The Complete Guide to the NEW Saudi Family Visit Visa

Recently, I invited my father to visit us in Saudi Arabia, but after asking people about it, I realized that the procedure to obtain a Family Visit Visa has changed so much that I had little idea how to apply for it. So, I decided to some research and went to speak to the experts at the local Saudi passport office in order to get acquainted.

What is a Saudi Family Visit Visa? A visit visa is intended for immediate family members based outside Saudi Arabia allowing them to visit their loved ones who are normally resident in the kingdom. Two visit visa options are available; Single entry or Multiple entry. The first is for up to 30 days ONLY and is not renewable. The second is for up to 90 days ONLY. Then, the family visitor must leave and can reenter the kingdom for a further 3 months, up to 4 times.

The Saudi visa application system was recently upgraded and streamlined. This means that all visas including the Family Visit Visa are now processed online, from start to finish.

How much does a Saudi Family Visit Visa cost?

The application process for the Family Visit Visa involves both:

• Sponsor -The Iqama Holder Normally Resident In Saudi Arabia. 
• The Visiting Family Membe r ( s )- Normally Resident In The Home Country. 

The Iqama holder’s dependents cannot themselves apply for a visit visa application using their own Iqamas.  

What Are The Conditions For Use Of The Family Visit Visa?

NOTE : With a Single Entry Family Visit Visa, the visitor (s) can stay for up to 30 days in Saudi Arabia, but it must be used WITHIN 3 months of the issue date in the passport.

Note: For a Multiple Family Visit Visa, the visitor (s) can come and go to Saudi Arabia every three months up to 1 year. Family visitors must leave the kingdom on or before 3 months expires. It should be used WITHIN 1 year of the issue date in the passport.

Who is Eligible for the Family Visit Visa? 

The following are the eligible categories: 

First Line Relatives

• Wife/Husband
• Father/Mother
• Father in Law/Mother in Law
• Orphans (discretionary)
• Brothers/Sisters of foreign wives/husbands married to Saudis

Who is NOT eligible for a Family Visit Visa?

The following categories are not eligible for a Family Visit Visa. 

Distant Relatives

• Aunts/Uncles etc
• Nieces/Nephews
• Grandparents

The Resident Iqama Holder Applies For Family Visit Visa at MOFA Online and Prints a Completed Form

Documents required BEFORE applying:

• Resident Iqama Holder’s Valid Residency Permit i.e. the Iqama
• The Iqama With At least 4 month’s Validity 
• Copy of The Applicant (s) Passport-i.e. Visiting Family Member (s)
• Valid Profession of Iqama Holder

The application procedure for the family visit visa begins at the gateway to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) portal. Click here for the MOFA homepage.

• First, choose and click on E-Services
• Click on Residents
• Select Family Visit Visa
• Read the Service Details
• Click on Start The Service
• Choose Individuals
• Then, select Resident 
• Click I Agree if you agree to visa terms and conditions
• Enter Iqama Holder’s Residency Number (Iqama Number)
• Select Single or Multiple Entry
• Print the Form

Iqama Holder Takes the Completed Form to His/Her Sponsor to Sign and Stamp And If Needed to The Chamber of Commerce for Attestation

The sponsor then signs and stamps the document. If required for private company workers, the Saudi Chamber of Commerce can also attest it. Go there, pay 35 SR and get a printout.

Iqama Holder Checks His/Her MOFA Account To Confirm Acceptance And Sends Completed Form/Visa Number To Intending Visitor

• Select Application
• Enter Application Number
• Enter Iqama Number
• Enter Image Code
• Click Enquire
• Check Family Visit Visa Status

If yes, the Iqama holder sends a scanned copy of the completed, signed and stamped application form to the family member who is applying for the Family Visit Visa in his/her home country.

If it’s not ready, just wait. If it’s rejected, try again!

Iqama Holder/Visiting Family Member Registers, & Pays for Family Visit Visa at the Enjazat Website

For this you need:

• The Application Number
• Intending Visitor Passport Number and Applicant’s Bio Data
• MasterCard or Visa
• Intending Visitor Passport Size Photo

Family Member Visitor Submits Documents To Local Visa Agency Dealing With The Local Saudi Embassy/Consulate

There will be a local Visa Agency in your country who charges you to submit your passport and documents to the Saudi Embassy to complete the process of issuing the Family Visit Visa.

