The 2024 Tour de Summerlin will mark our 22nd year running and we are so appreciative for all the sponsors, riders and volunteers who have supported our event over the past 20+ years. This event was and still is made possible through the encouragement and support of the beautiful Masterplan of Summerlin and the Howard Hughes Corporation. Back in 2000 we set out to create the most ‘rider friendly’ bicycling event in the southwest, and we’ve stuck to that mission year after year after year.

One of the most unique aspects of the Tour de Summerlin is the abundant amount of biking lanes that are used throughout the different routes. Our #1 commitment has always been rider safety and utilizing miles and miles of biking lanes creates a ‘rider friendly’ experience. It’s also hard to beat the winning combination of Summerlin’s man-made amenities and Mother Nature. This event shows off the active lifestyle for which this area is known for with scenic backdrops that make it one of the best places to bicycle in the entire Southwest.

This year’s start and finish line will again be located at beautiful Downtown Summerlin. This is the ultimate destination for shopping, dining and entertainment in southern Nevada and sure to create a dynamic and engaging experience for the entire community. Invite your family, friends and supporters to come out and enjoy a day of shopping and dining before heading over to the finish line to cheer you on!

We will continue to offer three different ride distances: 80, 40 and 20 miles. With it being so early in the biking season (April), we believe that it’s important to maintain routes that are still challenging enough for the most serious riders, but also attainable for those riders who are looking to push themselves to a higher level or complete a long distance for the first time as the weather begins to warm. We are constantly striving to enhance and improve our ride experiences. This involves evaluating current and future road construction, possible safety issues and minimizing stoplight and stop sign constrictions. eBikes (electric bikes) are allowed. ALL registered participants will receive an event t-shirt and medal.

Everclear, one of the leading alternative rock bands to emerge from the ‘90s, celebrated their 30 th Anniversary in 2022, and founder, vocalist and guitarist Art Alexakis has made it clear that he has no plans to slow down. Since forming in 1992, Everclear has enjoyed a lengthy career by any measure, spanning 11 studio releases, including four that have been certified Gold or Platinum, selling over 6 million records, and achieving 12 Top 40 Hit Singles on Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio, including “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You A New Life,” “Wonderful” and “Everything To Everyone,” as well as numerous videos, thousands of shows, and various other accolades, including a 1998 Grammy nomination.

After the demise of his band Colorfinger in 1992, Alexakis was struggling to make it in Portland, where he’d moved from San Francisco. That extremely difficult personal and creative period was the crucible that forged Alexakis into the fiery songwriter heard on the early Everclear demos, the Nervous & Weird EP (1993), and ultimately the World of Noise LP, both released on the Portland independent label Tim/Kerr Records. The original 1993 release of World of Noise, paired with the band’s significant efforts to break into college radio and the buzz they’d created within the Portland music scene, attracted the attention of major labels, including Capitol Records, which signed the group soon after. Beginning with their major-label debut, 1995’s platinum-selling album Sparkle and Fade , and its massive chart-topping hit “Santa Monica,” Everclear was soon a household name and catapulted into the masses, thus allowing their impressive three-decade career to prosper and endure. 

In 2019, while being treated for an injury caused by a minor car accident, Alexakis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and learned that he had likely been living with the disease for nearly twenty years. Since being diagnosed, Art has donated one dollar from every ticket purchased for his performances to charities such as Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and National MS Society. 

In 2022, Everclear reissued World Of Noise as a special 30 th Anniversary remastered, deluxe edition, making the album available for the first time on digital streaming platforms with 6 bonus songs in addition to its original 12 tracks. Adding to the celebrations that year, Everclear released a commemorative anniversary video, “Everclear – 30 Years Gone: A Retrospective,” hosted by former MTV VJ, current radio host and longtime friend Matt Pinfield, and embarked on a lengthy North American Tour. One special stop on the tour, back in Alexakis’ hometown of Los Angeles, was recorded and filmed for a new live album. Live at The Whisky a Go Go, set for release September 8, 2023 via Sunset Blvd. Records, features all the hits and hidden treasures from throughout Everclear’s extraordinary catalog as well as two new original bonus studio tracks.

