Scottie Scheffler has been the most consistent player on a golf course this year.

He came into the Masters as the heavy favorite to win because of his dominant play in 2024 and nothing changed this week.

Before winning his second green jacket on Sunday, the world No. 1 had finished in the top 10 in seven of his previous eight tournaments.

Here’s a closer look at how Scheffler has done this year, beginning with his most recent tournament:

  • Texas Children’s Open: T-2
  • Players Championship: Win
  • Arnold Palmer Championship: Win
  • The Genesis Invitational: T-10
  • WM Phoenix Open: T-3
  • Pebble Beach Pro-Am: T-6
  • American Express: T-17
  • The Sentry: T-5

It would be hard for any college golfer to even imagine what Ohio State’s Neal Shipley experienced.

Get invited to the Masters, win low amateur and then play the final round with Tiger Woods at Augusta National.

Shipley described the experience as a “dream week” and raved about how gracious the five-time Masters champion was during their round Sunday.

“Being out there with Tiger, we were chatting. We talked a lot about just golf, (his son) Charlie and just normal things,” Shipley said. “He’s such a normal guy and really cool. He was great to me all day.”

Shipley shot 73 and finished tied for 53rd place at 12-over 300.

Doesn’t really matter. He is walking away with some incredible moments to cherish for a lifetime.

“This week is going to be one of the best weeks of my life and something that I remember forever,” Shipley said, adding that about the only thing that could possibly top it would be winning a green jacket one day.

“It’s a very special time for both of us. I can’t put into words what it means to win this tournament again,” Scheffler said during a CBS interview in Butler Cabin.

“I really can’t put into words what it’s going to be like to be a father for the first time. I’m looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith,” he added.

“Its been a long week here without her, but I’m just looking forward to getting home.”

“I think if you just keep playing, skills are going to show up,” Aberg told reporters as the tournament closed on Sunday. “I think once you stop playing, that’s when you — the skills are not showing up, and I think we did a great job of that.”

“Keep the ball in front of you, and there’s a lot of holes left to be played,” he added.

“I think me finishing well after those couple holes were pretty encouraging to see.”

There haven’t been a whole lot of dramatic finishes at the Masters over the last decade, and Scottie Scheffler made sure that streak continued.

Scheffler held a three-shot lead with six holes remaining as he went for his second green jacket in the last three years.

That lead grew to four before it was over.

It was the seventh time in the last 11 years that the Augusta National winner cleared the field by at least three strokes.

Of the other four, three were decided by single stroke, but even that’s a bit misleading.

Hideki Matsuyama in 2021 and Tiger Woods in 2019 both clinched their one-shot wins with bogeys at the 72nd hole.

Patrick Reed claimed the green jacket in 2018 with a par at the final hole at preserve his one-shot victory. And Sergio Garcia defeated Justin Rose in a playoff in 2017.

More typical of the last decade: Jon Rahm’s four-stroke win a year ago, Scheffler’s three-stroke triumph in 2022, Dustin Johnson’s five-shot romp in 2020, Danny Willett’s three-stroke win in 2016, Jordan Spieth’s four-shot rout in 2015 and Bubba Watson’s three-stroke victory in 2014.

Scottie Scheffler won his second Masters in three years Sunday, shooting an impressive 4-under 68 to pull away from a trio of challengers on the back nine and finish 11 under for the championship.

Ludvig Aberg, making his Masters debut, was second at 7 under. Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood finished in a tie for third at 4 under.

The 27-year-old Scheffler was tied with Aberg, Homa and Morikawa while playing the eighth hole, but he responded with three straight birdies. The others began to falter, and Scheffler cruised from there to another drama-free green jacket.

Scheffler won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship earlier this year, and the Masters gives him a third win in his last four starts.

The other? Scheffler finished short putt to finish second at the Houston Open.

Scottie Scheffler is headed toward his second Masters title while his pregnant wife, Meredith, watches from home.

She is usually a fixture at events he plays, but she decided to skip the Masters with their first child due at the end of the month.

