Gold Coast Brewery Hop

This Gold Coast Brewery Hop takes you to the Gold Coast (or we can pick you up at your Gold Coast accommodation) and takes you around to see local breweries – meet the brewers, get behind the scenes, taste their fresh brews, and hear how beer is made.   All organised for you! Beer, transport, food, and professional host included. We will pick you up  wherever you want in Brisbane (10km radius of  CBD) or  the Gold Coast (Sanctuary Cove to Burleigh Heads). Areas outside of these areas can be organised – just ring us.

Our first stop will be the popular   Lost Palms Brewing Company  .  This micro-brewery has some excellent freshly brewed beer. Expect a range of beers that highlight hop flavours, a seasonally changing stout poured on nitro and plenty of other interesting styles.  (* Tasting paddle included).

Feeling refreshed, thirst quenched from the drive, we will head off for a short drive to our second stop,  Precinct Brewin g . They have transformed an old workshop into the perfect space for catching up with mates, hosting community events, or just having a quiet one. In our case, hosting a group of friends. The interior blends polished concrete, grand open-air ceilings and transient artworks to create a brewery that is contemporary,  breezy and welcoming. One of our favourites! Plus what we have come for – the beers which are all brewed on the premises and regularly changing. Excellent range for you to taste.  (*  Light lunch and tasting paddle included).  

Not far up the road we find the well-known  Burleigh Brewing  . Since it’s inception in 2006, Burleigh Brewing has won countless awards for both business and brewing. They have built a brand that is known and celebrated nationally and certainly helped to transform the Gold Coast’s independent craft brewing scene into one of the most vibrant and thriving in the country. The quality of the product will speak for itself.  (* Tasting paddle included).

Our final stop takes us to  Balter Brewery  . As they say  6 Aussies and a Yank walk into a bar and never come out … BALTER is born.  This is a cool place and we are sure it will be a great finish to the day. The quality beers won’t disappoint neither will the atmosphere. In their words  at “Balter, we’re all about celebrating that enjoyment with you, because beer is more than just a drink: it draws tribes together and is a companion to many great moments in life …. our #1 philosophy is that your taste buds come first.”.  (*Tasting paddle included).

In case you’ve been living under a rock—craft beer is all the rage right now in 2022. And the Gold Coast is leading the way, with local beerpreneurs shining a light on their brews of choice and boutique-style breweries popping up across the region. We'll drink to that.

Whether you’re a seasoned beer swiller or just like a reason to get out and socialise; we’ve rounded up eleven of the best breweries on the Gold Coast, or within driving distance, that are absolutely worth frothing over. Go on, drink up. 

Burleigh Heads & Biggera Waters

Run by three local lads who’ve gone from producing their first beer to opening a multi-award-winning brewery in just a few short years, Black Hops is easily one of our favourite breweries on the Gold Coast. Black Hops HQ in Burleigh Heads is the original brewery where the magic first started and if you find yourself on the Northern Gold Coast, Black Hops II in Biggera Waters is their upscale production brewery and taproom, with 16 beers on tap. All of the Black Hops venues are dog-friendly so bring your furry pal along while trying one of their quirky limited-release brews like the Galactic Symphony Hazy IPA, one of their core range like the Hornet IPA or the beer that started the dream, the Eggnog Stout.

Balter Brewing

Legendary local pro surfers Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbidge and Josh Kerr, together with long-term mates and their main man, head brewer Scott Hargrave, launched their first beer—Balter XPA—in early 2016. These days, Balter is stocked at a staggering 100+ bars and restaurants across the country. A household name countrywide, we can stand by with our chests puffed proudly, knowing the dream was born right here on the sunny GC. This weekend you should be drinking at Balter’s sexy newly-revamped Currumbin headquarters and working your way through a rotating roster of experimental batches, complete with food trucks, live tunes and a cool crew. This gorgeously re-vamped brewery is seriously awesome.

Burleigh Brewing

After more than a decade in business, it’s fair to say these guys helped revolutionise the local craft beer scene that we know and love today. A gleaming beacon of awesomeness in an industrial estate, the Burleigh Brewing taphouse is open to the public from Friday to Sunday with brewery tours, live music and delicious food truck meals. They’re always pouring famed brews such as Hef, Big Head and 28 Pale Ale, as well as limited edition concoctions from their trial system. With 28 brewing world gold medals under their belt, the husband-wife power couple that is Peta and Brennan Fielding have undoubtedly transformed the Gold Coast's independent craft brewing scene. Hands down, one of the Gold Coast’s best breweries.

