Cult band The Dears are playing Bristol for the first time in six years next week

The Montreal group are heading out on a UK tour, having recently announced Return To Lovers Rock , an expanded edition of their most recent record, Lovers Rock .

The Dears will visit Bristol’s Exchange on Thursday 6 October.

Renowned for their visceral live sets and their unique brand of noir-pop, the five-piece’s stretch of UK shows comes as part of a busy autumn period for the band after a frustratingly broken up period for the band.

Formed in 1995 in Montreal, The Dears have had an ever-changing cast of members, revolving around the creative nucleus of iconic husband-and-wife duo, Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak.

A brooding and charismatic frontman, Lightburn embodies the dark, sleazy nature of the band’s gloomy chamber-pop style. The singer’s idiosyncratic vocal approach has been likened to musical legends such as Morrisey, who the band supported back in 2004.

Following the release of their debut full-length record  End of A Hollywood Bedtime Story  in 2000, the group began to attract the interest of indie fans in Canada and beyond.

During their twenty-seven-year career, The Dears have put out eight albums to date and been nominated for multiple Polaris Prizes and, in addition to Morrisey, have opened for bands such as The Secret Machines and Keane.

Known for their signature look of black suits and white shirts, their orchestral pop noir sound and their energetic live shows, the outfit have not played in the UK in six years.

Their most recent record,  Lovers Rock , was released in 2020 to rave reviews and the cult band’s long-awaited Exchange show - which comes as part of a lengthy string of gigs in the UK and Europe - will be eagerly anticipated by The Dears fans all over the South West.

As well as Bristol, the band’s UK tour sees them drop by venues in Cambridge, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester and London. To find out more head to The Dears’ website .

Canadian Rockers The Dears Announce UK Tour In September

Canadian indie rock group The Dears have announced a string of UK shows, the band are set to make their long-awaited return to the UK this September. The Dears promise a setlist full of nostalgia and will perform classics taken from their decades-long career. The Montreal-based rockers’ setlist will also include tracks from their recent release Lovers Rock , the upcoming tour marks the live premiere of the album in the UK.

The group includes founding member and guitarist/vocalist Murray Lightburn and vocalist/pianist Natalia Yanchak, the husband and wife duo have remained at the helm since its formation in the 90s. After The Dears released their debut album in 2000, they quickly amassed a loyal following and received praise from critics and fans alike. Entitled End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story , the album caught the attention of music fans and The Dears were placed at the forefront of a resurgence of popularity for Indie rock in Canada. The group’s recent release marked their eighth studio album, Lovers Rock was released in 2020 and was met with critical acclaim and rave reviews.

On tour this fall… https://t.co/j5lKBfM252 — Natalia Yanchak (@nataliayanchak) May 20, 2022

The band had initially planned to tour in support of Lovers Rock two years ago but due to COVID and the subsequent lockdowns, they were forced to postpone any live performances of its material.  Speaking in a press release, Yanchak has given the following statement, “ After all this time, the re-re-scheduling of tour dates and the re-re-re-anticipation of playing shows — it’s a little hard to believe these shows are finally going to happen. We originally released ‘Lovers Rock’ in 2020. It was an album we were, and are still, very proud of. So it was hard to put out a record and then not play a single one of those songs live. We did a streaming show, but it’s just not the same as being in the same sweaty club, all together. ”

The album saw Lightburn and Yanchak work with long-time drummer Jeff Luciani, guitarist Steve Raegele and bassist Remi-Jean LeBlanc. Along with a full-string section, Lovers Rock features E Street Band’s Jake Clemons and Alex Francoeur on saxophone. Also included in the album is Sam Roberts, the fellow Montréal-based musician also known for his work within Canada’s indie rock scene.

Lightburn gives the following statement concerning the group, “ The Dears aren’t fucking around, We don’t have time to waste. We’ve got a job to do. And we’re going to do it. 20 years ago, I knew I had a sound in my head, but I didn’t know how to get that down. Now I know how to get that sound. The question we’re asking in the music is, ‘how do we navigate so much bullshit in this world?’, We’re still playing this dumb rock music. But there’s always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you’re alive. To say, ‘I know what you’re going through. And I’m hearing you, and I’m with you.’ That’s what the music is supposed to do. ”

The Dears’ six-date UK tour kicks off on 30th September 2022 with a set at Cambridge’s Portland Arms, the band will then play Liverpool’s Zanzibar on 1st October 2022. After a set in Manchester on 4th October 2022, the group will perform in the capital at Highbury’s The Garage with support from Perfect Son. The tour concludes with a performance at Bristol’s Exchange on 6th October 2022, click here to purchase tickets.

