You can also drive to Morocco, but you will face issues at the borders and navigating the local ferries with your car. I will provide details for both options in the article.

Yes, it  most certainly is ! 

Even though Malaga and Costa del Sol have plenty to offer in terms of experiences, visiting Morocco and the African continent will be the highlight of your trip . 

I loved the trip I booked to Tetouan; it was like venturing into a whole new world you wouldn’t be able to experience so easily without the help of the local guide.

Of course if you can, spending a night or two would be ideal, but I think considering the travel time and how much you can see on a day trip, this is well worth your time.

Is Morocco Safe to Visit?

Yes, Morocco is generally regarded as a safe country to visit, especially if you have a local guide with you.

On my trip, we had a local Moroccan guide, an extra local guide to help keep an eye on the group, and also a local police officer allocated by the town hall.

In the case of a larger group, they provide an extra guide to look after the group to make sure nobody gets lost in the Medina.

Tetouan or Tangier: Which Day Trip Should You Book?

You will see that the local companies are offering day trips to two cities in Morocco – Tangier and Tetouan.

I booked the tour of Tetouan and I’m very happy I did because as I was told by our local guide, it’s much less touristy and crowded compared to Tangier. The Medina in Tangier attracts a lot of crowds, and with that comes unwanted attention from locals and sellers, more beggars, and overall, you will feel more like a tourist being chased to buy something.

You can, of course, also book a day trip to Tangier , and there is almost no difference in the price of the trip, or the distance traveled.

The main difference is the fact that Tetouan feels much more authentic and local, it’s a smaller city that is not taken over by tourists, and you will feel very much like you’re blending into the local life. The medina in Tetouan is an absolute delight to see.

If you’re not 100% whether to drive or  book a local tour , here are a few things you should consider:

1. You Get an Expert Local Guide in Morocco

To explore the cities in Morocco, you need to use the services of a local guide who has a license for this job.

Finding someone local you’ve never met before, and someone you can trust can be very difficult, and forums are full of stories of travelers who got scammed because they recruited the first guide they encountered after arriving in Africa.

With a tour, you will be accompanied by an expert local guide, in my case it was a local person who has lived in Tetouan his whole life, and knew the city inside out. 

Each tour is reported to the local town hall, and they also assign a police officer in civil clothing to accompany your group through the Medina.

2. Hassle Free Border Crossing

We were told it’s normal to spend up to one hour just at the border crossing because of the bureaucratic procedures on both sides of the border.

Thanks to our local guide, who knew people on the borders, we were able to cut the time in half, and while waiting, we learned everything about the local culture.

3. A Tour is The Cheapest Option

If you take into account the price of ferry tickets, including car transport, petrol, car rental, and the fact that car rental companies don’t like you crossing the continent with a rental car, a tour with a local company actually works out as the cheapest option available. 

Not just that, but it also saves you the hassle of navigating traffic on a different continent and getting the car in and out of the ferry.

Best Time of Year to Do a Tour from Málaga to Morocco

You can make this trip anytime during the year , but just keep in mind that if you’re visiting in the winter months, the sea can be quite rough, so the one-hour ferry crossing can be an issue.

In the summer months, Morocco can be notoriously hot, so you need to be prepared and wear appropriate clothing and sun protection.

I would personally say that the ideal time is in spring or autumn . In spring, during the celebration of Ramadan, the city is especially quiet, so you will have the whole Medina pretty much to yourself.

Itinerary For Your Day Trip from Málaga to Morocco

• pick up in Malaga around 6am
• travel by bus towards the Strait of Gibraltar along the way you will learn lots of interesting things about Morocco
• as you arrive at Algeciras port, your guide will secure your ferry ticket, and you will board the ferry
• you will take the fast ferry to Ceuta (Spanish territory in North Africa) – 60 minutes 
• after arriving in Ceuta, a local driver and bus will pick you up and you will continue to the Moroccan borders and enter the country
• after arriving in Tetouan, you will start your day with a guided tour of the Medina
• your tour also includes lunch in a typical Moroccan restaurant in Medina
• you will also see the royal palace, a brief stop at a rug shop, a local natural pharmacy, city center and learn everything about the local history
• you will return back to Malaga the same way, sometime before midnight

