Is Trafalgar tours worth it?

Now that we know a little more about what Trafalgar Tours offers, the next question is - are their tours worth it?

The short answer is yes!

Trafalgar Tours is an excellent choice if you're looking for an all-inclusive tour. Choose Trafalgar if you want someone else to take care of everything from accommodation to transfers to meals. With over 70 years of experience, they know how to create unforgettable vacations.

However, trips can get strenuous, especially with daily train travel. Discuss your interests with Trafalgar's customer service if you're looking for a more relaxed vacation. They can help you create a more customized trip that still includes all the best parts of a Trafalgar tour.

There have been reports of departure delays and itinerary changes. While this is rare, it's best to prepare yourself for the possibility. Make sure you have travel insurance and read reviews before booking anything.

But overall, we think Trafalgar Tours is worth it! But only if you're looking for a stress-free tour that's well-organized. But if it's a more relaxed vacation you're after, consider other travel organizers like  Intrepid Travel  and  EF Go Ahead .

  • Older travelers (but all ages are welcome)

Winery in Europe tour with Trafalgar

If you are an active traveler, perhaps recently retired, eager to explore the world in comfort, visiting a nice combination of unique local spots and classic sites, then Trafalgar could be a great choice.

Possibly you are new to group tours and packages, having been used to creating your own travel experiences at a younger age - Trafalgar provides the perfect introduction to group tours.

You'll have plenty of free time to explore on your own, for shopping, sightseeing, and meals away from the group. Optional excursions are available throughout the itinerary for when you want a bit more structure.

Families will also get a lot out of the Trafalgar travel experience. If you're seeking a family vacation and interested in introducing a new generation of travelers to your favorite country - but don’t really have the time or patience to worry about planning out all the logistics - Trafalgar could be a great choice.

While they offer many trip styles, suitable for travelers of all ages, their classic touch is popular among older travelers. Classic doesn’t mean old fashioned or tired - simply a bit less on the active adventure and more on the historic sights and cultural experiences. They have a number of family focused tours, as well as tailored trips for special interests.

Trafalgar trips are budget friendly, with most trips in middle to low range, including a “Cost Saver” feature that allows you to see more inexpensive trips broken down by ratings and cost clearly. They offer several deals on trips throughout the year.

Italy iconic cultural sites tour with Trafalgar

With Trafalgar, you can find trips to Europe , USA & Canada , South America , Asia, Australia & New Zealand. While the destinations are widespread, Trafalgar trips explore the culture and their highly trained local guides take you to hidden local spots without venturing too far outside the comfort zone.

Tours in Europe and the UK are among the most popular itineraries, utlizing guest houses and even castles for accommodation!

Their USA & Canada tours are extremely popular for outdoorsy travelers. National Parks are a common itinerary item, as are trips along the Rocky Mountaineer railroad.

In South America, Trafalgar travels to Argentina, Brazil, Chile , Ecuador and Peru . In Africa, they go to Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. In Asia, it’s Cambodia , China, Japan, Thailand , and Vietnam.

And in the Pacific, Trafalgar visits Australia and New Zealand - some trips in this region are more basic when it comes to accommodation so be sure to read the itinerary carefully!

Wherever you go, you can expect high quality guides, unique destination-specific accommodations, and smooth travels.

They also have a number of religious themed tours, including trips that include excursions to Oberammergau, Bavaria. Once a decade this small town presents a Passion Play, and Trafalgar has had special access since 1970. The next time to experience this unique event is 2020.

Trafalgar Travel Style

The Trafalgar travel style is all about getting to know the culture through activities and connecting with locals. Their main tagline is “Discover the Good Life”. On Trafalgar tours, you get to experience the real thing in a safe, escorted environment with knowledgeable guides there to help with the language and provide historical and cultural context.

Iceland Reykjavik city tour Trafalgar

"Discovering the Good Life" encompasses perks like skipping lines and private access to classic sites; and unique experiences that bring you to places and among people you’d never have the chance to meet traveling on your own.

This kind of travel is local immersion, but not in the same way a 25 year old might interpret that idea.

Rather than bunking at hostels, going out late at night, and enjoying potentially questionable street food, you’ll stay in premium, centrally located and culturally significant accommodations - everything from bed and breakfasts in Ireland to hotels right on the banks of Norwegian fjords.

Learn cooking techniques in Italy , enjoy private winery tours at French chateaus, and touring a small olive farm in Spain are just a few examples of the kind of unique travel experiences you can expect with Trafalgar.

Groups are large, typically between 40-45 travelers, a max of 52 on trips in the USA and Canada. Primary transportation during the tour is in large coaches, equipped with WiFi (with the exception of Alaska) and featuring large viewing windows - ideal for taking in the scenery as you head to your next spot on the itinerary.

Most meals during Trafalgar tours are included. Trips often include free time during which you can explore on your own, with suggestions from your expert guides.

Why Choose a Tour with Trafalgar?

