We had an amazing time with the tour planned in Malta. Julia was our guide for most the time with Jonathan as our driver. Our last tour guide was Dennis. Julia was so Informed and clearly inspired to share her wealth of knowledge of Valletta and Malta. She left no stone unturned. She was kind, funny, accepting of our physical restrictions, always on time, and very courteous, “Sir” Jonathan was a terrific driver and even volunteered to help us out the day after our stay. Always prompt, VERY safe driver and funny. Dennis was also terrific for the one day we had him instilling humor and knowledge with his tour. Omar was our initial arranger and he communicated quickly with every question I had. Nothing was ever left undone or not answered. Hotel arrangements went without a hitch as well as all our planned days. He even made concessions to make sure we had a ride to the other hotel and the airport with Jonathan even after our initial tour. Malta and Gozo Private 8 Days Tour

Overall good. Choice of hotels was great. I liked that there was some free time. Staff was attentive. Ease of booking was good. However, when I had trouble accessing insurance portal I did not receive a response for some time and had to request a list of hotels as that was not provided even the week before the trip. Better communication would be good. As to tour guide, at times he seemed more intent on showing us what he wanted us to see as opposed to letting us linger when we clearly wanted to do so. It was a private tour with only 2 people so this was not an inconvenience to anyone and we were always done by 3 or so in the afternoon.

Our guide, Dennis, was knowledgeable about many things and was accommodating to our needs, as well as having a good sense of humour. The drivers, Jonathan and Jason, were very professional. This was a very interesting and informative tour, and I'd definitely recommend it as a great way to learn a lot about Malta in a short time.

Malta is pretty average across Western European cities. If you’re comparing it to the likes of London, Paris, and Geneva, it’s more affordable than the major cities. The costs seem pretty similar to Spain and Italy, but compared to Eastern Europe, it’s fairly expensive.

Summer months are going to be more expensive than off-season or even winter months, so it may be worth it to consider going in the cooler months to get a better deal. While it may be a bit too chilly to swim in the water, winter averages are often in the upper 50s to low 60s.

What is the weather like in Malta?

Overall, the weather in Malta is pretty ideal year-round. Winter averages in the low 60s, with spring and fall averaging 70 degrees. Summer is pretty hot, but you’re on an island! Cool down from the summer highs of around 90 degrees by taking a dip in the Mediterranean .

Summer boasts hot sunny days. Winter brings lots of rainy days. Late Spring and Early fall bring enough sunny days and warm enough sea temperature for comfortable swimming.

Best time to go to Malta

The best time to go to Malta is easily the summer. There are many outdoor activities, great beach time, and plenty of water activities. The water is warm, everything is open (some activities shut down in the winter due to weather and lack of visitors). This brings a lot of visitors. If you’re trying to still soak in the great weather but don’t want to deal with as many people, consider a trip in May or October.

Things are opening up for peak season (or getting ready to shut down in the fall), weather is still sunny and pleasant, and you get better prices than summer. If you aren’t requiring water activity, April and early November are still ideal times to go. Winter is the off-season, and reasonably so. Cooler temperatures and increased rainfall results in a drop of visitors. Winds are high.

Christmas is an exciting time to visit, as is February for the annual carnival. If you don’t mind getting a little wet, Malta is still worth a visit in the winter. If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday, the best time to visit Malta is going to be in the fall.

What to Pack for Malta

-Sun protection . The sun is hot and Malta has over 300 days of sunshine. Be prepared by bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a good sun hat to keep your body covered and protected.

- Closed toe shoes . Especially if you want to go out and walk in the countryside, you’ll be met with limestone and shrubs. Not ideal for flip flops or other open-toed shoes.

-Flip flops – on another note, bring a pair of open-toe shoes. You’re on an island. Flip off the flops and enjoy some beach time. If you’re not on the sand, at least you’re prepared for warmer weather, where you want your feet to feel free.

- Cover ups  - Some Malta sites require that shoulders and knees are covered, so make sure you bring a shirt or scarf that covers your shoulders, and a skirt, dress, or pants that cover your knees. If you’re dressed inappropriately, you may be refused entry.

- Layers -  Malta can be sunny and warm, but chilly when the sun drops. Since you’re near the water, you can feel the breeze, making it feel colder than it actually is. A light jacket is smart to bring if you’re taking a ferry or boat ride.

