India Tours & Holidays

Travellers looking at a shrine carving with their guide in Delhi, India

There’s probably no other country on the planet that blazes its way into your memory like India.

Years later, you can still hear the morning calls of the chai wallahs; see smoke curling over the Ganges during a golden Varanasi sunrise , and smell the rich aromas of simmering curry. A lot of India tours rush from highlight to highlight, ticking them off in a blur of temples and tikka. But not us. Our India holidays are more about spotting Bengal tigers in Ranthambhore or Panna National Park, hanging with nomads in Jaisalmer, meeting the holy men of Pushkar, or hunting down the best street eats. This isn’t just the India you see on postcards. This is India as it is . Raw, bizarre and totally addictive.

Best time to visit india.

Due to India's size and topography, the climate varies from place to place but the best time to visit, generally speaking, is in the winter from December until early March. During the coolest months (December-January), temperatures can get quite cold in Delhi and in the north, especially at night. The whole country tends to get very hot from April onwards and most regions experience the summer from late May to around October. The summer offers hot and humid conditions, although this is considered one of the best times to visit Ladakh and the hills.

Culture and customs

India is one of the world’s oldest civilisations with a culture steeped in ancient beliefs and traditions. Religion also plays a massive role in everyday life with 80% of the population practising Hinduism while the remaining 20% is divided into Muslim (India has the world’s second-largest Muslim population), Christian, Sikhism and Buddhist populations.

At its core, India remains a deeply conservative nation; however, it has been touched by rapid modernization and Western influences in recent years. Some families still adhere to a traditional structure (especially in more rural areas) with generations living under the same roof, the eldest male at the head of the family and arranged marriages. But this is becoming less and less popular, particularly in larger cities, where Western ideas and societal shifts heavily influence the culture due to things like Bollywood films.

While some behavioural standards remain the same (public displays of affection are still taboo), it’s important to keep in mind that with more than one billion people speaking over 122 languages across 28 states and seven territories, it’s impossible to describe one unified culture for the entire nations and the character of India’s people can vary greatly from city to city.

Geography and environment

India shares land borders with   Bangladesh ,   China , Pakistan,   Nepal ,   Myanmar   and   Bhutan , and also has wide stretches of coastline along the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. As the seventh largest country in the world, India is home to a variety of terrains - the Himalayas of the north, the deserts and plains of the west, the fertile waterways of the south and the hills and forests of the east. Development is occurring at a rapid pace, with India's large, sprawling cities consisting of everything from five star hotels to shanty towns, and with modern malls and cinemas sitting comfortably alongside bazaars and street food vendors. A trip through India will reveal a diverse range of landscapes, villages, cities and environments.

History and government

Early history.

Humans have inhabited India for as long as 75,000 years, with early civilisations flourishing as early as 3300 BC. Over the centuries, India both influenced and was influenced by other nations and kingdoms, with far-reaching trade, conquest and migration spreading the subcontinent's culture far and wide. Empires rose and fell over the centuries, with the wealthy Mughal Dynasty ruling most of India by 1600. At the same time, different European nations started showing an interest in India after being brought to the area for trade. The Portuguese, Dutch, British and French all had vested interests in India, with the British East India Company being given the rights to trade in India in 1617. The 1857 rebellion and War of Independence culminated in the decline of Mughal rule and were considered the first movements against the British Raj's heavy-handed rule of the country.

Recent history

By the 1920s, India's independence movement had grown considerably with Mohandas Gandhi leading mass movements based on passive resistance and non-cooperation against the British Raj. Although it took decades, India finally gained independence in 1947. More recently, India has seen dramatic societal changes mainly due to modernisation and globalisation. A new wave of prosperity has seen the rise of the middle class, with men and women entering into new work roles in telecommunications, manufacturing and business. India's large cities are dealing with the mass migration of rural citizens, who are moving to the city to seek better employment, education and opportunities for their children.

Festivals and events in India

Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervour of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:

Holi (Festival of Colour)

Take a whole lot of coloured powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty and you have Holi – a technicolour Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in either February or March.

Diwali (Festival of Lights)

India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colourful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.

Gujarat Kite Festival

Large, colourful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.

Mumbai Ganesh Festival

The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejewelled females take the chance to let their hair down.

What is the internet access like in India?

Internet access is generally very good in India, with most cafes, restaurants and accommodations offering free wi-fi, even in the more rural areas. There is also good phone coverage for data use if you choose to purchase a local SIM card to stay connected for the duration of your India tour.

If you do wish to purchase a local SIM in India, make sure your phone has been unlocked before your tour begins. There are quite a number of carriers that are all very competitive, but Airtel is probably the best option for travellers. You’ll need to a copy of your passport and visa to pick up a SIM, and the process can sometimes be a hassle, but rates in India are very affordable given the competition.

Yes, you’ll be able to use your mobile phone while on an India tour, but only if you have activated global roaming or purchased a local SIM card.

What are the toilets like in India?

Squat toilets are the most common toilets in India. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they are usually not provided. Flushable, Western-style toilets can be found in up-market restaurants, some higher-end hotels and in some tourist areas.

India is notorious among travellers for sickness – we’ve all heard horror stories about Delhi belly. Salad is off the menu for now – let your inner child rejoice!

Is India safe for LGBTQIA+ travellers?

The majority of Indian society is still conservative, and while most travellers will have a welcoming and hospitable experience, discretion is still advised for LGBTQIA+ travellers, particularly in more remote towns and villages which may be more conservative. The same advice is also given to heterosexual couples (and couples of all other sexual orientations) as public displays of affection other than hugging and holding hands are generally frowned upon.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or  ILGA  before you travel.

Is India accessible for travellers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

As a general rule, knowing some common words in the local language, carrying a written itinerary with you and taking to the streets in a group, rather than solo, can help make your travel experience the best it can be.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or you’re about to embark on your first trip, travelling can be as intimidating as it is exciting. That's the beauty of a small group tour. Plus, you'll have ready-made friends to share the journey with. All you have to do is turn up with a healthy sense of adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.

India Tours

How to describe India? A profusion of colour, chaos, sights, sounds and smells that will assault every sense on every level.