  • Well known company
  • Culturally rich experiences in comfort
  • Many activities included, plus some optional choices
  • All guides are expertly trained
  • Large groups of international travelers

France castle tour with Trafalgar

Trafalgar has a solid reputation, and they stick to what they’ve done well for over 50 years. They focus on the classics, providing a culturally rich perspective as you meet locals along the way. Their experience has allowed them to cultivate relationships around the world with local businesses - quality control you can trust for every stop along the trip.

Niche tours based on specialized interests are also something they are proud to offer. Trafalgar is where you go to have the essentials and logistics take care of seamlessly while you sit back and enjoy. Do note that these tours can be quite large - 40 people traveling together in a tour group can be stifling for some.

While they appeal to an older crowd due to their history and recognizable name, Trafalgar has an impressively well integrated social media presence. Trips on their site are accompanied by instagram posts from real travelers who have been on the same tour, using the hashtag #SimplyTrafalgar.

Old or young(ish), couple or single, traveling Simply Trafalgar inspires confidence, comfort, and enjoyment.

Costsaver tour. Can't recommend. Yes, it's a budget tour, but the hotels are too far away from city centers and attractions to be able to plan anything on your own. You are pretty much forced into their overpriced optional excursions, which is NOT as advertised - their slogan is a tour done "your way". Meals were just incredibly bad. Of the four free included dinners, we skipped two because food was TV dinner quality at best and we were in Italy! Don't do this - you can do better on your own with a little planning.

I had a tour scheduled and completely paid in full. Two months before the trip Trafalgar cancelled it. I lost the airfare cost even though I had purchased their trip insurance. I tried to change the date of the trip to one in 2024 and was told there was a 50/50 chance that one would be cancelled also. Obviously I will never book a trip with them again.

Customer service and help line are simply awful. Hours of waiting on hold. Most of the time to no avail. Hotels were mediocre at best. Provided meal weren't even mediocre. Bus was good. Tours were ok. Won't use them again.

My wife and I took the Trafalgar Tours Britain and Ireland Highlights tour in mid-October. It was a bus tour that started in London, although there were no organized activities in London itself. It was just the meeting and end points. We had a tour director, a wellness director and our driver, 46 people plus the three staff. This was our first time in the UK and our first tour with Trafalgar. The hotels they chose, with one exception, were all very good, clean, comfortable, with breakfasts included. The tour was hectic but we saw a lot of places that we might have missed on our own. Our tour director, Kate Allen, was a Scot and an amazing story teller. She provided fascinating history lessons and anecdotes all day, got all of the group's tickets at various venues, e.g. Edinburgh Castle, Stonehenge, Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon, etc. Our wellness director kept track of everyone and was diligent in spraying our hands with sanitizer before allowing us back on the bus. Our driver Ian was amazing. He handled our very large bus as nimbly as if it were a family sedan, smoothly and expertly navigating the very narrow roads and lanes as well as the highways. We felt very safe riding with him. Highly skilled and a great attitude. The one hotel we didn't like was the Novotel in Glasgow. Beds were hard as rocks and the staff was careless with our luggage. All of the others were very nice. We had two nights in Dublin but only one night everywhere else. The optional experiences on the tour were well worth the additional cost and were chosen to provide a great overview of the UK and Ireland. By the way, in Dublin, do not miss the Guinness Storehouse tour. It's a fascinating history lesson and, on the top floor, tourists get a free pint. What a civilized idea. We had a great time and would consider doing another Trafalgar tour.

This company use to be good but now customer service has tanked. It's impossible to get through by phone and zero response by email. Trust me, there are so many other tour companies out there, find one that works for you. It's too much of a headache. Do your research, read reviews, and find a company that prioritizes the customer that keeps them in business.

Booked precovid to Japan. They canceled. Thereafter requiring full vaccinations with boosters. 2 of us are vaccinated x2. We don't want boosters. One is unvaccinated. I did not book a trip with a vaccination requirement. They have not refunded us and for 2 years caused us aggravation. They don't answer the phone or inquires. Even our travel agent is having a hard time getting communication from them. We were willing to go elsewhere in USA or to a country with covid test but Trafalgar insists on vaccinations. We want a refund. Do not book with them. They can't be trusted. They have $21,000.00 of our money for 2 years. Airline refunded immediately.

I joined a group tour on Trafalgar's Costsaver program and wanted to post a few tips/warnings. Although the itinerary was great (Spain and Portugal), and the tour leader and driver were great, there were some things that I wish I knew ahead of time: 1) Activities that are included on most other tours are "optional," on a lot of Trafalgar tours. This ended up costing an extra $600 during the tour. 2) The group size was HUGE-48 people. 3) The hotels were not only pretty bad, they were all FAR away from the city centers and attractions. This meant that we always had to either take public transportation a long way, or spend a lot of money on cabs. Hotels were too far away to walk anywhere. 4) When they emailed and asked me to post a review, they only asked ONE question, "How was the service?". Since the tour guide was great I gave them a 5 star review, thinking there would be more questions about other aspects of the tour after I clicked the Next button. That was the end of the survey- ONE question. I feel this is deceptive because it looks like the tour got an overall 5 star rating when I would have rated the OVERALL tour 2 stars. They didn't let me review the hotels, activities, etc. which I would have given much lower ratings. BE VERY AWARE before you book.

