Singapore Airlines first class is the crème de la crème of luxury airline experiences. From the moment you arrive at the airport until you’re safely at your destination, every need is meticulously attended to by dedicated Singapore Airlines staff; it's a truly first-class experience every step of the way.

But luxury comes at a high cost, either in miles or cash.

Learn about Singapore Airlines first class and its Suites, along with the food, drink and lounges that come with the highest class of service on one of the world’s most extravagant airlines.

What to expect flying first class with Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines first-class experience is so lavish that it is divided into Suites and first class, depending on the aircraft. Here are the most important details you need to know:

Baggage policy. For flights to and from the U.S., Suites and first-class ticket holders can check two pieces of luggage up to about 70.5 pounds. For flights that don’t go through the U.S., you can bring up to about 110 pounds. Flyers with elite status may qualify for an additional bag or two or additional weight, depending on the flight and status level.

Boarding. Suites and first-class flyers have their own boarding lanes. On the two-story A380, these flyers may possibly have their own jet bridge.

Suites or seats. First class on Boeing 777 aircraft includes an extra-wide lie-flat seat with plenty of storage. On the massive Airbus A380, first-class flyers may be able to snag their own suite, which includes a private room for one or two, a luxury recliner and a bed, plus a door for added privacy.

Lounges. Singapore operates its own KrisFlyer Lounge and KrisFlyer Gold Lounge in limited airports and may work with partners in many others. As a premium flyer, you can check in at the dedicated first-class reception area, where a porter takes your baggage. After an escort through a private immigration line, you’ll be whisked to the private lounge that lives up to its first-class branding. The private room lounges aren't your typical busy Priority Pass lounges — they’re a step above.

Food and meals. Singapore Airlines first-class food rivals anything you’ll eat on the ground. You can preselect a meal online with chef-prepared options through its "Book the Cook" service; here, you can choose from a wide selection of world dishes and special meals. Come thirsty, too — you’ll have access to the airline’s expert-selected wine list, high-end Champagne and just about anything else you would like to drink.

How to book a first class ticket with Singapore Airlines

To book a first-class flight on Singapore Airlines, the likely easiest option for most people is to book online, but you can also book by phone. The website makes it easy to search by fare class and date. Note that Singapore doesn’t fly to many U.S. cities, and some routes don’t fly daily.

singapore airlines website first class

If you pay cash, flying first class is a five-figure endeavor, with fees typically ranging from around $10,000 to $30,000. The most affordable way to fly on Singapore Airlines is using miles or points.

If you need to bulk up your points stash, take advantage of the fact that Singapore Airlines is part of the Star Alliance. That means that you can earn KrisFlyer miles by flying partners like Air Canada , Avianca, Lufthansa and United .

Ways to get good value

Book with points.

If you regularly fly on Singapore Airlines or otherwise build up a big balance, potentially through transfers from partner credit cards , you can book awards directly with Singapore. These range in cost from 52,500 KrisFlyer Miles to 295,000 miles one-way, depending on your destination. NerdWallet values Singapore KrisFlyer miles at 1.5 cents each.

Partner awards from other airlines

Again, if you have miles with any Star Alliance partner, you can book an award flight that includes travel on Singapore Airlines. For example, if you fly on United regularly, you can use those miles to book a Singapore Airlines trip if the route allows.

Arrive early to enjoy the lounge

So you probably can’t check in the day before and use the lounge as your hotel, but you can show up early to enjoy the full-service amenities at one of the Singapore Airlines lounges , which include Wi-Fi, TV and food and drink.

Note: Many lounges are currently closed due to the pandemic.

Consider 'fifth freedom' routes

"Fifth freedom" is an airline industry term for international flights that don’t originate or end in the airline’s home country. For long-distance flights on Singapore Airlines, current fifth freedom routes include San Francisco-Hong Kong, Los Angeles-Tokyo, Houston-Manchester and New York-Frankfurt.

Splurge for a suite

If you have the miles or the dollars to get yourself in a Singapore Airlines suite, it could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have your own private bedroom in the air. It’s not quite as good as your own private airplane, but it’s about as close as you can get while flying commercial.

If you fly first class on Singapore Airlines

When you can cozy up in your own bed, you may be tempted to catch some sleep for the entire time you’re on the plane. But hopefully, you stay up long enough to enjoy your private TV and entertainment system, the fine food and dining, and the exceptional service provided in first class on Singapore Airlines.

These flights will rightfully earn their place as fond vacation memories that last a lifetime, rather than just another run-of-the-mill transportation experience.

How to book Singapore Airlines first-class Suites with points and miles

Ben Smithson

Singapore Airlines' first-class product has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best luxury experiences in the sky. Many in the points and miles world save up to book this bucket list experience, complete with Dom Perignon (and Krug) Champagne, caviar and some of the best i

nflight service out there.

Before we dive into how you can book your next first-class adventure on Singapore Airlines , let's look at what you can expect from the different aircraft types operated by the carrier.

The first-class cabins

first class travel singapore airlines

Currently, Singapore operates aircraft with two different first-class layouts — the Boeing 777-300 and the Airbus A380. On its 777-300s, the first-class cabin is arranged in a 1-2-1 layout at the front. Each seat has plenty of room and turns into a lie-flat bed. The seats are similar to the business-class seats on this aircraft in layout, though they have more personal space and the first-class service sets them apart.

You'll find Singapore Airlines' famous Suites class on the Airbus A380s. The Suites are located at the front of the upper deck, and each one has a bed separate from the seat, providing an incredible amount of personal space you will not find on most commercial aircraft.

Two Suites can be combined into a double bed, making it ideal for couples. This is about as good as first class gets.

first class travel singapore airlines

The A380 Suites are significantly better than the 777 first-class seats, so it's worth going out of your way to book the A380 if possible.

Regardless of aircraft, you can count on some great Champagne, a great meal — don't forget to "Book the Cook" — and plenty of hot towels to help you stay refreshed. If you are departing from Singapore, you will also have access to Singapore Airlines' exclusive and recently renovated Private Room lounge .

If you see a route operated by one of Singapore's new Airbus A350s or 787s, keep in mind that it doesn't have a first-class cabin on this aircraft, but it does have a fantastic business class .

How to book Singapore Airlines first class with miles

first class travel singapore airlines

Unlike most airlines, Singapore Airlines will only let you book its first-class (and business-class) award tickets on long-haul routes through its own KrisFlyer program . So while United Airlines and Air Canada are both Star Alliance partners of Singapore Airlines, you won't be able to use MileagePlus or Aeroplan miles to book these premium-cabin awards.

Suites-class options

Singapore Airlines is not operating A380 services to or from any destinations in the United States after switching the service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to a 777 service in May.

Schedules and aircraft type are subject to change, but at the time of publication, over the northern summer period, Singapore will operate the A380 to the following destinations:

First-class options

While the 777 first-class product isn't quite as impressive as the A380 product, the good news is that Singapore Airlines flies the 777 product to several U.S. destinations. At the time of publication, over the northern summer period, Singapore will operate the 777 with first class to the following destinations:

You can also try Singapore Airlines first class on the airline's fifth-freedom routes . Here is the one-way pricing for Saver and Advantage awards:

  • Between New York and Frankfurt: 97,000 (Saver)/143,500 (Advantage) miles.
  • Between Los Angeles and Tokyo: 120,000 (Saver)/187,000 (Advantage) miles.

KrisFlyer does not impose fuel surcharges on flights on its own metal, so fees, taxes and surcharges on first-class and Suites flights are reasonable.

first class travel singapore airlines

Saver availability is strictly limited, but you can pay more miles for an Advantage ticket. You might also consider waitlisting for a Saver award .

And if you only want to get a taste of Singapore Airlines first class on a short flight, you can book flights between Singapore and Jakarta for 40,000 Avianca LifeMiles on some dates.

Off the beaten points first reported you can use LifeMiles to book this route. But despite searching, we haven't seen the ability to redeem LifeMiles for other Singapore Airlines first-class or suites-class routes.

How to earn Singapore KrisFlyer miles

first class travel singapore airlines

While Singapore Airlines doesn't offer a cobranded credit card in the U.S., the airline partners with several major rewards programs with transferable currencies, including:

  • American Express Membership Rewards : 1:1 transfer ratio; transfers usually take less than 24 hours .
  • Capital One : 1:1 transfer ratio; transfers usually occur instantly .
  • Citi ThankYou Rewards : 1:1 transfer ratio; transfers usually take less than 24 hours .
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards : 1:1 transfer ratio; transfers usually occur within one day , but some readers have reported transfer times of up to seven days.
  • Marriott Bonvoy : 3:1 transfer ratio, plus a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 points transferred; transfers usually take less than 48 hours .

Earning rewards with one or more of these programs and transferring them to Singapore Airlines is one of the easiest ways to earn KrisFlyer miles. The following cards all currently offer strong welcome bonuses that you could easily convert to KrisFlyer miles:

  • American Express® Gold Card : Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first six months of card membership. Terms apply.
  • The Platinum Card® from American Express : Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $8,000 on purchases within the first six months of card membership. Check to see if you're targeted for a 125,000-point welcome offer through CardMatch (offer subject to change at any time). Terms apply.
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express : Earn 120,000 bonus points after spending $15,000 on eligible purchases on the card in the first three months of card membership.
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card : Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.
  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card : Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred Card : Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
  • Citi Premier® Card: Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening (see rates and fees ).
  • Ink Business Preferred Credit Card : Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

In the case of transferable currencies that don't instantly transfer to KrisFlyer, you'll want to call and put a hold on your award ticket before initiating a transfer . That way, you won't find yourself with stranded Singapore KrisFlyer miles because of a lack of award space.

Bottom line

At first glance, it might seem like only being able to book Singapore first-class awards with the KrisFlyer program would be a problem. However, when you consider that Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy points can all be transferred to your Singapore KrisFlyer account, it seems a lot more doable.

As with many premium-cabin awards, you'll want to start looking for award space as soon as you know your travel dates. First-class award space on Singapore Airlines is not always easy to find, so starting your search as early as 355 days before your desired departure date is advisable. Also, consider waitlisting or searching at the last minute.

With a little planning, you'll be able to earn the required miles and find the necessary award space to try one of the best first-class products in the world.

A first-timer’s guide to Singapore Airlines Suites & First Class

Aaron Wong

Just booked your first-ever Singapore Airlines First Class or Suites experience? Here's how to make the most of it.

If you’ve just booked your first-ever Singapore Airlines Suites or First Class flight, congratulations!

You’re no doubt excited about what lies in store, and you should be. While we can have endless debates as to whether it’s really the best in the world, SIA’s top cabin is still going to be a fantastic experience, period.

first class travel singapore airlines

The question before us then, is: how can I get the most out of my experience?

In this post, I’ll explain what lies in store from the time the booking confirmation arrives in your inbox, to the time you step off the plane, your life hopefully forever changed. I’ve already completed a separate post for Business Class, which you can find below.

A first-timer’s guide to Singapore Airlines Business Class

And if you’re wondering whether you should cash out your hard-earned miles for Business Class, or continue saving for First Class or Suites, here’s a detailed post that walks you through the key differences in the experience.

Singapore Airlines First Class vs Business Class: Which should you redeem?

Singapore Airlines Suites & First Class seats

First of all, what seat can you expect onboard?

Singapore Airlines has one type of Suite, and one type of First Class seat.

You may have seen other photos of Suites circulating out there. This is the first-generation Suites product, which was retired with the older A380s during the pandemic. Outside a museum, you’ll never encounter this again.

first class travel singapore airlines

So the equation is simple: if you’re on an A380-800, you’re in Suites. If you’re in a B777-300ER, you’re in First Class. The entitlements, service and catering are exactly the same; the only difference is the hard product.

After you’ve booked

Pick your seats.

While there’s no such thing as a “bad” First Class seat, it still doesn’t hurt to choose them as soon as you can- especially if you’re flying in Suites!

Singapore Airlines has six Suites on its A380-800, arranged in a 1-1 configuration with ‘A’ seats on the port side, and ‘F’ seats on the starboard.

first class travel singapore airlines

In terms of size, not all Suites are made equal. Row 1 is the largest, followed by Row 2 then Row 3. Keep in mind you’re still talking about 35 ft 2 in Row 3, more than any regular First Class seat out there (for comparison, Etihad’s Apartments and Emirates’ new First Class suites measure in at around 40 ft 2  ).

Seats 3A and 3F are known as the “solo” Suites, while 1A/2A and 1F/2F are the “couple” Suites, since they can be converted into one large room.

first class travel singapore airlines

If you’re travelling as a couple, you’ll want to select 1A/2A or 1F/2F as soon as your tickets are issued. If you see that these seats are already blocked, don’t lose hope. There’s a chance they’ve been taken by individual travellers, and in that case, the cabin crew may  gently ask them if they’d consider moving so you and your companion can have the double suite.

Once again, I want to emphasise the  may  aspect. It’s certainly not an entitlement, and if the passenger refuses, don’t be too disheartened. You’ll still have a great time.

Singapore Airlines has four First Class seats on its B777-300ER, arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration with ‘A’ seats on the port side, ‘F’ seats on the starboard, and ‘C’ and ‘D’ in the middle.

first class travel singapore airlines

Therefore, it’s not rocket science. If you’re solo, pick A or F. If you’re a couple, pick C or D.

I need to warn you though, even if you pick C and D, you won’t be in for a very social experience. That’s because of the way the First Class seat is built. It has large privacy ears that wraparound the seatback, which means you’ll need to lean forward to hold hands, share food,  swap bodily fluids, or do whatever it is that happy couples do.

Browse the inflight menu

first class travel singapore airlines

Ahead of the flight, whet your appetite by checking out the meals served onboard. This can be done via the Manage Booking function, or you can visit this page within eight days of departure.