• this is a full-day bus trip, so you will be back in Malaga just before midnight
• you should be wearing top with long sleeves and closed-toe shoes (required by the tour company)
• the duration of the trip depends on local traffic, ferry schedules, and the amount of time required for border crossing
• Medina of Tetouan is huge! Over 40,000 shops and a maze of streets, so you won’t have time on your own to explore for safety reasons (super easy to get lost)
• you will need a valid passport for your trip to Morocco – EU citizens can enter without visa
• the ferry terminal in Algeciras is pretty big and modern, you will find a cafeteria and toilets there
• the ferry itself is super comfortable with lots of seats available, a small shop and a bar
• during the scenic ferry ride you can admire the views of the Rock (Gibraltar)
• this is a full day trip and you will spend a lot of time waiting around, so please keep that in mind
• the trip is not suitable for small kids

The main highlight of this day trip to Teouan in Morocco is the ancient Medina.

Day Trip with a Rental Car

Driving to Morocco from Malaga is certainly an option, the drive takes about 4-5 hours one way and covers a distance of 250km.

You need to remember that you need to arrive in the port well ahead of the time to load the car and you will spend more time also at the border crossing.

The ferry tickets for the journey between Algeciras and port of Cueta start from 28 euros one way (including your car) and you can get them on the website of Balearia .

Keep in mind that you need to make sure your car rental company allows you to take the car outside of the borders of Spain, many will charge extra fees or require extra security due to car insurance.

Due to the issues with car rental I do not recommend taking this trip

Day Trip to Morocco by Bus

If you would like to consider the option of using public transport, I’m sorry to say that it’s not an option for a day trip. 

​There are no trains available as far south as Algeciras, and using the local buses would take a whole day, so it’s not an option you should consider.

Cultural Etiquette and Tips for Morocco

Respect local customs.

Morocco is a country with deep-rooted traditions and customs, many of which differ significantly from Western norms.

Dress conservatively, especially when visiting a mosque or Medina. For women, this means covering shoulders and knees, while men should opt for pants rather than shorts.

Tipping Practices

Tipping is customary in Morocco for almost every service. From restaurant servers to tour guides, a small tip is always appreciated. Keep some change handy for such instances, and consider a 10% tip in restaurants as a general guideline.

Moroccans are warm and friendly, often greeting with a handshake and sometimes, among the same sex, with a kiss on each cheek. A polite “Salam Alaikum” (peace be upon you) is always a good start.

• Local Currency (Dirhams) : It is not necessary to change your Euros to Dirhams, locals will happily accept your payments in Euros or with a card
• Your Passport : most countries do not need VISA to enter Morocco, but be sure to check this before your trip

SIGHTSEEING TOUR AROUND TANGIER

Have a drive through the Ville Nouvelle (New Town) of Tangier which was built by the eight powers that ruled. The architecture as well as the signs still witness an era of opening up and peaceful coexistence among myriad cultures in a small geographical location.

A FANTASTIC DAY TRIP TO MOROCCO FROM MALAGA

We had a FANTASTIC DAY! I can not say enough nice things about Abu and Reda (the driver). Abu was so knowledgeable, friendly and shared so much with us. He put up with our hundreds of questions and answered them all. The entire day was very smooth from the ride to Tarifa and return. I know I asked so many questions, not ever being in Morocco I wanted to be complete (I have been to some countries where it did not work out well). The experience was was wonderful and the three kids (adult kids) had an experience they will never forget.

How to Get From Malaga to Tangier by Bus, Plane, Car, and Ferry

Although Malaga, Spain , and Tangier, Morocco , are technically on separate continents, they are only about 142 miles (230 kilometers) apart. On the other side of the Mediterranean Sea and across the Strait of Gibraltar, Tangier is reachable from Spain via flight and ferry routes. However, to get there from Malaga, you will have to either fly directly or take a bus to Tarifa, where you can get on a ferry that will dock in Tangier in about an hour. You could also drive yourself to Tarifa and take your car across on the ferry. It's not a very long journey, which means it's very easy to visit Tangier for the day . However, if you prefer not to stress out over bus and ferry schedules, consider signing up for a guided tour so you don't have to worry about making travel arrangements.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get From Malaga to Tangier?

Although flight prices occasionally drop on this route, it is usually cheaper to take a bus from Malaga to Tarifa , which is 82 miles (132 kilometers) away, and then take the ferry to Tangier. The bus ride takes at least four hours and costs about $20 with a bus company like TG Comes and Avanzabus . After that, the ferry from Tarifa is the quickest way to get across the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates the continents. It takes 1 hour and costs between $44 and $90 for a one-way ticket. When combined with the cost of the bus, this journey's total cost is cheaper than flying most of the time. However, if your schedule is flexible you should double-check flight prices anyway, just in case there's a good deal.

