How to book an appointment at an Apple Store’s Genius Bar

If you need help with an iPhone, iPad, Mac or other Apple product–whether it’s broken or faulty, or you just can’t figure out how to do something with it–the company will help you solve the issue. Apple says many problems can be solved over the phone or by chat or email, but one thing that sets it aside from other companies is its willingness to offer hands-on support from in-store Apple Geniuses.

You can speak to a Genius at the Genius Bar in an Apple Store . But in order to do so you will need to book an appointment with Apple in advance–you can’t just show up. (Well, there are a limited number of walk-in appointments available and they might be able to squeeze you in, but it’s likely you would have to wait for hours and you might have a wasted journey.)

In this article, we show you how to set up an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store. But note that many questions can be answered using Apple’s online tools , by phoning Apple Support, by asking in the Apple Support Communities , or by tweeting at @AppleSupport .

To make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store (which is free), go to the Genius Bar page on Apple’s website (here are the links to the U.S. , U.K. , Canada , and Australia .) This page provides details for getting help via chat, a phone call, or email if your problem is software-based. Keep in mind that you will need to log in with your Apple ID to schedule an appointment or use other sections of the support site.

For those who can’t get to an Apple Store, the Genius Bar site can direct you to Apple Authorized Service Providers and information about posting your device to an Apple Repair Center.

If you’re keen to get hands-on support with your hardware issues via the Genius Bar, you will need to scroll down on the Genius Bar page and click on “Get hardware help.”

Apple doesn’t let you simply book a Genius Bar appointment–the company wants to attempt to solve your problem online first. After you click “Get hardware help” you go to a website where you’ll have the options to either “View your products” or “View support activity.” Click “View your product” and Apple wants to you identify the product, describe the problem, and then it will offer support documents that could help. It also provides option to chat or call a support person. We recommend speaking to Apple by phone or chat if possible, as this might save you a lot of time.

It appears that the only way to schedule an in-person Genius Bar appointment if there’s the possibility that your hardware needs repair. If that’s the case, the website will show you a cost estimate and the ability to find the nearest Genius Bar. In some situations you also have the option to send your device for repair. When you click the “Find a location” button, a listing of the nearest Apple Stores appears.

You’ll be able to see the store’s next available time slot for you to see an Apple Genius. You’ll have to enter a phone number so Apple can “guide you to your appointment.”

A confirmation window appears with he details of your appointment. If it all looks good, click Reserve now.”

Before popping into a store, backing up your device is always recommended. It will also be useful for you to bring a photo ID with you, which matches your reservation name.

Once you’re set, all you’ll need to do is turn up at your appointment time and tell a Genius that you’ve arrived!

Use the Apple Support app to book an Apple appointment

You can also use the Apple Support app to book an appointment at an Apple Store. To do this, download and launch the Apple Support app.

Once you’re in the app, you will be asked to allow the app to use your location. If you tap Don’t Allow, you will have to provide location information manually. Make your selection, and then tap Continue .

Tap Search at the top. An expanded search page will appear. Type “Genius” in the box and then select one of the Genius Bar results that appear. This will take you to the Genius Bar section where you can make an appointment.

When you get to the Apple Store at the time of your appointment, you can use the Apple Store app on your iPhone to check in and let the staff know you’ve arrived.

Thankfully, it’s super easy using your Apple tech. So, if you want to learn how to book an Apple Genius Bar appointment, here’s how.

How to make a Genius Bar appointment on iPhone and iPad using the Apple Support app

  • Open the Apple Support app on an iOS or iPadOS device
  • Tap the device you're having issues with
  • Select your issue from the categories list
  • Find the screwdriver icon and tap Find Authorized Locations
  • Choose a store to visit
  • Choose a date and time for your appointment

The easiest way to book a Genius Bar appointment is via an iOS or iPadOS device . When signed in to your Apple ID on one of these devices, booking an Apple Genius Bar appointment is really effortless, thanks to the ever-useful Apple Support app.

If you don't already have it installed, you need to download Apple Support from the App Store first.

