In partnership with Night Time Stories Ltd, the trio recently announced news of A LA SALA, Khruangbin’s first studio LP in four years - out April 5 on Dead Oceans. The band introduced the project with ‘A Love International’, a song illustrating the reflective, celebratory nature of A LA SALA with its heartfelt vocal flutterings underneath propulsive guitar and bass interplay. 

The latest single ‘May Ninth’ followed recently, evoking the group’s signature, wistful warmth over environmental sounds both man-made and natural (in this case, actual birds singing in the background). 

From the get-go, Khruangbin’s journey has been its own: a sound and visual representation with few precedents, ignoring pop expectations, relying only on internal inspirations, and many visions. It’s a mindset of penetrating the self, connecting to the surrounding world, and modelling your own life experiences. The building blocks then for A LA SALA’s 12 songs were jigsaw pieces found in Khruangbin’s creative past, parts of the band not lost, but not yet tapped into. Having stockpiled ideas originally set down as off-the-cuff recordings (voice memos made at sound checks, on long voyages, as absentminded epiphanies), they began fitting those pieces together in the studio for A LA SALA.

Over the last two years, Khruangbin has remained unwavering in their musical vision, selling out shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and London’s Alexandra Palace. They’ve released five live LPs showcasing their stage prowess - featuring storied guests such as Toro y Moi, Men I Trust and Nubya Garcia - collaborated with Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré honouring Vieux’s late father, Ali Farka Touré, with the album Ali highlighted everywhere from The New York Times and NPR (“labyrinthine fusion of dub, blues and Malian grooves,”), to GQ who says “there’s a placelessness to the band Khruangbin that, counterintuitively, gives them their gravity.” That same year the band released their second collaborative EP with Leon Bridges, the sultry, chart-topping Texas Moon, which arrived to widespread acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, Uproxx, Vulture, FADER while pushing the boundaries of psychedelic R&B. 

Next month Khruangbin are poised to do it all over again, mapping out an expansive run of global live dates through 2024. With festivals across the summer including the likes of Coachella, Bonnaroo, Latitude and Nos Alive, the band’s recently-announced North American tour is now joined by headline dates across Europe and the UK as detailed below. Sharing the stage with them at Dublin’s 3Arena will be Peter Cat Recording Co. Formed in New Delhi, India around 2010, Peter Cat Recording Co. is a group that's mutated over time, shedding members and accruing more, always evolving musically with each album: from gypsy jazz to psychedelic cabaret; ballroom waltzes to epic space disco; bossa supernova to uneasy listening.

The story of Peter Cat Recording Co. has unfolded across multiple continents, a cast of creators and perhaps more than anything, an unwavering vision to be that band from India that will challenge just what music from the region can be. In broadening their listener base to North America, UK, Europe and Oceania, they have presented a canonical reference point to both Indian and international fans alike: there is tremendous value in persistence and not pandering to the expectations of others. In India, not doing so is an unprecedented feat, and a testament to just how much their audience was waiting for that door to open.

Peter Cat Recording Co. is made up of founder Suryakant Sawhney on guitars/vocals, Karan Singh on drums, Dhruv Bhola on Bass/Samples, Rohit Gupta on Keys/Trumpet, and Kartik Sundareshan on Guitars/Trumpets.

I have discovered Khruangbin not long ago and I could not stop listening to them since!! the connection I feel with their music is something rare and I was literally over the moon when I bought my ticket to see them live. And they did not disappoint :) The show was fantastic, the sound amazing, the tunes so inspiring and mind-blowing!! I loved the energetic vibe, the eclectic style and absolutely excellent performance these guys managed to bring on stage. Genious!

Led beforehand by the brilliant Harvey Sutherland, Khruangbin put on a SHOW. Straddling around the stage in unison, the band delivered not only famous hits but a medley of hip hop classics, fused in with Khruangbin's slick style. Led with gorgeous guitar licks, on par drums and bass, the band is wrapping their tour to go record some new material which is very promising. Great vibes, a very warm reception of what has been one of the most refreshing acts of the decade, with a live performance just as good as the records I love to listen to at home. Thank you Khruangbin, thank you.

We attended Khruangbin's show last night with a group of about 25 of us, and it was awesome! We've seen Khruangbin play in several cities so it was epic to see them in their element in their hometown, Houston, TX.

