Understanding the Tour Championship starting positions and scoring system

The PGA Tour’s season-long race for the FedEx Cup comes to an end this week at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, a tournament where the scoring gets a little twist to keep things interesting. Here’s what you need to know.

Who is Collin Morikawa? PGA Tour member sits in second in 2024 Masters heading into final day

Collin Morikawa has positioned himself nicely heading into the final day of the 2024 Masters , as he aims for his first-ever green jacket.

Morikawa, 27, currently sits in second place with a score of 6-under par heading into the final day at Augusta National, just one stroke behind leader Scottie Scheffler.

Morikawa had one of the best performances on the course on Saturday, shooting a 3-under 69 to move his total score to 210 on the tournament.

This year marks Morikawa's fifth appearance at the Masters, as he looks to win golf's top tournament.

Who is Collin Morikawa?

Collin Morikawa is a 27-year-old professional golfer currently playing on the PGA Tour after turning professional in 2019.

Morikawa is currently the 20th-ranked golfer in the world, according to the Official World Golf Ranking.

Morikawa played college golf at Cal, even raising to the No. 1 ranking in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for three weeks in May 2018.

The Los Angeles native has six career wins on the PGA Tour, which includes the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open. He began his PGA Tour career with 22 consecutive tournaments without missing the cut, which stands only second to Tiger Woods' streak of 25.

Has Collin Morikawa won the Masters?

Collin Morikawa has never won the Masters, however, he has two consecutive top-10 finishes.

Morikawa finished fifth in 2022 and tied-for-10th in 2023, before placing himself at second heading into the final day of the 2024 Masters.

Collin Morikawa has two majors wins in his career, winning the 2020 PGA Championship in San Francisco, and the 2021 British Open.

Morikawa was briefly ranked the world's No. 2-ranked golfer in October 2021 after winning two majors.

Morikawa also has a tied-for-fourth finish at the 2021 U.S. Open and a fifth-place finish at the 2022 Masters.

Kiawah Island's Ocean Course to host PGA Championship in '31

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The PGA Championship is returning in 2031 to the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, where the previous two champions set tournament records.

Phil Mickelson became the oldest major champion at age 50 in 2021 when he won the PGA Championship at Kiawah for his sixth major. Rory McIlroy set a PGA Championship record with an eight-shot victory when he claimed his second major at the Ocean Course in 2012.

Only eight other courses have hosted the PGA Championships three times or more.

Kiawah Island first came onto the golf landscape when the United States narrowly defeated Europe in the 1991 Ryder Cup.

Michigan basketball recruiting: Four-star Justin Pippen, son of Scottie Pippen, first to commit to Dusty May

The four-star prospect is the son of nba legend scottie pippen.

Four-star combo guard Justin Pippen , the son of NBA Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame player Scottie Pippen, announced his commitment to Michigan on Friday during a ceremony broadcast on the 247Sports YouTube channel. He chose the Wolverines over fellow finalists Florida , Stanford , Cal, and Texas A&M .

A product of Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California, Pippen ranks as the No. 62 overall player and the No. 9 combo guard in the 2025 cycle. Pippen is the first high school or transfer portal commit for new Michigan coach Dusty May, who left his post at FAU to succeed former coach Juwan Howard.

Pippen also marks the highest-ranked high school recruit in the 247Sports database that May has landed in his coaching career. May recruit three-star guard Elijah Elliott to FAU from the 2024 recruiting cycle before leaving for Michigan.

Pippen has been a late riser in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He debuted in the 247Sports rankings last fall as the No. 191 overall player in his class and has rocketed up the rankings since. Justin's older brother, Scotty, played three seasons at Vanderbilt from 2019-22 before heading to the NBA.

"He's grown nearly two inches in the last eight months while also continuing to improve and expand his skillset both as a scorer and playmaker," 247Sports National Basketball Analyst Travis Branham wrote. "Pippen is a naturally talented guard with instincts for the game. He is very comfortable with the ball in his hands to score from all three levels and also set the tables for those around him. As he continues to grow and fill out his frame, Pippen can become a highly impactful high major guard, much like his brother did at Vanderbilt before him."