1. Open the Apple Support app, then tap the device you're having issues with under My Devices.

2. Select your issue by tapping on the relevant categories . If your issue doesn't need a Genius Bar visit (certain software issues) you'll be given the option to speak to an agent by live chat or phone call, which you can select by tapping whichever method you'd prefer .

3. If your issue requires a visit to a Genius Bar, you'll see an option to Bring in for Repair. This could be underneath other suggestions for things you may be able to do to try and fix the issue yourself first. To book a Genius Bar appointment, tap Find Authorized Locations underneath the screwdriver icon.

4. You'll now see a list of your nearest Apple Stores with a Genius Bar. If your location is incorrect or if you'd prefer to search somewhere else, you can search by city or ZIP code in the search bar at the top. Once you've found your preferred store, tap the store's name to continue.

5. On this page, you can choose your preferred appointment time and date , before tapping Reserve to confirm your appointment. Enter your phone number if you'd like to receive confirmation and updates by text. You'll now receive an email to confirm everything.

How to book an Apple Genius Bar appointment via the Apple website

If your iPhone or iPad isn't working or you're on a Mac, the best way to book an Apple Genius Bar appointment is via Apple's support page. You can access this page through any web browser. You'll need to sign in with your Apple ID, so make sure you know your sign in credentials before going ahead.

1. Head to Apple's Get Support page , then click Sign in . Follow the instructions and sign in using your Apple ID .

2. Once you're signed in, click Choose a product to see a list of the devices linked to your Apple ID.

3. You'll now see a list of the devices linked to your Apple ID. Click the device you're having issues with .

4. In this section, choose what the issue is by clicking on the relevant categories . After choosing click Continue underneath "See your support options".

5. For issues that don't necessarily require a visit to a Genius Bar (certain software issues), you'll be recommended to speak with an agent, either by live chat or by phone, which you can do by clicking on whichever method you'd prefer .

6. For issues which warrant a Genius Bar visit, you'll see the option "Bring in for Repair". To book your Genius Bar appointment, click Find a location .

7. Based on your location, you'll see a list of your nearest Apple Stores with a Genius Bar. If your location is incorrect or if you wish to visit a Genius Bar somewhere else, click the town/city name at the top of the page. Otherwise, click the name of the Apple Store you want to take your device to .

8. You can schedule your visit to the Genius Bar by clicking the date and time you want. When you're done, click Continue , then click Reserve now to confirm. You'll receive an email confirmation of your Genius Bar appointment.

I have used Apple support so many times mostly just for iPhone. I can’t say how grateful I am for the patients and the amount of time that it takes for me to understand and get the problem solved that they have given me incredible incredible patience as I said before because I am technologically impaired I’m almost 80 years old and I still can’t figure some of this stuff out. If it wasn’t for technicians that have been patient with me, I probably only be able to text and make phone calls on my phone. I love my Apple devices and again I am most grateful for the patience and help.. thanks again to all who have had the patience to help me the patience it takes for me to get through my problems for me to be able to use my devices be able to use my devices😅

Outstanding Support

I’ve owned quite a number of Apple devices and loved them all. I’ve had to rely on Apple Support many times. I’ve found them to be extremely helpful and take all the time necessary to answer any questions and provide invaluable assistance. This is true online, by message, email, or at the local Apple Store I go to. In particular their phone support and local store are out of this world. They’ve stayed on the phone with me for hours at a time. All the people I’ve talked with are so kind and pleasant to talk with by phone or in person. I highly recommend Apple if you want a fabulous support team.

Apple getting worse with “progress”

I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 3. Now I’m on the iPhone 15 pro max, which is marketed as the best one ever. The battery is at 100% efficiency yet the phone has to be fully recharged twice a day with minimum usage or kept plugged in for constant usage. The action button is the worst idea ever. I loved just being able to switch sound on or off. Now I have to go into my settings for everything. And the only one that works is the flashlight, which is pointless because it’s also on my Home Screen. Oh and the health sleep settings made me late for work. My alarm did not go off when I set it because my sleep settings ended after my alarm time. I never even set it by the way. The phone decided all that for me. I tried using the Apple support app but the bot couldn’t understand the problems, no human called me, and I gave up. I begged Apple to swap me back to my previous model and it wasn’t an option so now I’m stuck with this intolerable thing.