She would have had to go into labor several weeks early for it to have been a problem, but Scheffler insisted this week he was willing to withdraw while leading the Masters if he got the call.

Doesn’t look like that will be the case. Instead, he’ll have another green jacket to take home to this new kiddo.

Scheffler has made things look easy on the course, at least compared to the rest of the competition. Off it has been another issue. He admitted that his wife usually cooks the breakfast, though he managed some eggs and toast on Saturday.

Tyrrell Hatton matched his best score at the Masters with a 69, and it could not have come at a better time.

Hatton was assured of finishing among the top 12 players who earn invitations back to Augusta National next year.

That’s a big deal for Hatton because he’s now with LIV Golf. He’s No. 19 in the world ranking, but he only has access to world ranking points in the majors, and he likely would have fallen out of the top 50 by the end of the year.

The only other LIV players in the top 12 are Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith, and both are still on five-year exemptions from winning majors.

Joaquin Niemann finished out of the top 20. He received a special exemption from Augusta National from winning the Australian Open and his willingness to compete outside LIV Golf.

Will he be back next year?

“We’ll find a way,” Niemann said.

In a span of about five minutes, Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa took a penalty stroke for finding the water, Max Homa took one for an unplayable lie, and steady Scottie Scheffler found himself heading toward a second green jacket.

Scheffler was at 8 under with a three-shot lead on the rest of the field.

Those four were tied at 6 under at point as they approached the turn. Scheffler ran off three straight birdies to put the pressure on the other three, and it appeared that Aberg, Morikawa and Homa cracked just a bit.

Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa found the water at the par-4 11th just minutes apart on Sunday, and two of the closest pursuers to Scottie Scheffler suddenly found themselves falling out of contention.

Scheffler is at 9 under and has a two-shot lead as Max Homa — who just might be the only one who can catch him — hit his tee shot at the par-3 12th into the bushes behind the green.

Scheffler had been in a four-way tie for the lead at the eighth hole. By the 11th hole, he was starting to eye a second green jacket.

Scottie Scheffler has ripped off three consecutive birdies around the turn at the Masters, giving him a two-shot advantage on Max Homa and Ludvig Aberg with eight holes standing in front of him and a second green jacket.

Scheffler made a nice putt at the eighth, then stuck his approach to a couple of feet for a tap-in at the ninth.

The world’s top-ranked player, who is widely considered the best ball-striker in the game, then gave himself another good look at the 10th and got that putt to go to reach 9 under for the championship.

Aberg will be falling back soon. He dunked his second shot at No. 11 in the water left of the green.

Scottie Scheffler is headed to the back nine at the Masters exactly as he began Sunday: with a one-shot lead.

The world’s top-ranked player had fallen into a four-way tie at 6 under before a birdie at the eighth and a sublime approach shot at the ninth, which nearly spun back into the hole.

Scheffler got to 8 under, one shot ahead of Ludvig Aberg, who was playing in the group just ahead.

Aberg played the first nine in 3 under, hardly looking like a nervous Masters debutant. In fact, his only flub came while walking from the ninth green to the 10th tee.

He was fistbumping fans and one of them knocked the bar he was eating right out of his hand. Aberg gave the fan a wry smile and walked on.

Max Homa played a steady first nine and was two shots back of Scheffler at 6 under. Collin Morikawa left his third shot at No. 9 in the bunker and missed his bogey putt, and that dropped him back to 5 under.

Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Ludwig Aberg each dropped in birdies to go 7 under and now are in a three-way tie for the lead.

Scheffler and Morikawa birdied No. 8 and Aberg went low on No. 9. Max Homa, playing with Aberg, is one shot back at 6 under.

There’s a four-way tie atop the Masters leaderboard.

Augusta National newcomer Ludvig Aberg birdied the seventh hole and Scottie Scheffler bogeyed, joining Collin Morikawa at 6 under. Then Max Homa made it a foursome with a birdie at No. 8.