What Is the Fastest Way to Get From Malaga to Tangier?

It's a short 45-minute flight from Malaga to Tangier. However, the route is not in high demand, so there is only one direct flight serviced by Air Arabia just three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. One way tickets can be found for as low as $46, but usually cost between the $70 to $150. Hands-down, this flight is the easiest way to get between Malaga and Tangier if you have a flexible schedule and budget.

How Long Does It Take to Drive?

Despite being on two separate continents, it's not impossible to drive to Tangier from Malaga. If you drive without stopping and get right on the ferry, the whole trip should only take about four hours, 20 minutes including the one-hour ferry ride. However, it's worth considering making a few stops along Spain's scenic Costa del Sol between Malaga and Tarifa.

Firstly, you will need to travel southwest from Malaga via the MA-20, AP-7, and E-15. After passing the town of Algeciras on the Bay of Gibraltar, across from British Gibraltar, you can take the N-340 the rest of the way to Tarifa. Once you arrive in Tarifa, you can drive to the ferry terminal and buy a ticket for yourself and your car with either FRS or Trasmediterranea . The boat will dock in Tangier's main port.

When Is the Best Time to Travel to Tangier?

The best time to visit Tangier, and other parts of Morocco , is in the spring and fall when the weather is just right and there are fewer people traveling. Generally, the climate is warm and dry all year, but summer is especially hot.

Tangier is a cultural hotspot and throughout the year, there are many exciting events and parties worth checking out like the annual jazz festival in September or the short film festival in October. You may also consider traveling beyond Tangier to some other cities in Morocco for unique events like the Marrakech Popular Arts Festival in July or the Erfoud Date Festival in October, which celebrates the annual harvest of sweet date fruits.

Do I Need a Visa to Travel to Tangier?

Visas are not required for North Americans who plan to visit Morocco for less than 90 days, but you will need to get a stamp on your passport. If you're taking the ferry, you'll need to get your passport stamped at the passport control station located on the boat. As soon as you board, make sure to get in line for a stamp. If it's a full boat and you don't get stamped right away, you may still be waiting in line after the boat has docked in Tangier.

What Time Is It in Tangier?

Despite being directly south of Spain, Morocco is actually in another time zone. While Spain operates on Central European time (GMT+2), Morocco is on West Africa Standard Time (GMT+1), so Tangier is always one hour behind Tarifa and Malaga.

Can I Use Public Transportation to Travel From the Airport?

The airport is 6 miles (10 kilometers) from the city center, but you will need to take at least three buses to get there by public transportation alone. It's a long trip and will take about two hours. The only other option is to pay for a cab, rent a car, or check with your hotel to see if they offer any airport pick-up service.

What Is There to Do in Tangier?

Tangier is Morocco's main port city and is situated on the point where Africa almost touches Europe. It's a city that has inspired the likes of writers and artists from Tennessee Williams to Henri Matisse and is best known for its blending of European and North African culture. While in Tangier, you'll want to make sure to walk along the beach and take a stroll through the Medina to browse the stores and teashops.

The main landmarks you'll want to visit in town are the Kasbah and the Grand Mosque in the city, as well as the Hercules Caves, which are not too far away from the airport. Since Tangier isn't really known for having very clean beaches, you might be better off traveling east about 90 minutes by car to Martil Beach, which is considered one of the best beaches in Morocco .

Flying is the fastest and can be the cheapest way to get to Tangier; however, flight availability is limited, so it's not always practical.

The ferry leaves from Tarifa, so you'll need to take a bus or drive your car to that point. If you drive, you can take your car on the ferry.

The ferry ride itself is about one hour, and you'll also need to factor in travel time of getting to and from the ferry.

Touch down in Casablanca, the coastal city where your Moroccan journey begins. You’ll be picked up and taken to your hotel, just a 10-minute walk from the Old Medina. Gather in the lobby for a welcome meeting at 6pm with your Local Insider, who will accompany the group throughout the trip. After breakfast, head straight to the Hassan II Mosque, the second-largest functioning mosque in Africa, which is dramatically situated on a rocky outcrop jutting into the Atlantic Ocean. Its 210m (690ft) high minaret, completed in 1993, is the second-tallest in the world. After exploring the complex, leave Casablanca behind and head north to the enchanting city of Chefchaouen, which lies beneath the craggy peaks of the Rif mountains. I arrived on the night flight at 210pm. I went straight to the roundabout on the opposite side of the parking... away from greedy taxi drivers.