In terms of what you should expect:

Breakfast service is a three-course service with:

  • Sliced fruits
  • Starter (cornflakes, Bircher muesli or yoghurt)
  • Main course

Lunch , dinner and supper service is a seven-course service with:

  • Satay (not offered for supper)
  • Caviar (not offered on flights to/from Delhi, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mumbai, Shanghai)

Sleeper service is only for flights departing after 10 p.m to Asia or Australia. This is a mash up of supper and breakfast items, to allow passengers to eat after boarding then sleep till landing, or sleep after boarding then eat before landing (or just eat all the way through- in First Class, no one questions your choices!).

Here’s a sample sleeper service menu.

first class travel singapore airlines

As an added bonus, sleeper service has featured a separate caviar course ever since 1 September 2023.

Singapore Airlines now offers caviar on supper and Sleeper Service flights

While course-by-course dining should be expected on medium and long-haul flights, meals may be served on a single tray on shorter flights like Jakarta (albeit in two movements- the appetiser and dessert first, then the main course replaces the appetiser).

first class travel singapore airlines

First Class passengers can browse the Inflight Menu in advance of their flight, and pre-select their main course within 15 days of departure. This guarantees you’ll get your first-choice option (though First Class is catered in a way that you’d have to be very unlucky not to get your first choice option even without pre-selecting).

You can browse the options by going to Manage Booking, then scrolling down to Meals > Inflight Menu.

first class travel singapore airlines

Book the Cook

first class travel singapore airlines

If none of the main courses on the inflight menu appeal to you, there’s always the option of selecting something from the Book the Cook menu.  This is available on flights out of Singapore and selected destinations.

If you’re departing from Singapore and selected medium/long-haul destinations, you can pre-order your Book the Cook meal all the way up till  24 hours before departure time (except for flights departing from Auckland and Newark, where the cut-off is 48 hours).

Do note that certain menu items are only available on flights over 3.5/4 hours.

Some of the more popular Book the Cook items include lobster thermidor, duck confit, and roasted lamb rack, but don’t feel like you  must  pick the classics. I’ll have you know that the hawker food items are very well executed too!

For more real-world photos of Book the Cook items, refer to this post.

Not a light traveller? No worries. When you fly First Class, luggage allowance should be the least of your concerns.

If you’re flying to the USA or Canada, the piece concept is used. You’ll be able to check up to 2 pieces of luggage, each of which can be a maximum of 32kg (versus 23kg for Economy).

If you’re flying to all other destinations, the weight concept is used. You’ll be able to check as many pieces of luggage as you wish, provided the total weight is 50kg (versus 25-30kg for Economy).

Now take this with a pinch of salt, but my experiences flying First Class tell me that the luggage allowance is effectively a serving suggestion. Provided you’re not shipping a ridiculous amount of stuff, the ground crew may close one eye when you’re overweight.

All First Class luggage receives priority tags, which theoretically ensures they’re the first to come off the belt. Your real-life experiences may vary, but I’ve consistently seen mine pop out very quickly.

Order a complimentary cake

first class travel singapore airlines

If you happen to be marking a special occasion like a birthday, honeymoon or anniversary, you can request for a complimentary cake to be served onboard.

This cannot be done online, so you’ll need to call up customer service. Don’t overthink it, just say something like “hi we will be celebrating a birthday/anniversary/honeymoon/release from prison onboard, could you please help request a cake”.

Once onboard, the cabin crew should usually confirm with you that the cake has been loaded (and if they don’t, remind them ASAP- sometimes screw ups happen, but they can try to rectify it if given enough time), and ask when you would like for it to be served.

The standard setup is to serve the cake along with two glasses of champagne, a pair of bears, some lights and dry ice.

At the airport

Check-in (singapore).

Singapore Airlines flights currently depart from Terminals 2 and 3 at Changi Airport, and the experience depends on which terminal you’re departing from.

The only First Class flights that depart from Terminal 2 are to Jakarta, and the check-in facility here is relatively low key.

first class travel singapore airlines

All other First Class flights depart from Terminal 3, where passengers can make use of Singapore Airlines’ exclusive First Class check-in area at Terminal 3, located just before Door 1 on the departure level.

first class travel singapore airlines

On arrival at the facility’s private driveway, porters will assist with your luggage and you’ll be ushered inside to check-in.

first class travel singapore airlines

The reception area has plenty of seating —not that you’ll be staying here very long — and your bags will be checked and boarding passes issued. There’s no refreshments, but you’re just minutes away from the lounge anyway.

Upon completing the check-in formalities, you’ll exit the First Class reception and head straight to a dedicated immigration counter for First Class passengers, where I’ve never seen a queue.

first class travel singapore airlines

Check-in (Overseas)

first class travel singapore airlines

When departing from overseas, First Class passengers can make use of priority check-in counters and immigration, where available.

This includes Gold Track access at airports where the service is available.

Lounge (Singapore)

While almost all First Class flights depart from Terminal 3 anyway, even if you happen to be departing from Terminal 2 (i.e. Jakarta), I absolutely insist you visit the lounges in Terminal 3.

Why? Because Terminal 3 has  The Private Room.

Now, I’m sure there are those who will say The Private Room pales in comparison to what other airlines offer their First Class passengers, like Air France in Paris, or Lufthansa in Frankfurt, or Qatar Airways in Doha. And maybe they have a point, but you know what? If this is your first time, I have no doubt you’re going to enjoy yourself.

The 78-seater Private Room is the exclusive domain of Singapore Airlines First Class passengers. First Class passengers on other Star Alliance carriers and Solitaire PPS Club members are barred from entry.

first class travel singapore airlines

Come hungry, because the highlight of The Private Room is the restaurant, which serves made-to-order items like Wagyu satay, lobster thermidor, or Kurobuta pork don, together with fine wines and champagne. Here’s a sampling of some of the items.

first class travel singapore airlines

If you don’t see anything you like on the menu, don’t be shy to ask the chef if they can whip up something special. They’ll try their best!

As for wines, Singapore Airlines serves the following in The Private Room.

I’ve been told the red and whites are nothing special, but the champagne is very much so. Enjoy a glass (or four) of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2012, one of three champagnes that will be available onboard.

first class travel singapore airlines

Freshen up before your flight with a shower in one of three oversized suites, each with a GROHE Sensia Arena bidet toilet, rainshower, and Como Shambhala amenities. Pro-tip: ask for shower suite #3, which is almost double the size of the other two (in fact, it’s the largest shower anywhere in Changi!)

first class travel singapore airlines

There’s also private rooms (yes, private rooms inside The Private Room) with single beds and work desks, perfect for anyone who needs a rest or a quiet space to work. In theory you’re limited to a two-hour slot, but the staff can arrange a longer stay if it’s a quiet period.

first class travel singapore airlines

In addition to The Private Room, Singapore Airlines First Class passengers can also visit the SilverKris First Class Lounge (yes, I know the nomenclature is confusing), which offers additional amenities like a tended bar and productivity pods.

I personally feel the First Class Lounge is better for getting work done, since the chairs in The Private Room go for style over ergonomics. There’s also an additional four nap rooms here, in case the ones in The Private Room are all full.

Detailed reviews of The Private Room and First Class Lounge experiences can be found below.

Oh, and if you must see what the Terminal 2 First Class lounge looks like…

Lounge (Overseas)

first class travel singapore airlines

Singapore Airlines has SilverKris Lounges at 10 overseas airports, but only four of these have a separate First Class section.

Standard features in the First Class section include a sit-down dining area with table service and a small a la carte menu, as well as upgraded champagne options compared to the Business Class section.

The following airports have First Class service, but do not have a SilverKris First Class Lounge.

I’ll level with you. Most of these are forgettable. Some of these (e.g. Auckland) aren’t even dedicated First Class lounges, so you can expect a level of crowding and F&B more on a Business Class level.

If you asked me to choose, my two favourites would probably be the ANA Suite Lounges in Tokyo Haneda and Narita. Both offer (or at least they did prior to COVID, I’m not sure if it’s been restored yet) a “Dining h” facility, which serves an a la carte menu that’s prepared to exacting Japanese standards.

If it’s any consolation, you’ll be able to visit The Private Room at Changi Airport on arrival- read till the end for details!

If you intend to arrive early to enjoy the lounge, check the opening hours , and be aware that ground staff may not allow you to check-in earlier than three hours before departure, even if there’s an earlier SQ flight leaving that day.

Onboard the flight

Suites and First Class passengers are always the first group to board, after those requiring special assistance.

Alternatively, you can hang out longer in the lounge and board at your leisure, but don’t leave it too late or you’ll miss some of the pre-flight pageantry. The crew will come over and introduce themselves personally (and you’ll always be addressed by name, of course!), they’ll offer to take your shoes and replace them with slippers, they’ll ask if they can hang your jacket and offer you a sleeper suit to change into. It’s a fawning level of service, and par the course for the real estate you occupy.

And they’ll of course pour you some pre-departure beverages, which means it’s time for…

Do a champagne tasting

first class travel singapore airlines

Even if you’ve never flown Singapore Airlines First Class before, you must be aware of the famous “Krug or Dom?” question, which I swear the cabin crew are trained to say in such a professionally casual manner so it comes off as the most subtle flex ever.

Unfortunately, this question will need to be reworded now that Dom Perignon has become an Emirates exclusive, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

But cheer up, because there’s still plenty of good bubbles in store. Regardless of route, First Class passengers will have a choice of three champagnes.

Two of these are fixtures:

  • 2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
  • Krug Grande Cuvee NV

The third is a rotating choice, offered under SIA’s “A Celebration of Champagne” programme till March 2024.

If you’re reading this in December 2023, there’s even more good news because the critically-acclaimed Krug 2004 is making an appearance for the latter half of the month. Krug Rose will also be served during the Christmas period.

Brand snobs may mourn the loss of Dom, but make no mistake: all of these are top quality pours. Assuming you’re not a teetotaler, you owe it to yourself to try all three. Don’t be shy; chances are they’re going to open one of each anyway, and any open bottles at the end of the flight have to be discarded.

Get your amenities kit

Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class passengers receive Lalique amenities kits on flights above five hours. However, there’s no harm asking even if your flight falls below that threshold, because there just might be some leftovers onboard.

Lalique isn’t really known for skincare products — they’re a crystal designer first and foremost — but that doesn’t mean they make bad stuff.

If you’re flying out of Singapore, you’ll receive either a male or female amenities kit.

first class travel singapore airlines

The his kit contains:

  • Lalique Encre Noire Eau De Toilette (30ml)

The unisex kit contains:

Get your sleeper suit

Sleeper suits are distributed on flights above five hours. These are unisex and Lalique-branded, coming in four different sizes ranging from XS to L.

The suits are made of comfortable material that retains heat well- a little too well in my opinion. If you’re afraid of overheating, maybe request a baggier size.

first class travel singapore airlines

You can keep your suit after the flight as a souvenir.

(A380 only) Take a few bathroom selfies

Now that you’ve got a sleeper suit and several glasses of pre-departure champagne in you, it’s time to explore the bathroom.

If you’re on the B777-300ER, these are completely forgettable. They’re basically the same as the ones you’ll find in Business or Economy, just with fancier amenities.

B777-300ER First Class lavatory

But if you’re on the A380, your life is about to change (again).

For maximum effect, visit the port side (left, facing the front of the plane) first, which is already impressive in and of itself. Instead of the usual cramped lavatory with barely enough room to turn around, you’ll find plenty of countertop room for your personal items, a waterfall tap with one of the best flow rates I’ve seen on an airplane, plus a settee for wearing shoes without hopping on one foot.

first class travel singapore airlines

Now head across the aisle to the starboard bathroom and take a deep breath. Not because of any unpleasantness (you’ll soon realise the cabin crew in First have an almost OCD approach towards restroom cleanliness, nipping inside between passengers to tidy and deodorise), but because of this:

first class travel singapore airlines

Yes, it’s a lavatory so big you could do jumping jacks inside (in fact, why not?). It’s almost as if the designers ran out of ideas as to what they could fit here, since the main feature is a dressing table (a shower would have been nice, but you’ll need to fly Emirates’ A380 for that!)

I think this is as good a spot for a (tasteful) bathroom selfie as any.

Ask for the bears

first class travel singapore airlines

Singapore Airlines stocks teddy bears on its flights for its younger passengers, but they’re available on request to First Class passengers of any age.

These can be quite the collectible item. I personally have more than two dozen at home, sporting different coloured T-shirts or aircraft. The latest collection features a pair of bears in chef’s whites, though that may have changed by the time you read this post.

Oh, and the bear does have a name: “Beary”. Still a better name than Budget Terminal , though…

Dine when you want

Suites and First Class passengers do not need to stick to the traditional meal windows. You eat whenever you wish, though keep in mind it can take up to 20 minutes to warm up the items, so try and give the crew some heads up.

Since I’m likely to be stuffed from The Private Room, I usually request to take my meal later instead of straight after take-off.

Peruse the snack menu

In addition to the main menu, passengers can enjoy a selection of snacks throughout the flight. I need to moderate your expectations, however, because snacks are a notable weak point of the Singapore Airlines premium cabin experience.

first class travel singapore airlines

If you’re flying to Asia or Australia, don’t expect anything more than potato chips, cookies, and instant noodles (albeit plated on fine china). If you’re flying to Europe or the USA, a few more options are available such as sandwiches and soups, but it’s still not much to get excited about compared to other airlines.

first class travel singapore airlines

Frankly speaking, these aren’t what you should expect from a First Class experience!

first class travel singapore airlines

For what it’s worth, SIA has recently added some hawker items to its snack menu, including a carrot cake and fried Hokkien mee (though I believe the latter is only available on non-stop flights to the USA, which do not have a First Class cabin). I haven’t tried these, but it’s good to see they’re trying to introduce more local flair to a part of the experience they’ve historically overlooked.

Singapore Airlines adds hawker items to snack menu

If you’re really hungry, I reckon you’d be better off asking the cabin crew if there’s any leftovers from the previous meal service. They’ll be more than happy to plate it for you if so, and that’ll probably be better than most snack options.

(A380 only) Try the double bed

first class travel singapore airlines

Some people will say it’s a waste of miles to sleep on your first-ever First Class experience, and I suppose I can see where they’re coming from. But if you were lucky enough to snag Suite 1A/2A or 1F/2F, you should at least take a brief nap.