THE DEARS – Announce New Album ‘Lovers Rock’ out 15th May + UK Tour Dates

the dears uk tour

Montréal stalwarts The Dears have announced the release of their eighth studio album Lovers Rock on May 15 via Dangerbird Records. They’ve released the album’s first single  “The Worst In Us” — share via YouTube.  The band will preview Lovers Rock across twelve April shows in Europe and the UK before performing the album in select North American cities between May and July. View all dates below.

The Dears’ 2003 breakthrough album No Cities Left was a crepuscular, romantic soundtrack to uncertain times. 9/11. War. The looming economic crisis. Nearly two decades later, as Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak began work on Lovers Rock, the world’s mood felt eerily similar

There’s a direct line between the sort of doominess of No Cities Left and this album,” says Lightburn. “You could go straight from Lovers Rock to No Cities Left and it’s like they’re interlocked. But it’s a different kind of doom.  Around 2001, it felt like, ‘We have no control. We don’t know what’s going to happen next.’ Now it’s a doom that’s within our grasp. It’s in the air. It’s between us. But we do nothing about it.”

If The Dears have always made apocalyptic love songs for an existential crisis, there are also other constants, starting, of course, with the band’s two core members for two decades: Lightburn and Yanchak. There are also certain sonic and aesthetic parameters, within which the music can be both unsettlingly experimental and impossibly lush: part Bacharach, part Krautrock. From the anthemic anger and driving resignation of “Heart of An Animal” to the swoony, swerving, epic “The Worst In Us,” Lovers Rock is the sound of The Dears topping themselves yet again, an accomplishment borne of ambition, hard work, and a strong sense of identity.

Lightburn was still touring his 2019 solo record Hear Me Out as work began on Lovers Rock. But she rarely lacks for inspiration, and as Yanchak says, “the band is never off.” “For us, the tank is never empty,” he explains.  “For me it’s like an onslaught of ideas and sounds, and then I can’t keep up half the time. It’s a feverish process. Every record that we make, there’s a ton of songs.”

On Lovers Rock, Lightburn (vocals, guitar, “other”) and Yanchak (vocals, piano) are joined by longtime drummer Jeff “Looch” Luciani, who’s been in the fold since 2011’s Degeneration Street, and two holdovers from Lightburn’s solo record, Steve Raegele (guitar) and Rémi-Jean LeBlanc (bass). There’s also a string section, a cameo from fellow Montrealer Sam Roberts (who was also on No Cities Left), and saxophone from both Canadian Alex Francoeur and the E Street Band’s Jake Clemons (on the rattling “Stille Lost”).

Just by being at it for so long, The Dears are able to work faster and more efficiently than most ensembles, which is especially important when you have two kids (and when the business is less remunerative than ever).  “The Dears aren’t fucking around,”  says Lightburn.  “We don’t have time to waste. We’ve got a job to do. And we’re going to do it. 20 years ago, I knew I had a sound in my head, but I didn’t know how to get that down. Now I know how to get that sound.”

You could still call it pop music,  “but it’s a different kind of pop music,”  says Lightburn.  “It’s very focused on a certain type of person. I’m embracing the idea that we’re providing a service,” he adds. Part of that, he thinks, comes from being a parent: “I’m in service to these other humans, so I embrace that role as an artist. I’m making this music because I know that there’s people out there who need it.”

“The question we’re asking in the music is, ‘how do we navigate so much bullshit in this world?’”  says Lightburn . “We’re still playing this dumb rock music. But there’s always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you’re alive. To say, ‘I know what you’re going through. And I’m hearing you, and I’m with you.’ That’s what the music is supposed to do.”

The Dears standing in a line in a corridor of doors

Montreal stalwarts The Dears are returning to the UK this September for a long-awaited run of live dates. Marking a  triumphant return for the band, The Dears are guaranteed to deliver a cathartic set packed with classics alongside material from their latest release ‘Lovers Rock’, performed live for UK audiences for the first time. The Dears Announce Rescheduled UK Tour Dates For 2021

Their new album is also now available.

