ABOUT LIZZO

A 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and so much more, Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music and culture. 2019’s now-classic, RIAA platinum certified debut album,  CUZ I LOVE YOU , bowed at #4 on the Billboard 200, fueled in part by such history-making hits as the platinum certified “Tempo (Feat. Missy Elliott),” the 2x platinum “Juice,” the 4x platinum “Good As Hell,” and the 7x platinum “Truth Hurts.” The latter of which ascended to #1 on  Billboard ’s “Hot 100,” affirming Lizzo as only the third female rapper to top the chart without a featured artist, as well as the first black solo female R&B singer to claim the top spot since 2012. “Truth Hurts” dominated the chart for seven weeks, further making history as the longest running #1 by a solo female rap artist ever. Named by Rolling Stone as one of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time,” “Truth Hurts” went on to earn a 2020 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Pop Solo Performance,” with  CUZ I LOVE YOU (DELUXE)  receiving that year’s GRAMMY® for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” and “Jerome” earning “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”

Crowned 2019’s “Entertainer of the Year” by both  TIME  and  Entertainment Weekly , Lizzo has adorned the covers of countless publications around the globe, spanning  Rolling Stone ,  Billboard ,  Elle ,  British Vogue , and many more. Among her many unforgettable TV appearances, Lizzo has lit up the stage at the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the BET Awards,  Saturday Night Live , and an epic opening performance at the GRAMMYs, to name just a few. Expanding her imprint and influence across media, Lizzo lent her voice to the 2019 animated film, UglyDolls , and joined Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B in the all-star cast of that same year’s critically acclaimed  Hustlers .

Lizzo maintained this unstoppable momentum on 2021’s RIAA gold certified “ Rumors (Feat. Cardi B) ” and is now set to create her biggest, boldest, and brightest revolution thus far with her massively anticipated second full-length offering  SPECIAL  for Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records, due July 15 th .

Lizzo Announces Headlining 'Special' Tour That'll Kick Off This Fall: 'So Excited'

Lizzo's The Special Tour will begin in September and wrap in November

lizzo tour twitter

It's about damn time Lizzo headed back on tour!

The Grammy-winning singer, 33, announced a lengthy North American string of dates called The Special Tour, which will kick off in September and go through November.

"3 years since my last tour… and I'm finally coming back to YOU! So excited to announce the SPECIAL TOUR '22," she wrote on Twitter Monday.

Lizzo, who recently released the single "About Damn Time," will be joined by rapper Latto, and will kick things off in Sunrise, Florida on Sept. 23. After numerous stops, including New York City's Madison Square Garden, the star will conclude the tour in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum on Nov. 18.

The singer has enjoyed a busy 2022 already, and recently announced that her upcoming album Special will be out on July 15.

"I think that the music really is going to speak for itself. I'm writing songs about love from every direction, and I hope that I can turn a little bit of the fear that's been running rampant in this world, energetically into love," she previously told Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1.

"That's the point. I had a lot of fear, and I had to do the work on myself, and this music is some of that work in turning that fear into love," Lizzo continued. "I hope that when people listen to this album, it makes their day just a little bit better, a little bit more filled with love."

Lizzo also pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live as host and musical guest earlier this month, and joined Harry Styles onstage during his headlining set at Coachella in a surprise appearance on Friday.

After crushing a version of the Gloria Gaynor classic "I Will Survive" (while wearing matching feather jackets), Lizzo joined the star for a version of One Direction's hit "What Makes You Beautiful."

The star opened up about her bustling career for PEOPLE's March cover story sharing: "I deserve the spotlight. I deserve the attention. I'm talented, I'm young, I'm hot. You know? And I've worked hard."

Tickets will be onsale to the public on Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. local time.

Lizzo Is Not Quitting Music, Says Viral ‘I Quit’ Statement Was Only About Not ‘Giving Any Negative Energy Attention’

Lizzo is not quitting music or social media. Days after the Grammy winner stirred up headlines for posting “I quit” on social media, she took to Instagram to clarify exactly what she meant and assure fans that she still plans to release new music in the future.

“I wanted to make this video because I just need to clarify when I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention,” Lizzo said in a video posted to Instagram. “What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting to people. And I know I’m not alone. In no way shape or form am I the only person experiencing that negative voice that’s louder than the positive.”

In her original message posted March 30, Lizzo wrote that she was “getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.” She said all she wants “is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views,” she added. “Being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look … my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”

Some media outlets interpreted Lizzo’s statement as her quitting music and/or social media, but that is apparently not the case.

Lizzo’s original “I quit” post arrived amid several lawsuits filed against the singer last year. Three of her backup dancers accused her of creating a hostile work environment, allegations that Lizzo has denied. Lizzo filed a motion to dismiss her dancers’ lawsuit late last year, but a judge is allowing the case to move to trial.