On cue, the cabin crew will push down the walls and open up a double bed, complete with luxuriously smooth sheets and fluffy pillows. And if you really don’t want to sleep, well you can always catch a movie with your companion (each suite has two headphone ports, so you can both hear the same audio).

first class travel singapore airlines

At the risk of bursting your bubble, I need to point out that despite the name, it’s more like two single beds pushed together. There is a hard, immovable divider between the two beds, which you’ll still feel even when covered with blankets.

first class travel singapore airlines

In that sense, it’s more like two single beds pushed together than a real double bed. But hey, in the cold light of day, you’re still enjoying an oversized bed in an oversized suite in an oversized aircraft. That’s an amazing feat, in and of itself, and would have been unthinkable at the turn of the century.

After the flight

Priority immigration.

Certain SIA destinations offer expedited immigration processing for arriving First Class passengers:

  • Bangkok (BKK)
  • Brunei (BWN)
  • Delhi (DEL)
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
  • Istanbul (IST)
  • Jakarta (CGK)
  • Mumbai (BOM)
  • Paris (CDG)

Of the list above, Singapore Airlines only offers First Class to Delhi, Jakarta, Mumbai and Paris. Be sure to retain your boarding pass so you can use the priority lane on arrival.

Visit the lounge in Singapore

first class travel singapore airlines

Here’s a little-known but important fact: Suites and First Class passengers arriving in Singapore on SIA flights may use The Private Room and First Class SilverKris Lounge on arrival, regardless of where they originated from.

This means an opportunity to grab a very nice meal, freshen up with a shower, or even take a nap, if you didn’t sleep well on the plane.

There’s really no hard and fast rule on how long you can spend here, although if you have checked bags they’ll eventually be removed from the carousel and brought to lost-and-found. It’s not that big a deal, and you can always reclaim them later.

While everyone’s virgin Business Class experience will be special, Singapore Airlines First Class is a whole different ball game. Whether it’s the rarefied air of The Private Room, the liberal pours of vintage champagne, the fawning service, or the assortment of take-home souvenirs (especially for those on two-legged flights where you get two sets of PJs and amenities kits), it’s something you’ll remember for a long time to come.

If nothing else, it might keep the other half from complaining every time you admonish them to use the right card!

Thoughly enjoyed our suites experience and everything you mention was as we experienced. First class check in in Singapore was amazing. Only problem was our taxi driver had never been there before and initially missed the turn off! even though I’d told him where to go!

I wish SQ up their game with the amenity kits. It would be really lovely if they gave out a kit made of premium materials, not necessarily leather. PVC just looks cheap and the design makes many of us don’t even want them. Maybe include a little memento or collectable like KLM. The Lalique crystal fish and candles are questionable. The fish does not seem to be well crafted for some reason. 😛 When suites (both old and new) were first launched, the boarding experience was really amazing when you fly INTO Singapore. At LHR, and in the past CDG, …  Read more »

Not everyone flying F craves the attention; i personally prefer to be incognito but to each his own. Please dun stop the entire boarding process and drawing attention to me. lol Against popular beliefs, I somewhat agree saver awards should not be offered at all, but these are already unicorn for long haul flights, including for TPPS members.

Absolutely. This guide is for a first time suites flyer so I would imagine they will expect the bells and whistles. Not sure if there is a need to be incognito mode though. The crew also matters. All are definitely professional but some of way too serious. It will be a nice gesture for SQ to provide local transfer for revenue tickets. Singapore is so small and I would imagine that the logistics will not be too difficult. Wishful thinking but imagine if they provide a massage like TG(before the pandemic).

John

Is there actually even Suites on SIA that can be redeemed by miles anymore?

yes, easily on short haul flights as of today. Have a look up. If you search further out, even saver awards are available.

There’s only First Class though, not Suites Class. I don’t think they even offer Suites on short haul flights.

Hello it’s me

There’s HKG Suites, plenty of savers and advantage

Shanghai has plenty if you look far enough

Thanks for the write up! I’ve a morning SQ flight in first class coming up. Would I be allowed to check in the evening before so that I’m able to enjoy the lounge? Thanks!

Nightmare_Angel

“If you intend to arrive early to enjoy the lounge, check the  opening hours , and be aware that ground staff may not allow you to check-in earlier than three hours before departure, even if there’s an earlier SQ flight leaving that day.”

I thought check-in can be done as long as it’s 24 hours before departure? Thanks.

Sarah

Hi, thanks for the insightful article. I’m flying SQ First out of SG. I’ve family members on the same flight as me, but they are travelling in Economy. Are they able to join in to check in via the First Class reception area at T3? Many thanks

Alex

I have the same question. Any one who has tried before and knows the answer? Background is that I have sufficient miles for 1 ticket and have to put up 2 family members on Economy class.

JW19

Tips, if you are booked on an early morning flight like SQ 892 to HK, do yourself a favour and book a night at Aerotel in T1. Checkin the night before and enjoy 2 meals at the TPR. Must do for first timers.

Kel

Sorry but how is this done ? How can we access TPR when we are staying in Aerotel ? I thought we cant check in till like 3 hours before ?

Brian

Just called to request a birthday cake for my upcoming flight in Suites from NRT-SIN. Birthday on the 11th and flying same month on the 20th, was told that for Suites/First and Business Class passengers, a birthday cake request is only granted if your flight is plus minus three days of your actual birth date.

Aaron Wong

thanks for the dp. looks like the honor system is dead now. have removed that line.

Singapore Airlines’ First-class Suites Might Be the Best Way to Fly — What to Know

Here’s what to expect if you’ve booked a 50-square-foot suite on the world’s best airline.

first class travel singapore airlines

Courtesy of Singapore Airlines

Named the best international airline in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for 27 consecutive years, Singapore Airlines is known for its world-class in-flight services and amenities. While even passengers in economy are granted thoughtful touches, like a hot towel service and a well-stocked amenity kit (which includes toothpaste, a toothbrush, socks, and eye shades), nothing is as luxurious as the first-class suites . Exclusively available on the airline’s A380 aircraft, Travel + Leisure previously reported that the suites are like “ hotel rooms in the sky ” — and they’re like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Currently, the A380 services six destinations worldwide: Frankfurt Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, London Heathrow, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, Sydney Airport, and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York .

However, as of May 15, 2023, the A380 will no longer fly its current U.S. route from JFK to Singapore Changi Airport via Frankfurt. The Boeing 777-300ER will take its place, and while this is not-so-great news for U.S. travelers who want to experience the suites, the 777 aircraft still has a first-class cabin that provides plenty of privacy and comfort — passengers just won’t have the option of creating a double bed.

Here are all the perks that come with a first-class suite on Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines Airport Experience

The exact airport perks depend on where you are in the world. Passengers flying out of Singapore Changi Airport can utilize the dedicated first-class check-in area if they book a suite or a first-class ticket (or if they’re a Solitaire PPS Club member ). Here, a passenger relations officer helps with check-in, and a porter handles your baggage. Once you’ve finished the check-in process, you’ll be escorted through a private immigration line and into the SilverKris Lounge or to the boarding gate.

Even if you’re not flying out of Changi Airport, those with suite access can find SilverKris Lounges and partner lounges in various airports across the globe — including Hong Kong International, London Heathrow, and Sydney Airport. Although each lounge has slightly different services, most are outfitted with food, light snacks, Wi-Fi, rest areas and quiet rooms, bartender and barista services, and restrooms and showers.

The Singapore Airlines Suite

With only six suites on board the aircraft — laid out in three rows of two — each one was designed to provide the most luxurious flying experience imaginable. While some first-class tickets grant you access to a seat that turns into a bed, Singapore Airlines takes it up a notch. If you’ve specifically booked the Airbus A380 private suite, you’ll not only have a swiveling, reclining leather armchair, but a separate bed furnished with pillows, blankets, and linens (from French luxury label Lalique ) as well. The sliding doors and electronic window blinds ensure your privacy, but each suite was also designed to accommodate passengers traveling in pairs. If you want to merge suites, simply lower the privacy divider to combine your 50-square-foot cabins — combined, the two beds will be about as big as a double bed.

Other aspects of the suites are just as thoughtful. Each passenger has an en-suite wardrobe to place cabin luggage (no need to worry about overhead bins), and the suite’s features — including lighting and in-flight entertainment — can be controlled from a handheld tablet. The 32-inch HD touchscreen monitor comes with an enhanced KrisWorld entertainment system and Bang & Olufsen noise-canceling headphones, a far cry from anything you’ve experienced when flying in economy. Those working from the air will appreciate the complimentary Wi-Fi and the console that turns into an oversized pop-out table next to the armchair.

In-flight Amenities

Overnight flights are made significantly more relaxing with the addition of pajamas, slippers, and an amenity kit from Lalique. While Singapore Airlines may not provide showers to its premier passengers (à la Emirates ), there are two spacious lavatories with a sit-down vanity counter, wash basin, and toilet.

Singapore Airlines also works with California resort Golden Door to provide “enhanced wellness” to passengers aboard its flights. Along with health-conscious dining (more on that below), the program includes exercise and stretching programs for better sleep and overall comfort on long international flights.

Singapore Airlines Suite Food and Drink Menus

Champagne —  Krug Grande Cuvee and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne , of course — and Wedgwood bone china tableware are par for the course when you’re flying in a suite. Passengers dine on their in-flight meals, preordered via the “ 'Book the Cook ” service, from the comfort of a personal table. As paper menus were phased out due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meals can be ordered up to 24 hours before the flight. Created by Singapore Airline’s International Culinary Panel and changed based on ingredient availability and seasonality, the menus can also be viewed by scanning a QR code in flight or previewed online up to eight days before takeoff. Options vary by flight, but you’ll find a range of delicacies, including grilled salmon, Singapore chicken rice, and lobster thermidor. Additionally, the airline makes sure to provide options for all special dietary requirements.

Prices for the first-class suite range depending on destination and travel date, but can cost upwards of $20,000.

Singapore Airlines First Class Review 2024

Review of Singapore Airlines First Class

first class travel singapore airlines

Singapore Airlines, also known as SIA, is the multi-award-winning flag carrier of Singapore and is regarded as one of the finest airlines in the world. The carrier is renowned for its quality products, style and inflight service. The jewel in the crown is the airline´s First Class, which comes in two distinctly different versions. Traditional First Class is offered across the carrier´s fleet of 20 Boeing 777-300ERs, while the 12-strong fleet of A380s feature an elevated First Class product branded as Suites . No matter which version you fly - the experience is one of the finest in the skies.

The global geography of Singapore means that it has become a hub for intercontinental travel, with flights connecting North America, Europe, much of Asia and Oceania. The country has invested heavily in developing Changi Airport as a hub, and Singapore Airlines First Class passengers enjoy access to some of the most exclusive areas within the airport.

Members of the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer frequent flyer program accrue “PPS value” when flying Business Class or First Class. The value is counted towards The PPS Club, a unique “club within the club” that has been created to provide extra care and services for premium customers. Top flyers may qualify for Solitaire PPS membership, which provides even more privileges, personal attention and recognition.

SIA is a Star Alliance member, allowing its loyalty program members to earn or redeem miles with its partner airlines. Customers seamlessly connect between member airlines on the same itinerary, which includes Lufthansa, SWISS, United Airlines, Air New Zealand, TAP Air Portugal and EVA Air.

Airport experience

Changi Airport is home to Singapore Airlines and is, in itself, a travel destination with iconic features, including; the world’s tallest indoor waterfall – the 40-metre HSBC Rain Vortex; a 12-metre indoor slide – also the tallest slide in an airport; indoor forest hikes; ten themed indoor and outdoor gardens; a cinema; rooftop swimming pool and over 500 retail and dining outlets. No wonder Changi is regarded as one of the world’s finest airports for its unrivalled passenger experiences.

Terminal 3 is the main terminal for Singapore Airlines. First Class and Suites passengers enjoy a dedicated First Class Check-in Reception away from the crowds. Located as a separate wing to the left of the main Departure Hall, the First Class Check-in Reception offers porter service, sit-down check-in and a private entrance to the dedicated SIA First Class immigration facility. While passengers are not escorted to the lounge, access is very easy as it is located just across from the private immigration.

The SilverKris First Class Lounge and The Private Room are situated on level 3 of Terminal 3’s departure concourse, signposted by a magnificent showpiece glass installation featuring Singapore Airlines’ iconic batik motif and styled with 105 hand-crafted glass pieces. Passengers flying Singapore Airlines First Class or Suites have exclusive access to The Private Room , leaving the First Class Lounge primarily for other Star Alliance First Class passengers or Solitaire PPS members not flying First Class.

The Singapore Airlines lounges at Changi T3 have undergone a recent redesign and expansion. Though the lounges constitute a significant upgrade from their previous incarnation, there is sadly a lack of natural light and no spa facilities or runway views.

The SilverKris First Class lounge exudes an impressive, modern, stylish feel with state-of-the-art amenities and timeless elegance. It is open around the clock and has a capacity of 134 guests. Guests first reach the striking open bar with 119 Lalique crystal Aquatic Ginger flowers – inspired by SAI’s batik emblem – a theme that runs throughout the lounge experience. Customers can grab a barista-made coffee in the mornings or a signature cocktail in the evenings. Champagne, wines and hot and cold beverages are available in the self-serve areas. There is a good choice of international hot and cold buffet-style cuisine and live cooking stations where customers can enjoy a selection of local favourites, including chee cheong fun, nasi lemak, bak chor mee, and breakfast egg options. There are four private day rooms – available on a first-come-first-served basis with a 2-hour limit, providing a high level of privacy and featuring a Tempur Zero Gravity bed or reclining seat and a small work desk with USB and charging points. Six separate marble-lined shower suites also have lavatories and luxury Lalique amenities. There is a children’s playroom and six comfortable productivity pods with marble-patterned table tops and complimentary Wi-Fi, USB sockets and charging points throughout the lounges.