We went on a Highlights of Bohemia tour (east europe) departing from Frankfurt. The tour is sufficient for getting from point A to B without anything truly catastrophic from happening, but the included excursions are truly bare bones. They try to make more money off of you with the optional excursions that are extra. The quality of hotels was inconsistent and the included food was inedible! Perhaps this was also due to the fact that European food sucks at baseline, but the dinners were not even local fare! For example, we were given Russian pasta in Hungary. Best hotel was Radisson in Warsaw. One hotel in Berlin did not even have free wifi (wtf). To add insult to injury, the tour director actually requested tip (approx $150 per person) and positive feedback. Trafalgar should pay their employees and contractors a fair wage given how pricey the tour already is! They should really abolish this tipping nonsense.

We took a tour of Copper Canyon this past week (over Christmas), starting 12/18/16, ended on 12/25/16. It was the longest and most boring, exhausting trip I ever took. Not much to see or do, mediocre food (not your typical flavorful and delicious Mexican meals) - quite often we would go out and have some street tacos to remind ourselves of real Mexican food. With Mexican peso plummeting by 25% we l stayed at places that were similar to Motel 8 (about 50% of the lodging places). THE HIGHLIGHT WAS CHRISTMAS DINNER AT MACDONALD'S!!! AFTER 12 HOURS OF DRIVING ON CHRISTMAS DAY! Thank you Trafalgar. Never again will I ever travel with you!

Took an express trip to Stonehendge. Very very clean and modern bus, most excellent and informative driver. Stonehendge was an incredible experience! Affordable, on time. Highly recommend.

We recently took the Best of Britain tour with our 80 year "young" mother. She is mobile but uses a cane for mobility. I tried to find out details before the trip about walking, etc. but Trafalgar would only say you will get your details from the Travel Director who you don't see until the first day although you do get an advance email. But that is too LATE to decide if the trip is appropriate. If you can not walk at least 2 miles over uneven ground, uphill and navigate many stairs do not take this trip. I would advise checking all trips carefully because Trafalgar will say "the trip is appropriate up to 99 years old" and it is NOT. Also the bus seats are only comfortable if you are UNDER 5 feet 10 inches. My husband, my brother-in-law and myself were miserable and in pain because we could not sit in the seats without turning our legs sideways. It was painful. But we could have endured that. It was the fact that my mother-in-law missed out on many of the experiences due to the amount of walking. Someone should have informed us. It was our first trip to Europe and we did not realize the walking involved. We could have chosen a different itinerary. This is also a very packed trip with early wake-ups and riding on the bus ALOT. The bathroom is in the middle of the bus down some stairs so it is virtually inaccessible. So if you are taking water pills as an elderly person - forget this trip. We travel a lot and I do not leave negative reviews even if things are not exactly right. I expect issues when traveling. But I do not want other folks going through what my mother-in-law did.

Sorry this happened to you. Hopefully anyone reading this will learn to never book a tour without getting such vital information prior to committing to it.

I, too, am so very sorry you had a difficult and miserable trip.

Many tour companies have a notation on how much walking is expected or how "active" a tour is. I looked at the Trafalgar website and did not see this information right away. The 2 companies I use most do post the activity level and it's pretty spot on.

I'll also add that there is a trick to reading a tour itinerary. In looking at this one it's advertised as 11 days (10 nights) and 19!!! cities. Wow, just looking at that makes me tired and includes huge amounts of bus time plus many one-night stays.

I'm so sorry you did not get the information you needed from Trafalgar before you booked!

I hope your MIL was able to see some things she was interested in.

Thank you for posting. I hope it will help someone else before they book and pay for a big trip.

Was it this tour?

https://www.trafalgar.com/en-gb/tours/best-of-britain

Wow! I’m afraid that even reading the itinerary is exhausting. Three countries in 11 days? It’s very clear you’re going to be on the move each day and the distances are likely to mean they’ll be long days, much of it spent looking through the window of your coach.

In future I’d suggest you do more research before travelling; if the company doesn’t provide the information you need and the reviews don’t help, then ask specific questions. Most coaches here have toilets which are down steps and they’re not really intended for anything other than occasional use between comfort stops. My experience in many other countries is the same but perhaps that’s not the case in the US or you haven’t done any coach holidays there.

Don’t ask “is it suitable for an 80 years old?” It may be suitable for lots of 80 year olds but not those who are less mobile. Ask “can someone with mobility issues access the toilet on the coach, are there steps?”, “what time do we leave the hotel each day?”, “how long do we have in x?” “What is the seat width and pitch?”

If the answers don’t suit, then don’t book. Overall, be realistic. The U.K. packs an awful lot of history, heritage and beauty in a relatively small space so don’t expect to see everything in a short time. It also packs a lot of traffic on to its roads.

Even with those companies providing more information you need to learn the language used so “you’ll see” or “we’ll pass” means you’ll stay on the coach and glimpse places as you’re driven past, maybe too fast to even take photos.

I see that you stayed for a week in Paris. Was this at the beginning or end of your Britain trip? Did ypu also use a tour company or do it independently?