In some cases, you can do it yourself to avoid the agency fee. Embassy staff may allow you to submit your passport and documents personally at the Saudi Embassy. It has worked before for some people! Try your luck!

• Abshir Paper And Date Of Iqama Expiry
• Print out of Family Visit Visa
• Valid International Passport (Minimum 7 months validity remaining)
• Copy Of Sponsor’s Passport With 6 months validity
• Copy of Sponsor’s and Wife’s/Husband’s Passport
• Copy of Sponsor’s AND/OR Wife/Husband’s Residency Permit, the Iqama
• 4 passport size photos
• Certified Sponsor’s Marriage Certificate IF Applicant (s) is an In-laws (Attested by MOFA + One Copy)
• Certified Copy of Birth Certificate Of Son/ Daughter if Applicants (s) is an In-Laws (Attested by MOFA + One Copy) 
• Original B Form (Attested By MOFA And One Copy)
• Certified Copy of National ID Card of Applicant 
• Family Book If Necessary
• Certificate of Unmarried Female Above 18 years of Age (if required)

First, get your proof documents stamped and attested. Check how to do that in your country.

After compiling all the correct documents and checking your passport validity you can pay the agency fee and deposit your passport and documents at the Visa Agency.

The Saudi Embassy says the Family Visit Visa will be ready in up to 3 days under normal circumstances. Delays will involve requests for additional documents and/or checks

Visitor Collects Passport/Documents plus Issued Family Visit Visa From the Saudi Embassy 

The local visa agency you are dealing with will arrange an appointment for you to come to collect your passport with issued Family Visit Visa and the documents. It can take up to 3 days or more depending on each individual case. They can also deliver it to you by post.       

Family Visit Visa renewals, Insurance, and Penalties for Overstaying

Can you extend a saudi single entry family visit visa.

No, it is only valid for 30 days. On or before the 30 days have expired your visitor must return to his/her home country and begin the whole Family Visit Visa application process from scratch. 

Can you extend a Multiple Entry Family Visit Visa?

No! For either the Single of Multiple Family Visit Visas , the visitor can only stay a total of 3 months after which they have to leave the kingdom.

However, multiple visit visa allows visitors to reenter Saudi Arabia using the same visa for up to 3 times, but not exceeding 1 year.

Do You Need Health Insurance For A Family Visit Visa?

Health Insurance is required for a Single and Multiple Entry Family Visit Visas. For the second , it can be extended. The cost of the visa insurance depends on age, sex and medical background of the applicant. Currently, the prices are between 30 SR and 100 SR.

There are a limited number of insurance companies authorized by the Ministry of the Interior to sell health insurance for the purposes of a Family Visit Visa .

What does a Family Visit Visa health insurance cover?

It is travel insurance that only covers treatment for emergency cases. You can use it in the case of emergencies, traffic accidents, repatriation after death, dental, dialysis, problems of pregnancy and injuries through accidents, etc. However, the costs of childbirth must be met by the family visit visa holder. 

Costs are covered for expenses up to a maximum of 100,00 SR. Policy limits are set in the contracts for cases of hospitalization, room, doctor and nursing services, and life support limited to 600 SR per day. Medication is NOT included in the policy. Conditions are given in each individual the insurance policy.

• Original passport valid for no less than six (6) months, with at least two (2) successive empty visa pages.
• To fill your online application and make a visa payment, please log on to  https://visa.mofa.gov.sa .  ( Guideline for Enjaz )  Health insurance must be purchased from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Options for local health insurance providers will appear upon processing your Enjaz form.

Unlike before, iqama holders of all professions, including laborers and house drivers, can now apply for a family visit visa in Saudi Arabia. To apply, you will need a valid Iqama with a minimum of 3 months validity, applicant passport information, and active Nafath account.