The Private Room is the most exclusive lounge, opens between 5.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. daily, and is only available to Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class passengers. With a capacity of 78 passengers, there is a bright and airy à la carte restaurant with a good menu, including lamb shank, sauteed lobster with pasta, and dim sum. There are four private nap rooms and four shower suites. Seating is arranged in comfortable pods – from solo to pods with an armchair and sofa, and more open yet still personal seating areas for larger groups.

Unlike some other leading airlines, Singapore Airlines does not escort its First Class or Suites passengers from the lounge to the departure gate. Officially it does not provide buggy services, but can be provided on request.

For Singapore Airlines flights that leave from Changi Airport Terminal 2, First Class porter service is available from Door 1 of the Departure Hall. A dedicated SilverKris First Class lounge is also available in Terminal 2, but it has not been renovated and does not meet the high standards of the Terminal 3 lounges. The terminals are well connected, you can check in and use the facilities in Terminal 3 even if your flight is departing from terminal 2.

Singapore Airlines also offers its own SilverKris lounges in 10 other airports around the world, although dedicated First Class lounges are only available in London (temporarily closed for refurbishment), Sydney, Melbourne and Hong Kong. At airports where the airline does not operate its own lounges, First Class passengers enjoy access to other Star Alliance partner lounges or contracted third party lounges.

Airline review Airport experience - Singapore Airlines - 11

Cabin & Seat

As Singapore Airlines offers two very different First Class cabins on the Boeing 777-300ERs vs the Airbus A380s, it is recommended to check the aircraft type you are flying on. While the seats are different on the two aircraft types, all other elements of the First Class experience are the same.

The Boeing 777-300ER fleet offers an intimate First Class cabin with only four seats in a single row 1-2-1 configuration. The custom designed seats were developed by BMW Designworks, the design studio of car manufacturer BMW Group. Launched back in 2013, the seats remain some of the best First Class seats found on any airline. Finished in soft hand-stitched Poltrona Frau leather, these seats feature a large privacy screen for the centre seats, mood lighting and a 24-inch in-flight entertainment screen. The seats are wide and comfortable with a matching cushion and ottoman, beneath which is plenty of storage room, and alongside which is a small enclosed cupboard. Though this is not a concealed suite, the wrap-around design of the shell provides sufficient privacy from other customers. In addition, there is a large mirror with a door, power and HDMI sockets, USB ports and an iPod socket. With a seat pitch of 82 inches (208 centimetres) and width of 35 inches (89 centimetres), the seat transforms into a flat bed that is arguably more comfortable than the ones found on the A380s. The bed has a mattress pad and luxurious Lalique bedding.

The First Class Suites on the A380s offer a more unique experience - consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. The current Suites are the second iteration of the concept, which was originally launched on the very first A380 in 2007. Back then, Suites was described as “a class beyond First”, and they came with a surcharge. Today, First Class fares are the same irrespective of aircraft type, but the Suites name has been retained to clearly show the difference. The original version came with 12 Suites located on the lower level of the A380s, but in 2017 Singapore Airlines unveiled a completely reimagined version. Suites moved to the front of the upper deck and the number was reduced to just six Suites, allowing for unprecedented size and luxury.

There are three suites on each side of the centre aisle, four of which turn into two expansive ‘Double Suites’. Located on the forward section of the upper deck, adjoining Suites are 1A & 2A and 1F & 2F. Passengers travelling with babies must select Suite 1F, which has wall hooks for a bassinet. Suites 1A and 1F are slightly larger than the other four suites.

Unlike the traditional First Class lie-flat seat, the sizeable Suites contain a foldaway bed – lowered from the side wall – and a swivelling and reclining Poltrona Frau leather armchair with a retractable footrest. The bed is 76 inches long (193 centimetres) and 27 inches wide (68 centimetres) with a firm mattress and finished with a luxurious Lalique duvet and fine linens. The chair is 21 inches (53 centimetres) wide and reclines to 135 degrees.

The Suite is equipped with a 32-inch HD IFE screen, and there are several storage spaces beside the window and a wardrobe for hanging clothes and storing small bags. There are two charging sockets, an HDMI socket, two USB charging ports, and unlimited Wi-Fi.

Privacy is achieved with a beautifully designed full-height sliding door. With two Suites combined, the beds join as an impressive ‘double Suite’.

The flight search on BusinessClass.com includes images, videos and seat maps for most airlines and aircraft. Search results also include details such as seat pitch, width and recline. This way, you can see the seat and cabin configuration of the flight in which you are interested before making your choice.

Airline review Cabin & Seat - Singapore Airlines - 10

Singapore Airlines is renowned for its in-flight catering and exceptional quality service. Menus have been crafted from a panel of seven world-renowned, award-winning chefs – including three Michelin-starred chefs – to form SIA’s International Culinary Panel.

‘Book the Cook’ is a concept offered in Suites, First Class and Business Class on flights over 1.5 hours flight time. Customers can order main courses from a varied and extensive selection of meals depending on the departure location up to 24 hours before their flight. The undisputed signature dish of Singapore Airlines Book the Cook is the Lobster Thermidor.

Multi-course Digital in-flight menus can be found on the SIA website and ordered through the Singapore Airlines Digital Menu System by entering flight details up to 8 days before departure. Special meals, including baby, child and infant, religious, vegetarian and dietary meals, are also ordered this way. In 2020, Singapore Airlines announced the end of printed paper menus as a sustainability initiative, but they returned to First Class and Business Class in 2022 following passenger feedback.

All dishes use the freshest seasonal produce and arrive exquisitely presented on Lalique, Wedgwood or Narumi tableware, hand delivered by the flight attendants and set upon crisp white linens.

On many flights, lunch or dinner is preluded by drinks and satay service, a signature of the Singapore Airlines dining experience. The charcoal grilled-chicken and lamb skewers are presented with peanut sauce, cucumber and onion. Vegetarians will enjoy the Impossible Meat satay – specially created for the vegetarian meal. Adding to the authenticity of the service, the satay skewers are charcoal grilled in Singapore and loaded onboard the aircraft along with the peanut sauce even for flights returning from outstations back to Singapore.

Lunch and dinner on most First Class flights are a seven-course dining extravaganza. After the satay, passengers are offered a choice of appetisers, often including Kaluga Osetra malossol caviar with the traditional garnishes as an option. This is followed by a choice of two different soups and a salad dish with a choice of dressings. The main course is then served. Following the main event, First Class passengers have a choice of desserts, usually one hot and one cold option. While many airlines serve cheese before the dessert, Singapore Airlines follows the British tradition of offering cheese as the last course. The First Class cabin crew are however always happy to change the order if you prefer the cheese before dessert.

In the unlikely event of anyone feeling hungry mid-flight, Singapore Airlines offers an extensive Delectables menu of hearthy soup and noodle dishes, sandwiches and snacks such as potato chips, gourmet flavoured popcorn, cookies and sweets.

While breakfast is usually the least interesting meal during a flight, Singapore Airlines makes even this as interesting as possible. A selection of fresh fruit is served as a first dish, followed by cornflakes or Bircher Muesli with milk or yoghurt. There are four options for the main course, plus the entire Book the Cook menu which can be pre-ordered. First Class cabin crew are specially trained to prepare fresh eggs onboard, with a choice between baked, scrambled or boiled. Warm bread rolls and pastries are also offered.

The eminent panel of international chefs have created authentic menus specific to destinations. Flights between Singapore and China can receive Míng Jiā Zhēn Zhuàn-inspired meals. Traditional Kyo-Kaiseki service is provided on Japanese flights, and passengers flying to India can dine on Shahi Thali.

The airline has forged a collaboration with renowned chef and television personality Monica Galetti to craft a gourmet dining experience for its Suite and First Class passengers departing from the UK.

In her role as guest chef, Ms. Galetti, acclaimed for her appearances on television shows including Masterchef: The Professionals, will curate seasonal menus in partnership with the airline. Drawing from her South Pacific heritage, the collection will showcase several signature dishes from her London restaurant, Mere.

Airline review Cuisine - Singapore Airlines - 6

Over a thousand wines are tested yearly before a panel of three leading wine experts approve the final selection. Air Sommeliers ensure that the finest wines reach your glass to compliment your meal.

For many years, Singapore Airlines First Class passengers had the choice of “Dom or Krug?”, but this has now changed as the airline no longer serves Dom Pérignon. Today, the airline offers a choice of three premium Champagnes - 2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Krug Grande Cuvée and Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru V P Extra Brut, Champagne. Egly-Ouriet may not be as famous as the two other brands, but is considered by many connoisseurs to represent the absolute pinnacle of grower champagne quality.

Typically, passengers can choose between two or three white and reds and a Port offering, while a wide selection of cocktails and spirits are also on offer. Who could refuse a Singapore Sling? An insider tip is to request the SilverKris Sling. Concocted from orange juice, pineapple juice, gin, Grand Mariner and topped with Champagne, it serves as a more refreshing alternative. The SilverKris Sling is not always listed, but the cabin crew is happy to create it even if ordered off-menu.

Non-alcoholic beverages include a featured mix, delicious mocktails, and a wide selection of mineral water, freshly squeezed fruit juices, carbonated soft drinks, milk, and chocolate beverages.

There is an excellent range of gourmet coffee by illy that includes 12 different choices, from single-origin Arabica to classic roasts and speciality coffees such as cappucino or Café Royal. Singapore Airlines offer an impressive selection of 16 different teas from around the globe, including nine from the TWG Tea Selection. All tea and coffee can be ordered hot or with ice.

The signature hot beverage in Singapore Airlines First Class is Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. Considered one of the finest and most expensive coffees in the world, Jamaican Blue Mountain is exclusively exported by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica.

The flight search on BusinessClass.com includes information on which Champagne is served in First Class and Business Class on many airlines. We do our best to keep track of any changes but feel free to let us know if there is something we missed.

Airline review Beverages - Singapore Airlines - 1

Singapore Airlines’ service is legendary, and First Class and Suites passengers will enjoy the crème de la crème of airline experiences. The Singapore Girl is consistently featured in the airline's marketing and is one of the most recognisable brand ambassadors anywhere in the world.

The level of attention and care is impeccable, and a warm and genuinely friendly welcome awaits onboard. Customers are greeted by name and escorted to their seat or Suite, where cabin crew introduce themselves and provide helpful information about the First Class product and flight details. Shortly after, a glass of Champagne, juice or mineral water is provided and will never run dry. Care and attentiveness are exceptional, even on the longest intercontinental flights.

The cabin crew present flawlessly in iconic and immediately recognisable uniforms. The female crew wear iconic sarong kebaya uniforms designed by Pierre Balmain in 1968. The colour of the uniforms represents their seniority. Blue for Flight Stewardess, green for Leading Stewardess, red signifies Chief Stewardess, and the Inflight Manager wears a purple uniform. The male crew wear elegant suits with colour-coded ties that represent their seniority in the same way.

Entertainment

The long-haul fleet of Boeing 777-300ER First Class seats features a 24-inch HD-enabled in-flight entertainment screen fixed to the end panel above the ottoman. Due to the distance from the seat, a hand controller is used to access the menu. Bang & Olufsen noise-cancelling headphones are of excellent quality.

The A380s have a large 32-inch touch-sensitive IFE screen that can be swivelled and adjusted at the touch of a button to suit viewing positions from the swivel seat or the bed. A smaller detachable hand-held screen controls everything, from dimming lights, calling cabin crew or simply watching your favourite movie in bed. The A380 also provides customers with superb Bang & Olufsen noise-cancelling headsets.

In-flight Wi-Fi is complimentary to First Class and Suites passengers on all flights. KrisWorld in-flight entertainment is carefully considered with over 1,400 entertainment options, including on-demand movies, TV shows, Box sets, music, web-based gaming, kids TV, and much more. With Hollywood blockbusters and the latest releases worldwide, there is something for everyone to enjoy, relax and unwind.

The KrisWorld digital content portal allows passengers to access the inflight and amenities menu, KrisWorld magazines and more from a single webpage. Discover the movie or TV menu and create a personal playlist before stepping aboard. Those requiring retail therapy can even browse through a catalogue of curated best-sellers, purchase, and receive the goods directly to the next flight or delivered straight to the doorstep, anywhere in the world.

Amenities & Facilities

The luxury amenity kits from Lalique come as unisex, female and male sets, packaged in an attractive re-usable leather zip pouch. The contents include lip balm, body lotion, and face mist. The unisex kit has a charming Lalique scented candle and scented soap. In contrast, the female kit has additional face moisturiser, hand cream and a generous-sized L’Amour Lalique Eau de Parfum. The men’s kit also contains aftershave balm and a great-sized 30-ml bottle of Eau de Toilette, all from the Lalique Encre Noire range.

Comfort items include a soft fabric eye mask, in-flight Lalique pyjamas with a drawstring waist and button neck and some of the best airline slippers available. Shaving and dental kits are available directly from the lavatories or upon request.

Singapore Airlines has a signature aroma Stefan Floridian Waters , created in the 1990s and blended from rose, lavender and citrus. The scent is gently transfused in the circulating air and blended into hot towels, passed around several times during the flight.

The A380 has two forward bathrooms on the upper deck. Although they do not have shower facilities, the available space is excellent. Spotlessly clean and modern, further amenities can be found such as combs, cotton pads, razors, toothbrushes and paste and mouthwash, and Lalique Neroli body lotion, face mist and perfumes.

Although the two First Class bathrooms of the B777s are considerably smaller, they are also at the front of the cabin, meticulously cleaned and contain the same amenities as the newer aircraft.

Short & Medium Haul

Singapore Airlines has greatly reduced the number of short- and medium-haul destinations that offer First Class. The only short route left is Singapore-Jakarta, but even if the flight time is just 75 minutes, the First Class experience is exceptional and includes a meal service with a full selection of beverages. Medium-haul routes include Singapore to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Delhi and Mumbai. On these routes, passengers enjoy a full seven course meal service, amenity kits, slippers and pyjamas.