Lizzo ‘s got some tips that’ll leave you feeling good as hell this summer. In a satirical video posted on Instagram Tuesday (April 9), the 35-year-old hitmaker hilariously demonstrates three of her best tips for building a perfect “bod” ahead of next season — no gym membership required.

The “Truth Hurts” singer-rapper starts the video in a colorful swimsuit, taking a stroll on a treadmill. “Here’s three exercises to help you get that summer bod,” she tells the camera after serving up a sassy hair flip.

“Remember to hydrate excessively,” she says next, doing a bicep curl with a bottle of white wine.

“And remember,” she adds, introducing her third tip while lounging in the sun. “You can never be too extra.”

“Cus EVERY D–N BODY is a Summer Body in @yitty,” she added in her caption, tagging her own shapewear company.

The post comes less than two weeks after the Grammy winner made headlines for ambiguously declaring “I quit” in a message on Instagram, leading some to assume that she was stepping away from the music industry in light of her recent legal turmoil with a group of her former backup dancers. A few days later, however, Lizzo once again took to social media to clarify her remarks , telling followers in a video: “When I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention.”

“What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people,” she’d added. “I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive … I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me.”

Lizzo Says She Is Not Leaving Music Industry After ‘I Quit’ Post

Lizzo clarified that she was not quitting music after writing on Instagram last week that she was “starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

By Amanda Holpuch

Lizzo, the Grammy Award-winning singer, clarified on Tuesday that she was not quitting the music industry, days after her social media post saying “I QUIT” led some fans to speculate that she was ending her music career.

In a video posted on social media, Lizzo said she was not leaving the music business and instead was quitting “giving any negative energy attention.”

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people, cause I know I’m not alone,” she said in the video. “In no way shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.”

She continued: “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves, and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.”

Speculation that Lizzo was leaving the industry arose after she posted a message on Instagram on March 30 that ended with the words: “I QUIT.”

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” she wrote in the initial post. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Lizzo has won four Grammy Awards and rose to fame with hits including “Truth Hurts,” “ About Damn Time ” and other feel-good songs that promoted self-love. She built on her success by launching the shapewear line Yitty in 2022, and creating a reality television show on Amazon Prime Video, “ Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls ,” which aired the same year. On the show, dancers competed to back her up onstage.

These ventures have been clouded by criticism, including over a perceived contradiction between her promotion of body positivity and sale of shapewear, while lawsuits were filed last year accusing her of creating a hostile work environment on tour.

Three of her former dancers, including two who competed on the television show, filed a lawsuit in August 2023 accusing Lizzo of creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo denied the allegations . In February , a judge dismissed some of the claims, but allowed the case to move to trial.

In September 2023 , a former wardrobe designer who had worked briefly on Lizzo’s 2023 tour before being dismissed filed a lawsuit asserting that the tour’s wardrobe manager had created a hostile work environment, which tour management and Lizzo had failed to address. A spokesman for Lizzo called the suit an “absurd publicity stunt,” and her lawyers asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit in December .

The response to Lizzo’s “I QUIT” statement was not the first time she has been the subject of speculation that she might leave the industry. In 2023 , she made her Twitter account private several times, and said it was because of comments people made about her weight.

Lizzo said she isn’t letting critics and negativity get in the way of pursing “the joy of my life”: creating music and sharing it with listeners.

The “Truth Hurts” and “Rumors” singer, 35, reassured fans that her music is here to stay despite declaring in an Instagram statement last week, “I QUIT.” The Grammy winner, facing a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and a hostile work environment, clarified her stance in a brief video shared Tuesday afternoon.

“I wanna make this video because I just need to clarify: When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy, attention,” said the singer, who was wearing a plunging electric blue bodysuit from her Yitty shapewear line.

Lizzo’s brand was built on empowerment and acceptance. Her accusers tell another story

Lizzo is facing a lawsuit from former backup dancers that threatens to undo her hard-won image as a beacon of empowerment and self-acceptance.

Aug. 22, 2023

Lizzo (birth name Melissa Viviane Jefferson) said she wants to continue making music in hopes of motivating others to also move past negativity. Before three former dancers sued the singer in August 2023, Lizzo built her empire on self-empowerment and positivity, releasing feel-good songs such as “Juice” and “Good as Hell.”

Lizzo said on Tuesday that it’s her goal to give listeners the confidence to “stand up for themselves” and “win” against critics and their opinions.

“With that being said, I’m going to keep moving forward. I’m going to keep being me,” she said, before thanking fans for their support.

In late March, the “Boys” musician announced that she was done dealing with criticism from “everyone in my life and on the internet.” She wrote, “I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

A trio of Lizzo’s former dancers are accusing the singer and her touring team of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, among other allegations.

