Tiger's Nest, Bhutan

Tiger Nest is just 15 km northward of Paro Valley, in Drukgyel Dzong. It is among the most revered monasteries in Bhutan , and lies at a sea level of 900 m higher than the valley, over a rocky hill.

Tiger Nest is stunning in its beauty and location. Due to its location, hiking is the only way to get to the monastery. There are no vehicles that make the drive up. If you cannot hike the entire way, you can hire a horse to carry you most of the way there.

Ankor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Wat is a Hindu temple located in Cambodia and is the largest religious monument in the world. It is some of the most remarkable architectural and artistic accomplishments of the ancient world. The quality composition and execution give them an unequalled status in world art.

There are two ways visitors get to Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples either by organized trip or opt for a do-it-yourself tour. If you are an adventurous type, you can visit the temples on a motorbike, you can also visit by bus, minivan or tuk-tuk.

Great Wall Of China

The Great Wall of China , built around 500 years ago is located in northern China. Natural barriers and trenches like hills and rivers are often also considered part of the Great Wall of China. It was eventually created in bricks that were laid by millions of workers.

The Terracotta is a set of sculptures created from terracotta. It depicts the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Chinese Emperor. The Terracotta may be defined as funerary art, which is buried along with the emperor. It protects the emperor in his afterlife.

Taj, Culture, Spice - India

The Taj Mahal, a marble mausoleum ivory-white in color is at the southern banks of the river Yamuna in Agra, India . It was built by Shah Jahan, a Mughal emperor in the memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

The culture of India refers collectively to the thousands of unique and distinct cultures of all communities and religions present in India. Languages, music, religions, dance, food, and customs differ from place to place within the country.

There are several spices people like to eat such as Clove, Black pepper, Cumin, Coriander and Nutmeg, and mace.

Cherry Blosson & Mt Fuji, Japan

Cherry Blossom is a flower of many trees of genus Prunus. When the cherry blossom trees are in full-bloom with breathtaking pink flowers, it is among the most memorable signs of spring. The festival characteristically initiates in late March and lasts right up to mid-April. Loads of fun events and festivities are involved.

Mount Fuji, also spelled Fujisan is the highest mountain in Japan about 12,388 feet. With its graceful conical form, it has become famous throughout the world and is considered the most sacred symbol of Japan.

Everest Base Camp, Nepal

Nepal offers unique advantages that attract numerous hikers and mountaineers. Everest Base Camp frequently is the combination of two base camps on opposite sides of Mount Everest. It is in the kingdom of Nepal that the South Base Camp lies while North Base Camp is in Tibet, China. Everest Base Camp is full of the Himalayan peaks, and glaciers along a scenic road with spectacular views of the Sherpa village.

 Here, walk to the base camp of the highest peak in the world that is Mount Everest Base Camp. With the narrow area on the mountain, your adventure begins with an exciting flight to Lukla.

There are many types of beach in Thailand such as Railay Beach – Krabi there are no vehicles in the town so very quiet and perfect for kids. Phra Nang Beach, Karon Beach and Kata Beach are popular for calm and kid friendly beaches.

Gateway TO Heaven, Bali

Lempuyang Temple Gate is a Balinese Hindu temple at Karangasem on the slopes of Mount Lempuyang. It is among Bali’s most regarded temples. This spot is believed to be the “gates of heaven”.

Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

Asia Tour Selection Trips

• Asia is particularly well suited to taking guided tours, especially since travel in China, India and many other countries can be chaotic and confusing for non-natives.
• Don’t try to tackle too much of Asia in one trip, unless you have unlimited time, resources, and patience.
• Countries that deserve their own special trips include China, Japan, India, Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, and Israel – though you could say the same about many others as well.
• Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore) is a favorite emerging destination, and can be experienced more authentically with the right tour operator who helps you get away from the tourist traps. 
• River cruise trips are becoming increasingly popular in East Asia, especially in China ( Yangtze ), Vietnam and Cambodia ( Mekong ) and Myanmar ( Irrawaddy ) and are excellent options for those a bit intimidated about getting too up close with Asia yet still experiencing much of its beauty. 
• Some Asian countries may be known trouble spots with active military or political conflict (Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan), but it is possible to arrange tours to some unexpected places, such as Iran, Kurdish Iraq -- even North Korea.