If there's one thing the Gold Coast is never short on, it’s breweries. But one thing she hasn’t seen before is a seltzer brewery. In fact, no one has. The world’s first immersive hard seltzer brewery is located in Miami and we’re damn proud. FIZZ HQ pours a rotating series of exclusive Hard FIZZ (FYI that’s sparkling alcoholic deliciousness), as well as fan favourites like orange and mango and watermelon. The iconic Mr Consistent is also on tap and FIZZ HQ slings up an extensive range of Gold Coast beers and artisan spirits.  If all that hasn’t convinced you to head down to Miami, FIZZ HQ is seriously aesthetic. Think—bold neon signs, funky leopard-print bathrooms (prime for selfies) and a stunning wrap-around bar.

Lost Palms Brewing Company

Miami’s colourful brew house Lost Palms Brewing Company is a bold and bright addition to the best breweries on the Gold Coast. You certainly won't miss their giant blush and mint green Miami warehouse, set against the street’s industrial backdrop and otherwise cement landscape. Come for a chinwag with the friendly team, as you discover staple offerings like the summer and IPA brews, alongside more creative concoctions like their Kombucha blends and inventive sour flavours. Cheerleaders for the local art community, these lads also collaborate on artist-designed cans and packaging, which is worth two thumbs up in our books. 

Precinct Brewing

Opening in December 2020, Precinct Brewing Co. has quickly made a name for itself as one of the Gold Coast’s best breweries and it’s easy to see why. Precinct Brewing oozes industrial-chic vibes; the impressive metallic pour tanks contrast the timber beamed, open-air ceilings and polished concrete floors. Precinct is a fully functional brewery, with all beer made from scratch onsite and boasts twelve taps and four direct pour tanks. We did the math; that’s 16 different bars on tap at once. Favourites like XPA, rice lager and Open Borders pale ale grace the menu or froth over unique flavours like mango kettle sour. Precinct also hosts regular trivia nights that we’re major fans of.

Burleigh Barrels

One of the newest breweries on the Gold Coast, Burleigh Barrels is the ultimate trifecta‒a brewery, distillery and smokehouse. Oh yes. Just a stone’s throw from the bustling heart of James Street, Burleigh Barrels boasts a stunning beer garden where you can blow the froth off a few cold ones while chowing down on smoky bites straight from the in-hose smokehouse. In terms of beers, they currently stock a core range of five lagers, ales and IPAs, but there’s plenty more coming in the works.

The brainchild of the Black Hops crew, AWOL is the Gold Coast’s first dedicated barrel-aged beer taproom. Located in the heart of Burleigh Heads, you can book a special event and beer tasting tour at AWOL, where you’ll learn about the complex nature of barrel-aging beer, tour the facility and be guided through a beer tasting. We’ll drink to that. This one is definitely worth hitting up for a special occasion or gifting as an experience to that beer-lover who is just too hard to buy for. 

Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise might not be where you expect to find a fully functioning brewery, but  BOBs Beer  is mixing things up in the best way possible. If you haven’t heard about BOBs, you’re sure to notice it—the striking, three-storey white-washed brewpub commands the bustling corner of Elkhorn and Orchid Avenue, its copper sign shining out like a beacon to thirsty patrons. The name says it all—BOBs is actually an acronym for Best of Beers—but the beers attest to it. The brewhouse is led by famed ex-Red Duck, Clifton Hill and Bad Shepherd brewer Ryan Fullerton, so you know something good is a’brewin. BOBs currently offers 13 beers on tap, as well as a regularly rotating  lineup of guest taps . Black tie chai stout, anyone?

Fortitude Brewing Co.

Fortitude Brewing Co. is one of the Gold Coast originals. First opening in 2012, this hinterland-based brewhouse has an inviting indoor-outdoor beer garden for sampling their staple range or a punchier brew from their other label, Noisy Minor. What do we love most about this brewery, aside from its scenic mountain-top home? The fact it’s attached to a cheese-making factory. Order a tasting paddle of Fortitude brews with a plate of drool-worthy Witches Chase cheeses and crackers on the side. A heaven-sent combination.

Stone & Wood Brewery

Ah, where would life be without Stone & Wood ? We shudder to think about it. Just a short drive down the M1 to Byron, join a brewery tour for just $20 per person and learn what it takes to be rated one of the country’s best breweries. The stunning 1,160-metre-squared space in Byron’s Arts & Industry estate has a whopping 31 brewing tanks pumping out all their much-loved classics like the Pacific Ale as well as Stone & Wood’s experimental Pilot Batch beers and limited one-off beers. After your tour, pull up a stool in the taphouse and sip on all your frosty faves like Pacific Ale and Green Coast Lager, direct from the source.