Applying for a Family Visit Visa in Saudi Arabia

To apply for a family visit visa in Saudi Arabia, follow these steps:

• Visit MOFA Portal: Go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) portal at https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/Home/Index .
• Select Service: Choose “Services for Citizens and Residents” from the home screen.
• Choose Resident Option: Select the “Resident” option and then click the “Apply” button under the “Family Visit Visa Application for Residents” tab.
• Log in: Log in with your Nafath account .

Fill Out the Application Form

To fill out the online visa application form for a family visit visa in Saudi Arabia, follow these steps:

• Address: Should match the city where you submit the visa application, the Chamber of Commerce.
• Visit Objective: “ زيارة أفراد الأسرة ” ( Family Visit )
• Saudi Visa Number: If applicable, as written on your work visa stamped on your passport at the time of entering Saudi Arabia. If you were born in KSA, leave the field blank.
• Name as per passport (in English only)
• Birth Place
• Occupation (in Arabic)
• Mobile Number
• Relationship (select “Others” if applying for someone else, such as a brother or sister)
• Passport Number
• Passport Type: Normal
• Passport Issue Date
• Passport Expiry Date
• Passport Issue Location (the country of the passport holder)
• Single-entry visit visa (valid for 90 days with 2 possible 90-day extensions, for a total of 270 days)
• Multiple-entry visit visa (valid for 90 days, with a possible 30-day extension through a Tawasul request)
• Add Additional Applicants: If applying for more than one family member, click the “Add” button again to enter their details.
• Agreement Approval: Check the “Agreement Approval” box and click the “Save” button.

Once you have finished filling out the form, the MOFA website will give you a reference number . Keep this number as you will use it later to check the status of your visa. Also, remember to print out the form for further processing.

Submission and Approval Process

After filling out the application, you will need to have your employer sign and stamp it.

• If you are a private employee , you will then submit the application to the chamber of commerce in the same city as the address you provided in the application.
• If you are a government employee , you will submit the application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• For domestic workers including house drivers , the employer can approve the visa through the MOFA website itself. For this follow the options Service for Citizens and Residents > Citizen > Ratify individuals applications.

Once your visa has been approved, you will need to submit it to the Saudi Embassy or Consulate in your home country for processing.

Although there are not many requirements that one should have to follow, there are three major requirements that you have to meet before applying for the Family Visit Visa in Saudi Arabia. These Requirements are:

• Valid Iqama:  Your Iqama should be valid, and if you are not sure about the Iqama Expiry date, we got you covered in this post.  
• Your Profession on Iqama should be acceptable. We have compiled a list of all eligible professions, so head over to that list and see if your domain is there or not. If not, then you won’t be allowed to bring the family on Visit Visa.
• Chamber Fee:  You have to pay 35 Riyal Chamber Fee.

How to Apply for it in Saudi Arabia:

The Procedure is Simple. 

• Head over to the Ministry of the foreign affairs website. https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/
• Fill in the required details.
• Apply and take a printout of the form that you will get after submission of the application
• Remember the application number for future references.
• Get the Print attested by the Chamber of commerce. You can certify it online. Just ask your sponsor for assistance.
• After that, it may take 24 hours. In some cases, up to 3 to 7 business days for a visa to be issued. Just keep patience. 
• Once the visa is approved, take a print out of that visa and send it to your home country for further proceedings.

For Stamping, it is recommended to hire a local agent that will take care of your proceedings. Provide him with following

• Visa Number
• Original passport of all those who are traveling
• Copy of your Iqama
• 4 Photographs in Passport size
• Visa and insurance fee.

Requirements for a Saudi ‘family visit visa’  

Any legal Saudi resident or citizen, an Iqama holder, can apply on behalf of the visitor for the MoFA family visit visa. The Applicant’s Iqama must be valid for at least four months when applying for the visit visa.

The Iqama holder must apply for the MOFA ‘family visit visa,’ and an Iqama holder’s dependents cannot use ‘their own’ Iqamas to apply for the visit visa themselves .