The Dears, led by husband & wife duo Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak, released their latest grand opus Lovers Rock digitally in May via Dangerbird Records, garnering tremendous praise worldwide. Today, the band confirm their rescheduled UK tour dates for 2021, and the album is now available at your local independent music retailer. Order from select independent retailers or the Dangerbird Records Store .

The Dears have always made apocalyptic love songs for an existential crisis, but the Montréal quintet certainly could not have known just how much their music would be needed, when recording last year. In celebration of Lovers Rock arrival on vinyl, the band has shared an acoustic studio recording of " We'll Go Into Hiding ."

The Dears work within certain sonic and aesthetic parameters that can be both unsettling experimental and impossibly lush. You could still call it pop music, "but it's a different kind of pop music," says Lightburn. "It's very focused on a certain type of person. I'm embracing the idea that we're providing a service," he adds. Part of that, he thinks, comes from being a parent: "I'm in service to these other humans, so I embrace that role as an artist. I'm making this music because I know that there are people out there who need it."

"The question we're asking in the music is, 'how do we navigate so much bulls in this world?'" says Lightburn. "We're still playing this dumb rock music. But there's always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you're alive. To say, 'I know what you're going through. And I'm hearing you, and I'm with you.' That's what the music is supposed to do."

The Dears will look to take to the road again, and bring solace to heal our collective wounds. Keep an eye on TheDears.org for up-to-date live expectations.

The Dears: Lovers Rock – album review

The Dears - Lovers Rock

Lovers Rock

Dangerbird Records

Released on 15 May

The Dears have been doom-mongering since the dawn of time. Or at least since they started out in Montreal 25 years ago. Tim Cooper finds them still searching for love in the time of coronavirus.

If you’re looking for a band to soundtrack your next global crisis, you need look no further than The Dears. In the wake of 9/11 the band built around Montreal couple Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak came up with the comprehensively doom-laden No Cities Left.

Two decades later, with a global wave of nationalism leading an assault on truth and justice, they went back into the studio to make Lovers Rock, an album filled with songs of love prevailing amid the ruins. Now, as it’s released, we really are in the grip of a global pandemic.

Somehow, the timing seems appropriate.

If there has been one continuous theme running through their 20-year career, it is the search for meaning in a violent and unpredictable world. Lovers Rock is no different. Nor is the template of their sound, which Lightburn once described to me, with some reluctance, as “what would happen if you took The Smiths, Pink Floyd and Curtis Mayfield and shook them up in a blender.” Which makes a change from the critics’ casual comparisons of his vocal style to Morrissey, Damon Albarn and David Bowie (which do, to be fair, contain at least a grain of truth).

Ever since they formed in 1995, working with a rotating group of musicians that already numbers more than 20, Lightburn and Yanchak have worn their bleeding hearts upon their frayed sleeves, blending bombast and grandeur with a contrasting gift for conveying intimacy and romance. If they have a default setting – and they surely do – it is a state of melancholic miserabilism.

The new album – their eighth – finds Lightburn (vocals, guitar) and Yanchak (vocals, piano) Jeff Luciani (drums) joined by two members of his recent solo band, Steve Raegele (guitar) and Rémi-Jean LeBlanc (bass), and comparative veteran Jeff Luciani (drums), who dates back to 2011’s Degeneration Street.

“There’s a direct line between the sort of doominess of No Cities Left and this album,” says Lightburn.

An archetypal Dears song will take us musically into several directions simultaneously – “part Bacharach, part Krautrock,” as Lightburn sees it – making this album’s ten songs sound like more, which is a novel way to offer value for money. There’s a nod to Bowie in the opening bars of the first song, Heart Of An Animal, with a hint of ‘Heroes’ about its intro, Lightburn’s vocals submerged beneath double-time drumming, synths and bass, before one of their trademark key changes. Lyrically it’s very much what we might expect: from The Dears: “I unequivocally feel / Almost all power drained from us / And I can certainly feel the decay crumbling inside us.” By the end, Lightburn is railing against “Lunacy, lunacy… feed our souls, feed the world.”

Throughout their career, The Dears have given their songs titles that foreshadow Lightburn’s less than wholeheartedly optimistic worldview: Expect The Worst. Postcard From Purgatory. No Hope Before Destruction. Despite its ostensibly unapocalyptic title, Lovers Rock is no different: Instant Nightmare. The Worst In Us. I Know What You’re Thinking And It’s Awful. The latter builds from a slowly strummed acoustic guitar and a pretty piano melody, with Lightburn’s gloomy vocal to the fore: “I know what you’re thinking / And it’s awful / An abomination / But I’ll never let it go / I’m entitled / even though you’re long gone.”