We did 4 days in London prior to the coach trip and we a week in Paris afterwards. We planned all this on our own and it was great. I did a lot of research before the trip for the days before and the days after the coach. I tried to research the coach trip through phone calls and chatting with them online. On the chat the lady actually disconnected when I continued to ask questions. We went through AAA for the coach trip - my mother-in-law picked out this part of the trip. We tried to find out information from AAA but they didn't have any details. I read every single review (over 300) on their webpage. It was our first coach trip but not our mother's. On previous coach tours (all US) the bathroom was at the back so apparently that is a US thing. We travel a lot in US, Mexico, Canada and Caribbean but never on a coach. I think we were not prepared for the coach tour. The rest of the trip was great. I only posted because I wish it was a review I had read before our trip. My husband and I will be going to Italy next year but we will be planning that one - we are too tall for long bus rides!

As I said earlier too bad this happened. But, you obviously are more experienced than I thought. I hope the whole experience has taught you a lesson.

"I read every single review (over 300) on their webpage."

This is a problem as well...many companies cherry pick reviews they allow on their website.

I enjoy tours in Europe but I have also discovered that the coaches sometimes have more room down one side than the other. I travel solo so usually have 2 seats to myself so it's not a problem on the 25-person (or less) tours I'm on.

In Europe I've never seen a coach bathroom other than the kind that is down the steep middle stairwell and then it's the size of a teeny broom closet. In the back is usually the 5-seat across formation which is also where there is leg room although sometimes there is a step up to get to that area.

I hope you went back to your AAA Travel Agent. They should have known better if they had any experience at all to be able to tell you a lot of walking was involved. However if someone hasn't traveled to Europe sometimes they just don't understand. I might actually have a chat with the manager of the AAA office as their folks don't seem very well-trained.

It sounds like your Italy trip will be great! And I'm glad London and Paris were fun (aren't they always, lol!!).

I am very worried as we need this sorted and no one is assisting us.

I PAID IN FULL for a tour that is meant to happen on 4 December this year. For the first four or so months of having paid up every time I rang they didn't even have me on their files and could not find me - I still have emails to this regard on file. Then I started asking questions about whether the tour was going to run or not as I kept seeing it still not filling up or running. This company wants only 45 day leeway to advise if it is NOT going to run BUT they want 100 day leeway from myself if I want to cancel my booking. Well, I HAVE requested a cancellation (and emailed them a letter written in handwriting as they request "A notification in writing from the customer" and they simply won't reply! Attempts at emailing have not received ANY REPLIES. I want you to know that I have done this way before 4 December and heard nothing from them! Ringing is impossible. The reason I cancelled is because a) my daughter is really introverted and has gotten worse since uni so we don't think the bus trip with so many others would be good for her; b) I have asked and asked if the coach has even filled a bit or what's happening to NIL response, and c) Just the attitude from them and the lack of care/concern re our account (I can't even see half the itinerary on the website, again, told them, nothing happened about it, it just cuts out). So I have cancelled in time and advise you of that now, but reading what I have, they DON'T REFUND in a timely mannner and I need my $7K to organise something else. Can't trust the trip to go and they want 100 days cancellation FROM us but only want to give 45 TO us if it DIDN'T go. Not enough time for us to organise something else. Should this not be resolved I'll take it as high as possible as this is the last trip we will be doing as mum and daughter, and also, the TV programs are asking for these things to be told and to show the companies that are not treating everyone very well. I am beside myself as this $ is inheritence and needs to be given back so we can do what is right by my sister, who wished us this, and we want to do it asap but we need that refund to do so.

@iglis, you've posted this on every Trafalgar thread so I have no idea what country the tour is in or if you bought insurance or not. You posted on the Italy and Ireland site so assume your doing a tour in Europe? It appears that Trafalgars cxl policy is based on how long you cxl'd and the fee is the loss of your deposit and some other small fees. If you had cxl for any reason then this might be a separate issue. When Trafalgar asks for a written notice you can type a e mail you certainly don't have to 'handwrite' a notice. Having a paper trail is much better just using e mail. You might also wish to start your own 'thread' since the replies to your concern will also generate a notice to the original poster on this and the Italy and the Ireland thread and your question has nothing to do with the postings you've added to. Just trying to explain how Tripadvisor works.

Worst communication

It was the worst communication experience I have had with any service company. Last month, I tried to book the "European Whirl" summer trip for family of four. Their customer service phone was always busy, the online chat was slow and the outsourced reps were not helpful. The only way to communicate was through email. But most emails were generated by system so they never really answered my questions. When I complained, I got an email like: we are extremely busy now, and the average call waiting time is more than 3 hours, you have to wait in the line just like everybody else... It seems like they did not want to do business with me and I was begging them to take my money. So I ended up booking a similar trip with another company which I intentionally called three times just to make sure their customer service was working. Absolutely Unbelievable!

