Plini share music video and announce North American tour

Plini , the Australian progressive artist, has announced a North American tour set for this spring, in addition to previously announced dates abroad. Support for the U.S. tour will be provided by Jakub Zytecki and Sungazer . Along with the announcement, Plini released a live video for "PAN," which was recorded at recent shows in Melbourne and Sydney. That video can be viewed below.

Plini shared the following:

After a couple of years away from touring, it's been so much fun getting back into the swing of things and seeing how these new tracks will pan out (pun maybe intended) live. Can't wait to see what they evolve into over all the tours we have coming up next year!

Australian progressive solo artist,  Plini , has announced an extensive US headline tour in 2023, with support from  Sungazer  and  Jakub Zytecki , following on from his previously announced Australia and UK/EU tour dates.  Plini  has also unveiled a stunning live video for the track ‘PAN’.

PLINI  composes, plays guitar, records, produces and manages his unique brand of instrumental progressive rock all from a bedroom studio. His critically-acclaimed debut album  Handmade Cities  was voted  #5  in Guitar World Magazine’s “20 best guitar albums of the decade,” and hailed by  Steve Vai  as  “one of the finest, forward thinking, melodic, rhythmically and harmonically deep, evolution of rock/metal instrumental guitar records I have ever heard.”  Routinely mentioned in “best guitarist” lists,  PLINI  was named  #4  in the  “Top 10 best prog guitarists in the world today”  by Music Radar in early 2020.  PLINI  also made Prog mag (UK)’s top 100 musicians of all time list.

Over the last few years,  PLINI  has toured the world supporting bands like  Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Tesseract  and  Intervals , as well as playing festivals and headlining his own tours all over North America, Europe, Australia, Asia and India. In 2018,  PLINI  was the first instrumental act ever to play the legendary  Download Festival  in the UK.

PLINI  was a special guest instructor at “Vai Academy” in 2019, alongside  Steve Vai, Joe Satriani  and  Devin Townsend , and despite being entirely self-taught, he has been invited to give masterclasses at some of the most prestigious contemporary music colleges in the world, including  Berklee College of Music, Musician’s Institute  (USA),  BIMM  (UK), and  JMC Academy  (Australia).

PLINI  has a signature guitar with Strandberg Guitars, signature guitar amp software with Neural DSP, and endorsement deals with Yahama Music, Dunlop, D’Addario and Fractal Audio.

Absolutely splendid! Inimitable experience standing and absorbing every single note of the diverse Tesseract's catalog of four great albums. Stunned in most positive sense. Strongly advise to every single fan of the band

Saw Plini boy play at the Corner Hotel (Richmond) with David Maxim Micic and Mestis. David Maxim Micic's performance was an undeniably moving fiesta of sounds and colours to entertain and delight, and Mestis was straight to the point with his powerful melodic polyrhythmic djenting. One set couldn't do Plini's talent justice, but the attempt was a miracle of diverse guitar techniques coupled with dense riffs in between percussive elements and samples and subtle use of synth to knock your socks off. Big thanks to the sound guy Lee, my tinnitus was kept at bay

There’s genuine amazement in Plini’s mellow, Australian drawl. “I do my own merchandise, and it’s crazy to play a show in New York and see a human being standing there in a T-shirt I posted them.” That moment came during the guitarist’s recent US tour with Toronto band Intervals. It was his first trip to the States and he got his first crowd surfer in Seattle.

Now 24, Plini Roessler-Holgate (he’s of Polish/English descent) originally studied for a Masters in Architecture. He released his debut EP Moonflower in 2012, and has been a full-time musician since last year, building up a strong international following online. In this alone he is of the new generation, and as a guitarist, he’s in the quantum class. Yes are his favourite golden-age prog band, but his hero as a kid wasn’t Howe, nor even Van Halen – his guys were Petrucci, Govan and Satriani, via Holdsworth and Metheny. His tech/prog metal leanings are tempered with profound lyricism and an eclectic compositional mind. His instrumental music borrows from modern electronica as well as fusion, and all delivered with a neo-age flourish. For an entrée, check out his two most downloaded tracks, Sweet Nothings and Tarred & Feathered . Incredibly, such towering sounds were recorded in his bedroom – just him, his axe, a Mac and some plugins.

“It’s cool to see what people are doing with just a computer and the internet,” he says. “Guys like Aaron [Marshall, of Intervals] and me, we don’t have labels, or financial backing, but we’re touring the world and having fun. It’s weird and crazy and excellent.”

Marco Minnemann heard and liked his work, and provided drums for The End Of Everything , while Plini has contributed guest solos to over 20 proggy projects, including Skyharbor and Lithium Dawn. He also used music sales to fund a charity that has helped Cambodian villagers threatened with enforced relocation by land developers.

In July, he’ll play his first European dates, supporting quantum guitarist par excellence Tosin Abasi and his Animals As Leaders. His full-length debut album will follow, with a plan “to play places I’d never even thought to go on holiday, with some truly great bands. It’s just surreal.” He’ll be needing more T-shirts, for sure.

PLINI Announces Mirage Tour 2024

Following a busy year of sold out shows across Europe and North America, guitar prodigy Plini will return to Australian shores next March in celebration of his new EP Mirage , due out on Friday 1 December. Joining Plini and his band for the Mirage Tour will be New York-based international future jazz group Sungazer and the Polish progressive rock virtuoso Jakub Zytecki .

With five new tracks lying in wait on Mirage later this year, including the vibrant recent single Ember , Plini ‘s forthcoming EP will also feature live strings, piano, oud and a guitar solo from Animals As Leaders’ Tosin Abasi alongside Plini ‘s dexterous performance.

Springing back into action in 2022 following the pandemic years, Plini embarked upon back-to-back sold out headline tours of Australia, India and Scandinavia, festival appearances in Australia, UK, Germany and Portugal, and performing in some of Australia’s finest theatres supporting Northlane .

Consistently delivering mind-bending musicality from all angles, Plini has previously released two full length albums, 2016’s Handmade Cities and 2020’s Impulse Voices , as well as multiple EPs, singles and contributing credits with various other artists. Nominated for Live Guitarist of the Year in 2018 at the National Live Music Awards, Plini completed his biggest Australian tour production to date earlier in 2023, and has also previously toured alongside Sleep Token , Periphery and Tesseract .

Joining Plini in Australia in early 2024 will be American future jazz duo Sungazer . Consisting of YouTuber and bassist Adam Neely with drummer Shawn Crowder , Sungazer formed in 2014, welding their hard-hitting jazz fusion, 8-bit progressive rock and EDM into a sonic display that is equal parts exciting and unpredictable. Releasing their debut album Perihelion in 2021, Sungazer have previously toured alongside Plini , with a horde of North American, UK and European headline runs also under their belts.

Polish ambient shredder and producer Jakub Zytecki continues to prove himself as one of the leading luminaries in the world of progressive guitar music. Most recently releasing a brand new album in 2023, the sublime collection of songs that is Remind Me , Zytecki ‘s work both as a solo artist and in band settings has endeared him to a global audience, with the talented guitarist recently touring in North America alongside Plini and Stargazer , as well as multiple festival appearances in his creative wake.