MOFA requires the following documents for the family visit visa:

• Copy of sponsor Iqama holder’s passport.
• Valid International Passport with a maximum of 6 months validity remaining

• For additional Applicants, click the ‘Add’ button and repeat the process, filling in the additional applicants’ data. After filling in all data, click on ‘Agreement Approval’ and select ‘Save.’
• The website will now generate the Applicant’s ‘Order Number’ and will display a ‘Request a Family Visa’ form of the Applicant.
• Scroll through the form to ensure all the information is correct.
• To download and save, Click ‘Print.’ You can also print the application for further processing.

The Saudi legal resident/Iqama holder must print out the online MOFA family visit visa application and take it to the sponsor to stamp and sign the form.

The Saudi Chamber of Commerce will attest the MOFA visa application form if required for Private Company employees. Chamber of commerce attestations are done online by the sponsor or the sponsor company.

Applicants can use an agent or submit the documents personally to their country’s Saudi Embassy or the Saudi Consulate. Depending on where they are, they could get the visa-stamped passport in person or by mail.

Family Visit Visa Application Eligibility

You can only apply for family visit visa for your

– Parents – Children – Husband / Wife – Mother in law / Father in law – Sister in Law – Grand Parents – Brothers / Sisters of Foreign Husband / Wife married to Saudi locals

Family Visit Visa Application requirements – Valid Passport of the Sponsor – Valid Iqamah of the Sponsor – Valid Passport of the Applicants – Nafath Application Activated on Phone – Any Iqama Profession (Including Labor or House Driver)

Visit the MOFA Website

Open your browser, preferably on a computer, and visit https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/Account/Loginindividuals

Change Website Language

Change the website language to English by click on the E Symbol at the top left of the screen

Login Using Nifad (National Sign On) with Absher Account

Click on Login to proceeding to login via your Absher Account

Change Nifad Site Language to English

This step is optional

Enter Iqama ID, Click on Login

Enter your Iqama and Click on Login. You must have Nifad Application Downloaded and Signed in on your Phone with the registered Phone number. Click here to download from Google Playstore or Click Here to Download from Apple Store . Enter the code displayed on your phone to Complete Login Process.

Enter Address, Phone Number, Email. Click Save

Enter your Address, Registered Mobile number and Email ID. Click on Save

Once Data is Saved, Click Close

Click on close to proceed to the Visa Platform Dashboard

Apply for Family Visit Visa

In the Visa Platform Dashboard, Choose Family Visit Visa Application for Residents

Add Applicants for Visit Visa

For the ‘ Visit Objectives ’ cell, you will be required to type in ‘Family Visit’ in  Arabic (طلب تأشيرة زيارة عائلة) For ‘ Entry Visa Number ’ cell, Enter your Visa Number stamped on top of your passport. However, you can also choose to leave it in case of a first-time visit. Under Wanted to Visit , Click on Add to Start Adding Applicants.

Fill Visit Visa Application form

– Fill in all the Personal Information of the applicant, including their Nationality, Arabic Family Name, Arabic Grand Name, Arabic Father Name,  Arabic First Name, Birth Date, Birth Place, Gender, Occupation ( must be typed in Arabic) , Mobile, Email, Religion and Relation. – The applicant’s information provided must match accurately with their passport. – On the same page fill in the applicant’s Passport Information, including Passport Number, Passport Type, Passport Issue Date, Passport Expiry Date, and Passport Issue Place. – Fill in the applicant’s Visa Information, including Coming Place ( your nearest Saudi Embassy city in your country ) and Number of Entries which is the type of family visit visa (Multiple Entry/Single Entry) you want to apply for. The single-entry visit visa  is issued for a period of 30 days only with 8 possible extensions of 30 days each i.e. 270 days. The multiple-entry visit visa  is issued for a period of 90 days only which can be extended for 30 days (Grace Period) via Tawasul Request Click on ‘Add’ after filling up all the required information correctly.

