Huasteca Potosina

Join Experience Mex-ECO Tours to see one of Mexico’s most beautiful natural landscapes, the Huasteca Potosina!

We fly in and out of San Luis Potosí, the capital city of the state of the same name, giving you chance to explore it’s beautiful historic centre and learn about it’s history as a major gold and silver mining hub. From here we travel by bus into the Huasteca, starting with visits to the beautiful waterfalls and pools of Puente de Díos and Tamasopo.

The next part of this tour takes us deeper into the Huasteca to visit the famous surrealist gardens of Edward James, an eccentric English poet and artist. This unique creation, known as Las Pozas, consists of towering concrete sculptures in the rainforest, surrounded by pools and waterfalls. From Las Pozas we head to the Cave of Swallows (Sótano de las Golondrinas). This 370 meter deep, open air pit cave is home to thousands of birds, mostly white-collared swifts and green parakeets (despite the name, there are few swallows here), which emerge at great speed every morning, and return each evening, circling the skies before splitting into smaller groups and diving in.

The final section of this trip takes us to the spectacular waterfalls of Tamul by boat, including a dip in a nearby cool water cave. Atfer another relaxing evening, our final day of activities includes a trip to Adventureland Huasteca Micos for some more fantastic views, and some extreme activities for those brave enough, such as SKYBIKING and ziplining!

Difficult * – this tour is more demanding physically than many of our other tours. There is a lot of walking and steps involved to get to one of the waterfalls (Puente de Díos) and to the cave of swallows (similar physical activity to hike at monarch butterflies, but all steps rather than smooth path, and no horses available).

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Aquatic shoes/sandals, swimsuit, towel, sun screen, hat, comfortable walking shoes.