Terrible Trip

Terrible Trip 1) Keep selling optionals which cost over 800 USD and the tours are a rip off and good profit for Trafalgar. 2) Schedule was changed to ACCOMMODATE those optional tours. If you do not take the optionals, you are brought back to hotel at 3plus pm every other day, or wait in the hotel until noon doing nothing. Also sat in the cold doing nothing for 4 hours while waiting for optional tour to finish (and i wasnt informed/headsup that there was nothing to do there if i didnt take the optional). If these optional tour are not so optional, please just include in the price in the tour in the 1st place so people can budget accordingly and not get a big surprise that there is basically nothing much to do unless you join the optional. 3) I am paying more than 200EUR per day just to sit in buses for long hours and then brought to hotel to "rest" 4) Tour Director FORGOT the special gift for ONLY for myself as a returning traveller - maybe because i only joined less optional tour and not "important" enough. Other returning travellers got it. Better go to a budget tour, GoEUGo (google this) which i went in my student days and cost HALF of what trafalgar is offering and i had a much better experience there. The only difference i see is that Trafalgar provides porterage and 2-3 dinner meals during the trip compared to what GoEUGo is offering. Disappointing experience and never joining trafalgar tours again.

We appreciate the time you took to provide us with your valuable feedback. We strive to understand our guests' experience, and we apologise that the trip did not meet your expectations. Although the coach rides may have been long and the trip pace dynamic, we hope you enjoyed the fantastic attractions we planned for you. We understand that our guests have varied expectations when it comes to travel, and we offer flexibility to allow them to visit restaurants and experience different sights at their leisure, apart from the group. These Optional Experiences provide a deeper insight into the culture and character of the areas we visit and offer some great highlights without replacing or overlapping anything included in the itinerary. Guests not participating in the Optional Experiences can make their plans or see the destination. These experiences are not mandatory and can be booked at the client's discretion. To help our clients prepare and budget accordingly, all Optional Experiences information and our itineraries are preloaded on our website. We apologise that you did not receive your return guest gift. We appreciate your patronage. If you would like to receive your gift, please contact our Guest Relations Department at [email protected], and they will raise your concern with the correct department. While we note that you may not choose to travel with Trafalgar again, we wish you all the best in your future vacation endeavours, wherever they take you.

Not for seasoned travelers

Not for seasoned travelers, or people who need detail. First and last tour with Trafalgar. We did the Imperial Europe tour, and they don't provide any details as to bus travel time or when you'll be free to do whatever you want until the day of. You will spend about half the tour on a full bus. Trafalgar's response that they send documents with details is a lie - they send the same generic itinerary that is listed on the website - no specific details or even time ranges as to travel/arrival times in each city. A quarter of the bus came down with COVID (including us) and there were no rules to ensure that everyone else wouldn't get sick. Hotels were good (except Salzburg), provided meals were awful. The included morning city tours were awful - you get so much more detail by taking a free tour instead. We didn't get to do the one additional tour that we actually wanted to do. It was canceled on the way, and we wasted the entire day waiting to move on to the next city. Barely had any time to do our own thing. Were hustled from one city to the next, and didn't have one morning to sleep in. The one upside is that they lugged our bags from the room to the bus. Downside: if you arrive early, or leave late, they won't include the airport transfer. So stupid. Never again.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your recent trip to Europe. We regret that your pre-trip experience did not meet your expectations and that you needed to be better informed about the transfer options available on our trips and the information on the detailed itinerary. Our itineraries and vouchers are sent to our guests' provided email addresses approximately three weeks before the journey starts. We apologise for any inconvenience caused if you did not receive these documents; however, to prevent future occurrences, we encourage you to reach out to us if you have any concerns, and our friendly consultants will ensure that you receive all necessary documentation before your departure. We provide complimentary transfers to and from your tour hotel on the first and last days of your itinerary for most destinations, as long as your flight arrives and departs within our standard transfer times. If you plan to arrive earlier or depart later than your scheduled itinerary dates, you can purchase a transfer service from us, provided that you have booked your extra hotel night(s) through us. We’re saddened to read that your trip experience was negatively affected by COVID, and we hope you have fully recovered. Now that the world has completely reopened for travel and COVID is no longer considered a public health emergency, our On Road team will follow the advice of the local government and health authorities of the regions visited. While our team may still advise face masks and hand washing, these are no longer compulsory and can be used at a traveller’s discretion. At times, ensuring that our guests can take in as many beautiful attractions as possible and make the most out of the snapshot of time they spend in each region can mean lengthier periods of travel and some early starts. Please be assured that we have shared your comments with our Product Development team to establish what potential improvements we might make in the future. We understand your disappointment that specific details may have differed from your original itinerary; however, at times, for the safety of our valuable travellers, there are occasions of last-minute changes to an itinerary or Optional Experience due to unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, travellers should always be informed regarding these last-minute changes. While we note that you may not choose to travel with Trafalgar again, we do wish you all the best in your future travel adventures.

Reviews DO matter!

Wow! I was on the cusp of booking with Trafalgar but had a couple of questions. The website has a chat room and I waited a good amount of time before someone would "chat" with me. "Cassandra" enters the chat and did NOT answer my particular question. lnstead, she gave me a link to a brochure to many other tours they had and then promptly disconnected us! I then called their phone number in hopes of talking to a live person and was put on hold and never spoke with anyone. I was curious about Trafalgar reviews in hopes that Cassandra was just a random nonhelpful employee and that in general, they do answer their phone calls; however, it appears that "Cassandra" actually does represent the company! I feel like I dodged a bullet or perhaps I should be charitable and say that maybe I just fell through the cracks on an off day. I'll be looking for another tour company. Thank you to all who took the time to share your experiences so that the rest of us can have some guidance in selecting a tour company.