Save Visa Application form

The Applicant’s personal information will now be displayed on the screen under the ‘Wanted to Visit’ Table. If you want to apply for a family visit visa for more than one family member, click on the “ Add ” button again to enter the details of the second applicant who wants to come to KSA. Otherwise, Check “ Agreement Approval “ and Click on the “ Save ” button

Print Visa Application in Arabic

Click on طباعة to Print in Arabic. Note the application number that is generated

Visit Visa Application form Official Submission

The next step is to take this VISA application form to your sponsor (Kafeel) to sign and stamp the document. The Chamber of Commerce attestation for private employees is being carried out online. So once you have completed the application, just share it with your Public relationship Officer (PRO) or the Human Resource(HR) Team to attest it. Only once the Application form is attested by Chamber of Commerce, Your Application is officially submitted . You can check your Visit Visa Chamber status by visiting visa.mofa.gov.sa and Entering your application number and Iqama ID number. You should see the screen as shown.

Track Visit Visa Application Status

After the sponsor has signed and stamped the application form, it typically takes a week or less for the approval status to appear in the MOFA site. On the MOFA website, under the ‘Enquiry’ column, you may use the order number and the applicant’s record number (Iqama number) to verify the progress of the MOFA visa application. If the visa application has been granted, the MOFA website will display ‘ Visa Document ’ in place of the ‘ Request a Family Visa ’ application form. Additionally, the applicant’s ‘Order Number’ will now be changed to the applicant’s ‘ Visa Document Number ’.

Family Visit Visa Stamping Procedure and Fees

Visa Stamping must be done within 90 days of MOFA Visa Approval date. Upon successfully obtaining the visa, share the copy of the visa along with the respective passport to travel agents in India who will obtain the stamping.

The charges for stamping vary with Age. Higher the age = More cost. Typically,

So you want to sponsor a KSA family visit visa for your spouse or someone else in your family. What many people don’t take into account is that, not all professions are eligible to sponsor a family visa.

There are only a handful of professions eligible for family visa in Saudi Arabia.

Also, while selecting the profession you need to be careful as some of the professions are reserved only for Saudis, and not expats. You need to ensure that your Iqama is not one of them.

How Can I Check My Profession in Iqama?

The meaning of “Mehna” is job category or profession. Iqama is the best way to know what one’s Mehna is. So in Saudi Arabia, if someone asks for your Mehna, it means they are asking about the profession on your Iqama.

Legally, you can’t work in a profession which is not listed on your Iqama.

You can find your Iqama profession written next to the “Mehna” category as shown below.

What are the Professions Eligible for Family Visa in Saudi Arabia

Here is the complete list of professions allowed to sponsor a Family Visa in KSA. Any profession which is not part of this list is not eligible to apply for a family visa in Saudi Arabia.

If your profession is not one of the listed professions below, you would have to change your Iqama profession.

Change Saudia Arabia Iqama Profession

If your current profession on Saudi Iqama is different from your actual profession, you can change it to apply for a Saudi family visit visa or for any other reason.

Here are the requirements for Iqama profession change.

1. Registration with the Relevant Professional Body

Depending on your profession you would need to be registered with one or more professional bodies in Saudi Arabia.

• The 136 technician professions and engineers need to register with Saudi Council of Engineers .
• All health practitioners need to register with Mumaris Plus .
• All accountants, auditors and people working finance job need to register with SOCPA

It often happens that you would be able to register temporarily with one of teh professional bodies but you won’t be able to renew your registration with the professional body if your educational qualification doesn’t match your current profession.

For example, if you are an accountant, but you did a Bachelors in Arts and a Masters in Political Science, in that case things are gonna get tricky.

You can reach out to them through their helpline or help center email in these cases to get more details.

2. Get Your Degree Attested to Match with Iqama Profession

You need to get the degree attested from the Saudi embassy of the country that issued your degree in the first place. So for example, if you got your degree in the Philippines, that means the Saudi embassy of the Philippines can attest your degree.

3. Be in Saudi Arabia

You can change your profession on Iqama only when you are inside Saudi Arabia.

4. Pay the Fees to Change Iqama Profession

The fees to change Iqama profession is 1000 SR. You can make the payment in any of the banks is Saudi Arabia using Internet banking for this.

5. Contact the GRO of the Company

Once you have made the payment, your employer needs to contact the Government Relations Officer of your company to start the process.

Usually the HR of your company would take care of this.