Such a rich cultural heritage spans several centuries and takes it influences from its many rulers: Rajput, Mughal. English and Portuguese layered with multiple religions, traditional beliefs and customs, music, dance, architecture and food all combined to make a destination unlike any other. If you want to immerse yourself in local culture, travel in luxury staying in outrageously opulent palaces, drive deep into a national Park in search of the Tiger, or enjoy a serene cruise through the Backwaters of Kerala on a converted rice barge, World Journeys can tailor the perfect Indian experience for you.

Old Delhi The walled city of Old Delhi pulses with energy and colour. The hustle and bustle of thronged bazaars is laced by a maze of narrow lanes which twist and turn between tall, leaning houses. With its intricate streets, elegant mosques, forts, monuments, and bazaars that sell a variety of goods, Old Delhi speaks volumes about its Mughal past.

Agra – The Taj Mahal The Taj Mahal is truly a vision to behold as the last golden rays of light shimmer off its lacy white marble, showcasing what is, perhaps, the most perfect architectural monument in the world.  It is often said that Taj Mahal changes its colours every minute depending upon the angle of sunrays, and is best seen either by sunrise or sunset. Sunrise, however, is the best time to photograph this magnificent monument under mild sunlight.

Jaipur The picturesque capital of Rajasthan and awash in pink, the colour associated with hospitality and Rajput culture. Beautiful displays of architecture attract visitors including the Palace of the Winds and the Amber Fort.  Shopping in the colourful bazaars for handlooms and trinkets is great fun with friendly locals always welcoming!

Kerala  The state of Kerala has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline and known for beautiful palm-lined beaches. Soak up the flavour of quite a different India with Portuguese history of Kochi, the verdant hill stations of Munnar, and cruise the tranquil backwaters of Kerala.

Darjeeling A town in the state of West Bengal, Darjeeling is famous for its stunning green slopes scattered with tea plantations.  Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881.

The best time to visit India is November to April when the weather is most comfortable. There is also a plethora of festivals during this time to add to your travelling experience.

The summer can be oppressive, hot and humid making sightseeing difficult in most places with the possible exception of the highlands.

Staff experiences

India had featured in my personal top ten places to visit ever since I was a child. I blame Rudyard Kipling of course – he painted glorious kaleidoscopic pictures in my mind of thick jungles, soaring palaces and beautiful people with shining eyes and wide smiles, adorned in shimmering saris every colour of the rainbow. I was therefore beside myself when I finally had the opportunity to experience it all for myself. The reality of this huge and populous country both delighted and overwhelmed me but thanks to Mr Kipling, I was seriously predisposed to fall in love with the whole experience.

From the chaotic markets in Delhi to the inevitable traffic jam as we waited for a sacred cow to cross the road, from the ethereal play of light across the Taj Mahal at sunrise to the collision of colour, scent and sound of local bazaars, India never failed to impress me. We were lucky to travel through India in the lap of luxury staying in palace accommodation which made the journey particularly enjoyable. Many were private homes of India’s Maharajahs, the Rambagh Palace in particular was home to generations of royals for nearly two centuries before becoming the residence of the Maharajah of Jaipur from 1925 to 1957. The Rambagh Palace is feted as a jewel in the crown of all authentic Indian palaces and has rightfully earned its place amongst the most luxurious properties in the world.

After a memorable week exploring Rajasthan’s Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur we headed south to Kochi (Cochin) and I felt like I had arrived into a different country! As I wandered barefoot along a beautiful beach with palm trees swaying gently in a soft sea breeze I reflected on the differences to North India. A slower pace of life in the tropical warmth is evident; men wearing loosely wrapped sarongs called mundu’s and women in their ever-vibrant saris laugh and chat as they shop or wander through the market. Cochin’s famed Chinese fishing nets line the water’s edge and rock gently backwards and forwards like oversized ‘praying mantis’. The fishermen are only too happy to give you a lesson in the primordial art of fishing and will also try to sell you some fish or lobster ‘very cheap’. I was completely fascinated by the South’s laid back way of life – the locals are so friendly and the beach resorts relaxing and full of charm!

If you want a healthy, rejuvenating holiday away from it all, with a bit of yoga on the beach, followed by an Ayurvedic treatment and a delicious seafood dinner then Southern India is most definitely for you!

Why we love it India has so many faces it really does have something for every traveller. The extravagance of the Maharajahs combined with the complex tapestry of its colonial past has resulted in some truly glorious architecture with huge aesthetic appeal – all begging to be explored. You can almost see shy eyes peeping out from behind latticed windows in the Palace of the Winds in Jaipur, soak in the tangible feelings of devotion in every inch of the Taj Mahal and wonder at the surreal angles and planes of the Jantar Mantar Observatory. It is easy to step back in time by joining a kettuvallam cruise on peaceful Kerala backwaters or leap into the future in the mighty metropolis of Mumbai. Explore the origins of yoga and Ayurveda or pull on your boots as you search for the elusive tiger in any one of a number of national parks throughout the country. Foodies will be well content a range of culinary experiences and of course trainspotters will delight in the 65,000 kms of railway of one of the largest rail systems in the world. India – what’s not to love?

Weather The most comfortable months for travellers over most of the country are October to March. The cooler hill stations are delightful through the early summer months of April – June. India is generally very hot and humid through the main summer months of July – September.

Social customs & quirks The Indians are a very warm, generous and hospitable race. They are also quite curious so expect to be asked lots of questions about yourself! If entering an Indian’s home, please remember to remove your shoes and appreciate that religious beliefs may well dictate certain behaviours. If you adopt a modest approach to your dress, speech and actions you will pretty much guarantee no major social gaffes.

Festivals & events India is renowned for its festivals and celebrations – each one a vibrant and colourful occasion. It should be possible to enjoy at least one festival during your time in India, regardless of the month! Diwali and the Pushkar Camel Fair are two of the most famous festivals celebrated in November each year. National holidays include Independence Day on August 15th and Ghandi’s birthday on October 2nd.