Aberg is ranked ninth in the world, but has never played a competitive round before at Augusta National.

If Aberg can pull it out, he will become the first player to win his Masters debut since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.

Tyrrell Hatton isn’t agitated anymore, at least he isn’t playing like it.

The Englishman is 5-under par through 13 holes, and has pulled within five shots of the leader Scottie Scheffler at 2 under.

Hatton questioned his ongoing bad luck at the Masters following a 4-putt bogey from 30 feet on the 18th hole Saturday that dropped him from 1 over to 3 over for the tournament. He blamed it on Augusta’s slick greens.

His luck appears to have changed, along with the greens.

Scottie Scheffler is the 2022 Masters champ and world No. 1.

Collin Morikawa has won a couple of majors. Max Homa and Xander Schauffele, the Olympic gold medalist, might be the best two players without a major.

Then there’s Ludvig Aberg, the 24-year-old Swede making his Masters debut.

Many casual fans might not have heard of him, even though he’s ranked ninth in the world after a string of top-10s that includes a second at Pebble Beach.

So here’s a reason to root for him: He’s just like us.

“Golf stresses me out. It does,” Aberg said, probably eliciting a knowing nod from amateurs everywhere. “I think there’s a lot of things that stress me out. I’m just pretty good at managing it, I guess.”

He’ll need to be really good. He’s just two shots off the lead with 13 holes left in the Masters.

Scottie Scheffler’s lead at the Masters is down to one after he made bogey on fourth hole following a poor approach shot.

Scheffler’s lead is one over Max Homa, who is playing in the group ahead of him.

Max Homa made a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole in the second round of the Masters.

He probably had no idea it would be 50 hours before he made another.

Homa ended his streak 33 holes without a birdie when he got it done on the par-5 second hole to pull within one shot of the lead. The good news for Homa is going that long without a birdie didn’t hurt his chances.

Conditions were so tough the last few days that par felt acceptable. Homa stayed in the game on Saturday with 17 pars and one bogey for a 73.

Tiger Woods says he intends to play in golf’s other three majors.

“I’m going to do my homework going forward at Pinehurst, Valhalla and Troon, but that’s kind of the game plan,” Woods said after finishing 16-over par, his worst tournament score over a career that spans three decades.

Next up is the PGA Championship that will be played at Valhalla Country Club May 16-19.

Then comes the U.S. Open in Pinehurst No. 2 on June 13-16 and the British Open at Royal Troon on July 18-21.

The leaders are on the course for the final round of the Masters, where Scottie Scheffler is chasing his second green jacket, Collin Morikawa is chasing his third major championship and Max Homa is trying to win his first.

And there are low scores to be had, with several having shot in the 60’s on Sunday.

Scheffler began the day 7 over, one shot ahead of Morikawa, the only player in the field this week to play his first three rounds under part.

Scheffler won the Masters two years ago and is the world’s No. 1 player.

Morikawa won the PGA Championship in 2020 and the British Open in 2021. If he can win on Sunday, he would head to Pinehurst for the U.S. Open in June with a chance at the career Grand Slam.

Scheffler and Morikawa are playing in the final pairing. Just ahead of them are Homa and Ludvig Aberg, who is trying to become the first player since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters in his debut.

Tom Kim and Kurt Kitayama proved to the leaders heading out later Sunday that there are low scores to be had at Augusta National today.

Both of them bounced back from dismal third rounds in spectacular fashion, combining to go 10 under on Sunday.

Kim shot 77 on Saturday before making eight birdies on his way to a final-round 66. Kitayama’s turnaround was even more pronounced. He followed up an 82 with a 68 that was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 second, an improvement of 14 shots — nearly one per hole.

Augusta National was sideswiped by a storm Thursday that delayed the start of the Masters by 2 1/2 hours. Winds gusting to 45 mph on Friday made play miserable. But it was warm, sunny and ideal for the final round on Sunday.

Tiger Woods and Verne Lundquist will always share a connection at Augusta National.

