Carnival Breeze Itineraries

Carnival breeze review, review of carnival breeze.

The 2012-built Carnival Breeze cruise ship is the 3rd Dream-class vessel in the CCL-Carnival fleet, together with Carnival Dream (September 2009), Carnival Magic (May 2011) as well as Costa Diadema (2014).

The vessel (IMO number 9555723) is currently Panama- flagged (MMSI 354842000) and registered in Colon .

History - construction and ownership

Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) is a US shipping company, trademarked brand and subsidiary of Carnival Corporation (shipowner). CCL was founded in 1972 as an independent company by Ted Arison (1924-1999, co-founder of NCL Norwegian ).

CCL has the Corporation's largest fleet as number of vessels and GT-tonnage (ship sizes/volumes and passenger capacities). In 2023, CCL had ~9% (by revenue) and ~19% (passengers) share of the cruise industry's worldwide market. In 2024, the parent company (Carnival Corporation) had ~51% stake in the US$64+ billion industry.

Carnival Breeze cruise ship

The 3690-passenger ship Carnival Breeze was launched on June 3, 2012. This ship introduced the line's first complete "Fun Ship 2.0" concept. It is a fleetwide initiative concentrated on food, drink, and amusement, allowing Carnival cruise passengers to tour, taste and laugh their way through new onboard places. Breeze is the first Fun Ship in decades that was not constructed by Joe Farcus - the man that dreamed in neon and polished marble. Much of what is found on the Carnival ships Dream and Magic is on the Breeze too.

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Breeze staterooms (1845 total) include 54 Suites, 851 Balcony, 227 Oceanview and 713 Iside cabins, in all 34 grades. Most staterooms are sized 170-185 ft2 / 16-17 m2. Most cabin balconies are sized 35-45 ft2 / 3-4 m2. Deluxe Oceanviews are with two separate washrooms and advertised as "Family cabins" having max capacity 5 passengers. Cove Balcony (located beneath the lifeboats on Deck 2) have partially enclosed verandas.

CCL Breeze ship also has 368 connecting ("Family" cabins), 79 "Cloud 9 Spa", 35 wheelchair-accessible, and "Cove Balcony" cabins (located on Deck 2/by the lifeboats). The largest are the Grand Suites (345 ft2 / 32 m2 plus 85 ft2 / 8 m2 terrace) with max occupancy 4 passengers.

The boat has 14 decks , of which 9 are with cabins.

Pricing is a la carte, from 1 dollar for appetizersized pieces to 15 dollars for sushi for a couple.

Beach Pool

POOL DAY! Whether today's the day for a bit of a dip, a dash of splash or even some swimming — or just a serious poolside lounging session — your Carnival cruise has just the pool for you. In fact, pools are so important to a great cruise that we designed many of our ships to have two of them. At an aft pool you'll catch a breeze, plus a sea view featuring the ship's wake, while midship pools have a grand view of a different kind: the big screen's right there for the viewing. And no matter which you find yourself chilling in, the sunbeams are yours for the soaking.

Camp Ocean

At Camp Ocean, 2–11 year-olds stay busy, keep active and have fun as they enjoy all new ocean-themed activities and entertainment made for kids. We put campers into supervised, age-based groups and give each a cool marine-life label that’s sure to raise the sails on camaraderie at sea. The littlest little ones — ages 2 to 5 —join the Penguin colony and engage in activities like Musical Icebergs and Ocean Bingo… even learning a thing or two about buoyancy! The little-biggers, 6 to 8, are the way-cool Stingrays, who might be found enjoying Pirate Game Night, making sea salt art or even designing their own aquarium. The big fish are the Sharks — ages 9 to 11 — who really sink their teeth into playing Marine Life Trivia, creating a giant ocean mural, and scoring big with games and sports competitions. Our counselors, each with education or childcare experience, are there to make sure everyone in these small groups has an amazing time.

Then join the sing-along for a hand-clapping, foot-tapping, finger-snapping good time. Don't feel like flexing your vocal cords? No worries. Shy songbirds are welcome here, too. And since it's open from early evening to late at night, it's the perfect spot for a before-dinner drink or singing 'til the wee hours of the evening.

After all, if you’re going to jog, you’d be hard-pressed to find a place to do it with a more scenic view, or a more refreshing breeze — both of these are available in abundance when you go for an open-air jog on the upper-deck. Jogging tracks are available on all Carnival ships, and are even padded for long-distance comfort.

