P&O Cruises Celebrates 90 Years of Pioneering the Perfect Aussie Holiday
Saturday, April 1, 2023
Australia’s most popular cruise line, P&O Cruises has made waves in Brisbane today in spectacular style.
Kicking off its national 90th anniversary Thank You tour in Queensland, P&O welcomed more than 90 guests including crew, both past and present, suppliers and avid cruisers on board the magnificent Pacific Encounter.
In a nod to the past nine decades of being proudly Australian, crew members thrilled guests by carrying out a colourful streamer throwing ceremony, while guests shared beautiful stories created during their travels onboard during the past 90 years.
In true Queensland fashion, local produce and entertainment took centre stage as the iconic brand celebrates almost a century of pioneering the perfect Aussie holiday.
World renowned didgeridoo player Jahmarley Dawson performed for Koomurri east coast Aboriginal Culture troupe, with an indigenous version of Happy Birthday before accompanying 90 of the ship’s crew singing Happy Birthday to P&O Cruises. The Captain of the ship cut the 90cm tall cake which was followed by the pouring of the impressive 90 glass champagne tower.
Across 2022/23, P&O Cruises will see more than 118 ship visits across Queensland, providing more than $500 million, both directly and indirectly to the state’s economy.
Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises’ President, Marguerite Fitzgerald said it is no coincidence that P&O is officially launching its national 90th Thank You tour in Queensland.
“Holding almost 40 per cent of our market, Queensland is the epicentre of cruising. Our guests love cruising in Queensland, and we love cruising here,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
“Over the past decade, more than 1.5 million guests have experienced the wonders of Queensland and by 2025, that number will reach 2 million people, both interstate and internationally.
“There is no better place on earth to experience cruising than on board a P&O cruise in the sunshine state.
“From the Great Barrier Reef to Tangalooma and across the islands of the Pacific, we visit communities up and down the coast and make many holiday dreams come true.”
Ms Fitzgerald said P&O Cruises looks forward to celebrating its anniversary in Fremantle next followed by Sydney and Melbourne.
“Pacific Encounter only recently came out of dry dock in Singapore with significant upgrades including twin racer waterslides, Edge experience as well as brilliant food and beverage offerings,” she said.
“We can’t wait to continue our festivities on board across Australia as we thank our guests for making this milestone one to remember.”

P&O’s Massive 90th Birthday Bonanza!
Posted by Chisa de Ruiter | Jun 16, 2023 | Cruise News | 0 |
For nine decades, the iconic cruise line has journeyed to some of Australia’s most beautiful destinations, and this year P&O Cruises are thanking those who made it possible – its crew, guests and the communities in which it visits.
P&O Cruises is giving away 30 three-night cruises with entries open until June 30. Marguerite Fitzgerald, President Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia, said this giveaway was an important way to recognise and thank Australians for their ongoing support.
“Throughout our 90-year history, we have celebrated life’s milestones, big and small.
We’re pleased to give away 30 short cruises so Australians can make more unforgettable memories on board,” said Ms. Fitzgerald.
Until June 30, Australians can visit pocruises.com.au/competition and fill out the requested details to complete the form online. Winners will be drawn on July 4 and notified within two days via email. All winning cruises must depart from an Australian port.