I submitted my trip on InDriver to the Rabat medina and got plenty of driver requests... Accepted one... he calls me and says he will drive me to Rabat for 300dh. I say politely to f-off.

I walked a bit along the road and found another driver in the app... Again, turns out to be a greedy taxi driver. So I decide just to go to the airport road exit... at the junction with the main road. Here I submit my trip again, but this time I ensure I only accept drivers whose car is not so close or in the airport area... jackpot... a driver 8 mins away will pick me up.

8 mins later, punctual as a Swiss clock, he is there waving at me... on the other side of the road. It is a beaten-up old Peugeot... So it seems a legit InDriver.

When I approach, I notice something different from the last times I used the app... the seat next to the driver is occupied by another person... I think... ok, it will be his friend, and I enter the back seat...

The car starts, and the driver and his friend start talking.

- "You know InDriver is forbidden in Morocco ??" (I think f...)

- "You're very smart using the app here and not around the terminal..."

- "How much were the taxi drivers asking you?"

I started to think they could be disguised taxi drivers, lol. I played the "a friend told me to just use InDriver 'cause it's safer as the location is tracked in the app... and told me they can only collect me from here."

- "So you don't know it's forbidden?? But you already took 8 trips (showing me the app statistics)..."

I think, omg... taxi drivers definitely. "Eh, no, first time here in Morocco, I used InDriver in Vietnam."

- "Very smart, very smart, hehehe."

Then they take a turn right away from the main road (here I got a bit scared... this will be the end 😁). I told them they were not following the straight direction.

- "Yes, yes, right direction, 10 km. We avoid the main road. Better this route."

F... I ask them just to please pull over the car , and I will get out. "No friend, seriously, this is the direction."

At that point, I start to think (as soon as I see they turn into a non-pavement road or a low illumination area, I jump off the car ).

I relaxed for a few seconds... checked the map... and observed that they might indeed be going in the right direction.

In the end, they were genuine InDrivers :D. I paid 35dh + a 15dh tip I gave them for not kidnapping me.

Relax a little - no one is going to kidnap you!

Trying to get InDrive around airports and stations can be difficult though

The best (and worst) budget airlines in the UK

T hey’re the airlines we love to hate, whisking passengers to Europe and beyond for miniscule fares with incredible regularity – in theory, at least. But the reality of “budget” airlines , as all-too many of us know, can be fraught with hidden fees, confusing baggage allowances and copious delays.

However, not all budget airlines are created equal. In a bid to find the best low-cost carrier, we’ve compared Wizz Air, Jet2, easyJet and Ryanair on all of the key credentials. There is a clear winner – and loser – but do you agree? Have your say in the poll and comments below.

By passenger numbers, Ryanair is Europe’s largest airline group: it carried 182 million people in 2023. This summer, it will have a fleet of 600 aircraft – by far the biggest of our survey, serving more than 250 airports across 40 countries.

Ryanair is also the best-connected of the bunch. It flies from 22 UK airports, including lesser-served ones such as Newquay and Teesside, so we’re rating it top for UK range. Its routes include rarer low-cost destinations too, such as Jordan, Montenegro and Morocco . 

Currently operating from 18 UK airports, easyJet serves 155 airports across 36 countries. It is Europe’s second largest airline by passenger numbers (pipped by Ryanair), with a large fleet of 336 planes.

In March, easyJet opened a new three-aircraft base in Birmingham – joining the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Edinburgh . For connectivity, it comes second place to Ryanair.

In third place is Wizz Air, which serves 95 routes to and from the UK, to more than 30 countries – including cities in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. 

There are 207 aircraft in the Wizz Air fleet, and it has hubs at London Luton and Gatwick. It flies from a further six UK airports: Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Leeds and Liverpool, so has a fair regional coverage.

For routes and connectivity, Jet2 ranks fourth. It flies to over 65 European destinations from 11 UK airports, with a new base at Liverpool opening in March. Other hubs include Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Stansted.

It operates 119 aircraft, and is the UK’s third largest scheduled airline; notable destinations include Norway , Morocco, Cyprus and Iceland . 

The winner: Ryanair

The loser: Wizz Air has a higher number of destinations than Jet2 – but the latter scoops Wizz on its choice of UK airports. It’s a tie.