6. Check the Status of Change in Profession

After applying to change your Iqama profession, you can check your profession on

• In Absher Account Log into your Absher account and check the change of your profession, by visiting the “Dashboard” and then checking the left side of the screen to check your details.
• NCB Internent Bank ing If you have a bank account with Al Ahli bank, you can also check your Iqama Mehna using the NCB internet banking services.

7. Get a New Iqama

Visit any Jawazat office to get the new Iqama that should have your new profession. The whole process to change the profession can take 20 or more business days.

You can keep on using the old Iqama until you get the new one.

Changing Iqama Profession: F.A.Q.S

Can you change iqama profession without certificate.

There are certain profession changes that don’t need an attested degree.

1. Changing Non-technical professions

If you are changing your profession from one non-technical profession to another, for example laborer to cleaner, you don’t need attested certificates.

2. Changing from a Technical to Labor Profession

A Saudi resident with Iqama profession as an accountant can be registered with any degree with SOCPA and then transfer it to Labor. The same goes for a computer technician.

Can Domestic Workers Change Saudi Iqama Profession?

If your Iqama profession is a domestic worker such as Housemaid, Driver etc., you can’t change it into a business profession. You can only transfer it to some other domestic profession.

Reasons Your Iqama Profession Change was Denied

In reality, there are many reasons your application for an Iqama profession change might be rejected. Here are the most common ones.

• The Iqama has expired. In this case, you would need to renew the iqama as soon as possible.
• The Iqama profession is reserved for Saudis.
• Your company is in Red Nitaqat category.
• Your membership with SOCPA, SCE or Mumaris has expired.
• You need to be registered with two professional bodies in Saudi Arabia, but you are registered with only one. For example, if you are a computer programmer registered with SOCPA, but not with SCE, in that case you would need to get a temporary membership of SCE first to change the Iqama profession.  Let’s say you want to change your profession to an Accountant, then SOCPA membership is required

Hey! I would like to know that mu husband works at Saudi under manager category. He has completed an international diploma and its not a degree. So when he applies for visa he has to submit his educational documents to the embassy for the verification. Dear Sir, I would like to bring my family from india. So I have approached with istiqdam office regarding family visa. My Igama profession is food provider but my profession is Civil Engineer (DESIGN ENGINEER) in my office record. Becasuse of IGAMA profession the istiqdam office is denied to issue visa. For this purpose I have conveyed this message to HR Department.But this issue is prolonging for the past five months.I am a Master Degree holder and government employee. Hello, Deb, i need a prompt response from you, in changing my profession, My visa issued on PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR, now i want to bring my family on IQAMA, but this profession not in the list. The issue is that when i sent my papers for attestation , they refuse my graduation degree, which i did privately from Karachi university, & it is not acceptable.

Hi Adnan, Have you tried getting your MBA degree attested from the Saudi embassy/consulate in the USA where you did it? They should be able to attest it. The graduation degree can be attested in Pakistan. I don’t understand why it could not happen.

What professions do not need a degree? I work in Marketing, and I do not have any formal qualifications or a degree.

The company that I will be working for is an Advertising/Marketing company. I am based in London and I assume I have to do a work visa from here? Hi Shoaib, I believe this is a problem that a lot of people face even after having a degree in the field they are working for. If you can get a job through some kind of connection where you bring your experience from London. I don’t think it would be that hard if you can find the right channels and you really want to be there. Then you can sponsor your family easily. Because if you go with a low-level title, it would take time to make these changes and then you would be fighting through the bureaucracy.

But if your company is for sure sponsoring and helping you with the family visas, then worth taking a shot maybe.

Please advice me, say I bring my family on resident visa based on my existing iqama profession and after that I change my profession when my family would be already in KSA. In this case, do I need to make change / issue new iqama for my resident family member as well.? Note: Both my existing and prospective professions are eligible for resident family visa.

Dear Deb, My profession in iqama is Stock controller and i have bachelors degree attested by embassy . Is this profession is allowed to get family visa. Kindly advise. This profession is not in the list above.

This is Santanu and an IT professional. Currently in Riyadh since 14th Oct, however my IQAMA is not processed yet as SCE still showing verification is in progress on my MCA degree. Also last week they asked for my bachelor degree details which is in pure Bsc (pure science), nothing to do with MCA or my technical role currently playing.