Maybe you have a cracked iPhone screen or your MacBook Pro isn't charging properly. Whatever your issue, there's an app for that! If you need tech support or repairs for your Apple device, it's easy to set up a service appointment right from your iPhone.

Sure, you could just grab your busted device and head down to the Apple store. But you're going to get there, give them your name, and then wait around until an appointment becomes available. Depending on how busy they are, that can take a while---sometimes hours. It's much more convenient to make an appointment ahead of time. And you can do it right from your iPhone or iPad, or in any web browser.

Assuming your iPhone or iPad still functional (or you've got a spare), you can make an Apple Store appointment right from your device.

If you don't have it already, download the Apple Support app from the App Store.

Launch the app, and tap the "Get Started" button on the Welcome screen.

On the Get Support page, you'll see a list of all your Apple devices and services.

Note: You can only make an in-person appointment for hardware support. For help setting up products and services, select the option to call or chat with Apple Support, or walk in to your local Apple Store.

Scroll through the list, and select the device you'd like to get help with. Or type your issue into the search bar.

Follow the prompts to select your issue.

Your recommended support option will be shown at the top of the screen. Under the Bring In For Repair banner, tap the "Find Locations Now" button.

In some cases, Apple directs you to call, email, or chat with support first, so you might have to do some digging to find the option to set up a Genius Bar appointment.

If you don't see the Bring In For Repair menu, it may be hidden. Tap the "See All" link. On the All Support Options screen, tap the "Bring In For Repair" option.

On the following screen, you'll see a list of nearby Apple Stores where you can make a Genius Bar appointment. The locations closest to you are listed first.

You can also tap the "Map" button at the top of the screen to see nearby Apple Store locations on a map.

Select the location where you'd like to make an appointment, and then choose a date and time that work for you.

On the Summary page, check the details of your appointment. When you're satisfied, tap the "Reserve" button at the bottom of the screen.

Before you head to your appointment, be sure to read Apple's instructions for preparing your device for service. Most importantly, you'll want to back up your device to avoid losing data.

If your iPhone or iPad is broken (or you don't have one) and you can't use the Apple Support app, don't worry! You can also set up an appointment online using your Mac or any other device with an Internet connection.

Open your browser and go to the Apple Support website . Type your support issue into the search bar, or click the device or service you need help with.

Click the "Start A Repair Request Today" link.

Click the "Bring In For Repair" button, and then follow the prompts to set up an appointment.

If you'd rather avoid going to an Apple Store (or you just don't have one nearby), you can also send in your device for repairs. With this option, Apple will help you arrange shipping to a nearby Apple Repairs Center. Although this option saves you a trip to the Apple Store, keep in mind, repairs may take up to five business days. Just remember to back up and wipe your device before shipping it to Apple.

If you need in-person support or repairs for your Apple product, you can reserve an appointment at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar. While COVID-19 procedures are in place, you can also make an appointment to shop for new products at many Apple Store locations. We'll show you how to book an in-person appointment at your Apple Store (or an Apple Authorized Service Provider) to get hardware support for your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and any other supported Apple products.

Things You Should Know

  • Genius Bar diagnostics are free, but you may need to pay for support if your product is out of warranty.
  • Make in-store appointments for hardware troubleshooting and repairs, but use online or phone support options for software issues.
  • While COVID-19 measures are in place, many Apple Stores let you schedule visits to browse products and process returns.

Step 1 Go to https://getsupport.apple.com...

  • Genius Bar appointments are free, as are most diagnostics. If your product is out of warranty or you have accidental damage that isn't covered by your warranty, you may have to pay a fee for the repair if the repair can be done.
  • Some repairs may require the Genius Bar to send your product to another location.

Step 2 Select the product you need help with.

  • If you choose Mac , you'll be asked to choose either Mac desktops or Mac notebooks on the next screen.

Step 3 Choose the option that best reflects your issue.

  • If you have two-step authentication turned on, you'll need to confirm the authentication code that appears on one of your other Apple devices' screen to continue.

Step 6 Enter the serial number or IMEI of your product if prompted.

  • If you're not sure where to find the requested number on your product, click the link below the field that says Show how to find your serial number/IMEI for instructions.
  • If you can't get the requested information right now, click Skip this step to continue.