Sustainability

The Singapore Airlines Group, including its subsidiary airline Scoot, is committed to reducing the airline industry’s emissions and has set out to improve fuel efficiency with carbon-neutral growth from 2020 and achieve a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050. This goal is helped by using a young fleet of the most eco-efficient aircraft on the market, combined with improved flight operation procedures that minimise fuel burn. The Asia and Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (ASPIRE) programme is a prime example of this initiative, where select flights from Singapore and within the Oceania region operate daily under the ASPIRE programme to shorten flight times and reduce fuel burn and emissions. Singapore Airlines is heavily invested in developing sustainable fuels and is part of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group.

Waste management is controlled by reducing single-use plastics, paper and food waste by using alternative sustainable materials and making reading material digital – this also helps minimise take-off weight, reducing fuel consumption.

On the ground, SIA office buildings across Singapore generate 18 per cent of the electricity demand through renewable energy by using more than 20,000 rooftop solar panels. Since 2010, SIA has been the exclusive airline partner of a vital conservation project to protect 100,000 hectares of rainforest Harapan Rainforest and its endangered species.

Singapore  Airlines ensures that flying first class isn't just a means of transportation - it's a destination in itself, with footage of a luxury 'suite' sending social media users into a frenzy.

A video shared by a passenger shows a sprawling cabin complete with a double bed, private bathroom, flatscreen TV, reclining leather armchair and complimentary teddy bears - leaving travellers both awe-inspired and wallet-weary.

On paper, Singapore Airlines' first-class 'Suites' cabin on its A380 Airbus is the best in the world for an airliner.

In 2023, Singapore Airlines was named the world's best airline  at the Skytrax World Airline Awards - the ' Oscars of Aviation' - and took the gong for 'World's Best First Class.'

Among its fleet, the Airbus A380 stands as a symbol of extravagance, but to live like royalty means you must spend like royalty - as a 'Suites' seat on this airborne palace can cost up to $30,000 per flight.

Uploading a video to Instagram in April, travel blogger Ale Zakarian - known as @ale.zakarian on the social media app - captured some of the finer details of his luxury cabin while returning from a trip to Thailand.

The content creator, who hails from Argentina, captioning his post with: 'Singapore Airlines First Class, the largest suites in the world! Impressive size of the room!'

As Ale is brought to his 'Suite' by an assigned flight attendant, he records the moment he enters his spacious cabin and is greeted by a view of a double bed fitted with white sheets and two pillows.

Placed on the bed are two complimentary teddy bears, while two reclining leather seats sit on either side, along with a narrow desk attached to the wall.

In the private bathroom, pink LED strip lighting sets the ambience, while a Hollywood vanity mirror hangs above the sink and array of toiletries are placed on a shelf.

A leather stool sits underneath a mini-desk in the bathroom, complete with two extra mirrors, offering the passenger a bright and spacious area to apply make-up or skincare as well as haircare.

Meanwhile, a toilet is nestled in its own space to the back of the bathroom, and sits opposite another brightly lit mirror and a shelf that contains decorative plants.

Walking back into the lounge area of the 'Suite,' Ale captures an impressively large flat screen TV that hangs above the tail of the bed, as well as the delicious hot food and fruit and cheese platters included in his meal.

Over 10,000 comments poured in from humble travellers who expressed their thoughts over the 'indulgent' cabin - with many grappling with the extravagance on display, while others called out the staggering cost of the experience.

One person wrote, 'It would be so incredible to experience that,' while another said, 'I feel exceptionally poor watching it.'

Some social media users poked fun at the sheer size of the cabin, with one person writing, 'Bigger than some people's studio flat in London,' while another Londoner agreed, commenting: 'Better than my flat in London.'

A third individual joked, 'Is it also available with a balcony?' while a fourth person commented, 'I've stayed in hotel rooms smaller than this.'

However, a number of individuals shared their distaste for the extortionate cost of a flight that arrives 'pretty much at the same time' as those at a lesser price.

One person wrote, 'Ryan air gets you there.. all the same sh**,' while another said, 'And we all arrive pretty much at the same time... I'd rather feed a whole village in Cambodia than be this indulgent.'

Meanwhile, another unenthused individual complained of the lack of space economy passengers experience, writing: 'And here we are in economy praying not to get a blood clot in our legs and rich people are stretched out like a star fish.'

In October 2023, Japan Airlines unveiled its new top-tier cabins - with first-class passengers also able to enjoy a double-bed in their 'exclusive' suite in the skies.

Japan Airlines (JAL), which was voted the world's fifth-best airline in 2023's 'Oscars of Aviation', says the A350-1000's interior has been designed 'to immerse customers in the elegance of Japanese aesthetics and envelop them in tranquillity, providing a serene ambience that encapsulates the beauty of Japan'.

It says that the new first class and business class cabins are 'spacious, yet fully-private environments.'

Simple Flying

Flight review: singapore airlines airbus a380 business class from london heathrow to singapore changi.

The 12-hour flight went by quickly thanks to impeccable customer service and a spacious cabin.

  • Check-in at Heathrow was efficient, with minimal wait times, leading to a smooth boarding process.
  • Singapore Airlines' Airbus A380 business class provides a comfortable and spacious experience with thoughtful amenities.
  • The exceptional service and attention to detail, from the lavatories to the in-flight meals, made for a delightful journey.

I booked a Singapore Airlines flight from London via Singapore to Manila for a long-overdue trip to the Philippines. Arriving at Heathrow on the Elizabeth Line, I made my way to Terminal 2 (The Queen's Terminal), which Singapore Airlines shares with its Star Alliance partners.

Check-in and boarding

The check-in area for Singapore Airlines is located in Area A on the left-hand side, as you exit the elevators or parking garage at the departures level. There were quite a few self-check-in kiosks free, and the wait time was minimal for both check-in and bag drop.

Following a dinner at the Plaza Premium Lounge, I traversed the tunnel to the B gates, from which my flight departed. Along the way, I was reminded that Singapore Airlines operated the first Airbus A380 flight to London Heathrow, preceding home carrier British Airways' introduction of the type by six years .

Boarding was organized and smooth, and I made my way down the gangway to the upstairs deck of the superjumbo. Attentive staff checked my boarding pass and walked me down the aisle of the aircraft before passing me off to a colleague who escorted me to my seat and took my jacket to hang up for the duration of the flight.

Once I got situated in my seat at the rear of the upper deck, I looked around the cabin to see if the legend lived up to the hype.

A comfortable and spacious space

The business class cabin on Singapore Airlines' Airbus A380s is arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, with an adjustable privacy divider between the two middle seats. As I was traveling alone, I left the partition up, but was able to snap a photo of it down for reference. When I arrived, a pillow was placed on the seat, and a pair of slippers was on the side table. Additional bedding was stored in the footrest.

The seats featured ample storage space with open and closed compartments and plenty of places to hang clothes or hats. Power was provided in two locations. A universal power plug and a USB-A port were in front of the seat, and a second USB-A port was located on the side table under the headphone port.

Business Class Tickets Under 15,000 Miles: Everything You Need To Know About Singapore Airlines' Spontaneous Escapes

Also on the side table was a lighted mirror that opened to reveal a magnifying mirror, alongside intuitive seat controls and lighting controls. I especially appreciated several nice touches, including the lighting pattern built into the sidewall and a dimmable reading lamp in addition to the standard light above the seat.

The cabin crew came around with a tray of drinks and took pre-orders for after takeoff. I found the sparkling apple exceptional. Before long, we were on our way to Singapore, with an estimated flight time of twelve and a half hours.

Snacks and service

When it was time for dinner, the crew returned with tablecloths and silverware for our tray tables. I have flown in business class cabins that used single-use plastics, so I was impressed to see more pieces of cutlery than can usually be found at a nice restaurant.

Love learning about points and miles? Read more of our loyalty news and guides here .

The first course was a chicken satay canapé. This was followed by a starter of Iberico ham on a bed of salad, served with warmed buttered bread, which I found delicious and beautifully presented.

Before long, the unmistakable smell of scallops wafted through the cabin. One of four main courses on offer. I went for the roasted chicken, 'Burgandy style,’ which I found delightfully charred. It was accompanied by steamed carrots, mashed potatoes, and peas. There were several options for desserts. I chose the cheese platter and was not disappointed.

Following dinner, I settled in to see what was on the in-flight entertainment system.

Screens and sleepy time

The screen on the seat back in front of me was large and vivid. The noise-canceling headphones were effective and came with little ear covers, while the handheld remote felt more like the PlayStation Portable I never had than an airplane entertainment system. There were quite a few hit movies on offer (the majority of the cabin appeared to go for the newest Aquaman film), and I settled in to watch the Glastonbury 2023 special.

Following a fantastic rendition of Born To Die by Lana Del Rey, I decided to test out the lay-flat bed.

Want to see more of our trip reports - click here!

A blanket, seat cover, and second pillow were found in the footrest, set to the right of the inflight entertainment screen. The crew came over to see if I needed any assistance folding the bed down and brought an extra blanket, socks, and an eye mask.

While the footrest's positioning required a bit of a twist to see the screen while lying down, it was nice to have my feet on the footrest all the way through landing after the seat back had been raised.

Fancy touches in the toilet

Another area I was thoroughly impressed with was the lavatories. They were thoughtfully decorated with orchids and featured a large brightly lit mirror and a secondary close-up mirror for getting ready in the morning. Next to the sink was a compartment labeled "Amenities," which contained dental kits, shaving kits, and a clever folding comb/hairbrush.

Two hours before landing, the crew came around again with the lunch service. Given that it was afternoon already at our destination, the move to have lunch instead of breakfast made sense. The flight attendants came around again between the courses with more wine, coffee, and water.

At the one-hour mark until landing, the crew returned with an ample refill of wine before the bar closed.

Exceptional service and attention to detail

As we descended into Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) , the crew brought back my jacket and gave me a stuffed commemorative Disney100 teddy bear, along with one for the friend I was on my way to visit, which I found to be a thoughtful touch. Overall, it was a delightful experience, and the team looked after me incredibly well.

I have dreamed of flying upstairs in a Singapore Airlines A380 since the carrier operated the type's first commercial flight in 2007, and it did not disappoint. The attention to detail was immaculate, from the hot towels to the meal presentation and lighting details. The crew was incredibly professional and attentive. The main flight attendant at my end of the cabin, Natcha, was thoughtful, proactive, and courteous, so I was delighted to hear she had been selected for a well-deserved promotion.

Did you know we also have an aviation YouTube channel here?

This caring attitude was not limited to passengers traveling in premium cabins, either. I found the service on my subsequent flight from Singapore to Manilla in economy class to be equally exceptional. Highlighting the hospitality the carrier is known for providing.

The Complete Guide to Singapore Airlines First Class

Singapore Airlines offers some of the most unique First Class experiences available anywhere in commercial aviation, delineated into two distinct products.

Singapore Airlines First Class is the more modest of the two, akin to First Class products offered by other top airlines around the world. Passengers can expect top-notch service, excellent food and drink, and a very comfortable flight.

Singapore Airlines Suites Class, on the other hand, is arguably the best First Class product that can be booked on points.

In addition to the “standard” Singapore Airlines First Class offerings, which are miles above those of other airlines, the Suites Class experience is exponentially elevated with a massive suite and the most comfortable double bed in the sky.

In this guide, we’ll look at everything that is Singapore Airlines First Class and Suites Class, including routes, availability, how to book using points, and how to make sure you snag a seat in the coveted Singapore Suites.

The Singapore Airlines First Class Experience

Singapore Airlines offers an incredibly unique First Class experience from start to finish.

The airline is renowned worldwide for its consistently excellent ground services and very competitive hard and soft products onboard their aircraft.

Let’s go over the entire experience before delving into more details.

Ground Experience

If you’re flying Singapore Airlines First Class out of Singapore Changi Airport, then your opulent adventure will begin long before you board the plane.

The Private Room by Singapore Airlines is a dedicated lounge for First Class passengers that has recently undergone a massive renovation.

You can expect a refined atmosphere, top-shelf alcohol, and world-class dining from an à la carte menu.

Only Singapore Airlines First Class and Suites Class passengers have access to The Private Room.

If you’re flying Singapore Airlines First Class or Suites Class into Singapore, you can access The Private Room even if you don’t have a connecting flight.

If you’re flying Singapore Airlines First Class or Suites Class out of a country other than Singapore, you’ll have access to SilverKris Lounges, where available, as well as Star Alliance partner lounges.

When flying Singapore Airlines First Class or Suites Class, you can rest assured that you’ll never be left without a lounge.

Seat – Airbus A380 Suites Class

While all Singapore Airlines First Class seats are sure to please, it’s the most recent iteration of Singapore Airlines Suites Class that stands above the regular First Class.

There are many elements to the newly-improved Suites Class product that are as unique as they are spectacular. When compared to other First Class products from competing airlines, Singapore Airlines towers above most, if not all, others.

The airline gained additional notoriety with its most recent version of Suites Class, which was introduced in late 2017. This refresh was a revamp to the original Suites Class that debuted around 10 years prior.

While the original Suites Class was something to behold, the airline has since refreshed all of its Airbus A380s, so you won’t find the older version in operation anymore.

In fact, the updated Suites Class is better measured in square feet rather than in pitch or width. At just over 50 square feet per suite, it’s essentially a mini-hotel room in the sky.

As you ascend the staircase to the upper level, you’ll first notice the sheer size and the vast amount of storage space at your disposal. There really is no other First Class product that compares to the size of this suite, and everything else inside it.

Let’s begin with the seat. The metallic grey swivel chair lets you experience your personalized cabin from any direction, as it can swivel a full 360 degrees.

The chair can’t turn into a lie-flat bed, but that’s certainly not an issue. When it’s time to sleep, there’s a completely separate part of your Suite dedicated to that.

This means you have both a bed and a chair for use during the flight, instead of just the usual chair that turns into a bed with the push of a button.

What Singapore Airlines Suites Class is most known for is the double bed in the sky. Where other airlines may offer a double bed option on select premium products, often the two beds are not 100% connected, as the bottom half tends to be tucked away in separate compartments and footwells.