Navigate the busy streets of Old Delhi on a rickshaw ride

The nation's capital rings to the sounds of car horns, chai stalls and the chatter of its 29 million inhabitants. Shuffle into an open-air rickshaw and ride through the streets of the Old Delhi, admiring traditional Havelis and stopping for a famous mango or pomegranate frozen kulfi to cool off in the summer.

Gaze at the sun-kissed Taj Mahal in Agra

Take a journey to Agra and be stirred by the ultimate symbol of fairy-tale architecture. Inlaid with precious gemstones, this ivory marble palace was originally commissioned by an emperor as a tomb for his wife, standing as a symbol of love and opulence since 1653.

Spot tigers in Ranthambore National Park

Clamber into the back of an open-top safari car and spot leopards, marsh crocodiles, hyenas and Bengal tigers wandering their natural habitat. Sprawling over almost 300km 2 , the Ranthambore National Park is also home to a 10th-century fort, giant banyan trees and many lakes.

Experience royal Rajasthan

Enthralling cities interrupt the inhospitable desert in Rajasthan, India's largest state. Home to around 30 royal palaces including the floating lake palace of Udaipur and the iconic peach palace of Hawa Mahal, you will be swept up by the regal heritage found in this part of India.

Visit one of the Bollywood studios in Mumbai

Take a journey into the metropolis of Mumbai to uncover the prestigious culture of the Indian film industry. Without knowing a word of Hindi or a single Bollywood film, you will be captivated by this passionate industry. Be guided past the homes of megastars and catch a glimpse behind the scenes as the cameras roll.

Our top 5 things to do in India

Let Trafalgar guide your India vacation through a majestic tapestry of landmarks and experience. From the Taj Mahal to the tiger parks of Rajasthan, these are just some of the soul-stirring moments waiting when you travel with us.

National Museum

India vacation tours get under the skin of the country's culture with a trip to the National Museum of New Delhi. Roam the halls and take in elaborate jewellery, ancient manuscripts and traditional miniature paintings on cloth. From the prehistoric to the modern, this expansive Indian museum is a must-visit.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

The King Shivaji museum, or CSMVS, is a pride of Mumbai showcasing around 50,000 exhibitions within an impressive Indo-gothic building. After taking in archaeology, art and natural history, spend time in the tranquil, flower-filled gardens that contrast the bustle of Mumbai.

City Palace

Taking almost 400 years to be built, the City Palace of Udaipur is an architectural masterpiece beside Lake Pichola. Enter the museum section of the palace complex via the royal courtyard, allowing plenty of time to immerse in the artefacts of India's distant past.

Best museums in India

Step off the streets and find a moment of quiet in a spellbinding museum. Here are just a few of the places we will visit in India to peel back the many layers of culture.

A thin fried bread mentioned in 12th-century Sanskrit scriptures, paratha is part of India's cultural heritage. Try it stuffed with spinach, fenugreek and the cheese of paneer, or take it on its own for lapping up the leftover gravy from a delectable curry.

Varan Bhaat Diva

Popular along the sunny coastline of Goa, Varan Bhaat Diva is Indian comfort food of peas, beans, rice and many spices. Often given to those who are exhausted or sick, you will feel soothed by the warmth and turmeric in this family favourite.

Chicken cafreal

Inspired by the dishes brought from Portugal during colonial times, the herb coated chicken legs of cafreal will cement your infatuation with Indian cuisine. Shallow fried and often served with potato and wedges of citrus fruit, India tour packages aren't complete until cafreal is served.

Best food in India

Despite the many famous dishes that have journeyed far from the lands of India, this country still has culinary delights that will rouse your tastebuds. From warm bread to fragrant curries, we'll guide you through the secrets of this spicy land.

What to pack for India

People packing for a tour

A few good books

The Indian rail network chuffs for 65,000 kilometres around India. A geographically large company with relatively slow transport systems, a few books can keep you entertained between admiring scenery.

Light and modest clothing

Though India does get cooler than most expect, many parts of the year are intensely hot. Pack sheer, light clothing that covers you right to the ankles, wrists and neck so that you can respectfully visit religious sites without sweltering.

Medication for stomach upsets

Though our India group tours will see you largely protected from unsanitary food or water, it is still handy to keep a supply of medication on hand. Charcoal tablets can be taken daily as a preventive measure to ensure any nasties are quickly expelled from your system.

Water purification devices

The purification of water has come a long way in recent years. Make your way to a specialist travel shop to discuss bottles, gadgets and tablets that will ensure you stay hydrated without falling ill.

Wet wipes and hand sanitiser

True to its reputation, India can be a hot and messy place. Pack wet wipes and hand sanitiser to ensure you feel fresh when you're on the go.

Golden Triangle Tour

Golden Triangle

An amazing journey that I thoroughly enjoyed on The Golden Triangle Tour. I loved learning about the culture and seeing such beautiful architecture and hearing the wonderful associated stories. The Kite festival was brilliant, our tour guide 'Manu' was helpful and friendly at all times and added a personal touch to our group,he was very knowledgeable. I fully recommend the 'cooking class' in Jaipur and of course the highlight of the tour was the Taj Mahal. All the places we stayed were great except The Hotel Grand Park Inn, Delhi, the staff were lovely but the rooms were cold and damp with mould in the bathrooms, grubby linen and general cleanliness was lacking, as there was no communal area to go sit or meet others, I felt confined to my room, not the best place to start and finish an other wise great trip.

The organisation of the tour was excellent. I was picked up from the airport and welcomed in Indian style with flowers that touched my heart. The driver Rinku was the perfect companion during all the trip - not only as driver, but also like a personal assistant. Guides was different in each city and all of them were amazing. I highly recommend this tour and this agency.