In the mood for something stronger? Enjoy a gorgeous cocktail made with artisan spirits in the chic surrounds of one of the area's boutique distilleries. Discover a few of our favourites here.

BLACK HOPS BREWING

Where: Gardenia Grove, Burleigh Heads

If you’re into places that are more about keeping it real than being ‘trendy’, this is the brewery for you. Black Hops Brewing is the story of three Gold Coast mates (Dan, Eddie and Michael) making craft beer and sharing everything they learn along the way. In the setting of a very cool yet unassuming beach shack bar, you’ll be drinking from one of eight taps among stacks of kegs, fermenters and malt sacks. But that’s what’s so great about Black Hops: they’re understated all round. Even their beers don’t scream at you. Instead, smooth ales like the Beach House are made for long, chilled out sunny afternoons on the coast.

BURLEIGH BREWING COMPANY

Where: Ern Harley Drive, Burleigh Heads 

Established in 2006 by Peta and Brennan Fielding, Burleigh Brewing Company is said to be the one that began the Gold Coast’s love affair with craft beer 15 years ago. Unsurprisingly, they’ve won a slew of national and international awards, including World Beer Award Gold Medals, not to mention they beat out the Germans themselves for Best German Beer at the 2012 World Beer Cup – an impressive feat. Head into their brewery and taphouse for some live music, delicious food truck eats and good times.

Granddad Jacks

Where: 45 Lemana Ln, Miami

The first distillery on the Gold Coast to be based by the beach, Granddad Jacks is home to a tasting room, distillery and shop. Sample the gin, whisky and spirits at the bar, or take a tour of the distillery. Be sure to book into a Make Your Own Gin experience , hosted once a week, where you'll choose your own botanicals and learn to distil using copper stills. Of course, you'll take your bottle home with you as a brag-worthy souvenir.  

LOST PALMS BREWING COMPANY

Where: Oak Avenue, Miami 

Breweries have a reputation of feeling a bit masculine. So if you're after a good beer with a side of playful femininity, head to  Lost Palms Brewing Company . This pastel pink and mint taphouse makes the Gold Coast seem a little more gold. Located among the industrial factory yard trendiness of Miami, you’ll enjoy a cute clubhouse feel, fairy lights and all, against the backdrop of gleaming silver beer stacks and a colourful concrete playground with a basketball hoop should the mood strike you. Enjoy the sunshine and modern takes on beer philosophy with must-try brews like the Beetroot Sour.

BALTER BREWING

Where: Traders Way, Currumbin Waters

Set up by five of the Gold Coast’s most iconic pro surfers, including three-time world champ, Mick Fanning, and his best mate, world champ Joel Parkinson,  Balter Brewing is about the “enjoyment of a task without any particular skill for it”. This is a brewery where taste is the number one priority. Balter themselves note, “A neat can and cool place to hang out are great, but if our brews don’t tickle your tongue and put a grin on your head, then we haven’t done our job.” 

Located in the cruisy beach town of Currumbin, there are few places on the Gold Coast you’ll want to spend a Sunday afternoon more than Balter. Be sure to sneak in one of their award-winning pale-ales while grooving along with the taphouse DJ as you play a round of ‘World Tinnie Hurling’ – a game they invented just for the occasion of sunny Gold Coast afternoons.

FORTITUDE BREWING CO.

If you’re looking for a very chill atmosphere where the lush natural Gold Coast landscape creeps in, then Fortitude Brewing Co is your kind of place. The good folks at FBC have built a brewery to suit Australia’s rugged exteriors and soft-hearted interiors. their range of brews are full bodied, bold, yet also balanced. They’re not so crafty that the flavours will alarm you and not so mainstream that you’ll find them just anywhere. In fact, they refer to themselves as the ‘Goldilocks of beer’ – because they’re just right.

For a lazy afternoon session or a night reminiscing about the good old days with mates, FBC has a beer suited to your taste buds and mood.

You may describe Wildflower distillery as "Burleigh in a bottle." Based in the Gold Coast suburb of Burleigh, Wildflower boasts some of the area's best gin and vodka. The distillery's signature gin is infused with honey from the distiller's backyard, meaning you'll taste hints of the local flora. Stop into the bar for a taste.

From Surfers Paradise to Burleigh Heads and over to Tamborine Mountain , it’s time to sip your way around the best breweries on the Gold Coast.