In the newest Suites Class product, you can rest side-by-side from head-to-toe. There is some space in between the two beds where the divider usually is; however, you’ll still be able to sleep right next to your companion in the comfort of the airline’s luxury bedding and pajamas.

There’s also a sliding door to each suite, offering even more privacy. However, the door doesn’t offer complete privacy, as it doesn’t connect all the way from the floor to the ceiling.

The suite comes equipped with advanced technology, too, including a personalized handheld wireless tablet with a host of seat and lighting controls.

There are multiple power plugs and USB outlets in the Suite, conveniently located so you can ensure your devices are ready for selfies. With so many charging options, you’ll also have them close by whether you’re wining, dining, relaxing, or sleeping.

Seat – Boeing 777 First Class

If you’re flying Singapore Airlines First Class on the Boeing 777, you’ll be flying perhaps a more underwhelming product compared to Suites Class. With that having been said, it’s still a First Class seat, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

One notable difference between First Class and Suites Class is the lower degree of privacy. Without any sliding door, this First Class seat is more exposed; however, with only four First Class seats in a staggered arrangement on the Boeing 777 aircraft, you’ll still enjoy a decent level of privacy.

The wide seats provide ample room with plenty of storage space. Any other passenger on the aircraft would surely be envious.

If you’re flying with a companion, you can still enjoy the experience together with a lowered partition in the middle seats. Unlike with Suites Class, there’s no double bed in the sky option here.

Food and Drink

As expected, Singapore Airlines First Class food and beverage options are of the highest quality. You can expect plenty of options with gourmet food and top-shelf beverages.

To start, you’ll be offered your choice of two high-end Champagnes (or both 😉), such as Dom Perignon 2008, Taittinger Comtes 2007, or Krug 2004.

Exactly which two Champagnes you are offered will depend on the route you’re flying and may change based on availability.

For the main course, all Singapore Airlines premium passengers have an option of selecting their meal in advance of the flight through Singapore Airlines’s Book the Cook service on select routings.

While in the air, the food service is dine-on-demand, meaning that Singapore Airlines First Class passengers can order their meal whenever they so desire.

Among some world-class dishes, you can also take part in the caviar service, which pairs perfectly with your high-end Champagne or with some ice-cold vodka.

In addition to caviar, Singapore Airlines has a signature satay chicken dish, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

You have a number of options available for main courses, including curries, noodle soups, grilled meats, and everything else in between.

The meal service is completed with a delectable dessert offering.

While Singapore Airlines Suites Class offers an amazing product for those travelling together, you can’t truly dine with your companion. Even though the beds can be set up beside each other, the separate chairs cannot.

Instead, you’ll still be in the same “space” as your companion with the lowered divider, but you’ll be sitting away from one another.

On the other hand, the Boeing 777 First Class seat may have a better configuration for dining together.

Dining together in First Class on the Boeing 777 is only possible for those sitting in the two middle rows with a lowered partition. You won’t be face to face, but you’ll be right next to each other, making it easy to toast to the experience.

Singapore Airlines First Class Aircraft Cabins

The regular Singapore Airlines First Class is offered on the Boeing 777-300ER, while the loftier Singapore Airlines Suites Class is offered on the Airbus A380.

Airbus A380

The most recent version of Singapore Airlines Suites Class is located on the upper-deck of the Airbus A380. The cabin has a simple 1-1 layout, with only six seats spread out across three rows.

Passengers travelling with a significant other, family member, or friend will want to choose either Suites 1A and 2A or Suites 1F and 2F.

Suites 3A and 3F cannot be combined with any other suites, and are therefore unable to combine into a double bed in the sky.

Solo travellers really can’t go wrong with selecting any suite. All suites have window access and the same level of privacy. However, the Suites in Rows 1 and 2 are slightly larger than the ones in Row 3.

There are two restrooms exclusively available to Suites Class passengers. Located at the front of the aircraft, the restroom on the right side is slightly bigger, but both are very spacious and come with everything you need to freshen up before going back to your suite.

With two restrooms for at most six passengers, you’ll most likely never have to wait in line.

Despite the massive space, however, the restrooms don’t come with a shower in the sky – as Emirates First Class does.

Boeing 777-300ER

The smaller Boeing 777 aircraft has only one level. The cabin has only four First Class seats at the front of the plane across a single row in a 1-2-1 format.

Passengers travelling together will want to select Seats 1C and 1D in the middle, should they wish to share the experience.

Solo travellers should choose Seats 1A or 1F for the ideal flying experience with the greatest privacy.

Singapore Airlines First Class Routes

After temporarily grounding all First Class flights due to the pandemic, Singapore Airlines reintroduced the regular First Class flights in June 2021, followed by the return of Suites Class beginning in November 2021.

With an ever-changing schedule as the world races back to pre-pandemic travel, be sure to check that your desired route is indeed offering First Class.

Singapore Airlines is currently offering Suites Class on the Airbus A380 on the following routes to and from Singapore:

Note that Singapore Airlines has a fifth-freedom route between Frankfurt and New York. This is currently the only way to experience Suites Class on the A380 to or from North America.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines is currently offering the Boeing 777 First Class cabin on the following routes to and from Singapore:

On the above map, note the fifth-freedom route for the Boeing 777 First Class seat between Los Angeles and Tokyo Narita.

How to Redeem Points for Singapore Airlines First Class

Outside of spending an exorbitant amount of money, Singapore Airlines only allows its First Class and Suites Class products to be booked through its own frequent flyer program, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.

For the same routes, all First Class cabins cost the same amount of miles. It doesn’t matter if you’re flying in First Class on the Boeing 777 or in Suites Class on the Airbus A380 – the cost is the same.

To search for award availability, you can use a tool like ExpertFlyer . Alternatively, you can easily search directly on the Singapore Airlines website.

Note that you’ll have to create a KrisFlyer account before you can search for award space on the Singapore Airlines website.

After you’ve created an account and signed in, simply enter your desired route, dates, and class of service. Be sure to check off “Redeem flights” to see award space results.

When redeeming KrisFlyer miles for an available First Class seat, you have the option of either a “Saver” or “Advantage” fare. You’ll ideally be able to find a “Saver” fare, as an “Advantage” fare costs almost double the number of miles.

There are a couple of differences between an “Advantage” First Class fare and a “Saver” First Class fare.

One perk of the “Advantage” fare is that the flight date can be changed without any additional cost. If you book a “Saver” First Class ticket, you’ll be subject to a $25 (USD) change fee if you’d like to change dates.

Similarly, cancelling an “Advantage” ticket costs only $50 (USD), compared to a $75 (USD) cancellation fee for a “Saver” ticket.

The fares also have different stopover rules.

Booking a “Saver” fare allows for one complimentary stopover on a round-trip flight. Booking an “Advantage” fare allows for two complimentary stopovers on a round-trip flight, and one complimentary stopover on a one-way flight.

On the search results page, you can see availability one week at a time. If you’re flexible with dates, it’s easy to scroll through and look for a seat at a “Saver” fare that won’t be waitlisted.

The following are the number of KrisFlyer miles required to book both Saver and Advantage fares on one-way flights either to or from Singapore.

The following are the miles required for either direction on the fifth-freedom routes:

On the earning side, KrisFlyer miles are generally harder to come by than points for other frequent flyer programs.

In fact, outside of crediting points from paid flights, the best way to access KrisFlyer miles as a Canadian who doesn’t have access to US credit cards is through HSBC Rewards .

HSBC Rewards points can be transferred to KrisFlyer miles at a rate of 25:9.

Marriott Bonvoy points may also be transferred to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at the ideal ratio of 60,000:25,000.

South of the border, there are many more transfer options.

KrisFlyer miles can be attained by transferring points 1:1 from Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express US Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou, or Capital One.

In the past, we’ve seen occasional 15–20% transfer bonuses from bank programs to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. If you aren’t in a hurry, it may make sense to hold off and see if such promotions will return.

Singapore Airlines First Class Award Availability

Award availability for Singapore Airlines First Class flights is generally quite hard to come by for the most popular routes.

Singapore Airlines releases First Class award availability 355 days from the departure date. If you’re able to plan that far ahead, this will be your best shot at snagging the preferred “Saver” fare.

However, “Saver” seats may not be released on all routes, so you’ll need some patience and dedication to lock one in on a popular route.

If you’re able to find “Saver” space on a popular route, be sure to book it right away, as availability tends to dry up very quickly on these highly coveted flights.

When there are still unsold Singapore Airlines First Class seats that haven’t yet been made available to book with KrisFlyer miles, you can also choose to be waitlisted. To select the waitlist option, you’ll need to have the required amount of KrisFlyer miles available in your account.

Once you’ve waitlisted, you’ll remain on the waitlist until two weeks prior to departure. Your waitlist could clear at any point before that, and you’ll be notified by email if a seat becomes available.

If you receive an email that your waitlist request can be cleared, you’ll be able to confirm the seat right away.

If, at two weeks prior to departure, your waitlist request hasn’t cleared, it will be cancelled. Note that not all flights have a waitlisting option.

If the First Class seats don’t get sold in advance of departure, Singapore Airlines may release additional award seats closer to the departure date. Since there’s no guarantee this will happen, be sure to have a backup plan in place.

Tips & Tricks for Singapore Airlines First Class

If you’d like to fly Singapore Airlines Suites Class from North America, your only option is to fly between New York and Frankfurt.

If you’re looking to continue onwards from Frankfurt to Singapore, and perhaps even further, but can’t find availability for the second leg, you can take advantage of Singapore Airlines’s First Class stopover policy.

You can make a complimentary stopover of up to 30 days if you’re flying round-trip with a “Saver” fare, or on either a one-way or a round-trip booking with an “Advantage” fare.

If you have the option, it’s better to fly westbound from Frankfurt to New York, rather than eastbound from New York to Frankfurt. This way, you’ll be able to experience everything Singapore Airlines has to offer during your waking hours, rather than during the eight-hour overnight flight.

The same can be said about any other flight routing in Suites Class. After all, you wouldn’t want to be asleep for most of this aspirational experience.

With your own mini-hotel room, complete with a double bed, swivel chair, free-flowing Champagne, and caviar service, Singapore Airlines Suites Class is the ultimate sanctuary in the sky.

Even if you fly in the regular Singapore Airlines First Class on the Boeing 777, you’ll be in for a treat, with highly regarded service and the same excellent food and drink.

Put simply, Singapore Suites and Singapore Airlines First Class are among the best ways to travel by air, and it’s hard to believe that this lavish experience can be booked at a fraction of the cost simply by earning and redeeming KrisFlyer miles.

Excited to try this Singapore Suites experience in the future😍❤️🙏

Business class vs. first class flights: Which is the better choice for you?

W hen it comes to air travel, the difference between a tedious journey and an enjoyable experience often lies in the class of your ticket. If your resources allow, should you opt for business class or splurge even more on first class? Let’s dive into the key differences between business class and first class to help you make an informed decision.

General benefits of flying business or first class over economy

Regardless of whether you’re flying business or first class, both offer significant advantages over economy class. These benefits include more comfortable seating, enhanced in-flight services, and personalized attention from flight attendants.

The seating configurations vary from airline to airline, but generally, passengers can expect more legroom, wider seats, and the ability to recline significantly more than in economy class, including lie-flat seats for most long-haul flights.

Additionally, both classes usually offer premium in-flight entertainment options similar to those available in economy class but possibly on larger screens.

The benefits of business class

Flying business class is a significant step up from economy class, offering a range of benefits that can make your journey much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Main advantages include:

  • Increased comfort: Business class seats are typically wider and offer more legroom than those in economy class. Many airlines also provide fully flat beds or lie-flat seats for international or long-haul flights.
  • Enhanced dining experience: Business class passengers often enjoy upgraded meal options with a variety of choices, served on proper plates with stainless steel silverware, cloth napkins, and complimentary spirits served in glassware made of actual glass.
  • Priority check-in and boarding: This benefit allows business class passengers to avoid long lines and board the aircraft before other passengers.
  • Extra baggage allowance: Business class tickets usually come with a generous baggage allowance, both for checked luggage and carry-on items.
  • Access to business lounges: Lounges offer a quiet and comfortable space to relax or work before your flight, with complimentary food and beverages, Wi-Fi, and sometimes even shower facilities.
  • In-flight entertainment: Expect a wide range of entertainment options, including larger personal screens and a broader selection of movies, TV shows, music, and games.

It’s important to note that the flight experience can vary significantly between domestic and international flights. Services in the US tend to be more modest, often resembling premium economy on international flights. On international routes, offerings are more luxurious and can rival first class on some airlines.

The luxuries of first class

On average, first class fares are approximately double the price of business class tickets, but first class takes luxury to the next level.

First-class amenities typically include and surpass business class amenities on international flights, as opposed to domestic ones. However, it’s always a good idea to do some research beforehand to confirm this.

Typical perks include:

  • Higher degree of seat recline: First class seats typically offer a higher degree of recline, allowing for more comfortable sleep during long-haul flights.
  • Enhanced privacy: When it comes to international travel, first class often provides private suites or cabins, creating a secluded space for passengers to relax or work.
  • Extravagant dining options: Menus are usually curated by renowned chefs and include a selection of premium wines and spirits. Some airlines even provide an à la carte dining option.
  • Personalized service: Dedicated flight attendants, personal butler services, and, in some cases, concierge services are among the personalized services offered.
  • Access to exclusive lounges: Exclusive airport lounges with gourmet dining, spa services, meeting rooms, and more are often accessible to first class passengers.
  • Extra amenities: Designer amenity kits, luxury bedding, larger personal entertainment screens, complimentary Wi-Fi, and in some cases, shower suites are among the additional amenities offered.

While the cost of a first-class ticket can be substantially higher than that of a business class ticket, for many travelers, these added luxuries make the extra expense worthwhile, especially for long-haul flights.

LGBTQ+-friendly destinations to fly to in business or first class

Traveling in style and comfort is a luxury that business and first-class flights offer. But for LGBTQ+ travelers, choosing a destination that is not only beautiful but also welcoming and inclusive is essential.

