Rasmus Hojgaard 2021 Omega European Masters champion

With the majority of golfing eyes firmly placed on East Lake as the PGA Tour looks to crown its FedEx Cup champion in the season closing Tour Championship, DP World Tour action is underway in Switzerland for the Omega European Masters.

The beautiful Crans-sur-Sierre once again plays host to a field that includes defending champion Rasmus Hojgaard. It proved to be first time lucky for the great Dane when a final round 63 set the clubhouse lead at 13-under-par, which was ultimately enough to secure a one shot victory over Bernd Wiesberger.

Ryan Fox is the only player inside the top-50 of the Official World Golf Ranking that will tee it up in Switzerland and he will do so fresh from recent top-3 finishes at the Dutch Open, BMW International Open and Horizon Irish Open.

Adrian Meronk made history at the Horizon Open earlier this year when he became Poland's first winner of a DP World Tour event. The 29-year-old has made the journey to Switzerland in a bid to make that multiple Tour titles.

Former Masters champion Danny Willett is the only Major winner in the field and will tee it up on the DP World Tour for the first time since the co-sanctioned Genesis Scottish Open in July.

Golf fans can also look forward to a rare glimpse of Miguel Angel Jimenez. Although a regular on the Champions Tour, the swashbuckling Spaniard will make his first DP World Tour appearance since February.

Having first been contested in 1905, the Omega European Masters is one of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour circuit; boasting past champions in the likes of Bobby Locke, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Price, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia .

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy pose with their trophies after the end of the DP World Tour Championship. Rahm claimed the tournament title while McIlroy won the season-long points race.

Andrew Redington

To say Jon Rahm loves playing the DP World Tour Championship on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates would be the understatement of understatements. The 28-year-old Spaniard had two wins and a T-4 showing in his three previous starts in the Old World circuit’s season finale, posting a scoring average of 67.66.

It was more of the same this week, as Rahm followed up an opening-round 70 with a 66-65-67 finish to take the tournament title for a third time, outpacing Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots. In the process, he lowered that career scoring average to 67.5.

It was Rahm’s ninth career DP World Tour victory and fifth win in the tour’s elevated Rolex Series events. With the triumph, Rahm claimed the $3 million first-place prize money payout (€2,891,271) from the overall purse of $10 million. He also saw his career earnings on the DP World Tour rise to €21,834,859.52, the 19th player in tour history to break the €20 million mark.

There was another winner on Sunday as well as Rory McIlroy, while finishing four strokes back of Rahm in solo fourth place, earned the DP World Tour’s Harry Vardon Trophy as the season-long points title winner . It’s the third time McIlroy has won the honor, but the first in a season in which he also won the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup title.

European Tour to become the DP World Tour from 2022

DPWT_Launch_1920x1080

  • Ground-breaking partnership signals a new era in the Tour’s history
  • Significant commitment will elevate the Tour ‘in every way’, including new minimum $2million prize fund for each tournament
  • The partnership will help grow global golf and drive positive community impact

The European Tour group and DP World today jointly announced a ground-breaking evolution to their long-term partnership, with DP World becoming the new title sponsor of the group’s main tour from the start of the 2022 season.

The agreement heralds a new era in the history of the European Tour group, which, along with DP World, will celebrate its 50 th anniversary in 2022, the first season of the newly named DP World Tour.

Today’s announcement represents a significant deal in terms of global sports partnerships, with DP World’s substantial commitment dedicated to three key areas: elevating the Tour in every way , growing the game of golf globally , and driving positive community impact .

The new look DP World Tour will see total prize money break through the $200 million mark for the first time, with a new minimum prize fund of $2 million for all tournaments solely sanctioned by the DP World Tour.

In 2022, the DP World Tour will represent a truly global tour through an international schedule, that will feature a minimum of 47 tournaments in 27 different countries, including new tournaments in the UAE, Japan, South Africa and Belgium and an expanded Rolex Series comprising five events: the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, the Genesis Scottish Open, the BMW PGA Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

For the first time, it will also feature three tournaments co-sanctioned with the PGA TOUR - the aforementioned Genesis Scottish Open, as well as the Barbasol Championship and the Barracuda Championship taking place in the United States – as a result of the Strategic Alliance between male professional golf’s two leading Tours.

The European Tour and DP World were both established in 1972 and have since developed into global enterprises with DP World, which is headquartered in Dubai, evolving into the leading provider of global smart end-to-end supply chain and logistics solutions.

DP World’s association with the European Tour spans more than a decade, first becoming a p resenting partner of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates in its inaugural year in 2009, before the Rolex Series event was renamed the DP World Tour Championship in 2012. It was in this year that DP World became the tournament’s title partner.

DP World then became an Official Partner of the European Tour in 2015, and they will now become the Official Title Partner of the Tour from the start of the 2022 season, which begins with the Joburg Open in South Africa, from November 22-25.

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour group, said : “Today’s announcement is undoubtedly a momentous one in the proud history of our Tour. The launch of the DP World Tour in 2022, coinciding with both of our 50th anniversaries, will herald a new era in global golf, and crucially it will benefit everybody involved – all our players, caddies, fans and partners – as well as making an important contribution to wider society.