We just finished The Best of Canada…

We just finished The Best of Canada tour with Trafalgar and it was first class every day. Hotels were beautiful and located in great areas. Bus and driver were great. Tour director was the best! I would recommend them. And we,like others, had 2 trips canceled and we waited along with thousands of others for a refund. But we knew it was going to take time and patience is a wonderful thing! We will travel with them again.

I have TWO trips planned for 2023 and I…

I have TWO trips planned for 2023 and I haven't even taken them yet and this one star is all I can give Trafalgar. They offer a phone number that is useless -no one answers. They offer a chat session that is also useless. I have gone on there SIX times and each time I have been hung up on and disconnected and no one on their end makes any effort to get back with me. I have asked if they are human to which there is no reply. I ask to speak to a supervisor and the robot wants to know why. The absolute worst communication. They asked me to fill out a survey and if I did they would grant me a $250 voucher to use on an upcoming trip. I did my part, but they won't do theirs and can't even ask why because they don't pick up the damn phone!!!

Don't trust Trafalgar.

Booked a trip through Trafalgar to Germany and Austria for July 7/2020. Started paying 4/2018. Paid final payment on 11/2019. Total of $9,476.16. Trip was cancelled due to Covid. We were given the option of a refund or if we let the money ride, no matter the cost of the trip when it finally happens, we would owe NO MORE MONEY. Initially booked the trip with 3 extra days at a cost of $720. With Covid still prevalent, we cancelled the 3 extra days early on. Have been trying for months to get the refund of $720. After waiting hours on the phone for a Trafalgar customer service agent, our travel agent explained that there is no money in our account for a refund. The Trafalgar agent said, "The airplane tickets were more money." What about the promise of "if you let the money ride?" Trafalgar had our money for over 2 1/2 years. We could have at least earned a bit of interest if it was in our possession. First and Last trip with Trafalgar. Don't trust them.

So far my experience has been awful

So far my experience has been awful. I paid upfront the full fare of our tour and I’ve canceled way before time to no avail so far. No reply to my emails and I have emailed a handwritten letter as well. For the first four months every time I had a query they couldn’t find me in their system and yet I was holding the paperwork as I communicated! It’s been hideous. Now we want to cancel as the trip so far is not going and I don’t trust it to, and they are not replying to me! When they did reply before I emailed to cancel, their assistance wasn’t thorough at all. I will go to the ACCC as I’ve read below that they don’t refund and can’t afford the delay of $7k returned. We need to make other arrangements and other bookings. They want us to give 100 days notice but they’ll only give you 45 if the trip doesn’t happen. That’s not fair or helpful.

Trafalgar is worst Tavel operator for Customer Sevice

Trafalgar cancelled a trip for Canada that we had paid for in full as the borders were closed and asked us to take a credit towards our next trip. That was in 2019. We finally applied that credit for a trip to Greece and plus an additional $1550.00 on June 30, 2021. By July 31, 2021 the CDC was warning that Greece was Level Red and we should not travel to Greece. Our trip was scheduled for August 30th. We were unable to give them 30 days cancellation notice and now not only are they charging a 50% penalty they want us to take another credit. We asked if we could postpone our trip to next April and they said No. we’ve done a couple of other trips with them and I considered them to be a class act. It troubles me that they are not worried about our welfare and I have to ask “are they about to close their business?” I will never travel with them again based on how they’ve treated me and others during this worldwide pandemic!

They've lost my £10,000 at the first hurdle!

A potential customer in the process of booking a tour for nearly £10,000 with Trafalgar, who thankfully stopped before it was too late. We had a few questions to ask before final completion of our booking, but this utterly USELESS company can't even provide a sales team to answer the phone or web chat in a timely and efficient manner. After several failed attempts to contact them I decided to look here on TrustPilot to see if I was just being unlucky, and WOW thank goodness I did! I note their customer service reviews have been consistently atrocious for a very long time, without any responses or comments from Trafalgar, and apparently without them taking any action to rectify their appalling performance. Over the years I've found many companies with slick and efficient sales teams but poor after-sales, but Trafalgar appear not even to have a competent sales department! This defies any semblance of commercial logic. If they can't even afford to employ sales staff how can they expect to make sales and take any money? They have certainly failed to take mine. Just staggering incompetence at the very first encounter, so heaven knows how bad they would be thereafter, and I'm not waiting around to find out. Many thanks to all here who have taken the trouble to write reviews. Looks like you have saved me a whole pile of grief.

NOT A "GREAT" EXPERIENCE!!