India\'s Bestseller - 5 Day Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra & Jaipur (Guaranteed Departure) Tour

India's Bestseller - 5 Day Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra & Jaipur (Guaranteed Departure)

I was a little anxious about this tour as I was a solo female traveler and had read some reviews of not so great experiences. I want to say I had the best time and everything was fantastic! In Delhi I had Alvina as a tour guide and she was knowledgeable and helpful. In Agra I had Ahmit as a tour guide and I have to say he really knew the history as well, especially about the Taj Mahal which was an amazing experience. The last tour guide I had in Jaipur was Bhawani, he was super friendly and knowledgeable as well. The fees to the monuments are not included but it does say that when you book it. I already knew I would have to tip each guide and the driver as it is the culture here to do that but they were all appreciative about it and it was well deserving. I saw some reviews about being taken to the different shops but once again you don't have to buy anything and if you want to skip them you can ask your guide and there is no issues. Hotels were great especially the last one in Jaipur, it was a homestay with great hospitality. Last but not least thankyou to my driver Arvind! He made everything so smooth and comfortable. I can't express how much he made the trip so much better with his kindness and knowledge. Thankyou so much Arvind!

Taj Mahal, Tiger and Pink City Tour

Taj Mahal, Tiger and Pink City

We had a great time in India. The tour manager Mr. Amit was very responsive to all my questions and issues prior to the trip and was waiting for us to greet us at the first hotel. Our driver Mr. Vikram was great too. He was very professional and was always on time waiting for us each day. We absolutely loved our local guide in Jaipur. He was so professional, knowledgeable and quick that we felt we were very well taken care of. Now here’s the reason I can’t give 5 stars to this tour. It was the hotel in Jaipur and the local guide in Delhi. The hotel was not up to the standard of 3 stars at all. The bathroom was disgusting, moldy and gross. They called us around 10pm asking us to order room service both nights we stayed. It was the most horrible service that I have ever experienced at any hotels around the world. Now the local guide in Delhi, he made us decide to say goodbye after 3 hours. We never had a problem tipping people at all until the rickshaw ride (which was included in the tour). It was such a turn off moment for us when the guide asked us to tip them 200 for a 200 ride. He was also on the personal phone calls a lot, which made us feel that he really didn’t want to be there at all for us. We had to call it a day.

Premium India in Depth Tour

Premium India in Depth

Intrepid Premium India in Depth (November 13 - 25) Mumbai - Delhi Excellent tour leader along with very good local informative guides. 3 changes in accommodation; Mumbai - Gordon House Hotel is excellent, well priced and only 1 street back from Gateway to India but the company changed to Fariyas Hotel, Mumbai which was been renovated as well as painted so very noisy, couldn't use the pool and scaffolding all around. Definitely not ideal. Our second night in Delhi was also cancelled at Jaypee Siddharth Hotel though privately booked and paid for months before the tour so had to find alternative accommodation while on the tour and they told the travel agents they were "closed for renovations" however the tour was booked and stayed there and no renovations were occuring. Hadoti Palace Hotel in Bundi looked nice and rooms were big but not clean especially the toilet and shower. Otherwise all hotels were very nice and rated accurately; cleaning the showers/washrooms would have helped with the mouldy smell but that is somewhat consistent in most countries. November is the start of wedding season in India which are very loud and noisy and have no time restrictions so be prepared for that if going at this time of year. Tour involves quite a number of days travelling in a bus/coach for 4 - 6 hours with a stop every 2 - 3 hours. Rest stops are OK at best with only snack food to purchase. Adjusting the departure time would have helped with timeframes as quite a few days we were getting lunch around 2 - 3 pm when hotel kitchens were closed. Definitely not enough free time for shopping on your own with organized evenings most nights or in a venue on the outside of towns. Toured the markets but they were only a walk through with the group and no time to stop and shop. Restaurants and food was amazing and no one was unwell on the trip. 2 days in Ranthambhore Park was too long and could have done in 1.5 days with more time in Agra. Overall a very good trip for myself and my father (aged 79).

Colorful India with Taj Mahal & Rajasthan Tour

Colorful India with Taj Mahal & Rajasthan

Overall it was an amazing experience. We truly got a feel for India. The itinerary was filled with historic sights and a varied cities. Here’s the great things about this trip: Every place we went there was a guide waiting for us. Most of them spoke good English and were very knowledgeable. You do pay for entrance fees to every site,(usually 600 INR) and you need to tip the guides The price of the tour was a great value. We had compared many tours and felt this was the best We were a group of 3 women traveling together and we always felt safe. Though we didn’t request it, it ended up as a private tour, the 3 of us and our driver. We had our own rooms and there was no extra charge for this. We were able to add extra side trips to the itinerary. There was a good variety of things to see: palaces, forts, temples. We were also able to adjust the itinerary to places we did/ did not want to visit Our driver Takhat Singh, was incredible. He looked out for us from the very beginning. He gave us practical advice, ensured our safety, and went out of his way to accommodate suggestions we had. He was very knowledgeable about every place we went and shared anecdotal information. His English was very good. He truly made our trip! Negative Some of the hotels were located very far from the attractions requiring extra driving back/ forth thru the city Although we set up the trip months ahead of time, we did not receive specifics, like hotels and name of driver, till a week or les before. We added additional dates and had to ask repeatedly to get information about where we were staying. We did not have a consistent, direct contact at Kk. Every time we sent messages through Tour Radar we were communicating with different people. Guides strongly dissuaded us from purchasing anything in markets, and would take us to higher end pricey shops. There were some things that would have been good to know ahead of time We felt a lack of communication on specifics of the tour. It would have been helpful to know that we had to pay all entrance fees, and the tipping structure of India, At the end of tours, the guides would often take you to merchants under the guise of a demonstration. We felt discomfort and pressure to then purchase from that vendor. There is very little downtime. The drive time between towns is often long. Each day was filled with touring. Some built in downtime would be helpful. This may mean that you add an extra day or two. Overall we felt that KK Holidays provided a great format for exploring northern India. We would highly recommend this trip.