Mini golf

Ah, imagine a perfect day out on the links, the golfer's zen of the ball, the hole and nothing in between but well-manicured fairway... plus one cactus, a treasure chest... and wait, is that a windmill in the way? Just who designed this course anyway? Whoever it was, they had one thing in mind — maximum fun for mini-golfers, big and small! That's precisely why you'll find a course on every Carnival ship, where you can hit the holes and take in everything you’d expect, like the sights and the sounds... plus the seagulls.

Ropes course

Ropes course

An awesome ropes course, however, will let you do all that with a cool sea breeze and a view to match! Not sure that navigating a high-up-there challenge is for you? Did we mention that on SkyCourse you'll be safely strapped in, emboldening you to take on the kinds of challenges you may not normally feel up to? Here everyone — even kids — become thrill-seekers, testing their ability to make their way around the course.

Fitness center

Fitness center

We have some bad news for you — your ship has a gym. In other words, there’s no excuse for leaving your fitness routine back on land. That’s great news, however, for your body, which will definitely benefit from all the extra energy that vacationing pumps directly into you. And let’s not forget the extra time you’ll have, since you won’t be waking up and spending most of the day at the office or anything like that. If those were some of your go-to excuses, we’re sorry, but we all know this is important. Why not treat yourself to some of our fitness classes — you might even have a little fun while you do something great for yourself!

Sauna

On a Carnival cruise, the vast and beautiful sea is all around you. You can do all the looking you want from the ship, but sorry — no touching allowed. (We’re sure you’ll understand.) That’s what the thalassotherapy pool at the onboard Cloud 9 Spa is for! Get your sea-water fix and soak completely in it, easily absorbing all the relaxing, rejuvenating benefits of the trace elements and vitamins you’ll find in nature. Oh, and here’s one thing you’ll only find in our special pool: water jets that massage and invigorate. Mother Nature’s great, but she can’t do that.

The salon

A trip to the salon is an opportunity to relax, to chat with others, to focus on yourself. It’s about more than just getting your hair or nails done… but it’s definitely about getting your hair or nails done! Even though you’re on vacation, you won’t have to settle for anything less than the salon style you’re used to back on land. And these good looks go beyond the usual — we even offer services like teeth whitening… great for taking those ‘I’m on vacation and I’m looking great!’ smiles to the next level.

Breeze Atrium

Breeze Atrium

Decks: 4 Mezzanine 5 Promenade 6 7 8 9 10 Lido 11

Here’s where you come in! The Atrium — the entrance to the ship and to vacation itself — is your first impression of all the fun to come. We make sure that this, the very heart of the ship, screams “welcome aboard the fun!” With multi-level panoramic views, the Atrium gives you the perfect place to enjoy all the hustle and bustle. There’s always music playing here, whether it’s a live band or a party-pumping DJ, plus enjoy events throughout the day or a drink at the bar, anytime. This 360-degree funspot is also home to the Guest Services desk, the place you go if you have questions for one of our certified fun experts… about just about anything that’s on your mind.

ince photos are a big part of how you and your crew will remember your cruise, you can rely on Carnival’s photo-pros to bring your fun side into focus — lighting and background, shutter speed and aperture know-how goes into every shot they take. You’ll find our pros all over the ship: when you’re gathered around the dining room table, as you step off the ship at your destination… and plenty of times in between. You’ll even find creative and fun backdrops around the ship that you can casually stop by and do a quick pose in front of!

Circle C

What does the “C” in Circle “C” stand for? Well, “chill,” “connect” and “cool,” just to name a few. It’s where young teens ages 12 to 14 go to hang out, meet new friends, and enjoy some pretty awesome activities like dance parties, games, outdoor movies and more, in the special Circle “C” area or around the ship. It’s all supervised by friendly and fun-loving counselors who want your young teens to have the best vacation ever.

Club O2

Your parents deserve a nice vacation… but then again, so do you. So let’s let them go do their thing while you do yours. Where to? Club O2. Hang out doing stuff like watching movies, listening to music from this decade, playing sports and video games, joining karaoke jam sessions… maybe even attending Carnival’s version of prom, all with other high schoolers ages 15 to 17.

Carnival Breeze

cruise ship carnival breeze

Handout / Handout / Getty Images

The 3,690-passenger, 130,000-ton Carnival Breeze was launched in June 2012 by Carnival Cruise Lines. As one of the largest ships in Carnival's fleet, the Carnival Breeze is sure to offer something fun for everyone.