We were with a group of primarily older couples guided by a much younger marathon runner tour guide for our Exploring London Tour. 1. Daily activities schedules were not provided to members of the group but were posted only in the hotel lobby. Guide provided updates once by email at 11:27 p.m. while most were sleeping. 2. No rating of difficulty for daily excursions whether included or paid additional excursions was provided. Our guide was much too fast making the excursioins either moderate or difficult at best. 3. Much too long on busses with inadequate convenience stops for older people. Parking was an issue at many venues where significant distances had to be covered just to get to the area that was of interest. Routes were changed with little or no notice and one venue on a paid excursion was closed. 4. No effort to provide transportation to closed venue the next day nor was any refund offered, however, on other days the bus was re-routed to accommodate drop-offs of others near venues not included in our tour. 5. One older gentleman was left behind because our guide did NOT count those on the bus prior to telling the driver to go ahead and depart. Gentleman had to take a cab back to our hotel. 6. Hotel accommodations were much less than expected. Tower Hotel, located near the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge, is very dated with bath tubs that were literally unsafe for seniors. No air conditioning or heating control available in individual rooms. Rooms were much too warm to sleep well at night. Hotel offered a fan which we accepted but no fan ever showed up at our room. Expected a much better and well prepared overall tour package from a tour company as old and experienced as Trafalgar.

Don’t get injured with Trafalgar

Follow up: Trafalgar, did in fact, contact us. We spent 6 months with either our travel agent advocating on our behalf or directly contacting them. In the end... THEY HID BEHIND contract BS. A terrible experience all around. They do not care about clients and as the formulaic response below demonstrates. You don't matter with Trafalgar... a billion dollar corporation protecting their bottom line. ---‐--‐------------------------------------ Don’t get injured with Trafalgar While travelling with Trafalgar on The Best of Italy Tour my wife fell on the marble floor of at The Grand Hotel in Sorrento on day 3 of our trip. She fell hard and was in shock at the breakfast table, shaking and cold. After the initial concern the Travel Director and hotel staff left us to our own devices. We were left to attempt to contact insurance in a hotel with phones that were not working and staff who apparently did not understand how to connect the phones so we could call out. On the advice of fellow travelers, we sought out medical assistance when we arrived in Assisi as the initial shock of the accident turned into significant pain the following day. It was as if the staff of Trafalgar had never dealt with an accident or injury before, and our Travel Director had 3 decades of experience! We requested assistance with the language barrier and were patronizingly assured that “someone would speak English”. The only one who did was the doctor who saw my wife; and her English was faulty. We were left to Google Translate to try to communicate. Going into the hospital my wife and I agreed that if her leg was fractured or broken, we would return home. X-rays revealed that she had sustained 3 fractured ribs and (the doctor stated) a badly bruised tibia. Upon returning home 2 weeks later, follow up x-rays found a fractured tibia. Unaware of the severity of the injury to her leg and assured by the doctor that the swelling would go down in 2-3 days. We decided that we should go on as another trip to Italy was not in our plans. Our Travel Director was often dismissive, seemed truly put out when we asked for accommodations such as wheelchairs and seating at the front of the bus. Fellow travelers offered more assistance and support than our Travel Director. Upon returning home we contacted Trafalgar as the two travel agents we worked with were both aghast with the poor level of care offered and recommended that we seek some form of compensation. Trafalgar has consistently side-stepped accepting responsibility for the inadequate support of its team in Italy and hidden behind its terms and conditions. We did not blame the company for the fall, rather expressed our extreme displeasure with the level of compassion and care that Trafalgar staff provided after the fall. We sought reimbursement as the trip was mired with issues that could have been easily and proactively managed if protocols and compassion were employed. Our travel agents will never engage Trafalgar again and we will not travel with this corporation.

Unfortunately I won't be taking a tour…

Unfortunately I won't be taking a tour with Trafalgar and wouldn't recommend anyone else use them either. My father used to say "If someone lies to you, then shame on you for doing business with them or their company". He also said, "That the truth can be misleading if spoken correctly", and trust me the representatives for Trafalgar are masters at using the right words and terms to mislead. This happened not just once from one representative, but twice and with different people at Trafalgar and rest assured don't believe anything they say without reading all the fine print and links and know what they mean when they say not to worry, your Tour or Cruise deposit is "Fully Refundable". You will NOT get your deposit money back, however if you look deep down in the fine print of your booking receipt you'll find a link for booking that says "not refundable, but able to be used for another trip with them within a year. This may have been a $400 lesson in trust, but I'll do my best to warn others with posts on social media and telling all my friends and neighbors who are also retired and travel. Not a company I'd recommend doing business with.

Never again

Should have read reviews before we traveled, have had same experience as many of the reviews, will never travel with Trafalgar or its other companies, they canceled a guaranteed departure ,then said they reimburse for expenses incurred with our having to rebook, absolute nightmare dealing with customer NO service. Trip was to Italy less than stellar, good but not great, go with anyone else. Hope this saves future headaches for fellow travelers.