“The entire ecosystem of our Tour will be strengthened because of this hugely significant deal, and that was essential to us and to DP World, who have been an incredible supporter of our Tour as well as golf more widely, from grassroots through to the elite professional game.

“The DP World Tour is, therefore, a natural evolution of our decade-long partnership, and the presence of ‘World’ in our new title better reflects our global reach.” Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, said: “DP World has been a partner of the European Tour for over a decade. Our long-standing partnership has provided an excellent platform to engage with customers, prospects, and stakeholders, and build our brand. We have relished the opportunity to support the Tour in growing the game of golf and improving access to the sport at all levels. The key to this success has been and will continue to be the shared vision and values that underpin the partnership. “We both have a global mindset, are committed to inclusivity, and invest in new technologies to stay competitive – attributes which today become the fundamental principles of the DP World Tour. As the leading provider of smart logistics solutions worldwide, we will use our people, assets, and connectivity to help grow the Tour further and change what’s possible in golf.” Jay Monahan, Commissioner of the PGA TOUR and Board Member of the European Tour, added ; “Thanks to the support of long-standing partner DP World, today’s announcement significantly elevates the European Tour on a global basis. We are excited for the continued growth and evolution of the European Tour, as well as the momentum this provides toward our Strategic Alliance. I’ve said before that our respective Tours are positioned to grow – together – over the next 10 years faster than we ever have at any point in our existence, and today’s announcement is another point of proof in those efforts.”

DP World’s Tour title partnership will help enhance the following key areas:

Omega European Masters

The 2024 Omega European Masters features a total prize money fund of $3.25 million and is one of the richest DP World Tour events.

Taking place high in the Alps in Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland, the European Masters is known as one of the most picturesque on the DP World Tour calendar .

Players don’t just play in the event for the scenery though because the Omega European Masters is one of the biggest prizes of the season.

The event has seen an increase from $2.75 million in 2023 when Ludvig Aberg claimed his first professional win.

Aberg isn’t back to defend his crown, but the field for the 2024 European Masters is headed by another former winner in Matt Fitzpatrick . He won the event back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

The European Masters is the second event of the Back 9 stretch of the DP World Tour season following the British Masters, a $3.5 million tournament which was won by Niklas Norgaard last week.

Czech Masters: Todd Clements earns shock maiden DP World Tour win as Matt Wallace falls short

Todd Clements finishes on 22 under and a shot clear of Matt Wallace, with Nicolai Hojgaard four strokes back in third and Robert MacIntyre in a share of fourth; final event of Ryder Cup qualifying is the Omega European Masters, beginning on Thursday

Sunday 27 August 2023 18:41, UK

Todd Clements secured a maiden DP World Tour title after holding off a host of Ryder Cup hopefuls to claim a dramatic one-shot victory at the D+D Real Czech Masters.

Clements overturned a three-stroke deficit during a thrilling final round at Albatross Golf Resort in Prague, where he charged into contention with six birdies in his opening eight holes.

The Englishman added three straight birdies from the 11th to raises hopes of a '59 round', only to par each of his last five holes to close a bogey-free 63 and set the clubhouse target at 22 under.

Matt Wallace made a late victory push when he moved within one of the lead with four holes to play, but he was unable to find a birdie over the closing stretch and finished a shot back in second.

"Given the circumstances that's got to be the best round of my life," a delighted Clements said. "I'm over the moon. I've dreamt about winning for a long time and with my birthday coming up on Tuesday I couldn't be happier.

"Three shots to make up is a tough ask but I knew I was playing well enough to get in amongst it. I feel like I did my job on every shot and obviously the luck was with me today because I holed a few long ones."

Wallace held a share of the lead going into the final day and followed three birdies in his first eighth holes by taking advantage of the par-five 12th and picking up a shot at the 14th, although missed an eight-foot birdie chance at the last to force a play-off.

Last year, when Danny Willett won the tournament, the Englishman took home just over $1 million, but this year, the prize for first place was treble that.

G4D Tour Series finale @ DP World Tour Championship reveals new format

The G4D Tour Series finale @ DP World Tour Championship will have a new look this November as nine of the world's finest golfers with disability make their way to Jumeirah Golf Estates.

G4D season finale Dubai trophy

The field will contain one more player than the 2023 edition, with the winners of the six regular individual G4D Tour events from 2024 plus the men's and women's winners from the G4D Open guaranteed their place in Dubai.

The remaining place will go to the next eligible player from the Gross Rankings on the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD) at the conclusion of the G4D Tour at BMW PGA Championship.

The next eligible player or players from the WR4GD will then also be invited to complete the field in the event of a player winning multiple times.

With Kipp Popert having won the G4D Tour @ Magical Kenya Open Presented by Absa and the men's section at the G4D Open, there are currently two spots available via the WR4GD.

In a change of format, the event will be played with net scoring over the Earth Course, with players going out in three-balls over two rounds.

The first round will be played on Monday November 10, with a rest day then taking place before a winner is crowned on Wednesday November 12. The prize giving will then take place on November 13.
