.

Food was a simple meal of ‘bakhri’ (unleavened bread) and a vegetable. It was homemade food and served with love. Ingredients that make any meal special.

It is quite easy to miss the temple in Pratapgad fort. I was on the look out for a toilet when I stumbled past it. There is a small handicraft museum next to it too. We did not have much time to explore as we had other things that we wanted to see and explore. There are some guides who do explain what the temple symbolizes.

Our road trip through Maharashtra was all about winging it. Visiting Pratapgad fort was a spur of the moment decision and I am so glad that we did. It was an enriching experience. We took our time to explore which made it so special too us.

Would we go there again? I would like but we probably would not. Largely because there are so many other forts to explore in Maharashtra!!

• Mahabaleshwar Temple 

The Mahabaleshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The idol here believed to be Swaymbhu, and its spiritual significance is even higher than the 12 Jyotirligams. There are old articles like Damru, Trishul, and Rudraksha kept here. Believed that Lord Shiva still visits the temple and plays the Damru. The temple's architecture belongs to the 16th century. And the architectural style is from Chanda More Rao dynasty.

2. Panchaganga Temple The Panchaganga Temple in Mahabaleshwar is more than 4500 years old. Panchaganga is a famous sacred spot near the Mahabaleshwar temple. The temple located at a place where seven rivers originate. They are the Krishna, Koyna, Gayatri, Savitri, Venna, Saraswati and Bhagirathi. Out of these first five flow continuously. And Saraswati is said to flow after 60 years, while, Bhagirathi is said to flow after 12 years.

Five rivers flow through the temple is the reason for the name Panchaganga, Pancha means five and Ganga says holy rivers. There are two kundas here; water baths carved out of a stone. Water from these five rivers flows through the mouth of a stone carved in the shape of a cow. Out of them, one Kunda barred off for tourists. The second one is open, and you can wash your feet here.

3 Atibaleshwar Temple Atibaleshwar Temple near Mahabaleshwar temple at Old Mahabaleshwar. It's an ancient temple. There is a mythological story behind the name Mahabaleshwar as well as Atibaleshwar temple. Locals Believed that there were two devils, namely Mahabal and Atibal. They were evil. To get rid of them, Hindu Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh were prayed. So Lord Vishnu killed Atibaleshwar. But Lord Shiva could not kill Mahabal as he was having the boon of death at will that is Ichamrityu. So Lord Brahma called Mahamaya, who allured him of love and enticed him to die. Mahabal agreed to die but prayed to the Gods that they should stay at that place by the name Atibal and Mahabal so that their names would demons become immortal. Mahabal died, and Vishnu stayed here as Atibaleshwar, Shiva stayed here in the form of Mahabaleshwar, and Brahma as Koteshwar. Name of the city Mahabaleshwar has also originated from Mahabal.

4 Krishnai Temple A little farther from Mahabaleshwar temple and Panchaganga temple is this popular sacred spot. Krishnai Temple is the source of the Krishna river. The temple built in 1888 and it is on a hill near Panchagana Temple. Behind the Panchaganga Temple is a trail that is well marked but less frequented by the tourists. The temple is old and isolated. But the views of the Krishna River are the most amazing. Krishnai Temple by the ruler of Ratnagiri and is on the hill that overlooks the Krishna valley.

Best time to visit Mahabaleshwar

1. Ride a Shikara in Venna Lake - The Venna Lake is a beautiful Lake in Mahabaleshwar that is surrounded by hills on all the sides. It is accessible by road, by car. It is a popular tourist spot. You can take a ride on the Lake. The Lake resembles the Dal Lake from Kashmir .

2. Trekking at Vasota - The Vasota fort situated near the backwaters of Tapola, in Mahabaleshwar. Vasota fort established inside the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. Nageshwar caves and Vasota trek a popular spot among trekkers and mountaineers. The views of the hills are amazing. Vasota Fort is in ruins, but the jungle trek is well worth it. 

Vasota Fort Trek starting point can only be reached by a boat from Saputara village or Bamnoli Village. The boat ride will take more than one hour on the Shiv Sagar Lake. Vasota Fort Camping is not allowed. Trekkers need to buy forest entry permits from the forest department to visit the fort. It will take you two hours to complete the trek one way. Trek route is open from Sunrise to Sunset all trekkers have to return to their boats before sunset. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj renamed this fortress " Vyaghragad " Vyaghra – means tiger, owing to its potent natural defence.

3. Walkthrough historical caves at Rajapuri - The Rajapuri Caves are ancient carved caves in Mahabaleshwar. They are also called Kartikeya Caves, due to the temple of Lord Kartik inside. It is a beautiful set of interconnected caves with a water reservoir beside the caves. 