The ship offers many of the most popular venues and attractions from its sister ships, the Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic , and is a Caribbean cruise departing from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, through most of 2020. Beginning November 2020 Carnival Breeze will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Cruises range from six to nine days, and possible ports of call include Cozumel, Belize, Grand Turk, Aruba, Nassau, and various other Caribbean destinations, depending on the itinerary you choose.

Dining and Cuisine

TripSavvy / Linda Garrison

Every cruise traveler should be able to find the type of food they are craving when sailing on the Carnival Breeze.

Many of the onboard restaurants are included with cruise reservations, including burgers or barbeque at two restaurants by renowned chef Guy Fieri, Tex-Mex at the BlueIguana Cantina, pizzas at Pizza Pirate, Asian flavors at Mongolian Wok, daily brunch, and a sandwich deli.

The ship does have a few premium dining options if you're seeking a special night out. Bonsai Sushi, the first full-service sushi bar on a Carnival ship, serves freshly prepared sushi onboard, and you really can't beat fresh fish when you're already at sea. The Coffee Bar is a gourmet coffee shop with specialty coffees and pastries. While there is a free pasta bar onboard, Cucina del Capitano serves higher-end Italian meals—and the servings are huge. Finally, the Steakhouse restaurant on the Carnival Breeze is one of the more expensive options, but the food is delicious and expertly prepared.

Cabins and Suites

The 719 interior staterooms are the smallest (and least expensive) on the ship, measuring 185 square feet. For those looking for something larger and more luxurious, the Carnival Breeze has 54 suites, the largest being the Grand Penthouse Suites. Most travelers on the ship choose one of the 851 Carnival Breeze balcony cabins or one of the 221 oceanview cabins without a balcony.

Carnival has added some innovative cabin categories to this class of ship. Families enjoy the Deluxe Oceanview cabins, which sleep five and have two baths. Travelers who like to be closer to the water might request a Cove Balcony cabin. These cabins are identical to the standard balcony cabin on the inside, but are lower on deck two. The covered balcony is partially enclosed, making it cozier and private. Guests in the suites adjacent to the Cloud 9 spa enjoy unlimited access to the spa, priority spa appointments, and complimentary fitness classes.

Cloud 9 Spa and Fitness Center

The Carnival Breeze Cloud 9 Spa is a whopping 22,770 square feet and spans two decks forward.

In addition to the 21 massage and other private treatment rooms, the Cloud 9 Spa has a thermal suite that is much like a traditional Turkish bath. It features heated chaise lounges, a tropical shower, and an unbeatable view. The thalassotherapy pool with its bubbling waters is relaxing and therapeutic. Couples might want to request one of the two VIP couples rooms that come complete with their own private whirlpool.

Guests are able to enjoy a range of additional spa features, such as a full salon, men's barber, acupuncture, facials, and medi-spa treatments such as Botox.

The fitness center has the latest cardio- and weight-training equipment catering to all fitness levels. The fitness center serves as the location for a wide range of instructor-led exercise classes including free classes in stretching, toning, and conditioning. The spa also has for-fee classes in yoga, Pilates, spinning, and TRX Rip Trainer.

Entertainment

In addition to being the first ship to feature all of the entertainment offerings that are part of the line's "Fun Ship 2.0" enhancement initiative, the Carnival Breeze is the first to debut the new Thrill Theater , an interactive, multi-dimensional experience that makes guests feel as if they are part of the movie.

It's also the first ship to offer Playlist Productions, high-tech production shows only 30 minutes long that combine captivating live performances with LED staging and special effects.

Guests can also choose a competitive entertainment option. Hasbro, The Game Show puts guests right in the middle of their favorite Hasbro games, such as Yahtzee Bowling, Connect 4 Basketball, and Operation Sam Dunk. Lip Sync Battle, based on the popular television show, lets guests compete to be the lip-syncing champion of the ship.

The Carnival Breeze offers the Punchliner Comedy Club. Professional comics will leave you in stitches, but make sure you know whether the show you're attending is family-friendly or adults-only.

Onboard Activities for Adults

Adults sailing on the Carnival Breeze can cruise the dozen or so bars, or hit the casino. Or, they can stretch out on one of the comfortable loungers or hammocks at Serenity, the adults-only outdoor deck area, or catch an adults-only show at the Punchliner Comedy Club, which is held in the aft, 400-seat Limelight Lounge. Sports fans appreciate the Casino Bar, with its multiple screens showing worldwide sporting events.