Here are some top LGBTQ+-friendly travel destinations around the world you might consider adding to your bucket list.

With its Mediterranean temperatures and city-on-a-beach feel, Barcelona is a popular destination among queer travelers. Madrid is also known for its inclusivity with a lively LGBTQ+ scene, among others:

With cities like Vancouver offering stunning natural beauty and a welcoming atmosphere, Canada is high on our list of LGBTQ+-friendly destinations.

Australia and New Zealand

Both countries are known for their progressive attitudes toward LGBTQ+ rights and offer a range of attractions, from bustling city life to picturesque landscapes.

Known as the land of smiles, Thailand is famous for its warm hospitality. The city of Bangkok is particularly notable for its vibrant nightlife and LGBTQ+-friendly atmosphere.

South Africa

Known as the Rainbow Nation for its diversity, South Africa is often regarded as the most LGBTQ+-friendly country on the African continent. The vibrant city of Cape Town offers a mix of stunning beaches, a rich history, and a thriving nightlife scene.

A irlines to consider

When it comes to luxury air travel, not all airlines are created equal. Some airlines go above and beyond to deliver exceptional experiences in their business and first class cabins. While their offerings may vary depending on the route, here are some of the best airlines for business and first class:

Best business class airlines

  • KLM: The best way to get to northern Europe , KLM’s ceramic keepsakes, issued each year, have become global collectibles. Combined with lounge access at Schipol Amersterdam airport, it’s a win-win.
  • Singapore Airlines : Known for its exceptional service and comfortable seating , Singapore Airlines is frequently ranked among the best business class airlines.
  • JetBlue : Despite being a low-cost carrier, JetBlue’s Mint is also regarded as one of the best domestic business class seats .

Best first class airlines

In addition to the airlines mentioned above, the following are some of the best travel experiences available:

  • Singapore Airlines : New first class suites include showers and joining beds for travelers who want to get cozy.
  • British Airways : British Airways is another excellent choice for first class travel , offering luxury service to over 200 destinations.
  • Delta Airlines : Recognized as one of the best first class airlines in the U.S. , Delta offers different types of configurations depending on the route, with most domestic routes offering a premium service.

Before you book your ticket, it’s a smart move to check out the airline’s policies on ticket cancellations or changes. This way, you’ll be in the know and have peace of mind. Life happens, and if any unexpected changes come up, you won’t be left with a pricey ticket you can’t use.

So… is first class worth the extra cost?

The answer to this question largely depends on your personal preferences and budget. The price difference between business and first class can be substantial. For some, the added luxury, comfort, and personalized service offered in first class can justify the extra cost.

For others, business class may be a more reasonable choice. It still provides many of the same benefits as first class but at a much lower cost. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which class best meets your needs and budget.

Airlines predict record summer travel — with surging demand for first-class seats.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Multiple airlines are reportedly anticipating carrying a record number of travelers this summer, including an increased demand in first class tickets.

United Airlines said Wednesday after reporting that it suffered $200 million in losses in the first quarter that it’s expecting a turnaround this summer.

“As an airline and as an industry,” United expects to “set another record for passenger numbers come June, July and August — the peak travel months for the season — the carrier’s Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella told investors.

To achieve this, more than 273 million Americans would have to take vacations this year, according to Investopedia , citing data from Transportation Security Administration checkpoints between May 31, 2023, and Sept. 17, 2023.

The record-setting figure for 2023 means that nearly one-third, or 32.8% of all US households passed through TSA checkpoints last year in what was dubbed a “revenge” travel season.

In another positive sign for the future of travel, customers appear willing to pay up for first class and other cabins above standard coach, executives said, according to CNBC .

Nocella said on the earnings call Wednesday that as a result, United is mulling further segmentation at the front of its planes, as it did when it implemented “preferred seating” options and perks for its MileagePlus members.

“You have many teams of people working on how to further innovate and provide more and more choice and to monetize that choice on our behalf, obviously, in the future,” Nocella said.

Alaska Airlines is similarly predicting a strong peak this summer — despite recent setbacks stemming from its infamous mid-air door blowout at 16,000 feet in January, CNBC earlier reported.

The Seattle-based carrier has prepped for the coming months by expanding its capacity roughly 3.5% over the past 12 months — which positioned it to forecast second-quarter and full-year earnings well ahead of estimates on Thursday.

Though Alaska Airlines reported earlier this month that it lost “approximately $160 million” in its first quarter in pretax profit in the wake of the fuselage blowout, Boeing — which built the 737 MAX 9 that malfunctioned on that fateful Flight 1282 from Portland, Ore. — repaid the sum.

Boeing said that it would give Alaska Airlines the $160 million it lost as part of an “initial payment” for “financial damages” resulting from the near-disastrous flight on Jan. 5 that ultimately led to a three-week grounding of Boeing’s 737 MAX 9 planes.

United also blamed that nearly month-long period on its own $200 million losses in the latest quarter, though Boeing hasn’t said that it would repay the Chicago-based airline — which was forced to cancel hundreds of flights and pause pilot hiring.

As Boeing faces a May 28 deadline from the Federal Aviation Administration to develop a comprehensive plan to address quality-control issues, the government agency is also probing United after several incidents this year, including a tire that fell from one of its older Boeing 777s , CNBC reported.

However, the setbacks didn’t seem to sway COO Nocella’s belief that it’s going to be a busy summer for United.

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian also said on his company’s earnings call last week, “Demand continues to be strong, and we see a record spring and summer travel season with our 11 highest sales days in our history all occurring this calendar year,” CNBC earlier reported.

Delta’s second-quarter forecasts also outpaced Wall Street estimates.

And in another display of travelers’ willingness to splash out on travel perks, Delta revealed plans to debut “premium” airport lounges back in February , touting that the high-end spaces will feature full-service brasseries, markets and dedicated wellness areas.

American Airlines and Southwest Airlines are both set to report their latest earnings results on April 25.

Traveling in coach is often cramped and uncomfortable. For most people, this is the only air travel option, but a lucky few on each flight get to fly first class.

If you’re tired of flying coach, you might be seeking out travel destinations where first-class tickets are more affordable. This can allow you to make the transportation part of your trip like a vacation in itself, while saving some money .

In most cases, first-class tickets aren’t necessarily affordable for most people. However, flying to certain destinations on the right dates and times can allow you to score a privileged seat for much less than you’d pay for other trips.

With that said, if you’re flexible enough with your travel itinerary, you might be able to book first-class seats for a fare that’s rather reasonable for even the average person. Of course, the interpretation of reasonably priced is a highly personalized one.

Relatively speaking, if you’re ready to book a first-class getaway in the next few weeks, there are some deals to be had. Here’s a look at 10 destinations to consider based on Kayak airfare pricing, with travel to and from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in Queens, New York.

London, England

  • Price: $5,208
  • Airline: British Airways
  • Airport: London Heathrow (LHR)
  • Dates: April 28 to May 4
  • Departure Flight: 11:15 p.m. to 11:15 a.m.
  • Return Flight: 7:05 p.m. to 9:55 p.m.

In comparison, another first-class roundtrip British Airways flight pairing to these same airports, on these same dates — including the same arrival flight — is $12,171.

Paris, France

  • Price: $9,407
  • Airline: JetBlue (arrival), British Airways (departure)
  • Airport: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
  • Dates: April 27 to May 3
  • Departure Flight: 5:10 p.m. to 6:55 a.m.
  • Return Flight: 2:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.

More than two-and-a-half times the price, you could fly roundtrip on Air France on these same dates for $23,364.

Dublin, Ireland

  • Price: $7,238
  • Airport: Dublin Airport (DUB)
  • Dates: April 28 to May 6
  • Departure Flight: 10:20 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 1:20 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

For nearly double the price, you could change the arrival flight to a nonstop Delta flight — keeping the same departure flight — for a grand total of $13,876.

Venice, Italy

  • Price: $6,743
  • Airport: Venice Marco Polo (VCE)
  • Dates: April 29 to May 6
  • Departure Flight: 6:50 p.m. to 11:55 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 1:05 p.m. to 9:05 p.m.

The cheaper flight noted above includes a layover. If you want to fly direct, Air France has a roundtrip first-class trip available for $19,308.

Milan, Italy

  • Price: $4,136
  • Airport: Milan Linate (LIN)
  • Dates: April 28 to May 5
  • Departure Flight: 8:55 p.m. to 1:35 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 2:15 p.m. to 9:05 p.m.

In comparison, you could spend four times the price for flights on the same days on American Airlines and Delta, with a total roundtrip rate of $15,459.

Istanbul, Turkey

  • Price: $7,744
  • Airport: Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW)
  • Departure Flight: 6:30 p.m. to 1:40 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 8:25 a.m. to 9:05 p.m.

Notably pricier, you could also fly first class in and out of Istanbul Airport (IST) on Air France for $22,329.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

  • Price: $6,674
  • Airport: Dubai International (DXB)
  • Departure Flight: 10:20 p.m. to 11:10 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 9:20 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.

The flight noted above includes a layover, but if you’re willing to pay three times the cost, you can also fly direct. Emirates offers nonstop flights roundtrip in first class for $18,186.

Edinburgh, Scotland

  • Price: $7,802
  • Airport: Edinburgh (EDI)
  • Departure Flight: 6:30 p.m. to 9:15 a.m.
  • Return Flight: 9:10 p.m. to 11:05 a.m.

This is clearly a deal, because another roundtrip itinerary on these dates, flying first class with both Delta and American Airlines costs $17,242.

Cancun, Mexico

  • Price: $809
  • Airline: American Airlines
  • Airport: Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum (TQO)
  • Dates: May 4 to 11
  • Departure Flight: 8:10 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 2:25 p.m. to 10:18 p.m.

Turns out, when you decide to travel matters. Simply choosing different first-class flights on the same day, with the same airline can raise your roundtrip total to $1,146.

Río Segundo, Costa Rica

  • Price: $1,484
  • Airport: Juan Santamaria International (SJO)
  • Dates: May 1 to 8
  • Departure Flight: 8:30 a.m. to 6:55 p.m.
  • Return Flight: 2:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Again, having flexibility with the time of day you travel can save a great deal of money. American Airlines offers another first-class, roundtrip itinerary on the same dates for $6,149.

Airline: Singapore Airlines (SQ) Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER (9V-SNC) Flight #: SQ241 Route: Singapore (SIN) > Sydney (SYD) Date: October 3, 2018 Duration: 7hr 40min Cabin and Layout: First Class, 4-seats, 1-2-1 config Seat(s): 1A Miles Used: 148,000 KrisFlyer (including a flight from Zurich in the new Suites) per person (now 163,000 miles) Taxes and Fees Paid: SG$89.70 per person ($65) Typical Retail Cost: CHF 15,000 per person (~$15,500)

Introduction

This flight between Singapore and Sydney was the second sector in a Zurich to Sydney booking made using KrisFlyer points.

You can read about the flight in Singapore Airlines’ new Airbus A380 Suites which preceded this flight, and how fortunate we were to have the waitlist clear just 24 hours before departure, in this separate review .

Sadly, from August 14, 2019, Singapore Airlines will cancel any waitlists 14-days before departure if they have not already been confirmed.

Update:  Due to reduced travel demand caused by the spread of Covid-19, Singapore is blocking first-class inventory on all of its flights through November 30 at the earliest on the 777-300s and A380s.

Our inbound flight from Zurich landed 9 minutes late at 6:04 a.m. which meant we had just 1 hour and 20 minutes before our connecting flight to Sydney.

We arrived at a gate close to the lounges at Changi Airport so we decided to drop by The Private Room to confirm when our boarding time would be and also because my partner hadn’t visited this particular lounge before.

On arrival, the lounge team member said we would only have a few minutes in the lounge as boarding was about to commence but kindly said she would arrange a buggy to take us to the gate so we didn’t have to rush.

As the team member said, we only had 5 minutes in the lounge for this visit but fortunately, I had already photographed it during a previous visit.

Entering the lounge complex, first class and suite class passengers are escorted to the Private Room by a staff member.

The Private Room is a lounge, within a lounge, within a lounge. You first enter the regular SilverKris lounge where a staff member will walk you into the First Class lounge. This lounge is open to Star Alliance first class passengers and Singapore Airlines’ top-level Solitaire PPS Club passengers.

You then finally arrive at The Private Room.

There is a customer service desk in front of departure monitors should you wish to discuss your upcoming flight with an airport agent.

A magazine and newspaper stand is offered.

The lounge then opens into a double-height space filled with single armchairs in a zone that runs parallel to the windows.

Sadly, the grates over the windows shield most of the view but it’s better than not having a view at all like in the adjacent business lounge.

A large LCD TV is mounted on the wall.

And if this Private Room isn’t private enough, there are 2 extra Private Rooms which are fitted with a solo armchair, ottoman and coffee table.

The dining room has a lower ceiling height, dim lighting, and textured wall padding to create a more intimate atmosphere.

Table service and a la carte dining is available. A small buffet is located in the corner, however, I don’t believe this is necessary considering the dining options on the menu.

Dom Perignon is free-flowing.

We didn’t have time for another breakfast, however, the menu offered:

Singapore Airlines First Class The Private Room Lounge - Breakfa

By limiting access to only Singapore Airlines suites and first class passengers, the lounge lives up its Private Room name as there were only a handful of other passengers present during my previous visits.

Singapore Airlines First Class The Private Room Lounge - Seating

Compared to other first class lounges by other carriers, there are no spa facilities, tendered bar, baths, jacuzzi, or sleeping rooms. So, although the lounge is a nice place to spend a couple of hours before a flight and enjoy a nice meal, it isn’t worth arriving too much earlier.

The buggy ride to the gate was very much appreciated and enjoyed!

Singapore Airlines just announced a $50 million renovation plan for all its lounges at Changi airport. These renovations are due to be completed by mid-2021, and I look forward to seeing how Singapore Airlines improves its first class experience.

If your travel originates in Singapore instead of in transit, you can arrive at the exclusive first class check-in reception at Terminal 2 or 3.