FEEDBACK FOR GRAND EUROPEAN WITH EUROSTAR EXTENSION…

FEEDBACK FOR GRAND EUROPEAN WITH EUROSTAR EXTENSION  The management of the meals was very poor. On the first day itself, for the Welcome dinner, we did not get bread. When asked, we were told that the other tables finished it off, and there was none left. We were then given old bun. This was just for the two of us. Before the trip began, and multiple times during the tour, we had informed the Tour Director that we are Non-Vegetarians, but we don’t eat beef and pork and that we should be served Chicken or Fish in our meals. On many occasions, we were served only vegetarian food inspite of informing him earlier, much to our dislike. In fact, for one of the optional dinners (only I Asmita Anil Menon went for it), that costed 99 EUR, only vegetarian food was served. On asking the tour director, he in turn asked me what I eat, as if he doesn’t know. On enquiring the restaurant staff about this, they informed me that they don’t provide fish or chicken there. It’s either vegetarian or pork. Why did the tour director not inform this to me earlier when he knew well in advance that I have opted for this optional dinner? Inspite of me reiterating to him so many times, I had to eat the same vegetarian food. Why was I not informed earlier that food options are limited for that evening? 99 EUR is not a small amount. It was a complete waste of money as  I couldn’t eat anything. We had an itinerary. But the tour director kept changing the itinerary frequently at his whims and fancies, as a result of which we could not visit and see some very important places which were clearly mentioned in the itinerary. Focus was always shifted to the Optional experiences.

A despicable and terrible experience

A despicable and terrible experience. I booked their Best of Israel tour and paid $4,000 up front. Four days before departure my mother was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery. She is now in critical condition with a second surgery scheduled for the day the tour was to start, and I cannot leave home at this time. I contacted Trafalgar to tell them I needed to reschedule the trip due to these circumstances, and I would happily take the trip later. Trafalgar told me they "cannot reschedule the trip" but only cancel it; refund me 10%; and KEEP 90% OF THE MONEY AS A CANCELLATION FEE! They want to keep $3,600 for DOING NOTHING!!! These people are complete pigs. I travel two or three times a year and this was my first -- and last -- experience with this company. There is zero justification for a policy like this. Trafalgar brags about how it's been around for a hundred years and gives tours all over the world, and maybe their tours are good. I'll never know. The Best of Israel trip looked good, but this kind of despicable business practice amounts to thievery and I personally will not tolerate it. Yes, I can and will put in an insurance claim for the money but I'm going to sue them anyway. Please do not patronize a company that treats people like this. If we don't insist on an end to these kinds of predatory business practices, they will only get worse. I mean think of it: would you do this to a customer in my situation? Only a depraved company would act this way.

Currently on day 3 and I have quit…

Currently on day 3 and I have pulled out of all main tours as this whole experience is not worth the money or my time currently questioning to sort myself out transportation wise. ( long synopsis ahead) First of we are adults I get there are kids on the tour but you can’t take us to the beautiful places and give us 1 hour “free time” so pretty much the option is eat or do the sits you can’t do one or the other Myself and family have paid an astronomical amount thinking this would better for the older members in our group but on 2 occasions in 3 days random tour guides have just left and not let the elders keep up Secondly we have these optional tour guides come on and we don’t have to tip but they just stand at the entrance of the bus and make you feel guilty if you don’t ?? Thirdly the fine print always seems to be corporate way of sneaking around ethical decisions , so you pay roughly $3000 euro for the tour thinking it’s all catered then on day 2 you get a piece of paper that sums up if you want to do optional tours (that on the brochure made it seem you can just do these as it’s all paid for) you have to pay so only half your day is set up for and you have to pay for the optional which is about $1000 euro to do the activities. Overall shocking experience I couldn’t recommend this lower the reason I have given 2 stars is the hotels are lovely but they are all out of the main areas so you have to use Trafalgar as it’s to expensive to Uber or taxi and when asked why so far “ we just feel it’s better and to much tourist in the main area “ ok then , then what are we ??? Just randoms stuck in the outskirts GO WITH G ADVENTURES. They are 10000x better

Hi, I’m just looking for feedback on the 10 day Costsaver tour Italian Scene. Has anyone done this tour?

Costsaver is a division of Trafalgar just a more budget version. Reputable company. I wish TA had a tour operator forum but they don't. Perhaps someone will see this but people may have an experience with the tour operator and can give you some feedback.

I am interested in the Costsaver European Experience 12 day tour for June 2023.

What’s your thoughts on this tour?

Kind Regards,

Lynton Nathan

Before you book, check distances between overnight Hotels.

You can spend a lot of your vacation time on the bus, depending on itinerary.

I only travel (3 times) with Trafalgar.

Decent company, at least they were before pandemic.

Only difference will be Hotels (location, category)

Buses and guides will be the same.

The tours cannot be too bad.

Cannot comment on their Insurances and Refunds policy, this is very important right now.

I liked them before covid, but standards have dropped a lot.

How have you found the standards have dropped?

We went on the Costsaver European Discovery 28 day tour in May/June 2023. It was a great way to see the countries, but it was quite disciplined and we found rushed in most cases. The hotels were surely not up to our standards and we had changed rooms a few times due to the condition. (we are picky people but standing water in a tub and no pillow cases with stained pillows is just not acceptable!). On very hot days the guide did not read the room or so to say and insisted on still going on the long walk (which he had said it would be a five minute short walk) and it turned into over a hour without water, hats etc as we believed him that we would just be doing a quick stop. I guess its an experience. Would we do it again, most likely not.