4. Lingmala Waterfalls - The Lingmala Waterfalls in Mahabaleshwar is the best waterfall. The waterfall runs in the monsoon that is Jun to Sept. There is a small bungalow near the Lingmala Waterfalls. The waterfalls are almost 600 feet high. Lingmala Waterfall cascades with full force. It is a beautiful place to have a dip here in the monsoon. 

5. Rock Climbing - With numerous mountains and rock faces, Mahabaleshwar is the best place for rock climbing. Many mountaineers attempt rock climbing in Mahabaleshwar. If that is your thing too, then you are up for some crazy adventures here.

6. Horse Riding - Mahabaleshwar has many places where you can attempt horse riding. You should hire a horse rider with his horses and go for a ride here in the mountains. You can also plan to visit all the points while horse riding here. Horses are available from popular spots like Old Mahabaleshwar, Venna Lake, Panchgani Table Land.

7. Shop at Town Bazar - Mahabaleshwar has a vast market which is full of artefacts, handmade items, woollen clothes, gambling machines, restaurants, gift shops.  2. Venna Lake - The Venna Lake is the most stunning Lake in Mahabaleshwar that is surrounded by hills on all the sides. You can enjoy a boat ride in the Lake and horse ride around the Lake. Venna Lake was constructed in 1942 by Raja of Satara. It has the appearance of Himalayan Lakes. Mahabaleshwar golf course located on the other end of the Venna Lake. Hanuman temple visit is an excellent break while boating on the Venna Lake.   

3. Pratap Singh Park - The Pratap Singh Park a lovely park in Mahabaleshwar by the Venna Lake. The park located beside the Venna Lake. There is an area available for the kids. There are many flowers of different species in this garden. Many trees planted around and it is a well-maintained park. It is refreshing to have a walk around and watching the Shikara on the Lake. Horse riding is available here.

4. Babington point -  The Babington   point offers the most magnificent views of the countryside. It is located high in the hills. Babington point views span over the valley. You can sit here for hours, and you won't get bored. In the monsoon, you may see some waterfalls in the distant valleys. The clouds come down low, and it is gorgeous to watch nature playing around here.

5. Arthur Seat point - The Arthur Seat Point, which famous as a sunset point in Mahabaleshwar. It provides breathtaking views over the valley, mountains and rivers. Arthur seat located at 1470 meters high. And it is a must-visit point in Mahabaleshwar. There is a ramp which is suspended into the valley and supported by some poles, and This leads you further into the marvellous nature that is available here. Locals popularly call it as Queen of all points in Mahabaleshwar.

6. Tiger Spring - Nature is marvellous at this point, and spring comes out of the earth here. The water is pure, cold and pristine. Famous as tigers would come here to drink this water some years ago. There is a ramp where you can walk towards the spring. Tiger Spring is the place where you will feel the nature's wonders. You can have a picnic lunch with you can sit here for the most exciting lunch.

7. Wilson Point Sunrise Point - The   Wilson Point in Mahabaleshwar is the best place to watch the sunrise. The route to this point goes through the forest. The sun comes up from the mountains here, and it is best to reach here early. People come here for jogging or watching the sunrise or taking early morning photos.

8. Sydney Point - The Sydney point in Mahabaleshwar is precisely the point you need to go for that view. Sydney Point place is adjacent to the Krishna Valley. Krishna river flows below and glitters blue, Dhom Lake is a beautiful sight. In the monsoon, it is especially attractive because of the numerous little waterfalls that fall around. And the clouds that come low into the valley.

Pratapgad Fort

Pratapgad Fort is a popular tourist spot in Mahabaleshwar,  Pratapgad  located near the city of Mahabaleshwar. Pratap means Valor and gad means fort. The fort has a rich history with many battles fought. Due to the geographic location that made the fort very important to the rulers. It was always engaged in politics and military tactics and campaigns.

Pratapgad built on a hill that overlooks an important ancient trade route between the villages - Par and Kinesvar.  Pratapgad Fort  views in this valley are mind-blowing. It usually takes one day to visit here from Mahabaleshwar.

Pratapgad  fort divided into two parts upper and lower part and guarded by tall towers that are 10-12 meters high. There is one tower named Afzal tower. Afzal Khan's body is buried under this tower to signify victory. There is a museum atop the fort and also a shop selling some antique handmade items.

Pratapgad Fort History

Pratapgad has a long history, and it includes some gruesome battles. Due to its strategic positioning, the Fort of Pratapgad has always been in campaigns and politics. The Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had ordered to build this fort to have control over the mountain Par of pass and rivers Koyna and Nir. The battle between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan at Pratapgad is a very well-known folklore among the people in Maharashtra. It was the first significant test of the Marathas, and it also set the scaffold of the Maratha Empire. A huge statute of Chp Shivaji Maharaj erected here, unveiled by our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
