Based on a single chapter, the Captain’s Log, from Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel Dracula, the story is set aboard the Russian schooner Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – twenty-four unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence on board the ship.

The Directors Of Scream Unleash Vampire Horror With The Abigail Trailer

Were you worried that the one-two-three punch of "Morbius," "Renfield," and "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" misfiring at the box office would spell the death of vampire horror for the foreseeable future? If so, rest assured, it takes more than a few random stabs to slay this blood-thirsty genre. 2024 will see the OG cinematic creature of the night, Count Orlok, return to show everyone how it's done when Robert Eggers' "Nosferatu" remake attacks theaters next winter. Luckily, in the meantime, horror aficionados can satiate their bloodlust by checking out "Abigail," the latest from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and producer Chad Villella (the trio also known as Radio Silence).

Unlike the 2017 "Mummy" or Leigh Whannell's "The Invisible Man," this particular Universal production isn't strictly a remake of a classic horror film from the studio's library (contrary to what the monster movie's working title, "Dracula's Daughter," would imply). Instead, it's a picture that seems to have a lot in common with Radio Silence's breakout feature hit "Ready or Not," right down to sticking a bunch of morally dubious individuals in a decadent mansion and then chronicling the bloody mayhem that follows. Except, in this case, it's not a family of wealthy a-holes trying to murder their new in-law to keep a supposed blood curse at bay, it's a group of kidnappers who realize that the little girl they've taken hostage is not at all what she appears to be. The bloodiest ballet you've ever seen

Before they teamed up with "In the Heights" actor Melissa Barrera to revive the "Scream" franchise with the slasher property's fifth and sixth films, Radio Silence cemented Samara Weaving as one of our modern Scream Queens with "Ready or Not." And much like that movie put its leading lady through the wringer (gifting us with the, if not iconic then at least internet-famous, image of a blood-splattered Weaving smoking a cigarette with a distinct air of ennui), "Abigail" apparently had its directors apologizing to their cast for absolutely drenching them with gore. Not that we sickos would expect anything less from them at this stage.

Speaking of sickos, "Abigail" sees Dan Stevens — fresh off getting up close and personal with Kong's anatomy in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" — starring opposite Barrera, along with Kathryn Newton ("Lisa Frankenstein"), Kevin Durand (who, contrary to the growing popular opinion online, is not Elon Musk), and the late "Euphoria" actor Angus Cloud. Meanwhile, "Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical" star Alisha Weir portrays the titular ballerina vampire and Giancarlo Esposito rounds out the cast as the type of mysterious, menacing figure that only he can play so exquisitely.

"Abigail" pirouettes its way into theaters on April 19, 2024.

Bodkin: Will Forte Becomes a True-Crime Podcaster in Trailer for Netflix Dark Comedy Series

The first trailer for Bodkin sees Will Forte playing a true-crime podcaster in Netflix 's new dark comedy series.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Bodkin, a new dark comedy series that comes from Barack and Michelle Obama 's Higher Ground Productions. The trailer sees characters played by Forte (MacGruber, The Last Man on Earth), Siobhán Cullen (Origin, The Dry), and Robyn Cara (Doctor Jekyll, The Rising) embark on a quest to solve a cold case in a small Irish town that may not be so cold after all.

What is Bodkin about?

"Bodkin is a darkly comedic thriller about a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town," the synopsis reads. But once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined."

According to Deadline , Bodkin will have seven episodes. The series was created by Jez Scharf, who serves as a co-showrunner alongside Alex Metcalf. Barack and Michelle Obama executive produce Bodkin alongside Tonia Davis, David Flynn, Paul Lee, and Nne Ebong.

Along with Forte, Cullen, and Cara, Bodkin stars David Wilmot (Anna Karenina, Calvary) and Chris Walley (The Last Voyage of the Demeter, 1917).

Bodkin marks the first scripted drama series that Higher Ground Productions has been a part of. The company has previously produced a number of children's series - including Waffles + Mochi, We the People, and Ada Twist, Scientist - and a number of documentaries such as 2019's American Factory and 2020's Crip Camp.

The company also produced films such as 2021's Fatherhood, 2021's Worth, 2023's Rustin, and 2023's Leave the World Behind.

Bodkin releases on Netflix on May 9, 2024.

Forte plays Gilbert, a charming, open, and enthusiastic podcaster from the U.S. who’s on the hunt for his next big story. Originally from Chicago, Gilbert’s family emigrated from Cork, and is hoping to discover his Irish roots. Cullen portrays Dove, a hard-nosed investigative journalist from Dublin who has a fine-tuned bullshit detector and a healthy disdain for authority and hypocrisy. Cara plays Emmy, a bright, funny and eager to please researcher who has been helping Gilbert organize the podcast.

The First Trailer For CUCKOO Promises A Bizarre Horror Experience

Today brings us the first trailer for Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo , which has been generating quite the buzz on the festival circuit as of late. Anyone who’s seen Singer’s Luz (2018) can tell you that this is a filmmaker who marches very much to the beat of his own drum, and from the looks of things, that will continue with Cuckoo .

Let’s take a look…

Yup, that’s a Tilman Singer jam, alright. Looks to be a little less surreal than Luz , perhaps, but there’s still plenty of weirdness going on here … and, by all accounts (from those who’ve been lucky enough to catch this one already), that’s exactly what we’re gonna get.

Cuckoo stars Hunter Schafer ( Euphoria ), Dan Stevens ( The Guest ), Jessica Henwick ( Underwater ), Marton Csókás ( Freelance ), Greta Fernández ( Santo ) and Jan Bluthardt ( Luz ). Written and directed by Singer, the film tells the following tale:

“Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.”

This is just one of several high-profile and heavily buzzed-about horror releases from NEON this year, including the recently released Immaculate and this summer’s Longlegs . So far, NEON has been knocking the marketing out of the park on these releases, and Cuckoo is no exception. This thing looks utterly bonkers and we cannot wait to check it out.