Best Time to Travel in Asia

Pick any time of the year and you will be able to visit one part of Asia. With Asia covering so much space and a variety of landscapes, you will be able to find a time of year that fits. 

However, some areas of Asia during certain times of the year should be avoided. It’s recommended that you coordinate the time of year with the region of Asia you want to visit before booking. Some tours to Asia may be hindered or itineraries may change because of weather or water levels. 

There are a few times of the year you should keep in mind when doing your research. South Asia during the summer months sees high rains during its monsoon season. November through March is monsoon season for many parts of Southeast Asia . Western Asia is very warm during the summer months as much of that area is desert. Central Asia can get very cold during the winter months. 

However, the months of May and September are probably the safest for most of Asia . Temperatures may still be warm in many areas, but you will see less rain and the crowds will be smaller. 

Asia Luxury Travel

There are plenty of Asian luxury tour operators you can choose from. Luxury tours of Asia typically provide premium accommodation in 4 and 5-star hotels in the central areas of the major cities. If you are visiting Asia on a river cruise , you’ll see high-end cruise ships and fine dining options. 

What makes luxury travel in Asia special is the private and personalized experiences. Whether it is a private hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia, Turkey, or a special photo opp with the Terra Cotta Warriors in China, Asia luxury travel is about those personal and exclusive touches to get you up close and personal with the diverse Asian cultures. 

Asia Budget Travel 

Asia is one of the best places to travel on a budget. Asia, and specifically Southeast Asia, is the epicenter of the backpacking world. 

There are many budget airlines and hostels throughout Asia. In places like Vietnam , you can pay $5 a night for a hostel dorm room and $10 for a bus ride. It can be easy to stick to a budget in Asia as there are many affordable options for travel and accommodation. 

There are plenty of Asia tour operators that provide budget tours or shoestring itineraries. Many of these tours will book you at hostels or homestays where you can meet locals and get to know other travelers.

You’ll also be traveling by local or public transportation to save money. These tours also often include more free time than luxury tours to keep the budget down and allow you to choose what to spend your money on. 

Asia for Older Travelers

While traveling through Asia may be intimidating for older travelers, there is plenty of opportunity to explore this diverse continent. 

However, it’s highly recommended that you do your research of the tour operator and countries you are looking to visit. For example, older travelers may have a harder time in some of the more rural areas of Cambodia and Laos with the dirt paths and trekking.

However, many tours take into account activity level and if you suffer from previous injuries or have a hard time getting around, a less strenuous tour may be the best. 

Much of Asia is mountainous, both in the cities and in the more rural areas. Cities like Istanbul with its very rugged streets and Kathmandu’s high elevation may make walking around difficult. If you are concerned about getting around, going with a more luxury, low intensity tour may be the best. 

Choosing a Southeast Asia Tour

Southeast Asia covers some of the most visited countries in Asia, however, trying to fit all of those countries into one trip will be overwhelming. 

Pick a few countries that you want to visit and find the tour that covers all of those countries. Many of the Southeast Asia tours group together a few countries in their itineraries. Vietnam is often included with Cambodia and Laos whereas Thailand can be combined with Singapore and Malaysia.

Street Food in Asia

Asia’s cuisine is vast and different, but one of the best types of food you’ll find everywhere is street food. In places like Bangkok and Hanoi , street food is part of the culture and is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. 

Much of the street food you’ll find are quick bites like samosas in India or gua bao buns in Hong Kong. The food stands will also have small chairs and tables for you to sit at if you are eating bigger dishes like pho. Street food in Asia is a great way to get a look into the food culture and ingredients while also saving some money. 

However, it is important to protect yourself. If the food stand doesn’t have any locals buying from it or the food they are serving has been sitting out all day in the sun, don’t eat there. Go where the large lines are and the food has been cooked recently or fried.

Trip.com Group launches free transit tours to turn your layover in Shanghai into a mini-vacation

International layovers don’t have to mean waiting for hours in the airport terminal; it’s also possible to make the most of the short window of time and explore the country you’re transiting in. Enter “Shanghai Express”, free layover city tours launched by Trip.com Group to show travellers the top highlights of Shanghai before their next flight – all within a few hours.