1. Hound and Stag Brewing Co.

The Gold Coast’s newest brewery Hound and Stag Brewing Co. is whole-heartedly into creating great beer within a spectacular venue to enjoy it. This stylish taproom and beer garden with a modern Australian cuisine menu and weekly live music is designed to be the brewery for everyone.

2. BOBs Beer

An acronym for best of beers , BOBs Beer is the first and only brewery in Surfers Paradise, led by head brewer Ryan Fullerton who is passionate about tying the local Surfers’ culture into each beer he brews. BOBs Beers are brewed on-site so you can enjoy a pot just metres from where it was brewed.

Home to Australia’s champion European-style ale, Madocke Beer Brewing Company exclusively brews Belgian-style beers at its digs in Ashmore. This traditional Belgian beer comes from many factors including the brewing process, fermentation method, and knowledge of traditions handed down for centuries. On a visit to the taproom, get to know its Belgian range of craft beer and grab a bite from the food truck on-site.

4. Lost Palms Brewing Company

Another recent addition to the burgeoning Gold Coast craft scene is Lost Palms , which has put a little fun into the brewery scene. Taking out any tough masculine elements associated with beer, this brewery and taphouse has a gorgeous pastel pink and mint colour scheme — hardly your average brewery, is it?

You can’t miss this striking Gold Coast brewery.

You’ll find Lost Palms in the neighbourhood of Miami across the street from the Gold Coast’s trendiest hang-out, Miami Marketta , which has pop-up bars, boho designers, eclectic live music, and a crowd that looks more Collingwood than Coolangatta. Look for modern takes on beer with brews like the Beetroot Sour, and take advantage of the daily food deals such as $12 burgers and fries on Fridays.

5. Precinct Brewing Co.

Nestled in a different pocket of Miami is Precinct Brewing Co. — a converted workshop that’s now a full-working brewery. With beers on tap, a restaurant, and large communal spaces, along with open-air ceilings and transient artworks, you’ve got a contemporary, breezy, and welcoming brewery.

6. Burleigh Barrels Brewery

Close to the Burleigh surf break is Burleigh Barrels Brewery with award-winning beers and a delicious low ‘n’ slow BBQ smokehouse menu. With great vibes, live music, a dog-friendly beer garden, and plenty of events, it’s the perfect place to end a day or start a night out.

7. Aardvark and Arrow Brewery

Aardvark and Arrow Brewery specialises in small-batch brewing and provides a wide range of beers, ciders, and seltzers to the Gold Coast community. On the third Friday of every month, you’re invited to their Friday Night Tasting events (5 to 8pm) to taste six of their brews via their self-serve taps (yes, you can help yourself!) and to feast on a BBQ dinner.

8. Two Mates Taphouse

As the name suggests, Two Mates Taphouse was created by two mates, offering a delicious range of beer, cider, and kombucha. From its number one seller Lovemore Hazy Pale (a sunny yellow pale ale bursting with tropical and citrus notes) and Choc Cherry Porter to the Mango Pash Sour or Coconut Lime Cider , you’ll feel revitalised from the first sip. Want a bite on the side? The food menu included Buffalo wings, cheesy bread, burgers, and salads.

9. Black Hops HQ

It started with three Brisbane mates who loved to drink beer together. Nothing too unusual about that in Australia, but what’s different about these buddies is that they’ve now created Black Hops Brewing which is rated among Australia’s top 10 breweries.

Located near the waves at Burleigh Point, Black Hops brewery is all about keeping it real, so you’ll be drinking from one of eight taps among stacks of kegs, fermenters, and malt sacks, but that’s what’s so great about Black Hops. It’s understated, yet somehow that makes it all the more trendy. Grab a tasting paddle and a bite to eat from the on-site food trucks every Friday and Saturday. If you fancy a change of pace, make sure to taste their refreshing Ginger Cider.

10. Black Hops II

Black Hops is so popular, they had to create a second taphouse in Biggera Waters. Check out their 16 beers on tap, Trivia on Thursday nights and food trucks from Thursday to Sunday.

11. Burleigh Brewing Company

It was the Burleigh Brewing Company that started the whole independent craft brewing phenomenon on the Gold Coast. In 2006, everyone drank the same beer because there wasn’t any other choice, then a Hawaiian bloke and a Gold Coast woman got together and put it all on the line, giving up their old careers to introduce the Coast to craft beer. The rest, as they say, is history.

There have been stacks of World Beer Award Gold Medals along the way and today, their brewery is one of Burleigh’s trendiest spots, hosting live music on the weekend and food trucks. You can even bring your four-legged friends along!