As ever, the album is nothing if not varied musically: No Place On Earth and The Worst In Us ( “This world has no chance,” Lightburn complains, typically) feature epic orchestral arrangements while Instant Nightmare has a big riff, a big string arrangement and big “Woo woo!” backing vocals in the bombastic style of Muse, matched by another characteristically pessimistic lyric: “This is an instant nightmare / And it’s like we’ll never wake up.” We all feel like that now, mate.

The superficial contrast of Is This What You Really Want? a melodic Blur-like acoustic number in the vein of Out Of Time, soon finds a similar thematic connection: “Nobody wants to die / But does anyone wanna live? / Another day going through the motions.” Stille Lost is the album’s highlight, with its gently stuttering drum machine and shimmering keyboards, and a bouncy rhythm propelled by what sounds like a fairground organ, broken up by a beautiful saxophone solo from the E Street Band’s Jake (nephew of the late great Clarence) Clemons.

Lightburn is still at his gloomiest, and his baritone voice at its deepest and richest: “We’re lost / And nobody gives a damn… There is nothing you could say to convince me / To go back home.” Likewise, in Play Dead he assures us that “The destruction will continue.”

Like society coming out of the grip of a deadly pandemic, the album sheds its apocalyptic tone towards the end, Lighburn channelling his romantic side in a gentle, wistful love song, the apologetic Too Many Wrongs.  His brooding baritone syncs sweetly with Yanchak’s harmonies as he issues a heartfelt declaration that “The things I’ve done will never suffice / I’ve tried my very best just to be nice to you.”

The romantic tone continues, bringing the album to an almost sentimental conclusion with We’ll Go Into Hiding, another slow burner featuring violin and viola, lit up by a life-affirming ray of optimism: “We’re building a better future / It’s gonna be all right / We’ll make it last for ever.”

We’ll all say Amen to that.

Live reviews

I knew that as soon I heard that The Dears were coming to town that I was buying tickets, regardless of the cost. Ideally for me they were playing at one of my favorite venues, a cozy little place that could fit under 200 people at the most. Perfect venue for the indie group, with all their little quirks and all.

This band looks like someone walked down a busy city street and randomly selected the first six people they saw to form this band. That's not a bad thing, it's a good thing as it really fuels their creativity. It also seems to give them and underdog mentality that comes through their music.

While they rock and can get good and loud like the rest of them, I really appreciate the somber tone or inner sadness that peeks through in some of their songs. It's instantly something I can relate to and I think really draws myself (as well as their other fans) to them.

That honesty really shined through in this live performance, and these guys (and girl) really poured their energy and emotions into their songs. The crowd could not have been more enthused, the applause was constant, and I, as well as others, sang along to many of the songs. It was a really good show!

Hey Seattle, you missed a virtuoso performance by Murray Lightburn of the Dears. I don’t get it. Maybe it wasn’t marketed well - it wasn’t showing up at times on Cop Suey’s calendar - but holy hell, there were like maybe 25 people there. For the Dears!

It was a rainy Wednesday night in Seattle, so I guess binge watching Netflix and ordering UberEats is preferable to witnessing a truly humbling talent reach back into the Dears catalogue with nothing but his golden voice and an acoustic guitar.

I’m embarrassed. I thought we were better than that. Sorry Murray.

Simply amazing! If you haven't listened to them or been to one of their concerts yet, I don't know what you are doing with your life. One of the best bands ever! Fantastic sound, incredible voices and a performance that will leave you absolutely speechless. Please, please, please, come back to London soon!

Great showmanship, murrays vocals were on point. The performance was really tight, and the new album plays very well live. I was really hoping for songs like galactic tides, lights off, and lamentation, but still a great set list. I think the sound could've been better, but still was fine.

Bloody brilliant! I've been waiting a long time for The Dears to come back to the UK and now I've seen them twice in the same year playing their Times Infinity albums 1 & 2. I really hope they won't leave it so long before coming back again.

LIVE REVIEW: The Dears – Oslo, Hackney, London

THE DEARS -
Share Excerpt From ‘Times Infinity’ Short Film - Watch

Frontman Murray Lightburn has been compared vocally to both Damon Albarn and Morrissey. Like Morrissey, Murray is not afraid to express himself. Even in the twenty-first century, “the music press won’t ever allow a black “frontman” to truly thrive unscathed in the rock’n’roll arena”. Whatever the world has thrown at the dears over the last 25 years, they have never sold out. Their advice to “listen and act on your instincts and ignore almost everything and everyone else” is the greatest gift a band can give to their fans and humanity.