Aug. 1, 2023

She took aim at unnamed people allegedly lying about the singer, “disrespecting my name” and making her appearance the “butt of the joke every single time.”

“I didn’t sign up for this s—. I QUIT,” she concluded her statement. At the time, she did not explicitly say she was leaving music all together.

The March missive wasn’t the first time the singer-flutist seemingly threatened to quit the music industry over negativity. In June 2023, the singer said in a series of since-deleted tweets that she was considering leaving music behind after facing body-shaming online.

After sharing her “I QUIT” declaration, Lizzo was met with both support and criticism. In the comments, stars such as Eric André, Paris Hilton and Letoya Luckett sent their love to the singer. Actor Holly Robinson Peete encouraged the singer to keep at her career and “find tools and practices to shut out the noise.”

The attorney for the three dancers taking Lizzo to court, however, was far less supportive.

“It’s a joke that Lizzo would say she is being bullied by the internet when she should instead be taking an honest look at herself,” attorney Ron Zambrano said in a statement shared with The Times on Monday. “Her latest post is just another outburst seeking attention and trying to deflect from her own failings as she continues to blame everyone else for the predicament she is in.”

Zambrano’s statement questioned the credibility of Lizzo’s “I QUIT” statement — likening it to a tantrum — and urged the singer to “accept responsibility for her actions.”

The statement added: “She can make all of this go away simply by seizing the opportunity here to set an example, own up to her mistakes, pay what’s due to those she’s wronged and work on becoming a better person.”

Lizzo hits back at online critics: “i’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it”.

The 35-year-old unloaded in an emotional post, saying that she's found herself up against "lies being told about me for clout and views" and being the butt of the joke "every single time because of how I look."

Lizzo

Lizzo is done with online haters.

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” the Emmy- and Grammy-winning artist wrote in an Instagram post shared Friday afternoon. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Friday’s post comes hours after Lizzo faced criticism for performing at a star-studded fundraiser for President Joe Biden that featured Barack Obama and Bill Clinton in conversation with Biden and Stephen Colbert, as well as appearances by Mindy Kaling, Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. According to The Associated Press , the event raised $26 million.

Attorneys for Lizzo’s former dancers, who have accused her of sexual harassment and other workplace grievances, blasted her participation in the event. “It’s shameful that Lizzo would be chosen to headline an event like this amid such egregious allegations,” attorney Ron Zambrano told NewsNation. “Without getting into the politics, I can’t imagine why anyone would want Lizzo representing them in any way, given her reprehensible behavior. It’s just a terrible look.”

Shortly after the suit was filed, she defended herself on Instagram . “I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days. There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

A month later, Lizzo hit the stage at The Beverly Hilton to accept the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the Black Music Action Coalition gala. She’s made other high-profile appearances in the months since. She turned up to present an award at February’s Grammy Awards, flew to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl and attended Vanity Fair ‘s star-studded post Oscars party in Beverly Hills.

Lizzo clarifies she is not quitting music industry: ‘I quit giving any negative energy attention’

  • View Author Archive

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

She’s squashing the rumors .

Lizzo clarified her previous post, in which she claimed she was quitting music because her character had been “picked apart” after her former dancers accused her of sexual harassment.

“I wanted to make this video because I just need to clarify when I say, ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention,” she said in a video posted to Instagram Tuesday.

Lizzo.

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting to people. And I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape, or form am I the only person experiencing that negative voice that’s louder than the positive.”

The “Good As Hell” singer, 35, continued, “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for. I’m going to keep moving forward and keep being me.”

Last Friday, Lizzo posted a message on Instagram, saying that she was “getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

Lizzo.

The flutist said she only wanted “to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it,” but she feels like the “world doesn’t want” her in it.

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views. Being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look … my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name,” she added.

“I didn’t sign up for this s–t — I QUIT.”

Lizzo.

Lizzo has faced public criticism since her former backup dancers — Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez — filed a lawsuit against her, claiming in August 2023 for creating a toxic work environment and sexual harassment.

In the lawsuit, the dancers claimed that “things quickly got out of hand” after “Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas” during a trip to Amsterdam in February 2023.

Per the docs, the four-time Grammy winner allegedly “pressured” and “goaded” Davis into touching the breasts of one of the nude performers.

Lizzo at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

The plaintiffs further claimed in court docs that a month later, Lizzo deceived them once more into attending a nude show, thereby “robbing them of the choice not to participate.”

The pop star denied the allegations , saying the “sensationalized” claims were false.

The “Rumors” singer was then hit with sexual harassment allegations from six additional employees.

Asha Daniels.

Asha Daniels, who worked in Lizzo’s wardrobe department for her 2023 tour, alleged in a lawsuit she was verbally and physically abused by her manager, Amanda Nomura, and claimed Lizzo and staffers at her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., were aware of Nomura’s alleged pattern of behavior.