Introducing Balter Brewing Company in Currumbin, their mission is uncomplicated — combine good beer with enjoyment, which they execute beautifully as proven by their first-place win in the GABS Australian Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers awards.

Sitting in the Gold Coast Hinterland is Tamborine Mountain’s Fortitude Brewing Co. The two founders of Fortitude became mates at school, but their future as beer brewers was sealed when they had their first beer together and they realised that this should become their life’s work.

Today, Fortitude delivers a range of beers that bring together top-quality ingredients and bold flavours that linger refreshingly. Known as the Goldilocks of beers, you won’t find Fortitude on taps everywhere but when you do get a taste, you’ll know it’s just right. Pop over to this idyllic spot for a lazy afternoon session.

Tours focusing on beer: Coldie on the Goldie , Quickie on the Coast

Our Gold Coast Distillery Tour visits four of the following venues. We may mix it up a bit, but below is a rough itinerary of the day. Lunch is generally served at the second venue we visit.

Due to the sudden sale and closure of Woodchoppers Inn/Against the Grain Distillery (Feb 2024), we are updating our itinerary with a new, exciting lunch venue! Watch this space.

Most spirits start their lives as beer, so it’s highly likely we will begin the day with beer education at Madocke Beer Brewing Co in Ashmore.

Panezski Artisan Distillery

Hidden in the industrial streets of Molendinar, Panezski Distillery  focuses on Polish-style vodkas, with a small but solid range. Their speakeasy-inspired venue is a great place to sit back with a cocktail and easily find yourself feeling as though you’ve travelled through time to the 1920s. Hospitality is the name of their game!

White Oat Distillery

Did you know the northern Gold Coast has its own gin distillery? Tucked away where you’d least expect it,  White Oat Distillery is a showcase of all things copper! With three current core-range gins, plus a wide range of special releases, a visit to White Oat with Hop On certainly won’t be your last.

Wildflower Gin Distillery

Tucked away in Varsity Lakes/Burleigh is  Wildflower Gin Distillery , which kicked off during lockdown of all things! Starting with sanitizer and a small-scale still (say that three times fast!), James and Tudor quickly grew into their space when they got some much larger equipment. Hosting gin-making classes during the week, our guests will get to hear the story behind the distillery and taste a range of their award-winning spirits.

Capricorn Distillery

Sample rum and/or gin at the hidden gem, Capricorn Distillery, housed in a funky industrial warehouse in the back streets of Burleigh. Here we will get a chat about what makes rum rum and gin gin , and how to experience the true flavours of these often misaligned spirits.

Granddad Jack's Distillery

Have you ever wondered why gin tastes the way it does? Think all vodkas, gins and whiskeys are created equal? Then you will love this mind-opening tour of the Gold Coast’s first nano-distillery. At  Granddad Jack’s , owners Luke and Dave will share the story of their family history, the making of their tipples, and break any misconceptions you’ve held about distilling. Sample three of their gins, all made on premise, and become part of the family.

Bear in mind that their motto is “Too busy for bullshit; too tipsy to care!” – so no bullshitters allowed!

Pick Up / Drop Off Details

Where a location is indicated, we will pick up you outside the venue so please keep an eye out for our van – you can’t miss it!

• Helensvale Station is a central stop for anyone on the train coming from either direction. We’ll be waiting on the heavy rail side at the Kiss’n’Ride – keep an eye out for the branded van.
• Loose Moose is located on the ground floor of the Oasis Centre in Broadbeach, just near the roundabout. We’ll pick you up outside, so make sure you keep an eye out for the van.
• Helensvale Station so guests can easily get back to the southern end of the Gold Coast or back up to Brisbane.
• Loose Moose so you can kick on with a few more drinks or easily grab a taxi to get where you need to be.

We are flexible with our drop-off locations, but please speak to us at the time of booking.

What You Get

Included in the price: transportation in our private, air-conditioned van, guided brewery and distillery tour with explanation of the brewing/distilling process, all beer/gin/rum/whisky samples at the breweries and distilleries we visit, lunch, beer education and history, snacks, and witty commentary (well, we think it is).

Please note that we are visiting working distilleries and it’s suggested you wear closed-toe shoes so you don’t miss out on any of the fun. Also, since they don’t always run on a set schedule, we will try and catch the distillers in action but that can’t always be guaranteed; keep an open mind on the day because no matter what or who we see, the samples are always epic. Sometimes the itineraries will change at a whim; this may be because of traffic, a last-minute decision from the distillery or any number of things, so we ask for your patience and flexibility.