It was only appropriate that they shared a moment at the Lundquist’s final Masters.

At the 16th hole, where Woods made a memorable chip-in at the 2005 Masters on the way to his fourth of five green jackets, the golfer stopped to shake Lundquist’s hand and exchange a few words after tapping in for par.

The 83-year-old Lundquist is retiring after calling the Masters for CBS for the 40th time.

His decision to step away has rekindled memories of his epic call of Woods’ chip-in nearly two decades ago, when Lundquist bellowed, “In your life have you seen anything like that?!”

It’s been a forgettable Masters for defending champion Jon Rahm.

But one swing will leave him with a fond memory.

On the seventh hole, Rahm drove his tee shot into the trees right of the fairway and had to punch out. He made up for his mistake by sinking a wedge from 80 yards for a birdie , dropping his score on the day to 2 under though he remained 10 strokes off the lead.

Tiger Woods ends his week at Augusta National with a record he could do without.

After setting a Masters record on Friday by making his 24th consecutive cut, Woods went 82-77 on the weekend and finished at 16-over 304. That’s his highest 72-hole score of a career that spans three decades.

His previous high was a 302 at the Memorial in 2015, the year he posted a career-worst 85 in the third round. The only other time he failed to break 300 was at the Masters two years ago.

He shot 78-78 on the weekend and finished at 301.Woods was in last place among the 60 players who made the cut when he finished. The previous time he finished in last place was in the 2020 Genesis Invitational at Riviera.

Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are carrying the LIV banner on the final day of the Masters.

DeChambeau, who held at least a share of the lead through the first two rounds, endured a messy 3-over 75 on Saturday that dropped him four strokes behind leader Scottie Scheffler with a 3-under score through 54 holes.

Smith was six shots off the pace, the only other LIV golfer with a realistic chance at making a run for the title at Augusta National.

The upstart tour, which has shaken the world of golf by doling out huge contracts to lure a host of big-name players away from the PGA Tour, had 13 players in the Masters field. Eight of them made the cut, including defending Masters champion Jon Rahm.

By the end of Sunday, someone will be slipping into a green jacket at the Masters for the 75th time.

While this is the 88th playing of the season’s first major, the iconic jacket was not awarded to the Masters champion until 1949, when Sam Snead received one. Previous winners were then awarded them retroactively.

The club’s co-founder, Clifford Roberts, explained that by awarding the jacket worn by Augusta National members to the winner, it would be “an indication he always can consider this as a home for him.”

The winners can take their jackets off the property for the first year. After that, they must stay on Augusta National grounds.

The jackets had been worn by members almost since the start. Roberts asked them to be worn during the Masters so patrons would know they could ask the members for information about the tournament.

The popular Rory McIlroy arrived at the Masters hoping to complete the elusive career Grand Slam, but that is likely not going to happen for the Northern Irishman.

At least not at this year.

The second-ranked player in the world was 10 shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler when he teed off on Sunday at the Masters — the only major McIlroy hasn’t won.

McIlroy is just 34 years old, though the task to win at Augusta National could only get tougher.

As Jack Nicklaus said earlier this week “as he gets older, it gets tougher because all of a sudden it’s a conversation and the talk.”

Tom Kim is putting together the best early round on the final day of the Masters.

The 21-year-old Kim squeaked into the weekend by making the cut on the number, then shot 77 on Saturday. But he ripped off four straight birdies and five in a six-hole span making the turn Sunday and was 4 under through his first 12 holes.

There have been only four rounds better than 4 under all week, and all came on Thursday.

In case anyone missed it, Kim had a starring role in one of the recent episodes of the Netflix docuseries “Full Swing.” Much of it was filmed at last year’s Masters, when Kim tied for 16th in his debut.

Defending champion Jon Rahm teed off in the final round of the Masters in a much different situation than a year ago.

Back then, the popular Spaniard was facing 30 holes on Sunday because of storms that knocked down three pines at Augusta National and pushed the finish of the third round into the next day. He was four shots back of Brooks Koepka when he went out to finish it Sunday, halved the deficit by the start of the final round, and went on to shoot 69 and win by four shots.