Seemed like the energy of the crowd was at an all time high anticipating the incredible show that we were about to experience. Laura Lee's entrance on the stage with the unveiling of a body hugging suit that accentuated her curves enhanced her performance, and Marko's shiny suit sizzled with the light-show in perfect tempo to the music. All the while DJ's cool, calm, and ever-so steady drums created a perfect musical tapestry for the evening.

Having other local Houston artists and friends, Charlie Perez and Will Van Horn accompany Khruangbin on percussion and the steel guitar sweetened the sounds echoing throughout the night and into the morning.

Khruangbin continues to get better and better, and their performances energize the diverse crowds that can't get enough of their music. I feel like we're still on a high from last night!

Khruangbin to play Glasgow, Manchester, and London for their A La Sala Tour.

Khruangbin are bringing their A La Sala tour to the UK and Ireland, following an extensive run across North America. The band will play multiple shows this autumn to promote their new album, A La Sala, as well as a headline slot at Latitude Festival earlier in the year. Tickets are available at 10am on Friday 15 March.

Khruangbin announce 2024 UK and European tour

The 11-date tour takes in shows in Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin and London

Khruangbin have announced details of a UK and European tour to take place in November – see the full list of dates below.

In January, the band announced their new album ‘A La Sala’ , alongside the single ‘A Love International’. The album comes out on April 5 via Dead Oceans, in partnership with Night Time Stories Ltd., and you can pre-order it here .

The newly-announced dates are in addition to an extensive North American tour that begins with an appearance at Coachella Festival on April 14, and runs through to Bonnaroo Festival on June 14. Following that, the band will travel to Europe for a series of festival shows, including Latitude , Roskilde , Rock Werchter and Bilbao BBK .

The new tour kicks off at Amsterdam’s AFAS on November 1 and runs for eleven dates. They will play Glasgow, Manchester and two nights at London’s Eventim Apollo, before wrapping in Dublin’s 3Arena on November 24. All dates will feature Peter Cat Recording Co. as the opening act.

Tickets are available for members of the band’s Khru Club from 10am on March 12, while the Spotify Fans first presale is at 10am on March 13. Local/venue presale is 10am on March 14, while general sale commences at 10am on March 15. You can get your tickets here .

The American trio worked with singer-songwriter  Leon Bridges  on a second collaborative EP, entitled ‘Texas Moon’, back in 2022 and the new album marks their first original music as a band since 2020, aside from various remixes.

The band also graced  NME ‘s cover back in 2020.  Speaking about their perceived rapid rise to fame at the time, the band’s Laura Lee said: “You have no idea how long it’s going to last when you’re starting out. The whole of last year was a real ‘Holy shit!’ moment. We set out to be a worldwide band – and we got it.”

“‘ A LA SALA ,’ I used to scream it around my house when I was a little girl, to get everybody in the living room; to get my family together. That’s kind of what recording the new album felt like. Emotionally there was a desire to get back to square-one between the three of us, to where we came from–in sonics and in feeling. Let’s get back there. ” – Laura Lee Ochoa.

The title makes it clear. A LA SALA (“To the Room” in Spanish), the fourth studio album by Khruangbin , is an exercise in returning in order to go further, and do so on your own terms. It extends the air of mystery and sanctity that’s key to how bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson, Jr. and guitarist Mark “Marko” Speer approach music. Yet if 2020’s Mordechai, the last studio album Khruangbin made without collaborators, was a party record whose ensuing post-lockdown tour enhanced the band’s musical reputation far and wide, A LA SALA is the measured morning after. It’s a gorgeously airy album made only in the company of the group’s longtime engineer Steve Christensen, with minimal overdubs. It is a porthole onto the bounties powering Khruangbin’s vision, a reimagining and refueling for the long haul ahead. A LA SALA scales Khruangbin down to scale up, a creative strategy with the future in mind.

It is also a response to the unique moment Khruangbin finds itself in now: following a decade spent cultivating extraordinary music paths, beginning a year when they’ll perform for more people, in more iconic spaces, staging a live show that pushes a creative envelope peculiar to them alone. 2024 feels like both marker and pivot, cementing Khruangbin’s stature as a commercially and critically successful group that continues to be guided by creative possibilities.