Let’s say you want to fly from London to Malaga this summer, 13 to 21 July – hand luggage only , on the lowest-cost tariffs. Which airline has the cheapest return fares? 

The price per adult offered by Ryanair currently starts from £127.90 (departing Stansted, though you’ll need to leave Malaga at 5.55am); with easyJet it is £133.98 (from Gatwick, arriving in Malaga just after midnight). 

Wizz Air’s fares start from £219.98 (leaving Gatwick at 5.55am); Jet2’s start from £231 (departing Stansted at 9am). 

Prices were sourced directly from the airlines on April 18, 2024, and are inclusive of booking fees.

The winner: Ryanair, for a superb £127.90 per adult fare, return.

The loser: Jet2. However, this was the airline with the most “decent” flight timings for its cheapest tickets: departs Stansted at 9am, and departs Malaga at 8.25pm.

When it comes to seat width (which the industry generally measures in inches), our four airlines are pretty much equal. On Wizz’s Airbus A320 and easyJet’s Airbus A321neo, the seats are 18in wide. Opt for Jet2’s Boeing 737-300 or Ryanair’s Boeing 737-800, and you’ll miss out on an inch: their seat width is 17in.

But when it comes to seat pitch, there’s a clear winner. This is the distance between any point on one seat and the same point on the seat in front – so is a good measure of not only leg room, but “headspace” and perception of roominess in the cabin. According to Seat Guru, and verified by the airlines, Wizz’s seat pitch is 28in, easyJet’s 29in, Ryanair’s 30in, and Jet2’s 31in. 

The winner: Jet2

The loser: Wizz Air

If you boarded a flight anywhere last summer, chances are it was delayed or cancelled . Airport strikes, wildfires, air traffic meltdowns: which airline fared best against the odds?

The aviation analysts at OAG provided Telegraph Travel with data across more than half a million flights from June 1 to September 3, covering airlines departing from 48 UK airports. 

Ryanair operated 91,897 flights, of which 31.8 per cent arrived or departed on time. For easyJet, 44.7 per cent of its 111,551 flights were on schedule, while 57.7 per cent of Jet2’s 38,986 services ran as planned. 

The data from OAG suggested that Wizz Air managed to depart or arrive on time on just 7.8 per cent of its services. The airline contested the figure, insisting that “almost half” of departures and “almost 40 per cent” of arrivals were on time. It added: “The majority of delays were due to issues outside of Wizz Air’s control, such as the recent air traffic control fault, meaning these statistics are not an accurate representation of our overall performance.”

The loser: According to OAG, Wizz Air experienced the most disruption – though this figure was disputed by the airline – therefore it’s a tie between Wizz Air and Ryanair.

We compared the size and weight limits for free hand baggage, on a standard ticket. 

Jet2: 56 x 45 x 25cm (total volume 63,000cm3); maximum 10kg.

easyJet: 45 x 36 x 20cm (total volume 32,400cm3), “which needs to fit in our baggage gauge and under the seat in front of you”. Maximum 15kg.

Wizz Air: 40 x 30 x 20cm (total volume 24,000cm3), and “must be placed at the feet of the passenger under the seat in front of them”. Maximum 10kg.

Ryanair: 40 x 20 x 25cm (total volume 20,000cm3); no weight limit is listed.

The winner: easyJet’s 15kg limit is the most generous weight – but for size, Jet2 is the best. Its volume allowance is more than three times the size offered by Ryanair.

The loser: Ryanair

Best for checked-in luggage

When you pay to bring a suitcase, the fee structure varies wildly. For ease of comparison, the following covers luggage weighing 20kg or more, booked at the same time as your flight. 

With Ryanair, a 20kg bag costs £18.99 to £59.99, according to your route and travel dates – the lowest weight allowance of our four airlines. Excess baggage ranges from £9 to £11 per kilo, the cheapest fee in this comparison.

Jet2’s baggage add-on covers bags up to 22kg: costs vary, and it doesn’t quote a ballpark fee online if you don’t have a booking. According to mybaggage.com, the average cost is £21 each way. Excess weight is £12 per kilo.

Wizz charges between £8.25 and £87.11 for a 20kg bag, in peak season, with an excess fee of £12 per kilo. On easyJet, 23kg of hold luggage costs from £9.49 per item; excess weight is £12 per kilo.

The winner:  The varying prices make it hard to compare fees, but easyJet’s baggage allowance is the most generous, at 23kg.