On a mega-ship like the Carnival Breeze, adult couples looking for a romantic getaway sometimes forget that they can find quiet spots. Strolling the decks at night under the moon and feeling the sea breeze is also a good way to have some romantic time on the ship. Parents traveling with kids don't need to forgo time alone, either: They can leave the kids for a few hours with Camp Carnival's Night Owls program, which offers a host of late-night activities with movies, games, and snacks.

Just for Kids

The Carnival Breeze has more than 19,000 total square feet of space catering to children and teenagers. This space includes indoor and outdoor play areas, a suspended ropes course, an outdoor EA Sports gaming system, miniature golf, and a sprawling aqua park housing the cruise line's longest waterslide.

Carnival Breeze's kid-friendly amenities include supervised programs for three age groups: Camp Ocean (ages 2-11), Circle "C" (ages 12-14), and Club O2 (ages 15-17). Each youth facility offers a full schedule of activities throughout the cruise overseen and organized by a full staff.

On specific nights, special late-night parties are offered between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. for different age groups, with dancing, fun snacks, giveaways, movies, and more.

Outdoor Decks and Exterior Common Areas

With wide expanses of deck space, two outdoor swimming pools, and several hot tubs, the Carnival Breeze offers outdoor fun for all tastes.

Kids and adults love WaterWorks, the onboard water park with two waterslides and dozens of other ways to get wet. SportSquare, the outdoor recreation area, offers numerous games and even has a ropes course. Those who like to get their fitness routine outdoors can use the jogging track or the exercise equipment.

Harrowing Footage Shows a Massive Wave Slamming into a Cruise Ship

Posted: June 26, 2024 | Last updated: June 26, 2024

<p>The distinct characteristic of Chicama’s waves lies not in their towering height but in their unparalleled length. Under optimal conditions, the wave unfurls for a staggering distance of 1.9 miles, or approximately 3 kilometers. The uniqueness of Chicama’s surf was thought to have initially been brought to light in 1965 when Chuck Shipman, a Hawaiian surfer, spotted the mesmerizing wave while flying over the coastal area.</p> <p>Chicama’s beach presents a tranquil expanse of sandy shoreline, its charm enriched by the sight of endless waves rolling in from the Pacific. While modest, the town offers a laid-back atmosphere that immerses visitors in the local culture.</p> <p>Off the waves, visitors can explore the nearby city of Trujillo, known for its vibrant colonial architecture and ancient archaeological sites. Additionally, the warm and welcoming local community can provide a taste of authentic Peruvian cuisine or guide visitors to hidden spots where they can take in the majestic beauty of the coastal landscape. With its spectacular surf and rich cultural backdrop, Chicama offers a unique and memorable getaway for surfers and travelers alike.</p><p>Sharks, lions, alligators, and more! Hold on Tight!

There seems to be an endless amount of choices when it comes to where you could take a holiday. People from all over the world decide to spend their vacations aboard cruise ships. With amenities like built-in pools, casinos, themed parties, and plenty of cocktails, it’s clear why many individuals  opt for a cruise.

If there’s one thing that’s true, it’s that the sea has a mind of its own. Both passengers and crew got a taste of how powerful the  ocean  is during a trip on a ship that is now called the Sea Princess.

What was called the Adonia, the ship in this video was first launched into the water in September of 2000. It was nearly 600 feet long, weighed over 30,000 tons, and could hold just under 800 souls, including the crew.

<p>Like most natural disasters, tsunamis are beyond human control. Luckily, you can implement a few precautions to minimize <a href="http://courses.washington.edu/larescue/precedents/prevention.htm#:~:text=Tsunamis%2C%20like%20most%20natural%20disasters,and%20to%20individuals%20and%20communities.">the effects of a tsunami</a>. First, it's important to have strong community organizations, thoughtful building and site strategies (try to avoid inundation areas), and a warning system. Tsunamis often become hazardous when they get closer to land because as the current intensifies, the wavelength decreases, and the height of the waves increases.</p><p>Sharks, lions, alligators, and more! A Terrifying Sight

As you'll see in the footage, one person can be seen looking out of the massive windows on the bridge as waves crash into the ship. They are watching as a storm is taking over and someone can be heard saying, “Here we go,” as the ship dips down.

