Youtube extremely slow in Safari

I am using MacBook Air 201, macOS Catalina

YouTube is extremely slow in working when used in Safari, but it works comparatively fine in Google Chrome.

In Safari the Full screen and normal screen toggle takes ages to happen and after i exit full screen it stays in the hangover for about 5-10 seconds.

I have tried clearing cache, resetting safari, deleting all website data.

Please recommend some effective measure.

I have the same problem with Safari. It is also horribly slow on sites like Facebook. Emptied cache etc. No improvement.

I've also tried other browsers (Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi & Firefox) and they all run far better. Chrome seems to run the best here. 10.15.4 Catalina running on a 2017 MacBook Air. I have come to the point where I have dropped Safari from the Dock.

2021 Nissan Patrol “Super Safari” Is The New SUV You Really Want

We have lamented the Nissan Patrol SUV not being available in the US. Instead, we are stuck with the overpriced, bloated, overstuffed Armada. The 2021 Nissan Patrol “Super Safari” is the new SUV you really want. This is a full-size SUV 4×4 available in the Middle East and the Philippines. They’re rugged, dependable, and as capable as any stripped-down Toyota Land Cruiser. 

The 2021 Patrol Super Safari has seen limited changes which is probably good

Nissan has chosen 1) not to change it since the late-1990s, and 2) not to make it available anywhere else but the aforementioned countries. For 2021 Nissan has added some great features and upgrades making us want it even more. The change you’ll notice first is that black has been added to the very limited pallet of Patrol colors. So now paint colors have really expanded with black added to either gold or white. No, we’re not kidding.

The other noticeable changes include 17-inch alloy wheels, now finished in black. Also, the Super Safari decal on the quarters has been updated. Nissan doesn’t hesitate to pull out all of the stops for some exciting and dynamic changes from 2020 to 2021 models. Not. 

Inside the center stack is housed an eight-inch infotainment screen and includes Apple CarPlay. New cloth upholstery along with tan leather are two new features. An option is the addition of Super Safari embossing in the seats. 

The Middle East get the Patrol-both as a two- or four-door

So why does the Middle East get the Patrol-both as a two- or four-door, and the rest of the world doesn’t? Thierry Sabbagh, Nissan’s Managing Director in the Middle East, told Carbuzz that Super Safari’s longevity in the Middle East is due to its “deep-rooted heritage.” He continues that the Patrol “adds a modern look to the powerful performance and durability of the SUV – maintaining its credibility to be the ideal partner for an off-road driving adventure across the region.” In other words, he doesn’t have a clue why. 

We suppose if he knew why he’d be head of marketing or he’d be a VP at Nissan. Instead, he is tasked with providing no reason for the reason the Patrol is popular there and why it is not sold here. But we digress.

One reason we can readily see why the Patrol is so popular in the Middle East is price

One reason we can readily see is because of the price . The 2021 Patrol Super Safari lists for 171k AED, which translates to $47k in the US. Some may find that a bit high considering the Nissan Armada starts at just $1,500 more. But let’s get real; most Armadas are loaded up to the $65,000 to $80,000 price. That is getting close to twice the price of a Patrol.

We can lament further but instead look to the immediate future for a new Nissan Titan and its SUV offshoot Armada. Nissan has a lot of catching up to do as it has let its catalog of vehicles somewhat die on the vine. That in turn has caused a cash crunch that puts the future of the company in question. There is hope that Nissan can get its act together and start a product cadence of new, competitive vehicles that match feature to feature the best in each class.

Helix Rack crackling / popping on Mac when playing back Youtube videos in Safari

Have seen plenty of other users on here that have experienced similar issues to mine, but haven't seen any real solutions so thought I'd raise it again in the hope of hearing from someone who has maybe managed to sort the issue out.

When using the Rack as an interface and playing back YouTube videos in Safari on my Mac I get really annoying pops and clicks.

I'm using the latest Helix driver for Mac (primarily so I could use keyboard volume controls as well as the wider range of sample rate options) and am making sure the sample rate on the Helix matches that chosen on the Mac. 