Could you please update whether Bsc will be considered on top of MCA as my BSC degree certificate is not legalized yet or not been asked before. Also any impact you see on getting IQAMA if you have any knowledge.

Hello sir I have 2 years diploma in Orthopaedic Cast Technology. And attested by Saudi embassy in my home country, on getting here, I was asked to do mumaris but my profession is not listed on mumaris, I applied for qualification of new study buy rejected stating that no relationship between qualification and specialty applied for. And I’m yet to get my iqama, please sir what do you suggest.

With over 13 percent of the population in Saudi Arabia being Indians, Indians are bound to have family members living in the country. To visit your family living in the country, you will need a Family Visit Visa Saudi Arabia.

For people other than those from the GCC countries, and from a few other visa-exempt nations, everyone requires a permit to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, if you are visiting a first-degree family member, you can apply for a Saudi Family Visit Visa . Valid for a maximum of 90 days, or as per approval by the Ministry of External Affairs in Saudi. This permit allows you to visit the country for the purpose of meeting family, and thereby can even take part in tourism activities. The visa comes in the form of a vignette in your passport. 

The process of applying for the family visit permit is quite different from other countries. The process although available online, for Indians, the mode is offline. Not just that, the Saudi embassy does not accept applications submitted directly. As a result, you will have to contact a travel agency to do it for you. Now before applying, ensure that you check the eligibility criteria for the visa. Once this is done, you may proceed to make the application as follows - 

• The first step involves collecting all the necessary documents required. 
• Once you have them, you can visit the MOFA Saudi website, and download the application form. 
• Proceed to fill in the form. You can either type it and take a print, or print it and write it by hand. You should also keep in mind to affix your photographs, and sign wherever necessary.
• Pay the visa fees online to the travel agency. You cannot make direct payments to the embassy. 
• With the application form, attach the documents and send them to the Saudi Embassy via the travel agent.

Please ensure that you fill in the correct details and that you submit the original documents. Any wrong information or forged documents can lead to a visa rejection . A denied permit is considered as a black mark in your travel history.

To be able to apply for the visit permit, you will have to meet the following criteria - 

• You must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure. 
• The family member you are visiting must be of the first degree such as children, parents, siblings, or also, spouse, in-laws, etc. You cannot apply for a family visit permit if they are your uncles, aunts, etc. 
• The person inviting you must hold a valid family visit visa invitation letter approved by the MOFA in Saudi Arabia. 
• The person inviting you must hold a valid Iqama (residence permit) 
• Your sole purpose of the visit must be to visit your family. 

When you receive your visit permit, keep in mind the following key points to ensure a hassle-free journey - 

• Make a note of the vis expiry date. You will not be able to stay in the country beyond this period. If you do stay, it is considered a criminal offence, and you will be fined and deported.
• You cannot engage in work activities while you are on a visit permit.
• You must strictly abide by the rules and regulations of Saudi while you are in the country. You must also respect their culture and traditions. 

The list of documents as per the Saudi family visit visa requirements , that are necessary for the application are mentioned as follows - 

• An original passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel. Any old passports need to be submitted as well
• 2 photographs as per regulations.
• Family Visit Visa Invitation letter approval from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KSA
• Copy of Iqama of the Sponsor
• Passport copy of the sponsor 
• Travel insurance issued by the Saudi embassy as per your application
• Proof of relationship with the relative inviting you.

• 2 identical passport size photos
• Recently taken
• Coloured, with a white background
• Dimensions: 35mm X 45mm
• Face should cover 80% of the photo
• Facial expression - neutral
• Head in a central location
• Eyeglasses are not permitted
• Headwear - permitted in case of religious reasons

Due to the lower volume of applications, the family visit permit is generally issued in about 4-5 working days. However, depending on a few factors such as the time taken to get the invitation approved, a higher volume of applications, season, etc, this may take longer to be approved. 

The total fees depend on several factors such as the number of entries, service charges by the travel agency, etc. Since the fees can change without prior notice, it is necessary to confirm the amount before you make the application. 