This year, Rahm started his final round 5 over and 11 shots behind leader Scottie Scheffler.

Rahm was one of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour a year ago. In December, he left the Tour for guaranteed Saudi money with LIV Golf. He has not won anywhere since his victory in the Masters.

Tiger Woods, playing in his 100th Masters, has dropped to the bottom of the leaderboard.

Woods shot 40 on the front nine after taking an unplayable lie on the fifth hole and making triple-bogey 7. The five-time Masters champion is 15 over for the tournament, including 14 over on the weekend.

Neal Shipley is probably driving up his NIL value at the Masters.

The amateur golfer from Ohio State has been able to profit the last few years from his name, image and likeness after the NCAA began allowing college athletes to make money.

Shipley said this week he has a good group of backers back in Columbus, and they’ve been invaluable. As an amateur, Shipley cannot accept prize money from tournaments, and playing majors such as the Masters and U.S. Open is expensive. Housing alone for a week can cost thousands.

Those backers are getting their money’s worth this week.

Shipley is the only amateur to make the cut, and he found himself playing his final round Sunday with Tiger Woods, where TV cameras followed every shot along with thousands of patrons.

Shipley plans to play the U.S. Open in June as an amateur before deciding whether to turn pro.

Tiger Woods continues to struggle at the Masters.

In his 100th round at Augusta National, Woods started the day par, birdie, bogey, par before running into major problems on the fifth hole. He had an unplayable shot off the tee and was driven back to the tee on a golf cart to re-hit.

Woods finished with a triple-bogey 7 on the fifth and is now 4 over for the day and 15 over for the tournament.

Bryson DeChambeau was once so arrogant that he called Augusta National a par-67 course because of his power. But he has matured a bit over the years, and that maturity has been on full display at the Masters this week.

The former low amateur at the event is seeking his first green jacket, and he’s put himself in position not by overpowering the course but by working with it. He has been patient. He has taken only calculated risks. And his putting has been sublime, which is usually the most important thing on the fast, undulating greens of Augusta National.

As for that “par-67” comment from 2020, DeChambeau said this week: “You know, you mess up. I’m not a perfect person. Everybody messes up. You learn from your mistake, and that was definitely one.”

The 83-year-old Lundquist is retiring after 40 years having spent a week in early April at Augusta National. He had pulled back from calling football and basketball games over the years, but he remained a fixture at the Masters.

“Yes, sir!” Lundquist proclaimed when Jack Nicklaus pulled ahead with a birdie on the 17th hole on his way to winning in 1986. And when Tiger Woods hit that pitch on the 16th green in 2005, which rolled down the hill and hung on the cup before falling, Lundquist said, “In your life have you seen anything like that?”

Most had not. Nor had they heard a call that memorable, either.

Tiger Woods is on the practice range wearing his usual Sunday red attire under the watchful eye of his son Charlie, who appeared to be giving the five-time Masters champion some tips on his swing.

Woods is coming off his worst round at a major after shooting 82 on Saturday. Woods is 11 over for the tournament and will tee off at 9:35 a.m. local time with Dean Shipley, the only amateur to make the cut.

The final round of the Masters is underway at warm, sunny Augusta National, where Scottie Scheffler has a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa and a two-shot advantage on Max Homa as he chases a second green jacket.

Morikawa is trying to win the third leg of the career grand slam. Homa is trying to win his first major championship.

Tiger Woods is in the third pairing off after shooting his worst round in a major, a 10-over 82 on Saturday. He is playing his 100th round at the Masters with Neal Shipley, the only amateur to make the cut this year.

The fierce winds that made Friday such a grind are gone now. But temps are expected to hit the mid-80s, and a golf course that is already playing firm and fast could become even tougher as the day wears on and it dries out even more.

The final round of the Masters is also the final day for patrons to get their hands on one of those popular golf-centric gnomes sold at Augusta National.