Golden Triangle Tour With Ranthambore Tour

Golden Triangle Tour With Ranthambore

I travelled to India as a single mother with my 13 year old son and we booked the golden triangle with Ranthambore trip for 8 days. From the initial booking of the trip on line with Tour radar, the run up to the holiday and throughout the trip, I found the communication and service to have been excellent. There was a small issue prior to departure after a PayPal payment for additional activities that I had paid a month prior was bizarrely sent back to me, but I paid this in cash on my arrival to India. Thankfully the mishap didn’t affect the planned additional activities. Our driver ‘Messi’ picked us up at the airport and looked after us throughout the entire 8 day trip. He was brilliant, always available and friendly. We stayed in 4 different hotels, that were mostly adequate and comfortable. I wouldn’t class them as UK 4 star, but reasonable for the price you are paying. The second hotel in Jaipur unfortunately was not best as the location was very near to an open sewage river and ontop of the smell from that, there was a wedding on the hotel grounds across the road, that kept us awake all night when we had to be up at 4 am the following morning for an early start. We had tour guides in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra who were all very knowledgeable and friendly and whilst we were in Ranthambore on tiger safari, the safari guides were also good and we had an amazing experience of seeing a tiger very close up. Agra and the Taj Mahal was incredible and was the perfect ending to our trip before we went back to Delhi and flew home.

Golden Triangle Tour with Varanasi Tour

Golden Triangle Tour with Varanasi

In tourradar there were more options of tour to choose from. I am glad that I choose the golden triangle with Varanasi because it covered most of the north India that I wanted to visit. World Travel Experiences is the tour company that took care of us very well. They were very prompt to answer any questions and concerns. They took care of us since the beginning until the very end. The drivers were very polite and respectful, and they know how to navigate the heavily traffic roads. The tour guides were speaking very good English, knowledgeable and resourceful. Almost all of the tour guides went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and covered the Itinerary. Most of the hotel rooms were above the standard. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and over night train ride. It is advisable to keep 500, 100, 50, 20 and 10 rupees for tipping. Overall it was a great memorable vacation. Thank you tourradar and World Travel Experience.

What people love about India Tours

Very informative,a bit of a challenge ,had a great time.
Although I LOVED everything about this trip, I have to say that the experience was 10 times enhanced by our amazing CEO, Manvendra. He went above and beyond and truly made this the trip of a lifetime

Delhi Kochi Mumbai

India ’s appeal extends beyond its ancient relics and monuments. From the frenzied city streets and glittering world of Bollywood, to exuberant religious festivals and flavourful cuisine, India is a traveller’s dream. If you prefer not to give up your creature comforts, you can sit back in air-conditioned comfort on a bus tour, while others can get among the daily life by cycling along the beach at Goa or elbowing your way through a jostling bazaar.

Don’t miss these India attractions

  • The holy city of Varanasi
  • Tour of Mumbai’s Dhavari slums
  • India Gate and Rajpath in Delhi
  • Diving around Grande Island near Goa

History, religion and relics

A landscape dotted with temples and monuments, India is marked by a rich culture dominated by spirituality and religion. On an organised tour, you can make the pilgrimage to the holy city of Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges, be spellbound by the glittering hues of the Golden Temple, and discover the Dilwara Temples in Mount Abu.

For a true once-in-a-lifetime experience, plan your travels around one of India’s festivals. Diwali represents the start of the Hindi New Year, during which clay lamps, candles and fireworks are lit, while Holi festival also celebrates the spring harvest season. Visitors during Holi can get amongst the excitement by throwing brightly coloured powder at one another.

A break from the city

If you tire of the bustling city streets of Delhi and Mumbai, why not consider heading to Goa or Puducherry. Goa is a seaside town brimming with a wealth of churches to explore and water-sports to enjoy, while Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) is a charming French-influenced city that you can explore in a day on a rented scooter.

No holiday to India is complete without a visit to Agra’s most treasured landmark, the Taj Mahal. Simply awe-inspiring, this white marble mausoleum built in remembrance of Shah Jahah’s favourite wife is perhaps one of the world’s finest examples of historic preservation. Audio-guides and local guides lead the way here.

Blissful thermal springs and heavy sweeps of rainforests meet breezy west-coast beaches and idyllic islets. If you are a water baby, hop on to one of the many yachts at Waitemata Harbour. Embark on an unforgettable sailing adventure with your family. Delve into darkness on a boat as you swing off onto the Waitomo River. Watch creatures of the night glow in the dark. You are surrounded by ivory white little lights that twinkle. These are not stars, but glowworms.

Walk up to the Mount Victoria viewpoint and be greeted with far-reaching views of steep fiords lying between New Zealand and Antarctica.

In the process of a creative transition after the Canterbury earthquake, Christchurch has bounced back brighter and bolder than ever. A walk to remember as you meander along 30 tranquil riverside hectares of floral heaven at the Botanical Gardens. Or shopping for vintage clothing, surfboards or delicate hardware from beautifully refurbished Victorian buildings. The choice is yours.

The delightful company of playful dolphins and wondrous whales await. Indulge in world class diving, kayaking, big-game fishing or yachting when in the Bay. Head to Urupukapuka Island to listen to a melodious bird song. Hike extensive trails or laze around on its bed of numerous beaches.

Queenstown

The flurrying adventure capital of New Zealand’s South Island is ornamented with crumbling mining towns, picturesque vineyards and bungee jumping points. If you are visiting during the winter season, make your way to the slopes of The Remarkables and Coronet Peak to engage in some adrenalin pumping skiing.

New Zealand’s culinary classics are dominated by scrumptious seafood and sugary items of confectionery. Be it fried bread, a wealth of shellfish or some heartwarming kawakawa tea, New Zealand’s food scene is brimming with flavor. Do try these delicious dishes that will certainly make you wish for more than one cheat day!

THINGS TO DO

Places to visit, overview new zealand tour packages from india.

Lying in the south-western Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is an island country, about 2000 kms south-east of Australia and near the centre of the water hemisphere.

Mountains and glaciers and volcanoes, caves and bushes and forests, lakes and rivers and beaches; the country offers mysteries to unravel wherever you chose to go, making it one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

It comprises largely of two long landmasses, the North Island and the South Island along with 700 other smaller islands, Stewart Island being the largest among them. The two islands are separated by Cook Strait just 22 kms at its narrowest.

Bushes and forests and islands and beaches; if that’s what you are looking for, North Island is the place to be. Mountains and glaciers and cliffs and caves will draw you to the South Island.

If you are just a water person looking for swimming, sunbathing, fishing or if you are fascinated by water sports like surfing, diving or even sailing then North Island beckons you. You get to round off your water-side days with an amazing array of nightlife too at Auckland or Wellington.