Once you have submitted your visa application, you will receive it back via your travel agent within the stipulated processing time. In the meanwhile, you can check your Saudi Family Visit Visa status by contacting the agency, or by emailing the embassy directly with your application number.

Can i renew my family visit visa in saudi.

You cannot renew it, but you can definitely extend your visa easily. Unlike a lot of the other nations, the Saudi government accepts a visa extension request. In most cases, you can get an extension up to the total duration of your current permit. If the visa is of 90 days, you can get up to another 90 days. However, keep in mind that you will have to apply for it at least a week before your current visa expires and that you can only stay in the country for a maximum of 180 days as a visitor.

Can I Get a Family Visit Visa Without Documents Such as a Birth Certificate of the Child, Marriage Certificate, etc?

No, you cannot apply for it. A vital part of the documents required for the family visit permit is proof of the relationship. A birth certificate or the marriage certificate can be used to prove this. Without these, there is no evidence that the person you are visiting is your relative.

Can I Work in Saudi Arabia if I am On a Family Visitor Visa?

No, you definitely cannot. While you are on a visitor permit, you are strictly prohibited from working or engaging in work-related activities. After Expiring My Saudi Arabia Family Visit Visa, How Long Can I Stay?

You cannot stay any longer after your visa is expired. You are expected to leave the country on or before the date of expiry. Staying back after the period is considered as an offence and you may face penal charges. However, you are free to apply for an extension if you want to stay in the country.

What is the Medical Test for Saudi Arabia Family Visit Visa?

Since it is a short term permit, there is no requirement of a mandatory medical test. However, for the long-stay permit such as the family visa, you require a medical check-up to be done. Either way, it is suggested that you get a health checkup done before travelling to any country for the sake of your own safety. 

Can I Convert My Saudi Arabia Family Visa into a Work Permit?

No, the short term visas cannot be converted into another type. Once your visa expires, you will have to leave the country. However, if you wish to get a work permit, you can apply for jobs in the KSA and find a sponsor. Then, once you return back to your home country after the visit permit expires, you can apply for a new work permit.

Can a visit visa holder perform Hajj?

Visit visa holders in Saudi Arabia often ask if they can perform Hajj. Unfortunately, the answer is not a simple “yes” or “no”.

Generally, people on a family visit visa are not allowed to perform Hajj. For example, a father, mother, or children who are visit visa holders cannot perform Hajj through local hajj registration in Saudi Arabia.

However, we have seen cases before COVID-19 when Hajj permits were issued to wives on a visit visa on an exceptional basis . In other words, it was not allowed for parents and children but for spouses.

We have explained the process of taking a Hajj permit on a visit visa which was valid before COVID-19 but keep in mind that a lot has changed since then. Therefore, you can try your luck if you want.

Getting a Hajj Tasreeh on a Visit Visa

There are 3 requirements to initiate this process;

• The Husband is an Iqama holder.
• He is inside Saudi Arabia.
• The wife is a visit visa holder.

Permission from the Jawazat

Before you book for the Hajj, you need to visit the Jawazat and inform them about the person who wants to get a Hajj permit on a visit visa. You will have to convince the officer to allow you to perform Hajj together.

For example, the wife is in India and the husband works here. How in the god’s name she can perform hajj without a mahram. He cannot come on a Hajj visa because he is already a Saudi resident. This option was created specifically to handle such situations.

It is important to mention here that if you are not able to convince the Jawazat officer to get permission, you cannot move further. You can take the GRO of your company to facilitate you if you are not good at speaking Arabic.

Book for Hajj

If the Jawazat officer is convinced, they will make an exception in their system with the border number under which the visit visa holder entered Saudi Arabia.

• Once they created an exception in their system, you can book hajj like any other resident.
• Instead of entering the Iqama number, you will use the border number and visa issue date while booking.
• You will have to pay for the Hajj just like any other normal package.

Get the Hajj permit

After making the payment of the fee, once the confirmation is received from the Ministry of Hajj, you will have to visit Jawazat again.

Although residents can print their Hajj tasreeh through the Abshir system, visit visa holders will have to get their hajj permit from the Jawazat.