Excluding an album signing and one London show earlier this year, The Dears have not toured the capital for over five years. With the releases of Times Infinity Vol 1 and 2 , drawing influences from No Cities Left , both offer a dense listen, with a drama of guitars and percussion; there were high expectations. The Dears creative enthusiasm hasn’t waned. “Some days your head hits the pillow at 4 a.m. When you’re driven, time can really fly.”

From the beginning of the ninety-minute set, Murray showed himself to be a true leader. The rest of the band didn’t dare to begin playing without Lightburn’s cues. The Dears rocked up their studio sound. Gang of Losers influences could be felt throughout their wider song collection. This sound was delivered without any loss to the depth of their trademark sensitive and complex arrangements, or vocal and lyrical interpretations; which haunt, prompt analysis and even existential crisis. Suspicion is often cast when artists’ rock up their most sensitive and poetical works; which often fail miserably. The Dears didn’t; they won and evolved.

On new songs such as I’m Sorry That I Wished You Dead , you could feel Natalia Yanchak’s emotions, and the message she aimed to get across. “You can feel these horrible thoughts, but that doesn’t mean you have to do anything about them, you have to find a way to deal with it, in a way that brings peace to you and peace to your relationships.’ Despite the acting out of demons, The Dears also offered more therapeutic and relaxing, even loin moving musical overtones with their new material. Taking it to the Grave started with a cool chilled out coffee bar ambience before the God-fearing guitar riffs took effect. 1998 offered the upbeat drumming reminiscent on The Strokes classic Last Nite; whilst the guitar riffs showed familiarity with George Harrison’s Something . After a classic Dears dark start, I Used to Pray for the Heavens to Fall offered catchy and almost mainstream funk guitar.

The Dears showed they still had stamina as they played late into the night. Speaking earlier this year, they said “all lights are out by 9:30 pm in our house. Zzzzzzz.” Their curfew was successfully broken. With the exception of No Cities Left LP being slightly under-represented, an underrated album which arguably belongs in the rock’n’roll hall of fame; The Dears from start to finish gave a phenomenal live performance. The Dears exceeded their goals of remaining “faithful” and had “maximum effect on the audience”.

“Europe shall gather in Worship”: Sleep Token announce extra November tour dates, plus UK/EU support band

The masked metal cult will precede their UK arena tour with some dates on the European mainland

Vessel of Sleep Token

Sleep Token have announced a string of live dates in mainland Europe for November.

The concerts, which will run from November 9 to 22, will precede the masked metal superstars’ UK arena tour, which starts on November 25.

See the full list of dates below.

Tickets to the European dates go on sale tomorrow (April 30) at 10am CEST.

The band have also announced that their support act for the Europe and UK shows will be pop-metal artist Bilmuri.

Sleep Token comment on social media: “Come November, Europe shall gather in Worship.

“Opening proceedings in Europe, as indeed the United Kingdom, will be the Bilmuri collective.

“Prepare.”

Sleep Token are currently in the US and will start their Teeth Of God North American run tomorrow at the Financial Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

The band are promoting their 2023 album Take Me Back To Eden , which was released via Spinefarm.

Metal Hammer gave Take Me Back To Eden a glowing 8/10 review upon release.

Journalist Dannii Leivers wrote: “Combining feeling and sound in a potent, masterful statement, …Eden is Sleep Token’s strongest effort to date.

“And, while they’ll always be Marmite, there’s no question it will delight those already onboard.

“This is a record that not only expands the band’s universe and continues to prod metal’s boundaries, but considers what it means to be human. Otherworldly they may be, but there’s the deepest empathy within.”

Sleep Token have since inked a deal with major label RCA.

The band announced the signing by calling it the start of their “new era”, which they’d previously teased by unveiling new masks in December 2023.

Mask designer Lani Hernadez-David stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that month: “I’m sure they have something in mind that the fans will appreciate greatly.

“There’s definitely a new era coming, but I won’t speak too much on that, because I’m not really clued up on it.”

THE DEARS TO EMBARK ON UK TOUR THIS SEPTEMBER

THE DEARS TO EMBARK ON UK TOUR THIS SEPTEMBER TICKETS  HERE

the dears uk tour

Montreal stalwarts The Dears are returning to the UK this September for a long-awaited run of live dates.