On the other hand, if you are drawn by adventure activities like mountaineering, hiking, tramping, or thrills of rafting and kayaking or jetboating then South Island is the place to head for. There is a bit of everything in both the islands. You can mix and match your visit according to the disposition of your spouse or other family members.

Much of what makes a trip pleasant depends on how you plan it. The plethora of choices can make it daunting. Leave it on us to plan your New Zealand Tour Itinerary for a hassle-free vacation.

The South Island

The South Island or Te Waipounamu, as it is officially called, is bigger of the two. The South Island is divided in its middle by the Southern Alps that run through the entire island from north to south like a vertebra.

This 500 kms of round-the-year snow-capped mountain range is a series of breath-taking scenic destinations. Feeding glaciers and crystal-clear water into the rivers, this alpine wonderland of rock, snow and land is a dream destination to be at. Once in the lifetime at the least.

Rolling down from the mountain range towards the sea on the eastern side of the South Island is the Canterbury plains. The city of Christchurch with its Christchurch Botanical Garden and the coastal village of Kaikoura with its whale watching tours are popular destinations this side of the alps. The city of Dunedin in the area is adored by the visitors looking for eco-adventures.

On the western side, the mountain ends into rough coastlines of the West Coast, the native bushes, the glaciers and the national parks. The fiords of Milford, Dusky and Doubtful Sounds are the famous inlets of the sea carved by the glaciers in the region.

Franz Josef glaciers here are the most easy-to-reach glacier in the world. The famous hiking track, the Milford Track in the Fiordland National Park, is an absolute favourite among the visitors in the area.

Up in the heart of the alps lies the tallest mountain of New Zealand, the Mount Cook, and the longest glacier in the country, the Tasman Glacier. They both form part of the Mount Cook National Park which is the mountaineering hot spot of the country.

The gateway to Mount Cook and to the whole of the southern alps is the city of Queenstown situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The city’s location makes lovers of bungee jumping, mountain climbing and adventure sports flock to the place in droves. No wonder it is called the adventure capital of the world.

Towards the northernmost end of the South Island is the Tasman Bay overlooking the Abel Tasman Coast Track, a 51 kms hikers’ delight through one of the sunniest regions of the island.

The North Island

The North Island, officially Te Ika-a-Maui, though smaller than the South Island, is more populous. It accounts for 77% of the New Zealand’s population that mostly live in the twelve urban centres including Auckland, Rotorua and Wellington.

Auckland, towards the north of the North Island, is the most populous city of New Zealand. A narrow strip of urban land surrounded by sea, it is spread between the volcanic hills on one side and the twin harbours on the other, making it an exciting mix of natural wonders and urban thrills. Across Auckland, just a short ferry ride away is the Waiheke Island of the golden beaches and amazing vineyards. The Coromandel Peninsula with its pristine hot water beaches and native forests is an enticing invitation to a laid-back and calming day trip.

Further north to Auckland is the Bay of Islands with its astounding coastlines and wondrous forests.

Rotorua sits in the central part of North Island just 253 kms away from Auckland. The region is the hub of constant geo-thermal activities that has resulted in its exceptional landscapes, hot springs and waterfalls, hot lakes and pools and a plethora of unique flora and fauna.

Extending from the north-east to south-west of North Island is the 100 kms long semi-circular bay called the Hawke’s Bay, a delightfully alluring cycling and wine trail.

At the tail end of the North Island is Wellington, the capital city of the country, with its stunningly beautiful natural harbour and lush green hills dotted with colonial villas.

Give yourself a little indulgence you always deserved and set out on the journey through these amazing landscapes. And while you are at it, you can also add another fascinating country Australia to your pampering.

We at Flying Squirrel Holidays will make it an unforgettable experience with our customised Australia and New Zealand Tour Packages from India.

The diverse and varied topography of New Zealand lends itself to offer a wide variety of activities centred around nature that visitors can enjoy.

An advanced, modern and developed nation with an amalgamation of cultures that date back thousands of years, it has much to offer in urban pleasures, arts, culture and cuisine too for you to feast upon.

Whether you want to relax lazily, or you want to hustle up thrills of extreme adventures, there is a whole gamut of activities for you to do.

The best part is that you can do most of those activities either from the comfort of an urban stay just thirty minutes away or a charming day trip.

Go for the thrill

If thrilling experience is what you are looking for, go Bungee Jumping from under Auckland Harbour Bridge; or for a more extreme thrill, from the Kawarau Bridge near Queenstown and drive your inner devils away.

Skydive in Queenstown or Wanaka from thousands of feet above and you will have an altogether different perspective of life and landscapes below. There are arrangements for first-timers to go step by step through the experience.

If you find bungy jumping or skydiving too extreme, go for jet boating which is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and available all through the year. Speed away and spin past marvellous cliffs and awe-inspiring landscapes for an experience of a lifetime in the Lake Taupo region.

Paragliding, rock climbing; mountain biking; there is so much to do. For a saner adventure and outdoor experience, go for walking, hiking, skiing, trout fishing, whale watching and stargazing.

Go sight-seeing

Getting to picturesque locations to enjoy the scenic splendour is your fascination? Reach Te Anau and leave for an afternoon cruise around stupendous fiords, marvellous waterfalls and stunning snow-covered mountain peaks of Milford Sound.

The entire region of Queenstown, Milford Sound, Lake Tekapo and the journey in between is a witness to nature’s grace and grandeur, calm and fury. Magical scenic beauty awaits at every point your legs and eyes can carry you to. Go archive it to a lifetime memory.

If reaching unspoiled lands excites you then go exploring the rugged West Coast. Heli ride to the top of the glacier and then take a guided walk down the Franz Josef and be overwhelmed by the magical site of glacier so close. Or go on a mountaineering track at Mount Cook.

For the gentler outing, go cycling the wine yards trail or just walk in the Fiordland National Park, Bay of Island or Tasman Bay.

Experience culture

If you are drawn to experiencing exotic cultures, then get acquainted with one that is thousands of years old. Get a fascinating introduction to Maori culture at a pre-European Maori village in Rotorua. Enjoy delicious Hangi feast listening to traditional music.