<p><a href="https://a-z-animals.com/blog/how-deep-is-the-atlantic-ocean/?utm_campaign=feed&utm_source=rss_feed&utm_medium=in_content&utm_content=1345277">The Atlantic Ocean</a> is the youngest among the five oceans and came into existence approximately 150 million years ago. This formation was a result of the fracture of the colossal supercontinent, Pangaea. Today, the Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest ocean, covering a fifth of Earth's surface and holding 29% of our planet's water.</p> <p>Sharks had been ruling Earth's waters for a striking 250 million years before the Atlantic began to take shape. This thought-provoking fact emphasizes that sharks were once navigating a very different oceanic landscape, reinforcing their remarkable adaptability and survival skills.</p><p>Sharks, lions, alligators, and more! A Moment of Fright

Seconds later, the camera shakes as an enormous wave slams into the cruise ship, appearing to make the individual in view topple to the floor before everything goes black. A comment on the footage reads as follows:

“That was a terrifying jumpscare that I didn’t see coming.”

With another person stating why it seemingly came out of nowhere. They say, “ Sometimes you pass over a pretty big wave gracefully. Then you realize that now you’re under a bigger wave.”

<p>While the footage you'll see at the end of this post might make you seasick, it isn’t the largest wave to hit a cruise ship. While the footage you'll see at the end of this post might make you seasick, it isn’t the largest wave to hit a cruise ship. The cruise ships MS Bremen and MS Caledonian Star, both with Bahamian registrations, were both struck by a rogue wave in the South Atlantic Ocean in 2001.

Is It Normal for a Cruise Ship to be Hit by a Massive Wave?

As we discussed earlier, rogue waves (also called monster waves or freak waves), do occur in oceans and can threaten any vessel. However, documented encounters with them are rare. Rogue waves are created when different wave systems converge, resulting in a dramatically high wave.

<p>Ships can receive damage from rogue waves like broken windows, damage to the outer decks, and can cause injuries to crew members or passengers. In worse cases, structural damage or flooding can occur. However, modern ships are designed to deal with these worst-case scenarios, so it’s very uncommon for a ship to be sunk by a rogue wave.</p><p>Sharks, lions, alligators, and more! The Best New Cruise Ships

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas will be the world's biggest new cruise ship.

Cruising is one of the fastest growing sectors of tourism, with passenger numbers projected to reach 37.2 million by 2025, according to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Cruise lines are responding to this growth by building new (and often, larger) vessels with all the bells and whistles, including technological advancements that are more environmentally friendly and create the capability to use alternative fuels.

U.S. News has compiled this roundup of new cruise ships that have just set sail or are scheduled to launch later in 2023 and in 2024, plus a preview of new ships coming in 2025 and beyond. The list includes everything from expedition and luxury yacht-style vessels to reimagined ships and megaships – plus the debut of a brand-new cruise line.

How the cheapest interior and balcony cabins on Carnival's new cruise ship compare — and why the pricier one is worth it

  • Carnival's new Carnival Firenze  cruise ship set sail in late April.
  • Its interior cabins are $160 cheaper per person than the ones with balconies.
  • The cramped balcony stateroom is worth the additional cost.

Insider Today

I finally realized that my parents are, in fact, always right. Unfortunately, learning my lesson took a stint in a windowless cabin on a Carnival cruise .

In mid-May, I found myself stuck on a four-night Carnival Firenze cruise with my family. I was there for work — they were there to enjoy the sun. And that they did, as they luxuriated in a cabin with a balcony while I was stuck in a drab, windowless dungeon.

Never again will I think of my parents as 'snobby' for wanting the more expensive accommodation (sorry, Mom and Dad).

My parents, occasional cruisers, have always preferred staterooms with balconies. After my stint in the ship's interior accommodation, I now understand why balconies are the most popular cabin category.

For Firenze's cheapest itinerary in 2024 — a four-night roundtrip voyage from Long Beach, California, to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico — a dual-occupancy interior cabin starts at $359 per person.

Ones with balconies command a minimum of $519 per person.

That's a $160 difference — and well worth the extra cash.

Carnival Firenze, the company’s newest vessel, set sail in April.

But that doesn't mean it's a brand-new ship.

Firenze had initially joined the fleet of another Carnival Corp brand , Costa Cruises, in 2020 with plans to launch in China — that is, until the COVID-19 pandemic.

