The Voyager Inn is a small property in downtown Anchorage that fills the need for a lower-priced hotel in the usually more pricey part of town. The four-story hotel is quiet and features simple modern decor, mostly in shades of turquoise and gray and with interesting accents. In the small lobby, for example, a round copper-colored coffee table sits below dangling wire lanterns. There are soft armchairs and stacks of magazines for guests to peruse while waiting to check in. A small breakfast room just off the lobby is bright and clean and has simple wooden tables and chairs and a buffet counter. Most guests are tourists and business travelers looking for clean and modern accommodations. The lack of features (especially a pool) make this property less appealing to families.

Downtown Anchorage and walking distance from sights and Coastal Trail

Located on one of the busiest streets in downtown Anchorage, The Voyager Inn is convenient for tourists who want to explore the city on foot. Business travelers will also find the property well situated for downtown conferences and meetings. Across the street is the large Hotel Captain Cook, which has a few restaurants, a wine bar, and an espresso bar. A few other cafes as well as car repair garages and shops are found nearby. Many places of interest to tourists are within walking distance, including the Imaginarium Science Discovery Center and the Anchorage Museum. The Oscar Anderson House Museum is a four-minute walk. The property is also about five minutes' walk from Elderberry Park, which connects to the 11-mile Coastal Trail for cyclists. From the hotel, it's a six-minute drive to Sullivan Arena and about 18 minutes by car to the Alaska Zoo. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Decor is classic and most accents are in blue and gray, including carpet, armchairs, and drapes around glass doors that open to balconies in some rooms. Pillowtop beds have wooden headboards and face wall-mounted flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free. Note that safes aren't provided. Each room also has a basic wooden desk, a large dresser, and nightstands. Kitchenettes with microwaves, mini-fridges, toaster ovens, sinks, and coffeemakers are standard. Dishes and silverware are also provided. Bathrooms are clean and have modern wallpaper and textured gray shower curtains, but the shower/tub combos and sinks are a little dated. Toiletries and robes are provided. Some rooms can experience minor street noise.

A convenient downtown location is the property's biggest selling point. Free breakfast buffet with standard hot and cold items (eggs, bacon, cereal, and coffee) is served daily in a simple room off the lobby. Lunch and dinner are not served, but free wine and local beer are offered in the late afternoon. There is no fitness center on-site. However, guests are allowed free access to the health club and pool/hot tub at the much larger partner property, Hotel Captain Cook, across the street. Hotel Captain Cook also has several restaurants and an espresso bar, which guests of The Voyager can access. There is no parking at The Voyager, but there are several pay lots in the area, including one in front of the hotel, for travelers with cars. A personal computer and printer are available on-site, but there is no full business center. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