The ceramic figurine, standing about a foot tall, have been selling out within a couple of hours each morning after the tournament gift shop opens. All week patrons have been more than willing to wait in hourlong lines for the $49.50 statue that has become a highly coveted collector’s item.

Yes, experience matters at the Masters. No, it doesn’t mean any of the older guys will win the tournament.

Tiger Woods, 48, is one of seven golfers who is at least 40 years of age that earned the right to play on Sunday. Vijay Singh is 61, while Phil Mickelson is 53.

All three of those past Masters champions, along with two-time winner Jose Maria Olazabal, 58, made the cut. They have a combined 123 appearances at Augusta National.

Among the others: Lucas Glover is 44, Adam Scott is 43 and Camilo Villegas is 42.

The Masters has always been the place to see and be seen, where those famous green jackets never go out of style. But lately, Augusta National has also become the place for fashionistas to catch the latest in trends in golf attire.

Jason Day went viral earlier in the week with the streetwear looks he wore from Malbon. Though Day went too far on Friday and Augusta National asked him to change his wardrobe, so “respectfully” he did. That didn’t stop Viktor Hovland’s loud azalea prints from J. Lindberg from turning some heads. Travis Matthew and Greyson Clothiers offered up more mainstream fashions.

Then there’s Tiger Woods . The five-time Masters champion always wears red on Sunday, but this year, he is wearing Sun Day Red. After ending a 27-year partnership with Nike last year, he launched his own label in conjunction with TaylorMade, which supplies his equipment. Sun Day Red launches for the public on May 1.

Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the world. He has been for a while and now he sits atop the leaderboard heading into the final round of the Masters.

But now golf, after the peak years of Tiger Woods, is just like it was before that “Hello, world” moment when he arrived. There is no shortage of talent or even rivalries.

Still, there’s nothing like Woods. He changed everything. His appeal and his dominance spiked television ratings, which in turn spiked prize money. It was unlike anything golf had seen.

Scheffler, for one, doesn’t “know if we’ll ever see anything like that again.”

The weather forecast for Sunday’s final round of the Masters is a clear, sunshine-filled day, with temperatures in the mid-80’s.

It will likely be a good day to break out the sunscreen. The players will.

There’s no price a Masters champion can place on winning a green jacket; it’s an honor that just keeps on giving.

The champ, however, does know how much money he will be able to immediately deposit in his bank account for winning the first golf major of the year.

The winner will take home a cool $3.6 million. And no one who made the cut will walk away empty handed.

Whoever finishes 50th will receive $50,400. The other 10 players get cash prizes ranging downward from $49,200, depending on scores.

Here are pay checks for the top 10 finishers at the Masters:

1st — $3,600,000

2nd — $2,160,000

3rd — $1,360,000

4th — $960,000

5th — $800,000

6th — $720,000

7th — $670,000

8th — $620,000

9th — $580,000

10th — $540,000

Scottie Scheffler began the Masters as the 4-1 favorite to win his second green jacket, according to FanDuel Sportsbook , the most overwhelming betting choice since Tiger Woods nearly two decades ago.

By the time Sunday rolled around, those odds looked like a steal.

The world’s top-ranked player was 7 under and atop the leaderboard entering the final round. And his odds had shrunk from +400 at the start of Thursday, which meant you had to wager $100 to get $400 back if he won, to $135.

That’s about as close to an even-money favorite as it gets in golf.

Collin Morikawa was one shot back, making him the 7-2 second choice, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Max Homa was two shots back and was at 15-2 to win his first major championship.

The final round of the Masters begins Sunday morning with the first players teeing off at 9:15 local time.

Tiger Woods tees off at 9:35 looking to rebound from his worst round in a major championship. Other familiar names you may want to see include: Phil Mickelson , 11:15; Rory McIlroy , 1245 p.m. and then a little later the leaders take the course.

Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele tee off at 2:15 p.m., followed by Max Homa and Ludvig Aberg at 2:25 and then Masters leader Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa will start at 2:35.
