XXYYXX is the stage name of electronic musician/producer Marcel Everett (born 31 October 1995). Despite Everett’s young age he has built a name for himself alongside important contemporaries within the electronic and R&B music scene such as James Blake and The Weeknd.
Everett was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, US and has gone on to develop his career within this region. Like many other burgeoning electronic musicians he started out producing bedroom recordings on his laptop through programs such as FL Studio and Ableton.
His music was spacious and thought inducing, touching on the lo-fi dance sounds circulating wildly throughout the UK electronic garage scene. His minimal and slowly building rhythms cloaked with seductive samples and obstructed ambience recalled the sinister style exhibited by artists like Burial and Zomby.
Cloud rap and chillwave also largely factored into Everett’s sound, finding him akin to and touring alongside like minded electronic producers such as Blackbird Blackbird, Slow Magic, Beat Culture, and Giraffage. In 2013 he toured throughout Europe with these artists playing clubs in Germany, Russia, Greece, Denmark, and Italy to name a few. Early that year Everett was supported by Giraffage and Groundislava for a US tour, which included two sold out shows at New York’s 285 Kent as well as a sold out performance at Chicago’s Schubas.
Everett’s prominence has been budding exponentially and by the Summer of 2013 his single “Pay Attention” exceeded 1 million plays on Bandcamp. Though this particular track was self-released most of his major output is distributed through the label “Relief In Abstract Records”. His first release through the label, the 10 track “Still Sound” came out in 2011 and was followed up by his 2nd self-titled album, which saw release in 2012. Everett put out an abundance of material this year such as the single “Dolor”, his split EP with Ruddyp, the 6 song FLAC “Mystify” and a feature appearance on the Giraffage single “Even Though”.
Everett has also remixed songs for big name R&B stars like Tinashe and Usher, contemporaries such as Ryan Hemsworth and influential hip-hop artists like Drake, P. Reign, and Future. He has also produced work for SZA and has been featured on the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack. Additionally Everett has played gigs opening for Of Montreal (for their Japan dates) and has also played events like the Hard Summer Festival and San Francisco Noise Pop Festival.

Florida’s XXYYXX is just 18-years-old! The electronic music artist, real name Marcel Everett, has already achieved so much, having released several records – including his incredible self-titled album in 2012 – and toured the globe. The first time I saw him was when he headlined London’s KOKO in 2013 and although I had been a fan for some time, I had no idea just how popular he was. There are many artists who make XXYYXX’s brand of melodic, RnB-laced witch-house, but none who are able to headline a venue as large as KOKO. Perhaps his boyish good looks and effortless charm have something to do with it… Electronic music doesn’t usually work too well on a large stage, but XXYYXX had the crowd eating out of his hand. Accompanied by an AV screen and standing behind a mixing desk, he delivered an energetic set that took the best of his downtempo productions and moulded them together with dancier songs. His music features glitchy basslines and ethereal samples, coming across like a more trappy Holy Other or dance-floor ready Burial, but at his live shows, just like he did at KOKO, he adds commercial rap music, RnB and house music. If I had to pick a highlight I’d say it was ‘Good Enough’, which samples TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’, but the whole set was a joy to dance around too. A great live DJ-producer.

Marcel Everett, better known by the tongue tying stage name of XXYYXX has rose to prominence on the indie music scene with his mind bending electro with an equally twisted live show. Despite being just 19 years old, he has a strong intent for his music that he has self described as "Doing drugs on a freeway...underwater".
With a trippy, surrealistic atmosphere promised, the fans flock from far and wide to be part of the cathartic electro experience. Everett steps through the opening visuals and takes his place behind the decks apparently entranced in the zone as he does not seem to even notice the mammoth cheers received. The visuals begin to pulse and shimmer as he begins to mix his own complex electro, many have described as being far advanced for somebody of his age.
Although he does not currently have an album, he keeps the crowds moving to his singles, original mixes and remixes for the likes of Tinashe and Usher. The show is just further demonstration that XXYYXX is one of the most exciting new artists in electro.
Although Xxyyxx didn't come out until around 10:30ish and we were listening to openers for 2 1/2 hours, the openers were completely amazing. Especially JR Jarris. He was the first opener and he kept the crowd hyped. After seeing him I definitely knew I had to look him up on soundcloud. Xxyyxx himself was amazing as well. The whole crowd was just vibing out together and having a great time. Sub a great experience and I defintely have no regrets on buying tickets to see him.
I am so happy that I went! It was really fun overall. Some crazy people but that was expected. Kinda disappointed at the length of his set and the way it ended.
Dude was sick so he didn't perform. I wish I could get a refund. My girlfriend and I drove all the way from Seguin,Texas to see him perform. It was a let down.