In addition to his thousands of Everclear performances over the band’s lengthy career, Alexakis created and runs the annual Summerland Tour, which features a package of popular ‘90s alt rock bands, and he released his first solo album, Sun Songs , in 2019. More than three decades later, Everclear’s enduring legacy and ongoing appeal as a live band continues.

The Carpinteria & Summerland Artists Studio Tour Back for its 16th Anniversary

Studio tour connects a community of artists and gives an inside look into their creative processes

When looking at a work of art, it is normal to ponder what was going on in the artist’s mind when they were crafting it — whether it was a transcendental experience, a fever-dream-like trance, or if they were simply gazing out their window and painted the scene they observed. It is not often that we have an opportunity to pick an artist’s brains and ask them these questions directly, which is what makes the 16th annual Carpinteria & Summerland Artists Studio Tour truly a unique experience.

The free studio tour will return again on May 13th and 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., where, in sum, as Kristina Calkins, the Executive Director of the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center, describes, “People can receive a map, drive around, visit their favorite artist’s studio, see additional art by each artist, and see them creating their masterpieces.”

Since the COVID pandemic, the tour has grown in size, and now showcases 24 talented artists and their studios from across the Carpinteria and Summerland area. Among them is Ted Rhodes, the activist and artist who shifted away from a career in filmmaking and into photography of the South Coast with a focus on critical community issues; Benjamin Anderson, whose oil paintings have been shown both across the country and internationally; and Hal Price, an author, photographer, and esteemed public speaker. 

Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of the tour is its universality and accessibility to all, as well as its ability to invite and connect a community to one another. Calkins notes, “Our Artist Studio Tour is open to any artist in the Carpinteria and Summerland area that would like to be a part of it.” Thus, the chance to both attend and become an integral part of the tour is within the reach of any who desire it.

The tour invites a chance for the public to explore both the beautiful Carpinteria area as well as the artists who inhabit it, and, as Calkins states, is “a chance for the public to have a personal experience with artists by entering the world of the artist. It is a personal experience that offers time to get to know the artists and ask questions about their work.” The Carpinteria & Summerland Artists Studio Tour is a free event on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit carpinteriaartscenter.org/studiotour .

Helena Deland shares new song “Bright Green Vibrant Gray,” announces 2024 tour dates

Deland’s new album goodnight summerland is out in october..

Montreal-based songwriter Helena Deland has announced details of an upcoming album and shared a raft of tour dates for later this year and into 2024.

Goodnight Summerland is due for release October 13 via Chivi Chivi. It features Deland's latest single, "Bright Green Vibrant Gray," which comes with a video in which she traverses the deep snow to embark on a painting expedition in Quebec. Check that out below.

In a statement, Deland said: "I wrote ‘Bright Green Vibrant Gray’ shortly after losing my mother. On the scale of our human lives, we might recognize the watershed moments, but there is no telling how deeply or subtly they affect us. Lyrically, the song is interested in contrasts — the immediacy and acuity of a nascent romance in the context of larger forces such as geological time. I was interested in contextualizing an encounter between two people within nature’s humbling and overwhelming scale, which outlasts and ultimately subsumes any smaller and human-scale experiences within it. In discovering another person, there is a heightened awareness, a life-affirming purposefulness. It is akin to creative inspiration; the painter in the video whose work holds such power and immediate force to her ultimately wonders where her work will end up after she’s gone."

Goodnight Summerland will also feature the previously released singles "Swimmer" and "Spring Bug." It is Deland's first solo album since Someone New dropped in 2020. Since then Deland has worked with Ouri and claire rousay on collaborative projects. Deland will be on tour across North America from November and has today confirmed a 2024 tour of Europe. The 17th Annual Carpinteria & Summerland Artists Studio Tour that is FREE to the public will happen next year.  The goal is to promote and support our local emerging and established professional-level artists with this opportunity for the public to meet them, view their work, and explore their creative space.  Samples of artwork from each artist will be on display in our Charles Lo Bue Gallery as well as on our website.

The Artists Studio Tour was established by the Carpinteria Arts Center in 2007 to promote and support our local artists with this annual opportunity for the public to meet them, view their work, and explore their creative studios.

The Artists Studio Tour takes place annually each May during Mother's Day weekend.