Starting from 15 April 2024, international travellers stopping by the Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) for over eight hours will have the opportunity to take part in these layover city tours – the first of their kind in Shanghai. You don’t have to worry about researching where to go and how either, as these tours take charge of everything: airport pick-up and send-off, attraction tickets, e-sim cards, and more. So, all you need to do is turn up.

The tours will be available to international travellers who are eligible for China’s 72/144-hour visa-free transit policy, as well as those holding a 24-hour temporary entry permit issued by the airport border inspection.

“As visa-free transit policies open up new avenues for international travellers to explore China, Trip.com Group is excited to unveil this innovative programme for those with just a short stopover,” said Ms Han Feng, Head of Marketing at Trip.com. “We will leverage our extensive resources to ensure a memorable tour experience and provide world-class customer service to help flyers enjoy what Shanghai has to offer.”

Exploring the city between flights

Upon passing customs after arrival at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, travellers may head to the Trip.com Group currency exchange counter on Island A in the Departure Hall of Terminal 2 for in-person registration. A professional guide will be available at the counter one hour before the start of each tour to assist with the registration process. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Travellers will be able to choose from several tour timings. Each free tour accommodates a maximum of ten travellers and lasts five to six hours, including transportation from and back to the airport.

The tours feature some of the top attractions on the AI-powered Trip.Best list for Shanghai based on user reviews and expert curation, leading visitors on a journey through the past, present, and future of the bustling metropolis.

Current itineraries include:

Shanghai Highlights City Tour (9:00-14:00):  a tour of classic Shanghai highlights, including exploring traditional Chinese architecture in the Yu Garden and viewing Shanghai’s iconic and futuristic skyline at the Bund.

Strolling Under the Trees Citywalk Tour (16:00-22:00):  a tour for the romantics and urban history lovers, which includes a city walk through the old villas and charming cafes along the beautiful Wukang Road, an immersive visit to the Yu Garden, and a stroll along the historic Bund.

Huangpu River Cruise Sightseeing Night Tour (18:00-23:00):  a unique experience in the city that never sleeps – including the breath-taking night view of the Bund aboard the Huangpu River Cruise and a deep dive into the bustling Yu Garden at night.

Led by English-speaking guides, each tour includes transportation, tickets, e-sim cards, and team insurance. Those seeking to travel light may store their luggage at the airport or on the shuttle bus if space permits. Please note that the free tours do not include meals, though our guides will be more than happy to offer dining recommendations.

Rise in international transits via China

The Shanghai Express Tours are expected to enrich the experience of travellers as they transit in mainland China, sparking their interest in more in-depth trips in the future.

The International Air Transport Association reveals that transit numbers have been on the rise, with over 330,000 travellers experiencing layovers in mainland China last December alone. This represents a monthly growth of 47%. International airports in mainland China, particularly in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou, have been hubs for international flights particularly to and from the Asia Pacific region.

Thailand comes in third on the list of top international departure countries transiting into Shanghai Pudong Airport. Transit times vary between eight hours to 144 hours.

Currently, nationals from 54 countries are eligible for the 72/144-hour transit visa-free policies in 23 cities across mainland China. As long as they hold valid international travel documents and interline tickets to countries or regions with confirmed dates and seats, they can apply for visa-free transit at border inspection in designated city ports.

Additionally, foreign nationals with international connecting flights within 24 hours can transit through nine designated airports in mainland China without immigration procedures. Those interested in exploring the local city within this timeframe may obtain a 24-hour temporary entry permit by presenting their passports and connecting ticket flights and fill out the Temporary Entry Card.

Discover the beauty of China with ease

The Shanghai Express Tours are set against the backdrop of Trip.com Group’s various initiatives to support international travellers to discover the beauty of China with ease as the country relaxes visa requirements.

With visa-free entry extended to Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg on 14 March, China is now visa-free for eligible travellers from 15 countries.

Trip.com Group witnessed a triple-digit year-on-year rise in international travel bookings to China in the first two months of 2024. Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu drew the most attention from global travellers, with theme parks like the Shanghai Disney Resort and historic sites like the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum capturing significant interest.

