Planar Portals. The DMG has a section on Planar Travel which includes Planar Portals as a means of getting to other planes: Passing through a planar portal can be the simplest way to travel from the Material Plane to a desired location on another plane. Most of the time, though, a portal presents an adventure in itself.

Choose a creature within your reach and make a melee spell attack against it. On a hit, the creature must make a Charisma saving throw. If the creature fails the save, it is transported to a random location on the plane of existence you specify. A creature so transported must find its own way back to your current plane of existence.

  11. Plane Shift in DnD 5e » Black Citadel RPG

There are a few ways to access planar travel, but Plane Shift is definitely one of the safest and most easily accessed. First off, it doesn't take much to cast. A 7th-level spell, accessible for most casters once you reach level 13 in your class, a single action, and a tuning fork are all you need to move your party and allies across the ...

Travel from one of the other Inner Planes. The elemental planes are all connected to each other and the Elemental Chaos, the ill-defined edge of the infinite planes. If you know the way, you can navigate from one plane to another, though certain routes take longer than others (and are quite a bit more dangerous). Travel from the Astral Plane.

This is the "intended" way for NPC opponents to prevent planar travel. It's also fine to homebrew something -- for example you might adapt the AD&D weirdstone item to 5e. It's good practice to not use this too aggressively. Many tables will consider it "cheap" for the DM to deliberately shut down player character abilities.

PCs get means for planar travel (under their own power) pretty late (7th level plane shift, Gate at 9th) so having some sort of gateway may be the best shot for the characters to get there (depending on level of course ...

  16. Planar Travel 5e : r/DnD

PM_ME_UR__SECRETS. • 2 yr. ago. The common methods of planar travel in D&D include gates (doors that lead to a fixed point between two realms and may or may not require a key), magic items that allow planar travel such as an amulet of planeshift or a Cubic Gate. And then of course, some classes have access to spells that allow planar traversal.

  17. Planar Travel (Endhaven Supplement)

The purpose of this is to make that day's adventure the focus of game play, rather than focusing on travel that may not be interesting. In this system, the players simply follow the gate system to wherever they go. The great advantage to this system is that it introduces no new rules. The disadvantage of this system is that players do get ...

  20. Details of (Forced) Planar Travel

I can certainly imagine that some planar travel doesn't imply bringing your earthly objects along with you (Banishment, for example), but moving through gates (or, being pulled through gates) is most analogous to walking through a door and probably brings objects along as normal. The rules for shoving a creature don't mention moving their clothing or equipment either, just the creature, but ...

  21. Souls and planar travel

As far as conventional blocks of planar travel applied to disembodied souls, or specifically dead or destroyed body souls, I dunno. I'd say it's up to you. In my game, the courses souls take through the prime material and other planes has a sort of physics that can be influenced by outer planar powers, and to a lesser extent mortals.

  22. Magical Travel: Teleportation vs Plane Shifting

From a RAW perspective, if I created a Private Sanctum which prevented teleportation but allowed planar travel, I'd find it mildly frustrating if my DM ruled that planar travel triggered opportunity attacks in the area when I specifically chose to prevent the option that explicitly triggers opportunity attacks. If they wanted Opportunity ...

  23. Does planar travel go through things?

(Most) Planar travel doesn't go "through" anything within a plane (border ethereal being somewhat of an exception). As far as inside and outside spaces go with planar travel, imagine jumping over a fence. You didn't go "through" the fence to get inside it. Planar travel is the jump and the ceiling, floor, and walls of a 3d space is the fence.