The loser: It’s a tie: Ryanair and Wizz Air offer 20kg each. The latter’s upper threshold is the most costly, though Jet2 isn’t transparent about its fees unless you have a booking with them.

To change a name on a booking, Ryanair charges £115 per flight. To change your flights costs £45, plus any additional fare. To check in at the airport rather than on the app, Ryanair charges £30 or £55 if flying from Spain. Boarding pass reissue is £20.

Name changes with Jet2 cost £35; flight changes are £35, plus any additional fare. No charge for airport check-in or boarding pass print-out.

With easyJet, name changes cost £55; flight changes are £25 if more than 60 days before travel, or £49 if within 60 days, plus any additional fare. There is no charge for airport check-in or boarding pass print-out. 

Name changes with Wizz cost £55; flight changes cost £36.50 to £46, plus any additional fare. If you want to check in at the airport, you can pre-book online for £11.50 per flight; airport check-in without pre-booking costs £35.50.

Be warned: in many instances, the above fees are higher if arranged via a customer services agent, rather than online. 

Jet2 is the only airline not to offer speedy boarding as an optional add-on. But if you want to board first (or at least be in the queue to board first), Ryanair’s priority access costs from £6 to £36, and includes two cabin bags.

Wizz’s package costs up to €58.80 (£50.62) when booked in advance, and includes priority boarding and check-in, plus a carry-on wheelie. To get “Speedy Boarding” on easyJet, you’ll need an easyJet Plus card (£215 annually), pay for a Standard Plus or Flexi fare, or add a large cabin bag to your booking – priced “from £5.99”.

The winner: There really isn’t much between easyJet and Ryanair

The loser: Jet2, for not offering the option

On customer review website Trustpilot, Jet2 is by far the best-rated of the airlines – scoring an overall 4.5 (“Excellent”) out of a possible five. It has five-star reviews from 72 per cent of reviewers; four stars from 14 per cent; and one star from 7 per cent. 

“Pleasant and attentive cabin crew,” reads one verified Jet2 customer review. “Friendly and informative captain. Took off an hour late but we made up 25 minutes. Excellent.”

It’s a different story for the rest of the pack. Ryanair and easyJet both score 1.4 stars overall, and Wizz Air 1.3 stars (out of five). A total of 89 per cent of Wizz customers awarded it just one star.

“Robbery,” states a reviewer of one of the airlines. “I don’t understand why people still buy ticket[s] from that airline… [it] should not be allowed to operate in our society.”

The loser: Wizz

In last year’s Telegraph Travel Awards, Jet2 was voted “best short-haul airline” – scooping the top spot for the second consecutive time. Almost 30,000 readers voted in the awards, widely praising Jet2 for its clear contact with passengers, and giving refunds without fuss . 

Further down the table, easyJet took 10th place, Ryanair 22nd and Wizz Air came 23rd – the very last place. Wizz faced criticism from Telegraph readers for its slow refunds, last-minute cancellations and poor customer service .

Bravo to Jet2, which is rated consistently high for customer satisfaction, baggage allowance and comfort – while offering the lowest fees and fines among its peers. Our study suggests it doesn’t come cheap, though: in our fare comparison, it was the most expensive by £103.10.

At the other end of the spectrum, the wooden spoon goes to Wizz. It tallies three individual “loser” titles and three shared ones, and no “wins” to its name – thanks to hefty delays, terrible reviews, reportedly poor service and measly bag allowance.

A Wizz Air spokesperson said: “We do not consider these findings to be representative and the results are most certainly not what we are hearing from our customer surveys.

“Our most recent customer data shows Wizz Air’s brand consideration to be higher than our main UK competitor. We also perform better in customer service, refunds, ease of booking and information provided to customers.

“We are proud to have offered more than 90 million customers affordable airfares, getting them from A to B for the lowest price possible.

“Regarding costs, ticket prices and optional extras are clearly outlined on our website and app. We are an ultra-low-cost carrier and to keep our fares low, we offer optional add-ons at an additional charge, such as checked luggage or preferential seating. Unbundling products means that customers only pay for what they need and we can offer the most affordable and exciting travel opportunities.

“In terms of performance, 2023 was one of our strongest summers to date. We completed more than 99.36 per cent of our flights and saw a 67.4 per cent reduction in the number of cancellations. In the last fiscal year, our on-time performance was better than all but one of our major competitors.”