Trip.com recently launched an initiative with the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site in Xi’an to provide overseas online integration to offer international travellers deals, guided tour options, and more information about its astounding Terracotta Warriors and remarkable history.

Trip.com Group has also been working with airlines to provide international and domestic flight combos to encourage more travellers to venture beyond traditional hotspots. The “Explore China” campaign, launched with Air China in March, gives travellers from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland a free additional flight within China when they purchase a single round-trip flight to the country.

The “Beyond Shanghai: Experience China” campaign, launched with China Eastern Airlines in February, also rewards customers booking flights to Shanghai with a complimentary domestic flight within mainland China.

To enhance convenience for visitors to China, Trip.com Group has implemented various initiatives. Notably, the China Travel Guide on the Trip.com app offers practical information on navigating the country. It covers topics such as entry requirements, internet access, payment, transportation and more with easy-to-follow tips and explanatory videos. Cambodia Adventure

This trip was not what I expected - it was SO much MORE!! I was nervous travelling to a non-english speaking country, as a female, with a teenage daughter in tow, but it has become one of the BEST experiences of my entire life!! The trip was well organised and planned, our tour leader Mony was amazing - he shared his culture and knowledge with us, and was approachable. We met amazing people and created great friendships, while we experienced the true culture and people of Cambodia. There is a lot of travel, but the transport was safe and comfortable, and even with the long hours of travel there were plenty of stops and opportunities to experience and interact with locals, and still time to explore/do activities when we reached our destinations. Use the travel time to get to know the other members of your group better, or watch the world go by - there is plenty to look at! The hotels/guesthouses were mostly what we expected for the price we paid, but some were better! Can't wait for our next trip!!

I really liked the tour. All the Hostels are clean. Some are a Little Bit low Standard, some are really high Standard. I loved the cultural day and would have enjoyed to learn More. I Missed That we didnt get so many informations about the Country and the Lifestyle. I liked the boattour. I loved beeing around with amazing people in my group. I really did Not like That it was Not possible to visit the prison, because I was really looking forward to That. And there was Not really a alternative Choice for something Else.

Thailand and Laos Adventure

Excellent tour with Dream. She had the of the group involved and enjoying outings as a group, couple or individuals. Great sights and good mix of activities.

Discover Japan

The Discover Japan tour was excellent primarily thanks to our Chief Experience Officer (CEO) Ted (Tetsuji Watanabe). Most outstanding was his care of every detail of our trip which started on the day that Japan was hit by a typhoon. Other than minor changes in the travel schedule, Ted was able to get us last minute rail/bus tickets to ensure that we did not miss any of the planned activities. In addition, he provided daily emails with suggestions on what to do on our free time and he guided us to those places.

What people love about Asia Solo Tours

In Total the trip was good in that we were able to see a part of the world that we had never and might never again) see. However there were various things that were surprises to us. The fact that it was our responsibility to check in for flights booked by Tour Radar was a surprise and added a level of stress in the midst of the trip that could have been dealt with by advance communication or by Tourradar offering another element to the package which includes a concierge type service which gets boarding passes (ie could use the in country tour guides). Not all hotels had staff that could communicate effectively (if at all) in English which would have made the first days in a city easier . Finding good restaurants, ATMs, drug stores etc. Some of your guides were helpful in providing a lot of that information when they dropped us off at the hotel. Chang our Bangkok guide did not do that and with th e challenges of hotel staff to communicate , our first day or two in Bangkok was the low point of our tour. Also the next day city tour was poorly done and the length of the tour could have been extended a little so the city tour was more comprehensive. Also I am told Thailand is a beautiful country but we saw nothing of the beauty that might have made Thailand famous. We enjoyed the Hare Residence in Siem Reap and would suggest keeping it in the program.. Also Laos was enjoyable , as was the hotel but the only suggestion would be to add or provide the opportunity for a visit to see one of the elephant reserves near to Luang Prabang. A city tour of Na Noi (and Saigon) would have been good to include. We came early so were able to book our own tours in Ha Noi but feel we really did not see Saigon at all. Overall the trip was good. I would suggest (as previously mentioned) a concierge type service for older travellers and maybe expanding the tour groups to 8-10 would make that more cost effective