Be a gourmet

If you are enticed by culinary delights, the North Canterbury Food and Wine trail will let you in to delectable local flavours and excellent wines. You can also go relish the fully guided food and wine experience at the Hawke’s Bay.

Turn a wanderer

Go backpacking. Just about anywhere in New Zealand is a place to go camping and loafing. Seek shelter in the hideouts of the fascinating countryside and beyond. And then you can just relax.

Put your feet up at the hot water beach of Coromandel and let all your urban fatigue dissipate.

Queenstown is not merely an adventure hub. It is quite a relaxing place to be. It is surrounded by a soothingly beautiful trail of scenic spots.

There is so much to do in New Zealand and would need professional help to decide where you need to go to find your own interests. We at Flying Squirrel Holidays are there to help you.

TOP TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Auckland is the first city most international visitors arrive at before they fan out to different tourist destinations in the country. The city itself has several fun places to go to.

The Sky Tower Observatory Deck atop a 328-metres high building reached by a glass elevator and The Auckland Harbour Bridge guided climb are the two major attractions of the city. Tourists flock them for stunning views of the city, the harbours and the surrounding region. Thrill-seekers use them for sky-diving and bungee jumping.

A ferry ride away from Auckland is the Waiheke island in the Hauraki Gulf Marin Park, that beckon travellers with lovely beaches and easy walking trails through its vineyards.

Yachting, sailing and sport fishing are activities that have their own followers who flock to the Bay of Islands.

The claim to the popularity of Te Puia Thermal Reserve at Rotorua is its hot spring and steam clouds. Rainbow Springs Nature Park is a popular destination with wildlife lovers looking for a close acquaintance with the wildlife and a possible sighting of the kiwis. Many are enamoured by Agrodome Farms just to get an authentic farm experience of the New Zealanders.

Tourists love to congregate at The Church of the Good Shepherd just to take pictures of this world heritage site commemorating the early settlers. Lake Pukaki with its heavenly blue waters is another pretty picture most travellers can’t resist.

Among the most picturesque place in New Zealand that vacationers are attracted to is the Lake Tekapo in the McKenzie Basin. The intense milky-torque coloured lake in the backdrop of the magnificent southern alps is a bewitching site traveller want to be stored in the memory forever.

Aoraki/Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand draws sightseers in droves for helicopter flights over the mountain or to simply watch the glaciers and snowy peaks under the starry sky.

A.J. Hackett Bungy Jump Site at Kawarau bridge is an ode to the New Zealanders zeal for the thrill and a must-go place for those seeking extreme adventure. Tourists who look for a more leisurely way to enjoy the sublime sights of the alps around Queenstown take to cruise in the steamship over the beautiful Lake Wakatipu. The cosy township of Te Anau, lying cuddled around the Lake Te Anau, is a picturesque base for the visitors to take a breath before they set on for the long walk of the Milford Sound.

Voyagers love to trudge the 53-kms expedition through the mountain passes, suspension bridges and boardwalks giving some of the most exhilarating views of the imposing mountains and misty valleys.

And how can anyone end her visit to the southern alps and not go to the Fox Glacier or Franz Glacier? Glaciers can be found elsewhere in the world, but they are mostly unapproachable. Fox and Franz glaciers are the most accessible in the world, reaching from the mountain almost to the sea level.

The TranzAlpline train ride from Greymouth in the west coast through the scenic alps and then through the Canterbury plains to Christchurch on the east coast is a popular tourist attraction.

On the banks of one of the most scenic lakes in New Zealand, Queenstown is often referred to as the Adventure Capital of the world

After a heart breakfast, drive back the Auckland where you will drop off the car and take a 1.5-hour long flight to Queenstown. Once you reach Queenstown, pick up your second self-drive car and find your way to the Skyline Gondola Ride. Situated just five minutes away from downtown, the Gondola ride is one of the major attractions in Queenstown, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the skyline. Not only is the gondola ride an unforgettable experience, the Skyline also offers a multitude of activities such as Luge, Mountain Biking and star gazing.

After having spent enough time at Skyline Queenstown, drive you way back to the hotel and retire for the night.

Queenstown: Wine and more thrills.

  • Gibbston Valley

From the quiet of vineyards to the thrills of a free fall, all is included in this action-packed day on the best New Zealand itinerary

Our first stop for the day is Arrow Town, where history meets nature. Arrowtown is a lively, quirky, historic village. Relaxed visitors browse its heritage main street, and outdoors lovers revel in its network of beautiful summer trails and winter ski-fields. Then we move on to Gibbston Valley where you will enjoy a wine tasting tour through New Zealand’s largest wine cave.

After spending a quiet morning, now it is time for some thrill. Not only is Queenstown the bungy capital of New Zealand’s adventure industry, it’s ground-zero for commercial bungy jumping anywhere in the world and when here, we have to give you a chance to experience it first-hand.

Return to reality post that stunning day as your drive back to your hotel for the night.

Te Anau: Milford Sound and Te Anau

  • National Park
  • Milford Sound

Enjoy a cruise that takes you past mammoth fjords and silent waters as you try to take in the sheer size of these mesmerizing chunks of ice.

Known as the gateway to Fiordland national park and Milford sound, Te Anau is a small town where all the Fjord adventures start. Deep within Fiordland National Park lies Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction, Milford Sound. With its magical combination of mountain peaks, ink-dark waters and superb dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it must be seen to be believed. Enjoy a cruise that will take you out on the water and ensure that you see the Fjords in all their glory.

Steady your feet after that day spent in the water as you take the wheel and zoom away to the hotel in Te Anau.

Te Anau: Half Day tour of Glenorchy.

  • Horse race track

Mesmerizing in every way possible, the secluded town of Glenorchy is one of the must visit places on your New Zealand itinerary.

After a delicious breakfast, head out to Glenorchy, a small alpine village known as “The Gateway to Paradise” and the perfect side trip from Queenstown. You may also recognise Glenorchy as Middle Earth, as there are many ‘Lord of The Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit” movie settings nearby amongst the spectacular mountain backdrop. The small town is a great option if you want to be beside the lake and the mountains but prefer to stay once removed from the bustle and bluster of Queenstown. The tramping around Glenorchy is sensational, and the town is also a base for horse treks, helicopter flights and skydives.