Marking a  triumphant return for the band, The Dears are guaranteed to deliver a cathartic set packed with classics alongside material from their latest release ‘Lovers Rock’, performed live for UK audiences for the first time.

Natalia Yanchak  says:

“After all this time, the re-re-scheduling of tour dates and the re-re-re-anticipation of playing shows — it’s a little hard to believe these shows are finally going to happen.”

After releasing ‘Lovers Rock’ over two years ago, repeated lockdowns and cancellations of live touring meant the band had been unable to play the record live until this Spring. Natalia adds:

“We originally released ‘Lovers Rock’ in 2020. It was an album we were, and are still, very proud of. So it was hard to put out a record and then not play a single one of those songs live. We did a streaming show, but it’s just not the same as being in the same sweaty club, all together.”

The record saw  Murray Lightburn  (vocals, guitar, “other”) and  Natalia Yanchak  (vocals, piano) joined by longtime drummer  Jeff “Looch” Luciani  as well as  Steve Raegele  (guitar) and  Rémi-Jean LeBlanc  (bass), and also featured a string section, a cameo from fellow Montrealer  Sam Roberts  and saxophone from both  Alex Francoeur  and the E Street Band’s  Jake Clemons .

Just by being at it for so long, The Dears were able to work faster and more efficiently than most ensembles — which is especially important when you have two kids and when the business is less remunerative than ever.  “The Dears aren’t fucking around,”  says  Lightburn .  “We don’t have time to waste. We’ve got a job to do. And we’re going to do it. 20 years ago, I knew I had a sound in my head, but I didn’t know how to get that down. Now I know how to get that sound.”

“The question we’re asking in the music is, ‘how do we navigate so much bullshit in this world?’”,  he adds.  “We’re still playing this dumb rock music. But there’s always gonna be a little twist of the knife, cutting into something deep to make you feel like you’re alive. To say, ‘I know what you’re going through. And I’m hearing you, and I’m with you.’ That’s what the music is supposed to do.”

Now finally able to bring ‘Lovers Rock’ to UK audiences, full dates and details are below.

The Cult add extra London show to 2024 UK anniversary tour

It comes after the band announced a 40th-anniversary tour earlier this month

Ian Astbury, left, and guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult perform at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult have added an extra London show to their upcoming anniversary tour. Check out ticket details below.

The announcement comes just days after the rock icons announced details of an upcoming UK tour for the end of 2024 – which will see them celebrate 40 years as a band.

Upcoming shows will be held in 10 cities across the country, and mark the milestone anniversary of Ian Astbury and co. coming together as we recognise them today – swapping their name from the original title ‘Death Cult’ into ‘The Cult’.

Now, following the initial date at London’s Royal Albert Hall selling out, the band have announced details of a second show in the UK capital, this time held at the Roundhouse venue in Camden.

The date is added as an extension to the original run of shows and will take place on Tuesday, November 5 – the day after the Royal Albert Hall gig. Tickets are available now and you can check out an updated itinerary for the UK shows below.

Ian Astbury of The Cult performs at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult 2024 updated tour dates are:

OCTOBER 21 – Leicester, De Montfort Hall 22– Swansea, Swansea Arena  24 – Edinburgh, Usher Hall [SOLD OUT] 25 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 27 – Bristol, Beacon [LOW TICKETS]  29 – York, Barbican 30 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall

Recommended

NOVEMBER: 1 – Portsmouth, Guildhall 2 – Wolverhampton, Civic Hall 4 – London, Royal Albert Hall [SOLD OUT] 5 – London, Roundhouse

The dates for 2024 come following a tour the band embarked on last year, celebrating 40 years since their first formation under the name ‘Death Cult’ .

Taking place around the UK, Ireland and the US, the tour was called ‘Death Cult 8323’ and saw Duffy and Astbury return to play iconic venues they previously performed in at the start of their career.

The live shows focused on Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, and also boasted a setlist that spanned “the three phases of the band, from Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: ‘Dreamtime’ (1984) and ‘Love’ (1985).”

Announcing the new run of dates, guitarist Billy Duffy said: “Following up from the great energy of ‘Death Cult 8323’ shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to ‘Cult 8424’… CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!”

More recently, Billy Duffy joined Johnny Marr on stage in Frome last summer to play tracks by The Smiths and Depeche Mode .