Singapore Airlines First Class Reception

A porter will welcome you outside and assist you inside with your luggage.

During a previous visit, I was fortunate to be the only passenger passing through the exclusive zone.

Following check-in, the lounge staff will escort you to the private immigration channel which drops you straight in front of the escalators to the lounge complex.

Singapore Airlines currently has a fleet of 45 Boeing 777-series aircraft including 27 777-300ER variants as flown on this flight.

Our aircraft was just over 3-years old.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777

Singapore Airlines’ 4 class 777-300ER aircraft are configured with just 4 open first class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. These are followed by 48 business class seats, also in 1-2-1, with 12 in the first cabin before door 2, and the remaining 36 in the second cabin. In the rear are 28 premium economy seats in 2-4-2 and 184 economy in 3-3-3.

Boarding the aircraft, the cabin looks beautiful with the soft pink lighting on the luxurious, hand-stitched chocolate leather.

Greg Stone - Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Side On

The cabin has been designed by BMW Designworks, though you won’t find any signature design elements of the automotive brand in the cabin as the company crafted the interior to suit the Singapore Airlines brand.

What you will find are soft-touch panels, no materials which are off-the-shelf, carpets that are custom made and custom tanned leather.

The seat is wide but thankfully there is a cushion to help wedge you in.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Front Front

Singapore Airlines differentiates the marketing and branding of these first class open-seats to its enclosed door suites found on the Airbus A380.

My partner and I both love window seats and for this day flight to Sydney, we decided to sit apart on opposite sides of the cabin. I selected 1A, my partner in 1F. The day before departure it was showing we were going to have the cabin to ourselves however upon boarding, another passenger was sitting in 1C.

A small walkway behind the middle seats allowed us to easily walk across the cabin to chat during the flight. The bulkhead is textured and illuminated.

Taking your seat, you’ll notice the seat stitching extends to the ottoman under the IFE screen. Under the ottoman, there is plenty of room to store multiple cabin bags, thankfully, as there are no overhead storage bins. A cupboard alongside the ottoman can also be used for storage.

Although there are no closing doors, the seat shell provides sufficient privacy for a 4-passenger cabin.

Next to the IFE screen is a door that reveals a mirror when opened.

Alongside the window is a power and HDMI socket as well as the lever for the tray table which extends from under the IFE screen.

On the side of the seat shell are buttons to control the seat angle, footrest extension and angle, mood lighting, to call cabin crew, a do not disturb activation, and IFE screen power.

Also on both sides of the shell are adjustable reading lights with a headphone holder on the aisle-side.

Continuing on the aisle-side is the IFE remote which is hidden behind a sliding panel under the armrest.

On the window-side is another sliding compartment which houses 2 USB ports and an iPod socket.

There are 2 lavatories in the front of the cabin for the 4 passengers, providing an amazing passenger to bathroom ratio of 2:1.

Although this was a day flight, I didn’t get enough sleep on the inbound flight from Zurich due to the uncomfortable air conditioning temperature, so after the breakfast service, I slipped into the provided PJs and had the crew member turn my seat into a bed.

first class travel singapore airlines

The seat flips completely forward and over creating a fully-flat bed without the lumps and bumps of a seat which simply slides flat.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Turndown Service

A plush Lalique-embroidered duvet sits atop the mattress pad with 2 pillows providing a luxurious environment to sleep. I had plenty of room whilst lying in bed, I had to point my toes as far as I could to get them to touch the end of the bed and I’m 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Flatbed Point of Vie

I managed to get 2.5 hours of sleep. Thankfully the cabin was kept a comfortable temperature this flight.

Although Singapore Airlines does not provide business class passengers with amenity kits, they certainly deliver to first class guests. The men’s Lalique-branded amenity kit features the standard offering of lip balm but also has an aftershave balm and an Eau de Toilette.

first class travel singapore airlines

Lalique pajamas accompany socks, slippers, and an eye mask rounding out the amenity offering. Dental kits are available in the lavatories. The notable omission is earplugs.

A large, 24-inch HD-enabled IFE allows you to pair your mobile device. Branded KrisWorld, it’s packed full of new release movies, TV shows, and music.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class

Unlike the A350 aircraft, the screen is fixed, so it cannot be positioned downwards when you want to watch it laying flat. My screen would also randomly dim then brighten every now and then.

Due to the distance of the seat from the screen, it isn’t a touchscreen, so you’ll need to use the remote to control it.

This aircraft hadn’t received the new Bang and Olufsen headphones we had on the new A380 but the Bose noise-canceling set was still excellent and as a result, I didn’t need to use my own Bose headphones.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Bose Noise Cancellin

Singapore Airlines provides complimentary internet for first class and business class passengers, but with only 100 MB for first and 50 MB for business class passengers. Even when you turn off all background app data usage, you’ll use up your allowance in no time.

However, in August 2018, the airline announced that all first class passengers will now receive unlimited inflight Wi-Fi across its fleet, and business class and elite PPS Club passengers complimentary data allowance will double to 100 MB.

Singapore Airlines price its Wi-Fi based on data consumption, and the plans only tops-out at 200 MB. I wanted to maximize my sleep so I didn’t test out the Wi-Fi on this flight.

Rather than provide an insignificant free option, I would prefer the airline just provide timed options instead. I am not a fan of the data consumption options and would prefer to buy a “flight pass.”

Upon boarding, I was offered a glass of Dom Perignon or Krug Champagne, orange juice, or water. It was an easy decision — I decided to stick to the Krug that I started drinking in Zurich.

Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 First Class - Pre Departure Champagne

The flight was delayed departing Singapore for 15 minutes which allowed for another top-up of Krug.

Both crew members looking at the first class cabin introduced themselves, and I had a feeling it was going to be a great flight. Their introductions felt genuine and they seemed interested in how our flight on the new A380 was.

Due to the 7 a.m. departure, breakfast is served after takeoff. Although we just ate breakfast before landing into Singapore, that was 4 hours previous, so I decided it was time for a second breakfast.

I selected the Sunrise Parfait of granola with fruit yoghurt and pear compote-orange zest which was accompanied with freshly squeezed orange juice, chilled apple or tomato juice, as well as a pastry. I decided to skip the fruit course.

first class travel singapore airlines

Other breakfast options were:

  • Fruit yoghurt
  • Natural yoghurt

After breakfast, it was time for a nap.

A lunch service is available later during the flight. I couldn’t go past the Singapore Airlines signature Malossol caviar service with Melba toast and condiments.

first class travel singapore airlines

The only other appetizer option was:

  • Lobster Chartreuse salad

Turbulence hit after this course so the crew advised me they couldn’t serve the hot soup course until it smoothed out.

first class travel singapore airlines

I also declined the salad course which was:

  • Salad of baby spinach, arugula, frisee, sundried tomato and kalamata olives and a choice of dressing

For main, I decided to “Book the Cook” after the waitlist cleared 24 hours before departure. After 2 weeks in Crete and Germany, I thought I should select something healthy, so I opted for the baked herb marinated salmon and arugula salad off the “Wholesome” range. I matched this with the 2014 Dalrymple Cave Block Chardonnay, Tasmania ($35 a bottle); the other white option was a German 2014 Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling ($16 a bottle).

first class travel singapore airlines

The salmon was cooked to perfection and was still moist. It thankfully wasn’t too filling and I wasn’t left feeling bloated afterward.

If I wanted to order off the menu, the options were:

  • Veal fillet with chanterelle and cep mushrooms
  • Famous Singapore chicken rice
  • Baked cheese-herb crusted halibut fillet
  • Gosht korma, sabzi jalfrezi, palak makkai

I finished off the lunch service with the chocolate and coffee moelleux cake with orange sorbet and butterscotch sauce which was absolutely delicious. I could have easily had another one but would have defeated the purpose of ordering a healthier main!

first class travel singapore airlines

The other dessert options were:

  • Warmed brioche toast with kaya spread
  • Selection of cheese

Throughout the flight the crew were attentive and personable; they were happy to have a genuine chat with no fake pleasantries and at no time was my glass left empty. Before landing into Sydney, the crew brought me a 787-10 commemorative teddy bear as a souvenir of my flight.

first class travel singapore airlines

This flight was the icing on the Singapore Airlines return-home cake. Although the cabin and seat don’t compare to the incredible new suites on the A380, the cabin with a maximum of just 4 passengers is even more intimate than the new suites cabin of 6. There may not be a sliding door, but the seat shell provides sufficient privacy. Plus, the long and perfectly flat bed is a comfortable place to sleep. You will just wish the flight was longer.

Add in the spectacular Singapore Airlines catering and friendly service from the cabin crew and you have a flight which simply can’t be faulted.

The only room for improvement is the ground experience in Singapore which doesn’t come close to the high standard set by Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal Frankfurt .

If I looked at this sector in isolation, I would probably save the points and book a business class flight instead as Singapore Airlines business class is also an amazing place to spend 7 hours and 40 minutes. But combined with a long-haul sector, for example to/from Europe, I would have no hesitation spending 148,000 KrisFlyer (now 163,000 miles) and SG$90 ($65) in taxes on these flights again.

Airline's first class seat with full bed is leaving people outraged they 'don't have enough legroom' because of it

Airline's first class seat with full bed is leaving people outraged they 'don't have enough legroom' because of it

This is more like a hotel room than a plane.

Lucy Devine

People have been left shocked after finding out what a 'first class' ticket could get them if they choose to fly with Singapore Airlines.

If you've ever flown long-haul in economy, you might have wondered how much extra it would cost just to have a teeny bit more legroom.

After all, flying for hours on end without much room to even shift in your seat can be painstaking, to say the least.

And if you're unlucky enough to be in the middle seat, being squished between strangers for 10 plus hours is no fun at all.

But over on Reddit , one person has claimed that flying first class with Singapore Airlines could actually get you a double bed.

Sharing a photo, the setup looks more like a hotel room than a plane cabin.

There's a pretty large double bed, with plush pillows bedside tables and lights, and even chairs either side.

There's even *two* TV screens - one for each side of the bed maybe?

It's worth noting that although the Redditor claims the photo is from first class, it's actually one of the airline's suites, which is actually a tier up from first class.

And people on Reddit were pretty blown away, with some outraged over the contrast between different cabins.

One person wrote: "Meanwhile in second class there is no legspace."

While another said: "Ya know, if they cut back just a tiny bit there might be a little more leg room in steerage. Just sayin."

And a third added: "So that’s where all my leg room is going."

Others joked that they'd never be able to afford the cost, with one saying: "I can't afford to even look at this." Relatable.

And another commented: "Good to see a picture of something I can't afford with my entire life savings," while a third added: "Nice, but not something I can afford."

Meanwhile, others joked they'd be chucked out for snoring.

"Me and my wife snore so loud we would get kicked out mid-flight," said one.

People were surprised about the contrast between the suite and economy.

Over on the Singapore Airlines website, it looks as though the image described on Reddit is one of the airline's double suites.

"Travelling with a loved one? In our Double Suites, the centre divider between rooms makes way for a luxurious double bed. Your world just got bigger," they explain.

There's also fine dining and a sliding door that shuts you off from the rest of the plane. And it even has its own bathroom.

"Well-appointed, spacious lavatories complete your Suites experience. A sit-down vanity counter comes complete with an exquisite range of toiletries such as the EDT, body lotion and facial mist from Lalique," the airline explains.

"Perfect for enjoying a quiet moment to refresh, rejuvenate and recharge."

Okay, this is *definitely* more like a hotel room than a plane.

Airline executives predict a record summer and even more demand for first class

By leslie josephs,cnbc • published april 17, 2024 • updated on april 18, 2024 at 6:27 am.

  • Airline executives expect a record summer travel season.
  • Demand is growing despite persistent inflation and safety concerns.
  • Air travel demand has been resilient despite persistent inflation and a spate of high-profile safety issues that have sparked congressional hearings.

While the aviation industry has been in the spotlight lately for a host of safety issues , airline executives say there is no sign of slowing demand for flights.

United Airlines "as an airline and as an industry" will carry record numbers of travelers this summer, the carrier's Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella said on an earnings call Wednesday. Alaska Airlines on Thursday forecast 2024 earnings ahead of estimates as the airline expands capacity 3% over last year.

"Demand continues to be strong, and we see a record spring and summer travel season with our 11 highest sales days in our history all occurring this calendar year," Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian said on his company's call a week earlier. American Airlines and Southwest Airlines report results on April 25.

Air travel demand has been resilient despite persistent inflation that has weighed on household budgets, as well as a spate of high-profile safety issues that have sparked congressional hearings and have become the butt of jokes from late-night television to TikTok.

Public and regulatory scrutiny of the industry increased after a door plug blew out of a Boeing 737 Max 9 in January. That sparked a new safety crisis for Boeing and slowed its deliveries of new planes to airlines.

United Airlines itself is undergoing a safety review with the Federal Aviation Administration after several incidents this year, including a tire that fell from one of its older Boeing 777s.

Airlines, which make the bulk of their money in the spring and summer, have also been grappling with higher costs of fuel and labor, with fresh contracts giving pilots and other workers large raises after years of stagnant pay.

Nonetheless, demand for international trips and rebounding corporate travel have helped boost global carriers. Both Delta and United's second-quarter forecasts outpaced Wall Street estimates. Customers appear willing to pay up for first class and other cabins above standard coach, executives said.

Nocella said on the earnings call Wednesday that the airline could further segment the front of the plane, much like United and other airlines have done with coach . "You have many teams of people working on how to further innovate and provide more and more choice and to monetize that choice on our behalf, obviously, in the future," he said.

Delta, meanwhile, has said premium revenue growth has outpaced sales from standard coach for years.

Delta, United and American have announced upgraded first- and business-class cabins as well as more and larger lounges to accommodate swelling numbers of travelers willing to pay up for higher-priced tickets or elite status or high-fee rewards credit cards.

Delta is slated to open a new, more exclusive tier of airport lounge later this year.

Domestic-focused and low-cost airlines are scheduled to report results in the coming weeks. Some of those carriers have struggled in recent months because of higher capacity, limited airplane availability and higher costs.