Here in Glenorchy you will have a chance to experience an adrenaline rush like never before as you participate in the Sky Diving activity. Return to your hotel in Te Anau and relax for the night.

Queenstown: Back to Queenstown with Lake Wanaka & Puzzling world enroute.

  • Natural Beauty
  • Puzzling World

Be utterly mind blown as you take in two extremes in the same day, Untouched natural beauty of Lake Wanaka and the man-made wonder of Puzzling World.

Located in the stunning alps of the South Island in New Zealand, visitors from around the world are drawn to the Wanaka region by its outstanding natural beauty. Wanaka’s lakes and mountains and proximity to Mt Aspiring National Park, makes it the ultimate base for outdoor activities. But it’s not just the outdoor enthusiasts who have plenty to do, stroll the streets and be inspired by galleries, stylish shops and be spoilt for choice with a great selection of cool cafes and restaurants.

You will also enjoy a visit to the puzzling world. For over forty-five years Puzzling World has been messing with people’s heads no matter what age, nationality or experience. With a mix of bizarre buildings, rooms of illusion and the world-famous Great Maze this attraction is designed to baffle your brain and challenge your perceptions of reality. After exploring both these places thoroughly, drive down to Queenstown where you will check into your hotel and retire for the night.

Christchurch: Arrive in Christchurch.

  • Snow Activities
  • Helicopter ride

Though the morning is at leisure, the day will bring along scenic drives as you take the road from Queenstown to Christchurch.

Wake up as and when you please, and head for breakfast as you have the morning at leisure. Should you like, you have the option of taking a helicopter ride to the Glacier with snow landing. In the afternoon, proceed towards the decked up town of Christchurch where its European heritage is disrupted by wild untamable nature.

Check into the hotel and relax.

Christchurch: Akaroa cruise.

  • Marine life

An extinct volcano, pretty dolphins and blue waters that seem to transcend horizons all form a heady mix that give Akaroa its undefinable vibe.

Akaroa (Long Harbour) was the site of the country’s first French settlement, and it’s a charming town that strives to recreate the feel of a French provincial village, down to the names of its streets and houses. Experience majestic scenery here and stunning wildlife, including Hector’s dolphins, blue penguins and birdlife, on Akaroa cruise.  Spend the day at sea as you take in the views of the beautiful city. Dock at the port and head back to the hotel.

Christchurch: Sightseeing in Christchurch and Departure

Experience the pulse of Christchurch as you take in the best of Christchurch before beginning your journey home.

After a heart breakfast set out to explore the city of Christchurch where curious travellers  revel in the chaotic, crazy and colourful mix, full of surprises and inspiring in ways you can't even imagine. Cover all the major attractions such as Canterbury University,

Riccarton House and Riccarton Bush, Mona Vale, Hagley Park, Antigua Boat Sheds, Botanical

Gardens and the Victoria clock tower. Post the tour, late evening drive to Christchurch airport where you will handover the car and head for your flight home with a bag full of memories.

The Skift India Newsletter is your go-to platform for all news related to travel, tourism, airlines, and hospitality in India.

The travel and tourism industry in India is projected to generate revenue of nearly $24 billion in 2024, according to industry promotions body India Brand Equity Foundation. At an estimated annual growth rate of 9.6% between 2024 and 2028, the industry is also expected to reach a market volume of $34.25 billion by 2028.

Revenue trend in India: In 2023, the tourism industry recorded a revenue of about $20 billion, according to Statista . Hotels accounted for the largest share of revenue last year. This year, however, this is expected to shift and package holidays are likely to be the biggest revenue generator in 2024. According to an ANI report , package holidays market is expected to reach 65 million travelers by 2028.

India’s efforts to boost tourism: The country has been focusing on boosting tourism, and has announced 100% foreign direct investment in tourism-related ventures in order to facilitate growth of the sector. Efforts are also being made to preserve heritage sites in India while creating quality tourism infrastructure to enhance visitor experience.

The road, rail, and air transportation infrastructure is also being improved. New highways, indigenous superfast trains , and regional airports are being concurrently developed across the country to make travel more convenient and inland destinations more accessible.

Radisson Opens First Hotel in Odisha

Radisson Hotel Group has announced the opening of Pramod Lands End Resort, a member of Radisson Individuals in Gopalpur, Odisha. The 100-room resort marks the group’s entry into Odisha. Radisson’s newly appointed area senior vice president for South Asia Nikhil Sharma said that Gopalpur has untapped tourism potential, and the company’s move to open a property in the location is part of its focus on tier 2 and 3 cities in India.

Radisson has more than 160 operational and developing hotels, with over 50% of its portfolio located in tier 2 and 3 markets. In 2023, the company signed 21 properties , and is especially focusing on key spiritual destinations and inland locations to gain from the first-mover advantage.

Fly91 Expands Network to Agatti, Jalgaon

India’s newest airline Fly91 is set to add two more destinations to its network this week, taking its operations to six destinations. Starting Thursday, the airline will fly between Goa and Agatti, Lakshadweep. It will also commence flights between Goa, Jalgaon and Hyderabad on April 18.

Delhi Airport’s Conversion of Terminal T2 to All-International Delayed Till Next Year

The conversion of Delhi airport’s terminal T2 into an all-international terminal is delayed till April 2025, according to a Times of India report . The airport has three terminals of which T1 and T2 are fully domestic, while T3 handles domestic as well as international traffic. With T1 undergoing an expansion to double its capacity to 40 million passengers, the airport operators decided to convert T2 into an all-international terminal temporarily to better handle international traffic.

The initial plan was to begin the conversion of the terminal in July or August this year , after the expansion of domestic terminal T1 becomes operational in June. This would close T2 for a few months. However, the authorities have now decided to postpone the conversion work until after winter, as they want all terminals to be operational during the season. This is to avoid a repeat of winter last year when a key low-visibility runway was shut for repairs during the foggy season and led to delays.