Step 7 Search for a location.

  • You can book a shopping appointment in any web browser on your computer, phone, or tablet.
  • If you have the Apple Store app, you can also book a shopping appointment by scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the main page and selecting Reserve a shopping session .

This article explains how to make an Apple Genius bar appointment, how to describe the problem you're having, and how to reschedule or cancel an appointment.

You can use the Apple Store or Apple Support apps for this process , too. If you're on a computer, follow the below steps to reserve time at the Genius Bar.

Find Your Product From the Apple Support Site

The first part of the process for scheduling an Apple Genius Bar appointment is selecting the product you need help with. You have several options for finding your device.

Genius Bar appointments involve hardware-related issues only. Apple offers online support first before you can seek an in-person appointment option.

Begin by going to the Apple Support website .

Scroll down to the Get Support section and select Start now .

Under View your products , select Sign in to log in to your Apple ID/Apple Account and view a list of your Apple devices.

Alternatively, you can enter details about your issue in the Tell us what's happening bar. You could also click Choose a product under See all products to find your model.

Next, click the product you want to get help with at the Genius Bar.

Once you've selected the product you need help with, Apple asks you to detail the issue you're experiencing.

A set of common help topics appears for your selected product. Select the category that most closely matches the help you need.

A number of topics within that category will appear. Select the one that best matches your need.

If there isn't a match, describe the problem in the Or, tell us in your own words field .

Depending on the category and problem you've selected, a number of follow-up suggestions may appear. If a Genius Bar appointment is an option, move on to the next step.

For some topics, the Apple site doesn't offer a Genius Bar appointment as an option. Instead, it suggests a phone call or online chat with Apple support. You'll be prompted with possible ways to solve your problem without going to the Genius Bar. Feel free to try them if you like; they may work and save you a trip.

Select Apple Store, Date, and Time for Genius Bar Appointment

If a Schedule a Repair appointment at the Genius Bar is an option, select Find a location .

If you don't see this option, you may need to go back a few steps and select another support topic that offers an in-person appointment. If you're asked to and aren't already signed in to your Apple Account, do so.

A map displays a list of nearby Apple Stores. You can use the filters above the location results to view the first available appointments at each location.

If you need help with an iPhone, click the Carrier filter above the list of list of locations to select your service provider.

Click on each store to see it on a map, how far away it is from you, and to see what days and times are available for Genius Bar appointments.

When you find the store you want, select the day and time for your appointment.

Appointment Confirmation and Cancellation Options

Your Genius Bar appointment has been made for the store, date, and time you selected.

You'll see a confirmation of your appointment. The details of the appointment are listed there. The confirmation will also be emailed to you.

If you need to modify or cancel the reservation, you can click Reschedule now or Cancel on this page.

If you need to make a change later, go to the confirmation email and click the options there. You'll be taken to Apple's site to make changes there.

The Apple Genius Bar is a dedicated tech support service in Apple's retail stores. Customers experiencing problems with products or applications can make an appointment for one-on-one assistance with an expert. Experts have multiple certification levels to best assist customers.

After you make your appointment, you'll receive an email with your reservation details. To cancel your appointment, access that email and select the Manage my reservations link. Then, select Cancel on the reservation page. Alternatively, if you have the Apple Store app, pull up your appointment details and select Cancel .

To find a nearby Apple Store, visit Apple's Find a Store web page . You can search by location, ZIP code, or keywords, such as a mall's name. Select Complete Store List to see every Apple Store location.

While it is not required, you take a chance with a walk in. Many times Apple stores are extremely busy places, and those with appointments will get preference over a walk in. You can look up the store you wish to go to at the Apple web site and book the appointment online.

I have password questions on my iPhone and I still cannot send emails off my iPhone. I can receive emails. I cannot send them. I need to get in my car and drive to the Apple Store and get this resolved. I do not want to handle this on the phone. I want to drive in my car to Apple Store and resolve. I'm done attempting to resolve over the phone. I'm 10 days into this and we're not resolving anything. The River Oaks/Highland Village location on Westheimer Rd in Houston is perfect.