Carnival Cruise Line then acquired Firenze and its sister ship, Venezia, in 2022 to grow its US footprint amid "strong interest in people wanting to sail with us," a Carnival spokesperson told Business Insider.

But my interior cabin looked more like an ancient motel than a four-year-old ship.

The spokesperson said Firenze underwent a two-month refresh to "install the Carnival Fun Italian Style Concept."

This Italianized vision came as a photo of Florence, Italy, behind my bed, half covered by pillows. It's for the best — the print looked misplaced, unnecessary, and tacky.

At least it matched the color palette of the equally ugly carpet.

The furniture was functional, but that doesn’t mean it was pretty.

The gray chaise clashed with the bafflingly ugly yellow and red carpet, while the faux marble and wood side table looked as cheap as my fare.

Thankfully, I have no gripes about the desk and closet. Both were sizable and looked like ones I've seen on more expensive and modern cruise ships.

'Expensive' and 'modern' could be the antithesis of my bathroom. It was a total eyesore.

The yellow and red tiles would've been better suited in a McDonald's. But no design crime was bigger than the lack of designated storage units.

The only shelving came preoccupied with tissue boxes and toilet paper rolls, an unnecessary amenity given that my cabin attendant cleaned and restocked my room daily. I would've rather had one less spare toilet paper roll if that meant I could keep my skincare products inside the bathroom instead of out on the desk.

On the bright side, the bathroom and bedroom felt surprisingly spacious for 150 square feet.

Unbeknownst to me, Carnival had put me in one of the ship's accessible, wheelchair-friendly accommodations. As a person without physical disabilities, this meant the shower — a curtain surrounding floor drains — was one of the largest I've had at sea.

Back in the living room, I could've starfished on the floor without hitting any furniture.

Complaints about its appearance aside, the room was large and almost perfectly functional — easily worth its $90-a-night price tag.

But without any natural light, the dated, dark, and mismatched furniture made my cabin look more like a drab hospital room.

Think I'm being dramatic? One look at my parent's balcony cabin will prove my point.

Some of the furniture in my dungeon and their breezy hotel room at sea looked identical.

But the light-filled room and less hideous carpet made the chaise and side table feel more at home.

Unfortunately, nothing could've saved the still misplaced-looking photo of Italy.

However, no amount of natural light could've saved the stateroom from feeling cramped.

The cabin is 72 square feet larger than my interior one. But don't expect to starfish here: The narrow layout and furniture didn't leave much room to spare.

Our four-person family could comfortably lounge in my interior room. Four people inside the balcony cabin required flexible maneuvering around each other and the furniture.

The tiny bathroom made the one in my interior accommodation feel palatial.

Yet, despite being much smaller, the extra shelving — noticeably deprived of excess paper products — made this bathroom more functional.

But the tight layout is worth it for the private outdoor space and light.

The ocean breeze and view provided the perfect backdrop for my parent's peaceful early mornings.

Meanwhile, my early mornings were spent in a dingy, liminal space-like bedroom, never fully sure of the exact time. I felt like a gremlin who lived in perpetual darkness, only reminded that the sun had, in fact, risen when I stopped by my family's bright cabin.

Seeing my mom lounge around with the balcony door cracked open, reading some documents without turning the lights on, was enviable.

A quiet outdoor space is especially important on a ship like Carnival Firenze.

The vessel is loud and rowdy, as is expected of a Carnival cruise. I struggled to find a quiet, relaxing lounge that wasn't overwhelmed by screaming children, screaming adults, or poorly mixed music.

Our cabins were the only truly quiet spaces on the ship. And I'd much rather read a book on a balcony with ocean views than in a dreary, dark interior stateroom.

I should probably add an asterisk next to 'truly quiet spaces.'

The interior and balcony accommodations did share one terrible similarity: ultra-thin walls.

Rowdy passersby could be heard clearly from inside both rooms. The neighbors' TV and late-night conversations constantly woke my dad up. (Maybe my interior cabin wasn't so bad after all.)

But, like I said, I'd trade a gloomy stateroom for a balcony and the chance to eavesdrop on my neighbors.

As usual, my parent's decision to book a balcony instead of an interior cabin was the way to go.

Unless you're on an ultra-strict budget, it'll be worth the additional cost. A little sun and fresh air can go a long way for your sanity, especially on a ship where silence and peace are an upcharged luxury.