In September 2023, Page Six exclusively reported that the “About Damn Time” singer asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to dismiss the “ridiculous” harassment lawsuits her former employees filed against her.

She also requested a trial by jury in response to the complaints.

Lizzo Clarifies She’s Not Quitting Music, Just ‘Negative Energy’

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Lizzo clarified that her “I Quit” Instagram post last week was not about leaving music, but her intention to “quit giving any negative energy attention.”

In a video shared on social media Tuesday, April 2, the musician — who’s currently facing sexual harassment and hostile workplace environment allegations — said: “What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people. Cause I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape, or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.”

Along with the complaint filed by three of Lizzo former dancers last August, her former tour wardrobe designer filed a separate suit accusing Lizzo and her team of racial and sexual harassment, disability discrimination, illegal retaliatory termination, and assault.

Lizzo has denied the accusations, previously issuing a statement that read: “I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days. There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.”

PGA Tour or LIV Golf: Which league will earn Masters honors, shine at Augusta National

With LIV Golf peeling off more and more stars from the PGA Tour, it begs the question: which league will shine the brightest?

The 151st Open - Day Two, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy

The Masters Tournament is finally upon us. That magical week that every golf fan looks forward to is here. But this year might very well be different than any other.

The PGA Tour is in flux as the emergence of LIV Golf has forced the former to make major changes.

With so many stars leaving for LIV, the Tour started the Player Incentive Program and created Signature Events that bring with it significantly larger purses. That, of course, put pressure on sponsors, some of which announced they were ending their partnership with the PGA Tour .

It has been a wild two years with no end in sight.

Thankfully, we at least get all of the best players in the world in one place at the same time. So, that begs the question: Which league will shine the brightest and send a member into Butler Cabin donning a Green Jacket?

PGA Tour Badly in Need of a Win

Upon the Saudi-funded LIV Golf hitting the scene, Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan went scorched earth on the upstart league. He went so far as to get 9/11 Justice on its side, considering Saudi Arabia’s ties to the terrorist attacks in 2001.

Yet, one year later a shocking deal was announced between the two sides.

Travelers Championship - Preview Day 3, Jay Monahan, PGA Tour

From there, it has been one public relations hit job after another for the PGA Tour. 9/11 Justice has since turned on Monahan, and understandably so. Players themselves have expressed disappointment and anger toward being left in the dark.

It is safe to say, the PGA Tour could use a PR win.

Well, what better place to get one than at Augusta National?

Scottie Scheffler leads a stacked, deep lineup of talented players looking for a major trophy. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy appears to have turned a corner after meeting with swing coach Butch Harmon .

Xander Schauffele has been incredibly consistent this year. Wyndham Clark is having not only the best year of his career, but if he wins this week, one could argue one of the better years in recent memory.

But it is the depth of the PGA Tour that truly stands out compared to LIV.

Jordan Spieth is always capable of winning any tournament. Tony Finau is playing very well and knows Augusta well. Patrick Cantlay is a dog and won’t ever back away from a challenge. Did you watch last year’s Ryder Cup?

2023 Ryder Cup - Singles Matches, Patrick Cantlay

Viktor Hovland, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama, Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Collin Morikawa, Cam Young, Sam Burns, Max Homa, Sahith Theegala, Jason Day, Adam Scott and Brian Harman are all world class golfers.

Any one of them could win and no one would be surprised.

Depth is on the Tour’s side.

LIV Golf Heavy at the Top

LIV, no matter what the shills online like to say, cannot compete with the Tour in terms of depth of talent.

That is inarguable.

However, at the top, a very strong argument can be made that they are in better shape.

The rival circuit currently has players who have won two of the last four U.S. Open’s, PGA Championships and Masters Tournaments.

They are highlighted by Jon Rahm, the reigning Masters champion. But when your second best option is Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, that’s impressive.

PGA Championship - Final Round, Brooks Koepka

Phil Mickelson might be getting up there in age, but a second place finish last year in Augusta proved he can still compete. Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel and Sergio Garcia are all former major winners.

They didn’t just peel off talent from the PGA Tour. They took some of the very best.

Coincidentally, Jaoquin Niemann might be playing better than any of those guys right now.

In total, there are 13 members of LIV playing in this year’s Masters. Each of them are a legit threat to take home the Green Jacket.

As I mentioned above, the PGA Tour really needs to put a check mark in the PR win column. A victory at Augusta would do that.

But I just don’t see it. The only odds-on favorite to win the Masters this century is Tiger Woods, who did it three times. Scheffler will contend, but I don’t foresee him winning it again.

Too many others either don’t play well here, or are not in good form entering this week.

Meanwhile, the LIV players are coming in looking to make a statement, as Garcia pointed out .

If I am favoring one side or the other, I believe the scale tips toward LIV Golf.