After much mucking about, changing cables and what not, I've established that it isn't a ground loop issue, but seems to be one related to sample rates. When I change the sample rate in audio/midi setup the issue goes away. 

It's usually momentary and it's at random moments so hard to reproduce, but it's pretty regular. The issue only really seems to crop up on Safari, Chrome seems to be OK, but I've noticed that it happens with that as well when a higher sample rate is selected like 96hz. 

I don't have this issue when using the Mac with my other audio interfaces and the issue doesn't seem to occur when using Logic, Spotify or Apple Music. 

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to alleviate the problem I'd love to hear from them.

Yep, stop using Safari, use Firefox for a crackle and pop free experience.

This has been an ongoing thing with Safari for too long to remember. Apple seem to ignore peoples complaints, and post very spurious claims on how to cure it. Total nonsense!

It is nothing to do with Helix, or drivers - it’s purely Safari.

Quickest and easiest solution is to ditch Safari for a web browser that doesn’t screw up audio playback.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

I know Safari's track record, but there's aspects of its security controls that I prefer over Chrome. While you say it's nothing to do with the Helix, I've a couple of other interfaces - one a crappy entry level Behringer - that don't exhibit this problem with video playback.

I should also note that I'm also getting similar clicks and pops in Chrome, though not as frequently. 

It could be a clocking problem, make sure that the Helix is the master clock in the audio/midi application or maybe try to make an aggregate device combining the Mac's internal audio and your Helix and set the Helix as the master clock and use the aggregate as your system audio device.

Apple’s latest MacOS Big Sur beta brings 4K YouTube to Safari

If you’re a fan of the Safari web browser on your Mac, Apple just gave YouTube video playback a major upgrade in its latest macOS beta release. Now available for download , developers on the macOS Big Sur beta 4 can finally playback YouTube videos in 4K UHD resolution using Apple’s Safari browser.

Apple published details about the feature change in its Big Sur beta 4 documentation, noting that the software brings “support for 4K HDR playback of YouTube videos” in Safari and Webkit.

Prior to today’s release, YouTube video was capped at just 1080p FHD resolution when using Safari. This meant that if you wanted to play YouTube videos at resolutions greater than FHD, you had to choose an alternate browser, like Google’s Chrome. If all goes well during Apple’s beta testing period, Big Sur is expected to be released this fall for all consumers.

This change is especially notable given Apple’s push for higher resolution displays in recent years with Retina Displays appearing on smartphones, tablets, and the Mac. This means that if you own Apple’s iMac with Retina 4K Display, iMac with Retina 5K Display , iMac Pro with Retina 5K Display,  or Apple’s studio-grade Pro Display XDR panel with a Retina 6K Display, you can edit and playback YouTube videos in resolutions up to 4K .

Initially announced earlier this summer at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference event, macOS Big Sur introduced a number of new features , including new icons, an updated menu bar, redesigned sheets, and a refreshed Notification Center — changes that will helps to unify Apple’s desktop macOS operating system with its mobile iOS and iPad OS platforms. In fact, Apple views the changes introduced with Big Sur significant enough to warrant a numerical jump to its macOS platform, moving from macOS 10 for desktops — which was initially introduced in 2001 — to macOS 11.

Big Sur is also the first operating system that kicks off Apple’s support for its own custom in-house silicon as Apple moves away from Intel. As Apple transitions to ARM-based processors for its Mac, we can likely expect to see Apple port over more features from its mobile platforms.

If you want to give Big Sur a spin ahead of its commercial release, you can begin by enrolling your Mac in Apple’s software preview program . However, before you do that, be sure to read Apple’s documentation for the latest beta release to see what problems or issues you may encounter during testing. Although Apple announced that Big Sur will be coming to supported Macs this fall, the company did not give a specific launch date.

Character.AI, the hugely popular digital avatar startup, announced Thursday that users will now be able to hold real-time conversations with one of the company's multitude of AI agents by placing a free, fictionalized Character Call on the app.

The company has been building intelligent chatbots designed to engage users in interactive conversations since the company's founding in 2021. Initially, users could only interact with these characters as one would any other chatbot like Gemini or Claude, doing so via text.