We had a great food tour with the knowledgeable and entertaining INgrid.  Five different venues and a chance to try all the local food and drink.  Really interesting to hear the history associated with these foods and enjoy the ambience of places off the beaten track. Highly recommend it but allow more time than the website suggests to fully enjoy.

After visiting all over the island for more than a week and already having explored Valletta, it was good to go back to the capital to see the nooks and crannies of the city that I had overlooked. Our guide, Ingrid, was so lively and upbeat about the city and the foods that one couldn’t help but be excited about the tour. It was laid out very nicely, with stops at a place that serves breakfast, then one that serves a lunch and one that serves a dinner. We had a chance to sample Maltese wine, beer, and chocolate and go to places frequented by the locals. Our group was about 8 people, which was just perfect for moving around through the city and maneuvering through the crowded streets. We started at 10 and ended at about 2 I think, so it was nice that we never felt rushed. We had a chance to talk and meet the other participants and to learn more about them, a bonus when traveling abroad. All in all, a really fun day and all the better because of Ingrid, who was so knowledgeable about Malta and the foods we sampled. A must do!

We, within a few hours discovered the very tasty local cuisine that included breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. It was lovely to be guided through the myriad of streets to the local eateries. We would recommend that participants be warned to come with an appetite.

Absolutely loved this tour, it was the highlight of our trip (family of 5 on holiday). We were part of a really fun group – 6 or so other people from all over the world, all coming together to try new and delicious food from a range of foodie pitstops (nothing too pretentious or fancy!). We really loved Nick and his unique way of guiding us through Valetta, giving a good background to the city’s history while also pointing out architectural features we would have never noticed ourselves.

My wife and I had an excellent time. Our guide Nicholas was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly and funny. We learnt a lot about Malta and especially the ins and outs of Valletta. Our tour guide Ingrid was amazing! She is very knowledge-able as she is also doing normal tours through Malta, so you get the perfect mix between food, history and why the food culture is what it is today. The food itself was really good and the restaurants we visited very well picked. My parents aren’t fluent in English, so I translated everything for them, which was no problem at all. My family and me really enjoyed the whole tour a lot! 😍 I have already done a few food tours all over the world, but this one was the best for me! Thank you very much Ingrid! ☺️

Specially selected for both quality and location and with an average rating of 4 stars, Premium accommodation brings you closer to each destination. While sometimes off-grid or remote, you can always count on comfort and personalised service.

Feature stays

All our Premium itineraries include a feature stay in a unique property chosen for historical significance, to showcase the local architectural style or to provide an unusual and exceptional local experience. Think a Ming-dynasty heritage house in China or a converted Madrasah in Uzbekistan.

Great! You're about to join a small group adventure, with an average of just 10 other travelers who want to explore the same destination as you. There’s no extra charge when you share accommodation with a member of the same gender, but if you’d like a little more privacy with a room all to yourself, there's a single supplement available on most Premium trips.

Club legends visit supporters in Malta

Club legends Ledley King, Ossie Ardiles and Gary Mabbutt visited Malta this week to meet with members of our Official Supporter's Club and their community on the Mediterranean island ahead of the Visit Malta Cup in August.

The Visit Malta Cup sees our Men’s First Team face six-time European champions FC Bayern at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 August, 5.30pm kick-off.

The trip began with a Q&A and meet & greet with members from our Official Supporters’ Club, Malta Spurs. The trio then paid a visit to San Gwann Primary School, meeting with Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo as well as staff and children from the school, before taking part in a training session for young people at a nearby grassroots football club, Sirens Football Nursery.

Finally, the group undertook a tour of the Official Supporters’ Club bar, the home of Malta Spurs, which hosts some iconic Spurs memorabilia from as far back as the 1940s. The legends also met with the CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, Carlo Micallef.

Gary said: “It was great to be back in Malta again, my sixth visit to this beautiful country. I came before with my family, and our children loved the beaches as well as walking around the streets and restaurants in Valletta.

“The Visit Malta Cup is taking place just a week before the start of the new Premier League season and is going to be an incredible occasion.”

Ledley added: “We received such a warm welcome from everyone in Malta. It has been a brilliant couple of days, meeting with our fans and engaging with an important part of the Club’s wider community.”

Ossie said: “We were delighted to be in Malta to promote the match. I had been to the country three times before, and every time I have come here it has been absolutely beautiful.”

Tickets for the Visit Malta Cup match against FC Bayern are on sale now to 2023/24 Season Ticket Holders and One Hotspur Members, with pricing as follows:
